Let's go save some crazy money, with Sega PSN/XBLA sales

Sega is offering discounts on its digital console games this month, on both PSN and XBLA. The regions, timing, and games are all different between the platforms for maximum confusion. In fact, the only thing the two sales have in common is Streets of Rage 2.

Through November 29, North American PSN users will be able to get After Burner Climax for $5, and Genesis classics Streets of Rage 2, Comix Zone, and Golden Axe for $2.99 each. Sega's XBLA sale starts November 22 and runs through November 28, and offers 50% discounts on Crazy Taxi (sale price 400 Points), Sega Rally Online Arcade (400 Points), Streets of Rage 2 (200), Outrun Online Arcade (400), Happy Tree Friends (400), and Phantasy Star 2 (200).

PSN Euro update: Uncharted 3 beta, Sega Rally, Spelunker HD, Gex

Europe has received another sizable PSN update this week. The highlight is undoubtedly the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta. Two full retail titles were added as well, namely Red Faction: Armageddon and the aging Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2. On the bite-sized downloadable front are Sega Rally Online Arcade, Spelunker HD and Alien Zombie Mega Death. Cohort Chess has also been added to PlayStation Minis, while Gex: Deep Cover Gecko joins PSOne Classics.

DLC has been added for several games, including Super Street Fighter IV, Hyperdimension Neptunia, DiRT 3, Mortal Kombat and WWE All Stars.

XBLA in Brief: Sega Rally Online Arcade

Sega Rally Online Arcade marks the sole release on Xbox Live Arcade this week. Based on the "DNA" of Sega Rally Revo and Sega Rally 3, it should be comfortably familiar to fans of the series. For the uninitiated: It's essentially power sliding and lots of mud. Watch the latest XBLA in Brief and see if it revs your engine.

LA Noire 'Rockstar Pass' add-on spotlighted in Xbox Marketplace release schedule

Microsoft today sent out the release schedule for Xbox Live Marketplace content over the next two weeks (May 10-23). The schedule was posted in the latest edition of the "Xbox Live Newsbeat" press email, which showed next Tuesday's L.A. Noire "In the Spotlight."

"In celebration of launch on May 17," the newsletter teases, "take your L.A. Noire experience to the next level and download the 'L.A. Noire Rockstar Pass' add-on." The Rockstar Pass what now?

Releasing day and date with the retail game, the 800-point DLC "Pass" is presumably a sort of Project Ten Dollar experiment. It's unclear, however, if it will provide access to the pre-order bonus content (already confirmed to be made available for purchase "at some point after the game comes out") or offer wholly new content to all owners of the game. Perhaps it's a sort of Cerberus Network-like pipeline for delivering new detective cases -- but that's just a guess. The Pass remains a mystery for now, as Rockstar has yet to respond to our request for clarification.

Otherwise, the new Marketplace schedule has few intriguing reveals. Besides noting some previously announced dates and several Games on Demand launches, it does list Sega Rally Online Arcade for release on Xbox Live Arcade next Wednesday, May 18, for $10. Some pirate-themed deals and the demo of Fable 3 for Windows will also be available next week. Head past the break for the complete schedule.

Update [5/18/11]: The due date came and went without the so-called "Rockstar Pass" appearing on the Xbox Marketplace -- and no mention is included in new copies of the game. Rockstar continues to keep mum on the subject.

Sega Rally Online Arcade preview: Something old, something kinda new

"It's not a brand new game. It's kind of a combination of Sega Rally 3, the arcade game, and Sega Rally Revo," Sega brand manager Ben Harbone explained to me during a GDC 2011 event. "It's got all of the gameplay characteristics from the arcade game -- it's running on the Arcade engine -- but with some of the Sega Rally Revo cars."

There are a total of 13 cars in Sega Rally Online Arcade, an Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network bound title, spanning the more popular rally offerings like the Subaru WRX, Ford Focus and Mitsubishi Evo, along with five different tracks to zip around in.

Sega Rally Online Arcade confirmed for PSN, XBLA

Sega Rally Online Arcade has made the trip from ratings board to release calendar in record time -- it's coming to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in 2011. According to the official announcement, Sega Rally Online Arcade is a new game "inspired" by Sega Rally Revo (2007) and the arcade-only Sega Rally 3, both of which were developed by Sega Racing Studio.

As the title subtly implies, online rally racing is a given. Other features, which couldn't be incorporated into the logo with any elegance whatsoever, include the 13 rally cars, Championship Battle and Time Attack modes, leaderboards and "a brand new achievement system."

While you hurriedly type "Game Over YEAAAAAH" into the comments section, we'll keep an eye out for a more specific launch window.

'Sega Rally Online Arcade' rated in Korea

If a new listing by the Korean Game Rating Board is any indication, we could be kicking up some dust on PSN soon. The board posted a rating entry for "Sega Rally Online Arcade," a title that doesn't really require much interpretation. It's Sega Rally -- the classic arcade rally racing series originally created by Tetsuya Mizuguchi -- online.

The title was submitted by Sony Computer Entertainment Korea, which would suggest a release on a PlayStation system; and we'll just go out on a limb and guess that would be PS3. The previous "Online Arcade" game, OutRun Online Arcade, was released on PSN and XBLA ... and then removed (due to an expiring contract with Ferrari). Since this Sega Rally game has yet to even be officially announced, it'll be long before we have to worry about that game being over (yeaaah).
