Thanks to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Kickstarter/">Kickstarter</a>, projects that I never thought would see the light of day are getting a chance to prove themselves on their own terms. Who ever thought that Tim Schafer would get a chance to make another adventure game? Or that <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1613260297/shadowrun-returns" target="_blank"><em>Shadowrun</em> would get another shot</a> after the mediocre cross-platform <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/2007FPS/">2007 FPS</a>?<br /><br />That's why I'm writing here today, rather than my usual space at the JRPG column. Long ago, I played the pen-and-paper RPG <em>Shadowrun</em> with a group of friends, though not always successfully. Since then, both the setting and the system have stuck with me in any number of ways. So as you can imagine, the thought of a new computer role-playing game (CRPG) based on the series is exciting.<br /><br />First, the setting. If you've ever played <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Deus-Ex-Human-Revolution/">Deus Ex: Human Revolution</a></em> - or watched <em>Blade Runner</em>, for that matter - you'll know what you're in for with <em>Shadowrun</em>. The big twist is that magic is suddenly a part of everyday life on this version of earth; an earth where cybernetically-enhanced dwarfs, elves, and trolls freely roam. A little silly maybe, but I've always been struck by the power <em>Shadowrun</em> has to unite those who enjoy both fantasy and science fiction - which is sometimes tougher to do than you might think.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/13/welcome-back-shadowrun/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Welcome back, Shadowrun</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/13/welcome-back-shadowrun/">Welcome back, Shadowrun</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Apr 2012 16:30:00 EST. You can't, however, tell people that you helped make the dream come true, as the project dubbed "Shadowrun Returns" is now officially funded. The Kickstarter launched just over 24 hours ago, and nearly 10,000 people felt it was worth contributing to, putting the current total at approximately $430,000.<br /><br />As previously noted, there's still plenty of time to back the project between now and the Kickstarter's end date in 23 days. There's even one (of three) $10,000 tier level options still available, should you be feeling especially saucy today.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/05/shadowrun-returns-kickstarter-goal-met-still-a-month-left-to/">'Shadowrun Returns' Kickstarter goal met, still a month left to raise more dough</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Apr 2012 16:10:00 EST. Jordan Weisman, the creator of <em>Shadowrun</em>, secured the license for a sequel on the PC and iOS and Android tablets, and is hoping to raise $400,000 for the project.<br /><br /><em>Shadowrun Returns</em> is planned to be a "graphically rich 2D turn-based single player game" in the vein of classic <em>Shadowrun</em>. Harebrained Schemes will also release the PC level editor alongside the game, so players can craft their own stories and missions within the universe and share them online -- either with all players or only your friends.<br /><br />As of right now, Harebrained Schemes is pretty much halfway to the desired goal with 24 days left to go.<br /><br />[Thanks, Chad.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/04/shadowrun-returns-kickstarter-for-a-sequel-from-shadowrun-vets/">Shadowrun Returns: Kickstarter for a sequel from Shadowrun vets</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Apr 2012 21:00:00 EST. Before 2007's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shadowrun">Shadowrun</a> </em>released and Microsoft subsequently <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/12/fasa-studio-is-dead/">closed the doors</a> on FASA, the studio was apparently working on <em>Shadowrun: The Awakening</em> -- a game with a full single-player campaign and unique 3D gameplay engine developed in-house. Some footage (teleport past the break to give it a look-see) managed to make its way online over at <a href="http://www.unseen64.net/2008/11/20/shadowrun-xbox-cancelled/">Unseen64</a>, showing off a few environments and some character animations. As Unseen64 would tell it, the story goes: FASA brought a new art director in which, through a series of unknown events, lead to an eventual cancellation in favor of the multiplayer-driven experience that was the 2007 game.<br />
<br />
As it stands now, Jordan Weisman managed to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/06/weisman-licenses-mechwarrior-shadowrun-crimson-skies-rights-ba/">snag the rights</a> to the <em>Shadowrun </em>IP (among others), so the possibility of seeing this resurface as <em>an actual thing</em> isn't entirely impossible -- though Weisman is trying to let some of the negativity surrounding the brand <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/03/smith-and-tinker-looking-into-homes-for-crimson-skies-shadowrun-i/">die down a bit</a> before revisiting it. <br />

<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/smith-and-tinker">Smith &amp; Tinker</a> founder <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/jordan-weisman">Jordan Weisman</a> recently spoke about his plans for the other <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/FASA/">FASA</a> IPs he <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/06/weisman-licenses-mechwarrior-shadowrun-crimson-skies-rights-ba/">licensed from Microsoft.</a> In a recent interview with <a href="http://au.gamespot.com/news/6214624.html">Gamespot</a>, Weisman teased, "I think Crimson Skies is something we'd love to get some energy around, and we have some devious plans--we'll see if those materialize." Intriguing!<br /><br /><em>Shadowrun </em>fans, however, shouldn't expect to be nearly as intrigued -- at least not anytime soon. "Shadowrun was recently...not treated well...shall we say, so the thought was let a little time pass before approaching that one again," Weisman admitted. <br /><br />As for the beloved <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/MechWarrior/">MechWarrior</a></em> franchise, the series <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/09/new-mechwarrior-a-reboot-called-mechwarrior/">reboot</a> is currently in development by Piranha Games for PC and Xbox 360. Smith &amp; Tinker plans to farm out development of these old IPs to other studios over time, so if you're a fancy studio head with a clever idea for a <em>Crimson Skies</em> or <em>Shadowrun</em> revival, feel free to give Weisman a call. Like, now.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/crimson_skies_could_return.html">VideoGamer</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/03/smith-and-tinker-looking-into-homes-for-crimson-skies-shadowrun-i/">Smith &amp; Tinker looking into homes for Crimson Skies, Shadowrun IPs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Aug 2009 13:00:00 EST. Although it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/joystiq-interview-hal-milton-lead-designer-the-agency/">dangled in front of us</a> like a tantalizing carrot, it looks like you won't be able to get any cross-gaming action between PS3s and PCs out of Sony's upcoming spy MMO, <em>The Agency</em>. Last year, designer Hal Milton told us the developer weas looking at it, but in a recent interview with Eurogamer it looks like he's <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=215078">closed the door</a> on things for good. You can thank <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shadowrun"><em>Shadowrun</em></a> for ruining it all.<br /><br />"PC guys say, 'PS3 guys have aim assist and the controls nerfed for them'. And PS3 guys say, 'PC guys have a mouse and keyboard - it's all easier for them'. Even if it's not true." Not that we're complaining, because <em>Shadowrun</em> made us a bit mental. But this really needs to happen in a fun way sooner or later. Which title is going to be able to nail it down and make it work? <em>Super Mario Crossover Party Platformer 2: Now With More Fun</em> has our money.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/18/no-cross-platform-secret-agenting-in-the-agency/">No cross-platform secret agenting in The Agency</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Aug 2008 18:45:00 EST. Though, only for a limited time.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/53886">Shacknews</a> confirmed the news with Microsoft which ultimately means that anyone who owns <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/universe-at-war"><em>Universe at War</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shadowrun"><em>Shadowrun</em></a> or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lost-planet"><em>Lost Planet: Colonies Edition</em></a> on the Xbox 360 can play multiplayer online against 360 and PC Live members with a free Silver Xbox Live account. The catch being that this free Xbox 360 cross-platform gaming is more of a promotion and will only last until the rollout of the Fall update later this year. So, if you're part of the Silver crowd, own 360 versions of any of the games listed above and have the urge to play online, you better enjoy it while it lasts. Your freeloading time is limited.<br /><br />[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/29/silver-live-members-get-free-cross-platform-title-playtime-throu/">Silver Live members get free cross platform title playtime through Fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Jul 2008 03:15:00 EST. Ms. Kimona has dropped by the official <em>Shadowrun</em> forums to let everyone know (all three of you) that the boards will be nailed shut in a few weeks, and eventually Shadowrun.com will be transitioned over to new caretaker (and original creator) Jordan Weisman, who recently formed Tinker &amp; Smith and promptly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/06/weisman-licenses-mechwarrior-shadowrun-crimson-skies-rights-ba/" target="_blank">borrowed back</a> several neglected franchises, including ill-fated <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shadowrun/">Shadowrun</a></em>. Kimona has urged all members to pack up their dwarves and pot up those Trees of Life for the long journey over to the <a href="http://forums.xbox.com/607/ShowForum.aspx" target="_blank">Shadowrun forums on Xbox.com</a>, or better, suggest a more fitting meet-up site - how about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/12/fasa-studio-is-dead/" target="_blank">FASA's deserted offices</a>?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/04/shadowrun-forums-close-as-franchise-transitions-into-new-hands/">Shadowrun forums close as franchise transitions into new hands</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Jan 2008 13:45:00 EST. The official <em>Shadowrun</em> forums are being <a href="http://forums.shadowrun.com/forums/thread/130338.aspx">shut down</a> soon due to the fact that most of the original FASA employees have moved on to other roles within' Microsoft and there isn't enough staff to keep watch. As a result, we advise quickly make your way to the <a href="http://forums.shadowrun.com/forums/">forums</a> and posting until your <em>Shadowrun</em> heart is content. Though, there is a semi-silver lining to the forum shutdown. Shadowrun.com and its contents will be transferred over to the new <em>Shadowrun</em> IP owners <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/08/fasa-founder-buys-shadowrun-and-other-ips/">Smith &amp; Tinker</a>, so they'll have free range to do whatever they wish with the Shadowrun.com name. Every system had a number of well received games over the past year, as reflected by the fairly diverse Game of the Year lists springing up around the video game blogosphere. The gaming industry <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/03/activision-stock-way-up-after-merger-news/">has grown</a> and further caught the attention of the mainstream business media. A video game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/26/halo-3-nets-170-million-in-us-first-day-breaks-records/">broke the one-day entertainment sales record</a> in the States. It was a year that all of us, gamers and professionals alike, can feel very good about.<br /><br />Except for you, box art designers. While the rest of the video game industry strove to bring their "A game", or rather, their "AAA game" this year, you chose 2007 to be the year when you collectively dropped the ball. <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=177363">Computer and Video Games</a> has a chronicling of your failure; from <em>Shadowrun</em>'s poorly drawn case, to the nightmarish box art for <em>Cheggers' Party Quiz</em>; and who could forget the decadently homoerotic cover for <em>Fire Pro Wrestling Returns</em>? Not us. <em>We've tried.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/29/cvg-picks-the-best-and-worst-box-art-of-2007/">CVG picks the Best and Worst Box Art of 2007</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 29 Dec 2007 15:00:00 EST. But today we find it's not. FASA founder Jordan Weisman has been busy lately, he just created a new game studio called Smith &amp; Tinker and (get this) <a href="http://www.smithandtinker.com/news/">bought up</a> all of FASA's original IPs from Microsoft. Yup. Weisman and Smith &amp; Tinker now own the <em>Shadowrun</em> IP as well as <em>MechWarrior</em> and <em>Crimson Skies</em>. What will they be doing with these oldy, but golden IPs? They're not ready to show us their hand just yet, but they do promise to "surprise and delight old fans, while welcoming new fans to these fantastic worlds". Anyone up for an Xbox 360 <em>Crimson Skies</em> sequel in 2010?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/840/840320p1.html">IGN</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/08/fasa-founder-buys-shadowrun-and-other-ips/">FASA founder buys Shadowrun and other IPs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 08 Dec 2007 12:45:00 EST. The deal, apparently done quietly (and ages ago in web-time), puts franchises like <em>MechWarrior</em>, <em>Shadowrun</em> and <em>Crimson Skies</em> back in Weisman's hands. Previously, these properties were managed and developed by FASA, another Weisman credit, which was sold to Microsoft in 1999 and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/12/fasa-studio-is-dead/" target="_blank">dissolved</a> several months ago.<br /><br />With Microsoft suddenly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/05/its-official-bungie-branches-off-from-microsoft/" target="_blank">short</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/26/activision-pockets-project-gotham-dev-bizarre-creations/" target="_blank">on</a> internal development teams, the most action the FASA catalog has been seeing is a polite dusting off ever few months before being re-shelved. While Weisman and co. have yet to detail the projects, a job listing calling for online game expertise suggests MMOs could be in the works. A posting on the Smith &amp; Tinker website assures fans that "our goal is to surprise and delight old fans, while welcoming new fans to these fantastic worlds."<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=16535" target="_blank">Gamasutra</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/06/weisman-licenses-mechwarrior-shadowrun-crimson-skies-rights-ba/">Weisman licenses MechWarrior, Shadowrun, Crimson Skies rights back from MS (internet finally notices)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Dec 2007 17:59:00 EST. Mitch Gitelman posted the news on the official <em>Shadowrun</em> forums saying that the entire crew has known about FASA Studio's sad fate for a while, but they held off announcing their shutdown so it wouldn't affect <em>Shadowrun</em>'s release or the perception of the game. The good news is that all of FASA's employees are being dissolved into Microsoft Game Studios and should be able to find projects that they can get excited about and support. Rest in peace FASA Studio, you will always hold a dear place in our hearts, will forever be missed and know that your work will always live on.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://shadowrun.hushedcasket.com/2007/09/12/fasa-closes-doors-so-long/">Hushed Casket</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/13/fasa-studio-closes-its-doors/">FASA Studio closes its doors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Sep 2007 11:00:00 EST. FASA Studios, the company behind <em>Shadowrun</em>, is no more -- it has ceased to be. The <a href="http://forums.shadowrun.com/forums/126659/ShowThread.aspx#126659">announcement</a> was made after close of business today on the <em>Shadowrun</em> boards. The post states that those who did not move onto other positions at Microsoft Game Studios are now out of work. A Community Manager and Tech Support Manager will still have a job to support the game, the post says they chose to wait on the announcement because they "didn't want people's attention distracted from our last product <em>Shadowrun</em>, a game we love."<br /><br />Well, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/metareview-shadowrun-xbox-360-pc/">at least they did</a>. We said it before and we'll say it again: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/25/shadowrun-developer-gets-honest-or-scary/">Poor <em>Shadowrun</em></a>! The game probably could not have had more things going against it. It was the perfect storm of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/09/shadowrun-lands-on-xbox-and-windows-may-29th/">half-game with some peripheral Vista drama</a>, going out to an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/circuit-city-offers-free-copies-of-shadowrun-to-halo-2-vista-buy/">uninterested audience</a>, during the <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/tag/h3beta07">worst time imaginable</a> for an online game during the <em>Halo 3</em> beta. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Shadowrun/"><em>Shadowrun</em></a> was just so absolutely doomed. Goodbye FASA, hopefully your splintered team will show what they're truly capable of next time.<br /><br />[Thanks Wes and Michael]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/12/fasa-studio-is-dead/">FASA Studio is dead</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Sep 2007 23:45:00 EST. Their latest song "Bad Game" is a parody of Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" with lyrics targeted towards bashing what they feel are the worst games of 2007, most notably <em>Shadowrun</em>. Sarcastic Gamer is ready for the emails, hatred and verbal abuse <em>Shadowrun</em> fans will bring after hearing the song, so go ahead give it a listen to see if "Bad Game" captures your feelings. While a little later than usual, there's another wonderful <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Achievements101">X3F Achievements 101</a> for you this week. A first for the column, a reader organized a gaming session in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Shadowrun/">Shadowrun</a></em>, and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/14/dont-cut-yourself-just-yet-mcr-pack-on-guitar-hero-ii/">latest</a> downloadable content for <em>Guitar Hero II</em> threw some Achievements that are now easier to get, if you're willing to pay for the content. We're also testing out a new timeslot, posting the column at the tail end of the work week instead of at the beginning. So, continue on to another action packed Achievements 101.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/24/x3f-achievements-101-star-power-summon-strangle-and-sniping/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>X3F Achievements 101: Star Power, Summon, Strangle, &amp; Sniping</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/24/x3f-achievements-101-star-power-summon-strangle-and-sniping/">X3F Achievements 101: Star Power, Summon, Strangle, &amp; Sniping</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 Aug 2007 11:00:00 EST. We had our concerns, but <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Shadowrun/">Shadowrun</a></em> has really impressed with its continued support after launch. It seems that FASA and Microsoft are actually committed to giving the game the sort of fine-tuning it needed to become a top-notch multi-player experience. To that end, the game just received its third title update. <br /><br />Most of the changes are things only fans can appreciate (the "elves' regeneration ability has been tweaked," for example), but we're sure it's a big deal for people who are still gliding and porting. If you aren't among them, maybe now's the time to take <span style="font-style: italic;">Shadowrun </span>for another spin. We've got a full list of changes after the jump.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/08/20/shadowrun-gets-some-title-update-3-love/">X3F</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/21/shadowrun-gets-third-title-update/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Shadowrun gets third title update</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/21/shadowrun-gets-third-title-update/">Shadowrun gets third title update</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Aug 2007 08:00:00 EST. I also dabbed into the multiplayer portion of The Darkness, and scored some Achievements in that, as well as finally getting some overdue ones in the game's single player story. All of this and more can be found after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/12/x3f-achievements-101-of-ninjas-and-darklings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>X3F Achievements 101: Of Ninjas and Darklings</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/12/x3f-achievements-101-of-ninjas-and-darklings/">X3F Achievements 101: Of Ninjas and Darklings</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 12 Aug 2007 16:00:00 EST. This week, we cover a little bit of a backlog, as there's the survival of my Achievement streak during E3, my hitting of a couple Gamerscore Milestones, and the completion of a couple more 1000 GS rentals, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/TMNT/">TMNT</a></em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Cars/"><em>Cars</em>.</a><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/06/achievements-101-the-return/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>X3F Achievements 101: The Return [update 1]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/06/achievements-101-the-return/">X3F Achievements 101: The Return [update 1]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Aug 2007 14:30:00 EST. Despite <a href="http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/14063/Shadowrun-Title-Update-2-Coming-Next-Week/">TeamXbox</a> reporting that the patch would go up sometime next week, it looks like it has already hit. The title update features several fixes including some exploit fixes (FASA isn't talking about what those exploits <em>are</em> by the way), crash fixes, and improved bot AI. The biggest change, however, has to be reduced wait times in matchmaking, which FASA reports to be improved by 200-300%. Hit the "read" link for the full list of fixes.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/25/shadowrun-title-update-due-next-week/">Joystiq</a>. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Shadowrun/">Shadowrun</a></em> players may have to drop one of their hobbies once they download the new title update. No, they won't be forced to quit the multiplayer FPS, they'll have to give up whatever they've been doing during the hours (OK, minutes) it takes to join a game. In the official <em>Shadowrun </em>forums, lead program manager <a href="http://forums.shadowrun.com/forums/thread/108185.aspx">"Kimona" says</a> that the new update is expected to improve wait times 200 to 300%. The post also promises improved sync times when new players join a game and changes to the party system. There are also some changes specific to Vista.<br /><br /><strike>Kimona isn't saying exactly what day next week the update will drop, but suffice it to say you had better put some major time into that "Bless This Mess" needlepoint over the weekend.</strike> Update: Doh, the patch is now live (and has been since yesterday!). Strangely, the episode isn't available at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/RoosterTeeth/">Rooster Teeth</a> yet, so, for the moment, you're stuck watching from your Xbox 360. In this episode we continue the story of Bitterman in his quest to understand his newfound magical abilities. Now that the series has been established in the first three episodes, the fourth gives it a little twist to keep things interesting. We won't spoil it for you, but suffice it to say it is both funny and intriguing. <strike>We're looking forward to future episodes</strike>. Well, look no further than Circuit City and the Sunday newspaper ads. This week, Circuit City is slashing $20 off select games including titles like <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=175812&amp;cm_keycode=85">TMNT</a></em> ($29.99), <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=173406&amp;cm_keycode=85">GRAW 2</a></em> ($39.99), <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=176554&amp;cm_keycode=85">Spider-Man 3</a></em> ($39.99) and<em> <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=162060&amp;cm_keycode=85">Call of Duty 3</a></em> ($39.99). Also, since both the Red and Black Edition Player Packs will be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/30/rainbow-six-vegas-red-and-black-edition-now-free/">free downloads</a>, why not pick up <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=163176&amp;cm_keycode=85">Rainbow Six Vegas</a></em> for the low, low price of $39.99 too? You can't pass that up. Maybe new releases are more up your alley, then we advise picking up a free $10 gift card with a <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=180917&amp;cm_keycode=85">Transformers: The Game</a></em> purchase. And if you're in the market for <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=179952&amp;cm_keycode=85">Shadowrun</a></em>, purchase it for $37.99 on Windows Vista and Circuit City will throw in a <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-for-Windows-882224248495/sem/rpsm/oid/172234/catOid/-16483/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do">wireless receiver</a> for free!<br /><br />All deals are available online or in-store, so save a few bucks and pick up some new games to add to your video game library this week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/01/20-discounts-on-r6-vegas-graw-2-and-more/">$20 discounts on R6 Vegas, GRAW 2 and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 01 Jul 2007 10:00:00 EST. This week <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2007/06/30/live-activity-for-week-of-6-25.aspx">sees</a> some things that don't change, the return of a few old faces, and other movements. The top four remain the same, with <em>Shadowrun</em> also remaining at tenth, though its demo dropped to 9th, which is unfortunate. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/oblivion"><span style="font-style: italic;">Oblivion</span></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/graw2"><span style="font-style: italic;">GRAW 2</span></a> make returns at sixth and seventh respectively, as it looks like players are coming back to those in the summer lull. Even as <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/RedVsBlue/">Red Vs. Blue</a></em> readies for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/27/red-vs-blue-draws-to-a-close-today/">final curtain</a>, another series is just beginning. The third episode of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/1800magic"><em>1-800-Magic</em></a> has now landed on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XboxLiveMarketplace/">Xbox Live Marketplace</a>. Of course, you could always <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/26/1-800-magic-continues-argues-with-tree/">check it out</a> on the intarwebz right now, but we find the HD widescreen view from the couch much more appealing. In case you've missed the series so far, here's a quick nonsensical recap: arguing trolls, talking trees named Frank, bacon, BAMF!, tech support, and magic. That pretty much sums it up.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/27/1-800-magic-3-bamfs-onto-xblm/">1-800-Magic #3 BAMFs onto XBLM</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Jun 2007 15:45:00 EST. Unfortunately for Falling Leaf, the hacking group <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Razor_1911">Razor 1911</a> has already cracked* <em>Shadowrun</em> according to the <a href="http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=40538">Inquirer</a>. Apparently, all the crack does is overwrite a few files in the installation directory. It should be noted that the crack only allows for single player against bots and multiplayer over LAN. As far as we know, online multiplayer is still restricted to Vista.<br /><br />Falling Leaf expects its solution to arrive in late July.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/11/halo-2-shadowrun-made-playable-on-xp/">Joystiq</a>]<br /><br /><em>*If you want the crack, you'll have to find it on your own; we're not linking it.<br /></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/27/shadowrun-now-playable-on-xp/">Shadowrun now playable on XP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Jun 2007 12:30:00 EST. Beating <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/11/halo-2-shadowrun-made-playable-on-xp/">Falling Leaf</a> to the punch, members of the hacking group <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Razor_1911">Razor1911</a> have managed to hack the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Vista/">Vista</a>-only <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/shadowrun"><em>Shadowrun</em></a> to work on Windows XP, the <a href="http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=40538">Inquirer</a> reports. The crack, weighing in at less than 5 MB, reportedly removes the need for DirectX 10. (No, we're not linking to it -- you can find it yourself.)<br /><br />With the crack, you can only play single-player against bots or multiplayer LAN games. Falling Leaf, who has stated they will be providing free code for those who purchase the game on Amazon via their <a href="http://www.fallingleafsystems.com/preorder/">pre-order page</a>, still estimates cracks for Vista-only <em>Shadowrun </em>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo2"><em>Halo 2</em></a> by "late July."<strong><br /></strong><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/26/vista-only-shadowrun-cracked-playable-on-xp/">Vista-only Shadowrun cracked, playable on XP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Jun 2007 17:55:00 EST. Oh, and there is a rather protracted argument with a tree (whose name is Frank). And we can't forget the trolls continuing to look for the perfect attack phrase ("smoke 'em" is the new hotness this week). Rather than spoil anything else, why not have a look for yourself and tell us what you think? Be warned though, the video is NSFW on account of some salty language. The generous gents over at <a href="http://xbox360achievements.org">Xbox 360 Achievements</a> are giving away a copy of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shadowrun"><em>Shadowrun</em></a> to celebrate the 250,000th post on their forums. To enter all you need to do is post your gamertag on <a href="http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=30032">this</a> thread, though <a href="http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/register.php">registration</a> is required. This is definitely a pretty good deal, then again, when is anything <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/26/f-e-a-r-d-l-c-for-f-r-e-e-on-x-b-l-m/">free</a> not one? Gitelman's argument is that most of the <em>Shadowrun</em> reviews agree that the game is an innovative, fun and unique FPS experience, but deduct points due to its lack of campaign and a $59.99 price tag. He goes on to say that the game should be reviewed for what it is and not how much it costs as they never said a campaign would be included. It's an interesting argument to say the least as <em>Shadowrun</em>'s reviews tend to lean towards what the game isn't. But what say you fellow fanboy? Should reviews take a game's price into consideration or should the content and just the content be rated? It's a difficult topic to tackle, so we're interested in hearing what you think.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamesradar.com/gb/pc/game/news/article.jsp?releaseId=20070622111150952011&amp;articleId=20070622111150952011&amp;sectionId=1006">Games Radar</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/25/shadowrun-reviews-bother-fasa/">Shadowrun reviews bother FASA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Jun 2007 14:15:00 EST. The top three remained unchanged, with <em>Guitar Hero II</em> moving into fourth, pushing the <em>Shadowrun</em> demo down. One of the other demos from last week, <em>Tenchu Z </em>remains in the same spot, and the Arcade game, <em>Prince of Persia</em> actually moved up to eighth. Also, though its demo has been on the list for the past week, the retail version of <em>Shadowrun</em> has made it on the top ten list, and will hopefully continue to climb. Full breakdown of the list after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/25/live-top-ten-shadow-runs-fast/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Live Top Ten: Shadow runs fast</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/25/live-top-ten-shadow-runs-fast/">Live Top Ten: Shadow runs fast</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Jun 2007 07:30:00 EST. What we didn't know, however, was that teleportation is also accompanied by the hearty smell of bacon. At least, that's what the newest episode of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/1800magic"><em>1-800-Magic</em></a> tells us. Not only was it released during the <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/tag/h3beta07"><em>Halo 3 Beta</em></a>, but on the same day as the considerably more anticipated racer, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/forza2"><em>Forza Motorsport 2</em></a>. And while it's too early to decide whether the suicide mission was a success or not (depending on how you look at it), Circuit City is <a href="http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2007/06/17/free-shadowrun-with-halo-2-purchase-already">dumping</a> their Vista copies of <em>Shadowrun</em> for "free," as long as you don't mind it piggy-backing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/28/new-games-this-week-halo-2-vista-finally-arrives/"><em>Halo 2 Vista</em></a> for $39.99.<br /><br /><em>Shadowrun</em>, like an episode of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ugly_betty">Ugly Betty</a>, is proof that underneath it all is something worth getting to know, but not something worth getting for more than $20. Still, judging from <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/halo2">reviews</a>, this could be a way to get folks to spend their money, officially, on the much debated <em>Halo 2 Vista</em> port.<br /><br />Regardless of whichever way you see it: $40 bucks for <em>Halo 2 Vista</em> or a free copy of <em>Shadowrun</em>, there seems to be a loser somewhere in this scenario.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/circuit-city-offers-free-copies-of-shadowrun-to-halo-2-vista-buy/">Circuit City offers free copies of Shadowrun to Halo 2 Vista buyers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Jun 2007 19:55:00 EST. But be sure to note that most (if not all) are in-store only deals, so let's get to it. This week they brought back two deals including the two free HD DVD offer with the purchase of the Xbox 360 <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=166160&amp;cm_keycode=85">HD DVD player</a> and the 4' tall Master Chief <a href="http://circuitcity.shoplocal.com/circuitcity/Default.aspx?action=browsepagedetail&amp;storeid=2397092&amp;rapid=411729&amp;pagenumber=14&amp;listingid=-2093168398">wall graphic</a> with a <em>Halo 3</em> preorder. For new deals we have a free tshirt with the purchase of <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Monster-Madness-Battle-for-Suburbia-Xbox-360/sem/rpsm/oid/176135/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do">Monster Madness: Battle for Suburbia</a> </em>and an offer for our PC fanboys. In the video, he plays a Dwarf, and in this particular round, focuses on defense, and shows the art of Quick Casting. Quick Casting is casting magic (or throwing grenades/AMGs) without having it bound to a bumper/left trigger. To do this you hold B, select Magic or Tech, then your spell/nade, and pulling the right trigger. He uses this technique with Strangle, whilst having Tree and Resurrect assigned to his left trigger and right bumper, respectively. <br /><br />That's fine for the purpose of this video, but note that Tree and Res are the the easiest to Quick Cast, since, you can hold the direction for Magic (left) before hitting B. So if you are holding left and strafing, hit B, you're automatically selecting Tree of Life at that point, and can pull the right trigger and cast. Res is slightly higher on the radial menu, but on the left side. Conversely, nades are on the 3 o'clock position, so Quick Casting them is just as simple. All in all, good tips on the use of Strangle, and Quick Casting, and the price tag certainly is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/13/shadowrun-strategy-videos-will-cost-you/">easier</a> to swallow, so thank you, Chris.<br /><br />Do you use Quick Casting when playing <em>Shadowrun</em>? If so, on what Magic or Tech (noting it only works on the nades)?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/video-free-shadowrun-tips-from-gamerscore-blog/">Video: Free Shadowrun tips from Gamerscore blog</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Jun 2007 11:45:00 EST. This week's live top ten has a third of the list <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/06/16/live-activity-for-week-of-6-11.aspx">devoted</a> to digitally distributed demonstration content. Of those demos, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shadowrun">Shadowrun</a></em> came all the way in fourth, with <em>Tenchu Z</em> down in 7th, and the <em>Overlord</em> demo rounding out the list in tenth. Without the <em><a href="http://xbox360fanboy.com/tag/h3beta07">Halo 3 Beta</a></em> there to hog the list, <em>Forza</em> moved up all the way to second, behind <em>Gears of War.</em> <em>Crackdown</em> proved it had some staying power without the help of the aforementioned beta, as it maintained the middle ground at fifth. Also, <em>Prince of Persia</em> managed to make the list at ninth. Speaking of the list, you can find that after the break. Enjoy.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/live-top-ten-demolicious/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Live Top Ten: Demolicious</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/live-top-ten-demolicious/">Live Top Ten: Demolicious</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Jun 2007 10:15:00 EST.
