There are a few times the use of Lynyrd Skynyrd's classic track "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mioGewkWVdo">Free Bird</a>" are not cool to use. Showcasing a violent first-person shooter with <em>zombie</em>-like creatures in a Vietnam setting should be in the top three. However, Eidos have released a trailer for its upcoming shooter <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shellshock-2">Shellshock 2: Blood Trails</a></em> using that very tune. The Vietnam War is a difficult war to engage in the videogame world as it traditionally does poorly due to, at least in part, the blurry lines of good and evil. How do you combat those blurry lines? Infect people with some crazy disease that turns them nuttier than Mr. Peanut hence making it a monster shooter instead of a realistic one, of course!. <em>Shellshock 2: Blood Trails</em> hits the Xbox 360 this November.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/30/shellshock-2-goes-all-gritty-in-vietnam-with-zombies/">Shellshock 2 goes all gritty in Vietnam ... with zombies!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Sep 2008 20:30:00 EST. <em>Shellshock 2: Blood Trails</em> is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/11/rebellion-to-develop-shellshock-sequel-for-sure/">Rebellion's sequel</a> to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guerrilla"><em>Killzone</em> gang's</a> <em>Shellshock: Nam '67</em> (shucks, we must've missed that one). This second tour of doodie, brought to you by Eidos, is presented with this thumb-tingling pitch: "a brutal and twisted psychological first person shooter, coming to disturb your Christmas." (We prefer our holidays quite undisturbed, thank you.)<br /><br />What we're dealing with appears to be a rehash of <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099871/"><em>Jacob's Ladder</em></a>, replacing the film's "The Ladder" drug (loosely based on <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-quinuclidinyl_benzilate">BZ</a>) with "Whiteknight" ("an enemy that ultimately has no side") -- oh, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/shellshock-2-blood-trails/1065346/full/">scantly clad</a> babe-soldiers. Or is that just one of the frightening hallucinations...? While you should take these dates with a grain of salt some of them are accurate, specifically <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Ninja-Gaiden-2/">Ninja Gaiden 2</a></em>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv">Soul Calibur IV</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/CivilizationRevolution/">Civilization Revolution</a></em>.<br /><br />Fueling the fire of the Sega's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sonic-unleashed/">Sonic Unleashed</a></em> leak is a release date of November 4 for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and PS2. EA's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nfl-head-coach-09/">NFL Head Coach 09</a></em> is slated for a September 3 release and based on the release of the original in relation to <em>Madden</em>, the time frame seems accurate. A few titles we haven't heard much from are Bethesda Softworks' <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/RogueWarrior/">Rogue Warrior</a></em> (November 10) and Edios Interactive's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shellshock-2/">Shellshock 2: Blood Trails</a></em> (September 1), which is being developed by the team at Rebellion.<br /><br />Other dates include Sierra's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prototype/">Prototype</a></em> from Radical and the Xbox 360 exclusive <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/SplinterCellConviction/">Splinter Cell: Conviction</a></em> from Ubisoft which are dated for October 21 and October 2 respectfully.<br /><br />Remember, pre-order focused retailers tend to <em>guess-timate</em> releases on a regular basis to structure their sales goals for the final two quarters of the year. However, some of the names on this list make us really glad we have a rumor category.<br /><br />[Thanks, Travisto]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/28/rumor-gamestop-dates-protoype-splinter-cell-v-sonic-unleashed/">Rumor: GameStop dates Prototype, Splinter Cell V, Sonic Unleashed, Rogue Warrior and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Mar 2008 00:15:00 EST. After churning out several portable games based on licenses such as <em>Star Wars</em>, <em>The Simpsons</em> and <em>Alien vs. Predato</em>r, Rebellion plans to dip into more original properties, as well as those found in its 2000AD comic book business. Before that happens though, the developer will be piecing together a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sequel to <em>Shellshock</em>, Eidos' critically panned third-person Vietnam shooter. (Hey, it <a href="http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/198620.asp?q=shellshock">could be worse</a>!)<br /><br />Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley told <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=31425">GamesIndustry.biz</a> that the end result would be a "mature product" and "a bit like Jacob's Ladder or Apocalypse Now in movie terms." Despite "challenging the nature of war, the horror and why people do these horrific things to each other," Kingsley assured all that <em>Shellshock 2</em> is "looking absolutely lovely." Expect to learn more about people doing horrific things to each other in 2008.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/11/rebellion-to-develop-shellshock-sequel-for-sure/">Rebellion to develop Shellshock sequel for sure</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Dec 2007 20:00:00 EST. Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley confirmed with <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=31425">GamesIndustry.biz</a> that <em>Shellshock 2 </em>will eventually release to both the PS3 and Xbox 360 with development already underway. "It's [<em>Shellshock 2</em>] troubling - deliberately so - it's meant to be challenging the nature of war, the horror and why people do these horrific things to each other". Sounds fun.<br /><br />It'll be interesting to see if Rebellion's first next-gen attempt will work out and if they can bring something new to the war genre. Our fingers are crossed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/11/rebellion-announces-shellshock-2-for-the-360/">Rebellion announces Shellshock 2 for the 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Dec 2007 16:30:00 EST.
