If you're anything like us, you're spending today avoiding the family that only comes around once or twice a year and hanging out with the ol' Xbox 360 (preferably with air conditioning as well). And though we have tons of games from the unusually busy first half of this year to still play catch up with, who are we to turn down <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-us/live/marketplace/dealoftheweek/">this week's Xbox Live Arcade deals</a>? Out of the four titles -- <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mega-man-10">Mega Man 10</a></em>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/scrap-metal">Scrap Metal</a></em>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/death-by-cube">Death By Cube</a></em>, and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/after-burner-climax">After Burner Climax</a></em> -- all but one are half off, and even that one (<em>Scrap Metal</em>) is dropped in price by a third. <br />
<br />
So what're you waiting for? It's not like you'd be silly enough to spend today actually <em>outside</em>. There's sun out there! Gross!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/05/xbox-live-deals-of-the-week-mega-man-10-scrap-metal-death-by/">Xbox Live Deals of the Week: Mega Man 10, Scrap Metal, Death By Cube, and After Burner Climax</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 05 Jul 2010 19:14:00 EST. Your usual host is off gallivanting around San Francisco at GDC right now, so you'll have to make do with me for the latest <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/xbla-in-brief">XBLA in Brief</a> episode. Today, we take a look at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/scrap-metal"><em>Scrap Metal</em></a>, a title that instantly recalls the simple fun of the SNES classic <em>Rock N' Roll Racing</em>. <br />
<br />
With a hefty price tag of 1200<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($15), <em>Scrap Metal </em>better have a lot to offer, right? Well, there's variety, there's some tight gameplay and there's certainly lots of rocking, rolling <em>and</em> racing. In short: it's not a bad game at all! Check it out for yourself in the video above.<br />

Though we already know the bulk of the March release schedule for new content on the Xbox Live Marketplace, Major Nelson's blog recently laid out how the rest of the month will play out. Tomorrow, we'll get our hands on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/scrap-metal"><em>Scrap Metal</em></a> for 1200<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($15), next Wednesday will see the release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/perfect-dark"><em>Perfect Dark</em></a> for 800<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($10), and on March 24, we'll get our hands on the (somewhat) free <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/game-room">Game Room</a> hub. Oh, and the Games on Demand service got <em>a bit</em> crazier today with the release of <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2010/03/09/condemned-to-games-on-demand/"><em>Condemned: Criminal Origins</em></a> for $19.99.<br />
<br />
If you're an insatiable value-hound, you should turn your attention to the upcoming Deals of the Weeks: The original <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fable"><em>Fable</em></a> will have its price reduced to 800<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($10) from 1200<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($15) during the week of March 15. All of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fallout-3"><em>Fallout 3</em></a>'s add-on packs, including <em>Operation: Anchorage</em>, <em>The Pitt</em>, <em>Broken Steel</em>, <em>Point Lookout</em> and <em>Mothership Zeta</em>, will be offered at half price (400<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" />, or $5) during the week of March 22. For the rest of the schedule, including Avatar outfits and add-on packs, check out the list after the jump.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/09/xbox-live-marketplace-release-schedule-for-march-revealed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Xbox Live Marketplace release schedule for March</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/09/xbox-live-marketplace-release-schedule-for-march-revealed/">Xbox Live Marketplace release schedule for March</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Mar 2010 16:30:00 EST. Slick Entertainment's top-down racer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/scrap-metal"><em>Scrap Metal</em></a> continues Microsoft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/16/xbox-live-arcade-block-party-games-game-room-dated/">Xbox Live Arcade Block Party</a> promotion this week, <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2010/03/08/this-week-on-arcade-scrap-metal.aspx">Major Nelson</a> reports. It'll be available this Wednesday for 1200<span class="album_title"><img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> and almost begs comparison to </span><span class="album_title">classic racer-shooter hybrid, <em>Rock N' Roll Racing</em> -- in that, both games have rock and roll and racing. And guns ... to be used during the rocking and rolling and racing. It's like a fruit salad of slaughter and sweet licks, we guess.<br />

Microsoft has announced <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/events/blockparty/offer.htm">more details</a> about its Xbox Live Arcade "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/block-party">Block Party</a>," which is ... right around the corner. Next month's lead-up to the launch of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-game-room">Xbox Game Room</a> will see a promotion similar to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/microsoft-will-give-you-10-for-spending-70-on-xbox-live/">the one offered</a> during last year's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/summer-of-arcade">Summer of Arcade</a>, <em>and then some</em>. <br />
<br />
For Xbox Live Silver members that purchase all three Block Party titles released next month -- <em>Toy Soldiers</em>, <em>Perfect Dark</em> and <em>Scrap Metal </em>-- and then download the free Game Room "client," Microsoft will credit your account 400<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($5). So, 3200<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($40) spent on the participating XBLA titles will get you back five bucks. If you're a Gold member, though, the deal gets a little sweeter: Purchase the three titles, download Game Room, and you'll get the 400<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> refund <em>and </em>a free month of Xbox Live Gold service (worth $4 and change if you're an annual subscriber) credited to your account.<br />

March is going to be a <em>pretty</em> intense month for XBLA releases. So intense, in fact, that it's all being bundled under one promotional moniker: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/block-party">Block Party</a>. Microsoft recently <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/news-features/news/house_party_160210.htm">announced specific dates and prices</a> for each of the games therein, and boy oh boy, has its saved the best for ... um, <em>next-to-last</em>.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/11/perfect-dark-game-room-scrap-metal-toy-soldiers-part-of/">We already knew</a> March 3 would see the release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/toy-soldiers"><em>Toy Soldiers</em></a> for 1200<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($15). On March 10, we'll get our hands on Slick Entertainment's brutal racer, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/scrap-metal"><em>Scrap Metal</em></a>, for 1200<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($15). On March 17, we'll be stocking up on supplies, boarding up the doors and windows, and enjoying <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/perfect-dark"><em>Perfect Dark</em></a>, available for 800<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($10). Things will come to a crescendo on March 24, when the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/game-room">Game Room</a> hub will be released at no charge. The platform's games will run you 400<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($5) for a PC and 360-friendly version, 240<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($3) for just the 360 version, or 40<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($.50) for a single play.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/16/xbox-live-arcade-block-party-games-game-room-dated/">Xbox Live Arcade Block Party games, Game Room dated</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Feb 2010 17:30:00 EST. A press release from Microsoft has revealed the pricing of all games offered in the upcoming March <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XBLA-Block-Party/">XBLA Block Party</a> promotion. According to the press release the pricing for each title will be:<br />

Thanks to the Summer of Arcade, we've been conditioned to compulsively check Xbox Live Arcade during the hottest months of the year. But it would seem that March is the new summer, since that month now plays host to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbla-block-party">XBLA Block Party</a> announced during Microsoft's X10 event today.<br />
<br />
So, what do you have to look forward to? Well, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/toy-soldiers"><em>Toy Soldiers</em></a> kicks things off on March 3. If that doesn't grab you, don't worry, it'll be followed throughout the month by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/scrap-metal"><em>Scrap Metal</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/perfect-dark"><em>Perfect Dark</em></a> and classics hub <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/game-room">Game Room</a>. Also, if it's anything like every block party we've ever been to, cocktail weenies will also be served. So that's something.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/11/perfect-dark-game-room-scrap-metal-toy-soldiers-part-of/">X10: Perfect Dark, Game Room, Scrap Metal, Toy Soldiers part of XBLA Block Party this March</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Feb 2010 17:06:00 EST. Over the course of this year's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ces-2010">CES</a>, it was easy to get swept up in the fervor around 3D technology. Not Microsoft's Xbox team lead Aaron Greenberg though -- in speaking with <a href="http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/701824/Microsoft-Supporting-3D-Games-But-Unsure-Of-How-Big-Theyll-Become-.html">G4TV</a>, Greenberg said he thinks "there's a lot of challenges about 3D in the living room." To Greenberg, it's not a question of technology (or lack thereof) that's holding back 3D, it's the home environment. "I don't know about you, but when I play games or watch TV, I've got my phone, I've got all kinds of things going on. I get up, I get down, I'm looking outside at the weather and it's ... I'm not in a dark theater, wearing glasses, staring at a screen. I think it's just a different environment."<br />
<br />
This isn't to say Microsoft isn't <em>flexible</em> when it comes to consumer demand -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/27/microsoft-dropping-hdmi-cable-gives-xbox-360-consumers-flexibi/">quite the contrary!</a> "As consumer interest for 3D grows, we'll grow with it," Greenberg admitted. "I think right now we're unsure what level of interest there is from consumers to really want a 3D experience in the living room."<br />
<br />
Currently, only a handful of games ( <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/avatar">Avatar</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/invincible-tiger">Invicible Tiger</a>, </em>and upcoming XBLA racer <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/scrap-metal">Scrap Metal</a></em>, to name a few) support 3D on Microsoft's console. "If it becomes really important and people want to do more with it, we're absolutely happy to support it," Greenberg assured. Of course, with plenty of resources currently invested in the development and launch of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/project-natal">Project Natal</a> and its motion-based technology, Microsoft certainly has incentive to keep interest in 3D <em>at arm's length.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/13/xboxs-greenberg-questions-demand-for-at-home-3d/">Xbox's Greenberg questions demand for at-home 3D</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Jan 2010 14:27:00 EST. First <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/28/n-co-dev-slick-entertainment-announces-xbla-racer-scrap-metal/">revealed back in August</a> with a trailer and a handful of screenshots from developer Slick Entertainment (the folks behind the XBLA port of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/n+">N+</a></em>, a game that we hold dear to our hearts), we now know that the title will be hitting Microsoft's digital distribution platform sometime in "Spring 2010." While we anxiously await its arrival, we'll be furiously practicing with <em>Rock n' Roll Racing</em> and <em>Super Off-Road</em> -- two games that <em>Scrap Metal</em> clearly draws inspiration from. <br />

That's why we'll be watching the developer's new game, <a href="http://www.slickentertainment.com/our-games/scrap-metal/"><em>Scrap Metal</em></a>, so closely! <em>Scrap Metal </em>for Xbox Live Arcade is a top-down racing game reminiscent of <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Off_Road">Super Off Road</a> </em>or <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_N'_Roll_Racing">Rock 'n Roll Racing</a>,</em> except, of course, with a modern physics engine.<br /><br /><em>Scrap Metal</em> features combat racing against not only your friends in local and online multiplayer, but "track bosses," plus the game includes various missions, as well. It'll be shown off at PAX -- possibly in <a href="http://www.slickentertainment.com/scrapmetal/anaglyph-rendering-needs-3d-glasses/">3-D</a>! -- and is expected out on XBLA sometime next year.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/scrap-metal-xbla/">Scrap Metal (XBLA)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/scrap-metal-xbla/#2702612"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/02/scrapmetal_scrn_07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/scrap-metal-xbla/#2702611"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/02/scrapmetal_scrn_06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/scrap-metal-xbla/#2702610"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/02/scrapmetal_scrn_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/scrap-metal-xbla/#2702609"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/02/scrapmetal_scrn_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/scrap-metal-xbla/#2241473"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/scrapmetal082809_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Via <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/60231">Shacknews</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/28/n-co-dev-slick-entertainment-announces-xbla-racer-scrap-metal/">N+ co-dev Slick Entertainment announces XBLA racer 'Scrap Metal'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Aug 2009 13:25:00 EST.
