In fact, we'd go so far as to say that the little guy has <em>appreciated</em> in cuteness since then, and will continue to do so.<br /><br />Case in point, this 10-inch tall stuffed version of Josef, which is now <a href="http://amanita-design.net/store/robot-josef.html">available for pre-order</a> from developer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/amanita-design">Amanita Design</a>. The toy is hand-made in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipn%C3%ADk_nad_Be%C4%8Dvou">Lipn&iacute;k nad Bečvou</a> and costs $30, including shipping. You can even store useful items you find around the real world inside of Josef's robot body, just like in <em>Machinarium</em>. Delivery is expected "within 5 weeks," but you can get a better look right now in the gallery below.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/machinarium-josef-plushie/">Machinarium (Josef plushie)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/machinarium-josef-plushie/#5535370"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/robot-josef-machinarium-001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/machinarium-josef-plushie/#5535371"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/robot-josef-machinarium-003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/machinarium-josef-plushie/#5535372"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/robot-josef-machinarium-004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/machinarium-josef-plushie/#5535373"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/robot-josef-machinarium-005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/machinarium-josef-plushie/#5535374"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/robot-josef-machinarium-006_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/05/machinarium-plushie-now-available-for-pre-order/">Machinarium plushie now available for pre-order</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 05 Jan 2013 10:30:00 EST. Our families are meant to be the one guaranteed bit of love we have in this often cruel world - people who will support and embrace us even when the rest of creation has turned its back. But the tragedy of an abusive parent (usually driven by alcohol, drugs, or their own traumatic experience) casts a person that's meant to be a child's loving caretaker into the role of an enemy. Parental abuse turns what's meant to be one of the purest relationships of love into one of anger, distrust, and violence.<br /><br /><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/papo-yo"><em>Papo &amp; Yo</em></a> is a game about that tragedy. It's about a relationship that is by turns loving, gentle, and even playful, but can instantly turn into something ugly and full of violence and pain.<br /><br />As a video game, <em>Papo &amp; Yo</em> can be lacking - the mechanics are simple, and while the technology is capable of creating some beautiful moments, it's just as capable of being frustrating. As an expression of autobiographical emotion for creator Vander Caballero, however, and a rendition of the complicated relationship between a young son and his abusive father, <em>Papo &amp; Yo</em> succeeds in the strongest ways.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/papo-and-yo-e3-2012/">Papo &amp; Yo (E3 2012)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/papo-and-yo-e3-2012/#5074677"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/papo--yo-e31_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/papo-and-yo-e3-2012/#5074678"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/papo--yo-e32_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/papo-and-yo-e3-2012/#5074679"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/papo--yo-e33_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/papo-and-yo-e3-2012/#5074680"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/papo--yo-e34_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/papo-and-yo-e3-2012/#5074681"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/papo--yo-e35_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/14/papo-and-yo-review-father-knows-beast/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Papo &amp; Yo review: Father knows beast</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/14/papo-and-yo-review-father-knows-beast/">Papo &amp; Yo review: Father knows beast</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Aug 2012 18:30:00 EST. Throwing in the towel, getting the heck outta Dodge and all that. The robot apocalypse is coming to a head faster than we thought, and it's time for us to move to our safe-hut deep in the jungles of Malaysia. Goodnight, everyone!<br /><br />Michael Cook, a computer scientist at Imperial College London, has created an AI system that designs games -- clever, complex, slightly sadistic games -- and he has named it Angelina. Angelina has used "co-operative evolution" to make <a href="http://www.newscientist.com/movie/space-station-invaders"><em>Space Station Invaders</em></a>, an 8-bit platformer about a scientist trying to escape a space station full of aliens and homicidal robots. Cook provided the graphics and sound effects for Angelina, but still, we have to wonder how comfortable he is with that particular in-game scenario.<br /><br />We just spent the past 10 minutes <a href="http://www.newscientist.com/movie/space-station-invaders">playing a game</a> <em>designed by a computer</em>, and we enjoyed it. This is of course all a part of the machines' master plan -- get us complacent, then <em>wham</em>. Lasers everywhere. Either that or we can expect a flood of educational games about adopting children from third-world countries any day now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/16/ai-system-programs-a-game-with-a-suspicious-theme/">AI system programs a game with a suspicious theme</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Mar 2012 00:40:00 EST. We're sure PC players were disheartened to learn that Orcs Must Die! is officially <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/14/orcs-must-die-done-with-dlc-dev-working-on-two-new-projects/">done with downloadable content</a>. Of course, we imagine the news was more of a shock to Xbox users, as the XBLA version of the game has yet to receive any DLC at all. Good news then, as Robot assures Xbox users that DLC is still on the way.<br />
<br />
Speaking on the <a href="http://www.robotentertainment.com/forum/topic/YES.-There-will-be-Xbox-DLC">Robot forums</a> - a few days prior to revelation that DLC was over, actually - community manager Justin Korthof stated that the company definitely has DLC planned for the XBLA version but isn't "quite ready to announce details yet." He added that players can probably guess the details if they use their "imagination." Presumably, the DLC planned for XBLA will match the two packs <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/23/orcs-must-die-more-than-ever-with-the-first-dlc-pack-the-artif/">already</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/05/orcs-must-dies-lost-adventures-dlc-comes-to-pc-on-november-8/">released</a> for PC.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/18/robot-orcs-must-die-on-xbla-will-get-dlc/">Robot: Orcs Must Die! on XBLA will get DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Nov 2011 12:18:00 EST. The solution found after the break for using an NES controller with <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/reckless-racing-hd/id386237505?mt=8"><em>Reckless Racing</em></a> on the iPad is more mechanical than anything -- it attaches the boxy gamepad to a series of robotic fingers that interact with the iPad's capacitive touchscreen. But that doesn't make it any less awesome.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/16/hack-connects-nes-controller-to-ipad-using-robo-fingers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hack connects NES controller to iPad using robo-fingers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/16/hack-connects-nes-controller-to-ipad-using-robo-fingers/">Hack connects NES controller to iPad using robo-fingers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Mar 2011 06:10:00 EST. Ever since the (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/23/rumor-project-milo-canceled-tech-moved-to-fable-project/">recently departed</a>) <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/milo-and-kate">Milo</a> reared his adorable head, we've envisioned at bleak future of Kinect-powered robots ruling over mankind with an iron, articulated fist. We've even <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/10/kinect-hacks-self-driving-car/">seen the beginnings</a> of this inevitable transition. Thankfully, one <a href="http://taylor.veltrop.com/robotics/khrhumanoidv2.php?topic=vids">Taylor Veltrop</a> was smart enough to embed an all-important feature into <em>his</em> <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/kinect">Kinect</a> robot: human control.<br />

Robots are adorable. And sometimes, you just want to gift them the ability to see and learn more about their human creators. That's exactly what MIT's <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRPEns8MS2o">Philipp Robbel</a> has done with a hacked <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kinect">Kinect</a> sensor and an iRobot Create Robot.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/19/kinect-enables-robot-to-become-aware-of-its-surroundings-oh/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kinect enables robot to become aware of its surroundings -- oh, and detect humans</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/19/kinect-enables-robot-to-become-aware-of-its-surroundings-oh/">Kinect enables robot to become aware of its surroundings -- oh, and detect humans</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Nov 2010 03:00:00 EST. What's gonna give <em>Halo: Reach</em> the best shot at topping <em>Modern Warfare 2's</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/18/activision-modern-warfare-2-earned-550-million-in-first-five-days/">$310 million</a> in day-one sales? Marketing. Much to no one's surprise, Microsoft is splurging on its biggest game campaign to date, according to <a href="http://adage.com/article?article_id=145496">Advertising Age</a>. While <em>Reach's</em> marketing budget has not been disclosed, it's expected to easily top <em>Halo 3's </em>reported $6.5 million bill.<br />
<br />
The ad campaign, which began in earnest with a big-budget plug ... <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/video/bc91763a">for the multiplayer beta</a> (way back in April), will continue to use <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/17/halo-reach-live-action-short-goes-on-patrol/">live-action segments</a> to attempt to forge an emotional connection with a broad audience across TV and the web. "We're trying to get people to connect back to their lives, not computer graphics or something overly sci-fi," Taylor Smith, director of global marketing communications for Xbox, told Ad Age. "Live action is a way to capture that." In particular, director Noam Murro (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_People"><em>Smart People</em></a>) has created three live-action short films that depict life on planet Reach before the Covenant invasion.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, potential buyers will be urged to "remember <em>Reach"</em> as they consume Pepsi products. A renewed partnership between Microsoft and the snack-time mogul will put <em>Halo</em> branding on some 300 million Mountain Dew bottles and 30 million Doritos bags beginning next month. Of course, to top past efforts, Microsoft will expand the <em>Reach</em> campaign beyond these somewhat pedestrian reminders: Cue massive KUKA KR 140 robotic arm!<br />
<br />
The viral site <a href="http://www.rememberreach.com/">RememberReach.com</a>, which becomes <em>fully operational</em> at 3AM ET tomorrow, features a user-generated light sculpture of <em>Reach's</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/17/halo-reach-vidoc-looks-for-a-noble-spartan-to-rise/">Noble Team</a>, created by the robo-arm and some fancy camera equipment. Typically used to assemble cars, this KUKA bot has been outfitted with an LED and stationed in an undisclosed San Francisco warehouse. As detailed by <a href="http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2010/08/remember-reach/">GameLife</a>, visitors will direct the machine to plot the 54,000 points of light that will form this Noble Team "monument." Bizarre.<br />

We'd like to take a moment to wish all of humanity (and felinity?) the best of luck when dealing with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/risk-factions"><em>Risk: Factions</em>'</a> recently announced, third group of soldiers: the unfeeling, unstoppable Robot Menace. Check out <a href="http://www.viddler.com/explore/Joystiq/videos/3210/">the video above</a> to see the origins of this once-domesticated group's violent self-awareness, and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/risk-factions-robot-reveal/">screenshots</a> below to see the Robots in action.<br />
<br />
EA also revealed an Avatar costume piece based on the new faction, which turns your online representation's typically dopey head into a Robot's horrifying countenance. We're sure it will strike fear into your wall of adversaries in <em>1 vs 100</em>.<br />

You might feel like hurling it from the roof into a waiting wood chipper. You might feel like drowning it in your own tears in a desperate attempt to cool its heat-blasted insides and restore it to life. Ultimately, however, you'll probably do what we all do: Send it in for repair. That is, unless you're Jasper Stevens.<br />
<br />
Stevens, you see, decided to turn his busted box into a robot sculpture. Featured at <a href="http://technabob.com/blog/2010/03/03/xbox-rrodman-robot/">technabob</a>, Stevens' RRoDMan is most productive form of nerd rage we've ever seen. Even more impressive, Stevens claims that the uses no tape or glue. We can only assume that the sculpture is held together by <em>broken dreams</em>.<br />

We always figured that the Scarab was a pretty hefty <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/halo-wars"><em>Halo Wars</em></a> unit -- it is the very end of the Covenant tech tree, after all -- but apparently it needed a little extra juice. A new title update now available for the game grants Scarabs with 25 percent more health <em>and</em> 25 percent more damage. If you weren't terrified of them before, you might want to reconsider. <br />
<br />
Other changes include Gremlins requiring two reactors to build, Grunts doing more damage to air units and more. The update also fixes some bugs including the cryo/reactor glitch, which sounds like it was <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MncB7ppAE30">pretty awful</a>. See the full list of changes and fixes -- politely cribbed from <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/halowars.com">HaloWars.com</a> -- after the break.<br />

Who knew the robotic vacuum Roomba could do so much? In addition to automatically cleaning floors and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSiTZToJBy4">killing kittens</a>, the Roomba vacuum can also be used to play an elaborate version of <em>Pac-Man</em>. Developed by Jack Elston, Cory Dixon and Maciej Stachura, <em>Roomba Pac-Man</em> is meant to demonstrate the team's "Unmanned Aerial System software suite." It also effectively demonstrates that the three might have just a little <em>too</em> much free time on their hands.<br />
<br />
This is definitely an ingenious take on the classic arcade game. How often can you play a game that makes your room <em>cleaner</em>? Until Activision releases <em>Broom Hero</em>, the answer is "not very."<br />

How would you like a pet robot? Y'know, the kind that <em>doesn't</em> try to murder you? The PlayStation Home team showed a work-in-progress pet robot that can befriend you in your virtual apartment. According to <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/102/1021638p1.html">IGN</a>, the robot would be able to freely move around the environment and respond to your calls.<br /><br />The prototype (seen above) won't necessarily make it to the service, but it's something that Home is considering for future updates. This emotive box-robot was made in just five days, and given more time we're certain the Home team can come up with something really creative.<br /><br />[Thanks, Jack!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/05/virtual-pet-robot-demonstrated-in-playstation-home/">Virtual pet robot demonstrated in PlayStation Home</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 05 Sep 2009 12:15:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/square-enix">Square Enix</a> has its finger in a whole lot of pies right now -- but if <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=27499">a recent ESRB listing</a> is any indication, the developer might be preparing to sully its digits in yet another pastry. Said listing is for a PS3 and PSP title called <em>Thexder NEO</em> -- a new entry in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thexder">a classic Square-developed franchise</a>, which first appeared on the prehistoric <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NEC_PC-8801">NEC PC-8801</a> platform before making its way to PC and NES. Considering Square held the reins of this IP back in 1985, we're assuming the company will develop this new title -- but until we get more details, there's no way to be sure.<br /><br />According to the ESRB listing, <em>Thexder NEO</em> is "a side-scrolling action game in which players control a transforming robot through a series of maze-like levels." Stop right there, ESRB listing. <em>You had us at "robot."</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/24/square-reboot-thexder-neo-revealed-by-esrb-listing/">Square reboot Thexder NEO revealed by ESRB listing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 24 Aug 2009 10:45:00 EST. We <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/07/14-year-old-breaks-ghiii-fire-and-flames-record-guitars/">frequently like to joke</a> that people who show remarkable adeptness at <em>Guitar Hero</em> are actually robots, but as you might imagine, we <em>don't</em> really mean it. However, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUdXhhDDnaY">after viewing a recent video</a> (posted after the jump) showing a young man who not only plays through Ozzy Osborne's "Mr. Crowley" on Expert, but solves <em>two</em> Rubik's cubes while doing so, the only logical explanation we can come to is that his deft hands and keen mind <em>must</em> be composed of wires, servos and cold, unfeeling steel.<br /><br />By the way, if you happen to speak ill of this young automaton's abilities due to his only receiving a score of 77 percent on the song, we're going to punch you in the heart. We may even call you a "stupid jerk," depending on how much of our ire you end up evoking.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://kotaku.com/5332464/playing-guitar-hero-on-expert-while-solving-two-rubiks-cubes">Kotaku</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/08/kid-plays-guitar-hero-while-solving-two-rubiks-cubes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kid plays Guitar Hero while solving two Rubik's Cubes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/08/kid-plays-guitar-hero-while-solving-two-rubiks-cubes/">Kid plays Guitar Hero while solving two Rubik's Cubes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 08 Aug 2009 22:00:00 EST. Robot has <a href="http://www.halowars.com/">revealed specific details</a> regarding the third title update for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo-wars"><em>Halo Wars</em></a>. Most of the changes being implemented are for the sake of balancing the game, and there are also a handful of bug and exploit fixes. It looks like the effectiveness of the Gauss Warthog will see a reduction, with the unit doing less damage to tanks and <em>receiving</em> more damage from grenades. The Warthog will also take three seconds longer to build (25 seconds). Anders has also seen her research speed bonus reduced from 50 percent to 25 percent.<br /><br />There are a smattering of other changes, the most significant perhaps being that stockpiled units in a locked-down base will now release much faster when the base is unlocked. Very good news for anyone that has seen their stockpiled units killed one by one as they emerge from an unlocked base.<br /><br />Check out all the changes after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/10/halo-wars-title-update-3-details-revealed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Halo Wars title update 3 details revealed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/10/halo-wars-title-update-3-details-revealed/">Halo Wars title update 3 details revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Jul 2009 12:30:00 EST. When <a href="http://transmin.com.au/">your job</a> is to sit in an office all day, controlling a 15-ton robotic arm, things can get kind of boring. Thankfully, some ingenious operators decided to fool around with the arm at their disposal and managed to implement <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wiimote">Wiimote</a> controls. Judging by the YouTube video after the break, taking the thing for a spin with the Wiimote looks like it works quite well, as the gigantic yellow claw pretty much follows the movements of its operator exactly.<br /><br />If we weren't sure the giant claw cost more money than we could ever hope to see, we'd suggest playing the world's largest crane game, or a bit of <em>Let's See How Far We Can Throw This Minivan</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2009/07/massive_15_ton_grapple_controlled_b.html">Make</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/09/wiimote-controls-giant-claw-brings-man-and-machine-closer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wiimote controls giant claw, brings man and machine closer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/09/wiimote-controls-giant-claw-brings-man-and-machine-closer/">Wiimote controls giant claw, brings man and machine closer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Jul 2009 16:00:00 EST. For all you negative Nancys out there who just <em>couldn't</em> believe it when we told you that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo-wars"><em>Halo Wars</em></a> itself had <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/12/new-halo-wars-maps-revealed-by-halo-wars/">revealed some upcoming maps</a>, here's some more proof for you. New achievements have popped up on the Xbox.com <a href="http://live.xbox.com/en-GB/profile/Achievements/ViewAchievementDetails.aspx?tid=%09]:%15%18*iN%08|"><em>Halo Wars</em> page</a> in the UK, and they reveal -- wait for it -- new maps. The names of the maps just so happen to be the very same names we discovered back in May: Barrens, Blood River and Memorial Basin.<br /><br />If you <em>still</em> aren't convinced that new map DLC is on the way, you'll just have to wait for the official announcement. The rest of us will just sit here and act smug for a while.<br /><br />[Thanks, Richard]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/06/new-halo-wars-achievements-reveal-new-maps-again/">New Halo Wars Achievements reveal new maps (again)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Jul 2009 14:00:00 EST. The advanced AI known as <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/05/19/halo-wars-strategic-options-add-on-pack.aspx">Major Nelson</a> informs us that <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/halo-wars">Halo Wars</a></em>' "Strategic Options" DLC is available now for 800<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($10). Last June, Sony Computer Entertainment filled a patent application for a small robot accessory with multiple user-interaction options, according to <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/03/18/sony-computer-entertainment-making-a-robot-accessory/">Siliconera</a>. Along with the ability to <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/sonyrb.jpg"><em>bomb</em> around a user's house</a> like a distant cousin of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roomba">Roomba</a>, the SCE robot patent calls for the device to include a camera (presumably so it can watch you sleep at night) and display, a microphone for voice and sound command functions and speakers. According to the story, Sony also prepped <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/sonyrb2.jpg">upgrade options</a> for the <strike>bad idea</strike> device in the form of an acceleration and gyro sensor, and/or possibly a GPS receiver.<br /> <br /> In case the above sarcasm isn't enough, let's be clear. We don't think this is a good idea. No, not because this idea has been tested in the past -- and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R.O.B.">failed miserably</a>, mind you -- but because giving a robot this many options seems dangerous. A camera to watch you, GPS to track you, speakers to announce the coming Robotocalypse -- No, thank you! If this robot, which we hope is some kind of early and elaborate April Fool's joke, is ever announced and is codenamed <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skynet_(Terminator)">Skynet</a> ... just <em><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGoi1MSGu64">run</a>.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/19/sony-patents-the-playstation-robot/">Sony patented the PlayStation ... robot?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Mar 2009 20:30:00 EST. Recently <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/14/ensemble-studios-founder-creates-robot-entertainment/">formed</a> Robot Entertainment has answered the question of who's going to support <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo-wars">Halo Wars</a> </em>after its launch on March 3: the people who made it. Robot -- created by ex <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ensemble-studios">Ensemble Studios</a> staff, including its founder, Tony Good -- will not only provide online support and community management for the <em>Halo</em> universe RTS, but will be working with Microsoft Game Studios to create future content for the game.<br /><br />Robot will also be working with MGS on the Ensemble-created <em>Age of Empires</em> franchise going forward, with the intent to handle support for current and future titles in the series. In a <a href="http://www.robotentertainment.com/PressRelease.htm">release</a> issued today, the developer also announced that it has begun work on a new project based on an original IP. Given the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/02/closing-time-ensembles-unannounced-titles-revealed/">various unannounced projects</a> revealed when Ensemble closed its doors, we'd be surprised if this new game turns out to be another RTS.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/17/robot-to-develop-further-halo-wars-content-new-ip/">Robot to develop further Halo Wars content, new IP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Feb 2009 18:20:00 EST. It's been just under two weeks since <em>Age of Empires</em> and <em>Halo Wars</em> developer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/02/closing-time-ensembles-unannounced-titles-revealed/">Ensemble Studios closed its doors</a> and already one of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/29/ensemble-co-founder-says-goodbye-as-studio-closes/">two previously announced development studios</a> springing from its demise is forming like Voltron -- appropriately, they've named the new studio <a href="http://www.robotentertainment.com/">Robot Entertainment</a>. Tony Goodman, founder of Ensemble Studios way back in January of 1996, appears to be heading up the studio, whose website promises "big ideas" and ... well ... not much else. <br /><br />
<div align="left">Will Robot Entertainment be the studio supporting development of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/28/ensemble-already-looking-in-to-halo-wars-dlc/">the promised <em>Halo Wars</em> dlc</a>? That remains to be seen but, given co-founder <a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/01/29/bruce-shelley-says-farewell-to-ensemble-in-final-blog/">Bruce Shelley's words last month in his final blog post</a> on the community site (which is now shut down), there's roughly a 50/50 chance: "There are at least two new studios being formed by ES [Ensemble Studios] employees and I expect both to do very well." We've put in word to Robot Entertainment for comment and will update this post accordingly as news comes in.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=22133">Gamasutra</a>]<br />

If you needed further proof that we're quickly approaching the day when robots will outperform humans in all our endeavors, you may want to turn your attention to a tech demo for <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50SEmXDh6Bw">the <em>Guitar Hero</em>-playing "Cythbot"</a>, which we've posted after the jump. Using a light-measuring camera and six pneumatic "fingers", the Cythbot can strum its way through <em>Guitar Hero</em>'s more difficult songs with terrifying accuracy -- check out the Expert run through Living Color's "Cult of Personality" in the embedded video.<br /><br />In a recent write-up of the robo-shredder, <a href="http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2008/11/guitar-hero-rob.html">Wired compared Cythbot</a> to the chess-playing supercomputer "Deep Blue", which <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_Blue_-_Kasparov,_1996,_Game_1">toppled World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov</a> in 1996. We'd like to see the Kasparov of <em>Guitar Hero</em>, Chris Chike, take on the Cythbot in a battle for the fate of humanity -- though we're not certain that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/06/guitar-herowned-gh3s-hardest-song-rocked-100/">Mr. "I scored 100 percent on Dragonforce"</a> isn't, in fact, <em>also a robot</em>.<br /><br />[Thanks, Saria the Cat.]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/22/guitar-hero-playing-robot-takes-on-cult-of-personality/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Guitar Hero-playing robot takes on Cult of Personality</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/22/guitar-hero-playing-robot-takes-on-cult-of-personality/">Guitar Hero-playing robot takes on Cult of Personality</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 22 Nov 2008 18:00:00 EST. <br />Studio Zan is lining up a November release in Japan for <em>Overturn</em>, a new vehicular <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fighting">combat</a> game that sees manga characters (who look <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overturn/1115020/">oddly out of place</a> next to the game's 3D arenas) take control of hulking great robots.<br /><br /><em>Overturn</em> has yet to be priced or confirmed for a western release, but a Game Watch preview reveals that it will come with a Story mode, local multiplayer, WiFi play for upto four players, Balance Board compatibility, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overturn/1115028/">full online leaderboards</a>. Nice. Oh, and it reminds us of <a href="http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=lWOym0TODaM"><em>Robot Wars</em></a>.<br /> <br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overturn/">Overturn</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overturn/#1474299"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/overturnmw040601_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overturn/#1474298"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/overturnmw040607_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overturn/#1474297"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/overturnmw040606_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overturn/#1474296"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/overturnmw040605_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overturn/#1474295"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/overturnmw040604_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/23/the-robots-are-coming-overturn-hits-japanese-wiiware-next-month/">The robots are coming: Overturn hits Japanese WiiWare next month</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Oct 2008 15:30:00 EST. It's all done via a series of photodiodes, which pick up the changes in light from the screen in up to eight nanoseconds. While we've seen <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/11/friday-video-nunchuk-camera-hack/">a nunchuk control a robotic camera</a> and the U.S. government's experimental <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/28/new-weapon-against-bomb-threats-waggle/http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/28/new-weapon-against-bomb-threats-waggle/">Packbot</a>, we've yet to see anything as sophisticated as this. With the video being past the post break (sorry, but it autoplays and we can't be having that on the main page), we'll save the narrative introduction of describing what this thing is and why it does what it does so well. Just know this: <span style="font-style: italic;">it's pretty awesome</span>.<br /><br />Cruise past the post break and check out this Wiimote-controlled robotic arm and see for yourself.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/22/robotic-arm-bends-to-the-will-of-the-wiimote/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Robotic arm bends to the will of the Wiimote</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/22/robotic-arm-bends-to-the-will-of-the-wiimote/">Robotic arm bends to the will of the Wiimote</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 May 2008 16:00:00 EST. Well, good if you like robots. And nunchuks. Odds are if you're reading this site, you do. Success!<br /><br />Anyway, the video may be lacking in the "how to do this" area, but it is certainly not lacking that cool factor. We can imagine a million different uses for a robotic camera such as this. Let us list a few:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Finding loose snack chips that fell behind the sofa</li>
    <li>Powerpoint presentations (just attach a pointer to the camera's head)</li>
    <li>Spying on your ex-girlfriend or boyfriend</li>
    <li>Creating your very own <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eK_qg6a29qM">Roboquad</a></li>
</ul>

We like the way the U.S. military thinks. One of the Wii's biggest flaws is the painful stretches of downtime between <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Smash-Bros-Brawl/">its bigger releases</a>, causing dust to settle on Nintendo's minuscule console and cobwebs to form on our Wiimotes. What better way to get more mileage out of our neglected gyroscopic peripherals <a href="http://www.metro.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=128035&amp;in_page_id=34">than to use them to blow up actual bombs and landmines</a>?<br /><br />This must have been the thought process of <a href="http://www.irobot.com/sp.cfm?pageid=170">those techno-wizards at iRobot</a>, who have modified their Packbot model to be controlled by a standard Wii remote. It seems they discovered that Nintendo's motion-sensitive controller doesn't just lend itself to instinctive, natural interaction with games like <em>Wii Tennis</em>, but also with maneuvering rifle-mounted, explosive-detonating robots -- just remember to <strong>always</strong> use the wrist strap. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/20/flying-wiimote-busts-60-tv/">Impaling a TV screen while hitting the <em>Wii Bowling</em> lanes</a> is embarassing, throwing the reigns of a gun-toting war machine is just plain irresponsible.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/29/u-s-military-using-wiimote-controlled-packbot-to-disable-bombs/">U.S. Military using Wiimote-controlled Packbot to disable bombs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 29 Mar 2008 20:30:00 EST. They've adapted <a href="http://www.irobot.com/sp.cfm?pageid=171">Packbot</a>, made by the company that built <a href="http://store.irobot.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2580729&amp;cp=2174940.2501652&amp;parentPage=family">my vacuum cleaner</a>, to accept commands from a Wiimote -- we assume that includes motion input as well, otherwise there'd be no point in using the Wiimote.<br /><br />The idea behind the experiment is that the Wii's "more instinctive" controls allow for better maneuvering of Packbot and thus more effective (and less dangerous) bomb disposal. As long as nobody on the <em>Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz</em> team is involved with programming the controls.<br /><br />We're a little bummed that we'll never get a chance to play with the exclusive "Bomb-Defusing Robot" peripheral, although we know the accessories would get expensive, and also we'd probably die.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/03/military-adapts.html">Game|Life</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/28/new-weapon-against-bomb-threats-waggle/">New weapon against bomb threats: waggle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Mar 2008 10:30:00 EST. So maybe Charlie isn't <em>really</em> coming for your soul, but he is awfully <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/12/even-cardboard-robots-like-wii/">cute</a>, and since he needs only a Wii nunchuk, a transmitter, and a little attention, he's pretty awesome, too. Creator frank26080115 designed the RC robot to work in a variety of ways with the nunchuk for control; he can use the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/19/man-uses-wiimote-to-control-robotic-joystick/">joystick</a> to move the little guy around, or with the Z-button depressed, the scheme allows for full motion controls. Using the C button, he can control Charlie's head. Better still? There's code and more available for all you robot aficionados at home, so you can get to work on your own version.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://hackawii.com/wii-nunchuck-controlled-robot-uses-arduino-microcontroller/">Hack a Wii</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/14/nunchuk-robot-coming-for-your-soul/">Nunchuk robot coming for your soul</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Jan 2008 14:15:00 EST. With THQ handling duties on previous Pixar films' game adaptation <em>Ratatouille</em>, it comes as little surprise that they're taking care of business regarding the upcoming game based on the soon-to-release film <em>WALLo.E</em> (short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class). The story follows a small robot (<em>WALLo.E</em>, natch) on a journey of self-discovery. <br /><br />The movie is currently scheduled for a release this summer.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/03/thq-plans-games-based-on-pixars-wall-e-nobody-surprised/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/03/thq-handling-game-duties-for-upcoming-pixar-film/">THQ handling game duties for upcoming Pixar film</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Jan 2008 11:15:00 EST. <br />Russian studio Vogster Entertainment hasn't yet formally announced <em>Kaboom Kaboom</em>, its comedy-filled <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/RTS/">RTS</a> title set in "a world of wise-cracking <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/robot">robots</a>," but what we've picked up about the game so far sounds spectacular!<br />
<ul>
    <li>Pick-up-and-play touchscreen controls</li>
    <li>25+ weapons</li>
    <li>20+ level story mode</li>
    <li>2-4 player versus and co-op modes (online play not announced)<br /></li>
    <li>Upgradeable robots with "distinct personalities and attitudes"</li>
    <li>Hero characters with enhanced weaponry and skills</li>
</ul>
While we're not sure how far along Vogster is with <em>Kaboom Kaboom's</em> development -- no publisher has been revealed, and the artwork above is the only piece of media hitherto released -- we still have a while before the game's expected release next spring. For those wondering whether the Russian team's story and humor will translate well with American tastes, you'll be happy to hear that Vogster has been working with writers from the <em>Spongebob Squarepants</em> series to put together <em>Kaboom Kaboom's</em> script. <br /><br />[Via <em>Nintendo Power</em>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/14/kaboom-kaboom-russians-robots-and-real-time-strategy/">Kaboom Kaboom: Russians, robots, and real-time strategy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Dec 2007 12:00:00 EST. With this week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/06/ds-releases-for-the-week-of-august-6th/">releases</a> consisting of different games starring a robotic boy, if you're looking for a new game then you best be a fan of Capcom's <em>Mega Man </em>franchise. If you aren't (we'll pretend we didn't hear that), what games will you plan on rocking this weekend? We know if you live in Japan, you'll have plenty to play. Then again, if you live in Japan, you're probably a <em>spoiled jerk</em>.<br /><br />Sorry, our jealousy gets the best of us sometimes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/10/wrup-a-bot-of-mega-proportions-edition/">WRUP: A bot of mega proportions edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Aug 2007 12:20:00 EST. Here are a few headlines that enunciate the differences in perception between the gaming hardcore and the general public:<br />
<ul>
    <li><em>Forbes</em>: "<a href="http://www.forbes.com/technology/2007/07/12/games-nintendo-wii-tech-cx_0712nintendo.html">Can The Wii Save Your Life?</a>"</li>
    <li><em>Washington Post</em>: "<a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/07/11/AR2007071102149.html">Game On - Nintendo Is Star of E3 Show as Rivals Scramble to Catch Up</a>"</li>

</ul>
<span style="font-style: italic;">The Mercury News</span> went so far as to fashion together an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/robot">automaton</a> (see image above) out of coils and Wii scraps in order to illustrate Nintendo's domination. We'd be too scared to even compete with the company, knowing that this ED-209-esque villain could break into our houses and stamp us out at any moment. Jump past the post break for a better view of its hulking figure.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/13/mainstream-press-loves-wiifit-constructs-wii-robot-as-tribute/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E307: Mainstream press loves WiiFit, constructs Wii robot as tribute</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/13/mainstream-press-loves-wiifit-constructs-wii-robot-as-tribute/">E307: Mainstream press loves WiiFit, constructs Wii robot as tribute</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Jul 2007 14:45:00 EST. In addition to the new screenshots viewable in the gallery below, there's also a minute-and-a-half-long trailer for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/SquareEnix/">Square Enix</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/SRPG/">SRPG</a> past the post break. If you need more than just combat clips and menu hopping to get you going, scroll down a bit further for the original Japanese trailer.<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Front Mission DS</span> finally bring the series' first entry to the states, adding touchscreen controls, multiplayer battles (local only), and several new Wanzers to the mech-based title. While this release already includes the alternative UCS storyline from the PlayStation remake, five new missions specific to the DS version have also been added.<br /><br />RPGamer had a chance to sit down with producer Koichiro Sakamoto to discuss the handheld port and his thoughts on bringing more <span style="font-style: italic;">Front Mission</span> games to the DS. According to the interview, were it not for the campaigning of a particular team member, North America might not have received the game: "There was one [who] was very passionate about the game, and wanted to give players in the United States the chance to experience. He felt that <span style="font-style: italic;">Front Mission 3</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">4</span> proved that there is a userbase, and since the DS is currently very popular, the thinking went, 'Why not give it a try?'"<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/12/front-mission-ds-interview-and-media-galore/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E307: Front Mission DS interview and media galore</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/12/front-mission-ds-interview-and-media-galore/">E307: Front Mission DS interview and media galore</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Jul 2007 11:30:00 EST. Looks like there'll be shoot outs, mine cart rides and cow herdin' a plenty in the budget title. Navigation, aiming and shooting will all be handled through the stylus, of course. They've really tried to keep things historically accurate, with 30 foot robots and killer bats populating the game, but hey, you'll be able to defend yourself with your trusty machine gun. Oh, and you're a lion.<br /><br />Click through for the screens.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/11/the-wild-west-as-youve-never-seen-it-before/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Wild West as you've never seen it before [Update 1]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/11/the-wild-west-as-youve-never-seen-it-before/">The Wild West as you've never seen it before [Update 1]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 May 2007 16:00:00 EST.
