Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles, released on Wii over the past couple years, will be bundled as Resident Evil Chronicles HD, ready to blast away on PS3 with Move support. Andriasang reports the announcement was made earlier today at Capcom's Resident Evil 15th anniversary event in Japan. No pricing, release date nor international distribution details were announced.

We wouldn't be too concerned about an international release, as an HD version of Chronicles is a low-risk second chance for Capcom to make some money from Darkside Chronicles, which failed to meet expectations, and Umbrella Chronicles, a million seller. Also, HD upgrades to on-rails shooters that launched on Wii are totally vogue -- just look at House of the Dead: Overkill or Dead Space Extraction.

It's your basic third-party Wii gun shell, but in a nice silver/black theme with Umbrella Chronicles branding, and includes Resident Evil-style Wiimote and Nunchuk skins.

The gun is available once again in Capcom's online store, for $29.95. It might be worth picking up if you're way into Umbrella Chronicles or if you plan to be way into Darkside Chronicles -- or, of course, if you're compelled to buy rare Capcom junk. Alternately, if you have a Fry's Electronics nearby, you may be able to snag one of these.

According to the latest issue of Japanese mag Famitsu, the Wii's Resident Evil fans indeed have something to be "very happy" about. Well, at least if they're keen on another round of super-speed Resident Evil nostalgia, likely presented in the form of another first-person point-and-shooter. Though Capcom USA has yet to officially announce the game nor any specific details, Biohazard: The Darkside Chronicles looks to feature Resident Evil 2's protagonist pair, Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Oh, and zombies. Lots of 'em.

Capcom's on-rail shooter, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, is getting close to becoming a million-seller. It's been revealed that the title has sold 950,000 copies, with the million mark well within its reach. Actually, it could have already broken a million sales, as this data is current as of the end of December.

The game did a lot better than Capcom initially thought, especially in the U.S. and Europe where it sold the strongest, as the company reveals the title did 50% better than their in-house estimations. Personally, we don't know why they would think a game about shooting the crap out of the living dead and genetically-altered beasties alike wouldn't sell a million. Plus, with the Resident Evil name attached to it, how could it not sell incredibly well?

The anger just isn't there this week as Zero Punctuation's Yahtzee experiences the difficulty curve of the Wii's zombie-blasting rail shooter, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. Yahtzee still "brings it" to our expectations, but what is there left to "be brought" when mocking the Resident Evil series?

Yahtzee takes digs at the RE story, dialogue, and tops it with some decent potshots at the characters -- but really, who hasn't done that at this point in gaming history? In the end, he respects Umbrella Chronicles for doing something different. Hopefully The Escapist can afford to get the guy a game to actually be angry about next week.

Before we start this, you might want to know that this blogger is a huge Resident Evil fan. I've got every Resident Evil game, countless posters, shirts and figurines from the various games. The original was one of the most important games in my development as a gamer. It helped make me the gamer I am today.

And when the franchise hit the GameCube, it was the icing on the cake. The Resident Evil remake that appeared on the system was amazing, along with Resident Evil 0 and the game that even franchise haters couldn't ignore, Resident Evil 4. As the first original game in the series on a Nintendo console since RE 4, this was an important game in my eyes.

One has to consider the other spin-off Resident Evil titles, also. You might be skeptical to try out Umbrella Chronicles because of the Gun Survivor or Outbreak games. This, thankfully, is not in the same league as that riffraff.

To help Japanese gamers keep this in mind, they're giving out this fancy Umbrella Corporation wallet along with copies of Umbrella Chronicles preordered through their e-Capcom site. You can keep your money in there in the brief intervening period between Resident Evil purchases. People planning to buy Japanese copies of Umbrella Chronicles are rapidly accumulating quite a collection of stuff!

Similarly, all of your food has been determined to be the property of Sengoku Basara 2 -- oh, that doesn't work like it did for the wallet. Okay, they're giving away nice chopsticks along with preorders. Imagine a good joke in there or something.

Oh, look, it's a collectors' edition bundle that probably won't leave Japan! What a fresh and exciting idea, Capcom! And it's for a Resident Evil game, too-- that series never has any promotional stuff!

This time, Capcom's offering a special "Expert Package" of Biohazard: Umbrella Chronicles (also known as Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, of course), which contains the game, a special full-color, 28-page book called Wesker's Extra Report ("For some reason, people have been trying to eat my head a lot. Conclusion: I am delicious.") and stickers! It also includes some white plastic thing. It'll cost 8,610 yen ($74), just $12 more than the non-bundled version.

Extras aside, we would love to choose which game we got with our Zapper. Japan gets this and a Ghost Squad bundle, whereas we get Link's Crossbow Training only. Japanese gamers can get the regular Zapper bundle and then also one of these, ending up with two games and two shells. We're stuck with multiple Crossbow discs.

If there's one thing we'll say about this video for Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, it looks like reloading with the Wii Zapper is going to be a big pain in the rear end. Still, we're excited to play the game and can't wait to have a new title in the Resident Evil franchise to play. Sometimes a zombie is just going to be naked. We've all been there, fighting for our life against a horde of the undead, only to find one or more of them lacking clothes. It's pretty funny for a moment, then we've all got back to the dispatching of the undead. Old hat, we know.

But these new Umbrella Chronicles screens are the stuff of nightmares. Naked zombies taking on a sort of doll-like appearance, lacking any kind of gender definition whatsoever? Man, that's all kinds of scary. Oh, and the mutant monkies aren't exactly the stuff of pleasant dreams, either.
