It appears Capcom is getting used to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/04/capcom-hosts-blood-drive-at-re5-event-in-la/">tapping the veins</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/21/resident-evil-5-blood-drive-captured-on-video-lampooned/">semi-altruistic</a> gamers. Its latest idea: "Street Fighter Fights Hunger." In conjunction with GameStop, the publisher will hold a food drive at the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/03/evo-2009-championship-series-coming-to-las-vegas-in-july?icid=sphere_blogsmith_inpage_joystiqnintendo">EVO</a> <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/sf-iv"><em>Street Fighter IV</em></a> US National Championship Finals, to be held at the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco on April 18 at 7 pm PT.<br /><br />Food items will be given to the Second Harvest Food Bank and donations should be made in the form of canned goods or "nominal donations." Oh, you want to know what'll actually go down at this public event beyond the charitable stuff? Check out the details after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/08/san-frans-sfiv-championships-to-host-food-drives/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>San Fran's SFIV championships to host food drive</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/08/san-frans-sfiv-championships-to-host-food-drives/">San Fran's SFIV championships to host food drive</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Apr 2009 16:45:00 EST. <em>Street Fighter IV</em> has come out of its corner with a Hundred Hand Slap, as worldwide shipments of the title have reached two million units. Publisher <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/capcom">Capcom</a> did not provide any regional information to <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/956/956125p1.html">IGN</a> about where all those little boxes went, but we're sure the company used a few to replenish the stock in Japan, following reports that the game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/13/street-fighter-iv-sells-86k-copies-first-day-in-japan-capcom-sa/">sold out during its launch week</a>.<br /><br />The good news is that retailers purchased a couple million copies and now Capcom doesn't have <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/street-fighter-iv">SF IV</a> just sitting in a warehouse somewhere. Are two million (and more) of you ready to buy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/joystiq-review-street-fighter-iv/#continued">our favorite fighting game this generation</a>?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/23/street-fighter-iv-ships-two-million-units-worldwide/">Street Fighter IV ships two million units worldwide</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Feb 2009 09:40:00 EST. <em>Street Fighter IV</em> Producer Yoshinori Ono has teased the inclusion of Dee Jay and T. Hawk in the fighter to <em>Famitsu</em>, reports <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/954/954936p1.html">IGN</a>. Ono apparently stated that incomplete 3D models were created of the characters, and the staff even planned out T. Hawk's combat, but no explanation was given for why the pair didn't make the four-quel. The characters are the only two fighters from <em>Super Street Fighter II Turbo </em>missing in <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/super-street-fighter-iv"><em>SF IV</em></a><em>.</em><br /><br />Ono expressed that if there's enough support from the fans, the characters will be added at a later date. It's not clear if that would be DLC for the current game, or if they'd be added in a later iteration, like, <em>Super Alpha Street Fighter IV Turbo Remix Deluxe</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/street-fighter-iv-producer-teases-future-inclusion-of-dee-jay-t/">Street Fighter IV producer teases future inclusion of Dee Jay, T. Everything old is new again, as <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/street-fighter-iv">Street Fighter IV</a></em> attempts to reinvigorate the fighter genre. The title may not be friendly to newcomers, but do the <em>Street Fighter</em> faithful really care? Just give them a worthy adversary, a dark room, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/14/mad-catz-talks-supply-demand-issues-of-sfiv-fightstick/">proper controller</a>, <strike>a quarter</strike> and they'll be as contented as Chun Li's Thighmaster.<br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.giantbomb.com/street-fighter-iv/61-20456/reviews/">Giant Bomb</a> (<strong>100/100</strong>): "My only real complaint about <em>Street Fighter IV</em> is that the trial mode represents a missed opportunity to help brand-new players get into the game, and perhaps the genre, as well. I only know what I know about <em>Street Fighter </em>because I've been playing and watching it since the early 1990s. Will it take 20 years for new players to acquire the same bits of knowledge that I have? The good news is that <em>Street Fighter IV</em> is a game so great that playing it for that long doesn't immediately sound out of the question."</li>
    <li><a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/953/953811p1.html">IGN UK</a> (<strong>95/100</strong>): "Regardless, <em>Street Fighter IV</em> is no less than the new standard for beat-'em-ups. It's a triumphant return for the series after an eight year hiatus and is a seamless blend of the old and new, at once accessible to lapsed pugilists while being nuanced enough for the dedicated core to wallow in its depths. What's more, Street Fighter IV takes an aging template and makes it fresh once more, offering a revival in every sense of the word."</li>
    <li>Game Informer (<strong>93/100</strong>): "A distillation of everything the genre does right. It delivers the intensity of competition and the thrill of victory, all through elegant techniques that are easy to learn and difficult to master. <em>Street Fighter IV</em> is more than mere nostalgia - it's the best thing to happen to fighting games in years." [Mar 2009, p.82] </li>
    <li><a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/gamereview.php?id=5667">GameTrailers</a> (<strong>92/100</strong>): "Fighting games have long been out of the spotlight, and <em>Street Fighter IV</em> basically carries the future of the entire genre. It refuses to make itself accessible, doling out tough love in place of true tutorials or simplified control schemes, but by proving to be deep and fundamentally enjoyable, the series has once again proven itself worthy of attention."</li>
    <li><a href="http://origin.avclub.com/articles/street-fighter-iv,23796/">Onion AV Club</a> <strong>(80/100)</strong> "Once fans have relived their virtual-martial-arts glory days; once they've defeated Seth, the poorly named final boss; once the patina of nostalgia has worn off, most will wonder whether they needed to spend $60 on a game they already own ... except for <em>Street Fighter </em>completionists, <em>Street Fighter IV</em> merits, at best, an afternoon rental.</li>

Retailer Game Crazy will be holding <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/street-fighter-iv">Street Fighter IV</a></em> tournaments at 20 stores across the nation, with $500 as the prize for those who hadouken to glory at each location. The single-elimination, one-on-one tournament begins at 7PM on Friday, February 20. This is not to be confused with the national GameStop/<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/03/evo-2009-championship-series-coming-to-las-vegas-in-july/">EVO</a> tournament, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/05/a-new-street-fighter-iv-national-tournament-appears/">starting the following day</a>.<br /><br />There is no cost to enter and there is no pre-registration; competitors must be at least 13 years of age. There is also no limit on the number of participants allowed at each location, so these things could potentially go on for quite some time. We've asked Game Crazy to clarify which console it plans to use and whether players will be allowed to bring their own controllers (long shot, we know, but it's worth asking). While fighting game fans know they must defeat <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheng_Long">Sheng Long</a> to stand a chance, players in Japan will soon be able to try from the comfort of their couch. <a href="http://news.dengeki.com/elem/000/000/117/117796/">Dengeki Online</a> reports that Capcom plans to release the console versions of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/street-fighter-iv"><em>Street Fighter IV</em></a> in February 2009, with a feature-length <em>SFIV</em> anime directed by <em>Akira </em>animator Koji Morimoto given away as a preorder bonus. <br /><br />Interestingly, while this announcement currently only pertains to Japan, it echoes an earlier report which indicated that the game and its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/30/fei-long-dan-join-street-fighter-iv-home-roster/">console</a>-<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/22/cammy-kicks-high-in-street-fighter-iv-home-versions/">specific</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/sakura-joins-street-fighter-ivs-console-exclusive-cast/">roster</a> would <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/23/capcom-street-fighter-iv-definitely-out-this-winter/">"definitely"</a> hurricane kick its way to Western audiences sometime this winter, most likely <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/street-fighter-iv-releasing-alongside-movie-in-2009-says-films/">alongside</a> the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/23/behold-kristin-kreuk-as-chun-li/">Chun-Li-focused <em>Street Fighter</em> film</a>. Capcom has stated that the console version of <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/street-fighter-iv">Street Fighter IV</a></em> will "definitely" be available in North America this winter (with the European release at "roughly" the same time), reports <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6199889.html?part=rss&amp;tag=gs_news&amp;subj=6199889">Gamespot</a>. Now, if we're going to get technical on the meaning of "winter," we're guessing an early 2009 release, as Capcom is wont to do. This is in line with a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/street-fighter-iv-releasing-alongside-movie-in-2009-says-films/">previous statement</a> by the producer of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/street-fighter-movie/"><em>Street Fighter</em> movie</a> that the game would release around the same time as the movie (currently expected Feb. 27, 2009)<br /><br />The console version of the game should be an expanded experience from the arcade version, which can currently be found in Japan and in the phantom zone where arcades still exist outside of the island nation.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/23/capcom-street-fighter-iv-definitely-out-this-winter/">Capcom: Street Fighter IV 'definitely' out this winter </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Oct 2008 16:30:00 EST. There is little doubt that fighting games and arcades go hand-in-hand, so the death of arcades should mean the death of the genre, right? No! Thanks to the advent of online competition, fighting games have been given a new lease on life. One of the many fighting titles still battling for console attention is the upcoming <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Street-Fighter-IV/">Street Fighter IV</a></em> from Capcom. Bringing the series back to the quarter-stealing roots of <em>Street Fighter II</em>, <em>SFIV</em> is one of our most anticipated titles of ... whenever <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Capcom/">Capcom</a> decides to release it!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/11/tgs-08-street-fighter-iv-extended-trailer/">TGS 08: Street Fighter IV extended trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 11 Oct 2008 12:45:00 EST. <em>Street Fighter IV</em> is unlikely to have exclusive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/18/vader-and-yoda-square-off-in-new-soul-calibur-iv-trailer/">console-specific characters</a> (like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Soul-Calibur-IV/"><em>Soul Calibur IV</em></a><em>)</em> when it releases next year, the game's producer tells <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/26-08-2008-9166.html">Videogamer</a>. Yoshinori Ono believes the idea of exclusive characters is unfair -- and that extends to "downloadable characters" as well.<br /><br />Yoshinori expresses that this is only his "policy," however, so we won't rule out the influence of the Capcom overlords. <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/street-fighter-iv">SF IV</a></em> is expected on consoles around the time the <em>Street Fighter</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/street-fighter-iv-releasing-alongside-movie-in-2009-says-films/">movie releases in early 2009</a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/">Street Fighter IV</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337097"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/guile_006-252009-37_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337096"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/dan_004-252009-26_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337095"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/cviper_001-252009-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337094"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/balrog_005-252009-49_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337093"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/seth_004-252009-8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/26/street-fighter-iv-producer-console-specific-characters-not-very-fair/">Street Fighter IV producer: Console-specific characters 'not very fair'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Aug 2008 15:30:00 EST. These posters are such beauties, and we want them. Unfortunately, they are in Japan. A black one with an orange IV logo features Ryu with new characters <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Crimson_Viper.png">Crimson Viper</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Street_Fighter_IV_Abel.png">Abel</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:El_Fuerte.png">El Fuerte</a> and Rufus. Joke.) and characters, two of which have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/30/fei-long-dan-join-street-fighter-iv-home-roster/">been revealed</a> to be Bruce Lee look-a-like Fei Long and <em>SF</em> inside joke, Dan.<br /><br />This week Capcom has launched a new <a href="http://www.streetfighter.com/flash/">promotional website</a> for <em>Street Fighter IV</em>. Offering the latest '<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/01/street-fighter-iv-its-an-epic-trailer/">Epic</a>' trailer and links to the blog for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Street-Fighter-IV/">Street Fighter IV</a></em> and the upcoming <em>Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li</em> <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0891592">movie</a>, the site shows off little in the way of new content. Interestingly enough the site offers two pre-order methods for <em>Street Fighter IV</em>. One allows gamers to order directly from Capcom while the other is linked back to <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?Product%5FID=71572">GameStop</a> who is offering a collectible art book with purchase and lists a ship date of February 2, 2009. While the date may change, it give us a general idea of when to expect the anticipated fighter.<br /><br />[via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/30/street-fighter-iv-home-port-to-include-new-characters-online-pl/">Joystiq</a> &amp; <a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2008/06/01/street-fighter-iv-web-site-launched-possible-release-date/">Big Download</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/street-fighter-iv-new-site-possible-street-date/">Street Fighter IV: Console exclusives, new site and possible release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Jun 2008 14:00:00 EST. Reminiscent of a fan-made YouTube video, the latest trailer for <em>Street Fighter IV</em> plays out as Faith No More's hit-song, "Epic," blasts in the background. We never thought we'd see <em>Street Fighter</em> marketed that way. Either way, the footage looks solid and we can't wait to get some quality time with Capcom's best-selling franchise again. Wait, Jean Claude Van Damme played Guile didn't he? Guess no one knows how <em>Street Fighter</em> should be marketed!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/01/street-fighter-iv-its-an-epic-trailer/">Street Fighter IV: It's an 'Epic' trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 01 Jun 2008 10:00:00 EST. Last night Capcom confirmed [via <a href="http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/876/876865p1.html">IGN</a>] that the 2/3D fighter hybrid will land on next generation consoles as well as Windows-based PCs, continuing the company's recent support of the platform (as in<em> Devil May Cry</em> <em>4</em> and <em>Lost Planet PC releases</em>). More details regarding the title is expected at the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/31/capcom-kills-gamers-day-event-announces-captivate08-vegas/">Captivate08</a> event in Las Vegas. According to a story on French gaming site <a href="http://www.jeuxvideo.fr/street-fighter-playstation-xbox-360-actu-141056.html">Jeuxvideo</a>, Capcom inadvertently let the information slip on a press site that scheduled the 2/3D fighter hybrid for a winter release on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.<br /><br />While the general consensus is that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Street-Fighter-IV/">Street Fighter IV</a></em> would make its way to next-gen platforms, a PC release is a surprise. While we could speculate that the rumor has weight due to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Capcom/">Capcom's</a> recent admiration for the PC platform (with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/devil-may-cry-4">Devil May Cry 4</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lost-planet">Lost Planet</a></em> releases), the well-known similarities in development for Xbox 360 and PC titles and USB being the primary input on all next-gen controllers, we're going to remind everything this one is just a rumor for now.<br /><br />On a side note, with the popularity of the Cybercaf&eacute; in the Eastern market a PC release would make sense. Just saying!<br /><br />[via <a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2008/05/24/rumor-street-fighter-iv-hitting-pc/">Big Download</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/25/rumor-street-fighter-iv-uppercuts-xbox-360-pc-for-winter-relea/">Rumor: Street Fighter IV uppercuts Xbox 360, PC for winter release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 25 May 2008 12:00:00 EST.
