Capcom is upping the boils and rotting flesh textures, bringing the on-rails light gun <em>Resident Evil </em>games to PS3 in HD. <em>Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles</em> and <em>Darkside Chronicles</em>, released on Wii over the past couple years, will be bundled as <em>Resident Evil Chronicles HD</em>, ready to blast away on PS3 with Move support. <a href="http://andriasang.com/comytj/">Andriasang</a> reports the announcement was made earlier today at Capcom's Resident Evil 15th anniversary event in Japan. No pricing, release date nor international distribution details were announced.<br />
<br />
We wouldn't be too concerned about an international release, as an HD version of <em>Chronicles</em> is a low-risk second chance for Capcom to make some money from <em>Darkside Chronicles</em>, which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/07/capcom-calls-earnings-sluggish-over-last-fiscal-year/">failed to meet expectations</a>, and <em>Umbrella Chronicles,</em> a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/06/umbrella-chronicles-lurches-toward-a-million-sales/">million seller</a>. Also, HD upgrades to on-rails shooters that launched on Wii are totally vogue -- just look at <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-house-of-the-dead-overkill-extended-cut/">House of the Dead: Overkill</a> </em>or<em> Dead Space Extraction. </em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/31/resident-evil-chronicles-go-hd-for-ps3-move/">Resident Evil Chronicles going HD for PS3, Move</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 31 Oct 2011 09:25:00 EST. It's your basic third-party Wii gun shell, but in a nice silver/black theme with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/umbrella-chronicles"><em>Umbrella Chronicles</em></a> branding, and includes <em>Resident Evil</em>-style Wiimote and Nunchuk skins. <br /><br />The gun is available once again in <a href="http://shop.capcom.com/store/capcomus/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.120252600">Capcom's online store</a>, for $29.95. It might be worth picking up if you're <em>way into Umbrella Chronicles</em> or if you <em>plan</em> to be way into <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/13/watch-the-resident-evil-the-darkside-chronicles-announcement-tr/"><em>Darkside Chronicles</em></a> -- or, of course, if you're compelled to buy rare Capcom junk. According to the latest issue of Japanese mag <em>Famitsu</em>, the Wii's <em>Resident Evil</em> fans indeed have something to be "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/06/wiis-resident-evil-fans-will-be-very-happy-very-soon-says-ca/">very happy</a>" about. Well, at least if they're keen on another round of super-speed <em>Resident Evil</em> nostalgia, likely presented in the form of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles">another first-person point-and-shooter</a>. Though Capcom USA has yet to officially announce the game nor any specific details, <em>Biohazard: The Darkside Chronicles</em> looks to feature <em>Resident Evil 2</em>'s protagonist pair, Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Oh, and zombies. Lots of 'em.<br /><br />We'll update with more information as soon as we can.<br /><br />[Thanks, Kevin]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/11/rumor-resident-evil-darkside-chronicles-coming-to-wii/">Rumor: Resident Evil 'Darkside Chronicles' coming to Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Mar 2009 07:25:00 EST. Capcom's on-rail shooter, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/21/wii-fanboy-review-resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles/"><em>Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</em></a>, is getting close to becoming a million-seller. It's been revealed that the title has sold 950,000 copies, with the million mark well within its reach. Actually, it could have already broken a million sales, as this data is current as of the end of December.<br /><br />The game did a lot better than Capcom initially thought, especially in the U.S. and Europe where it sold the strongest, as the company reveals the title did 50% better than their in-house estimations. Personally, we don't know why they would think a game about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/21/big-heads-make-easy-targets-in-house-of-the-dead-2-and-3-return/">shooting the crap out of the living dead</a> and genetically-altered beasties alike wouldn't sell a million. Plus, with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/17/resident-evil-degeneration-looks-like-a-good-resident-evil-movi/"><em>Resident Evil</em></a> name attached to it, how could it not sell incredibly well?<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/06/umbrella-chronicles-lurches-toward-a-million-sales/">Umbrella Chronicles lurches toward a million sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Feb 2008 12:45:00 EST. The anger just isn't there this week as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Zero Punctuation</a>'s Yahtzee experiences the difficulty curve of the Wii's zombie-blasting rail shooter, <span style="font-style: italic;">Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</span>. Yahtzee still "brings it" to our expectations, but what is there left to "be brought" when mocking the <em>Resident Evil</em> series? <br /><br />Yahtzee takes digs at the <em>RE</em> story, dialogue, and tops it with some decent potshots at the characters -- but really, who hasn't done that at this point in gaming history? In the end, he respects <span style="font-style: italic;">Umbrella Chronicles</span> for doing something different. Hopefully <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2883-Zero-Punctuation-Resident-Evil-Umbrella-Chronicles">The Escapist</a> can afford to get the guy a game to actually be angry about next week.<br /><br />After the break is where you'll find this week's NSFW clip.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/30/zero-punctuation-goes-through-the-motions-with-re-umbrella-chron/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Punctuation goes through the motions with Umbrella Chronicles</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/30/zero-punctuation-goes-through-the-motions-with-re-umbrella-chron/">Zero Punctuation goes through the motions with Umbrella Chronicles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Jan 2008 18:00:00 EST. I've got every <em>Resident Evil </em>game, countless posters, shirts and figurines from the various games. The original was one of the most important games in my development as a gamer. It helped make me the gamer I am today.<br /><br />And when the franchise hit the GameCube, it was the icing on the cake. The <em>Resident Evil </em>remake that appeared on the system was amazing, along with <em>Resident Evil 0 </em>and the game that even franchise haters couldn't ignore, <em>Resident Evil 4</em>. As the first original game in the series on a Nintendo console since <em>RE 4</em>, this was an important game in my eyes.<br /><br />One has to consider the other spin-off <span style="font-style: italic;">Resident Evil</span> titles, also. You might be skeptical to try out <span style="font-style: italic;">Umbrella Chronicles</span> because of the <span style="font-style: italic;">Gun Survivor </span>or <span style="font-style: italic;">Outbreak</span> games. This, thankfully, is not in the same league as that riffraff.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/21/wii-fanboy-review-resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wii Fanboy Review: Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/21/wii-fanboy-review-resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles/">Wii Fanboy Review: Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Nov 2007 18:18:00 EST. To help Japanese gamers keep this in mind, they're giving out this fancy Umbrella Corporation wallet along with copies of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/08/fresh-footage-of-umbrella-chronicles/"><em>Umbrella Chronicles</em></a> <a href="http://www.e-capcom.com/shop/?&amp;category=0001">preordered</a> through their <a href="http://e-capcom.com">e-Capcom</a> site. You can keep your money in there in the brief intervening period between <em>Resident Evil</em> purchases. People planning to buy Japanese copies of <em>Umbrella Chronicles</em> are rapidly accumulating quite a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/12/resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles-zapper-bundle-it-comes-with/">collection of stuff</a>!<br /><br />Similarly, all of your food has been determined to be the property of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/02/devil-kings-2-bows-down-offers-up-trailer/"><em>Sengoku Basara 2</em></a> -- oh, that doesn't work like it did for the wallet. Okay, they're giving away nice chopsticks along with preorders. Imagine a good joke in there or something.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/16/capcom-tells-you-where-your-money-should-go/">Capcom tells you where your money should go</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Oct 2007 14:15:00 EST. What a fresh and exciting idea, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Capcom/">Capcom</a>! And it's for a <em>Resident Evil </em>game, too-- that series <em><a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7579048&amp;postcount=116">never</a> </em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/capcom-wins-at-packaging/">has</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/31/capcom-gives-you-the-chance-to-win-some-biohazard-gear/">any</a> <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7625932&amp;postcount=130">promotional</a> <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7626379&amp;postcount=134">stuff</a>!<br /><br />This time, Capcom's offering a special "Expert Package" of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/08/fresh-footage-of-umbrella-chronicles/">Biohazard: Umbrella Chronicles</a> </em>(also known as <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/fresh-uc-screens-show-ken-doll-zombies/">Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</a>, </em>of course)<em>,</em> which contains the game, a special full-color, 28-page book called <em>Wesker's Extra Report </em>("For some reason, people have been trying to eat my head a lot. Conclusion: I am delicious.") and stickers! It also includes <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/21/wii-zapper-and-links-crossbow-training-packaging-details/">some white plastic thing</a>. It'll cost 8,610 yen ($74), just $12 more than the non-bundled version.<br /><br />Extras aside, we would love to choose which game we got with our Zapper. Japan gets this and a <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/02/ghost-squad-gets-zapper-bundle-in-japan/">Ghost Squad</a> </em>bundle, whereas we get <em>Link's Crossbow Training </em>only. Japanese gamers can get the regular Zapper bundle and then <em>also</em> one of these, ending up with two games and two shells. We're stuck with multiple <em>Crossbow</em> discs.<em> </em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/12/resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles-zapper-bundle-it-comes-with/">Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles' Zapper bundle: it comes with stuff!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Oct 2007 15:00:00 EST. If there's one thing we'll say about this video for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/fresh-uc-screens-show-ken-doll-zombies/"><em>Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</em></a>, it looks like reloading with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/21/wii-zapper-and-links-crossbow-training-packaging-details/">Wii Zapper</a> is going to be a big pain in the <em>rear end</em>. Still, we're excited to play the game and can't wait to have a new title in the <em>Resident Evil</em> franchise to play. If you're one who doesn't mind seeing a large portion of gameplay before the title's release, then hit up the link below to check out some footage.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=26739">Go Nintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/08/fresh-footage-of-umbrella-chronicles/">Fresh footage of Umbrella Chronicles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Oct 2007 12:45:00 EST. Sometimes a zombie is just going to be naked. We've all been there, fighting for our life against a horde of the undead, only to find one or more of them lacking clothes. It's pretty funny for a moment, then we've all got back to the <em>dispatching of the undead</em>. Old hat, we know.<br /><br />But these new <em>Umbrella Chronicles</em> screens are the stuff of nightmares. Naked zombies taking on a sort of doll-like appearance, lacking any kind of gender definition whatsoever? Man, that's all kinds of scary. Oh, and the mutant monkies aren't exactly the stuff of pleasant dreams, either.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/fresh-uc-screens-show-ken-doll-zombies/">Fresh UC screens show Ken doll zombies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Sep 2007 13:30:00 EST.
