Available in May, the not-yet-priced device comes pre-installed with the April 6 Dashboard update for those who shun the connectivity of Xbox Live.

In a conversation with Joystiq, Hryb informed us that all data will be transferable to the USB device, except for installed games -- users will need to re-install those directly to the USB device once more. He assured us, however, that, "If you've got a 16GB and you only want to use 8, you can use the UI and throttle it back." Further, he reiterated to Joystiq that while this branded device is certainly one option, other Flash drives (including those larger than 16GB) will work in the same capacity.

Refuting the claim that the device will ship with on-board Flash Storage, the blog suggests that it will make use of the Memory Stick HG-Micro format announced at CES, although it's not clear from the wording if that "expanded" version of the current Memory Stick Micro (pictured) is the exact format or just an example.

"Think something like the Memory Stick HG-Micro," Game On's Matt Peckham said, "with a 60MB/s transfer rate, approximately 40MB/s faster than original Memory Stick Duo." Tiny memory cards would be great -- if this news turns out to be real. It contradicts what we'd already heard about the system, and we don't know who's got the facts straight. For that matter, we don't really know if there are any facts involved. We're talking rumors about rumors.

We don't want to ruin the surprise, but we didn't end up winning SanDisk's Rock Band 2 Battle of the Bloggers. But Team Joystiq, comprised of Joystiqers Kevin Kelly and Justin McElroy, former Joystiqer Kyle Orland and GameDaily's Robin Yang. Our band was named, of course, AOL/Time Warner Inc. Presents Robin and the Stiqers.

Yes, we came in second, but it's actually good news for you, as we'll be giving away our consolation prize full of SanDisk goodies. We're not saying that the applause meter used to hand our victory to PC Magazine was rigged, but at least half of our band have opened for The Who. SanDisk's new 2GB Rock Band 2 SD card is sure to nab some confused gamers and parents when it comes out this spring. It's got the Rock Band 2 logo on it, you see, and that means it works with Rock Band 2. Also, it's white, so you can tell it's a Wii accessory! And it's only about twice as much as you could pay for a 2GB SD card from reputable brands like ... SanDisk!

Compared to some other Wii accessories, this one's not so bad. It actually is a working SD card that is just as usable as any other for Rock Band 2, copying VC and WiiWare games, and saving photos and stuff. It's just that you lose a lot of money when you buy an SD card from the video game aisle -- like, for example, SanDisk's Gaming SD card --instead of the camera accessories aisle.

I personally use a 4GB Memory Stick, and I find it's ridiculously huge. It's much more storage than I could possibly ever need ... and that's a good feeling. Sure, there's an 8GB stick coming down the line, but you certainly won't get such a sweet deal for quite some time. FRYS.com has a 4GB SanDisk card for only $70, after mail-in rebate. Yes, the website lists the card as $120, but once you add it to your cart, you will see the price magically change.

Sony and SanDisk just revealed a new extension of Sony's popular proprietary flash media. The PRO-HG series is "theoretically capable" of sizes up to 32GB, with write speeds of up to 60MB/sec. PSP owners can celebrate that HG line is backwards compatible with the regular PRO series of cards, meaning you'll be able to buy an HG card and use it in your PSP. You won't get the same speed advantage, but you will be able to use the card's ridiculous amount of storage.

Even thinking up ways to fill a 32GB card is mind-boggling for me. Hopefully, we'll see more when CES comes around next month.

All you have to do is buy the Memory Stick, fill out the form and mail it in. Not too hard, eh?

There's a one-rebate limit here so don't get any funny ideas of buying tons of these and unloading them on ebay.

In a move that can only be referred to as a not-so-small act of "screwing Sony's pooch", Sandisk announced that they too will be releasing their own 4GB Memory Stick Duo Pro. The proclaimation was made a day after Sony officially announced their launch of a similar product. Naturally, Sandisk--now proudly bearing the crafty underdog image they've come to relish in the flash memory arena--mentioned that they will be selling their 4GB Duo Pros in March for $239.99; two months earlier and ten dollars cheaper than Sony's.

This news doesn't help Sony's case as it is, especially when you consider GameSpot's compelling head-to-head comparison of Sandisk and Sony. (Here's a hint: Sandisk won.)

But $250 is still $250, no matter how you look at it. This still won't mean squat to the thousands out there whose only option of earning cash is through saving allowance and birthday money, but for the rest of the populace who either have A.) parents who spoil them rotten, B.) full-time jobs, or C.) the inherent ability to survive for months on nothing but Ramen, this meager but significant means to save a whole tenner is a pretty darned convincing argument.

It's stories like this that really show that we here at PSP Fanboy will just about cover anything related to the PSP. PSP Hacks did a quickie read-and-write test on a Sandisk 2GB Memory Stick Pro and report that while its read speed was relatively the same as on the 1GB, the write speed is about a meg slower per second. But do we care? Heck yeah!

[UPDATE:] On rare occasion, we here at PSP Fanboy get so excited about news that we sometimes overlook important bits of info. Okay, hopefully that sounded convincing, but we're going to make up for it anyway. You may not be able to use the Sandisk 2GB Memory Stick Pro in your PSP (which only uses Memory Stick Pro Duos), but with a little bit of ingenuity and this guide you can still make use of whatever old and decrepit Memory Sticks you may still have lying around.
