Each piece comes with a copy of LBP2 with an extremely limited edition cover slip signed by the entire Media Molecule team.

Siliconera shrewdly theorizes this will be a Move-centric release, thanks to the title and Media Molecule's development partner for the project, Supermassive (the house behind Start the Party and Tumble).

We're happy to see Sackboy branching out, but why would Media Molecule release yet another game when LittleBigPlanet 2 is already all of the games? What sense does that make?

Sackbots allow you to add a lot more movement and intelligence to characters in LBP2's levels -- you can set them up to follow Sackboy around, interact with the environment, or, as the video shows, teach them to dance.

And honestly, we're a little bit more excited about that last option. Yeah, it's nice to set up Lemmings-style puzzles or command an army of cute little blockheaded robots. But sometimes you just need backup for a dance party.

In fact, it seems to have actually kidnapped the star of LittleBigPlanet and made him bonus DLC for the PS3 version of ModNation Racers.

According to the PlayStation.Blog, early copies of the game (marked with a special sticker) will include a code that unlocks Sackboy as a playable racer. Both pre-ordered copies and first-run copies purchased at retail will feature the bonus.

Sony seems very eager to encourage pre-orders for the upcoming racer, as Sackboy is just the latest addition to an extensive pre-order bonus campaign. Has the tactic worked, or are you still on the fence? Check out a new trailer (featuring Sackboy!) after the break.

Of course, it wouldn't be an exact replica without two additional items: A DualShock 3 controller, and a little Sackboy to inhabit it.

We would have bought an armful of these bundles had Sony released them in the thick of LittleBigPlanet fever last fall. Oh, heck -- we'd buy an armful now. Just throw in a few sticker sheets, and we'll get out our checkbooks.

Save for a few of the game's beefier DLC packs, a majority of the downloadable content for LittleBigPlanet has been purely aesthetic. Not that we mind being able to dress our Sackboys up like Cole McGrath -- but we'd prefer something that makes the already rich level creation engine just a little bit richer.

Fortunately, during the Develop Conference earlier this month, Media Molecule co-founder Mark Healy announced that an upcoming piece of DLC will add "lots of exciting things that make it into more of a versatile creation tool." He didn't get any more specific than that, but added that it would make fans "very happy." Hey, if it helps our levels not look like something a six-year-old drew in Sunday school, we'll be pleased as punch.

We've had the impression for some time that Sackboy possessed the capacity for terrible violence -- and a new LBP machinima masterpiece titled LittleBigRevenge only strengthens our fears.

Produced by a Belgian amateur filmmaking crew named Seakitten Collective, LittleBigRevenge (which we've posted after the jump) shows us why one should never summon this incorrigible bastard into the physical realm -- and why one should never, ever mess with his ladyfriend. Collectibles retailer Entertainment Earth certainly has -- for the upcoming LittleBigPlanet Sackboy figures from Mezco Toyz. Turns out it's $34.99 for three doses of the cute stuff.

The set, listed as "Wave 1" (as in "more on the way!"), is slightly different from what Sony first gave us a glimpse of in February. The figures are still 4" tall with various accessories (each comes standard with a Pop-it Lasso) but the roaster has changed. It now includes plain ol' Sackboy, the pigtailed Sackgirl, "Sky," and the afro-sporting "Marvin." (Sky's spot was taken by a Chinese New Year Dragon Sackboy in the original lineup.)

It looks as if the release of the line has been pushed back as well. Sony originally indicated a spring arrival, while Entertainment Earth -- which is usually reliable regarding ship dates -- lists them for September. We'll be happy just to get them at all. We'd be happier yet if they were somehow made from recycled plastic ... sacks.

Sony is looking to extract some more money from European wallets through a new deal inked with Target Entertainment, who will now be the consumer product licensing agent for all PlayStation software IP. This means you could have a nice 6" tall Kratos watching over your cubicle whenever you go to refill that mug of coffee, or your own cuddly, huge Sackboy to snuggle up with every night while in bed. Really, the possibilities for merchandise are near endless here.

SCEE's licensing and peripherals manager Stephanie Freeman says Sony wants "consumers to have the ability to interact with our brands and characters in ways other than just on screen. We feel Target Entertainment Group has the vibrancy and experience to help us do this successfully." No word on when these products will be making their way to market, but you should be able to stock up on Helghast target dummies and Ratchet and Clank ratchet sets soon.

Update: The content will be available tomorrow, March 12th. According to the PlayStation.Blog, acquiring the various Sackboy costumes will involve buying the premium DLC and downloading a patch.

Update 2: It's not free! Sorry folks! Price should be revealed in Thursday's PSN update.

How adorable is this? It's the Prince from the 2008 Prince of Persia reboot recreated in Sackboy form. Media Molecule keeps saying that official, purchasable Sackboys are coming, but when we see stuff like this it makes the wait much harder. The two pictured above were made by craftswoman extraordinaire, Maggie Wang. Check out her website for more pictures of Sackboy Prince from various angles, along with some tips on how he was made.

Looking at these images we can't help but wish for some LittleBigPlanet Prince of Persia DLC in the future. Perhaps involving a wall-running powerup? Then again, what game wouldn't be awesome when converted to LittleBigPlanet DLC? Wonder when those Final Fantasy VII and Killzone 2 packs will finally come out ...

Sackboy is one of the most recognizable video game icons out right now. No wonder that Sony wants to capitalize on the LittleBig-love by releasing new 4" action figures this Spring. In addition to the regular 4" action figures, toy developer and manufacturer, Mezco Toyz, will also release limited-edition Sackboys throughout the year, ranging between 2″ and 18″ large.

The PlayStation.Blog also notes that official Sackboy plushes are also in the works, but more time is needed before they're officially unveiled.

In addition to tomorrow's for-pay Street Fighter outfits, Sony will be gifting LittleBigPlanet fans with the first part of a free, two-piece SackSanta costume for your SackBoys (or SackGirls). Stage one is the Santa suit; the hat and beard will be available on the PlayStation Store (again, for free) the following Thursday, December 18.

Like the milk & cookies you leave out for the real Santa, this costume will magically disappear from the PS Store come January 8. We're assuming it won't be replaced with a coal costume.

All the details for making your own denizen of LittleBigPlanet are in the latest Simply Knitting magazine, but we're guessing it's already on your coffee table, right? By the way, the instructions were created by designer Alan Dart, which the magazine describes as "the Grand Theft Auto of knitting." Adorable.

Pick up the issue for the Sackboy designs, but stay for all the beloved Simply Knitting monthly features like stories of mothers and daughters knitting together in "The Tie that Binds," Roger Estwhile's "Knitting Knews", or Sue Coulty's zany tales of adventures in motherhood, "All In Knots." SackBoy plushies have been the object of desire for LittleBigPlanet fans for a very long time now; however, such a prized possession has yet to be made commercially available -- until now, that is. Japan is getting the official SackBoy squeeze toys this month and they're already available for purchase off Play-Asia.

Currently, the online retailer carries four versions of SackBoy: Normal, Pirate, Soldier and Sunflower. They're the 4" dolls we've reported on before, and they're actually cheaper than we thought at the price of $9.90. Import them today, or just wait for those North American plushies that we know are coming.

This week's PSN update will see the addition of new SackBoy costumes for the faithful followers of LittleBigPlanet. The first is a free costume created by a contest winner, featuring a SackBoy with a TV on his head. The original submitted sketch for "Sack-In-The-Box" can be found after the break.

The premium (read: pay) LBP costumes this week deliver a SackBoy take on the saccharine world of LocoRoco. Five costumes (pictured above) will come with the $3 pack. Now we await video featuring a full-blown LocoRoco LBP level.

Who fancies a game of "will they, won't they?" After stating that image importing from your hard drive will be coming to LittleBigPlanet at Game City Media Molecule seemed to change tact and stated yesterday that there were "currently no plans" to implement such a feature. Normally that's where the issue would end, but some eagle eyed LBP fans have noticed something fishy on the Media Molecule flickr page.

The photo above (click it to see the full size version) is captioned "work in progress" and shows a new Popit menu tool. An "image import tool" which allows you to "import images from your PlayStation Hard Drive to use as stickers." The photo was uploaded yesterday, the same day Media Molecule denied having any plans for such a feature.

Sure, it could be a Media Molecule exclusive tool and not for external distribution, but then why post a photo of it when they know we're expecting the feature to be patched in? Only time will tell what exactly is going on. Until then, keep your PlayStation Eyes handy, just in case. Also, did you notice that Sackboy in the bottom right hand corner? So did we. We want it.

It's been a rocky launch into cyberspace, hasn't it? Sony and Media Molecule are offering their apologies to those of us along for the ride this week and will be handing out some free (and not-so-free) LittleBigPlanet DLC in the coming weeks. Next Thursday, November 6th, we can finally strap on the launch spacesuit and hopefully settle into a smooth ride. In addition, we'll get a Halloween mask just in time for ... Thanksgiving. But act fast! Both "fan appreciation gifts" will be taken away and locked in an offline database during the November 20th PSN update. Thankfully, free "community costumes" will always be available.

Sony and Media Molecule have also laid out their nickel and dime strategy, teasing several for-pay SackBoy costumes and "premium" for-pay SackBoy costumes (like these two) -- also available in neatly bundled sets. On top of that there will be "RARE" costumes, at times, for the ominous price of "$?.??." Time to stock up.

Almost two years ago, during my vigil outside the Sony Wonder Technology Lab in New York City, I awaited the chance to buy a PS3. At that time, I wasn't thinking about a game like LittleBigPlanet. In terms of future titles, my friends and I were anticipating the next Final Fantasy, the next Gran Turismo or the next Tekken. None of us knew that a game like LBP was poised to become what Sony expects to be the biggest PS3 game ever. Naturally one would want to know; does it live up to the hype?

Media Molecule switched on the LittleBigPlanet servers today and just like that ... went right back to work on the sequel. The team has already begun development of a follow-up title, according to BBC, and is looking into broadening the franchise -- we're talking cartoons, comics, action figures, the works. As Mr. Carter foretold: Can't stop the blows -- *KABOOM* -- the SackBoy in the room!

As cute as Old Sack and Sackiroth may be in digital form (despite being gun-toting, sword-wielding mass murderers), they're nothing in comparison to their real life counterparts. These costumed SackBoy plush dolls appeared during the public days in the LittleBigPlanet section of the Sony booth. Media Molecule continues to tease us with physical SackBoys that we just can't have.

On nearby screens a trailer showed the two newest members of the LittleBigPlanet family running and jumping through various levels of the game. Adorable and ecstatic? Yes, but also ruthless Ninja killers. Check some of it out in the video after the break.

As if yesterday's announcement of an entire God of War level theme for LittleBigPlanet wasn't enough to entice you to snap up the game day one, today Sony delivered the icing astronaut on the cake.

Anyone who plays Media Molecule's platforming concoction during its first week of release will be able to download a space suit costume for SackBoy, free of charge, from within the game. Sony says the suit will be a way for players to proclaim, "I was there for Launch!" Get it - launch? Like blast-off. Like what astronauts do. Hence, a space suit. Clever, eh?

Media Molecule boss Mark Healey admits that LittleBigPlanet's controls can be frustrating. "The Z [axis] movement is an incredibly hard thing for us to get right. There's times when it annoys me actually," Healey told Eurogamer, echoing sentiments shared by other PlayStation 3 developers that have struggled to put games in motion. [Update: Oops! Healey's actually talking about moving between the foreground and background planes (thanks Colin!) -- the motion controls still are wonky though ... ]

Media Molecule seems confident a software patch could do the trick. "There's definitely room for improvement and we've got the channel to be able to do that as well. I'd really love to be able to do backflips and all kinds of things with my SackBoy, and there's no reason why we can't add that and refine that." LittleTombRaider? NinjaBigGaiden? Yes please.

We had previously learned that a Kratos SackBoy would be available with a GameStop pre-order, but what we didn't know was all the extras that would also be included with the reservation. The GameStop website and a new commercial (found after the break) reveal the pre-order will also include Minotaur and Medusa costumes, along with stickers and level pack.

The details on getting the redemption code vary between online and in-store reservation, with online codes being sent out a week before the game ships and store codes available at time of reservation -- while supplies last (call ahead). No word yet if the Heavenly Sword Best Buy exclusive Nariko SackGirl will come with levels, extra characters and a dose of a "twing-twang."

You had to know this sort of thing was coming: As you can see right after the break, Super Mario Bros.' World 1-1 has been replicated in the make-your-own-fun platformer, LittleBigPlanet. It's not exact (in fact, we wouldn't be surprised to see players trying to immediately trump it) but it's still adorable.

What's surprising, though, is that it appears to lose a bit in the fun department during translation. Of course, maybe this is more about the actual achievement. We should really stop looking a gift Sackboy in the mouth.

And not like how we have a "job" in the industry. This one might actually bring joy into the lives of others! "I think this game can definitely help people get jobs in the industry," Media Molecule's co-founder and LittleBigPlanet's art director, Kareem Ettouney, recently told VentureBeat."Imagine a guy going into a job with five levels of LittleBigPlanet and you get to play his creation."

Having been "blown away" by the varied creations that flooded out of Parsons New School of Design earlier this week, Ettouney explained that LittleBigPlanet's shared level building could provide a way for upcoming game designers to become known and appreciated -- or feared, in our case. "People know his levels and know his name," he said, suggesting that aspiring designers would walk into a job interview, already known. "We hope LittleBigPlanet plays a part in getting new game developers jobs and also making them stars."

You hear that, Dad? This guy says we can get a job by playing a game! And you said it was just a waste of time.

Now, it's official: LittleBigPlanet will launch in North America on October 21. During launch week, those who purchase the game will be able to download a free "limited edition Spacesuit costume" from the PSN store (picture after the break).

Sony also confirmed other regional dates: Europe, Australia & New Zealand Oct. 22; UK & Ireland Oct. 24 and Japan Oct. 30. Meanwhile, the 80GB LBP PS3 bundle will release Oct. 29 in Europe and Oct. 31 in the UK and Ireland. And those are LittleBigPlanet's OfficialReleasePlans.
