Luckily for us, Telltale has created a new web show, Playing Dead, in which developers and designers talk about the tone and progress of the game, instead of taking that time to actually make it.

Don't get us wrong, we love hearing details about a game based on one of our favorite comic series in recent memory, but we won't be responsible for our actions if we don't see a gameplay video soon. We might write letters.

Playing Dead launches alongside a new website for Telltale's The Walking Dead, and the first episode is watchable above. In it, lead designers Jake Rodkin and Sean Vanaman discuss the timeline of their Walking Dead, which runs parallel to the beginning of Rick's canonical story, and the authentic approach they're taking to original writer Robert Kirkman's lore.

Rodkin and Vanaman reveal that players will interact with established characters such as Glenn and Hershel, and the video offers some in-game screenshots, one featuring a woman that could be Lori. We have provided the screens below for closer inspection.

Choices players make, such as saving a character's life, will carry through the month-to-month episodes, Rodkin and Vanaman say, affecting later decisions and gameplay options. Vanaman notes that the game is five episodes, spread over five months.

Supplementing all the new Walking Dead info, The Book of Eli writer Gary Whitta announced today that he is working with Telltale on their adaptation.

Gallery: The Walking Dead (Playing Dead)

The Walking Dead gets new life with dev webseries, Playing Dead originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 15 Feb 2012 16:00:00 EST. Such is the new preview provided by Game Informer, describing the turn-based steps and tactical placement of a three-person squad assaulting a team of Mutons, told through in-game screens.

The piece outs a perk for the sniper, who earns "Damn Good Ground" after grappling to the top of the gas-station canopy, and the "Run & Gun" ability for the Assault soldier, which allows her to run across the diner's roof and still open fire at the end of her turn. Firaxis has yet to release video footage of this fall's XCOM game, but if you scroll really fast through these pictures, it's almost like a stop-motion movie. Almost.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown shares its gas-station strategy originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 26 Jan 2012 15:10:00 EST.
Rockstar's PlayStation 3 exclusive, Agent, remains a mystery. The game has yet to be shown off by the GTA developer since its first reveal in 2009, but a concept artist's portfolio, which was recently discovered by GameSpot, seems to show off the game's first visuals.

Former concept artist Leigh Donoghue outed the images on his personal website, which have since been removed. Donoghue is currently employed as an architecture visualization specialist (a concept artist for reality, if you will), though he presumably drew up the concept art for Agent at Rockstar North during his employment there from April 2005 to November 2009 -- an employment which ended just months after Agent's E3 reveal that year. We've reached out to Rockstar and Take-Two for comment, but the fact that the images have been removed, not to mention the fact that Donoghue drew concept art for a variety of other Rockstar projects while employed there, lend plenty of credence to their validity.

Otherwise, the most recent news from Take-Two/Rockstar about Agent is that it's "still in development," alongside the rarely seen Max Payne 3. Perhaps the Agent and Mr. Payne are cavorting around South America together?
Steam has added a screenshot-sharing feature to its service, detailed over on the official blog. In any Steam game with the Steam overlay running, you can hit a hotkey (default F12) to snap a screenshot, and then save and publish them off to your Steam Community profile, or save them on social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

Once taken, you can access "Screenshots" under the "View" menu in Steam, and the app even lets you access them directly on your hard drive via a "Show on Disk" button. It's a very groovy way to integrate something that not all games make clear. Now, how long until we can capture video like this?
Steam adds Screenshot Manager, allows taking and sharing screenshots originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 24 Feb 2011 22:00:00 EST. Listen, FEAR 3 protagonist Point Man: we know that you're craving Funyuns more than you've ever craved anything in your life. We're sure that, two years ago, you were certain that you'd be spending Christmas morning 2010 deep, deep within the catacombs of Diablo 3. Well, sadly, you'll have to spend another holiday season sans-Diablo -- but you can try viewing the screenshots below to tide you over for another year.
Continue reading Diablo 3 screens remind you of your Diablo-less Christmas

Diablo 3 screens remind you of your Diablo-less Christmas originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 22 Dec 2010 15:00:00 EST. We still haven't been told the names of the two robots cooperatively making their way through an Aperture Science facility in Portal 2, but that doesn't matter -- we'll name them Red and Blue. In the screenshots below, released today by Valve, you can see our dashing nonhuman heroes hitting switches, diving into portals and just plain oozing personality.

In fact, even without seeing them move, we can already tell all sorts of things about how they act together. Red seems a little more timid and reserved, while Blue appears to be a go-getter who gets things done. Then again, look at that swan dive Red's pulling off. That's a thing of beauty right there. Curse you, Valve! Before you and the many thousands of other yous gets a chance to go hands-on with Killzone 3 this weekend at PAX Prime, Famitsu has a smattering of new images to hungrily dig through for new information. One thing solidly confirmed by these shots? Dusters. Hooded dusters, no less!

And hey, if you ask us, there's a severe underuse of dusters in the world of video games. Unfortunately for the gentleman above, he seems to have been socked in the face several moments before the image was taken, so his duster is fluttering through the air along with his torso. Hopefully you'll fare better this weekend at PAX!
Killzone 3 screenshots feature hoodies, pummeling originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 02 Sep 2010 19:40:00 EST. You guys already know the drill: 5TH Cell has released a new batch of screenshots for Super Scribblenauts, one which follows the format of all the developer's previous asset blasts for the series. That is to say:

There's a lovely, illustrated desktop background, followed by:

A handful of clever solutions to a few in-game puzzles, which leads into:

A couple of screens showing the puzzle creation tools, and finally:

A screen showing that, yes, the game is capable of discerning between cerulean, sunlit, cow-like, centaurian, tricolor and cotton elementals. This screen is commonly referred to as "5TH Cell's really just showing off now."

Hey -- new Deus Ex: Human Revolution screenshots! Don't look yet, though. Let's guess what's in them based on what the Art Director said about the game at E3.

Lots of black and gold!

Heavy Blade Runner influence!

Someone is probably wearing sunglasses!

And robots! (Or at least a robot-style arm)

Look at that, we were exactly right. Not that these look bad -- mind you. Aside from this concept piece, they're all in-engine and they all look very impressive (and that's a nice security camera interface, too). But when Jonathan Jacques-Belletête said he wanted the game to have a distinct style, he wasn't kidding around.

Gallery: Deus Ex: Human Revolution (08/05/10)

New Deus Ex: Human Revolution screens look great, very gold originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 05 Aug 2010 20:00:00 EST. "The team's work can speak for itself, so we're gonna jump right into the game. We're gonna take you to a weapons manufacturing facility deep behind enemy lines in the Soviet Union. This is WMD."
After this brief introduction by Treyarch's Mark Lamia at an event in Los Angeles earlier this month, I was treated to a first look at the annualized, even-year Call of Duty production by Treyarch. Amidst all the legal posturing, accusations, departures, hires, and general unpleasantness (read all about it), Call of Duty: Black Ops is nearing the end of its two-year development cycle and heading toward a November 9 release date.

While Black Ops isn't the next "Modern Warfare" game, it is a modern warfare title. The seemingly short jump from World War II's 1940s setting to the Cold War in the 1960-70s might not sound like much, but it's brought Treyarch's game into the modern era in a big way. The demo starts with a pilot -- decked in full pressure flight suit, appearing more astronaut than aviator -- climbing aboard a massive SR-71 Blackbird, a "strategic reconnaissance aircraft" built in 1964 and a fabled "black" project.
Guerrilla Games recently held a small press event in Amsterdam where the studio finally and officially announced Killzone 3. PlayStation Blog Europe's James Gallagher was in attendance and has reported on a handful of the revelations made during the event. Gallagher has confirmed a few of the features spoiled by forumites who had received subscriber copies of GamePro's Killzone 3-centric July issue, which is due out on newsstands June 1.

Most of the details we heard last week -- for instance, the game will have a 3D mode and feature jetpacks, which seems like one heck of a winning combination to us. You can check out the first several Killzone 3 screens in the gallery below. Rest assured, we'll be seeing a lot more of the game when it's undoubtedly featured during Sony's E3 2010 press conference next month. (We'll be sure to pack our 3-D specs.)
The latest batch of screenshots for Square Enix's second stab at MMO-ifying its flagship brand, Final Fantasy XIV, doesn't really focus on the diverse ecology of the world of Eorzea. Rather, it shows off a few of the noteworthy locales in the whimsically named City-State of Limsa Lominsa, one of the three main territories players will take residence in.

First, Wilson breaks down some tactics in Team Race, your run-of-the-mill us-vs-them race mode, in which teams duke it out on the track. Here, players can swap mods and lend assistance in a variety of ways -- all in an effort to finish the race in the best position possible, thus earning more points than the enemy team.

The second portion of the trailer focuses on Team Motor Mash, another points-based team mode in which points aren't simply earned through pole position, but rather through the judicious application of power-ups. Players can also earn points by smashing into rival drivers, giving this mode a Destruction Derby-like feel.

Aside from the new trailer, we've also got some new screens for you to check out in the gallery below. Blur races to the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on May 25.
Games Distillery has released some new details about its upcoming XBLA game, Aqua: Naval Warfare. Players will take control of one of three different basic ships: the speedboat, the cruiser or the gunship. Each vessel offers its own strengths and weaknesses. The speedboat is agile but low on firepower, while the gunship is slow but powerful. Meanwhile, the cruiser is an "all-rounder" with no outstanding weaknesses or strengths. Each craft can also be upgraded in the game's "Warshops" and via upgrades hidden in the game's levels.

Aqua also allows players to issue commands to a squadron of four support ships. These ships provide a variety of support abilities including healing, extra firepower and sonar. Check out screens of each vessel and the support ships in the gallery below.
And while we don't tell you about each and every one (there's a handful of trailers right here, for instance), we do try and point out the ones that are particularly enticing. For instance, today's trailer features the once-again-playable Luigi as he gets in on some Power Star collecting action himself.

It's not clear whether the other Mr. Mario is playable from the get-go -- in the first Super Mario Galaxy, Luigi only became playable after collecting all 120 stars -- but he will clearly be a character that players can control. See Mario's partner in time don an adorable bee suit in the gallery below and check out the new trailer just above.
We're not sure what it is about this batch of screenshots for Rocket Knight that fills us with such euphoria. Perhaps it's all of the pretty colors. Perhaps they remind us of the simpler days of our youth. Perhaps we've only recently realized how preposterous the concept of an opossum strapped to a rocket really is. Seriously, think about it. Really think about it. It makes zero sense.
There's an old sea shanty that goes: "I'm on a boat and it's going fast and I've got a nautical-themed pashmina afghan." Which reminds us that, in Hydro Thunder Hurricane from Vector Unit, you're in a boat and you're going fast -- and while it's up to you to provide your own fine pashmina wool garment, the game will provide a couple of nifty modes not found in the arcade original (or its home conversions).
The first of these is called Ring Master. Each course in the game will feature three different layouts of floating rings that must be raced through in this slalom-style event. These "gates" will get smaller and smaller as the difficulty level grows higher. Gauntlet mode will see the courses littered with exploding barrels to avoid, boost jump over or collide with, if that's your thing. Vector Unit has also built a system into its game whereby you'll see your friends' best split times as you pass checkpoints.

We've got a whole <strike>galley</strike> gallery of new screens today as well, so give 'em a look below. And if you haven't seen the game in action yet -- or read our hands-on impressions of it -- you really need to.
Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you the latest batch of screenshots from Enslaved, developed by Heavenly Sword's Ninja Theory. The year is far from over, but we're already donning the game with an award (albeit a made-up one) for "Most Copious Use of Post-Processing 2010" because we can't fathom another game having more of the stuff.

Don't take this as a slight against the game by any means -- we think the post-apocalyptic retelling of the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West looks just super. Plus, this round of shots seems to include a few that look like actual gameplay, which is always, y'know, good -- with or without fancy-schmancy shader effects.
We'd like to take a moment to wish all of humanity (and felinity?) the best of luck when dealing with Risk: Factions' recently announced, third group of soldiers: the unfeeling, unstoppable Robot Menace. Check out the video above to see the origins of this once-domesticated group's violent self-awareness, and the screenshots below to see the Robots in action.

EA also revealed an Avatar costume piece based on the new faction, which turns your online representation's typically dopey head into a Robot's horrifying countenance. We're sure it will strike fear into your wall of adversaries in 1 vs 100.

[Famitsu]

A handful of Lost Planet 2 screenshots from Famitsu have revealed the game will borrow the stars of two more franchises: Frank West from Dead Rising and the Scaly Knife-Gun Dude from Monster Hunter, the latter being exclusive to the PS3 version of the game. For those of you keeping track, these two join Gears of War's Marcus and Dom (who will only appear in the 360 version), Resident Evil's Wesker, and What's His Face from Lost Planet 2 in the fight against the calamitous, towering Akrid.

Though most of these crossovers seem pretty out of place, we're betting the dude from Monster Hunter will be right at home bringing down monsters the size of football stadiums. That kind of thing is right in his wheelhouse.
Lost Planet 2 getting guest characters from Dead Rising, Monster Hunter originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 15 Apr 2010 16:45:00 EST.
As today is the last full day you'll get a chance to enjoy Halo 2, Bungie has apparently gone and pulled the joke lever. In preparation for tonight's festivities, we went online to download all of the extra maps for the game and get a round of practice in, only to find a few peculiar messages -- like the self-esteem booster you see above.

For the most part, the messages are pretty jovial, though there are a few odd ones that take it a bit too far. Head into the gallery below to check 'em all out.
Ever since we first saw the trailer for Red Dead Redemption's free-roaming multiplayer mode, our minds have been feverishly attempting to come up with a name for our rag-tag group of desperados. Sadly, we've yet to come up with anything better than "The Frontier Sunshine Squad." Perhaps the latest batch of screenshots for the title, arranged in the gallery below, will provide us with the inspiration we need to come up with something more intimidating.

How about "Revolver-Having Super Friends?" Is that any better?
Click to solve "The Case of What's in the Gallery"
Wideload Games' "Clue meets Guess Who meets adventure game" for Wii, Disney Guilty Party, will be available for investigation (and also purchase) in North America on July 27.

The game lets up to four players use their Wiimotes as magnifying glasses, fingerprint kits and other detective tools as they rush to solve crimes orchestrated by the diabolical "Mr. Valentine." Along the way, players must gather clues about the identity of the culprit in each particular case, through investigation and investigation-themed minigames.

While you wait for the July release, feel free to take a magnifying glass into our gallery and see what can be deduced from the new screenshots.
While we were all hoping that the recently announced Pokémon Black and White would have an appropriate film noir aesthetic and monochromatic color palette, a few vividly colorful glimpses of the game have appeared in CoroCoro magazine (via Serebii.net). While it certainly looks a heck of a lot like previous DS-based iterations of the franchise, a few of the screens seem to change up the series' isometric camera angle. Will some creative camerawork and new pocket-sized monsters be enough to keep the franchise fresh? Only time will tell.

Good news for fans of Halo minutia -- and who isn't -- as Bungie has released a whole slew of Halo: Reach character, weapon and vehicle renders. Not only that, but these renders are in high resolution. That means you can take in all the tiny details of each and every image, from trigger mechanisms to faceplates to ... whatever the stubby wing things are called on the Banshee.

Our favorite image so far is the plasma launcher (pictured above), which, according to the latest Bungie Weekly Update, sends "a volley of one to four plasma explosives" at your enemy. Fun.
Due this fall, The Conduit 2 expands the venue for the serie's action from Washington, D.C. to a variety of locations across the world. The game also adds "all-new" online and couch co-op modes, including Team Invasion Mode, a 4-player split-screen mode that can be played online or off. The 12-player online competitive play now benefits from "larger and more intricate indoor and outdoor battlefields," and retains the Wii Speak functionality that so few games employ.
Namco Bandai has released some details about the weapon system in the long-delayed Splatterhouse reboot. Weapons are divided into categories like "edged," "bludgeon" and "extra brutal," which determine what kind of damage they do to enemies.

This scant explanation is joined by a series of new screens that depict some of said weapons, which the super-huge Rick Taylor will employ on his quest to smash a house full of monsters. Included are such exciting implements as a board with nails in it, a pipe and ... a zombie clown head? What class of weapon is that? "Extra hilariously morbid?"
Feeling blue today? Maybe it's because you sensed that Sega was going to make your eyes tear up (in a good way) with these razor-sharp new Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 screenshots. Or maybe you're just down in the dumps; in which case, we're sorry to hear it -- and we really hope these screens cheer you up.

The new images feature the already revealed Splash Hill Zone, this time with Sonic racing through it at sunset. Of course, without any more information, we don't know if this is a later act in the stage, or if the time of day will change dynamically mid-level. We can tell you that we think the lighting looks great, even if Sonic's true blue coloring appears to be unaffected by it (probably due to a clause in his contract).

Check out the full set of screens in the high-res gallery below.

After having to endure concept videos and shaky-cam gameplay, we finally have some real, honest-to-goodness screens of Twisted Pixel's upcoming Comic Jumper for you to rest your weary eyes upon. They're all lifted from the first "comic" of the game, "The Adventures of Captain Smiley," which Twisted Pixel has described jokingly as "kind of a crappy comic." Perhaps that explains why the titular hero will be busting out?

If your thirst for funny book action still hasn't been slaked, we hear you'll be able to see a demo of the game next week at PAX East. Can't make it to PAX East? We've got that very same demo in video format (direct feed this time!) after the break, along with a gallery of concept art for the game.

Though we don't have any new gameplay details on upcoming grappler EA Sports MMA for you today, we do have a whole mess of new screenshots. The images feature everything from the usual "two sweaty dudes staring each other down" to the brand new "dude walking down a runway with fire shooting in the air" -- there are even several images of MMA rings with the audience seated at dinner tables, presumably in the VIP section, watching the fight. Nothing says "Roman Colosseum" quite like eating dinner while watching two meaty gents beat each other into the mat!

These stills beg the obvious question: Could the MMA game engine, with its crowd-eating technology, be used to create a fully-realized "Medieval Times" game? We think so.
We have no doubt you've been counting the days (likely via tick marks on the wall), waiting for more information on Zootfly/Deep Silver's Prison Break, so you'll be glad to hear that the game finally got a solid release date (March 30) and a price ($49.99 on 360/PS3, $39.99 on PC) today from its publisher.

Along with the mess of new screens we've dropped below into a gallery, this is just about the most flush we've been with Prison Break info in the entire history of the game's development cycle -- and it's coming out in just under three weeks! As the game's coming from the developer of Mr. T: The Game, we're willing to give this one a shot just so we can support the company's upcoming adventure into madness.
Around these parts, we're all avid supporters of a thick, lustrous beard. Though our tastes for the gaming industries various genres differ greatly, we can all get behind any game so long as it includes characters with copious amounts of facial hair. For this reason alone, a recent batch of screenshots has placed Fallout: New Vegas firmly on our list of most anticipated games of 2010.
There's also a Super Mutant with heart-rimmed glasses and a doo-wop weave, and man, we've got to find out what that's all about.
