The last we heard of a potential sequel to the teenager-infused romp through Shibuya was in August of 2010, when series artist Tetsuya Nomura said "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/09/nomura-definitely-wants-to-make-a-the-world-ends-with-you-sequ/">I definitely want to make a sequel</a>."<br /><br />Fast-forward about a year, and <em>The World Ends With You</em> protagonist Neku is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/15/the-world-ends-with-you-character-spotted-in-kingdom-hearts-3d/">spotted as one of the many cameos</a> during <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/kingdom-hearts-3d-dream-drop-distance"><em>Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance</em></a>'s Tokyo Game Show demo. Now, Nomura has said that <em>TWEWY</em> supporting character Raimu, who never spoke during the original game, will also be in <em>Kingdom Hearts 3D</em> and will be fully voice acted "out of consideration of the future of The World Ends With You series," according to an interview translated by <a href="http://andriasang.com/con0r9/subarashiki_sequel_hints/">Andriasang</a>.<br /><br />If that weren't powerfully tantalizing on its own, Nomura also said that "there probably is something" coming in the series' future, though he couldn't speak in specifics at the time. He also laughed mid-sentence, according to the translation, although there's no context provided to indicate whether the laugh was the playful chuckle of an appreciative artist, or the maniacal cackling of a man manipulating the hearts of thousands. Without this vital context clue, we'll just have to wait and see what happens.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/21/square-enix-hints-nudges-and-winks-about-the-world-ends-with-yo/">Square Enix hints, nudges and winks about The World Ends With You sequel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 21 Apr 2012 16:30:00 EST. "Today and tomorrow I am in the land of Dracul... What am I doing there?? You will see...." he <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/CastlevaniaLOS/status/186788518977220608">wrote</a> earlier today. Despite his teasing, Cox wouldn't tell us anything beyond "No comment." <br /><br />This is hardly the first indication of a sequel to 2010's <em>Castlevania: Lords of Shadow,</em> and it seems likely that Konami is once again working with Spanish studio MercurySteam. One employee posted the teaser image seen above to his website back in late January, specifically pointing out the connection to Konami.<br /><br />Another staff member, taking to Spanish radio (via <a href="http://www.eurogamer.es/articles/mercury-steam-trabaja-en-un-nuevo-castlevania">Eurogamer ES</a>), mentioned his involvement with a sequel in late 2010 (though it's possible he was just riding high on the first game's then-recent debut). Konami's official line on the matter is ... well, nothing. The publisher hasn't made a peep regarding a new <em>Castlevania</em>.<br /><br />Regardless, with PAX East just a few days away and the upcoming preview season, we expect it won't be long before Konami's tune changes. We'll keep an eye on <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/CastlevaniaLOS">Cox's Twitter feed</a> as well, just in case.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/02/castlevania-lords-of-shadow-producer-teasing-new-game-namedrop/">Castlevania: Lords of Shadow producer teasing new game, namedrops Dracula</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Apr 2012 18:00:00 EST. Bethesda retains the trademark for "Scrolls," but Mojang can use it for its title, a result that had Notch beaming -- but as with all legal battles, it's not that simple.<br /><br />After the celebratory "Yaaaay! &lt;3" Notch tweeted, "The actual document I signed was like a billion pages, so at least we know a bunch of lawyers got rich. Good, wouldn't want them to starve." Within those billion-odd pages comes an interesting deal that prohibits Mojang from using "Scrolls" in the title of any sequels to <em>Scrolls</em>:<br /><br />"ZeniMax has licensed the 'Scrolls' mark to Mojang to be used solely in conjunction with its existing Scrolls digital card game and any add-on material it makes to that game," a Bethesda statement reads. "The terms of the settlement bar Mojang from using the Scrolls mark for any sequel to the current card game, or any other video game."<br /><br />Either Notch doesn't plan on making more than one iteration of <em>Scrolls</em>, or the subsequent titles will be called "Reams," "Parchments" or "Ancient Paper that One Rolls Up and can Unravel to Read From, Such as a Decree."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/12/mojang-cant-use-scrolls-in-any-sequels-to-scrolls-lawsuit/">Mojang can't use 'Scrolls' in any sequels to 'Scrolls,' lawsuit dictates</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Mar 2012 15:00:00 EST. "We created <em>Auditorium</em> by accident and had little game design experience. We've spent the past three years honing our skills so we could tackle multiplayer.<br /><br />"<em>Auditorium</em> has been our playground since the day we started, so the only logical step is to keep her as our playground," Stallwood adds, unknowingly outing <em>Auditorium</em> as a female game, for those of you keeping score.<br /><br /><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Auditorium-2-Duet/">Auditorium 2: Duet</a></em> will be optimized for two-player gameplay, and Cipher Prime will be testing it as a local feature to start, with tentative plans -- more like vehement wishes -- to include PS3/Steam and iPad/Steam crossplay functions down the line.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/auditorium-dudes/">Auditorium 2: Duet - Multiplayer Design Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/auditorium-dudes/#4852216"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/aduet001-1330443742_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/auditorium-dudes/#4852217"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/aduet002-1330443743_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/auditorium-dudes/#4852218"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/aduet010-1330443743_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/auditorium-dudes/#4852219"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/aduet011-1330443744_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/auditorium-dudes/#4852220"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/aduet012-1330443744_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/28/auditorium-2-duet-multiplayer-wants-you-to-make-sweet-harmonies/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Auditorium 2: Duet multiplayer wants you to make sweet harmonies with that special someone</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/28/auditorium-2-duet-multiplayer-wants-you-to-make-sweet-harmonies/">Auditorium 2: Duet multiplayer wants you to make sweet harmonies with that special someone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Feb 2012 14:40:00 EST. Not everyone is ready to let the dream go, as <a href="http://playstationlifestyle.net/2012/02/06/rumor-star-wars-battlefront-iii-in-development-at-spark-unlimited-coming-this-year/">PlayStation Lifestyle</a> is reporting a slew of data that it says suggests developer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/spark-unlimited/">Spark Unlimited</a> is working on <em>Battlefront 3.</em><br /><br />Lifestyle's evidence includes a <a href="http://www.sparkunlimited.com/jobs_position_designsrcombat.html">job opening</a> at Spark listing "a 3rd Person Action/Adventure sequel in a high-profile science fiction franchise currently greenlit for full production development for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC markets;" a Spark employee's <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/dalanchoo">LinkedIn profile</a> that describes a sword-fighting game for a well-known IP; and <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=9898214&amp;pid=2752599&amp;authType=name&amp;authToken=gBYf&amp;trk=pbmap">another</a> that lists a triple-A third-person shooter that's been in development for three years.<br /><br />Spark Unlimited's previous projects include 2008's <em>Legendary </em>and <em>Turning Point: Fall of Liberty</em>, and 2004's <em>Call of Duty: Finest Hour</em>. Battlefront 1 and 2 were developed by Pandemic Studios, which was bought by EA and eventually <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/17/pandemic-closes-physical-doors-brand-lives-on/">shuttered</a> in 2009. Before closing, Pandemic <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/10/rumorang-star-wars-battlefront-iii-not-currently-at-pandemic/">said</a> it was not working on <em>Battlefront 3</em>, and no developer has officially claimed it since.<br /><br />Spark's coming title could be one of many unannounced sci-fi sequels, such as <em>Star Wars: Jedi Knight 3</em>, yet another <em>XCOM</em> revamp (why not?) or <em>Asteroids 3D: When Spinning and Shooting Doesn't Work</em>. Spark says it plans on <a href="http://www.sparkunlimited.com/projects.html">publicly announcing</a> its sci-fi secret this year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/08/rumor-spark-unlimited-producing-sci-fi-sequel-speculation-says/">Rumor: Spark Unlimited producing sci-fi sequel, speculation says Battlefront 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Feb 2012 21:45:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gaijin-games">Gaijin Games</a> has announced a sequel to the fourth entry in its lauded Bit.Trip series, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/bit-trip-runner"><em>Bit.Trip Runner</em></a>, entitled <em>Bit.Trip Presents: Runner 2, Future Legend of Rhythm Alien</em>. The first direct sequel in the Bit.Trip series, <em>Runner 2</em> sheds the 8-bit graphical motif so closely associated with the titles in favor of something else, preliminary hints at which can be seen in the concept art gallery below.<br />
<br />
Still in the <a href="http://www.runner2.com/blog/2011/10/7/the-first-appearance-of-commander-video-in-runner-2.html">extremely early stages of development</a>, <em>Runner 2</em> returns Commander Video to action with at least 10 new abilities, HD visuals, support for "Achievements/trophies/leaderboards," unlockable costumes and "LOTS more to be revealed later." The game will arrive sometime in 2012, as a download (in true Gaijin fashion), though this time on PSN and XBLA. If the brainstorming session above is any indication, <em>Runner 2</em> may feature some paradigm-shifting design choices.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/runner-2-dev-blog-concept-art/">Runner 2 (Dev Blog Concept Art)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/runner-2-dev-blog-concept-art/#4512121"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/runner2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/runner-2-dev-blog-concept-art/#4512122"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/treespine_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/runner-2-dev-blog-concept-art/#4512123"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/treesround_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/08/bit-trip-presents-runner-2-future-legend-of-rhythm-alien/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Bit.Trip Presents: Runner 2, Future Legend of Rhythm Alien</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/08/bit-trip-presents-runner-2-future-legend-of-rhythm-alien/">Bit.Trip Presents: Runner 2, Future Legend of Rhythm Alien</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 08 Oct 2011 19:30:00 EST. 	<img alt="White Knight Chronicles 2" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/whiteknightchroniheader.jpg" style="border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; margin: 0px;" /></div>
Last year's <em>White Knight Chronicles</em>, developed by Level-5 and published by SCEA, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/04/review-white-knight-chronicles/">was a "surprisingly mediocre" RPG</a> with some interesting skill-up mechanics. That's probably why Sony passed on publishing the sequel in America this time around, but <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/07/d3-publisher-picks-up-white-knight-chronicles-2-for-north-americ/">D3 Publisher has picked up the reins</a>, and will be putting out <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/white-knight-chronicles-2"><em>White Knight Chronicles 2</em></a> (which will also contain the first game's International Edition on the very same disc) on September 13.<br />
<br />
Fortunately for series fans, improvements have been made. While the last game's battle system was occasionally slow and tedious, the sequel's attacks have been sped up a little bit -- not only do individual abilities charge and execute faster, but there are more ranged options and "charge" attacks, designed to get players in and out of battle quickly.<br />
<br />
That's not to say that the game necessarily plays significantly differently from the first title -- it really doesn't. But it is smoother, and the addition of some major customization features for the game's mech-like Incorruptus armor means that those who found something fun in the first game will probably be back for another round.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/white-knight-chronicles-2-0/">White Knight Chronicles 2 (8/21/11)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/white-knight-chronicles-2-0/#4382702"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/wkcii15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/white-knight-chronicles-2-0/#4382703"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/wkcii1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/white-knight-chronicles-2-0/#4382704"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/wkcii2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/white-knight-chronicles-2-0/#4382705"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/wkcii3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/white-knight-chronicles-2-0/#4382706"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/wkcii4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/22/white-knight-chronicles-2-preview-round-two-start/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>White Knight Chronicles 2 preview: Round two start</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/22/white-knight-chronicles-2-preview-round-two-start/">White Knight Chronicles 2 preview: Round two start</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 22 Aug 2011 21:30:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Mirrors-Edge/"><em>Mirror's Edge</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Battlefield"><em>Battlefield </em></a>franchises are related through more than developer-publisher relations -- they're poised to share digital DNA. If it is made, a sequel to <em>Mirror's Edge</em> may use<em> Battlefield 3</em>'s Frostbite 2 engine, according to Official PlayStation Magazine, which writes, "The Frostbite 2 engine will pave the way for<em> Mirror's Edge</em> to make a free-running return."<br />
<br />
We don't know much more about the potential sequel or OPM's "inside whispers," besides the fact that <em>Mirror's Edge</em> is an "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/04/ea-figuring-out-how-to-continue-mirrors-edge/">important franchise</a>" to EA. We may have to wait until EA and DICE stop coddling <em>Battlefield 3</em> for confirmation of another game or details about its engine. For now, dreaming about free-running on Frostbite 2 will have to tide us over. <em>Mmmm</em>...<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/31/mirrors-edge-sequel-could-get-cooler-with-frostbite-2-engine/">Rumor: A Mirror's Edge sequel could get cooler with Frostbite 2 engine</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 31 Jul 2011 16:30:00 EST. Players of the PC version of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dungeon-siege-3"><em>Dungeon Siege 3</em></a> were <a href="http://games.kitguru.net/pc-gaming/pc-reviews/terry-franklin/dungeon-siege-3-review-pc/">disappointed</a> with the keyboard-and-mouse controls used in the game, generally deciding that using an Xbox 360 controller was the way to go. If you're one of those folks, lead designer Nathaniel Chapman says there's good news: Obsidian plans to release <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-06-21-better-dungeon-siege-3-pc-controls-soon">an update that will improve the traditional PC controls</a>. According to Chapman, better PC controls for the game is "one thing I would have liked to have spent more time on, and we are actually spending time on now."<br />
<br />
Chapman also hinted that Obsidian would like to have made "a more fleshed out tutorial system" and "more unique armor variants" for the game's four playable characters. But those will have to wait for future versions of the game: "It's always good sequel or DLC material," he said.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/23/obsidian-plans-dungeon-siege-3-update-with-better-pc-controls/">Obsidian plans Dungeon Siege 3 update with better PC controls</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Jun 2011 02:00:00 EST. Augmented reality-based collection-RPG <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/invizimals"><em>Invizimals</em></a> never quite picked up the steam in North America that it managed to conjure up in Europe -- probably due to the fact the game came to our shores a full year after it hit PAL territories. Still, that doesn't mean we'll have to go without further iterations of the undetectable monster franchise: <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/05/26/invizimals-shadow-zone-coming-to-psp-this-fall/">PlayStation Blog</a> has announced that <em>Invizimals: Shadow Zone</em>, which dropped in Europe last November, will come stateside this fall.<br />
<br />
The game throws over 100 more secret beasts into the mix, and adds a co-op component to the original title's monster-capturing mechanic. So, potentially, you could have two people working in tandem to snatch collectible apparitions from the flat surfaces of their homes. We can't tell if that's going to make them look less insane, or exponentially more insane.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/26/invizimals-shadow-zone-will-cause-you-to-swat-at-your-coffee-ta/">Invizimals: Shadow Zone will have you swatting at your coffee table again this fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 May 2011 21:00:00 EST. If Nintendo is following up <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/donkey-kong-country-returns"><em>Donkey Kong Country Returns</em></a> with sequels like it did the original <em>Donkey Kong Country</em>, it's not doing so <em>right now</em>. Nintendo producer Kensuke Tanabe, who works with <em>DKCR</em> developer Retro Studios, told <a href="http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/03/03/no-sequel-planned-for-donkey-kong-country-returns.aspx">Game Informer</a>, "I wouldn't say we won't do a sequel, but we don't have anything planned at this time."<br />
<br />
In a postmortem panel at GDC on the development of last year's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/28/layton-unwound-future-and-kirby-epic-yarn-million-sold/">sucessful</a> <em>DKCR</em>, Retro revealed the difficulties of making the side-scroller. The team attempted to adapt the <em>Metroid Prime </em>morph ball camera to the side-scrolling, but found it unable to handle the quick and complex movements of the DK characters -- especially once Tanabe insisted that two-player simultaneous play be added.<br />
<br />
There are over 2000 animations for the player character, a number inflated by the second character -- and by the late-stage suggestion from Shigeru Miyamoto that Donkey Kong be able to blow on background items to reveal secrets. Miyamoto was testing the game, running back and forth for about ten minutes, when he declared that Donkey Kong appeared to be exhaling when he turned around. And then, he said that "it might be fun to make Donkey Kong blow on things," causing extensive damage to Retro's metaphorical tea table.<br />
<br />
And the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/08/super-guide-returns-in-donkey-kong-country-returns/">Super Guide</a> -- "oh, jeez," one of the team exclaimed when that subject came up. It turns out that Retro had to rewrite the engine to make it deterministic -- make it that all the inputs would result in the same output every time, essentially eliminating randomness. This turned out to be a boon, however, as the same mechanic that allowed the team to record playthroughs also made it easy to reproduce bugs in testing.<br />
<br />
Retro ended its panel by joking that it would like to refresh the <em>Doki Doki Panic (Super Mario Bros. 2)</em> series next, along with making a "<em>Pokemon Prime</em>." "We've been looking at Tingle a lot," as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/04/retro-reflects-on-donkey-kong-country-returns-denies-sequel-pla/">Retro reflects on Donkey Kong Country Returns, denies sequel plans</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Mar 2011 16:00:00 EST. Following the completion of <em>Enslaved: Odyssey to the West</em> (and its release <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/04/now-playing-october-4-10-2010/">this week</a>), Ninja Theory has turned to the next project on its plate, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dmc-devil-may-cry"><em>DmC: Devil May Cry</em></a>. However, studio head Tameem Antoniades tells <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-09-30-antoniades-dmc-wouldnt-block-enslaved-2">Eurogamer</a> that an <em>Enslaved</em> sequel isn't entirely off the table. In fact, Antoniades says the studio has the "capacity to do two games."<br />
<blockquote class="bq-standard">"The thinking from the beginning was not to assume there would be a sequel -- just to put everything into this game. It's a new IP, so let's not plan for a sequel because the chances are we'll only disappoint ourselves. So we mentally prepared for that -- we've not planned for a sequel. But if it gains some traction, I'd like to see something happen." </blockquote>Before there's any sequel talk, people will have to buy the game, of course. And <em>Enslaved</em> is going up against some stiff competition as the fall season ramps up; beginning this week with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/castlevania-lords-of-shadow"><em>Castlevania: Lords of Shadow</em></a>. But, hey, even if a sequel's ruled out, at least <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/29/enslaved-dlc-will-be-an-entirely-new-experience/">there will be DLC</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/04/ninja-theory-hasnt-planned-enslaved-sequel/">Ninja Theory hasn't planned Enslaved sequel, but 'would like something to happen'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Oct 2010 20:00:00 EST. It seems all of our training exercises to develop our latent mind control abilities are starting to pay off. After months of attempting to bend the will of Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura to try and get him to create a follow-up to 2008's surprisingly lovable handheld RPG <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-world-ends-with-you"><em>The World Ends With You</em></a>, the designer recently told Nintendo Power (transcribed <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/08/08/nomura-open-to-developing-the-world-ends-with-you-sequel/">by Siliconera</a>) that "I definitely want to make a sequel." See that, Nomura? <em>We're in your mind</em>.<br />
<br />
Of course, games at Square Enix are developed in a set order, and Nomura explained he's "very busy working on other titles right now, but when the time is right, I would love to make another installment of <em>The World Ends with You</em>." Now we just have to use our psychic powers to convince Nomura to go ahead and skip all those other games. Then we're going to make him do a funny little dance. Because <em>we can</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/09/nomura-definitely-wants-to-make-a-the-world-ends-with-you-sequ/">Nomura 'definitely' wants to make a The World Ends With You sequel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Aug 2010 20:00:00 EST. Even if not, we don't <em>think</em> this constitutes a spoiler: the ending provides a pretty strong hint that developer Shin'en is planning a sequel. How strong? "To be continued in <em>Jett Rocket 2</em>."<br />
<br />
Shin'en is probably hard at work adding <em>extreme</em> new vehicles and new areas of the planet Yoroppa right now. The developer can't know yet if the game sold well enough to justify a sequel (because it's been out for a day). <em>Pong Toss</em> achieved sufficient sales for a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pong-toss-pro">sequel</a>, so it's entirely possible. Actually, if there are two games about throwing ping-pong balls into plastic cups, we're going to go ahead and say that <em>anything</em> is possible.<br type="_moz" /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/30/jett-rocket-ending-announces-jett-rocket-2/">Jett Rocket ending announces Jett Rocket 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Jun 2010 10:30:00 EST. A Turkish site named <a href="http://www.oyungezer.com.tr/">Oyungezer</a> has reportedly leaked news of a direct sequel to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shogun_Total_War">the very first game</a> in the critically acclaimed historical combat <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/total-war"><em>Total War</em></a> series. The site mentioned in a deleted post that <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/shogun-2-total-war"><em>Shogun 2: Total War</em></a> would be on display at E3 in a few weeks. Soon after, Voodoo Extreme <a href="http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/55055/Official-Shogun-2-Total-War-Fact-Sheet-Leaks-Out">posted a leaked fact sheet</a> for the game, which will reportedly be developed by The Creative Assembly and published by Sega. According to the fact sheet, it will contain character progression across nine different Japanese clans, as well as improved war simulation gameplay on both land and sea. The fact sheet sets the release date in 2011.<br />
<br />
Joystiq contacted Sega to ask about the rumor, and we were told that it "can't comment on news about the next <em>Total War</em> game," so it looks like Sega's lips are sealed, at least until E3.<br />

Speaking at a recent EA showcase in London, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space"><em>Dead Space</em></a> executive producer Steve Papoutsis explained that while Visceral Games has plenty of ideas for the deep space horror series, the studio doesn't intend to run the franchise into the ground. <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/visceral_we_wont_cheapen_dead_space.html">According to Videogamer.com</a>, Papoutsis told attendees, "we've mapped out plenty of games worth of stuff. But there has to be an interest, right?" He added, "we don't want to cheapen what we're doing. We're really focused on quality with it. Hopefully if people like this one, we get to make another one."<br />
<br />
Papoutsis then told the crowd, "it would be great to just keep making more and more of them. We're thinking kart racer, a fitness game... joke!" Yeah, we're not sure a <em>Dead Space</em> fitness game would go over so well. You know, considering Isaac Clarke's main technique for weight loss is to forcibly remove excess appendages with the aid of futuristic power tools.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/19/plenty-of-dead-space-material-planned-producer-wary-of-diluti/">'Plenty' of Dead Space material planned, producer wary of diluting franchise</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 May 2010 14:00:00 EST. In a recent job listing on Gamasutra, EA's Visceral Games studio <a href="http://jobs.gamasutra.com/jobseekerx/viewjobrss.asp?cjid=21887&amp;accountno=178">put out a feeler</a> for "an experienced Environment Artist for an existing action/adventure franchise." We might normally excuse this as a job listing for the currently-in-development <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-2">Dead Space 2</a></em>, but the listing further details the project as "a major opportunity to contribute to a bold new franchise, heavily backed by the EA Games Label ... the sequel to a major new IP at the award-winning Visceral Games." <br />
<br />
The listing concludes with another vaguely suggestive line about creating a sequel that will "set new quality standards and make the franchise the world-leader in the action/melee-combat genre." Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are mentioned as target consoles. All these <em>clues</em> add up to reasonable speculation that Visceral is recruiting for a sequel to this year's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dantes-inferno">Dante's Inferno</a></em>.<br />
<br />
In December, the first game's producer was all for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/14/dantes-inferno-producer-hopes-for-sequel-despite-challenges/">the idea of a sequel</a>, but admitted that continuing to follow the path laid out by the <em>The Divine Comedy</em> source material, which would lead to Purgatory and perhaps on into Heaven, might not make for a great game -- <em>especially</em> in the action/melee-combat genre. Perhaps then, a <em>Dante's Inferno</em> sequel could take a few liberties with the story.<br />

In <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=239624">a recent interview with CVG</a>, Sega West president Mike Hayes spoke briefly on the future of the company's portfolio of intellectual properties. Hayes explained, "If you think about it, we can sequel-ise <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bayonetta"><em>Bayonetta</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/aliens-vs-predator"><em>AvP</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/alpha-protocol"><em>Alpha Protocol</em></a> and we can make a hit of something like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/vanquish"><em>Vanquish</em></a>." Those are some mighty bold plans, considering only two of those games have actually been released.<br />
<br />
We're fairly unsurprised by Sega's interest in a follow-up to <em>Bayonetta</em>. Not only because it's been a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/06/bayonetta-launch-continues-platinums-winning-streak/">commercial success</a> for the company, but also because the developers need another chance to do all the crazy action sequences they couldn't fit in the first game. Like, for instance, throwing a church at a dragon. Wait, they did that in <em>Bayonetta</em>? How about riding a motorcycle in space? Really, that too? Well, then ... we're stumped.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/19/sega-wants-to-sequel-ise-bayonetta-avp-alpha-protocol/">Sega: we can 'sequel-ise' Bayonetta, AvP, Alpha Protocol</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Mar 2010 16:00:00 EST. There's no doubt about it -- Q-Games head Dylan Cuthbert is very much interested in making more content for the latest in the <em>PixelJunk</em> series of games, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-shooter">PixelJunk Shooter</a></em>. When he spoke recently to <a href="http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/702370/Reaction-Time-Q-Games-Reflects-On-Their-Latest-Downloadable-PixelJunk-Shooter.html">G4TV</a>, Cuthbert said, "for <em>PixelJunk Shooter</em> we still have a ton of ideas on the drawing board and the engine has lots of potential we want to use before moving onto our next idea." He also teased the possibility of a full-on sequel, front-loading his last statement with, "normally sequels are just a re-hashing of the ideas in the original."<br />
<br />
Given the <em>PixelJunk</em>'s all-over-the-place history with <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/02/18/pixeljunk-monsters-expansion-pack-coming-soon/">DLC</a> and <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/09/28/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe-invading-psp-this-week/">re-releases</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-eden-encore">Encore</a> versions, we poked Cuthbert for clarification. When we asked which of the aforementioned options we might see for <em>PixelJunk Shooter</em>, Cuthbert told us: "It hasn't been decided yet, as it depends on how much content we end up making. Whatever we end up making, though, it will be even better than the first installment with loads of new stuff. (Obviously I know what some of that stuff is, but I can't say -- all I can say is that fans will be extremely pleased.)" So, there you have it, folks! We're gonna see ... umm ... <em>something else</em> from <em>Shooter</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/09/q-games-dylan-cuthbert-taking-aim-at-more-pixeljunk-shooter/">Q-Games' Dylan Cuthbert taking aim at more PixelJunk Shooter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Feb 2010 13:15:00 EST. The initially Xbox 360-exclusive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bioshock"><em>BioShock</em></a> was one of the major salvos in the ongoing console wars, waged on message boards and comment sections everywhere (including right here on this very site). Speaking with <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/2k-marin-the-console-wars-are-a-bit-silly--162826.phtml">Destructoid</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bioshock-2"><em>BioShock 2</em></a> producer Jordan Thomas expressed hope that the multi-platform sequel -- which launches today -- doesn't play a similarly divisive role. According to Thomas, "platform partisanship" is just silly and it "seems to flood the critical channels and drown out other creative discourse."<br />
<br />
Which sounds about right -- whenever a piece of news comes up that swings even close to the differences between the various consoles, the discussion usually degenerates into the same old arguments, and new and more interesting issues get drowned out like Andrew Ryan's old city. 2K Marin didn't ask in so many words, but we will: Would you kindly all just get along?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/09/2k-marin-console-wars-drown-out-creative-discourse/">2K Marin: Console wars 'drown out creative discourse'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Feb 2010 04:00:00 EST. According to a second-hand report from <a href="http://www.thelostgamer.com/2010/01/18/david-cage-wont-do-a-sequel-to-heavy-rain/">TheLostGamer</a>, the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK contains a concrete answer from Quantic Dream founder David Cage about the possibility of a sequel to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/heavy-rain"><em>Heavy Rain</em></a>. "I don't want to do a sequel because I've said what I had to say about these characters and this story," Cage explained, later adding, "honestly, I have nothing else to say."<br />
<br />
If Quantic Dream wants <em>Heavy Rain</em> to provide a cinematic experience, it certainly makes sense not to drag the proceedings out over the course of a few games. Besides, it would be simply unfeasible for <em>Heavy Rain 2</em> to import <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/14/heavy-rain-preview/">every single decision</a> you made in first game. How's it supposed to remember every time we chose to juggle, watch TV and eat sandwiches instead of searching for our poor, kidnapped child?<br />

<span class="text_article_body">Platinum Games' Shigenori Nishikawa, the director on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/madworld"><em>MadWorld</em></a> for the Wii, has told <a href="http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/article.php?id=14462">Official Nintendo Magazine</a> that he wouldn't mind taking a second crack at the violent Wii game. </span><span class="text_article_body"> "I think MadWorld was very well received and was acknowledged for its innovative graphical style and gameplay," Nishikawa said in Friday's upcoming issue. "We would definitely be interested in making a sequel in the future."<br />
<br />
Of course, you might have a tough time believing that Sega would also be on board. The company has said <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/04/sega-probably-not-making-more-hardcore-wii-games/">it would probably not</a> be interested in more mature Wii games, which means Platinum Games would have to shop around for a new publisher first.<br />
<br />
Psst, we may know <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ubisoft">a publisher</a> that isn't afraid to put out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/no-more-heroes-2-desperate-struggle">unique, mature games</a> on the Wii.<br />

Would it be possible to use Dante Alighieri's spinning corpse in oil derricks, as as a sort of fleshy drill, or perhaps to power a large centrifuge? That might be a real opportunity if <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dantes-inferno">Dante's Inferno</a> </em>executive producer Jonathan Knight gets to make a follow-up to his forthcoming adaptation, a hope he elaborated on for <a href="http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/701258/Dantes-Inferno-Producer-Knows-Sequel-Would-Be-Difficult-Awaits-Challenge.html">G4</a>.<br />
<br />
There's a hitch though: While Knight knows that EA will want a sequel to the game if it performs well, he's not sure that the follow up in <em>The Divine Comedy</em>, <em>Purgatorio</em>, will lend itself as well to a game. <br />
<br />
... So Visceral can turn one of the great literary works into a game about a scythe-wielding maniac fighting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/25/tgs-2009-hands-on-with-dantes-inferno-in-the-land-of-the-lust/">nipple-born monsters</a>, but making a game about the seven-layer Mount of Purgatory that ends in Earthly Paradise is beyond it? Really?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/14/dantes-inferno-producer-hopes-for-sequel-despite-challenges/">Dante's Inferno producer hopes for sequel, despite challenges</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Dec 2009 19:00:00 EST. If you build it, they will come -- mostly for the loot. That's how <em>Borderlands</em> creative director Mike Neumann candidly describes the possibility of a sequel to his game. "Yes, I can probably confirm that there's a chance of a <em>Borderlands 2</em> ," he told <a href="http://www.vg247.com/2009/11/11/interview-gearbox-on-borderlands-2-pitchfords-valve-remarks-and-tons-more/">VG247</a> with a chuckle. "I mean, with anything, especially a new IP, if people want more and you can make more, and everybody can make money and do good business there, it obviously makes really good sense to do that."<br /><br />An unexpectedly large number of people thought it made really good sense to purchase the colorful, FPS-RPG hybrid. Neumann jokingly admits surprise at seeing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/21/borderlands-shortages-reported-gearbox-responds/">stores running out of stock</a>, even though "it certainly doesn't suck to be the people who made the game you can't keep in stock." <br /><br />Though plans for a sequel have yet to manifest outside of the water cooler area -- Gearbox is currently grinding through <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/09/borderlands-dlc-available-november-24-on-ps3-xbox-360/"><em>Borderlands</em> DLC</a> -- Neumann believes the "praise and love" for the franchise will make that first decision easier. "So yeah, if everything makes sense, <em>Borderlands 2</em> seems like a no-brainer to me."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/11/to-borderlands-director-a-sequel-seems-like-a-no-brainer/">To Borderlands director, a sequel 'seems like a no-brainer'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Nov 2009 15:30:00 EST. In a story about the scarier games (it's almost Halloween, don'tchaknow?), <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSTRE59T0F020091030?pageNumber=2&amp;virtualBrandChannel=11604">Reuters</a> mentioned two things we thought would be good for this website we got going here. First, there's Capcom's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a>, which Reuters reports has managed to sell 1.94 million copies in the US, according to NPD Group figures.<br />
<br />
The second part of the Reuters story talks about EA and its spookier titles for 2009: <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead-2">Left 4 Dead 2</a> </em>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction"><em>Dead Space: Extraction</em></a>. While there isn't anything new on the former, in a discussion of the latter, Reuters revealed that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-2"><em>Dead Space 2</em></a> is apparently planned for a 2010 release, which would seem to confirm <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/30/dead-space-2-entering-production-in-next-few-months/">what we've heard</a> about the game so far.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/30/reuters-re5-sold-1-94m-in-us-dead-space-2-in-development-for-2/">Reuters: RE5 sold 1.94M in US; Dead Space 2 in development for 2010</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 30 Oct 2009 13:45:00 EST. When asked whether or not the <em>Assassin's Creed</em> series would be getting a third installment, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassins-creed-2"><em>Assassin's Creed 2</em></a> producer <span class="text_article_body">S&eacute;bastien Puel thinks the answer almost goes without saying. "</span><span class="text_article_body">I'm often asked if we're doing a third game after <em>ACII</em>... I mean, we could do 35 of these," he (hopefully) exaggerates to Xbox World 360 in the mag's latest issue (via <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=225343?cid=OTC-RSS&amp;attr=CVG-General-RSS">CVG</a>). When</span> the game's creative director told us the second game would be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/assassins-creed-2-will-end-with-a-cliffhanger/">ending with a cliffhanger</a>, we didn't know he meant we'd have to play 35 games to resolve it -- that's approximately 35,000 <em>assassinated fools</em>, by our estimations.<br /><br />Explaining his hyperbole further, Puel admits that a female assassin isn't out of the question, even confirming "We've had discussions on that very topic." Still, the Ubisoft producer doesn't want to switch the protagonist's gender without a good reason. LinkedIn continues to provide our <em>only link</em> to the status of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/09/dead-space-2-development-reconfirmed-by-linkedin-profile/">true sequel</a> to <em>Dead Space</em>. A recent <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/jobs?viewJob=&amp;jobId=743678">job posting</a> on the professional networking site, created by EA senior recruiter Jeff Ballard, reports, "The previous installment in the <em>Dead Space</em> franchise received numerous awards ... and the same core team is in place to create an even better follow up." The posting adds, "The game is in the later stages of pre-production, ready for production in the next few months, with many of the navigational and combat mechanics in place."<br /><br />With the point-n-shoot spin-off, <em>Dead Space Extraction,</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/28/now-playing-september-28-october-4-2009/#top">releasing this week</a> for Wii, confirmation that the core-series sequel (expected for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC) will soon roll into production phase comes as welcome news to fans looking for the franchise to stay the <em>traditional</em> course. Hopefully, EA and developer Visceral Games' transmissions will continue to pick up from here on out.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://supererogatory.tumblr.com/post/200698776/with-games-like-dead-space-dead-space-extraction">superannuation</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/30/dead-space-2-entering-production-in-next-few-months/">Dead Space 2 entering production in 'next few months'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Sep 2009 12:20:00 EST. Don't fret -- Quantic Dream founder David Cage isn't planning on charging you for the ending to the studio's upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/heavy-rain"><em>Heavy Rain</em></a>. In <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/heavy_rain_sequels_and_prequels_possible_through_dlc.html">a recent interview with VideoGamer.com</a>, Cage explained that the game's eight to ten hour story was "a self-contained experience," but that Quantic is "talking with Sony at the moment about having maybe extra downloadable content, maybe with prequels or sequels about the characters." He added that players will most likely "get attached to some of them and will want to know them even better."<br />
<br />
We don't doubt Quantic Dream's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/indigo-prophecy">proven ability to tell captivating stories</a>, but we have one qualm with this statement -- what if all our characters <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/03/heavy-rain-no-game-over-just-game-endings/">get offed by the Origami Killer</a>? Sure, the prequels could ostensibly still work, but sequels starring <em>corpses</em> probably wouldn't be that interesting.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/26/quantic-dream-considering-dlc-sequels-prequels-for-heavy-rains/">Quantic Dream considering DLC sequels, prequels for Heavy Rain's characters</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Aug 2009 15:16:00 EST. We'll give you a moment to mentally prepare yourself. Are you sitting down?<br /><br />There's probably going to be a sequel. To the tenth <em>Tony Hawk</em> game*.<br /><br />Asked what else was happening at the company aside from development of the first <em>Ride</em>, Tsui said that "Obviously, we're very focused on getting this done, but being the creative types that we are, we're always writing up new game proposals and things we want to do." One of the new game proposals, of course, is <em>Ride 2</em>. "It's just a matter of timing," he said. "With <em>Tony Hawk: Ride</em> finishing up [we have to think about] the sequel to the game and where that fits into our schedules. It's a lot of juggling at this point."<br /><br />Of course, while Robomodo has just started thinking about the sequel, it's been an absolute <em>certainty</em> at Activision since, say, 1999, as have annual <em>Tony Hawk </em>sequels from now until they outnumber humans.<br /><br />*Not counting ports, handheld versions, or spinoffs like <em>Tony Hawk's Motion</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/14/tony-hawk-ride-sequel-already-planned/">Tony Hawk Ride sequel already planned</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Jul 2009 18:45:00 EST. Indie developer ACE Team has revealed it is hard at work on a sequel to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/IGF/">IGF</a>-nominated PC fighting-FPS, <em>Zeno Clash</em>. According to the dev's <a href="http://blogs.aceteam.cl/zenoclash/index.php?s=25fcddadbea5f53582aa065e8db5bd13&amp;showentry=34">latest blog entry</a>, the team has begun planning a Source-powered follow-up, which will continue the story of Ghat -- a hero with amnesia, banished for setting off an explosion that kills an influential Golem known as Father-Mother.<em><br /><br />Zeno Clash 2</em> will take place after the events of the first title. If you're a fan of first-person melee combat (a la <em>Breakdown</em> and/or <em>Condemned</em>), make sure to check out <em><a href="http://aceteam.cl/">Zeno Clash</a></em>. It's creative <em>and</em> insane.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/20/ace-team-announces-zeno-clash-sequel/">ACE Team announces Zeno Clash sequel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 May 2009 07:00:00 EST. You might want to sit down for this (you look tired). Judging by an update to Electronic Arts' Pratik Patel's <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/pub/1/654/660">LinkedIn page</a>, work on <em>Dead Space 2</em> is already underway. The engineering guru updated the page to include his role on the still as-yet-unannounced sequel, on which he is serving as the game's technical/development director. <br /><br />Hardly shocking, we know. Like a necromorph's limbs, any real doubt of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space/">Dead Space</a></em> getting a sophomore outing was severed with EA's own Frank Gibeau and Glenn Schofield <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/23/ea-dead-space-army-of-two-bad-company-sequels-in-the-works/">admitting as much</a> just days after the original's release. Nothing else is yet known, though with E3 just around the corner and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction">Dead Space Extraction</a></em> dismembering Wii shelves later this year, we don't expect to be retiring our trusty plasma cutter any time soon.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://supererogatory.tumblr.com/post/105307993/technical-director-electronic-arts-public">Supererogatory</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/09/dead-space-2-development-reconfirmed-by-linkedin-profile/">Dead Space 2 development reconfirmed by LinkedIn profile</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 09 May 2009 22:30:00 EST. Developer Microids confounded our meager brains on April Fool's with a gag <a href="http://www.microids.com/en/press/28/microids-launches-syberia-3-on-ps3-.html">press release</a> announcing a new point-and-click <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/syberia">Syberia</a> </em>adventure in which players on both the PlayStation 3 and PC would be able to "collaborate online." Now the French dev sends word that while that announcement may have been all in good fun, the company is working on a third <em>Syberia </em>game. However, president Emmanuel Olivier notes that the game's console hopes rest with Sony. <br /><br /><em>Syberia 3</em> will get a PC release "for sure," though Microids adds that, given rising development costs, a cross-platform release is "essential." That said, the company writes in a rather frank statement that Sony has a history of turning its nose up at the studio, having previously denied a U.S. release of several unnamed Microids titles including the PS2 version of the original <em>Syberia</em>. The developer calls out Sony for "censorship" and what it deems "exorbitant royalties" demanded by the console manufacturer as part of "the 'rule of the game' imposed by Sony." Microids has gone so far as to <a href="mailto:supporToSyberia3PS3@microids.com">launch a letter writing campaign</a> to get its game onto the PS3. We've reached out to Microids for more, if only to ask why it feels that Sony is the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/nintendo">only game</a> in <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/microsoft">town</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/17/microids-syberia-3-real-console-release-essential/">Microids: Syberia 3 real, console release 'essential'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Apr 2009 09:10:00 EST. We've got exciting news for the three of you that bought Sega's surprisingly wonderful strategy-RPG <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Valkyria%20Chronicles">Valkyria Chronicles</a></em> -- in the latest issue of Famitsu, Nonaka Ryutaro, the game's producer, said he was pleased with Japan's reception of the war-torn title, and expressed interest in <a href="http://ps3.kombo.com/article.php?artid=9755">creating another installment in the franchise</a>. However, considering the game was <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/12/15/unsurprisingly-low-valkyria-chronicles-sales/">a commercial flop</a> in North America and Europe, but absolutely beloved in Japan, where the title has spawned <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/03/12/first-images-of-valkyria-chronicles-anime/">an anime series</a> and reached Sony's Japanese Greatest Hits status, it's not certain that any prospective <em>Valkyria</em> sequels would find their way beyond Japan's borders. <br /><br />Still, while this isn't exactly a cold, hard confirmation of <em>Valkyria Chronicles 2</em>, but it should be enough to pique your interest, provided you bought the game, which Vegas odds would dictate <em>you did not</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/12/valkyria-chronicles-producer-interested-in-a-sequel/">Valkyria Chronicles producer interested in a sequel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 12 Apr 2009 14:00:00 EST. Every child wants a pet, be it a dog, cat, goldfish, or in the case of industry luminary David Crane's 1989 slice of Americana, <em>A Boy an His Blob</em>, a space alien with a hankering for sweets. Unlike E.T., however, Crane's extra terrestrial's fixation wasn't <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKYeBE8lTr4">Reese's Pieces</a>, but jelly beans of nearly every flavor imaginable, both delicious and gross. Not even Jelly Belly has a ketchup flavor in its <a href="http://www.jellybelly.com/fun_stuff/flavor_guides.aspx">confectionery arsenal</a>, not that that's any reason to boast.<br />
<br />
Now twenty years on <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/tag/a-boy-and-his-blob/"><em>A Boy and His Blob</em></a> is set to make its return. We recently caught up with Majesco exec Joe Sutton as well as WayForward director Sean Velasco -- and managed to even talk producer Robb Alvey down off a roller coaster to join the conversation -- to discover just what flavor of adventure we can expect out of the jelly bean-munching amoeba's hop onto the Wii.<br />

Greetings Program. With a sequel to 80s nerdgasm <em>TRON </em>set to digitize theaters in a couple years, Disney Interactive Studios is already rumored to be working to put an adaptation of the upcoming film on the Game Grid. The news follows reports earlier this week of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/29/disney-interactive-hit-with-layoffs-consolidates-studios/">layoffs and studio shrinkage</a> at Disney's video game arm, though according to <a href="http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2009/01/disney-interactive-starting-new-tron-game-while-it-lays-off-staff.html">Variety</a> this hasn't stopped the company from talking to potential game developers about the project.<br /><br />Master Control has not yet revealed what the rumored game will be like. Perhaps it will be a shooter like Monolith's <em>TRON 2.0</em>, or simply let us dress up a grizzled Jeff Bridges in a variety of rotoscoped outfits. End of line.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/31/rumor-disney-interactive-begins-work-on-new-tron-game/">Rumor: Disney Interactive begins work on new TRON game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 31 Jan 2009 11:00:00 EST. <br />Last year's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/25/metareview-de-blob/"><em>de Blob</em></a> found a squishy, colorful place in all of our hearts and, more importantly, sold enough copies to make THQ keen on a sequel. Speaking to IGN, a representative for the publisher expressed pleasure at <em>de Blob</em>'s performance worldwide, promising that we can "expect to see more of <em>de Blob</em> in the future." We'll hold you to that, THQ.<br /><br />Something else of interest in IGN's article: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/npd">NPD</a> data shows that <em>de Blob</em> sold 230,000 copies in North America between September 22 and the end of 2008, whereas <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/wii-fanboy-review-wario-land-shake-it/"><em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em></a> moved only 150,000 copies in the exact same period. <em>de Blob</em> isn't just a third-party "core" success -- it's even outsold a rival title from Nintendo!<br /><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=14493105&amp;postcount=1">NeoGAF</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/24/de-sequel/">de Sequel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 24 Jan 2009 17:30:00 EST.
