It appears Capcom is getting used to tapping the veins of semi-altruistic gamers. Its latest idea: "Street Fighter Fights Hunger." In conjunction with GameStop, the publisher will hold a food drive at the EVO Street Fighter IV US National Championship Finals, to be held at the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco on April 18 at 7 pm PT.

Food items will be given to the Second Harvest Food Bank and donations should be made in the form of canned goods or "nominal donations." Oh, you want to know what'll actually go down at this public event beyond the charitable stuff? Check out the details after the break.

Street Fighter IV has come out of its corner with a Hundred Hand Slap, as worldwide shipments of the title have reached two million units. Publisher Capcom did not provide any regional information to IGN about where all those little boxes went, but we're sure the company used a few to replenish the stock in Japan, following reports that the game sold out during its launch week.

The good news is that retailers purchased a couple million copies and now Capcom doesn't have SF IV just sitting in a warehouse somewhere. Are two million (and more) of you ready to buy our favorite fighting game this generation?

Street Fighter IV Producer Yoshinori Ono has teased the inclusion of Dee Jay and T. Hawk in the fighter to Famitsu, reports IGN. Ono apparently stated that incomplete 3D models were created of the characters, and the staff even planned out T. Hawk's combat, but no explanation was given for why the pair didn't make the four-quel. The characters are the only two fighters from Super Street Fighter II Turbo missing in SF IV.

Ono expressed that if there's enough support from the fans, the characters will be added at a later date. It's not clear if that would be DLC for the current game, or if they'd be added in a later iteration, like, Super Alpha Street Fighter IV Turbo Remix Deluxe.

Everything old is new again, as Street Fighter IV attempts to reinvigorate the fighter genre. The title may not be friendly to newcomers, but do the Street Fighter faithful really care? Just give them a worthy adversary, a dark room, a proper controller, a quarter and they'll be as contented as Chun Li's Thighmaster.

Retailer Game Crazy will be holding Street Fighter IV tournaments at 20 stores across the nation, with $500 as the prize for those who hadouken to glory at each location. The single-elimination, one-on-one tournament begins at 7PM on Friday, February 20. This is not to be confused with the national GameStop/EVO tournament, starting the following day.

There is no cost to enter and there is no pre-registration; competitors must be at least 13 years of age. There is also no limit on the number of participants allowed at each location, so these things could potentially go on for quite some time. We've asked Game Crazy to clarify which console it plans to use and whether players will be allowed to bring their own controllers (long shot, we know, but it's worth asking). The full list of venues can be found after the break.

Update 2: Game Crazy will be using the MadCatz 360 Arcade Fightstick for the tournament. Second place winner, as well as one randomly drawn participant, will also win those controllers at the end of the tournament.

While fighting game fans know they must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance, players in Japan will soon be able to try from the comfort of their couch. Dengeki Online reports that Capcom plans to release the console versions of Street Fighter IV in February 2009, with a feature-length SFIV anime directed by Akira animator Koji Morimoto given away as a preorder bonus.

Interestingly, while this announcement currently only pertains to Japan, it echoes an earlier report which indicated that the game and its console-specific roster would "definitely" hurricane kick its way to Western audiences sometime this winter, most likely alongside the upcoming Chun-Li-focused Street Fighter film. Could a global launch announcement be far behind?

Capcom has stated that the console version of Street Fighter IV will "definitely" be available in North America this winter (with the European release at "roughly" the same time), reports Gamespot. Now, if we're going to get technical on the meaning of "winter," we're guessing an early 2009 release, as Capcom is wont to do. This is in line with a previous statement by the producer of the Street Fighter movie that the game would release around the same time as the movie (currently expected Feb. 27, 2009)

The console version of the game should be an expanded experience from the arcade version, which can currently be found in Japan and in the phantom zone where arcades still exist outside of the island nation.

Street Fighter IV is unlikely to have exclusive console-specific characters (like Soul Calibur IV) when it releases next year, the game's producer tells Videogamer. Yoshinori Ono believes the idea of exclusive characters is unfair -- and that extends to "downloadable characters" as well.

Yoshinori expresses that this is only his "policy," however, so we won't rule out the influence of the Capcom overlords. SF IV is expected on consoles around the time the Street Fighter movie releases in early 2009.

These posters are such beauties, and we want them. Unfortunately, they are in Japan. A black one with an orange IV logo features Ryu with new characters Crimson Viper, Abel, El Fuerte and Rufus. An orange one with a black IV logo features old favorites Guile, Ken and Chun-Li. Capcom-Unity blogger Kramez has two pictures of the Street Fighter IV posters held up by SFIV producer Yoshinori Ono. Earlier last week Famistu confirmed the console versions of Street Fighter IV would feature exclusive online play (shocking, no online for arcades? Joke.) and characters, two of which have been revealed to be Bruce Lee look-a-like Fei Long and SF inside joke, Dan.

This week Capcom has launched a new promotional website for Street Fighter IV. Offering the latest 'Epic' trailer and links to the blog for Street Fighter IV and the upcoming Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li movie, the site shows off little in the way of new content. Interestingly enough the site offers two pre-order methods for Street Fighter IV. One allows gamers to order directly from Capcom while the other is linked back to GameStop who is offering a collectible art book with purchase and lists a ship date of February 2, 2009. While the date may change, it give us a general idea of when to expect the anticipated fighter.

We're really intrigued by Street Fighter IV, but not nearly as intrigued as we are by the trailer released by Capcom at Captivate08. Reminiscent of a fan-made YouTube video, the latest trailer for Street Fighter IV plays out as Faith No More's hit-song, "Epic," blasts in the background. We never thought we'd see Street Fighter marketed that way. Either way, the footage looks solid and we can't wait to get some quality time with Capcom's best-selling franchise again. Wait, Jean Claude Van Damme played Guile didn't he? Guess no one knows how Street Fighter should be marketed!

A few days ago we reported a rumor that cited Street Fighter IV as an upcoming Xbox 360, PS3 and PC release--well they are rumors-no-more. Last night Capcom confirmed [via IGN] that the 2/3D fighter hybrid will land on next generation consoles as well as Windows-based PCs, continuing the company's recent support of the platform (as in Devil May Cry 4 and Lost Planet PC releases). Rumor has it that Capcom accidentally revealed the release schedule and platforms for the upcoming, official, fourth installment of Street Fighter. According to a story on French gaming site Jeuxvideo, Capcom inadvertently let the information slip on a press site that scheduled the 2/3D fighter hybrid for a winter release on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

While the general consensus is that Street Fighter IV would make its way to next-gen platforms, a PC release is a surprise. While we could speculate that the rumor has weight due to Capcom's recent admiration for the PC platform (with Devil May Cry 4 and Lost Planet releases), the well-known similarities in development for Xbox 360 and PC titles and USB being the primary input on all next-gen controllers, we're going to remind everything this one is just a rumor for now.

On a side note, with the popularity of the Cybercafé in the Eastern market a PC release would make sense. Just saying!
