Waiting for <em>John Woo's Stranglehold</em> to hit store shelves is a bit like watching one of his movies; there's a lot of slow-motion, and plenty of bullets and destruction during the wait. We got our hands on the latest build at Sony's recent Gamers Day, and fired thousands of rounds in an effort to see how we were at controlling Chow Yun Fat.<br /><br />Now, if you haven't seen a John Woo film, you need to rush out and rent one right now. Since <em>Hard Boiled</em>, which is the prequel to this game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/ps3s-stranglehold-coming-with-woos-hard-boiled-in-hd/">comes on the Blu-ray disc</a>, we'd recommend <em>The Killer</em>. Both of 'em star Chow Yun Fat, tons of guns, and a lot of over-the-top action. Hong Kong action cinema at it's finest.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/stranglehold-ps3/">Stranglehold (PS3)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/stranglehold-ps3/#244706"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/screenshot_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/stranglehold-ps3/#244705"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/screenshot_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/stranglehold-ps3/#244704"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/screenshot_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/sgd-07-joystiq-hands-on-with-john-woos-stranglehold/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SGD '07: Joystiq hands-on with John Woo's Stranglehold</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/sgd-07-joystiq-hands-on-with-john-woos-stranglehold/">SGD '07: Joystiq hands-on with John Woo's Stranglehold</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 May 2007 20:26:00 EST. One of the things we were most eager to do at Sony's Gamers Day was to transport ourselves inside of the PlayStation Home world, and see what was going on. We finally got our chance after the crowds dissipated on the last day. We swooped in, grabbed the Sixaxis, and tried to find our bearings.<br /><br />While the PlayStation Home beta is going on right now, there weren't too many people wandering around, which is probably a good thing. For first timers, it sure would be hard to figure out what was happening with crowds walking through you, talking to you, and ... dancing. Yes, right now dancing is the most popular feature for groups to participate in, continuing the <span style="font-style: italic;">World of Warcraft </span>phenomenon of cutting a rug when you encounter other players.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/playstation-home/">PlayStation Home</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/playstation-home/#244730"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/home-virtual-psp-screenshot_013_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/playstation-home/#244729"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/home-virtual-psp-screenshot_012_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/playstation-home/#244728"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/home-virtual-psp-screenshot_014_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/playstation-home/#244727"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/home-theatre-screenshot_031_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/playstation-home/#244726"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/home-theatre-screenshot_028_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/22/joystiq-hands-on-playstation-home/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SGD '07: Joystiq hands-on with PlayStation Home</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/22/joystiq-hands-on-playstation-home/">SGD '07: Joystiq hands-on with PlayStation Home</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 May 2007 20:25:00 EST. With the lens carefully trained on his San Diego tan, Rohde's fired back with a little-known factoid, "Before we knew that <em>Wii Bowling</em> was coming out we were building [<em>High Velocity</em>], absolutely." <em>You sure about that, Scott? 'Cause Nintendo confirmed 'Bowling' back <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/14/wii-sports-to-include-tennis-baseball-golf-bowling-and-boxin/2" target="_blank">in September '06</a>.</em> "We started working on it, literally, right before <em>that</em> ... and we had a prototype up in place when [<em>Wii Sports</em>] came out," alleged Rohde.<br /><br />But why argue about who was first to the gimmick? Considering price, <em>Wii Sports </em>and <em>High Velocity</em> are categorically different. <em>Wii Sports</em> is free, but as a PSN title, <em>High Velocity</em> will likely cost in the $5-to-10 range (and planned expansion packs could balloon the total price). If Rohde's statements are accurate, then <em>High Velocity</em> will end up more akin to Rockstar's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tabletennis" target="_blank"><em>Table Tennis</em></a> or maybe the <em>Outlaw</em> sports series, as it will apparently feature a more robust physics engine than <em>Wii Sports</em> and pre-built unlockable characters. Wii's <em>Bowling</em> will ultimately be matched up against PlayStation Home's built-in bowling game, which is being developed separately from <em>High Velocity</em>, but, like the others, will probably incorporate motion controls.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/22/sonys-high-velocity-bowling-started-literally-right-before-ni/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sony's High Velocity Bowling started 'literally right before' Nintendo announced Wii Sports' Bowling</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/22/sonys-high-velocity-bowling-started-literally-right-before-ni/">Sony's High Velocity Bowling started 'literally right before' Nintendo announced Wii Sports' Bowling</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 May 2007 13:48:00 EST. One of the PSP games that we spent a little more time with than we should have at Sony's Gamers Day event last week was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/pursuit-force-dishing-out-extreme-justice-this-fall/"><em>Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice</em></a>. The game isn't leaps and bounds above the original title, but it's pretty addictive to jump onto each moving car and blast away at whatever you happen to be chasing. We're assuming that the "extreme" part in the title refers to the new four person multiplayer over ad hoc networks. There's 12 different vehicles in the new game, which should give everyone something to hop onto that suits their needs and / or desires. <br /><br />No word yet on if you can hijack one of your fellow player's modes of transport or not, but we imagine there will be a fair share of leaping back and forth going on. Those <em>Pursuit Force</em> cops sure are agile ... not to mention pretty liberal with the whole "we need to borrow your car" thing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/21/pursuit-force-sequel-allowing-four-players-to-jump-onboard/">Pursuit Force sequel allowing four players to jump onboard</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 May 2007 16:57:00 EST. Last week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sgd07/">Sony Gamer's Day</a> gave us the chance to sit down with a lot of different games, and one of the highest "must play this or else" on our list was <em>God of War</em> for PSP. It was the first game we spotted across the motion capture studio where the event was held, and we edged our way through the crowd, wishing we had the might of Zeus to part the waves and get there faster.<br /><br />Finally, there we were, sitting on a blindingly white couch, staring at the goodness that is <span style="font-style: italic;">God of War: Chains of Olympus</span> on one of Sony's massive screens. They had a PSP wired up to it, and although the image was cropped a bit on-screen, it made us want to blow up everything we play to that size. We studied the control diagram, noted that it was all very simple, and reached for the controller ... denied!<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/god-of-war-chains-of-olympus-psp/">God of War: Chains of Olympus (PSP)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/god-of-war-chains-of-olympus-psp/#244677"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/attica_dragon_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/god-of-war-chains-of-olympus-psp/#244678"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/attica_cyclops_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/god-of-war-chains-of-olympus-psp/#244679"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/attica_cyclops_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/god-of-war-chains-of-olympus-psp/#244680"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/attica_dragon_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/god-of-war-chains-of-olympus-psp/#313107"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/gow-coo-attica_basilisk_cs_182_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/21/joystiq-eyes-on-god-of-war-chains-of-olympus-for-psp/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq eyes-on God of War: Chains of Olympus for PSP</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/21/joystiq-eyes-on-god-of-war-chains-of-olympus-for-psp/">Joystiq eyes-on God of War: Chains of Olympus for PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 May 2007 15:32:00 EST. Compared to the interpretations we're constantly exposed to in modern forms of entertainment, certain aspects of our society can seem a little dull. We're generally not entertained by the sort of justice dished out in a court by some gavel-wielding grandpa, and have to turn to more ... extreme measures. <em>Pursuit Force</em> <a href="http://www.pspfanboy.com/2007/05/17/sgd-07-pursuit-force-extreme-justice/">returns</a> to the American PSP this Fall with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/17/pursuit-force-sequel-extreme-justice-on-psp-and-ps2/"><em>Extreme Justice</em></a>, putting the kibosh on criminals and encouraging your over-the-top cop to keep his limbs <em>outside </em>the vehicle at all times.<br /><br />Adding 3 more playable characters to the mix and a new array of vehicles to leap on, over and between in high-speed chases, <em>Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice</em> hopes to make good on the promise the original game showed but delivered in pieces. Let's hope it's transported in an armored van this time.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pursuit-force-extreme-justice-psp/">Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice (PSP)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pursuit-force-extreme-justice-psp/#317287"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/pursuitfoce-extemejustice_01-(8)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pursuit-force-extreme-justice-psp/#317286"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/pursuitfoce-extemejustice_01-(7)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pursuit-force-extreme-justice-psp/#317285"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/pursuitfoce-extemejustice_01-(6)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pursuit-force-extreme-justice-psp/#317284"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/pursuitfoce-extemejustice_01-(5)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pursuit-force-extreme-justice-psp/#317283"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/pursuitfoce-extemejustice_01-(4)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/pursuit-force-dishing-out-extreme-justice-this-fall/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pursuit Force dishing out Extreme Justice this Fall</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/pursuit-force-dishing-out-extreme-justice-this-fall/">Pursuit Force dishing out Extreme Justice this Fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 16:25:00 EST. The application for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/warhawk"><em>Warhawk</em></a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/warhawk-back-on-blu-ray-with-beta-and-bluetooth-headset/">beta</a> is available now. The beta is reportedly set to start next week, so you better sign up soon if you want a chance to get on some pre-final space shooting action.<br /><br />Our worrisome siblings at PS3 Fanboy <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/05/17/warhawk-beta-to-begin-next-week-sign-up-now/">fret</a> that the beta, initially announced only to members of the exclusive Game Advisory Panel and <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/05/11/warhawk-beta-starts-soon-and-you-are-not-getting-in/">the RLS</a>, will remain exclusive to the two aforementioned groups. The beta for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/home">PS Home</a> was predominantly GAP members and it appears the same situation might happen here. "I think the advent of a long awaited and quite frankly long overdue ability to deliver a downloadable service for the PSP will help us out a great deal," Tretton said during an appearance at <a target="_blank" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sgd07">Sony Gamers' Day</a>. "Hopefully we'll have it out there by the fall."<br /><br />Tretton gave no further insight into the proposed venture, leaving us to wonder if he was merely referring to SOE's <a target="_blank" href="http://www.pspfanboy.com/2007/05/10/station-launcher-to-bring-downloadable-movies-to-psp/">Station Launcher</a>, a forthcoming service that will offer downloads of PSP-formatted movies directly to the handheld device (via PC). Of course, there would be obvious benefits to launching a portable counterpart of PS3's PlayStation Store, complete with PS1 games, demos, and trailers -- and, dare we suggest, full e-Distribution titles. <p>Sony revolutionizes the games industry yet again by introducing a sports game that detects your motion through the controller! Instead of pressing buttons, one can hold the controller and move it as if it were a real bowling ball. We love the idea!<br /><br />But in all honesty, we think that the SIXAXIS may not be as well-suited for this type of gameplay as <em>other</em> consoles. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/high-velocity-bowling-is-bowling-its-way-onto-ps3/">Joystiq</a>'s Kevin Kelly tried the game, and as we suspected, didn't have the easiest time with the game: "You literally flip the controller on its side, hold it with your thumb between the analog sticks, and then sweep your arm gracefully along an arc while holding and releasing one of the buttons to send your ball down the alley. Sound simple? Well, it is and it isn't. Holding the SIXAXIS like that feels really, really weird. It's like we're wired or programmed to hold that controller with both hands, and doing something like that makes our gamer genes cry out in pain. Although, in all honesty, once we got the hang of it, it wasn't all that bad."</p>
<p>So while not truly revolutionary, <em>High Velocity Bowling</em> should offer some motion-sensing fun for the Wii-less. Because it's coming through the PLAYSTATION Network, this experiment in copycat design should, at the very least, be affordable.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgd-07-wii-sports-like-bowling-game-for-psn/">SGD '07: Wii Sports-like bowling game for PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 10:30:00 EST. Sony's Gamer Day 2007 event in San Diego drew one of the most anticipated PS3 titles out of hiding, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/littlebigplanet"><em>LittleBigPlanet</em></a>. Out of everything being shown off here, this was what we were most looking forward to. They only had one demo station set up, and we couldn't shoot video of it, but ... wow.<br /><br />The extreme amount of detail in this game, down to the stitching on the characters and the photorealism of some of the painted cardboard backdrops is amazing. It's oddly juxtaposed with the fact that it feels like such a little kid's game ... but the kind of little kid's game you can never put down, sort of like Lite-Brite or Barrel of Monkeys.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet/">LittleBigPlanet</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet/#816554"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/littlebigplanet-sackgirl_hooded-copy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet/#814788"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/littlebigplanet-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet/#901774"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/littlebigplanet-logo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet/#814794"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/littlebigplanet-croc_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet/#901775"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/littlebigplanet-logo-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgd-07-joystiq-hands-on-with-littlebigplanet/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SGD '07: Joystiq hands-on with LittleBigPlanet</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgd-07-joystiq-hands-on-with-littlebigplanet/">SGD '07: Joystiq hands-on with LittleBigPlanet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 09:00:00 EST. D3 Publisher is sending PSP owners more puzzle fun this summer. One part <em>Cube</em>, another part <em>Hot Brain</em> -- this puzzler attempts to find the "Practical Intelligence Quotient" of its players. The game keeps track of the moves and speed of the player and uses Infrastructure mode to compare the intelligence of the player to others around the country, and the world. (It's developed by Professor Masuo Koyasu of Kyoto University ... so it has to be good!)<br /><br /><em>PQ2</em> will offer more than 250 puzzles for players to solve. And, if that weren't enough, a level editor will allow users to create their own puzzles for sharing through Infrastructure. Finally, the game wants to share the love: the game supports Game Sharing so that friends can experience ten levels of brain-squeezing fun.<br /><br />Check out our screenshots below. The game releases June 12th.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pq2/">PQ2</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pq2/#259092"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/two-puzzle-movers_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pq2/#259091"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/step-down_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pq2/#259088"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/step-down-girl_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pq2/#259087"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/puzzle-test_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pq2/#259086"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/moving-blocks_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgd-07-practical-intelligence-quotient-2/">SGD '07: Practical Intelligence Quotient 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 07:30:00 EST. <div align="left">Straight from this week's Sony's Gamer's Day comes three beautiful looking shots of the PlayStation 3 version of <em>Rainbow Six: Vegas</em>. We've been waiting for this title for a while, can't wait for it personally. I just hope that they're able to keep the online play as good as the 360's play is. As usual, the screenshots look excellent. Look for this game on shelves on the 12th of June. <br /></div>

Or as we like to call it -- <em>God(dess) of War III: In True HD</em>. Okay, all jokes aside, there is simply no denying that the PS3's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/heavenlysword">Heavenly Sword</a> </em>is a beautiful game. The characters, the weapons, the settings, and even the effects like dust and blood are visually stunning. They'll blast onto your retinas and curve your mouth into an "O" face that'll last awhile. Yes, it's really that pretty.<br /><br />The level demonstrated during the Sony Gamer's Day event happens right after what was already seen on an episode of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/05/todays-most-hero-es-ic-game-video-heavenly-sword-on-nbcs-her">Heroes</a></em>. The game's protagonist, Nariko, starts running down a massive rope towards some enemies. They aren't too thrilled with this, so they start chopping the ropes off the platform they're tied to. This forces you to pull off some fairly easy <em>Dragon's Lair</em> type moves as the screen tells you when to run faster or jump to a side. Eventually she makes it down and lands smack dab in the middle of a fight, which is what we were waiting for.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/heavenly-sword-ps3/">Heavenly Sword (PS3)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/heavenly-sword-ps3/#244550"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/hs-003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/heavenly-sword-ps3/#244551"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/hs-001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/heavenly-sword-ps3/#244552"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/hs-004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/heavenly-sword-ps3/#244553"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/hs-002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/heavenly-sword-ps3/#244554"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/hs-005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgd-07-joystiq-hands-on-with-heavenly-sword/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SGD '07: Joystiq hands-on with Heavenly Sword</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgd-07-joystiq-hands-on-with-heavenly-sword/">SGD '07: Joystiq hands-on with Heavenly Sword</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 07:00:00 EST. The first ever <em>Naruto</em> game to be developed exclusively for US and European markets is <em>Ultimate Ninja Heroes</em>, a new PSP-exclusive fighting game. This brawler will feature 20 characters, all of which can be customized through collectible Parameter Power-Up Points. <br /><br />Like the manga that inspired the game, players can tackle various missions which will challenge their ninja skills. Being successful can lead your character up the ninja ranks -- ultimately leading them to the ultimate Hokage position. While we wait for this game to be readied for the fall, check out these new screens from Sony Gamers Day.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgd-07-naruto-ultimate-ninja-heroes/">SGD '07: Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 06:30:00 EST. The incredible PSP remakes of <em>Final Fantasy I</em> and <em>II</em> are heading to the Americas this June. Although they'll cost you a pretty penny ($30 each), the revamped visuals and presentation certainly are a noticeable step up from its NES roots. To remind us of how spectacular these games look, Square Enix released some more screenshots from these RPG remakes. Check them out here:<br /><br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgd-07-final-fantasy-i-and-ii/">SGD '07: Final Fantasy I &amp; II</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 06:00:00 EST. Not to be confused with <em>SOCOM: Tactical Strike</em>, <em>Dungeon &amp; Dragons Tactics</em> strives to bring a hardcore D&amp;D experience to the handheld. While it may be too difficult for mere simpletons like me to understand, the response from the PSP community has been overwhelming for this game. Surprising -- was the franchise really that strong?<br /><br />Check out some screens in our new gallery:<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dungeons-and-dragons-tactics/">Dungeons &amp; Dragons Tactics</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dungeons-and-dragons-tactics/#273870"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/dungeons__dragons_tactics-pspscreenshots16847tower-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dungeons-and-dragons-tactics/#273869"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/dungeons__dragons_tactics-pspscreenshots16846quickstart-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dungeons-and-dragons-tactics/#273868"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/dungeons__dragons_tactics-pspscreenshots16845elerin-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dungeons-and-dragons-tactics/#273867"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/dungeons__dragons_tactics-pspscreenshots16844elerin-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dungeons-and-dragons-tactics/#273866"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/dungeons__dragons_tactics-pspscreenshots16843eastings-6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgd-07-dungeons-and-dragons-tactics/">SGD '07: Dungeons &amp; Dragons Tactics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 05:30:00 EST. <div align="left">Screenshot-tastic. Six new pics of your Home away from home. These include three of the basic apartment and three of the 'luxury' apartment. What exactly you have to do to get the latter is not yet known. Though it seems that Sony are trying to give the impression that a bigger place means more friends. Look how lonely the bloke looks in his basic apartment (also, notice that he's invested in one of those Hover-Bum implants. Lucky sod). Whilst in the luxury apartment there's a veritable party atmosphere. Look how envious Linda Davis is of the host's giant house. Could this be a bit of subliminal commentary on the state of modern culture? Probably not, they're just screenshots.<br /><br />With the details regarding how we obtain more furniture or a bigger place unknown, there's still a danger that there'll be some form of micromanaging going on. The question is, will it use Real Money (TM) or some sort of Home currency? I can't see people shelling out to redecorate their virtual house. Well, not <em>most</em> people.<br /><br />These Home images don't do it for you? We've got more coming later. Keep an eye out!</div>

D3 Publisher's upcoming <em>Dead Head Fred</em> game certainly has an interesting premise. You play private detective Fred Neuman (pictured, alive), who was savagely murdered and then resurrected in a bizarre scientific experiment without his memory ... or his head. To uncover the mystery and enact his revenge, Fred will have to use the talents of his enemies against them. Fred will be able to attain one of 9 different heads from his enemies, and each offers a unique gameplay mechanic.<br /><br />The game looks like it's made some progress since we saw it last and we can't wait to get our hands on it. The title hits PSP systems August 21st. While you wait, check out the new screens we've collected below.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgd-07-dead-head-fred/">SGD '07: Dead Head Fred</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 05:00:00 EST. Sega's psychadelic dimension-bending puzzler <em>Crush</em> is due in just a few day's time. However, that didn't stop Sega from releasing a few new screens to tease us just a little bit more. Of particular note is the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/crush/245108/">creepy box art</a>: what's that guy wearing?<br />

When in the shadow of gaming titans such as <em>Silent Hill</em> and <em>God of War</em>, this PSP <em>Crazy Taxi</em> port doesn't seem too hot. Although it may not be pushing the eight billion polygons that <em>Chains of Olympus</em> may be pushing*, the game still has a lot of potential to be fun. Check out Sony Gamers Day pics in our gallery.<br /><br /><br /><br />*Untrue<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgd-07-crazy-taxi-fare-wars/">SGD '07: Crazy Taxi Fare Wars</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 04:00:00 EST. Nice!), and a contextual combat system that adds some new and unique melee attacks, from neck snaps to knife kills. <br /><br />What's cooler though is that they are opening this game up on a global scale as Logan travels the globe trying to unravel the mystery behind the disappearance of his long-time partner, Lian Xing. Story was penned by comic book writer extraordinaire <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greg_Rucka">Greg Rucka</a>, who you'll have to forgive for writing the novelization of <em>Perfect Dark</em>. He does a good job with Queen &amp; Country thought, so we're willing to let it slide. Gah! Anyone, <em>Buzz! </em>uses a special Sony PS2 add-on that plugs into one of your USB ports, and splits into four different game buzzers. That means you can have a total of eight gamers (two USB ports, and an extra set of Buzzers) playing at one time.<br /><br />The adult version of the game features over 5,000 questions that are trivia and time based, and the Jr. version is most about fun and clowning around for kids, while remaining educational. We played a few rounds with both, and it's actually more fun than you'd think. Plus, it helps you pretend you have a bar trivia machine, right in your own home.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/buzz-and-buzz-junior/">Buzz! and Buzz! Konami's <em>Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles</em> is just one of the many third-party software titles coming to PSP later this year. This <em>Rondo of Blood</em> remake looks nothing like its predecessor -- and for good reason. The graphics on this game are incredible. Certainly, this will move a good number of PSP systems to <em>Castlevania</em> fans that have long played on Nintendo handhelds. Sony Gamer's Day was filled with tons of goodies, such as the new PSP version of <em>PaRappa the Rapper</em>. There isn't much new to see here, considering its simply a port of a PS1 classic. <span style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 7px;"> <script> var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/playstation_3/Wii_Sports_like_bowling_game_for_PS3'; </script> <script src="http://digg.com/api/diggthis.js"></script></span>In a game announcement destined to pit Wii against PS3 (did you ever think you'd hear that?), Sony announced its very own <em>High Velocity Bowling</em> game that utilizes the Sixaxis' motion controls. You literally flip the controller on its side, hold it with your thumb between the analog sticks, and then sweep your arm gracefully along an arc while holding and releasing one of the buttons to send your ball down the alley.<br /><br />Sound simple? Well, it is and it isn't. Holding the Sixaxis like that feels really, really weird. It's like we're wired or programmed to hold that controller with both hands, and doing something like that makes our gamer genes cry out in pain. Although, in all honesty, once we got the hang of it, it wasn't all that bad. It's not <em>Wiimote</em> easy, and with the Sixaxis having no wrist strap whatsoever, we're especially worried about people sending these things sailing through their 1080p plasma screens.<br /><br />There's no Mii-like cutesy Fisher-Price people in this bowling game. Instead, you get extremely uncanny valley-ish avatars that look a tad frightening. Those shiny wood floors sure look good in HD, though, and there's a fairly kitschy <em>Lebowski</em> feel to the whole setting. Strangely enough, this downloadable PlayStation Network game is different than the bowling game you can play in Home (which still in the works). They haven't announced a price point yet but as far as a release date goes, "Fall" has been the watchword of the day.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/high-velocity-bowling-is-bowling-its-way-onto-ps3/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>High Velocity Bowling is ... bowling its way onto PS3</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/high-velocity-bowling-is-bowling-its-way-onto-ps3/">High Velocity Bowling is ... bowling its way onto PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 03:01:00 EST. <p><em>Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice</em> is officially heading to America this fall. Players will once again play as an acrobatic cop who will do <em>anything</em> to stop the gang violence plaguing the streets. Unlike the prequel, players won't have to do it alone: four new playable characters join the adventure. The game looks to be quite massive, featuring more than 50 levels in seven distinct environments. Sony estimates that the game offers 20 hours of gameplay right off the bat -- and that doesn't even include planned downloadable content packs (a la <em>Wipeout Pure</em>).</p>
<p>There are 12 different vehicle types, including hovercrafts and new "boss vehicles" specifically designed for boss encounters. <em>Extreme Justice</em> will also offer an expanded weapons arsenal: more than 30 in all. The game also includes four-player multiplayer. Unfortunately, it's Ad-Hoc only (we hope that will change).<br /></p>

<span style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 7px;"> <script> var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/playstation_3/Folklore_dark_fantasy_adventure_announced_for_PS3'; </script> <script src="http://digg.com/api/diggthis.js"></script></span>Calm down folks. We said <em>Folklore</em>, not folk <em>music</em>. <em>Arlo Guthrie's Jam Sessions</em> is not a new exclusive title on the PlayStation 3. Not yet, anyhow.<br /><br />Sony surprised us by announcing this title yesterday, and it's been flying completely under our radar. Developed by Tokyo's Game Republic under game creator Yoshiki Okamoto, executive producer of <em>Onimusha</em>, <em>Devil May Cry</em> and <em>Resident Evil</em>, <em>Folklore</em> is a dark fantasy adventure inspired by Western fairy tales.<br /><br />You can play the game as occult journalist Keats, or folk story enthusiast Ellen, both of whom have specific backstories, and extremely different methods of attack. As you journey into the fantastic Netherworld to solve a murder, you encounter over 100 different fantasy creatures. Although they were inspired by Western fairy tales, each one has been originally designed for this came.<br /><br />Adding a twist with the Sixaxis controller is the ability to literally tear the powers out of the creatures you defeat by flicking your wrists. Your own skills develop with each power you collect, and the game promises over 40 hours of gameplay with seven different realms to explore. <br /><br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/folklore-ps3/">Folklore (PS3)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/folklore-ps3/#361913"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/08/034_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/folklore-ps3/#361912"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/08/043_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/folklore-ps3/#361911"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/08/038_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/folklore-ps3/#361910"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/08/folk801_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/folklore-ps3/#361909"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/08/folk43_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/folklore-journeys-from-the-netherworld-to-playstation-3/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Folklore journeys from the Netherworld to PlayStation 3</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/folklore-journeys-from-the-netherworld-to-playstation-3/">Folklore journeys from the Netherworld to PlayStation 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 03:01:00 EST. Sony's <em>NBA</em> series returns for yet another outing this year. In the 2008 version, PSP gamers will be treated to the return of Conquest Mode, allowing players to manage and acquire territory. For gamers-on-the-go, a variety of mini-games will be available. HORSE, Dodgeball, Own the Court, PlayStation Skills Challenge, and 3-Point Contest will all return. However, there's even more to look forward to:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Shooting Bricks - an <em>Arkanoid</em>-inspired brick-breaking game.</li>
    <li>Breakaway - Quick running game where users alternate offense and defense.</li>
    <li>Elimination</li>
</ul>
There will also be additional Carnival-style games for those that, for some reason or another, don't actually want to play basketball in <em>NBA 08</em>. For those that do want a game of b-ball, the game will feature an "improved" season mode, new commentary, highlight reels, and wireless multiplayer. Downloadable content will update pinball boards and roster lists on a weekly basis. The game is set to release on October 2nd, and we have the very first images of the game right here.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgd-07-nba-08-block-party/">SGD '07: NBA '08 Block Party</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 03:01:00 EST. <span style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 7px;"> <script> var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/playstation_3/Pain_coming_to_PS3_s_PSN'; </script> <script src="http://digg.com/api/diggthis.js"></script></span>On Wednesday Sony revealed a new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psn">PlayStation Network</a> downloadable game called <em>Pain</em>. After listening to all the "Ooooooooh" "Ouch!" "Dang" and "Man, that had to hurt" statements from bystanders watching the demo, the name seemed very appropriate. It's about what you'd expect from a game that cites <em>Jackass</em> as a major inspiration and rewards you for shots to the crotch.<br /><br />Basically, it's a simple approach that combines <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/havok">Havok</a> physics with a big human-sized slingshot. You load up your player and launch him into a situation that causes the most pain, whether it be slamming into a moving car, hitting a propane tank (that promptly explodes, natch) or crashing through plate-glass windows. You can interact with the environment in a ton of different ways and in multiple (and curiously named) gameplay modes such as HORSE, Spank the Monkey, and Mime Toss.<br /><br />The game will also feature user-generated content (there's no escaping <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/game3.0">Game 3.0</a>!) in the form of game replays that you can upload to the web, and possibly to YouTube, all directly from your console. They haven't announced a price point yet, but the developers told us it would be "reasonable." This title was a surprise hit at the Sony Gamers Day, so look for our hands-on with it soon.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pain-psn/">Pain (PSN)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pain-psn/#318197"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/pain-scr0002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pain-psn/#318198"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/pain-scr0002-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pain-psn/#318199"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/pain-scr0005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pain-psn/#318200"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/pain-scr0007_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pain-psn/#318201"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/pain-scr0011_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/playstation-3-becomes-a-source-of-pain/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PlayStation 3 becomes a source of Pain</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/playstation-3-becomes-a-source-of-pain/">PlayStation 3 becomes a source of Pain</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 03:01:00 EST. This Level-5 developed PSP-exclusive strategy RPG is coming stateside this August. The game melts fantasy and history in a unique retelling of the classic story of Joan of Arc. Demon armies are trying to invade the human world, and it's up to five heroes to restrain the demon gods. As France and England battle during the Hundred Years' War, Jeanne must use a mysterious armlet to fight the demons and save the world.<br />
<br />
Sony is promising a 40 hour adventure with tons of customizable options. There will be over 150 different skills and abilities, and a total of 14 playable characters. Check out new screens from Sony's Gamers Day in our gallery below.<br />

<span style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 7px;"> <script> var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/playstation_3/PS3s_Stranglehold_coming_with_Woos_Hard_Boiled_in_HD'; </script> <script src="http://digg.com/api/diggthis.js"></script></span>Good news for PS3 owners, and a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/30/new-games-this-week-spider-man-3-edition/">synergistic slap</a> in the face to Xbox 360 lovers: the PlayStation 3 Collectors Edition of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/stranglehold">John Woo's Stranglehold</a> </em>will have the HD Blu-ray version of his classic film (and Chow Yun-Fat's classic firing-two-guns-whilst-jumping-through-the-air starring role) included on the game disc.<br /><br />Midway had to work out a special deal with the Weinstein's <a href="http://www.dragondynasty.com/">Dragon Dynasty</a> imprint, which owns the rights to John Woo's Chinese-language films. They'll be releasing a new special edition of Hard Boiled sometime later this year under that banner, so this may be the only way you can see the movie in HD for some time.<br /><br />Mind you, the fancy version of <em>Stranglehold</em> will cost you $10 on top of your standard "next-gen" fee, resulting in a steep $70 price tag. No word on special features, or if the disc will play in regular Blu-ray players ... but we'll take our game with a shot of Inspector Tequila. Thank you very much.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/stranglehold-ps3/">Stranglehold (PS3)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/stranglehold-ps3/#244706"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/screenshot_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/stranglehold-ps3/#244705"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/screenshot_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/stranglehold-ps3/#244704"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/screenshot_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/ps3s-stranglehold-coming-with-woos-hard-boiled-in-hd/">PS3's Stranglehold coming with Woo's Hard Boiled in HD</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 03:01:00 EST. <p>Before being deceived into killing his wife and daughter in the original <em>God of War</em>, Kratos was a mere puppet of the Gods. The PSP-exclusive <em>Chains of Olympus</em> tells the story of Kratos' perilous journey before the original <em>God of War</em> where Kratos will have to battle "the most feared creatures of Greek Mythology." This exclusive PSP title, developed by Ready At Dawn, will be available this holiday season. Check out new screens from Sony's Gamers Day below. Then, check out a video, after the cut.<br /></p>

Sony has just unveiled its latest metrics data for PlayStation hardware and software sales worldwide. Of particular note to avid observers of the handheld console wars is NPD's data on "portable hardware dollars market share" for the calendar year 2006. According to the data (seen above), Sony's PSP system actually beats Nintendo DS by a fraction of a percentage. This makes sense, considering PSP's significantly higher asking price. Although DS clearly has far more units in households, this kind of data proves that Sony isn't out of the game.<br /><br />See even more statistics, after the cut.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgs-07-sony-releases-latest-sales-statistics/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SGD '07: Sony releases latest sales statistics</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgs-07-sony-releases-latest-sales-statistics/">SGD '07: Sony releases latest sales statistics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 03:01:00 EST.
