Dragon Quest IX players will notice right away that this remake looks different, with a huge avatar on the world map and 2D enemy sprites in battle.

No puzzles were required to get into this treasure chest, however.

Along with the treasure chest, Nintendo sent a Link t-shirt. In a separate mailing, the company sent another wooden gewgaw: a train whistle, just like the one you got from any museum gift shop ever. In a truly superhuman display of discipline, we've managed to leave the whistle untooted so future Joyswag winners won't be subject to blogger cooties.

We'll get through this quickly so we can hurry along to the important stuff -- a recent 1UP interview with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves creative director Amy Hennig and Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells is rife with details about the highly anticipated sequel. They touch on a lot of aspects of the game that'll really resonate with series fans -- things like the ramifications of mercenary murder, whether the player will be able to choose between Drake's two female accomplices, and the actual length of the sequel (spoiler alert: It's going to be bigger than the first game).

However, the savoriest meats in the interview come at the end, when the two finally start discussing the degree of tucked-innedness that is applied to Nathan Drake's shirt. Tim Schafer was the first to notice this phenomenon in the first game, coining the phrase "half-tuck." Now it seems the folks at Naughty Dog are kicking it up to notches unknown. Get this -- front of the shirt? Almost fully tucked in. Back of the shirt? Half-tucked. Put it all together? Three-quarters-tucked. Oh yeah -- this baby's got "Game of the Year" written all over it.

The shirts look nice enough when worn normally: a "let your darkside out" slogan adorns the front amid zombie silhouettes, and the game's logo occupies the back.

But the inside of each shirt has a special graphic printed upside-down, so that when you flip the shirt over your head, you become a zombie. This is the most amazing advance in swag technology we've seen in years. If you want one (and you do, because wow), you'll have to visit Capcom's special Darkside Chronicles demo area at Comic-Con and try out the co-op mode.

Yesterday, we learned that it would include a lovely tin and an artbook, and now GameStop has just revealed that copies pre-ordered from the retailer will also come with a free t-shirt! In our opinion, the shirt looks pretty great (we're assuming it's not all dithered in real life like it is in the picture), even with the logo on the side, and even with the added baggage of identifying you as a GameStop shopper. The offer is valid for both in-store and online pre-orders.

It costs $24.95 plus shipping, which is actually quite a bit more than the game costs -- but it's entirely worth it when you consider that the "proprietary MegaWeave[TM] technology provides improved gaming performance in Mega Man(R) 9 and all other Capcom titles." Another benefit to being one of the lucky few to attend the Square Enix DKΣ3713 event, besides getting to play new games and see trailers and be surrounded by journalists (what do you mean that's no benefit?) is that awesome exclusive merchandise is available for purchase.

Seen above: two strangely fashion-backward shirts for the very fashionable The World Ends with You. They feature the date of the event and the TWEWY skull logo on the back, and an assertion that "I PARTICIPATE IN THIS GAME" on the front. We must admit that we're charmed by the boldness of the shirt. Sometimes you want to wear art, and sometimes you just want to be a huge nerd.

Japan's premier Nintendo-related t-shirt company, The King of Games, has turned their attention to a recent game, a change from their usual (justified) Famicom-era subject matter. The results, as always, are expensive. And worth it.

The company has started selling two new handmade shirts based on Super Mario Galaxy: the "Peach Castle" shirt seen above and a second, excellent shirt featuring Bowser Jr.'s airship, which we're pretty sure is the best thing ever to feature Bowser Jr. The shirts sell for ?5,800 ($54) in adult sizes, and ?3,990 ($37) in totally cute "The King of Games Jr." kids' sizes.

Remember that Mega Man 9 boxart/shirt we featured last week during E3? Of course you do, how could you ever forget its magnificent image? Apparently, I Am 8-bit artist Gerald de Jesus was commissioned for the homage to Mega Man's packaging designs of yore.

The shirts were originally created exclusively for Capcom's staff, including director Hironobu Takeshita and producer Keiji Inafune, with a limited run of four. But after seeing fan reactions to the astounding apparel, the publisher has decided to make t-shirts with the Mega Man 9 cover art "available for purchase soon" in the States. Oh, wondrous day!

Let's all hope Capcom decides to make a lot more than just four shirts this time!

Ultrasound graphics synthesis! 8-bit fidelity engine!

We have always been of the opinion that even downloadable games should have boxart. Capcom agreed, putting together this mix of the original Mega Man game's North American packaging and Mega Man 2's PAL cover. The resulting Mega Man 9 art showed up at the publisher's E3 booth on what looked like an iron-on transfer shirt.

Unfortunately, only a few of the shirts were made for internal staff, and Capcom doesn't intend to give any away. At least we have this photo (taken by 1UP's Jeremy Parish)! Check out that huge M on his belt!

For everything leading up to the DS, this shirt displays all of Nintendo's hardware we've known and loved. It's really only missing the DS and Wiimote, but for us nerds who just love Nintendo more than breathing (we pretend it's a game Nintendo invented when we were born and we're maintaining the high score), the above shirt might be the best piece of clothing ever. If we owned this DS Lite and the shirt, we'd feel like we lived a meaningful and good life.

The problem is that it's only available in Large, meaning that bigger and smaller folks will have a tough time making the shirt work.

The Japanese site for the Pokémon 151 shirt series has opened, revealing in full the designs for all four shirts in the first set. We think it's interesting to see how different the styles are among the shirts: the Mewtwo and Articuno shirts look like promotional apparel for some European sports team, the Cubone shirt resembles a tattoo more than anything else, and the Hypno shirt has an interesting silhouette style.

Oh, and just in case you thought the shirt was a bit creepy before: the full design reveals that he is kidnapping children! Either that or two kids have just decided to follow the mind-controlling monster.

Here's something unexpected: a line of Pokémon clothing that we wouldn't mind letting ourselves show people! The adult-focused "Pokémon 151" series of T-shirts presents selected Pokemans from the Red/Blue era in bold, artsy, The King of Games-style designs.

Four shirt designs, featuring Hypno, Mewtwo, Articuno, and Cubone, are now on sale in Japanese Pokémon Center locations. The official website for the line will open on the 26th. In the meantime, we're left battling the bizarre feeling that we might ... like a shirt with Hypno on it. Another picture, showing partial images of all four designs, follows the break.

UNIQLO isn't the only place to pick up Metal Gear Solid 4 tees. Hot Topic has not just one, but two, t-shirts for your perusal. The first (pictured, right) proudly displays the dissolving Snake used in the game's various promotions. The image is supposed to represent Snake at the end of his journey ... going back to the DNA that created him. Powerful stuff.

The second features Shinkawa's art of Old Snake's old mug. Both shirts are available for $19 each (unless you need a super-extra large size. Then you pay more!).

It turns out that staring at red-on-black images isn't so bad when you don't have to cram your face into a machine to do so. This shirt, created for German Virtual Boy fansite vr32.de, almost makes the Virtual Boy's reviled display palette appear ... artistic. As if Nintendo limited the display of the system because it would look cool, and not for technological reasons. It looks great on a shirt, anyway.

It features a Virtual-Boy-as-octopus design on the front and Planet Virtual Boy branding on the back. We doubt that many were made, but for the moment they're available for 17 Euros plus shipping (which would probably be a lot!) by contacting Planet Virtual Boy's DrAetzn.

The excellent, and affordable, line of Sega shirts from Japanese retailer UNIQLO are now available for purchase via the company's website. Sure, they only deliver within the United Kingdom, but that's a big step closer to, say, Texas, just to name a random location where someone might want to buy a shirt with the House of the Dead 4 logo on it.

Besides, we're mature enough to let our UK friends know about things they may enjoy, even if it doesn't benefit us in the least. Or if, among us, it just benefits Chris, as is the case this time. The Japanese shirts, by the way, come in Sonic-emblazoned bottles -- no idea if UNIQLO is doing the same in the UK.

Publishers in South Korea are pulling out all the stops to make sure gamers pick up their launch titles when the Wii officially debuts in the country on April 26. Though these aren't as glamorous (or as scandalous) as the Zack & Wiki pearl necklaces, Tecmo is giving away free shirts featuring characters Kooh and Arin with preorders for Swing Golf Pangya 2nd Shot.

Interestingly, the golf title will be released in Korea four months after the game arrived in the states, despite being a console spin-off of a Korean MMO. At least they'll get free shirts to make up for the delay! And they're still getting it before Europe (July 4th)!

The King of Games' "Get Ready" shirts, like all of their shirts, are mindblowingly awesome. The designs are attractive and interesting -- much more so than most gaming shirts. To us, they look a lot cooler than most non-gaming-related shirts. The new shirts from Meatbun are similarly spectacular and arty, while also being undeniably about video games.

Our discussion question comes in two parts: first, is it worth the premium "fashion" prices to get awesome, fashionable gaming shirts? Second, can a video game shirt be cool? We don't mind being visibly nerdy to an extent (though we have a rigorous Shirt Nerdiness Rubric), but then we don't really have to leave the house that often.

We've been drooling over the pictures of The King of Games' "Get Ready" line of t-shirts since 2006. Now we might have the chance to drool over an actual shirt! The company has announced that they're now selling the gorgeous t-shirts, featuring designs celebrating iconic Sega classics After Burner, OutRun, and Fantasy Zone, worldwide.

Unfortunately, shirts of this mindblowing quality come at a premium. KOG is selling the Fantasy Zone and OutRun shirts for 5040 yen ($50) each, and the After Burner design for 5775 yen ($57).

On an unrelated note, would anyone like to donate to the "Buy JC a Fantasy Zone shirt" fund? Don't mind the name -- the money goes to feed orphans or something.

There are many reasons to desire a shirt emblazoned with the countenance of Sega's spiky, azure mascot -- perhaps as a celebratory measure following the formal announcement of Sonic's upcoming 2D/3D adventure, Sonic Unleashed. Maybe you want to want to make your own personal Jaleelitude known to the world. Or just maybe, you want to warn could-be attackers that you've seen the Sonic PSAs, and that you know how to protect your bathing suit area from uncomfortable touches.

Such a shirt exists, as do a number of other garments featuring characters from other Sega mainstays (such as Virtua Fighter and House of the Dead) from a Japanese clothier named UNIQLO -- unfortunately, said tees are only available in Japan. As part of a "unique" t-shirt line, Japanese clothing retailer UNIQLO has unveiled a series of t-shirts celebrating three of Sega's iconic series: Sonic the Hedgehog, The House of the Dead and Virtua Fighter. The shirts feature simple, iconic designs (like Sonic's face, seen here, or individual VF characters), come in multiple colors, and cost only 1500 yen ($14.65) each. In short, they're just the kind of thing we'd like to see.

We'd say that, as usual, these are only available in Japan, but UNIQLO actually has stores in the UK, as well as one in New York. It is, then, possible that these have made it outside Japan, or may soon! We're just glad to be reminded of a time when Sega fandom was possible.

Gaming apparel. It's often only attainable through various specialty websites or other, more dastardly means. It appears that things are about to change, at least regarding indie games, as retailer Target is now carrying gaming apparel. Even better, each shirt only costs $12 and comes with a full version of the game. As you can see in the above picture, we think World of Goo is awesome. Also, you can see other gaming-related shirts.

As for whether your local Target is supporting this, unless you live in California, we can't tell you. Target has, for some reason, only included a list of CA stores carrying the merch. For that list, head past the break.

Next time you're running around your local Target, keep an eye out for some indie gaming love. The Experimental Gameplay Project has recently launched its own clothing line: EGPApparel. The shirts are appearing in Targets all across the United States, each featuring a particular independently-developed title. As if that wasn't filled with enough awesome on its own, each shirt includes the full version of the indie game. That's an awesome t-shirt, and an awesome game, for only $12 USD.

There are currently eight shirts in production, featuring indie titles like Tower of Goo, Big Vine, Gravity Head, Gish, and more. According to Tower of Goo developer Kyle Gabler, the shirts are appearing in Target stores nationwide, but have not yet reached every last chain location. Of course, the more people who run out and feverishly buy all eight designs, the more likely Target will be to ramp up distribution. We're just saying.

It's a handmade tunic accented with bits of a licensed Dr. Mario fabric. Obviously, at $60, it's a little pricier than most of the gaming-related items like this we've seen, but in our esteemed opinion, it's as incredible (or more so!) than some. It's also nice and stretchy -- the better to fit a variety of sizes.

Japanese game shirt maker extraordinaire The King of Games is producing a special shirt in celebration of Sega's newest mascot revival. This NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams shirt comes in black or white and features glow-in-the-dark elements (NiGHTS and the text area on the black shirt, the moon and stars on the white shirt). Unfortunately, it not only costs 4,200 yen ($38), it's only available in Japan. Also, preorders for the thing opened two days ago and most sizes are already sold out.

Does that translate into interest in the game? We hope so! Does it translate into inconsolable sadness for us, sitting in stupid America with no NiGHTS shirts? Definitely.

We still haven't heard word on whether or not Nintendo will ever bring Rhythm Tengoku to the states (Highly unlikely), but Sega has been keeping the rhythm-action title going in Japan with its GBA-to-arcade port and, according to this new find, UFO catchers filled with Rhythm-Tengoku-themed prizes!

Provided that you're proficient with maneuvering a claw to pick up crap, you'll be able to win a number of brightly-colored, long-sleeved shirts with the minigame collection's characters screen-printed on them, as well as pillows shaped like Rhythm Tengoku's iconic, hairy onions. Since we've never been given the opportunity to play Mother 3, we aren't really able to gauge the thematic radness of Edit Mode's new Mother 3 "Emergency" shirt. Still, just as we know that all shirts sold on The King of Games are awesome, we have an inherent knowledge that everything about this shirt is wonderful, except the $50 price tag. We know that the design is pretty nice, and that the warning text on the back is adorable.

The other new Mother shirt, featuring a logo for "The Sharks," comes from Mother 2 a.k.a. Earthbound, and is therefore easily verifiable as being great. You can totally pretend you're in an arcade-occupying, hula-hoop wielding gang led by a smilin', knifin' Frank Fly.
