Sony has confirmed via the PlayStation Blog that Secret Agent Clank will be sleuthing its way onto the PS2 after all. The port is being handled by Sanzaru Games who you may (but probably won't) know from its Wii and DS game, Ninja Reflex. It looks like the game will stay very faithful to the original PSP version, but with slightly improved graphics (thanks to the "additional power of the PlayStation 2") and an added "lock-strafe camera mode."

You'll be able to get your hands on the PS2 version of Secret Agent Clank on May 26. Alternatively, you could save yourself the wait and pick up the PSP version right now. What do you mean you don't have a PSP yet? We hear there's a bunch of cool stuff coming out in 2009.

Some may argue that the PSP games library is filled with PS2 ports. Those people are wrong. In fact, it's the PS2 library that's filled with PSP ports! Joining games like Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, it appears Secret Agent Clank will be receiving its very own PS2 port. GameFly currently has a listing for a PS2 version of last year's stealth-inspired platformer. Considering the developer's track record, a PS2 port seems quite inevitable.

Some may dislike seeing PSP lose yet another exclusive, but we're impressed that Sony still continues to offer PS2 owners new games. Nine years into the PS2's life, and it's still chugging along quite nicely.

Sony has announced that all future first-party PSP games will be available through download in Japan, beginning later this year via the Wi-Fi Store. The store is scheduled to open in Japan on October 15th with the firmware v5.00 update. Games to be sold by direct download include Secret Agent Clank (11/20), Patapon 2 (11/27), and LocoRoco 2 (12/4) (these titles will also be available on UMD).

There is currently no date for the release of the store in North America or Europe. We're also wondering how downloadable games' pricing will compare to standard UMD retail prices (considering that direct downloads save on packaging, shipping and a slew of other costs). We'll update as soon as we hear anything.

What went wrong? After an excellent first outing on PSP, High Impact Games has created a follow-up to Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters that's worse in almost every single aspect. Everything, from the presentation to the graphics to the core gameplay, has been downgraded in this PSP-exclusive. Could this be PSP's biggest software disappointment of the year?

The premise of Secret Agent Clank is quite intriguing. Inexplicably, Ratchet has broken into a museum and has stolen the universe's largest diamond. But what's his intent? Secret Agent Clank is sent on the case. The experience of playing as Clank is similar to Ratchet, but there's a greater emphasis on stealth and gadgetry. Busting out the big guns simply won't work with Ratchet's diminuitive friend.

Secret Agent Clank is finally releasing this week on PSP systems. Secret Agent Clank figurines are currently available for those who pre-order the game at GameStop. A post by Sony America producer Frank Simon on the PlayStation Blog says that the toy will be available with pre-order -- dramatic pause -- "while supplies last." We've been told the figure is bendable, but not posable.

Secret Agent Clank won't be saving the galaxy until June 17, but a demo is currently available on the PSN.

Well, PS3 owners don't really have much to look forward to this week from the PSN update, but those with a PSP can try out the new Secret Agent Clank demo. Maybe we spoke too soon, some people might be interested in the Rocketmen expansion or the Dragon Ball Z demo. Don't forget that new echochrome levels are now available, although it isn't technically part of the PSN update, it seems worth mentioning here. Find the full NA update after the break.

The PlayStation Blog reveals that the PSP's Secret Agent Clank will infiltrate retail beginning June 17. PSP Fanboy recently posted several new videos of the game, including scenes of Cpt. Qwark's gameplay.

Fans of the Ratchet & Clank universe who don't own a PSP might not have to worry about missing out on this game as long as they have a PS2 or backwards-compatible PS3. If Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters is any indication, Secret Agent Clank could sneak onto the PS2 as a port sometime in the relative future.

The two-day alternative music festival takes place this Saturday and Sunday at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, NJ. The festival features headliners, such as Snoop Dogg, Jimmy Eat World, and Panic at the Disco. The PlayStation Patrol Truck will be attending, and will showcase a number of PS3 games, such as SingStar, MLB 08: The Show and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Want to get your hands on SingStar (PS3) and Secret Agent Clank (PSP) before everyone else? Then you'll head off to the Bamboozle Festival this weekend. The two-day alternative music festival takes place this Saturday and Sunday at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, NJ. The festival features headliners, such as Snoop Dogg, Jimmy Eat World, and Panic at the Disco. The PlayStation Patrol Truck will be attending, and will showcase a number of PS3 games, such as SingStar, MLB 08: The Show and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Various PSP Zones will also be at the festival, and will feature titles like Secret Agent Clank and God of War: Chains of Olympus.

Playing well at the PlayStation Patrol Truck could net you the chance to meet Bamboozle artists. Top players will have the chance to challenge artists such as Armor For Sleep, Chiodos, Circa Survive, The Color Fred, The Audition and All Time Low. Winners will receive VIP access to the show.

So Ratchet is in prison, Quark is taking on bosses, and Clank is wearing the nice James Bond threads. Looks like High Impact Games is having some good old fun with the characters in this one. So what exactly is going on in Secret Agent Clank? If you haven't been clued in yet or have forgotten the info from our countless interviews and hands-on from the past, then watch this Gamespot video interview with design director Lesley Mathieson. Included in the video, you'll see an interesting scene involving Ratchet, some shots of Quark in battle, and of course more Clank and his gadgetry.

Finally! We can see Captain Quark in action! Secret Agent Clank hasn't been pushing the limits of PSP graphics, but we have to say that things look a bit more charming in these new screens. The lighting effects look really great, and the number of characters on screen is impressive. We're glad to finally see the new enemies that'll be featured in this PSP-exclusive spin-off -- they look just as zany as the series' past creations.

If a picture can tell a thousand words, then we have 13,000 new words to say about Secret Agent Clank. This upcoming PSP-exclusive adventure has players returning to the world of Ratchet & Clank. Be amazed at Clank's surprising arsenal of ninja moves in these explosive screenshots. While it might not feature the same sheen as other PSP titles like God of War, we're confident that the team at High Impact can squeeze some more, er, impact, out of the PSP before its release.

Way back at GDC weeks ago, we had a chance to chat with Lesley Mathieson from High Impact Games. They're currently working on their second PSP outing, Secret Agent Clank. Read on as we chat about this upcoming PSP exclusive action game.

This is the second PSP game. What has High Impact Games learned from Size Matters?
Well, we learned a lot of things. Obviously, the PSP is a very different platform than the PS2. We learned a lot of things about adapting the game to that platform, making sure the controls work, etc.

Is PSP a platform the team would like to continue with?
The PlayStation Portable is a great platform. We love working with it. At the same time, we're excited about the next generation of hardware as well. We'd be happy to work in any direction, so long as its an exciting and interesting project.

If grainy low-res gameplay videos get you all hot and bothered under the collar, then you're in for quite a treat. IGN has posted four Secret Agent Clank videos that aren't exactly the prettiest we've ever seen, but they do show some more of what we can expect from the Clank's adventure, and it's pretty funny to see Ratchet get thrown into the "big house."

With the incredible mystery surrounding this new title, we asked our readers to come up with questions for the High Impact Games team. We're proud to present this PSP Fanboy mega-interview, which reveals the game's story, connectivity with the previous Ratchet games, and plans for a demo. Read on.

How are you going to improve on Size Matters? Are there any improvements on your previous engine or are you building a new one?
Dave Goodrich, Lead Designer: High Impact Games has taken advantage of the Size Matters engine to give us a strong base to work from for this exciting new adventure. Secret Agent Clank has a different style than Size Matters and has expanded into new game types such as timing and stealth. Along with new gameplay modes, there is an assortment of playable characters, each with their own unique levels.

What kind of multiplayer support will there be? Will it work through Infrastructure?
Dave Goodrich, Lead Designer: Secret Agent Clank is a very story intensive game with lots of unique gameplay elements. We have decided to focus our efforts on the single player game to make a really engrossing experience for the player. There is no multiplayer planned for this installment of the game.

Sony revealed a brand new game at its pre-TGS media event. Unfortunately, it was a game we all knew was coming: Secret Agent Clank, a new PSP continuation of the popular Ratchet & Clank series. First accidentally leaked on the musician's resume, and then accidentally confirmed to PSP Fanboy by a developer, the existence of Secret Agent Clank was ironically not very secret at all.

The brief hands-on time we had with the game highlighted gameplay that strays far from what series fans have become accustomed to. The first part had Clank jumping through laser grids while pressing buttons in a music-based rhythm game that very closely resembles PaRappa the Rapper. The next area showed platforming as Clank, sans Ratchet. Finally, we encountered a boss where we finally got to play as Captain Quark. Like another green-plad video game character, he uses a vacuum gun to suck trash and projectiles and throw it back to the enemy.

The visuals were on par with the previous Ratchet & Clank title from High Impact Games. The game still has a long way to go, and will not be present at Tokyo Game Show this year.
