<em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-6">Resident Evil 6</a></em>, Capcom's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/01/resident-evil-6-review/#review">flagship of horrors</a> for the fiscal year concluding March 31, 2013, certainly has "plateaued," as Capcom put it in today's <a href="http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/news/html/e130508b.html">results</a>. The game, which launched in October of 2012, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/04/resident-evil-6-ships-over-4-5-million-copies-worldwide/">shipped over 4.5 million units at the time</a>. The company announced today the game sold 4.9 million units. Comparatively, <em>Resident Evil 5</em> has sold <a href="http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/business/million.html">6.1 million units</a>.<br />
<br />
"As a result, [Resident Evil 6] did not meet with our projection," the company's statement reads. "In contrast, <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dragons-dogma">Dragon's Dogma</a></em> became a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/30/capcoms-quarterly-earnings-strong-on-dragons-dogma-social-gam/">greater-than-expected hit product in the domestic market</a>, which has high profitability, and became an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/25/capcom-ships-over-a-million-copies-of-dragons-dogma/">unprecedented million seller</a> in the recent years as an original title."<br />
<br />
Overall, Capcom sales were up 14.6 percent for the year to &yen;94.07 million ($950M), with net income down to &yen;2.97 million ($30M), which is a decrease of 56 percent from last year. Capcom expects this year to be similar in revenues, but hopes to bring that profit back to the 2012 level. This year's line-up includes <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/remember-me/">Remember Me</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/lost-planet-3">Lost Planet 3</a></em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/08/capcom-year-end-results-sales-up-profit-down-resident-evil-6/">Capcom year-end results: sales up, profit down, Resident Evil 6 failed to meet projections at 4.9M</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 May 2013 10:45:00 EST. Some games are available piecemeal, but the remainder must be acquired in special bundles - like <em>Resident Evil</em>, <em>Resident Evil 2</em> and <em>Resident Evil 3</em>, combined here for &euro;14.99 (&pound;11.99).<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-4"><em>Resident Evil 4</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Resident-Evil-Code-Veronica-X"><em>Resident Evil: Code Veronica X</em></a> are also bundled together for &euro;19.99 (&pound;15.99), while several other games have been knocked down to &euro;14.99 (&pound;10.99) each: <em>Operation Raccoon City, </em>the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5-gold-edition/">gold edition</a> of <em>Resident Evil 5</em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/26/relive-the-undead-onslaught-today-in-resident-evil-chronicles-hd/"><em>Resident Evil: Chronicles HD Collection</em></a> - the HD Move-compatible port of both <em>Chronicles</em> games originally released on the Wii. Sorry, UK, <em>Chronicles HD</em> will cost you an extra quid, at &pound;10.99.<br /><br />The latest entry in the series, <em>Resident Evil 6</em>, is &euro;24.99 (&pound;19.99). Finally, a bundle that includes all of this is available for &euro;69.99 (&pound;59.99). No word on whether PlayStation Plus members will see additional discounts on these items, though we've contacted Sony for clarification.<br /><br /><span>Remember: the sale doesn't start until tomorrow, after the PlayStation Store update. Anderson will begin shooting this fall for a September 12, 2014 debut date. The movie doesn't currently have a fancy subtitle.<br /><br />Since the movies aren't actually numbered and should be enjoyed simply for what they are, the order goes: <em>Resident Evil, Apocalypse, Extinction, Afterlife</em> and <em>Retribution</em>.<br /><br /><em>Resident Evil: Retribution</em> reportedly cost $65 million to make and grossed $221 million worldwide. Yes, Michelle Rodriguez was back in it. Yes, it was somehow explained. No, we can't recall the reason. Clearly we aren't on the same page on how these movies should be enjoyed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/05/resident-evil-6-the-movie-set-for-late-2014/">Resident Evil 6 (the movie) set for late 2014</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Mar 2013 11:00:00 EST. 'Predator' tasks one player with being the Ustanak, a giant bioweapon, while other players band together to take it down. 'Survivor' can be played in solo or with a team, with downed players resurrected as zombies to hunt human prey. Finally, 'Onslaught' pits two players against each other as they battle waves of enemies, each kill chain sending that many more enemies to the other player's area. Each mode is priced at $3.99 on PSN.<br /><br />On top of the DLC modes, Capcom has also dated a collection of all released Mercenaries maps, including maps that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/01/resident-evil-6-pre-order-mercenaries-maps-dlc-now-just-regular/">were previously exclusive to pre-order</a> customers. This one-stop Mercenaries map pack bundles together Rail Yard, Catacombs, High Seas Fortress, all available now for 80 MSP ($1) each, plus Stage Map Pack A (160 MSP/$2) and Map Pack B (160 MSP/$2). This collection will be available on Xbox Live worldwide and PSN in North America on March 5; European PS3 owners can snag the pack on March 6.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/19/resident-evil-6-multiplayer-dlc-now-on-ps3-mercenaries-map-bund/">Resident Evil 6 multiplayer DLC now on PS3, Mercenaries map bundle in March</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Feb 2013 23:15:00 EST. Capcom attributed the success to launches of major games, the growing popularity of its social games in Japan, and its newly introduced <em>Resident Evil 5</em> slot machine. Sales were up 44 percent during the same period from last year.<br /><br />While both <em>Resident Evil 6</em> and <em>DmC: Devil May Cry</em> saw <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/04/dmc-devil-may-cry-shipped-1-million-in-january-forecasts-slash/">significant reductions</a> to their end-of-fiscal-year projections, Capcom is pleased by the performances of <em>Dragon's Dogma</em>, which exceeded expectations to become a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/25/capcom-ships-over-a-million-copies-of-dragons-dogma/">million-seller last year</a>, and <em>Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate</em>, which racked up over <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/27/the-top-30-games-of-2012-in-japan/">600,000 sales</a> during its first month in Japan.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/04/capcom-sales-income-up-in-2012/">Capcom sales, income up in 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Feb 2013 08:45:00 EST. The company adjusted its sales forecasts for the game to 1.2 million by March 31, down from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/11/capcom-projections-resident-evil-6-sells-7-million-dmc-does-2/">2 million projected</a> back in May 2012.<br /><br />The figures don't take into account the PC version, released on January 25. Nonetheless, they strongly indicate Ninja Theory's reboot is flagging way behind the last entry in the series, <em>Devil May Cry 4</em>, which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/devil-may-cry-4-sheds-2-million-tears/">shipped 2 million units</a> in its first two weeks at retail.<br /><br />Capcom also updated sales figures for <em>Resident Evil 6 </em>to 4.8 million; the series' latest outbreak had shipped <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/04/resident-evil-6-ships-over-4-5-million-copies-worldwide/">4.5 million</a> by the end of September. and was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/11/capcom-projections-resident-evil-6-sells-7-million-dmc-does-2/">initially projected</a> to reach 7 million sales by March 31. <em>Dragon's Dogma</em> is up to 1.25 million, while <em>Resident Evil: Raccoon City</em> is at a meagre 650,000, including PC sales. Maybe that's why <em>Revelations</em> producer Masachika Kawata feels there've been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/03/a-few-too-many-resident-evil-games-in-past-two-years-producer/">too many RE games of late</a>.<br /><br />Capcom didn't release figures for <em>Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate</em>, released on Wii U in Japan on December 8, 2012, but said the game "became a smash hit." In case you suspect that's just deflective hot air, the action-RPG sold <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/27/the-top-30-games-of-2012-in-japan/">over 600,000 copies by the end of 2012</a>, with the Western launch <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/17/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-lands-march-19-with-usb-keyboard-suppo/">still to come in March</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/04/dmc-devil-may-cry-shipped-1-million-in-january-forecasts-slash/">DmC: Devil May Cry shipped 1 million in January, forecasts slashed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Feb 2013 07:15:00 EST. Capcom shipped 3.7 million copies of <em>Resident Evil 6 </em>worldwide in the first half of fiscal 2013, nicely padding its overall revenue for the period, though it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/01/resident-evil-6-review/#review">wasn't even close</a> to hitting our personal "best of 2012" list.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/29/resident-evil-6-getting-japanese-voiceover-as-dlc/">Resident Evil 6 getting Japanese voiceover as DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Jan 2013 21:00:00 EST. The Mercenaries: No Mercy (unofficial name: "The Naries") is based on the existing Mercenaries mode, but with "more enemies on screen than ever before." Ada Wong's campaign will be available when you start the game, playable in co-op, and you will be able to "fine tune the in-game camera," features that were added to the console versions in updates.<br /><br />Sometime next month, in advance of the March 22 launch of RE6 for PC, Capcom will release a free benchmark test. We'll warn you: regardless of how well your computer handles it, it's still going to be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/01/resident-evil-6-review/#review"><em>Resident Evil 6</em></a>.<br /><br />In addition to the PC news, Capcom also revealed a March release window for Siege Mode on PS3 and Xbox 360, a $4 add-on for two to six people to play online. One team attempts to kill a rookie (AI-controlled) BSAA agent as monsters, while another team controls the living human characters from RE6 as they try to protect him.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-pc/">Resident Evil 6 (PC)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-pc/#5595852"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/re6pc000bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-pc/#5595853"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/re6pc001bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-pc/#5595854"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/re6pc002bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-pc/#5595855"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/re6pc003bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-pc/#5595856"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/re6pc004bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/25/resident-evil-6-pc-ships-with-new-mercs-mode-siege-mode-dlc-for/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Resident Evil 6 PC ships with new Mercs mode; Siege mode DLC for consoles in March</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/25/resident-evil-6-pc-ships-with-new-mercs-mode-siege-mode-dlc-for/">Resident Evil 6 PC ships with new Mercs mode; Siege mode DLC for consoles in March</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Jan 2013 13:00:00 EST. If players across the world kill a collective 15 million zombies, they're eligible to unlock one costume from the set seen above. No word on which costume will be the first award, but future online events will be announced on <a href="http://www.residentevil.net/">the Resident Evil site</a>, so perhaps a bookmark is in order.<br /><br />Capcom has also added <em>Resident Evil 6</em> to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/games-on-demand">Games on Demand</a> section of Xbox Live Marketplace. The Xbox 360 download weighs in at 7.57GB and will set you back $39.99, the current price of <em>Resident Evil 6</em> at retail.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/21/resident-evil-6-packs-retro-costumes-for-upcoming-online-events/">Resident Evil 6 packs retro costumes for upcoming online events</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Dec 2012 22:00:00 EST. The three modes are Predator, Survivors and Onslaught, all of which are things we thought people already encountered in Resident Evil games in general, so we're not sure how "exclusive" they really are.<br /><br />Predator has up to six players as humans and Ustanak, in a rotation of quick-fire rounds. Survivors is for two to six players, solo and team deathmatch style: get taken down and respawn as an enemy character, where you have to take out a human character in order to reclaim your own human status. Onslaught has two players take our waves of enemies, though completing combos will push enemies into the other player's horde. Because that's what friends are for.<br /><br />All three modes are available today, only on Xbox 360. There is no word on a launch for additional platforms.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/18/psa-resident-evil-6-multiplayer-modes-launch-on-xbox-360-today/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PSA: Resident Evil 6 multiplayer modes launch on Xbox 360 today</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/18/psa-resident-evil-6-multiplayer-modes-launch-on-xbox-360-today/">PSA: Resident Evil 6 multiplayer modes launch on Xbox 360 today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Dec 2012 14:15:00 EST. Survivor mode augments regular solo/team vs. mode by making felled humans rise as zombies, who must chomp on some noggins before being able to respawn as a person.<br /><br />Lastly, Onslaught sounds like a weird combination of <em>Gear of War</em>'s Horde mode and <em>Dr. Mario</em>'s multiplayer, where two players attempt to survive separate waves of enemies, with kill combos sending more zombies to the opponent's side.<br /><br />Each mode will set you back 320 MS Points ($4) if purchased individually, or 720 MS Points ($9) if purchased as a bundle. No word on when this content will become available on other platforms.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Capcom has uploaded some footage from each new mode - feel free to vault past the break to check it out. In an <a href="http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/data/explanation.html#qa_12_2q">investor Q&amp;A</a>, the publisher announced plans to hire this extra staff over the course of ten years, adding to the 1,500 game developers on staff as of the end of September.<br /><br />"We want to further improve the quality of our games by maintaining an internal game development team," a Capcom representative (likely CEO Kenzo Tsujimoto, but it is not specified) said. Answering a follow-up question about budget, he elaborated. "The purpose of increasing our game developer team is to create a larger percentage of our games internally. Therefore, we believe that there will be no significant change in total development expenditures mainly because we will be shifting outsourced operations to our own workforce."<br /><br />Speaking of internally developed Capcom games, the Capcom rep said that <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-6"><em>Resident Evil 6</em></a> has been "successful to some degree" despite its cool critical reception. Because of its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/31/resident-evil-6-dragons-dogma-propel-capcom-to-record-first-ha/">high shipment rate</a> and "repeat sales in Japan and overseas," Capcom believes "it is too early to reach a conclusion about how users view this game."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/06/capcom-hiring-1-000-more-developers-over-ten-years/">Capcom hiring 1,000 more developers over ten years</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Nov 2012 12:00:00 EST. Overall, Capcom claimed that "sales and income for this 6 months period broke the record at all levels for the first half."<br /><br />The success is attributed to two games which have done better in sales than in reviews, one being <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-6"><em>Resident Evil 6</em></a>, of which Capcom had already shipped 3.7 million units to retailers by the end of the half, in advance of its October release date. Yes, one of the best-selling games of the period, from Capcom's perspective, had not yet been released during the period. That's why we're always clear to identify "shipped" versus "sold," if you're playing along at home.<br /><br />The other big seller is <em>Dragon's Dogma</em>, which became a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/25/capcom-ships-over-a-million-copies-of-dragons-dogma/">million seller</a> in Capcom's "more profitable domestic market" of Japan despite less success outside of Japan.<br /><br />Capcom's social games, including a Monster Hunter card game, <em>Resident Evil Outbreak Survive</em>, and the Beeline games <em>The Smurfs' Village</em> and <em>Snoopy's Street Fair</em> also contributed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/31/resident-evil-6-dragons-dogma-propel-capcom-to-record-first-ha/">Resident Evil 6, Dragon's Dogma propel Capcom to record first half of fiscal 2013</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 31 Oct 2012 11:00:00 EST. The update includes the foreboding 'No Hope' difficulty level along with co-op for Ada Wong's campaign, which following the update will be unlocked from the start of the game.<br /><br />Capcom is also taking the opportunity to chuck in a couple of mechanical tweaks. Following the update, players can widen the camera's field of view - always a handy option with hordes of zombies. The final six or so images in the gallery below show maximum and minimum ranges, although Capcom says the feature is still a work in progress. Also, the update allows English language audio to be combinable with subtitles in alternative languages - which is less handy for combating zombies but still generally useful.<br /><br />Regards the PC version, Capcom hasn't announced details regarding its release yet, and a spokesperson couldn't confirm to us if the free update will be available or included at launch.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-december-2012-update/">Resident Evil 6 (December 2012 Update)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-december-2012-update/#5384830"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/10/re6-decupdate-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-december-2012-update/#5384831"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/10/re6-decupdate-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-december-2012-update/#5384832"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/10/re6-decupdate-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-december-2012-update/#5384833"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/10/re6-decupdate-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-december-2012-update/#5384834"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/10/re6-decupdate-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/24/resident-evil-6s-free-update-crawls-onto-xbox-ps3-mid-december/">Resident Evil 6's free update crawls onto Xbox, PS3 mid-December</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Oct 2012 12:00:00 EST. But it's hard to get too angry about the controversy of on-disc DLC when both of those items will be free anyway. Those two freebies will be unlocked (and downloaded to completion) in a free title update soon, <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/brelston/blog/2012/10/10/free-re6-dlc-inbound-plus-some-clarification">Capcom announced</a>.<br /><br />There will be paid DLC, including <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/11/resident-evil-6s-xbox-timed-exclusive-dlc-modes-detailed/">timed-exclusive content for Xbox</a>, but that material is not already on the disc. The game saw a 72 percent decline in sales in its second week, but from a historical perspective, <em>FIFA 13</em> is going to have a long tail and be in the top of the charts for quite a while.<br /><br />Taking the second spot were launch-week sales of <em>Resident Evil 6</em>. Despite <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/01/metareview-resident-evil-6/">crushing reviews</a>, the action horror adventure was the fourth largest game premiere in the UK for 2012. <em>Borderlands 2</em> slips one spot to third, just above the insidious debut of <em>Just Dance 4</em>.<br /><br />Insidious? Yuuuup! Again, if <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/13/just-dance-3-shimmies-into-7-million-households-25-million-fran/">history serves as any basis</a> for the future of <em>Just Dance 4</em>, it'll just hang out this holiday season, being charming as ever. It won't go away or may find some way to sneak into the top spot once things slow down early next year. Hit the dance floor after the break for the UK top ten.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/08/fifa-13-still-on-top-in-uk-resident-evil-6-just-dance-4-debut/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FIFA 13 still on top in UK; Resident Evil 6, Just Dance 4 debut strong</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/08/fifa-13-still-on-top-in-uk-resident-evil-6-just-dance-4-debut/">FIFA 13 still on top in UK; Resident Evil 6, Just Dance 4 debut strong</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Oct 2012 11:00:00 EST. This time, the series brings you fresh terror in the form of C-Virus zombies, still bent on your demise. They are extremely persistent, and with any luck they'll eventually overrun the planet and kill humankind.<br /> <br /> While the undead shamble through plenty of video games, we wonder where the rest of the monster squad is hiding out?<br /> <br /> Since <em>Resident Evil</em> has the zombie angle covered, we're recommend the seriously impressive <em>Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection Blu-ray</em> set for this week's flick. Yes, it's a huge set, containing eight classic Universal monster movies, but this is definitely a must-have set for any cinephile or horror fan. There's enough material here to keep you entertained through the month of October.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-gamescom-2012/">Resident Evil 6 (Gamescom 2012)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-gamescom-2012/#5208122"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/re6gamescomjake0000bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-gamescom-2012/#5208123"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/re6gamescomjake0001bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-gamescom-2012/#5208124"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/re6gamescomjake0002bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-gamescom-2012/#5208125"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/re6gamescomjake0003bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-gamescom-2012/#5208126"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/re6gamescomjake0004bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/07/stiq-flicks-resident-evil-6-and-universal-classic-monsters-the/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Stiq Flicks: Resident Evil 6 and Universal Classic Monsters - The Essential Collection</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/07/stiq-flicks-resident-evil-6-and-universal-classic-monsters-the/">Stiq Flicks: Resident Evil 6 and Universal Classic Monsters - The Essential Collection</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 07 Oct 2012 20:30:00 EST. It debuts on Fridays in Engadget's digital magazine, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/05/distro-issue-60-infinitec/">Distro</a>.</small></font><br /><hr /><div style="text-align: center; "> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/05/making-a-monster-out-of-resident-evil/"><img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/re6e3jakesherryustanak01bmpjpgcopy_530x330.jpg" /></a></div>The internet-borne response to this week's arrival of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-6"><em>Resident Evil 6</em></a> has been illuminating. A surprising number of critics are ready to cast the game into a bonfire, and some incredulous fans wish the reviewers would join it. There's a perceptible feeling of disbelief amongst everyone involved, as if such a big, glossy production - with hundreds of developers behind it - could never lead to divided, divisive opinions.<br /><br />It's happened before, of course, with <em>Assassin's Creed</em> in 2007. But that game landed on different expectations, its future as a franchise uncertain. The historical action game won fans and detractors in almost equal numbers at first, and went on to become one of Ubisoft's most powerful and most nurtured franchises. Players expect <em>Assassin's Creed 3</em> to maintain the upward curve of quality, and the game's familiar mechanics and motifs make a massive critical failure almost unthinkable.<br /><br />Therein lies the deceptive assumption of "AAA" games. With enough history, fan feedback, financial support and developers, we expect a well-tuned machine to emerge every time. There's a balance in the dialogue between players and creators, however, and <em>Resident Evil 6</em> is a good (or bad, depending on your viewpoint) example of what happens when one drowns out the other. I couldn't even tell you if fans demanded too much, or if Capcom was too intent on placating them, to the point of ignoring its own design expertise.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/05/making-a-monster-out-of-resident-evil/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Making a Monster out of Resident Evil</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/05/making-a-monster-out-of-resident-evil/">Making a Monster out of Resident Evil</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 05 Oct 2012 19:30:00 EST. A day-one patch of the digitally distributed copy stops the game from loading, but there is a temporary workaround.<br /><br />"The temporary fix to ensure people can enjoy RE6 today as intended is to ask those people to un-install the game (only if they originally saw an error message) and re-install the game," publisher Capcom informed <a href="http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/10/02/ps3-gamers-having-issues-with-resident-evil-6">IGN</a>. "This time they won't be prompted to download the patch and the game will load."<br /><br />Capcom also mentions there is a slight side effect to the fix: "Please note however, these people won't be able to play against disc owners on a temporary basis. We are working with SCEE (Sony) to fix this issue and a patch is imminent to fix the issue. Please note that those people who downloaded the game from the PSN store originally won't be able to access RE.net at this time, but this will be fixed by the imminent patch."<br /><br />This issue only potentially affects those who purchased the game through PSN. Disc-based copies of <em>Resident Evil 6</em> already have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/01/metareview-resident-evil-6/">99 problems</a>, but this bug ain't one of them.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/03/resident-evil-6-day-1-digital-PSN-bug/">Resident Evil 6's Day 1 Digital version on PSN bugged, Capcom working on fix</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Oct 2012 09:30:00 EST. Now, if we were to say <em>Resident Evil 6</em> is a virus, we'd have an apt analogy going on right now. Review scores are all over the place for Capcom's latest installment in the former survival-horror franchise. For our part, we called the series' latest mutation a "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/01/resident-evil-6-review/">fully-featured, sloppy, frequently frustrating attempt to do well by everyone</a>."<br /><ul> <li> <a href="http://www.gameinformer.com/games/resident_evil_6/b/xbox360/archive/2012/10/01/incredible-co-op-with-a-few-kinks.aspx">Game Informer</a> <strong>(88/100</strong>): "That metamorphosis into insane action is front and center in Resident Evil 6, and bringing a buddy along for the chaos is great fun. The game's minor flaws don't hold back the decadent experience from being an unhinged, flaming rollercoaster ride."</li> <li> <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-10-01-resident-evil-6-review">Eurogamer</a> <strong>(60/100</strong>): "This game is blind to imagination and focus. Capcom's uncertainty about the series' identity post-Mikami (and post-Uncharted) is hardcoded into its structure: four campaigns offering different, flawed expressions of that potential. And the inevitable price for this wavering is a lack of coherence."</li> <li> <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/review/resident-evil-6-review/">Edge</a> <strong>(60/100)</strong>: "In always trying to offer something more, Resident Evil 6 fails to refine what it has already given you. And whatever else you might say about the game, it achieves something that its predecessor never did: it steps out of Resident Evil 4's shadow and becomes its own game. Sadly, it's a game that redefines the series as a loose collection of action scenarios with a shared theme of mild sci-fi horror."</li> <li> <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/resident-evil-6/reviews/resident-evil-6-review-6397185/">Gamespot</a> <strong>(45/100</strong>): "The Bad: Loads of bad, overlong quick-time events -Excruciating overemphasis on mediocre set piece events -Ruins the pace by constantly ripping control from you - Poorly executed scripted events lead to unavoidable deaths."</li> <li> <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/review-resident-evil-6-235326.phtml">Destructoid</a> <strong>(30/100</strong>): "It's not enough to say that <em>Resident Evil 6</em> is poor as a <em>Resident Evil</em> game. That alone implies there could be a quality experience if fans can get past their preconceptions and feelings of betrayal. No, <em>Resident Evil 6</em> is poor by the standards of <em>any</em> game, not just the high ones set by its own legacy."</li></ul><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/01/metareview-resident-evil-6/">Metareview: Resident Evil 6</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Oct 2012 16:30:00 EST. There's educational worth in this exercise, but the gross sight of it in progress can be hard to stomach.<br /><br />The three primary campaigns in <em>Resident Evil 6</em> are the excised parts, and only by sampling them all will you begin to see the full picture. Stoic series stalwart Leon S. Kennedy (the "S" stands for "Salon," by the way) leads with Helena Harper, who clues him in on a new contagion giving rise to the dead worldwide. The two really are the worst match if you're looking for rapid plot development - she's basically a viral marketer, and he's bizarrely skeptical for a guy who is statistically likely to be in the room whenever someone sprouts tentacles and extra teeth.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-e3-2012/">Resident Evil 6 (E3 2012)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-e3-2012/#5065578"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/re6e3adawong01bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-e3-2012/#5065579"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/re6e3chrispiers01bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-e3-2012/#5065581"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/re6e3chrispiers02bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-e3-2012/#5065582"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/re6e3crossoverjakesherrypiers01bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-6-e3-2012/#5065583"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/re6e3crossoverleonhelenajakesherry01bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/01/resident-evil-6-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Resident Evil 6 review: Splitting pairs</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/01/resident-evil-6-review/">Resident Evil 6 review: Splitting pairs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Oct 2012 11:16:00 EST. Of course, this isn't real human meat - it's animal meat dressed up and labeled as human meat.<br /><br />All proceeds from the sale of these items made to look like human limbs will go to the Limbless Association, a non-profit that aids those who have lost their limbs in dealing with the trauma and finding careers. There will also be drinks available, examples of which include the served-in-a-specimen-bag "Stool Sample" and "Puss." Yup, <em>puss</em>. Capcom will also hold <a href="http://residentevilcannibal.eventbrite.co.uk/">a pair</a> <a href="http://residentevilvirus.eventbrite.co.uk/">of lectures</a> on the themes present in Resident Evil 6 and their ties to the real world at St. Bartholomew's Hospital Pathology Museum in case drinking puss isn't your cup of puss.<br /><br />Capcom employed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/12/capcom-publicity-stunt-loses-realistic-fake-limbs-in-london/">a similar PR stunt for <em>Resident Evil 5</em></a> that ended up going over ... less than well. At least this time the faux body parts will be isolated to the inside of one building and not strewn about in public, though that doesn't make us any more enthused to see someone gnawing on what looks like a human hand.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/27/capcom-feeding-the-uk-to-itself-to-promote-resident-evil-6/">Capcom feeding the UK to itself to promote Resident Evil 6</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Sep 2012 19:15:00 EST. Both <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-5"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a> and the non-canon spinoff <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city"><em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em></a> are available for half price, making the first one $9.99, and the second $24.99 for the base game, or $38.94 with all of the DLC included.<br /><br />At those prices, there's never been a better time to sign the rent agreement and let the Evil move on in. Just be careful with letting Evil be your roommate: It always leaves empty milk cartons in the fridge, and never washes the dishes, no matter what the chore list says.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/25/resident-evil-5-and-raccoon-city-half-off-on-steam-for-midweek-m/">Resident Evil 5 and Raccoon City half off on Steam for Midweek Madness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Sep 2012 23:00:00 EST. Finally, someone in Hollywood has the vision to make a Resident Evil movie that actually resembles the video games, and it looks to be an action-packed gore fest to rival Liam Neeson's latest - wait, what? This is a trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-6"><em>Resident Evil 6</em></a>, the video game, and not a high-budget action-drama flick? Huh.<br /><br />Well, if you can't have a movie like the game, might as well make the game more like a movie. The above trailer comes directly from the Tokyo Game Show, where it was shown exclusively at Capcom's booth. That must have been <em>intense</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/25/resident-evil-6-tgs-trailer-shows-drama-in-action/">Resident Evil 6 TGS trailer shows drama in action</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Sep 2012 17:30:00 EST. The announcement came shortly after a UK Xbox Marketplace <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-GB/Product/RESIDENT-EVIL-6/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80243430819">listing</a> disclosed three modes as the 360's timed-exclusive content first announced at this year's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/04/resident-evil-6-dlc-to-hit-xbox-360-first/">E3</a>.<br /><br />Survivors Mode is a last-man-standing versus mode, but with killed players respawning as "enemy characters" (presumably zombies), able to resurrect fully after killing two humans. Predator Mode sees human players try to survive against a sole <a href="http://residentevil.wikia.com/Ustanak">Ustanak</a>, while Siege Mode sees each team trying to protect (and eliminate) a non-player character. Let's just hope that NPC is more <a href="http://residentevil.wikia.com/Sheva_Alomar">Sheva</a> than <a href="http://residentevil.wikia.com/Ashley_Graham">Ashley</a>.<br /><br />The three modes become available shortly after <em>Resident Evil 6</em> comes out on October 2. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/04/resident-evil-6-demo-spreads-september-18-to-psn-xblm/">demo</a> arrives on PSN and for gold members on Xbox Live next Tuesday.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/11/resident-evil-6s-xbox-timed-exclusive-dlc-modes-detailed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Resident Evil 6's Xbox timed-exclusive DLC modes detailed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/11/resident-evil-6s-xbox-timed-exclusive-dlc-modes-detailed/">Resident Evil 6's Xbox timed-exclusive DLC modes detailed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Sep 2012 11:45:00 EST. Players are much more mobile now, and can use traps (when available in the level) to dispatch large groups of enemies quickly.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/04/resident-evil-6s-mercenaries-mode-stacks-the-bodies/">Resident Evil 6's Mercenaries mode stacks the bodies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Sep 2012 23:30:00 EST.
