This year, Square Enix is remaking <em>SaGa 3: The Ruler of Space and Time</em> (our <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_Legend_III">Final Fantasy Legend 3</a></em>), though there isn't a particular occasion for it.<br />
<br />
Early Famitsu scans show the same kind of slightly cutesy visual makeover given to SaGa 2. Siliconera reports that it'll retain the freaky class system from the original, in which characters can change classes immediately either by equipping cyborg parts from downed enemies -- or eating meat made of defeated monsters.<br />
<br />
Following the usual pattern for these Famitsu leaks, we expect to learn more about <em>SaGa 3: The Ruler of Space and Time - Shadow or Light</em> later this week.<br type="_moz" /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/01/final-fantasy-legend-3-remake-on-the-way-to-ds/">Final Fantasy Legend 3 remake on the way to DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Sep 2010 16:30:00 EST. The countdown has elapsed, revealing that <em>no,</em> it's not the <em>Final Fantasy VII</em> remake, nor is it something remotely as exciting, though <em>Lord of Vermilion II </em>is at least <em>interesting</em> in its own right.<br /><br /><em>Lord of Vermilion II</em> is the sequel to Square Enix's popular arcade <a href="http://www.square-enix.co.jp/lov/">collectible card game</a>, which uses real trading cards to summon monsters, allies, and such in-game. The sequel is particularly noteworthy because, as the new site reveals, it includes characters from <em>Final Fantasy IV</em>,<em> Romancing SaGa II</em>, and even creatures from <em>Magic: The Gathering</em>.<br /><br />Of course, since we don't really have card RPGs <em>or</em> arcades in North America, the chances of playing this ourselves are slim. Although, as Siliconera noted, Square Enix trademarked <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/05/22/is-lord-of-arcana-a-home-version-of-lord-of-vermillion/">Lord of Arcana</a> in the US. So, it's possible.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/07/square-enix-countdown-reveals-final-fantasy-saga-magic-the-gathe/">Square Enix countdown reveals Final Fantasy/SaGa/Magic the Gathering crossover card RPG</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 07 Aug 2009 17:30:00 EST. The company revealed the limited-edition <em>SaGa</em> 20th anniversary system, which will be sold with a copy of <em>SaGa 2</em> and will release on the same September 17 date as the standalone version.<br /><br />The system features the <em>SaGa</em> logo and a circular logo with the title of each game in the series. It looks so <em>refreshingly</em> different from the usual limited-edition system. It remains as <em>expensive</em> as usual: 24,880 yen ($262).<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/07/22/heres-the-limited-edition-saga-dsi/">Siliconera</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/23/limited-saga-2-dsi-celebrates-20-years-of-saga-looks-great/">Limited SaGa 2 DSi celebrates 20 years of SaGa, looks great</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Jul 2009 18:15:00 EST. The best RPGs from both Square and Enix are the ones made pre-merger (with the possible exception of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/28/ds-fanboy-review-the-world-ends-with-you/"><em>The World Ends with You</em></a>) -- we all know it, and so does Square Enix. That's why they've been loading up the DS with ports and remakes of their back catalogue. The strategy has paid off: the games have been well-received by critics <em>and</em> audiences alike, with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/08/dragon-quest-v-handed-over-to-europe-in-february/"><em>Dragon Quest V</em></a> one of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/31/nintendo-mostly-owned-japan-in-2008/">top ten best-selling games</a> in Japan last year. <br /><br />The next old game to be made new is <em>SaGa 2</em>, known in the US as <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_Legend_II">Final Fantasy Legend II</a>.</em> This game is from <em>before</em> the <em>SaGa</em> series became terrible! The cel-shaded graphics and new art in the remake look quite nice, so we're expecting this Game Boy remake to be another winner for SE. We're happy to see the return of a Game Boy classic -- Game Boy remakes seem like naturals for the DS, but don't happen as often as we'd expect. Check out tiny screenshots in the full scan at the link.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/14/final-fantasy-legend-2-next-from-square-enixs-magical-remake-ma/">Final Fantasy Legend 2 next from Square Enix's magical remake machine</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Jan 2009 14:00:00 EST. <em>Command &amp; Conquer: The First Decade</em>, EA's comprehensive celebration of all things <em>C&amp;C</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/11/04/command-amp-conquer-packaging-12-games-in-one-box-set/">packed a lot of value into one box set</a>, offering all 12 games and expansions spanning the series' ten-year existence. The compilation seemed to be all a <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/commandandconquer/">C&amp;C</a> </em>fan could ask for, though not according to EA, as the company has strangely announced plans to revisit the set <em>less than</em> two years later with <em>Command &amp; Conquer Saga</em>, adding this year's <em>Command &amp; Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars</em> on top of everything else included in <em>The First Decade</em>.<br /><br />But why stop there? At $50, <em>Saga </em>will admittedly include a lot for players' hard earned credits, but we have to wonder if subsequent <em>C&amp;C</em> games will be likewise bundled into new, <em>even more comprehensive</em> packages shortly after their solo debut. With <em>Tiberium Wars</em> set to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/14/command-and-conquer-3-expanding-with-kanes-wrath/">suffer <em>Kane's Wrath</em></a> in early 2008, we fully expect yet another collection to follow in short order. Mark your calendars for <em>Command &amp; Conquer: The Whole Enchilada</em> for release in time for the 2009 holiday rush.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/02/command-and-conquer-saga-the-most-complete-collection-since-the-l/">Command &amp; Conquer Saga: the most complete collection since the last one</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Oct 2007 19:13:00 EST. <div align="left">Another Western developer has signed on to make Wii games-- hopefully they can get the funding to make some original ones. <a href="http://www.wayforward.com//index.php?option=com_frontpage&amp;Itemid=1">WayForward</a> mostly makes licensed stuff these days, of undetermined quality (we haven't had a chance to test GBA <em>Unfabulous</em>), but they are also responsible for the excellent Game Boy Color platformer <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shantae"><em>Shantae</em></a> and the clever GBA shooter <em>Sigma Star Saga.</em> Also <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ping_Pals">Ping Pals</a>,</em> but let's not talk about that.<br /></div>
