You know, the DS Lite is a pretty affordable handheld, but it's slick design and glossy finish makes us so protective of our own. In fact, we'd say we're too protective. We only clean our screens with a damp 2-ply toilet paper. The extra ply is for safety.

How do you keep your precious looking pristine? Do you use screen protectors? Have a heavy-duty case? Or do you simply not care, relegating your handheld to a lint-filled back pocket in your pair of jeans?

Available in Japan starting July 31st, the new DS Lite set features a stylus, a card case (which holds 4 carts), a hard cover, a system pouch, an LCD cleaner with a case, and a pair of screen protectors, almost all of them painted black and pink, decorated with hearts and ornate accents. Each item is sold separately, with prices at import shop Play Asia ranging from $6.90 to $14.90.

Interestingly, Keys Factory has set up an official site just for this specific line, offering up a slick Flash presentation for the products, wallpaper downloads, and even a sliding tile puzzle mini-game. The company must have high hopes for this somber set!

Q: Do you guys have a preference for which DS Lite screen protectors to use? I've heard from people that the Hori branded ones make the screen less responsive which is something I don't want for my Elite Beat Agent sessions. So I'm basically looking for DS screen protectors that manages to retain much of the sensitivity of the touch screens, any suggestions?

Daiso is a dollar-store-style retailer who sells extremely cheap goods under their own brands. You can get sushi-making supplies, toys, stationery, media storage, and beautiful Japanese bowls for, like, a buck each. If you happen to be near one of the locations (there are 9 in the U.S.; we visited the one in Seattle) it's definitely worth a quick browse. Especially now that the company has started selling DS accessories!

We can't really predict what will be available in which store, but there's no reason to believe that these Daiso-branded silicone DS covers and screen covers won't be available in the majority of their locations. We're a little uncertain about the screen covers, but at 315 yen ($3) it's not much of a gamble. As far as the DS covers go, a silicone cover is a silicone cover, and Daiso's is less than $2.
