<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-rising-3"><em>Dead Rising 3</em></a>'s optional use of the Xbox One's mandatory Kinect gifts its zombies with a level of situational awareness you may not want them to have, truth be told. "They can hear," a Capcom representative told us during a demonstration at E3. "If you want to call a zombie or distract [a zombie], you just yell at your Kinect and they'll respond to you."<br />
<br />
Sounds useful in a stealth situation, but what if you're not as good at staying quiet as you'd like, or your roommate comes home at a tense moment, taking the frustration of his lousy day out on your front door? Are the zombies listening <em>that</em> closely? <br />
<br />
"That's part of the joke," executive producer Josh Bridge said. We asked whether the zombies would respond to specific words or just sounds in general, and while exact details regarding the mechanic won't be revealed until further into production, "for the most part, zombies don't understand English." Bridge added that the microphone sensitivity will be tuned to a "threshold that makes sense," so that attracting zombies will, by and large, feel like an intentional decision. Of course, the functionality can be disabled entirely.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/11/dead-rising-3-kinect-and-smartglass-integration-detailed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dead Rising 3 Kinect and Smartglass integration detailed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/11/dead-rising-3-kinect-and-smartglass-integration-detailed/">Dead Rising 3 Kinect and Smartglass integration detailed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Jun 2013 21:10:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/smartglass-evolves-on-xbox-one/">Xbox SmartGlass</a> will play an integral part of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-one">Xbox One</a> experience. Through the accompanying SmartGlass app, players can set up matches in the background while they play and compare stats.<br />
<br />
A demonstration of Xbox Upload Studio, a built-in DVR and broadcasting suite, was shown following a <em>Killer Instinct</em> match. Xbox Upload Studio automatically records and allows players to edit and share their recorded footage to all.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/10/xbox-one-uses-smartglass-to-get-you-into-games-compare-stats/">Xbox One SmartGlass handles matchmaking; Xbox Upload Studio revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Jun 2013 13:27:00 EST. Microsoft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-reveal">Xbox reveal event</a> went down today, where the company unveiled its next Xbox, called the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-one">Xbox One</a>.<br />
<br />
It's a cloud-based machine sporting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/next-gen-kinect-sensor-unveiled-for-xbox-one/">an improved Kinect camera</a>, along with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/xbox-one-controller-has-new-d-pad-integrated-battery-compartmen/">a redesigned controller</a> with a new d-pad and integrated battery compartment. The console itself has a Blu-ray drive, 500GB of internal storage and an eight-core x86 CPU paired with 8GB of system memory. In many ways, it's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/xbox-one-and-playstation-4-specs-compared/">similar</a> to the make-up of the PS4.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xbox-one-console/">Xbox One Console</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xbox-one-console/#5898959"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/xboxone-reveal-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xbox-one-console/#5898960"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/xboxone-reveal-6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xbox-one-console/#5898961"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/xboxone-reveal-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xbox-one-console/#5898962"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/xboxone-reveal-8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xbox-one-console/#5898963"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/xboxone-reveal-9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/xbox-one-everything-from-microsofts-xbox-reveal-event/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Xbox One: Everything from Microsoft's Xbox reveal event</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/xbox-one-everything-from-microsofts-xbox-reveal-event/">Xbox One: Everything from Microsoft's Xbox reveal event</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 May 2013 17:25:00 EST. Microsoft will build a new relationship with the NFL on <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/xbox-one">Xbox One</a>. On Microsoft's new console, users will be able to take advantage of numerous interactive features available only on Xbox. These include Smartglass integration and the ability for users to see their fantasy football stats updated automatically while watching live broadcasts of the latest NFL games. Users will also be able to call and taunt their fantasy football friends via Skype.<br />

First generation Kindle Fires are out of luck since they're based on Android version 2.3 and the Xbox SmartGlass app requires Android 4.0 and higher.<br /><br />An update to Xbox SmartGlass little over a week ago made Microsoft's second-screen experience compatible with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/11/smartglass-android-update-brings-support-for-7-inch-and-larger-t/">7-inch and larger Android tablets</a>. Xbox SmartGlass launched in November 2012, allowing Xbox 360 users to control videos and interact with SmartGlass-enabled apps and games using compatible smart phones and tablets. In addition to the Android app, Xbox SmartGlass is available for free on iOS devices and, of course, Windows 8 and Windows Phone.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/23/xbox-smartglass-now-available-for-kindle-fire-and-kindle-hd/">Xbox SmartGlass now available for Kindle Fire and Kindle HD</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Apr 2013 01:00:00 EST. The <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.smartglass">1.5 Android update</a> also provides "always-on" support - no, not <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/adam-orth">that kind of always-on</a>, but a state which ensures the device doesn't enter sleep mode while the app's running. Fans of "numerous" bug fixes and design improvements also get their update's worth.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/11/smartglass-android-update-brings-support-for-7-inch-and-larger-t/">SmartGlass Android update brings support for 7-inch and larger tablets</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Apr 2013 09:30:00 EST. Playing with the SmartGlass app loaded up on your phone or tablet allows you to keep track of your gameplay statistics. It also allows you to load up videos on YouTube of other players clearing the area you're in, to help you make your way.<br /><br /><em>Razor's Edge</em> will be available <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/06/report-ninja-gaiden-3-razors-edge-coming-to-ps3-and-xbox/">April 2</a> in North America, and April 5 in Europe.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/01/ninja-gaiden-3-razors-edge-has-sharp-xbox-smartglass-support/">Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge has sharp Xbox SmartGlass support</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Mar 2013 09:45:00 EST. We're not sure what kind of questions will be asked, but if the Presidential Election was any indication, it'll be a lot of bar graphs showing community support levels for Jessica Chastain's dress and questions about foreign policy in Iran.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: right;"> <small>[<a href="http://www.ap.org/Content/Press-Release/2013/APs-red-carpet-experience-will-broadcast-live-on-Xbox-360">Image credit</a>]</small></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/22/2013-academy-awards-red-carpet-event-streaming-on-xbox-live/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2013 Academy Awards red carpet event streaming on Xbox Live</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/22/2013-academy-awards-red-carpet-event-streaming-on-xbox-live/">2013 Academy Awards red carpet event streaming on Xbox Live</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Feb 2013 21:45:00 EST. R2 holds a number of patents that have to do with using various mobile devices to control home entertainment software and hardware, and Microsoft is reportedly sending the company to work with its Xbox division. R2 was founded by Blake Krikorian, who also founded the company behind <a href="http://slingbox.com/">the Slingbox</a>, a set-top device that allows users to stream video across the cloud.<br /><br />This all sounds like fuel for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/06/xbox-smartglass-for-ios-out-now/">Microsoft's SmartGlass application</a>, which uses various mobile devices to control and interact with the Xbox. Since we're expecting to see a brand new Xbox console this year, R2 could be sent to work on any number of new products or services.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/03/microsoft-acquires-r2-studios-specialist-in-smartglass-like-hom/">Microsoft acquires R2 Studios, specialist in SmartGlass-like home automation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Jan 2013 20:00:00 EST. Both the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/22/nba-game-time-drives-the-lane-on-xbox-360-today/">NBA Game Time</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/20/espn-on-xbox-live-updated-with-all-live-espn-content/">ESPN</a> apps on Xbox Live have added SmartGlass functionality to their playbooks for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. <em>Sports metaphors</em>.<br /><br />With SmartGlass, you can make selections and navigate options within each respective app with your smartphone or tablet. SmartGlass is available on iOS, Android and Windows 8 devices.<br /><br />There's also a new Sports Picks app that Microsoft has dropped onto Xbox Live, where you can make matchup selections across a variety of sports and compare them with friends on the leaderboards. Personally, we don't like to compete with our friends because, well, our friends usually win. <em>Always</em> win.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/20/nba-game-time-espn-apps-team-up-with-xbox-smartglass/">NBA Game Time, ESPN apps team up with Xbox SmartGlass</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Dec 2012 02:00:00 EST. Bugs have also been addressed in version 2.1 - we'd tell you which bugs were squashed but none are listed in the update notes.<br /><br />Xbox SmartGlass first launched on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/23/xbox-smartglass-launches-for-windows-8-tablets-october-26/">Windows 8 devices</a> back in October. That <em>lengthy</em> half-day exclusivity ended with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/26/xbox-smartglass-app-now-on-android/">an Android version</a> on October 26, followed by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/06/xbox-smartglass-for-ios-out-now/">the iOS app</a>'s arrival in early November.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/05/xbox-smartglass-app-now-optimized-for-iphone-5/">Xbox SmartGlass app now optimized for iPhone 5</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 05 Dec 2012 21:45:00 EST. Today all live ESPN content is streaming through your Xbox 360, including Monday Night Football, Sunday Night Baseball and more top draws from ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPNU, Buzzer Beater and Goal Line - granted only if you're an Xbox Live Gold subscriber, that is.<br /><br />The updated app on Xbox 360 still features all of the familiar Kinect gesture and voice commands <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/09/kinect-support-required-for-all-xbox-dash-apps-going-forward/">required by Microsoft law</a>, and lets users stream multiple events in split-screen format, set reminders for big games and track their favorite sports through a customizable menu. Next month, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/smartglass">SmartGlass</a> functionality will also be added to the app.<br /><br />You can download the improved app right now, simply by booting up the old app or heading to the appropriate section of your Xbox 360 dashboard.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/20/espn-on-xbox-live-updated-with-all-live-espn-content/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>ESPN on Xbox Live updated with all live ESPN content</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/20/espn-on-xbox-live-updated-with-all-live-espn-content/">ESPN on Xbox Live updated with all live ESPN content</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Nov 2012 02:00:00 EST. The free app is compatible with devices running iOS 5.0 and higher - sorry, no native iPhone 5 support just yet, so you'll have to make do with the smaller formatting on your tall phone for now.<br /><br />The app itself replaces the current Xbox Companion for iOS, and allows you to interact with your Xbox 360 for supplemental controls and information across a variety of programs going forward. To start with, you'll be able to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/15/dance-central-3s-smartglass-app-full-track-list-detailed/">play DJ in <em>Dance Central 3</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/06/xbox-smartglass-for-ios-out-now/">Xbox SmartGlass for iOS out now</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Nov 2012 19:30:00 EST. There, the map continues to perform all of the same duties as it does in-game, allowing the player to set GPS destinations, get information on events, etc.<br /><br />Now, however, instead of having to pause the game to look at the map, all the player has to do is put down the controller and pick up a second device to perform the same functions. Whether they pause the game first, or go careening into the side of a mountain, is entirely up to them.<br /><span><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/forza-horizon-smartglass/">Forza Horizon (Smartglass)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/forza-horizon-smartglass/#5409642"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/forzahorizonsmartglassexperience1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/forza-horizon-smartglass/#5409643"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/forzahorizonsmartglassexperience2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/forza-horizon-smartglass/#5409644"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/forzahorizonsmartglassexperience3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></span><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/30/forza-horizon-smartglass-experience-app-now-available-on-windo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Forza Horizon 'SmartGlass Experience' app now available on Windows 8</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/30/forza-horizon-smartglass-experience-app-now-available-on-windo/">Forza Horizon 'SmartGlass Experience' app now available on Windows 8</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Oct 2012 21:00:00 EST. Xbox SmartGlass, the app that connects your mobile device to your Xbox, is now on Android. So you can use your Android phone or tablet to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/15/dance-central-3s-smartglass-app-full-track-list-detailed/">make people dance</a> for your amusement, track achievements, do avatar stuff, and eventually interact with other Microsoft Studios games and other Xbox stuff.<br /><br />An iOS version is also expected; the last timeline we heard from Microsoft was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/23/xbox-smartglass-launches-for-windows-8-tablets-october-26/">2013</a>, though that was supposedly the window for the Android version as well. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/26/xbox-smartglass-app-now-on-android/">Xbox SmartGlass app now on Android</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Oct 2012 18:00:00 EST. The Xbox 360 app, which turns devices into secondary screens for the console, will be available for Windows 8 phones at launch on October 29. SmartGlass is expected to arrive on iOS and Android in 2013.<br /><br />SmartGlass is implemented in the latest Xbox dashboard update, which Microsoft tells us it's rolled out to 3 million users so far. Another wave will receive the dashboard update today, so more users should have access to SmartGlass when the companion app becomes available for Windows 8 tablets on Friday.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/23/xbox-smartglass-launches-for-windows-8-tablets-october-26/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Xbox SmartGlass launches for Windows 8 tablets October 26</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/23/xbox-smartglass-launches-for-windows-8-tablets-october-26/">Xbox SmartGlass launches for Windows 8 tablets October 26</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Oct 2012 10:00:00 EST. The "Party Time DJ" app allows someone using an iOS, Android, or Windows Phone 8 device to create playlists or simply select the next song in "Party Time" mode, Harmonix revealed to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/15/dance-central-3-smartglass/">Engadget</a>.<br /><br />Other functionality includes queuing up DLC to buy on the Xbox, changing difficulty, or tracking calories burned and progress toward weekly goals. Despite being tied to the new SmartGlass tech, the functions here, of facilitating DLC purchasing and tracking in-game progress, seem similar to those in the Facebook <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/24/rock-band-world-social-app-coming-to-rock-band-3-rock-band-blit/">Rock Band World app</a>.<br /><br />The app will not be available in time for tomorrow's launch; Harmonix did not provide a specific time, though Engadget speculates it will be close to Windows 8's October 26 launch. What Harmonix has provided, however, is <em>Dance Central 3's</em> full track list, which can be found after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/15/dance-central-3s-smartglass-app-full-track-list-detailed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dance Central 3's SmartGlass app, full track list detailed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/15/dance-central-3s-smartglass-app-full-track-list-detailed/">Dance Central 3's SmartGlass app, full track list detailed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Oct 2012 11:00:00 EST. Exactly <em>how</em> the two will interact, however, remains a mystery. Mattrick noted the news during a <a href="http://venturebeat.com/2012/07/10/xbox-boss-halo-4-will-work-with-surface-tablet/">VentureBeat event</a> in San Francisco yesterday; later, he reconfirmed the functionality with a reporter on-hand but refused to give any more details.<br /><br />If we had to guess, though, we'd say the only functionality between the two will be the already announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/smartglass">SmartGlass features from E3</a> (say, using Halo Waypoint, or viewing the game's encyclopedia). After all, Microsoft <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/09/expect-smartglass-support-in-every-microsoft-studios-game-going/">told us at E3</a> that SmartGlass will be part of all Microsoft Studios games going forward after its fall 2012 launch.<br /><br />Of course, Microsoft could always go totally off the rails and add full-on gamepad support via Surface's touchscreen. Or maybe just a personal Cortana app where she freaks out and yells at you randomly while you're playing. Maybe they should just stick with the Waypoint stuff.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/11/halo-4-will-work-with-microsofts-new-tablet-somehow/">Halo 4 will work with Microsoft's new tablet ... somehow</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Jul 2012 11:30:00 EST. The service allows non-Xbox devices, like tablet computers, to sync with the console and display context-sensitive information based on what's going on in a given game or app, among <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/04/smartglass-details/">other uses</a>.<br /><br />The SDK, available now for anyone who's part of the Microsoft Game Developers Network, includes a SmartGlass JavaScript library, sample application and the Xbox SmartGlass Studio, an environment for constructing SmartGlass "activities." Microsoft isn't hedging its bets entirely upon third-party support, however, as the company plans on implementing the feature in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/09/expect-smartglass-support-in-every-microsoft-studios-game-going/">every Microsoft Studios game</a> from here on out.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/22/microsoft-releases-smartglass-sdk-for-developers/">Microsoft releases SmartGlass SDK for developers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Jun 2012 01:15:00 EST. First, the app has been <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.xle&amp;feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5taWNyb3NvZnQueGxlIl0.">released for Android devices</a>, giving users of the OS access to Xbox Live features such as Achievements, messages and other social content.<br /><br />Meanwhile, the <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/my-xbox-live/id480914036">iOS version</a> has seen some significant improvements, notably the ability to control the Xbox console remotely. Specifically, you can fire up games from your collection or launch a selection of curated content (featured games, movies, etc.). You can even directly control some applications, such as Netflix. There is, however, a slight delay between phone taps and on-screen reaction, so you're probably better off using a controller. Still, it's pretty nifty and gives us a hint of what we can expect from <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/smartglass">Smartglass</a> later this year.<br /><br />Finally, the iPad version of My Xbox Live now features Retina Display support and better authentication. The app is free on both iOS and Android.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/13/my-xbox-live-app-launches-on-android-more-functionality-added-t/">My Xbox Live app launches on Android, more functionality added to iOS version</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Jun 2012 18:00:00 EST. Phil Spencer, Corporate VP of Microsoft Studios, tells me you can expect SmartGlass support from all of the company's games after the feature becomes available this fall.<br /><br />"It just makes so much sense for a developer who wants to supply, maybe not time-critical information, like 'that enemy is getting ready to shoot you,' but information that augments what's happening on screen," Spencer says. He used last year's Halo Waypoint Atlas app, which offered multiplayer GPS tracking, as an example of how SmartGlass features could share additional game information without hampering the moment-to-moment gameplay. "And then you're even going to see situations like with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ascend-new-gods"><em>Ascend</em></a>, where there's actually gameplay that happens on the phone, even when you're away from your television and that interacts back with the online game that's happening. So I think you'll see information sharing, context sharing while you're in the room, with video and with games, as well as gameplay happening in more distributed environments."<br /><br />SmartGlass will be encapsulated in a single app that syncs with your Gamertag and enables features based on what you're playing or watching (provided they support SmartGlass). "You don't have to log in and out of each app - you know, 'I'm gonna start the Mass Effect app, and now I'm gonna start the Game of Thrones app.' So you have this surface, this smart surface," Spencer says, "that sits on any device that you already own that's always in sync with what's happening on the television, and it knows where to go and grab the right content to display at the right time, to make sure that if you're playing <em>Halo</em>, then the <em>Halo</em> surface is available on SmartGlass."<br /><br />During its E3 2012 press conference, Microsoft showed a concept of what might become <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/halo-4"><em>Halo 4</em></a>'s SmartGlass functionality. The app, as shown, allows players to track stats and send game invites via tablet or smartphone. Microsoft has said that it supports the "device you already own," but hasn't directly addressed SmartGlass variations between iOS, Android and Windows 8.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/09/expect-smartglass-support-in-every-microsoft-studios-game-going/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Expect SmartGlass support in every Microsoft Studios game going forward</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/09/expect-smartglass-support-in-every-microsoft-studios-game-going/">Expect SmartGlass support in every Microsoft Studios game going forward</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 09 Jun 2012 09:00:00 EST. It showed off some SmartGlass functionalities during its pre-E3 conference, demonstrating the app sharing content between mobile devices and the Xbox 360. Smart Glass started playing Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows on a tablet and pushed it to Xbox, to finish watching it. The tablet provided additional information about the movie as it continued playing on the large screen.<br /> <br /> The Madden NFL franchise will support SmartGlass, allowing players to create plays on a tablet and run them on the TV.<br /> <br /> Microsoft provided an official description of SmartGlass after its conference:<br /> <br /> "Xbox SmartGlass is a free application for Windows Phones, Windows 8 and other portable devices. By delivering companion content and control to enhance your experiences on the Xbox console, Xbox SmartGlass makes enjoying TV, movies and music, web surfing, and playing games even better. Imagine that your tablet or phone knew what you were watching on TV and presented bonus features without you having to lift a finger. Xbox SmartGlass turns any TV into the ultimate smart TV."</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/04/smartglass-details/">Microsoft unveils SmartGlass, launching this fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Jun 2012 13:19:00 EST.
