It's the Xbox controller with a twist! As <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/30/rumor-microsoft-prepping-new-xbox-360-controller-with-improved/">indicated</a> by our source, Microsoft has announced a redesigned Xbox 360 wireless controller. The new gamepad will debut in a matte silver color with gray-toned face buttons and analog sticks with a more dramatic concave shape. Key to the new design is a "transforming" D-pad that changes from a semi-flush disc to a pop-out plus sign by twisting the D-pad clockwise. (Check out Major Nelson demonstrating the transformation in the video after the break.)<br />
<br />
Microsoft offers this suggestion for how you might use the two D-pad configurations: "Select the traditional plus for distinct cardinal direction movement in games like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/halo-reach"><em>Halo: Reach</em></a> to change weapons and perform complicated combinations and deadly finishing moves in <em>Street Fighter</em> games, or rotate the D-pad to the disc format for sweeping motions in games such as <em>Pro Evolution Soccer 2011</em>."<br />
<br />
The redesigned controller will only be available with the Play &amp; Charge Kit. The bundle will launch on November 9 for $64.99.<br />

Looking for a cheap way to stave off that post-holiday depression that we all immediately experience as soon as the last present is unwrapped? (You <em>do</em> experience that, right?) Microsoft's got new Xbox 360 owners covered -- from December 24 to December 28, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/1-vs-100"><em>1 vs. 100</em></a> will be <a href="http://gamerscoreblog.com/press/archive/2009/12/22/JD987.aspx">free-to-play for Xbox Live Silver subscribers</a>. What's more, the show on December 26 will be deeply saturated with holiday spirit, featuring "Holiday-themed trivia, a decked out set, and laughs with Chris Cashman."<br />
<br />
If you're still on the fence about subscribing to Live, you should give this free <em>1 vs. 100</em> trial a shot. After all, nothing can better distract you from the fact that you won't get to open more intricately ribboned gifts for another 364 days like taking part in an interactive game show.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/22/1-vs-100-free-for-xbox-live-silver-members-from-dec-24-28/">1 vs. 100 free for Xbox Live Silver members from Dec. 24 - 28</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 Dec 2009 18:18:00 EST. <em>Always</em> read the fine print. Part of a footnote from this morning's Xbox 360 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/27/microsoft-confirms-xbox-360-price-cut-300-elite-on-friday-25/">price cut</a> <a href="http://gamerscoreblog.com/press/archive/2009/08/27/vcx456.aspx">press release</a> bore this little oh-by-the-way: "Xbox Live Gold Membership will be required for Twitter and Facebook when they are available." When <a href="http://www.mcvuk.com/news/35592/Xbox-360-Twitter-claims-incorrect">MCV</a> followed up on the tucked-away tidbit, a Microsoft spokesperson suggested that the press release's statement was "inaccurate" and that the company was "still formulating its plans" for integrating the social networking services into Xbox Live. A few short hours later, those plans appear to be formulated.<br /> <br />A Microsoft representative has clarified for Joystiq, "Facebook and Twitter on Xbox Live will be free to Gold members, with a free trial period also available for Silver members." Specific details on what's included in the trial are not currently available, but clearly Microsoft is continuing its policy to reward Gold subscribers for, well, <em>their subscriptions,</em> despite what must be a tempting motivation to make Twitter and Facebook free-for-all features. Social networking's <em>the</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/23/pachter-last-fm-twitter-the-most-important-features-of-e3/">killer app</a>, after all (right?) -- and Microsoft could use some new ammo in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ps3-slim">console war</a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/facebook-twitter-on-xbox-360/">Facebook / Twitter on Xbox 360</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/facebook-twitter-on-xbox-360/#2064830"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/twitter-xbox-3-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/facebook-twitter-on-xbox-360/#2064829"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/twitter-xbox-2-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/facebook-twitter-on-xbox-360/#2064828"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/twitter-xbox-1-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/facebook-twitter-on-xbox-360/#2064824"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/newsfeedadd-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/facebook-twitter-on-xbox-360/#2064823"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/inbox-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/27/xbox-lives-twitter-and-facebook-free-for-gold-for-trial-by-sil/">Xbox Live's Twitter and Facebook free for Gold, for trial by Silver members</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Aug 2009 18:10:00 EST. Tired of your black DualShock 3 controller? Well, it looks like SCEA may finally start introducing new colors of the rumble-ready PS3 controller. Games retailer <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=74491&amp;affID=77777&amp;sourceID=aOUs5qjvzDc-fllkFPwhLC9QWr4yzC0KJA">GameStop</a> now features a listing for a silver DualShock 3 controller, with a MSRP of $54.99 and a June 24th release.<br /><br />A retail listing is far from official confirmation, but GameStop has been a rather reliable source of early product listings. We're all for controller color diversity, so we're hoping this one is real.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=358832">NeoGAF</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/17/silver-dualshock-3-controller-spotted-at-gamestop/">Silver DualShock 3 controller spotted at GameStop</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Apr 2009 15:00:00 EST. <br />Remember those <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/limited-edition-lites-a-history-of-sadness/891304/">Club Nintendo "Premium" DS Lites</a> that were <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/club-nintendo-giving-away-shiny-things/">revealed back in June</a>? Well, Nintendo has now sent out the limited edition systems to the 3,000 lucky winners, and Japanese blogger Hatimaki decided to torture us by smugly photographing his Premium Silver model, which just so happens to be <em>unbelievably, blindingly shiny</em>. But pfft, like we care! Even though evidence for its arrival had become <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/28/some-stores-selling-silver-systems-soon-says-sale-sheet/"><em>overwhelming</em></a>, Nintendo has officially confirmed that the Metallic Silver DS Lite will become a dazzling, shiny reality in the U.S. on September 7th.<br /><br />Not including <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/limited-edition-lites-a-history-of-sadness/">limited editions</a>, this will become the seventh color in the North American DS rainbow, though it has been available in Europe, Japan, and South Korea for around a year; and very nice it is too, in this European blogger's opinion. This weekend's rumor of a Gloss Silver Lite releasing the U.S. this fall has put the tingle into our spider-sense. If we're getting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/e3-2008-predictions-nintendo-ds/903715/">another new color</a> -- and we just got one, as well as Europe getting several -- does that clinch it? Will there be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/14/counterpoint-no-redesign-this-year/">no redesign</a> announcement this week at E3? <br /><br />Of course, Nintendo may well announce a new DS model, and simply hold the release until next year, but it still seems like the thing that would put a damper on sales of a new color. Or does the (rumored) release of a new shade mean nothing at all?<br /><br />See also: Our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/e3-2008-predictions-nintendo-ds/903711/">redesign prediction</a>, as well as all our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/e3-2008-predictions-nintendo-ds/">other predictions</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/ds-daily-if-silver-then-no-redesign/">DS Daily: If silver, then no redesign?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Jul 2008 08:00:00 EST. The Gloss Silver DS Lite has been shining in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/17/nintendo-of-europe-promotes-their-product-to-brits-and-jealous-b/">Europe</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/30/two-new-ds-lite-colors-for-japan/">Japan</a> for some time now, but it hasn't made an appearance in North America as of yet. Well, that's not entirely true: half of the Metallic Silver DS Lite makes up the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/guitar-hero-ds-bundle-is-almost-perfect/"><em>Guitar Hero: On Tour</em></a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/limited-edition-lust-a-visual-journey/">special edition</a> system. But we never got <em>the back part</em>.<br /><br />An unspecified "source" has suggested to GoNintendo's RawMeatCowboy that this tragic omission will be corrected this September, with the release of an all-silver DS. That sounds perfectly plausible to us, especially since its partner in shininess, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/16/metallic-rose-ds-lite-a-reality/">Metallic Rose</a>, has been released. <br /><br />It's nice to have such a low-impact rumor so close to E3. We may get a new color, and that would be nice; if not, that's okay too! It's certainly a lot tamer than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/11/nintendo-e3-2008-press-conference-lets-play-bingo/">all those other rumors</a> we've been dealing with.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/12/rumor-usa-to-be-awarded-silver/">Rumor: USA to be awarded Silver</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 12 Jul 2008 14:00:00 EST. As if <span style="font-style: italic;">Mario &amp; Sonic at the Olympic Games</span> wasn't already home to enough <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blaze_the_Cat">abysmal</a> <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_the_hedgehog">characters</a>, a group of hackers have discovered a way to unlock numerous other unused playable characters in the title, including Silver the Hedgehog, Jet the -- <span style="font-style: italic;">ugh </span>-- Hawk, and Donkey Kong (who would have been a welcome addition, actually). Birdo is also available, though comes with some sort of <span style="font-style: italic;">hideous facial deformity</span>, as though the model never had its nose finished. It looks kind of <span style="font-style: italic;">wrong</span>, truth be told. Not as wrong as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/27/taking-a-love-for-birdo-too-far/">this</a>, mind.<br /><br />There are plenty of other background characters that can be played with (some of which are fairly obscure), though only in certain events (such as trampolining). These include Shy Guy, Toad, the gut-churning <a href="http://sega.wikia.com/wiki/Charmy">Charmy</a>, Espio, Cream, Boo, Bullet Bill (!), Goomba (!!), "Heroes Enemy 1," "Heroes Enemy 2," "SA1 Monkey," and -- nooo! -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/13/you-will-love-big-the-cat/">Big the Cat</a>. Sprint through the tape and into <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-sonic-at-the-olympic-games/856006/full/">our gallery</a> for a couple more screens.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-sonic-at-the-olympic-games/">Mario &amp; Sonic at the Olympic Games</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-sonic-at-the-olympic-games/#856006"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/06/800px-mariosonicolympicsdk-cg-jun11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-sonic-at-the-olympic-games/#856005"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/06/800px-mariosonicolympicsbirdo-cg-jun11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-sonic-at-the-olympic-games/#856004"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/06/800px-mariosonicolympicsjet-cg-jun11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-sonic-at-the-olympic-games/#433842"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/10/msog_10910ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-sonic-at-the-olympic-games/#433841"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/10/msog_10908ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/11/birdo-and-silver-and-jet-and-donkey-kong-at-the-olympic-games/">Birdo &amp; Silver &amp; Jet &amp; Donkey Kong at the Olympic Games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Jun 2008 08:45:00 EST. We love our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/10/red-black-ds-goes-brainless-in-october/">two</a>-<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/25/new-blue-ds-lite-confirmed/">tone</a> DSes around these parts, and the model that will ship as part of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/activision-announces-guitar-hero-ds-lite-bundle-new-tony-hawk/"><em>Guitar Hero: On Tour</em> bundle</a> is especially<em> delicious</em>. Frankly, silver and black will always be a winning combination. It's a color scheme that <em>cannot fail</em> to look classy and sleek.<br /><br />Alas, whoever designed this model didn't stop at just silver and black, but also decided to slap that ugly transfer onto the DS's upper lid. We appreciate <em>some</em> <em>Guitar Hero</em> branding was probably required for this, but couldn't it have been a little ... subtler? "For those times that you are away from your beloved gaming system, at least you can pretend to be fighting your evil nemesis, Gargamel."<br /><br />Rather than <a href="http://www.cufflinks.com/wicu.html">referencing</a> the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gargamel">arch-nemesis of the Smurfs</a>, we presume the folks at Cufflinks.com actually meant to say <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imlyVV0yYKo">Ganon</a>. Still, we'll forgive them the odd error, because hey, these sterling silver Wiimote cufflinks are pretty much the dapperest accessories we've ever seen for Wii lovers. They're fully reversible thanks to the tiny silver nunchuk on the end, and are just about discreet enough for your next wedding/awards ceremony/court appearance.<br /><br />But before you reach for your wallet, know this: at $150, they're not <em>that</em> much cheaper than a Wii itself.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/22/wiimote-cuff-links-an-accelerometer-short-of-greatness/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/wiimote-cuff-links-for-the-wii-owner-who-has-everything/">Wiimote cufflinks, for the Wii owner who has everything</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Apr 2008 10:30:00 EST. After our initial wave of disappointment dissipated with the announcement that SCEA had no plans of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/06/scea-no-plans-for-silver-ps3-in-north-america/">bringing the Satin Silver PS3 stateside</a>, we were actually starting to feel pretty good, that is until we saw the <a href="http://dol.dengeki.com/data/news/2008/2/5/71ff2011eed37ec22dadd1f8039799d2.html">Satin Silver <em>Yakuza 3</em> bundle</a>. Now our feelings of woe have returned tenfold.<br />
<br />
Limited to only 1,000 units, the <em>Yakuza 3</em> PS3 bundle will be released in Japan on March 6 (the same day as the regular Satin Silver PS3) for about $440 and will include some really neato <a href="http://dol.dengeki.com/data/news/2008/2/5/71ff2011eed37ec22dadd1f8039799d2_3.html">dragon stickers</a>. However, like the regular Satin Silver PS3, it won't come with a DualShock 3, but who needs that when you can come home with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/yakuza-3/"><em>Yakuza 3</em></a>, right?<br />
<br />
What makes this even worse for us is that Sega has yet to confirm a Western release of the game. Sega, can you please end our agony and just tell us when we can expect <em>Yakuza 3</em>?<br />

Well, it appears as if that trend is continuing with the PlayStation 3 as Sony Japan announced that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/05/satin-silver-ps3-hitting-japan-on-march-6th/">40GB Satin Silver PS3</a> will hit Japan early next month.<br /><br />But do you think Sony Computer Entertainment America has plans to do the same? Not so much according to an SCEA representative who <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/849/849749p1.html?RSSwhen2008-02-05_133000&amp;RSSid=849749">told IGN</a>, "there are no plans for a silver PS3 in North America at this time."<br /><br />While the news is disappointing for those few gamers who have been holding off for a different colored PS3, we rest assured knowing that Sony will surely bring these over at some point. We all know the Japanese love their gaming systems in many <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/17/japan-scores-6-new-psp-lite-colors/">different colours</a>, which is why it's no surprise that Sony has announced that <em>another</em> PS3 colour is being released in the region on March 6th of this year for 39,980 yen. The "Satin Silver" PS3 is another member of the 40GB SKU which Sony have stated many times that they are focusing on in the Japanese and European region. <br /><br />A Dual Shock 3 will also be released in Silver at the same time, priced at 5,500 yen, but will not come bundled with the console. This seems to us to be a wasted opportunity to start phasing out the Sixaxis, which is what ultimately should happen. Of course, putting a DS3 in the box would probably raise the price and after two price drops in its first year, a price <em>raise</em>, even with a good reason, would be risky business on Sony's part.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/05/ps3-gets-a-silver-satin-dress-in-japan/">Engadget</a>]<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/05/satin-silver-ps3-hitting-japan-on-march-6th/">Satin Silver PS3 hitting Japan on March 6th</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Feb 2008 09:45:00 EST. We often poke fun at custom Lites (usually with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/14/theres-a-triforce-in-the-center-of-the-emblem/">good reason</a>, but sometimes, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/26/someone-put-a-damn-unicycling-llama-on-their-ds/">just because</a>), but this one actually looks alright. The new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/01/gs_dsl_15.jpg">Gloss Silver DS Lites</a> are pretty, but a little plain; the buttons are also silver, so the whole thing is very monochromatic. The original Phat was also silver, but had black buttons to shake things up a little. Maybe we like <em>variety</em>, or maybe we're just nostalgic for the good ol' days of less battery power, but this Lite Redux that turned up on eBay really seems like the best of both worlds. It's got the sleek, slender sophistication of the silver Lite, but the black buttons just scream "old school." The price ($175) may be a little high for our tastes, but hey -- we're on board with the <em>idea</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/15/silver-ds-lite-now-with-less-silver/">Silver DS Lite, now with less ... silver</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 09:45:00 EST. This week long delay in getting free content is justified by Gold members paying for their subscription. And maybe that's how it should be. Gold members actually being treated as if they're getting perks for paying for Xbox Live. Here at X3F, we are Gold subscribers so we guess we're a bit biased and unsympathetic to our Silver brethren. But now that we think about it, it's kind of sad to know that Silver members can't get in on the hot <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/04/free-xbox-originals-themes-and-gamer-pictures/">Grunt gamer pic</a> love until next week. <div align="left">Before you guys in the U.S. (like us) get too excited, by "here", the ad means "the U.K." Nintendo sent out these e-mail advertisements for the new, shiny <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/28/ds-daily-europe-goes-silver/">Metallic Silver DS Lite</a>, reminding European shiny-stuff fans that their DS <a href="http://ds.ign.com/articles/819/819840p1.html">has arrived</a>. "Effortlessly stylish," the ad copy reads, "the DS Lite Silver is just one more good reason to join the 14 million other people across Europe who have already got their hands on a Nintendo DS."<br /><br />Depending on your geographical location, your current DS Lite ownership status, and your color preferences, this email could be a welcome blip in your inbox. But we have to wonder-- who that isn't already enough of a Nintendo fan to possess a DS would be on their mailing list? The ad copy sounds like it's aimed at new DS gamers and not upgraders. <br /><br />Check after the break for the whole ad image.</div>

<p>The new DS Lites have been released in Japan and have shown up on import shopping sites. That's right, for only $179 + shipping, you can have a DS Lite in one of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/30/two-new-ds-lite-colors-for-japan/">two new Japan-exclusive colors</a>! You have your choice of Like the Regular DS Phat Color but on a Lite, or Like the Pink One but Shinier.</p>
<p>Sure, you pay a premium, but it may be worth it to have a DS that looks somewhat different from other DS's in the immediate area. Depends on how you feel about the new colors! What do you think-- Gloss Silver or <em>Gross Silver?</em> Metallic Pink or Me-<em>tacky Pink?</em></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/13/gloss-silver-and-metallic-pink-ds-lites-now-available-for-import/">Gloss Silver and Metallic Pink DS Lites now available for import</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Jul 2007 17:20:00 EST. We've wasted our lives. What have we been doing all these years, while we could have been learning to work with gold, silver and platinum jewelry, and sharing handmade Nintendo jewelry with our friends and loved ones? Oh, right, going to school and having jobs. And also <em>actually playing games.</em><br /><br />Third Project Juno has made some stuff that we would actually consider wearing, including a lot of <em>Zelda</em> jewelry. Our favorite is the D-pad necklace pictured here.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.wonderlandblog.com/wonderland/2007/06/hyrule-pendant.html">Wonderland</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/21/now-youre-silversmithing-with-power/">Now you're silversmithing with power</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Jun 2007 14:15:00 EST. <br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/square+enix">Square Enix's</a> <em>Wonderful World</em> edition DS Lite marks the first of what we're sure will be many <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/30/two-new-ds-lite-colors-for-japan/">Gloss Silver</a> bundles to grace Japan, but will never -- absolutely never -- see an official release in the states. Set for release along with the game this June 27th, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=special+edition">limited edition</a> handheld shows of the "<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=wonderful+world">It's a Wonderful World</a></em>" logo and Tetsuya Nomura's skull badge design. We tempered our interest in this development with doubt that the games would be released outside of Japan, due to their limited appeal and the large amount of text involved.<br /><br />Sometimes, we don't mind being wrong. During the Australian G03 event, Suda announced that the game, which was "a minor hit" in Japan, would receive a worldwide release. The games, called <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Silver_Case"><em>The Silver Case</em></a> and <em>The Silver Case Ward 25,</em> were originally released for the Playstation and mobile phones, respectively. Suda revealed this fact during his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gdc07">GDC</a> keynote "Punk's Not Dead".<br /><br />Both are graphical text adventures; <em>Ward 25</em> uses static art and the original <em>Silver Case</em> uses full-motion video. Unfortunately, because of the amount of text that would have to be translated, Suda isn't sure the remakes will be released outside Japan. Thanks to Ubisoft's charitable nature, <em>GRAW 2</em> will be sponsoring an Australian and New Zealand free gold play weekend starting Friday, March 9th and running through Sunday, March 11th. Fellow silver members take advantage of your free play weekend as they are quite the rarity. Second thought, just purchase a Xbox Live gold subscription and all your life problems will disappear. Obviously, it's quite shiny, but he has a few other things to say:<br />
<ul>
    <li>It feels "stronger" than the original black PSP.</li>
    <li>The analog nub has more resistance.</li>
    <li>Buttons are a lot harder.</li>
</ul>
So not only is it sexy, it appears to have some added functionality too! This really makes me angry that SCEA still refuses to bring any other color here to the States. What's up with that? Interested importers can pick up a system from <a href="http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-57ld-71-9e-49-en-84-j-70-1p3u.html">Play-Asia</a> for $199, the same cost as a US system. Or, for the poor, you might be interested in simply getting an official <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/24/isnt-black-so-boring/">replacement faceplate</a>.<br /><br /><strong>See also:</strong><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/08/up-close-with-the-metallic-blue-psp/">Up close with the metallic blue PSP</a><br /><br />[<strong>Update 1:</strong> Ravi, owner of said PSP, has posted <a href="http://7indian.wordpress.com/2007/02/15/silver-psp-gallery/">even more sexy pics</a>.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/14/up-close-with-the-metallic-silver-psp/">Up close with the metallic silver PSP [Update 1]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Feb 2007 18:30:00 EST. It may not be cheap, but it's far more affordable than outright buying a new import PSP. New colors, such as <a href="http://www.divineo.cn/php/affstart.php?affcode=pspgadgetz&amp;prod=psp-faceps">Silver</a> and <a href="http://www.divineo.cn/php/affstart.php?affcode=pspgadgetz&amp;prod=psp-facepb">Metallic Blue</a> (it's so shiny!) are available for your consumption. Considering how SCEA seems to think that we're satisfied with having simply one color (black) in the market, this might be the best option for you to add a little color to your PSP gaming.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://plaza.rakuten.co.jp/pspcell/diary/200701240002/">PSP GadgetZ</a>]<br /><br /><strong>See also:</strong><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/08/up-close-with-the-metallic-blue-psp/">Up close with the metallic blue PSP</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/24/isnt-black-so-boring/">Isn't black so boring?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Jan 2007 23:00:00 EST. These are both going for $199, the same retail price as an uncolorful American PSP. Remember: import PSPs can play all games. The only catch is: they can't play other region's UMDs. Not that that should matter anyways.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/18/silver-and-blue-for-your-import-consideration/">Silver and Blue, for your import consideration</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Dec 2006 14:35:00 EST. The Camo PSP was recently packaged as part of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/30/metal-gear-bundle-gets-even-more-awesome/"><em>Metal Gear Solid</em> bundle</a>. The new Silver and Metallic Blue colors for the PSP are hitting Japan, sans bundles. Except for color, they'll be identical to the current White and Black PSPs, including price (unlike the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/05/kacho-fugetsu-porn/">Signature line</a>).<br /><br />Europe gets the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/10/a-closer-look-at-the-pink-psp/">pink PSP</a>, and Japan gets a whole assortment of colors. This marks the first time that exclusive XBL content has been delayed (not denied) for the free Silver members, and it's just the tip of the iceberg. Nelson <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2006/10/25/Trailer-Gears-of-War-Ad.aspx#229">commented</a> on his blog entry after mixed reaction from readers, "So here is the deal ... Silver members WILL get access to this ... probably in about a week. This is going to happen more and more (Gold getting things before Silver) so you may want to think about upgrading if you want all the latest and greatest trailers, demos etc."<br /><br />It's not really a big deal at this point, because the trailer was available online within seconds of appearing on the XBLM. The real problem starts when Gold members start getting demos and downloadable game content before Silver members do; perhaps, eventually, the Silver members won't get them at all. Microsoft will find themselves treading a fine line between how much a Silver member will put up with not having, and how much a Gold member needs to feel justified in paying the cost for their features. It's important to note that this trailer is most likely a trial run by Microsoft (through Major Nelson) to see how things go, since it's not even true "exclusive" content. Nelson (can we just call him Larry, already?) admits that this is the same commercial played last week at X06 Canada. So where's the real super exclusive platinum fanboy stuff, eh?<br /><br />The point is that Microsoft is finally treating the Gold level like what it is supposed to be, a step above the Silver membership. Silver members don't pay for anything; it's a free service meant to provide an "introduction" to XBL. Gold members pay for additional features and, with it, they expect some perks to be delivered. While it's limited to trailers right now, expect to see it expand to demos, downloadable content, and anything else Microsoft can think about leveraging for more subscribers to make the jump up to the next tier while their model for microtransactions seems to be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/26/major-nelson-on-g4-microtransactions-are-about-choice/">falling apart</a> with the inmates running the asylum.<br /><br />And just because we love you, check out that <em>Gears</em> trailer after the jump in SD, or click <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=14418&amp;type=mov&amp;pl=game">here</a> for the HD version.<br /><br />[Thanks, E.J.]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/30/rift-widens-between-silver-and-gold-xbla-memberships/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rift widens between Silver and Gold XBLA memberships</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/30/rift-widens-between-silver-and-gold-xbla-memberships/">Rift widens between Silver and Gold XBLA memberships</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 Oct 2006 09:00:00 EST. Now Sega, to hype up <a href="http://pspfanboy.com/category/sonic/"><em>Sonic Rivals</em></a> coming to the PSP, has released character artwork cards, and I really have no clue why.<br /><br />Among the lucky characters to be included in this batch are Sonic (Of course), Knuckles, Shadow and Silver. Honestly, I'm not really "feeling" these cards so much. Is there really a point in numbering them? I don't think anyone's going to try to trade a Knuckles for a Silver any time soon.<br /><br />Anyway, <em>Sonic Rivials</em> should be released Nov. 21. That means you only have a little more than a month to collect the entire set. You better hurry!<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.dcemu.co.uk">DCEmu</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/03/gasp-get-your-sonic-rivals-internet-cards-before-theyre-all-go/">Gasp! While these aren't "official" yet, Sony rarely shows system colors that never materialize. This camo PSP looks especially hot, and will be a must-have for a true <em>SOCOM</em> fan. Hopefully, it won't fall under Sony's "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/20/sony-unveils-new-signature-psps/">Signature</a>" line of systems, or you'll most likely be unable to afford it. Me? I like the yellow one the best.<br /><br />Will Sony ever officially announce these system colors? And if they do, will they ever bring them to the States? The faceplate is made by (presumably very rich) <em><a href="http://www.christofle.com/">Christofle</a></em> -- the name just begs to be italicized -- and designed by (also presumably very rich) Andree Putman. There will only be five (count 'em, five) manufactured in the whole wide world, and, at a cool &euro;1000 ($1250), you'll be hard pressed to get one any time soon. Still, if you're dying to be the King of Bling or...um...the Duke of Krunk, you can go check them out in the Collette boutique in Paris.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.luxist.com/2006/07/19/limited-edition-silver-xbox-360-by-christofle/">Luxist</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/20/screw-chrome-silver-is-the-real-bling/">Screw chrome!
