Rockstar North's stealth <em>slash</em> slaughter game, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/manhunt">Manhunt</a>,</em> launches on PSN next week on May 14, available in the PS2 Classics section for $10. European PSN users will have to wait until Wednesday, when their store is updated.<br />
<br />
In the <a href="http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/49851/manhunt-coming-to-psn-next-week.html">announcement post</a>, Rockstar also says the next game up for re-release is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-warriors"><em>The Warriors</em></a>. <em>Manhunt</em> joins <em>Bully</em>, <em>Midnight Club 3</em>, <em>Red Dead Revolver</em> and various <a href="http://joystiq.search.aol.com/search?q=grand+theft+auto&amp;invocationType=wl-joystiq"><em>Grand Theft Auto</em></a> games, all available on PSN now.<br />
<br />
The PS2 Classic generated much controversy when it launched in 2003 for its gruesome murder scenarios and animations - a few examples include suffocating enemies with plastic bags, strangling them with wire and eviscerating others with table saws. In 2007, Rockstar produced a sequel in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/manhunt-2"><em>Manhunt 2</em></a>, which was banned in the UK for almost six months before <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/14/manhunt-2-uk-ban-officially-lifted/">it was cleared for launch</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/09/manhunt-goes-to-ps2-classics-on-may-14/">Manhunt goes to PS2 Classics on May 14</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 May 2013 18:00:00 EST. <em>Grand Theft Auto</em> and <em>Grand Theft Auto 2 </em>have been rated for PlayStation devices by the ESRB, implying that the two classic crime games are on the way to the PlayStation Network. Yup, if you're as surprised as we are this hadn't happened already, join us in the boat.<br />
<br />
Curiously, rumors of <em>GTA</em> and <em>GTA 2</em> coming to PSN go <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/13/rumor-classic-gta-street-fighter-alpha-coming-to-psn/">all the way back to February 2008</a>, when Official PlayStation Magazine first heard whispers. The other rumored game from that same article, <em>Street Fighter Alpha</em>, arrived in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/12/street-fighter-alpha-finally-hitting-psn-on-thursday/">August 2008</a>. GTA certainly took its time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/01/grand-theft-auto-1-and-2-rated-for-playstation-platforms/">Grand Theft Auto 1 and 2 rated for PlayStation platforms</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 May 2013 09:20:00 EST. Take-Two plans to have meeting rooms at the show, but 2K's presence isn't planned. 2K Games announced earlier this week that it would <a href="http://www.2kgames.com/blog/2k-this-spring">not have a booth on the show floor at E3</a>. That didn't necessarily mean the company wouldn't participate at all, since we've seen publishers in the past not have a booth, but hold meetings in the upstairs concourse.<br /><br />A representative for the Entertainment Software Association, which organizes the annual conference, tells us, "We can confirm that Take-Two Interactive Software is participating in E3 2013."<br /><br />"We are going to have a meeting room in the upper concourse level and we'll be doing some business meetings as we usually do," a Take-Two spokesperson tells Joystiq. "2K is not participating."<br /><br />As for Rockstar, the rebellious child of Take-Two, we're still waiting to hear official word if they plan to participate. Rockstar does not typically attend E3 and hasn't made any announcements.<br /><br />2K's scheduled projects for this year include <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/the-bureau-xcom-declassified">The Bureau: XCOM Declassified</a></em>, <em>Civilization V: Brave New World, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/09/xcom-enemy-unknown-ios-wont-have-in-app-purchasable-upgrades/">XCOM: Enemy Unknown</a></em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/09/xcom-enemy-unknown-ios-wont-have-in-app-purchasable-upgrades/"> for iOS</a>, more <em>Borderlands 2</em> content, <em>WWE 2K14 </em>and <em>NBA 2K14</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/26/2k-games-take-two-rockstar-E3-2013/">2K Games won't attend E3, Take-Two to have meeting rooms</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Apr 2013 16:00:00 EST. This morning the developer <a href="http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/47481/happy-holidays-enjoy.html">posted several screenshots</a> on the company's site for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/grand-theft-auto-5"><em>Grand Theft Auto 5</em></a> to elicit speculation.<br /><br />There's a swimming with sharks shot, along with a dog in the passenger seat of a car. Drive-by pooches confirmed?! There's also a mini submarine picture, as well as a shot featuring a commercial jet, a fighter jet and a blimp. No word yet if these are actual player-controlled vehicles for use in the game, but feel free to dream about that tonight, along with sugar plums dancing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/24/grand-theft-auto-5-sharks-subs-and-pups-be-rollin-screens/">Grand Theft Auto 5 sharks, subs and pups be rollin' screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 24 Dec 2012 13:00:00 EST. Rockstar is trying to make a case for downloading by discounting four of its top games through Xbox Live's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/games-on-demand">Games on Demand</a> service.<br /><br />For today only, you can download <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/la-noire"><em>LA Noire</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/red-dead-redemption"><em>Red Dead Redemption</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/max-payne-3"><em>Max Payne 3</em></a> and <em>Midnight Club: LA</em> for 33% off each - that comes out to $20 for <em>LA Noire</em> and <em>Red Dead Redemption</em>, $40 for <em>Max Payne 3</em> and $10 for <em>Midnight Club: LA</em>. All of the games save for <em>Max Payne 3</em> are going for more than their Games on Demand sale price on Amazon right now.<br /><br />Of course, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention three of these games are included in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/11/rockstar-games-collection-bundles-red-dead-redemption-la-noir/"><em>Rockstar Games Collection 1</em></a>. The only game not included is <em>Max Payne 3</em>, but that's fine because Max just <em>loves</em> being the black sheep of the family.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/21/games-on-demand-sale-max-payne-3-red-dead-redemption-la-noire/">Games on Demand sale: Max Payne 3, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, Midnight Club: LA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Dec 2012 13:00:00 EST. We'll make it available again as soon as possible," a statement to <a href="http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/11/15/gta-vice-city-pc-pulled-from-stores-temporarily.aspx">Game Informer</a> reads. Rockstar hasn't specifically called out which song(s) are at the heart of this dispute, but tells Game Informer this current licensing issue won't affect <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/26/grand-theft-auto-vice-city-cruising-onto-ios-android-this-fall/">the upcoming mobile port</a>.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.cinemablend.com/games/GTA-Vice-City-Longer-Steam-Due-RIAA-Copyright-Claim-49372.html">Cinema Blend</a> suggests it's Michael Jackson's "Wanna Be Startin' Something" that's the problem, which Sony Music Entertainment owns. If you've already purchased <em>Vice City</em> through Steam or your other favorite digital distributor, you should run into no problems installing and playing the game - unless you <em>do</em>, in which case you'll want to call your cousin Carl. He's real good with them computers.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/16/gta-vice-city-pc-temporarily-pulled-from-digital-distributors/">GTA Vice City PC 'temporarily' pulled from digital distributors over music licensing issue</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Nov 2012 23:59:00 EST. Besides, Rockstar isn't about to let any console tell it how to live its life.<br /><br />"Rockstar is a content company, not a hardware company," Houser says. "We use the technology we have to create content, and we try not to let ourselves get beholden to the hardware. The fact that hardware's so mature right now is exactly why we're able to go on to the next level. <em>GTA 4</em> was our first attempt at a new platform and HD visuals, so the first part of development was seriously difficult. Now we know what the hardware's capable of, so it's become a lot easier to move things along and a lot more fun, too."<br /><br />Rockstar isn't only familiar with development for the current generation, but the consoles themselves are at their peak performance, Houser says:<br /><br />"<em>GTA: San Andreas</em> came out at the peak of the PlayStation 2's cycle, and we put out a really good game thanks to that. All the best games for a console come out at the end of the life cycle, right? So now's the best timing of all."<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/14/grand-theft-auto-5s-trailer-two-ensures-you-have-one-good-day/">The second trailer</a> for <em>Grand Theft Auto 5</em> dropped today, starring the three main protagonists and a dog.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/14/why-grand-theft-auto-5-is-sticking-to-current-gen-systems/">Why Grand Theft Auto 5 is sticking to current-gen systems</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Nov 2012 17:00:00 EST. "Partly, too, it was because at that point we were deep into the work on the two DLC episodes of <em>GTA IV</em>, and we thought, well, the bits where all the stories cross over is kind of cool, so why don't we just do that in one game? So okay, let's just do multiple characters."<br /><br />The storyline of the game - and remember, GTA games have storylines when you're not just trying to jump motorcycles over buildings or create impressive piles of exploded fire trucks - follows a series of five to six "mega-heists" (the Guardian's term), and three characters who are all involved with the jobs, and with each other.<br /><br />In fact, the protagonists spend more time hanging out together than with other NPCs, Houser said. "If you're playing as Michael and you want to play a game of tennis, you can call up Franklin and ask him. You are actually getting to see the main bulk of the story and also spend time with these people off-mission - that side of it gives it a vibrancy that's a lot stronger than with [<em>Grand Theft Auto 4's</em>] Roman or anyone else."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/12/grand-theft-auto-5s-trio-inspired-by-gta-4-dlc-storyline-crosso/">Grand Theft Auto 5's trio inspired by GTA 4 DLC storyline crossover</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Nov 2012 17:00:00 EST. Washington claimed he met with the game's developers in 2003 to discuss his troubled youth and "street life." He first learned of his resemblance to the game's "CJ" character six years later, leading to the $250 million lawsuit.<br /><br />The California appeals court upheld the ruling in favor of Take-Two, in which the judge said the "plaintiff is relying entirely on CJ's physical appearance in the game, but that appearance is so generic that it necessarily includes hundreds of other black males." The lack of evidence in whether Take-Two actually used Washington's likeness, in addition to a failed test for insufficiently transformative use, led to Washington losing the case.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/03/backup-singer-loses-lawsuit-against-take-two-over-gta-san-andre/">Backup singer loses lawsuit against Take-Two over GTA: San Andreas</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 03 Nov 2012 12:00:00 EST. At the end of the day, however, the company did have a net loss of $12.5 million, which is still significantly better than the $123.3 loss from the same period last year.<br /><br />The big gun during the quarter was Borderlands 2, which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/31/borderlands-2-5-million-xcom-success/">shipped over 5 million units</a>, along with catalog sales of <em>Grand Theft Auto 4</em> and <em>Red Dead Redemption</em>. Revenue from digital distribution was up 108 percent year-over-year, with "strong digital sales" (i.e. non-retail) mentioned for new releases <em>Borderlands 2</em> and<em> XCOM: Enemy Unknown</em>.<br /><br />With <em>Grand Theft Auto 5</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/30/grand-theft-auto-5-spring-2013/">officially given a spring 2013 release window</a>, it should be noted that Take-Two reduced its "financial outlook" for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013, removing $600 million in forecasted sales. That <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/22/take-two-ends-fiscal-12-with-loss-high-13-projection-raises-e/">extra $600 million raised our eyebrows</a> when it appeared in the company's projections at the beginning of the fiscal year, as the math would only really work out if Take-Two was planning <em>GTA 5</em> before April 1, 2013. That is, obviously, no longer the case and the company has reduced its outlook to "reflect its revised assumed release schedule."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/31/take-two-revenue-up-155-during-q2-outlook-removes-600-million/">Take-Two revenue up 155% during Q2, outlook removes $600 million following GTA 5 delay</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 31 Oct 2012 10:00:00 EST. The images feature three vehicles from the upcoming open-world adventure: a road bicycle, a return of GTA classic sports car "Cheeta," and <em>a damn fighter jet</em> (seen above). Also of note, the Cheeta's license plate has a "San Andreas" wrapper - not a huge surprise <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/03/yes-grand-theft-auto-v-is-set-in-los-santos-and-will-have-multi/">given what we know about <em>GTA5 5</em>'s setting</a>, but neat nonetheless.<br /><br />Not enough to sate your thirst for more <em>GTA 5</em> news? Whether directly or indirectly, three questions in a row tried to eke out any details about the game, which appears to be part of the publisher's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/22/take-two-ends-fiscal-12-with-loss-high-13-projection-raises-e/">high revenue projections</a> but still has an official <a href="http://ir.take2games.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=86428&amp;p=irol-newsArticle&amp;ID=1698793&amp;highlight=">"TBA" release date</a>.<br /><br />"Strauss, we've heard nothing, next to nothing, on <em>GTA 5</em> development over the last couple months," said Mike Hickey of National Alliance Securities. "We've seen a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/12/steal-a-glance-at-two-grand-theft-auto-5-screens/">couple screenshots</a>. The game is believed by the street to be implied by your guidance for this fiscal year, but what believability do we have that this game is actually going to come out this year?"<br /><br />CEO Strauss Zelnick responded, "We haven't talked about a release date. So obviously we can't talk about the credibility of a release date that we haven't announced."<br /><br />Pushed further on whether the publisher is receiving consistent updates, the CEO deflected.<br /><br />"We wouldn't talk publicly about the way we communicate with our teams internally," replied Zelnick. "We are blessed to be in business with the Rockstar folks and everyone knows that I feel that way. We have the best creative teams in the business across our company."<br /><br />Though the company did announce today that "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/31/borderlands-2-third-highest-pre-ordered-game-for-take-two-behind/">consumer anticipation is phenomenal</a>" for <em>Borderlands 2</em>, it would still need to hit home runs with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/22/nba-2k13-slotted-for-october-2/">NBA 2K13</a></em>, <em>XCOM: Enemy Unknown</em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/09/bioshock-infinite-delayed/">BioShock: Infinite</a></em> to hit its forecast.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/31/take-two-investor-call-theme-wheres-grand-theft-auto-5/">Take-Two investor call theme: Where's Grand Theft Auto 5?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 31 Jul 2012 19:18:00 EST. Indeed, <em>Grand Theft Auto 3</em> is joining the no-frills lineup next Tuesday for $10.<br /><br />The news was revealed on the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/07/26/playstation-blogcast-035-the-unfinished-assassin/">latest PlayStation podcast</a> among other PSN releases for next week. Like all PS2 classics, <em>GTA3</em> isn't getting an HD update or Trophy support. Second, you'll know if you've been caught if you consistently end up in empty lobbies or matched up with games full of other cheaters. If you genuinely haven't cheated and have somehow ended up in the Cheater Pool, you can email Rockstar support at the address found on the <a href="http://support.rockstargames.com/entries/21675803-max-payne-3-cheater-pool-faq?locale=1">Cheater Pool FAQ</a>. It's unlikely, Rockstar says, since it manually reviews each Banhammer report and only takes action if there is clear evidence of cheating.<br /><br />Happy gaming to all, and to all cheaters good night.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/10/max-payne-3-cheater-pool-is-live-dont-get-stuck-in-it/">Max Payne 3 'Cheater Pool' is live, don't get stuck in it</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Jul 2012 21:30:00 EST. The "Local Justice Pack" adds some new situations into which you can throw the gruff, sad hero, including the "55th Battalion HQ" map, Imperial Palace and Departure maps for deathmatch and Payne Killer modes, a new M4 Assault Rifle, and a new S&atilde;o Paulo Police faction.<br /><br />In response to missing the original June release date for this pack, Rockstar is drinking heavily. Oh, wait, that's Max. Rockstar is discounting the DLC for its first week, to 480 Microsoft Points or $5.99; afterward, it'll go back up to 640 MSP/$7.99.<br /><br />All pre-order exclusive DLC will also be up for sale on July 3, or free for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/01/max-payne-3-dlc-plans-laid-out-grab-all-with-rockstar-pass/">Rockstar Pass</a> owners.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/27/max-payne-3-serves-up-local-justice-dlc-july-3-on-ps3-and-xbox/">Max Payne 3 serves up 'Local Justice' DLC July 3 on PS3 and Xbox, July 17 on PC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Jun 2012 12:11:00 EST. Bhatia projects <em>Grand Theft Auto V</em> will debut during the first three months of 2013 and will pull in $700 million in revenue for Take-Two Interactive with 14 million copies sold over its launch window - though Bhatia didn't say just how long he considers this launch window to be.<br /><br />This $700 million figure is close to the $775 million earned by <em>Modern Warfare 3 </em>in its first five days of launch back in November, which is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/17/activision-modern-warfare-3-sales-reach-775-million-in-five-da/">an entertainment record</a> that has yet to be bested. The aesthetic overhaul is certainly the most noticeable, though there's no understating the impact that certain gameplay modernizations have had on the experience. While fans might have a hard time processing the dramatic change in tone, it's approached with a seriousness and conviction that I respect, and frankly, have come to expect from Rockstar."</li> <li> <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/reviews/max-payne-3-review">Edge</a> (<span style="font-weight: bold;">70</span><strong>/100</strong>): "<em>Max Payne 3</em> might solve the problem of how you manage to reload when carrying more than one gun, but detailing alone can't change the fact that this is a surprisingly conservative game from Rockstar. Its absorption of cover mechanics makes Payne feel more familiar than he should, but even then his signature tricks are over a decade old. This is a game about a world-weary killer doing the only thing he knows how to, and for all its spectacular action beats there's something apt about Max's fatigue."<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/">Max Payne 3 (5/14/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022389"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3248_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022390"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022391"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3288_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022392"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3290_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022393"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3295_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></li></ul><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/14/metareview-max-payne-3/">Metareview: Max Payne 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 May 2012 18:00:00 EST. A quiet moment of remembrance, dour and dusted in snow, is soon buried beneath the sound of gunfire. This man exists to kill, and the tombstone that names his murdered wife and daughter is there to provide cover.<br /><br />The transition from emotionally tinged burial ground to functional battleground is at once touching and tasteless, presented in that kind of awkward, bittersweet combination that video games have gotten down to an art form. Can you really argue with the outcome? The cemetery perfectly recalls the birth of Max, the cynical, disheveled vigilante - and what better playground for Max, the cover-based shooter, than a plot of land filled with upright granite slabs? Rockstar can't outrun the nature of the game, no more than its wrecked anti-hero can escape his nature as problem solver via midair shooting.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/">Max Payne 3 (5/14/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022389"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3248_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022390"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022391"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3288_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022392"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3290_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/max-payne-3-5-14-12/#5022393"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/rsgmp3295_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/14/max-payne-3-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Max Payne 3 review: Nature of the beast</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/14/max-payne-3-review/">Max Payne 3 review: Nature of the beast</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 May 2012 13:15:00 EST. Take-Two is a publicly traded company, and one fewer gigantic product launch during the holiday season - arguably Take-Two's <em>only</em> holiday product launch, unless you count fall launches of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/borderlands-2"><em>Borderlands 2</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/xcom-enemy-unknown"><em>XCOM: Enemy Unknown</em></a> as "holiday" - means that shareholders will want to know what's up. That worry is reflected in Take-Two's stock price, which took a <a href="http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=TTWO">five percent hit</a> since the market opened this morning.<br /><br />But when <em>Infinite</em> got pushed out of the holiday season, it opened the slot up for another high-profile Take-Two-published title: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/grand-theft-auto-5"><em>Grand Theft Auto 5</em></a>. "In our view, the delay opens the window for <em>Grand Theft Auto V</em> to be released in October 2012," Michael Pachter of Webush Securities wrote in an email this morning, echoing a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/08/rockstar-north-employee-cv-gives-grand-theft-auto-v-an-october-l/">release window leak</a> from earlier this year.<br /><br />In his eyes, <em>Infinite</em> wasn't just delayed to make it "something even more extraordinary," as Ken Levine put it, but because the folks at Rockstar, "notified Take-Two that <em>GTA V</em> would be ready for October." He believes this resulted in Take-Two offering Irrational Games an extra few months to prepare <em>BioShock Infinite</em>. His logic? "The studio [Rockstar Games] has scheduled every prior GTA release during that month (with <em>GTA IV</em> delayed to April 2008, due to bugs in the PS3 version)."<br /><br />Furthermore, Pachter and co. speculate we could hear more about <em>GTA 5</em>'s launch date "as early as May 22" during a scheduled quarterly investor call, or perhaps in a few more weeks at E3 2012. We've yet to hear back from Irrational, Rockstar, or Take-Two on the subject.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/09/wedbush-thinks-grand-theft-auto-5-will-launch-in-october/">Wedbush thinks Grand Theft Auto 5 will launch in October</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 May 2012 14:15:00 EST. Instead, they're more reminiscent of a film classic from 2002 set in Rio de Janeiro's poorest neighborhood, <em>City of God</em>. Take a look at the new multiplayer trailer above, then compare with a trailer for the film below the break. You can purchase that track on iTunes on May 15th, along with full soundtrack on May 23.<br /><br />The soundtrack comes from Health - the band, not the state of being that comes from eating right and exercising. Health is an LA-based collective formed in 2006. "Health have created hundreds of hours of amazing music for the game's score, and distilled it into a devastatingly moody and atmospheric soundtrack album," <a href="http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/33041/max-payne-3-soundtrack-details-official-album-featuring-music-by.html/">says</a> Rockstar's soundtrack supervisor, Ivan Pavlovich. "By using a band instead of a traditional composer, we've created a soundtrack that sounds completely unique."<br /><br /><em>Max Payne 3</em> launches on May 15 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/02/max-payne-3-soundtrack-drops-on-may-23/">Max Payne 3 soundtrack drops on May 23</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 May 2012 23:59:00 EST.
