Hyrule Warriors shipped a million units worldwide since it launched last fall, which equates to many, many millions of enemies taken out in the army-mashing crossover. Famitsu reported the milestone today, which we've confirmed with a Koei Tecmo Europe representative.

Koei Tecmo is celebrating like cray by publishing a set of new wallpapers based on the Wii U brawler, and they're not bad desktop bling, it has to be said. Also, there's still plenty of steam in the game's DLC train; Majora's Mask content is due to arrive next week.

And yes, the DLC features Tingle. Like absolutely everything should.
Pokemon is turning Ruby and Sapphire into gold again, after the 3DS remakes reportedly hit 7.7 million shipments worldwide. According to an announcement published by Famitsu (via Siliconera), last week's European arrival of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire provided a boost in the form of 35 percent more launch sales compared to Pokemon X and Y.

While Joystiq's Earnest "Nex" Cavalli didn't see the conversion factor in Pokemon ORAS, he did see plenty of "evolution and refinement" in the GBA games' remakes.

"Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire do little to overhaul the major pillars of a series that's long relied on the same set of classic ideas, but they don't have to," Nex concluded in his review. "The core mechanics of Pokemon remain immensely addictive, and Game Freak's latest coat of polish only enhances an already captivating adventure."
Enhanced re-release Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate has already hunted and gathered two million shipments in Japan after hitting retail shelves four days ago. Capcom specified the figure as shipments rather than direct sales to consumers, but it does include download purchases.

The early data suggests Capcom's on course to meet its projection of 3.9 million units for the 3DS action-RPG. After all, Ultimate isn't out in North America and Europe yet, and the original Monster Hunter 4 was limited to Japan. If Ultimate does go on to reach that figure it won't be far off the success of its predecessor, with Capcom noting today Monster Hunter 4 shipped more than 4.1 million copies - just to reiterate, that's in Japan alone.
Mario Kart 8 enjoyed a great attach rate with shipments of 2.82 million by the end of June, but the vast majority of its success can be attributed to existing Wii U owners and not new buyers. Nintendo shipped 510,000 units of its home console across April to June, a quarter in which the company endured a 9.924 billion yen net loss, which converts to $97.2 million.

The systems's total shipments as of June 30 rose to 6.68 million; Nintendo still expects to hit its target of 3.6 million units across the fiscal year, which would take the console to 9.77 million by March 2015. The company admitted in May the Wii U "still faces a challenging sales situation," and it will look to build off the success of Mario Kart 8 with the launch of Super Smash Bros. and its set of Amiibo figurines this fall.
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy is proving a commercial hit as well as a critical one, shipping an impressive one million copies worldwide. Square Enix announced (via Dengeki Online) the 3DS JRPG shifted 400,000 in Japan and 600,000 overseas, including download sales.

While it has its roots entrenched in old-school Final Fantasy, Bravely Default is still a new property, so the figures are strong. They've already made a similarly strong impression on president Yosuke Matsuda, who said the game's global sales made his company reconsider its approach to JRPG development.
Sonic: Lost World sales dried up in 2014; as of March 31, the Wii U and 3DS game shipped 710,000 units total since its launch in October 2013. The figures come from Sega Sammy's fiscal year report, and the company doesn't note if they include download sales or not.

Total War: Rome 2 was the company's best-performing game in the fiscal year, shifting 1.13 million copies by the end of March 2014. Football Manager 2014 placed second at 790,000 units, with Company of Heroes 2 not too far behind with 680,000 shipments. In roughly its first month on sale in Japan, PS4 and PS3 entry Yakuza Restoration shipped 390,000 units.

Sega Sammy's consumer business posted year-on-year decline for packaged software, with the company blaming low sales on the "harsh market environment." The division shipped 8.73 million packaged games across April 2013 to March 2014, down 18 percent from the previous fiscal year. Sega Sammy expects that figure to rise substantially to 12.78 million for the fiscal year ending March 2015.
Continue reading Sonic: Lost World tails off at 710,000 units shipped

Sonic: Lost World tails off at 710,000 units shipped originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 09 May 2014 18:30:00 EST. Death factory Dark Souls 2 shipped out 1.2 million copies to North America and Europe in its three weeks at retail. From Software's action-RPG launched in early March, just ahead of Bandai Namco's fiscal year-end, so the shipping figures published today are as of March 31, 2014. That means they don't include last month's PC release, nor do they include sales in Japan because From self-published the game over there.

With all that in mind, the third Souls game is showing good progress compared to its direct predecessor; Dark Souls took around a month to ship 1.5 million units worldwide. Around this time last year, From revealed total Dark Souls sales had risen to just under 2.4 million.

Looking at Bandai's Namco's end-year report, Dark Souls 2 was Bandai Namco's strongest software performer across the 12 months, although Vita and PSP entry God Eater 2 proved a strong hit in Japan with 700,000 units shipped. Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z shifted 620,000 units worldwide, while JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle hit 500,000 units ahead of its Western arrival last month.

Bandai Namco's retail and arcade games contributed 155.5 billion yen to net sales, which converts to around $1.5 billion, and the company expects to hit similar numbers this fiscal year. Overall, Bandai Namco posted a net profit of 25 billion yen ($246 million), although that is down 22.6 percent year-on-year. However, the company expects that figure to rise by 11.8 percent for the coming fiscal year.

Between Super Mario 3D World and New Super Mario Bros .U, Nintendo's mustachioed mascot (whose year it wasn't) has shipped almost 6 million units on the Wii U. In figures revealed in the big N's financial briefing, NSMBU is now at 3.89 million for its lifetime shipments, while SM3DW is at around half of that with 1.94 million. Keep in mind that 2D Mario had the head-start on its 3D sibling when it launched alongside the Wii U, not to mention a much larger presence in system bundles.

The Mario platformers are two of five Wii U games that have shipped more than a million so far this fiscal year - that's between April and December 2013, by the by. The other three launched after April, so their shipments for the period represent lifetime figures anyway.

Coming in third behind the two Marios is yet another Mario, namely Mr. Luigi Mario with Super Luigi U. The green man's standalone expansion to NSMBU shipped 1.51 million after arriving in the summer.

It wasn't just the year of Luigi because Wii Party U and Zelda: Wind Waker HD both got on in the act, shipping 1.24 million and 1.15 million respectively after their fall launches.
New Super Mario Bros. Dead Rising 3 shipped one million by the end of 2013, and looks on course to chainsaw through Capcom's initial targets. According to figures revealed by the publisher, the Xbox One launch game took total shipments for the zombicial series past the 7 million mark.

As Capcom announced today, Dead Rising 3 smashed the million mark on December 20, 2013, around a month after the Xbox One launched. While shipments don't necessarily translate into sales to consumers, Capcom will be encouraged given the target it set of 1.2 million shipped by the end of March 2014.

Like a well lopped zombie cranium, the news drops neatly alongside the arrival of the game's first DLC, the single-player prequel Operation Broken Eagle. According to Xbox's Larry Hyrb you can grab the DLC now, either for $10 on its own or as part of the $30 season pass that also covers the next three major add-ons.
Dead Rising 3 ships 1 million originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 22 Jan 2014 04:00:00 EST. Disney Magical World shipments surpassed the 500,000 mark in Japan, proving that as far as the 3DS game is concerned, it's not such a small world after all. Alright, we admit we shoehorned that reference in, so try not to take the Mickey.

The news (via Gematsu) comes just after Disney announced the game for North America; for the record, it's been out in Japan since August 2013, albeit under the less catchy but even cheerier moniker of Disney Magic Castle: My Happy Life. As for what such a happy life comprises, it's everything from meeting your favorite Disney characters and dressing up like them, to running a cafe and cultivating crops.

If you can't wait to slip into a Minnie dress, the good news is that Disney Magical World hits retail shelves and the eShop in North America on April 11.
Disney Magical World ships 500,000 in Japan originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 15 Jan 2014 10:00:00 EST. Monster Hunter 4 continues to capture big numbers in Japan, with shipments (including downloadable sales) passing the 4 million mark at swift pace. The 3DS action-RPG gobbled up 3 million shipments a month after hitting Japan's retail shelves, and took just seven weeks to add another million to that burgeoning figure.

Japan's love affair with all things Monster Hunter is evidenced by the series' total sales surpassing 28 million, but how many of those sales come from outside the country remains unclear. As does the matter of Monster Hunter 4 heading west or not; Capcom is still keeping shush about that.
Monster Hunter 4 shipments rise to 4 million originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 04 Dec 2013 10:00:00 EST. The PlayStation 3 passed the threshold of 80 million units shipped on November 2, just ahead of its successor's launch next week. Given the figure was 70 million this time last year, Sony shipped around 10 million PS3 consoles across the prior 12 months.

To compare the PS3 with its rivals, the Xbox 360 just beat it to the 80 mill mark back in September. Of course, both consoles still sit way behind Nintendo's Wii, which reached the nine figures of 100 million in June.

Another item of note from Sony's announcement is staggering, although it's difficult to quantify exactly. According to the company, the number of "software titles" released for the PS3 is 4,332 as of the end of September 2013 - that's excluding downloadable games.

We'd have to think there's a fair few different versions of games in there, but it's still a huge number, even if the console is coming up to its 7th birthday. More than three million shipments a month after it was released shows Japan is very much in love with Monster Hunter 4. The monster figure includes all download sales of the 3DS game, which was released in the country on September 14. To top it off, the series' total sales are now more than a whopping 26 million.

You only have to wander around Tokyo with a 3DS to realize how doolally Japan is for Capcom's action-RPG. 53 of the 158 people that I StreetPass-ed during our Tokyo Game Show trip were playing Monster Hunter 4 (yup, I just counted it), and that was the week after it came out. A fair proportion of the rest were clinging on to MH3 Ultimate.
Monster Hunter 4 ships 3 million in a month originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 15 Oct 2013 11:00:00 EST. The figure is confirmed as being "sell-in," meaning it represents the amount of units sold to retailers rather than to customers. Sony also revealed Move, the PS3's motion controller, is now up to 15 million shipped as of November 11.

The announcement comes shortly after Microsoft confirmed Xbox 360 reached the same milestone in its latest earnings report, The current-gen home console leader is the Wii, up to 97.2 million as of September 30.

Sony also announced worldwide sales of PS3 software is now over 595 million. A bit of quick maths says that equates to around 8 and a half games per console shipped. As for what exactly constitutes half a game, we'll leave the suggestions to you.
Continue reading PS3 up to 70 million shipped worldwide, Move over 15 million

PS3 up to 70 million shipped worldwide, Move over 15 million originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 16 Nov 2012 08:30:00 EST. Namco Bandai is expanding its captive audience for Dark Souls, the grim action-RPG that critics and fans like, loathe and then love. According to developer From Software in Japan, 1.5 million vectors for its brutal challenge have shipped to stores worldwide.

North America has received the largest Stockholm Syndrome shipment of 620,000 units, followed by Europe with 470,000 and then Japan (370,000), where Dark Souls was published by From exclusively on PlayStation 3. The game's gauntlet landed in Asia last on October 18th, shipping 40,000 copies to that region.

We'll be keeping an eye out for Dark Souls' commercial performance in North America once the NPD releases the next round of statistics. How effective is word of mouth, we wonder, when it's whispered seductively through prison bars?
Dark Souls ships 1.5 million worldwide originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 02 Nov 2011 11:03:00 EST. Capcom sent out a new chart today, containing information about the number of games it shipped for various platforms in the past, and -- more interestingly -- the number of games it plans to ship in the next fiscal year (through March 2012), along with estimated shipment numbers. The company has massive confidence in its 16-title PS3 lineup, expecting to ship 8 million units of those games.

Capcom's Xbox 360 lineup, on the other hand, is 14 games strong and only projected to ship 4.7 million copies. And now we'll skip a few sentences of hypotheses and just say that of course the difference is Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD.

The chart also shares the sad news that Capcom does not plan to ship any new GameCube titles in the next year.
Capcom expects big PS3 sales this year originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 23 May 2011 11:55:00 EST. A member of the Sony PR team recently noted on Twitter that the White Knight Chronicles series has shipped a million units globally. Siliconera points out that the figure covers White Knight Chronicles, White Knight Chronicles EX Edition, White Knight Chronicles: International Edition (US/EU), White Knight Chronicles for PSP and White Knight Chronicles 2.
White Knight Chronicles 2 was recently announced for North America, and both it and the PSP game were announced for Europe. Eleven years after Marvel vs. Capcom 2, people are still interested in seeing Ryu getting smashed by the Hulk. Capcom announced today that it has shipped two million copies of universe mashup fighter Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds worldwide. Capcom said that the release of MvC3 was "capitalizing on the resurgence of the fighting game boom that began last year" -- you know, the one Capcom started with Street Fighter IV.

These shipments, the company states, zlxo outpace the performance of Marvel vs. Capcom 2. In fact, that game doesn't appear on Capcom's list of million-selling titles at all, suggesting that the sequel outperformed it by a great deal.
Marvel vs. Capcom 3 ships 2 million worldwide originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 30 Mar 2011 10:25:00 EST. Perhaps looking around for some good news to mention in a not particularly good-newsy time, Square Enix announced that as of the end of December, Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies has shipped 5.3 million copies worldwide since its Japanese release in July 2009. Most of those copies were shipped to Japan, of course -- 1.02 million copies have been accounted for outside of Japan in the last year.
According to the announcement, it's the first Dragon Quest game to pass 5 million copies shipped, and that makes it the best-selling (or best-shipping, we suppose) Dragon Quest game ever, obviously.
Square Enix ships 5.3 million copies of Dragon Quest IX originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 17 Mar 2011 11:36:00 EST. Konami has announced the apparent milestone shipment of one million copies of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow to retailers across the US and Europe since the game's October 5 release. While the publisher didn't specify just how many of those copies have actually been sold, president Shinji Hirano patted his company on the back with a few vague words of encouragement, saying in a statement, "The remarkable sales achieved in such a short time are a true testament of the work and dedication that went into this project."

Clearly, for Konami to have shipped so many copies to retail, ongoing sales of Lords of Shadow must be reasonably strong, though the title failed to crack the top ten in US software sales last month, and it only lasted two weeks in the UK's top-ten rankings. But Konami is still declaring a victory for the series' "rebirth," adding that it's "extremely pleased at the positive response seen" to developer MercurySteam's effort. The game's Japanese debut is scheduled for December.
Continue reading Konami ships 1 million Castlevania: Lords of Shadow copies, coy about sales

Konami ships 1 million Castlevania: Lords of Shadow copies, coy about sales originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 22 Nov 2010 21:00:00 EST. The budget-priced title was released in North America and Japan earlier this week and is in stores today in Europe. The next step? Sell all these copies.

Capcom has put all-time shipments of Street Fighter console games at more than 28 million units worldwide, as of March 31, 2010 (so not counting the initial SSFIV shipment). The publisher did not clarify how many of those copies were upgraded re-releases of Street Fighter games.
Capcom ships 1 million Super Street Fighter IV copies for initial retail run originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 30 Apr 2010 09:57:00 EST. GameDaily reports that the Nintendo World store in New York City's Rockefeller Center gets new shipments of the Wii every morning. The GameDaily reporter says that, on two recent visits, the store had "at least 20 [Wiis] lined up behind the main counter. Just Wii boxes waiting for the next person in line."

Well, either that reporter had some good timing or the word has gotten out among New York's Nintendo fans, because WCBS Radio reports that 200 people were camped outside the store in the early morning before opening this Tuesday. One waiting New Yorker told the interviewer that she had ventured all the way out to Richmond, Va. to try and find a system. We bet Greenpeace would blame Nintendo for all the gas burned on the trip, too.

For those of you who can't quite make it to New York City, you can always try using ZapTXT to alert you the moment when your local store gets shipments. In what should be good news for anyone who wants to purchase a DS, Nintendo announced that they're upgrading their shipping forecasts for the next fiscal year. They expect to ship 26 million DS systems, up from an earlier projection of 22 million. Software shipment forecasts have been increased as well, up from 130 million to 140 million units. All this time, it was possible for Nintendo to ship more systems?

At this point, we imagine the market for more DS systems consists mostly of double-dippers and Japanese people who have been waiting in line for most of the last year.
Nintendo raising expected shipment quantity for 2008 originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 27 Jul 2007 09:50:00 EST. Nintendo has revealed that they will be ramping up production of both the DS and Wii. Previous Wii shipments were forecast at 14 million units for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2008. Nintendo is now looking to pile 2 and a half million more units on top, bringing the estimate to 16.5 million. Software for the system has also received a push, as previous estimates put the figure around 55 million. This has been raised to 72 million.

Are you still having trouble finding a Wii? Are you hopeful that this surge will help you in your quest to find one?
Nintendo ups the ante on DS/Wii shipments originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 26 Jul 2007 13:05:00 EST. Really, the site's a lot better when you can care about the screenshots and game announcements. Now, we realize the Wii can be hard to find, so we understand why some of you haven't been enjoying the site in its fullest.

A Wii Fanboy friend just reported that his Target in Edmond, Oklahoma was advertising Wii consoles for sale Tuesday. We don't know how many, or if this applies to all Target stores. But, just in case, wait until Tuesday morning to go buy toothpaste, and check for Wiis while you're there. If you're the type of roguish loner who doesn't need an excuse to go somewhere, just go there Tuesday.

Anyone else see Wii announcements in their Targets? The weekly ad has a listing for the Wii, but no indication of whether or not it'll be in stores.

[Update: The ad might actually have been referring to today, in which case they're all gone! Might as well go check, we suppose. A couple of readers found them in stores today. This time, it's for a completely different reason.

GameStop's COO Dan DeMatteo posited that since Nintendo has met their sales goal for this fiscal year, they're putting off the next shipment until the next year starts, which is April 1st. DeMatteo expects to see Wii supplies pick up right about then. We hope he's right! Not necessarily about the conspiracy thing, but about the increase in Wii shipments. The 1st isn't that far away!

[Via GoNintendo]
Gamestop COO: Nintendo holding back Wii supplies originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 27 Mar 2007 16:25:00 EST. Or a totally mean waste of your time. We don't really know.

Tipster Memnoch tells us he saw a handwritten sign in a Wal-Mart electronics department in Fairfax, VA telling employees to hold Wii shipments for April 1st, when a new advertising circular would announce their availability.

Our readers have yet to lead us astray with these shipment tips, but we aren't 100% sure about it. It's not that we don't trust Memnoch-- it would just be foolish to take a rumor involving April 1st at face value. Hence the more skeptical, pensive Matthew Lesko. Good luck if you check this out!
Rumor: Wal-Mart holding Wiis for April 1st originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 27 Mar 2007 12:15:00 EST. Newly released figures today revealed that the PSP shipped 1.76 million units the holiday period from October to December. While that's certainly not a small amount, it's dwarfed by the incredible performance of the PSP the year before, where the system shipped 6.22 million units.

In spite of significantly weakening hardware performance, gamers are still buying games for the system, much to Sony's relief. Software sales were up 24% for this quarter compared to last year, reaching 21.2 million units.

Sony CFO, Nobuyuki Oneda commented on the surprising plummet in PSP sales by stating that Sony will not give up on the platform. He noted that Sony is still implementing new ideas for the constantly evolving system. For the sake of PSP fans everywhere, let's hope that they can reinvigorate the public opinion of the system.

[Via IGN]
PSP shipments down 75%; Sony refuses to give up originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 30 Jan 2007 13:38:00 EST. For example, Sony revealed their quarterly results, and revealed that yes, they finally made money. But, that money certainly didn't come from the games division. Rather, sales of digital cameras, cell phones, and the theatrical release of The DaVinci Code seemed to pour the cash into Sony's pockets. The games division has seen a 29.1 percent drop in sales and operating revenue for this quarter, and the operating losses have increased this quarter to $232.2 million.

Sales for PlayStation 2's notably aged hardware and software predictably went down. Unfortunately, it appears that demand for PSP hardware has dropped worldwide, resulting in approximately 3% less shipments this quarter (note that shipments and sales are two different figures). However, shipments for software have nearly doubled, reaching 9.1 million (an increase of 4.2 million).

While hardware may have seen a small dip, that software figure shows a still-impressive run for the PSP. It appears that the games division will be making most of its money from the PSP for now, as analysts predict that PS3 manufacturing costs will cost the company $2 billion within a year.

[Via Gamasutra]
PSP shipments down, but software gaining momentum originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 28 Jul 2006 13:12:00 EST.
