Bhatia projects <em>Grand Theft Auto V</em> will debut during the first three months of 2013 and will pull in $700 million in revenue for Take-Two Interactive with 14 million copies sold over its launch window - though Bhatia didn't say just how long he considers this launch window to be.<br /><br />This $700 million figure is close to the $775 million earned by <em>Modern Warfare 3 </em>in its first five days of launch back in November, which is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/17/activision-modern-warfare-3-sales-reach-775-million-in-five-da/">an entertainment record</a> that has yet to be bested. Rockstar's previous effort, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/grand-theft-auto-iv"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a>, has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/16/gta-iv-surpasses-22m-shipped-franchise-at-114m-total/">shipped over 22 million copies</a> worldwide.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/26/analyst-gta-v-will-launch-in-q1-2013-sell-14-million-copies/">Analyst: GTA V will launch in Q1 2013, sell 14 million copies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 May 2012 18:00:00 EST. So good to have you back. You look a little tired, friend. Is it all that leaping and shooting, or is it something more? Sit down, sip a little vodka and look at what they're saying about you. The aesthetic overhaul is certainly the most noticeable, though there's no understating the impact that certain gameplay modernizations have had on the experience. While fans might have a hard time processing the dramatic change in tone, it's approached with a seriousness and conviction that I respect, and frankly, have come to expect from Rockstar."</li> <li> <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/reviews/max-payne-3-review">Edge</a> (<span style="font-weight: bold;">70</span><strong>/100</strong>): "<em>Max Payne 3</em> might solve the problem of how you manage to reload when carrying more than one gun, but detailing alone can't change the fact that this is a surprisingly conservative game from Rockstar. Its absorption of cover mechanics makes Payne feel more familiar than he should, but even then his signature tricks are over a decade old. This is a game about a world-weary killer doing the only thing he knows how to, and for all its spectacular action beats there's something apt about Max's fatigue."<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/">Max Payne 3 (5/14/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022389"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3248_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022390"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022391"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3288_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022392"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3290_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022393"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3295_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></li></ul><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/14/metareview-max-payne-3/">Metareview: Max Payne 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 May 2012 18:00:00 EST. A quiet moment of remembrance, dour and dusted in snow, is soon buried beneath the sound of gunfire. This man exists to kill, and the tombstone that names his murdered wife and daughter is there to provide cover.<br /><br />The transition from emotionally tinged burial ground to functional battleground is at once touching and tasteless, presented in that kind of awkward, bittersweet combination that video games have gotten down to an art form. Can you really argue with the outcome? The cemetery perfectly recalls the birth of Max, the cynical, disheveled vigilante - and what better playground for Max, the cover-based shooter, than a plot of land filled with upright granite slabs? Rockstar can't outrun the nature of the game, no more than its wrecked anti-hero can escape his nature as problem solver via midair shooting.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/">Max Payne 3 (5/14/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022389"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3248_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022390"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022391"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3288_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022392"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3290_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022393"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3295_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/14/max-payne-3-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Max Payne 3 review: Nature of the beast</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/14/max-payne-3-review/">Max Payne 3 review: Nature of the beast</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 May 2012 13:15:00 EST. Take-Two is a publicly traded company, and one fewer gigantic product launch during the holiday season - arguably Take-Two's <em>only</em> holiday product launch, unless you count fall launches of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/borderlands-2"><em>Borderlands 2</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/xcom-enemy-unknown"><em>XCOM: Enemy Unknown</em></a> as "holiday" - means that shareholders will want to know what's up. That worry is reflected in Take-Two's stock price, which took a <a href="http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=TTWO">five percent hit</a> since the market opened this morning.<br /><br />But when <em>Infinite</em> got pushed out of the holiday season, it opened the slot up for another high-profile Take-Two-published title: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/grand-theft-auto-5"><em>Grand Theft Auto 5</em></a>. "In our view, the delay opens the window for <em>Grand Theft Auto V</em> to be released in October 2012," Michael Pachter of Webush Securities wrote in an email this morning, echoing a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/08/rockstar-north-employee-cv-gives-grand-theft-auto-v-an-october-l/">release window leak</a> from earlier this year.<br /><br />In his eyes, <em>Infinite</em> wasn't just delayed to make it "something even more extraordinary," as Ken Levine put it, but because the folks at Rockstar, "notified Take-Two that <em>GTA V</em> would be ready for October." He believes this resulted in Take-Two offering Irrational Games an extra few months to prepare <em>BioShock Infinite</em>. His logic? "The studio [Rockstar Games] has scheduled every prior GTA release during that month (with <em>GTA IV</em> delayed to April 2008, due to bugs in the PS3 version)."<br /><br />Furthermore, Pachter and co. speculate we could hear more about <em>GTA 5</em>'s launch date "as early as May 22" during a scheduled quarterly investor call, or perhaps in a few more weeks at E3 2012. We've yet to hear back from Irrational, Rockstar, or Take-Two on the subject.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/09/wedbush-thinks-grand-theft-auto-5-will-launch-in-october/">Wedbush thinks Grand Theft Auto 5 will launch in October</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 May 2012 14:15:00 EST. Instead, they're more reminiscent of a film classic from 2002 set in Rio de Janeiro's poorest neighborhood, <em>City of God</em>. Take a look at the new multiplayer trailer above, then compare with a trailer for the film below the break. We think you'll see <em>more than a few</em> similarities.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/03/max-payne-3s-multiplayer-footage-gets-us-all-nostalgic/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Max Payne 3's multiplayer footage gets us all nostalgic</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/03/max-payne-3s-multiplayer-footage-gets-us-all-nostalgic/">Max Payne 3's multiplayer footage gets us all nostalgic</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 May 2012 16:45:00 EST. You can purchase that track on iTunes on May 15th, along with full soundtrack on May 23.<br /><br />The soundtrack comes from Health - the band, not the state of being that comes from eating right and exercising. Health is an LA-based collective formed in 2006. "Health have created hundreds of hours of amazing music for the game's score, and distilled it into a devastatingly moody and atmospheric soundtrack album," <a href="http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/33041/max-payne-3-soundtrack-details-official-album-featuring-music-by.html/">says</a> Rockstar's soundtrack supervisor, Ivan Pavlovich. Rockstar today announced plans for seven separate DLC packs spanning June through next fall, following the game's launch in May. June's "Local Justice Map Pack" kicks off the content expansions, adding three new multi maps, including one that works with the game's "Gang Wars" mode (Police Precinct), as well as the others (Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Payne Killer).<br /><br />This summer will see four additional map packs dropping, and the fall will bring two more. Should all of this be conflicting with your good budget sense, Rockstar's season pass is returning from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/la-noire"><em>LA Noire</em></a>, this time offering a 35 percent discount over buying each pack individually. The pass costs $30.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/01/max-payne-3-dlc-plans-laid-out-grab-all-with-rockstar-pass/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Max Payne 3 DLC plans laid out, grab all with Rockstar pass</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/01/max-payne-3-dlc-plans-laid-out-grab-all-with-rockstar-pass/">Max Payne 3 DLC plans laid out, grab all with Rockstar pass</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 May 2012 11:45:00 EST. Spurs game on ESPN last night, and it's chock full of all the Max Payne-y things you'd expect - slow motion bullets, slow motion jumping, slow motion ladies, etc.<br /><br />It's a little sad that the game is billed as "from the makers of <em>Grand Theft Auto</em> and <em>Red Dead Redemption</em>," considering that the original <em>Max Payne</em> predates both <em>GTA3</em> and the entire Red Dead franchise. Then again, a modern 18 year old gamer would only have been seven years old when the series originally debuted in 2001, so we can't really blame Rockstar for playing to its target demographic's familiarities. Kids these days with their <em>Macintosh computers</em> and their <em>Fiat 500s</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/21/heres-max-payne-3s-tv-commercial/">Here's Max Payne 3's TV commercial</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 21 Apr 2012 13:30:00 EST. Pre-ordering the PC download version not only nets some in-game incentives, but some money that goes toward other Rockstar games.<br /><br />First, Amazon is giving all pre-orderers a $10 voucher for an immediate download of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/max-payne-2-the-fall-of-max-payne"><em>Max Payne 2</em></a>, which just so happens to cost $10 on Amazon, so that's free. Amazon will knock down the price for both <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/l-a-noire"><em>L.A. Noire</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/grand-theft-auto-iv"><em>GTA IV</em></a> to $4.99 up until April 15. You'll be able to grab those gratis with another $10 voucher if you want, or spend it on other Rockstar wares.<br /><br />On top of the free games, a pre-order will also grant you several pieces of in-game content: a classic skin pack for multiplayer that includes characters from past games; a multiplayer weapons pack; increased painkiller capacity; and a "Max Payne Retro Avatar."<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: Whoops, as you probably noticed, it's April 18. Character animator Alex O'Dwyer is an employee at Rockstar North, according to both <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=73340953&amp;authType=NAME_SEARCH&amp;authToken=8IeI&amp;locale=en_US&amp;srchid=2be6a65a-3e9f-4413-a832-ef56d952f128-0&amp;srchindex=1&amp;srchtotal=3&amp;goback=%2Efps_PBCK_*1_Alex_O%27Dwyer_*1_*1_*1_*1_*2_*1_Y_*1_*1_*1_false_1_R_*1_*51_*1_*51_true_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2&amp;pvs=ps&amp;trk=pp_profile_name_link">his LinkedIn page</a> and <a href="https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6vwjTe7AMPUN3JQV25idHlRQ3VhY1ZRQURnYl8zQQ/edit?pli=1">his CV</a>, and he seems to think that <em>Grand Theft Auto V</em> will launch this October.<br /><br />As seen in the image above, O'Dwyer's CV puts <em>GTA V</em>'s launch window firmly in the holiday season - not exactly a bizarre concept considering Rockstar's history of launching GTA titles during the holidays (with the exception of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/grand-theft-auto-iv"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a>, that is). It would also put sufficient time between Rockstar's May launch of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/max-payne-3"><em>Max Payne 3</em></a>, but would <em>totally</em> buck the trend of Rockstar releasing more than one title in any given year. It's worth noting that Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive, may not be keen on launching <em>GTA V</em> in the same month as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/bioshock-infinite"><em>BioShock Infinite</em></a>.<br /><br />Regardless, we've reached out to Rockstar and O'Dwyer for comment, but, well ... it's Easter. Hopefully we'll hear something soon. For now, we're putting this squarely in the "rumor" column.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Mr. O'Dwyer's CV was pulled down. We still haven't heard from Rockstar, nor have we heard from Mr. O'Dwyer regarding the date.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/08/rockstar-north-employee-cv-gives-grand-theft-auto-v-an-october-l/">Rockstar North employee CV gives Grand Theft Auto V an October launch window [update: CV pulled]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 08 Apr 2012 12:45:00 EST. That Rockstar took the time to implement touch controls so that <em>LA Noire</em> could be played natively is equally laudable. That said, the touch support isn't nearly as well-implemented as it might have been and is, in fact, downright clunky.<br /><br />In short, it's <em>LA Noire</em> on a tablet with virtual controls, which plays out exactly how you think it does.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/23/hands-on-with-la-noire-on-a-tablet-with-onlive/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hands-on with LA Noire on a tablet with OnLive</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/23/hands-on-with-la-noire-on-a-tablet-with-onlive/">Hands-on with LA Noire on a tablet with OnLive</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 23 Mar 2012 18:30:00 EST. Rockstar Games makes some astoundingly popular games -- games that have net him quite a bit of dough over the years. So what does a super rich New Yorker with a flair for the creative do with all that dough? He buys a $12.5 million house, of course. And not just any house, but Truman Capote's original haunt in New York's Brooklyn Heights neighborhood (in "Broker" for all you <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/grand-theft-auto-iv"><em>GTAIV</em></a> fans).<br /><br />The beautiful canary yellow house features 18 rooms (11 bedrooms alone) and its $12.5 million asking price is the largest tag attached to a house in the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood (as in, "<em>of all time</em>"). Houser also owns a loft on Greene Street in lower Manhattan, making the new locale his "vacation home." At least that's what we assume people refer to their Brooklyn homes as when they <em>also</em> own property in Manhattan. Those bridges are pretty long, ya know!<br /><br />[Image credit: <a href="http://streeteasy.com/nyc/sale/520815-townhouse-70-willow-street-brooklyn-heights-brooklyn">StreetEasy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/21/rockstar-head-houser-nabs-capote-mansion-for-12-5-million/">Rockstar head Houser nabs Capote mansion for $12.5 million</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Mar 2012 15:30:00 EST. If you load up <em>LA Noire</em> in an OnLive mobile app, you can play it by directly swiping across the screen rather than using virtual buttons or <a href="http://www.onlive.com/controller">OnLive's wireless controller</a>.<br /><br />You'll need a free OnLive account to sign on to the service, and you'll need to buy <em>LA Noire</em> on the service if you want to play the whole thing (though just like all of the other games on OnLive, there is a free trial available to play with as well, no installation required).<br /><br />And for now, you'll still need an Android tablet. OnLive has said it's working on an iOS version, but even though the company has <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/onlive-desktop/id490292278?mt=8">released an iOS app</a> for its Windows PC cloud service, the game client is "still in approval process with Apple," the company told Joystiq. It's been in that situation ever since it was announced, which suggests perhaps Apple isn't so happy with the app, though OnLive couldn't confirm anything along those lines. At any rate, if you have the app on Android and want to try touching <em>LA Noire</em> a little more directly, give it a shot.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/20/onlive-and-rockstar-release-touch-controlled-version-of-la-noire/">OnLive and Rockstar release touch-controlled version of LA Noire</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Mar 2012 00:01:00 EST. It was news to me when I went looking up the term this morning, searching for a way to contextualize the evolution of <em>Max Payne</em> that I experienced when playing Rockstar's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/max-payne-3"><em>Max Payne 3</em></a> recently. According to Wikipedia -- which totally has <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullettime">its own listing</a> for the term, <em>of course</em> -- the "word" was copyrighted alongside the first <em>Matrix</em> film. That film came out in 1999, two years before Remedy would reappropriate the concept for its first Max Payne game.<br /><br />No similarly bizarre history can be applied to the term "shootdodge," the portmanteau a Rockstar rep used to describe "Max's classic dive move." In <em>Max Payne 3</em>, the maneuver plays as crucial a role as ever. The majority of the time during my demo I spent with Max leaping in slow motion, or shooting in slow motion, or shooting and leaping in slow motion, all the while desperately trying to shoot dudes in their domes. Yes, fans, bullet time is still here, ready for use in tandem with the newly minted "shootdodge."<br /><br /><em>Max Payne 3</em> didn't hold my hand during that hour, though I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want it to given the whole "addicted to painkillers/alcoholism" thing. Like Max's life during the setting of <em>Max Payne 3</em>, my playthrough was all sink or swim. But despite some initial skepticism over the difficulty, I walked away excited about the design choices Rockstar has made, such as taking the safety off of shooting and forcing precision from players conditioned to aim-assisted console offerings. (Which describes <em>me</em>, by the way.)<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-3-1-12/">Max Payne 3 (3/1/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-3-1-12/#4857237"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/rsgmp3187_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-3-1-12/#4857238"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/rsgmp3226_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-3-1-12/#4857239"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/rsgmp3234_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-3-1-12/#4857240"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/rsgmp3252_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-3-1-12/#4857241"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/rsgmp3254_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/01/learning-how-to-shootdodge-with-max-payne-3/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Learning how to 'shootdodge' with Max Payne 3</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/01/learning-how-to-shootdodge-with-max-payne-3/">Learning how to 'shootdodge' with Max Payne 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Mar 2012 12:20:00 EST. In other words, it's possible "TV" stands for something else, but we're betting against that. We've reached out to Rockstar and Take-Two for comment, but have yet to hear back as of publishing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/21/gta-tv-and-rockstar-tv-trademarked-by-take-two/">'GTA TV' and 'Rockstar TV' trademarked by Take Two</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Feb 2012 13:00:00 EST. Alright, well, that's <em>part</em> of the reason, but helicopters are apparently extra prevalent in Sao Paolo, Brazil -- the setting for at least part of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/max-payne-3"><em>Max Payne 3</em></a> -- and the devs at Rockstar discovered this while touring the city by air. As it turns out, since traffic is a huge problem in the Brazilian megacity, rich folks have taken to helicopters as a main means of travel. Oh, also, there are motorcycle gangs that take advantage of the traffic, making it extra dangerous. Sounds like a good excuse to become a helicopter pilot! Max will apparently be wrestling with the wealth disparity he discovers in Brazil -- a reality he feels uncomfortable with regardless of what continent he's on.<br /><br />And when those devs were looking for an authentic nightclub experience, they hobnobbed their way into exclusive nightclubs like the "rooftop lounge scene at the chic Hotel Unique," and pushed their way into parties along Avenue Morumbi. Per the trailer, we're gonna guess that the Rockstar devs didn't extend that same search for realism to allowing themselves to be kidnapped by one of Sao Paolo's many street gangs, but in the interest of their safety we're keen to let that one slide.<br /><br />Today's info dump is the second in an ongoing research series that the developer is publishing in the lead up to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/02/max-payne-3-out-on-xbox-and-ps3-may-15-pc-may-29/">this May's launch of <em>MP3</em></a>. None of this is going to change in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/max-payne-3"><em>Max Payne 3</em></a>, Rockstar said in this week's <a href="http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/20451/part-2-of-this-weeks-asked-answered-max-payne-3-details-and-more.html">Asked &amp; Answered</a> session.<br /><br />"As we've stated in the past, we're working very hard to ensure that we're being faithful and true to the heritage of Max Payne -- and the heart and soul of Max Payne gameplay has always been as a pure shooter," Rockstar said. Max will have melee opportunities in close-quarter combat, but otherwise Rockstar has "no intention of betraying that to introduce driving/racing or brawling elements."<br /><br />Rockstar also provided a brief update on its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/08/max-payne-1-going-mobile-in-full-hd/">mobile installment</a> of the original <em>Max Payne</em>, saying it should see an official launch in the next couple months, with a release date to be announced soon.<br /><br />Rockstar fields more questions about Remedy and <em>Max Payne 3</em> on its <a href="http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/20451/part-2-of-this-weeks-asked-answered-max-payne-3-details-and-more.html">Asked &amp; Answered</a> page.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/16/max-payne-3-staying-true-to-its-roots-but-will-be-uprooted-for/">Max Payne 3 staying true to its roots, but will be uprooted for mobile</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Feb 2012 15:00:00 EST. Some new <em>Minecraft</em> maps may do just that.<br /><br /><em>Red Dead Redemption</em>'s Armadillo and Blackwater towns have been recreated in <em>Minecraft</em> and can be downloaded over on fan site Planet Minecraft. Considering the blockbuster third entry in the series is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/15/psa-grand-theft-auto-3-now-available-on-ios-android/">available on iOS and Android</a>, word of it coming to the PS3 isn't the craziest news we've heard about the classic title in recent memory.<br /><br />The third entry in the <em>GTA3</em> series, <em>Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas</em>, still doesn't have a PS3 listing from the ESRB, so we aren't sure if it's just cruisin' in later for a drive-by or part of what's likely Rockstar adding the two other games to PSN for digital distribution. Of course, if you own a first-gen PS3, your system is backwards-compatible and should have no issue playing the original PlayStation 2 discs (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/16/gta-iv-surpasses-22m-shipped-franchise-at-114m-total/">chances are you already own them</a>).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/23/grand-theft-auto-3-and-gta-vice-city-rated-by-esrb-for-ps3/">Grand Theft Auto 3 and GTA: Vice City rated by ESRB for PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Jan 2012 08:53:00 EST. When <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/max-payne-3"><em>Max Payne 3</em></a> arrives at retail later this year, its main protagonist will be equipped especially well for handling the flood of dudes shooting bullets at him over the course of the game's globetrotting campaign. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/max-payne-3"><em>Max Payne 3</em></a> has entered bullet time, slowing the linear progression of events to the point where the game has shifted its own launch from March to May. This would be the second major title the publisher shifted out of March, with its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/08/xcom-delayed-beyond-q1-2012/"><em>XCOM</em> shooter also moving</a> into the next fiscal year, which begins April 1.<br />
<br />
The delay is expected to have Take-Two report a net loss for the fiscal year ending March 31. The company previously expected <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/08/take-two-earns-107m-in-second-fiscal-quarter-thanks-to-l-a-no/">a billion in revenue</a>, but is reducing that estimate by $210-230 million.<br />
<br />
That means for fiscal 2013 (ending March 31, 2013) Take-Two expects to launch: <em>Max Payne 3</em>, <span class="ccbnTxt"><i>BioShock Infinite</i>, <i>Borderlands 2</i>, <i>Spec Ops: The Line</i>,<i> XCOM</i>,<i> XCOM: Enemy Unknown</i> and "other titles yet to be announced." </span>So, Take-Two expects us to only play Take-Two games over the next year. Understood.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/17/max-payne-3-delayed/">Max Payne 3 delayed until May, Take-Two to report a net loss for year</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Jan 2012 07:46:00 EST. <br />
We often kid about the grim future we all know is humanity's destiny, when the robots rise up and take the planet from us. We never try to think about what it's like to be them; what it's like to be in their chrome feet.<br />
<br />
A new <a href="http://www.gta4-mods.com/player/terminator-t-1-f12057">mod for <em>GTA IV</em> on the PC</a> from William Peddell brings us closer to understanding our future nemesis, replacing protagonist Niko Bellic with an eerily accurate Terminator. Peddell is quite adept at custom skins, having produced a number of mods celebrating <em>Resident Evil</em>, <em>Batman: Arkham City, Uncharted</em> and many more. His <a href="http://www.gtagaming.com/downloads/author/wapeddell">mod profile page</a> showcases hours of hard work.<br />

But in the end we're partial to his "Terminator T-1" mod, since it's such a strong teaching aid -- especially in the video above. When the robots rebel, we'll know that <em>standing directly in front of their guns</em> isn't a viable course to victory.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/12/terminator-t-1-mod-gives-us-a-taste-of-our-future-in-gta-iv/">Terminator T-1 mod gives us a taste of our future in GTA IV</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Jan 2012 04:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/max-payne-3"><em>Max Payne 3</em></a> is set in the slums and high-rolling cities of S&atilde;o Paulo, Brazil. To truly get a feel for the land and its society, Rockstar developers and researchers traveled to the heart of the city to study its law-enforcement branches, its extensive weapons collection and to track down local casting, the <a href="http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/20011/rockstar-research-the-weaponwielding-gangsters-and-special-polic.html">Rockstar newswire</a> reads. S&atilde;o Paulo has become infamous for its favelas, gang violence and illegal trafficking, perhaps because it's all set against such a lush, photogenic landscape.</div>
<br />
It appears the Rockstar team watched a few documentaries that take advantage of Brazil's dark beauty, as it's able to name-drop such titles as Favela Rising and Bus 174. So, we're sure the devs were <em>completely</em> prepared for the reality of S&atilde;o Paulo's slums.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> As many of you pointed out, <span style="text-align: left; ">Favela Rising and Bus 174 are both set in Rio de Janiero, and Brazil is home to many non-violent, wonderful people and places. Rockstar is setting a scene that scare-based media and PBS has been harping on for years, probably because shooting people in an innocent, beautiful environment just doesn't feel <em>right </em>to the developers. Or they wanted a free trip to Brazil.</span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/11/rockstar-devs-check-out-the-black-market-in-sao-paulo-for-max-pa/">Rockstar devs check out the black market in Sao Paulo for Max Payne 3 [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Jan 2012 19:00:00 EST. <br />
While we're not sure if the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/android">Android</a> version of <em>GTA 3</em> is as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/20/hijacking-the-fun-grand-theft-auto-3-on-ipad/">disappointing</a> as it is on iPad, it does have one perk over its iOS cousin: mods. Many have discovered modding the Android port is much like modding the PC game -- one can simply add files to the directory on the SD card.<br />
<br />
As a result, it's fairly easy to add custom cars -- a souped-up taxi can be seen in the video above -- and textures, granted one is familiar with modding on the PC. One <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392987&amp;page=17">XDA developer thread</a> in particular has tons of files and custom cars if you'd like to start sprucing up Rockstar's classic game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/30/new-cars-textures-modded-into-grand-theft-auto-3-on-android/">New cars, textures modded into Grand Theft Auto 3 on Android</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 30 Dec 2011 05:02:00 EST.
