Listed in the voice cast are Nolan North as Uncharted's Nathan Drake, David Hayter as Snake, Eric Ladin as Infamous's Cole McGrath, and ... Jerry Lambert as fictional executive Kevin Butler.

It's tempting to imagine Kevin Butler's in-game stint as the VP of Special Attacks, but these characters aren't necessarily playable. The game is full of cameos, like Captain Quark in the background of a Ratchet & Clank level. We're asking Sony to clarify this information. Kevin Butler would tell us, if he existed.

Update: For its part, Sony said it didn't set up the IMDB page. And since IMDB listings can be edited by users, it's entirely possible it was fabricated by a dreamy-eyed fan hoping to will this into existence.
IMDB: Kevin Butler, Cole McGrath, Drake, Snake voice actors in Playstation All-Stars cast originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 18 May 2012 11:30:00 EST. In these screenshots, including one tweeted by Hideo Kojima and two from Hachimaki, you can see Scribblenized versions of Old Snake, Gradius's Vic Viper, and Love Plus's Manaka Takane. Hideo Kojima has remained tight-lipped about the characters that will appear in Konami's upcoming PSP spy romp, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker -- so far, we only know four: Snake, Snake, Snake and Snaaaake! However, Famitsu has revealed a few other faces that will make an appearances in the game: Amanda, Huey, Chico, Coldman, Strangelove, Galvez, Cecile, Paz, and, most notably, Master Miller from Metal Gear 2. The magazine also included illustrations of these characters, who look as colorful as their names might suggest.

Famitsu also provides details about the co-op modes seen in the nine-minute trailer released last month. When two players get close to one another, "Co-op" mode activiates, merging the players' health gauges and allowing them to trade items. When they get really close, they go into "Snake-in" mode, in which one player controls both Snakes' movements so that the other can focus on murdering fools.

We wonder if all four players can merge in this manner, forming a growling, bearded train of death?

[Thanks, Ryan]
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker characters revealed in Famitsu originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 23 Sep 2009 11:58:00 EST. Who says you can't teach an Old Snake new tricks? Konami is looking to do just that, as evidenced by a job recruitment page. The page went live on Friday and explains Konami is seeking people to help with "new developments" in the Metal Gear series, specifically for home consoles and mobile devices (more Metal Gear Solid Touch?). The job posting also lists other titles that Konami is working on that aren't part of the Metal Gear series, such as Winning Eleven, Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball, and Bemani, as well as new online game content and pachislot machines.

Nothing else is explicitly mentioned, but if you want to try to make sense of the job ad (and can read Japanese), then by all means, click here.

[Via IGN]
Konami recruiting for more Metal Gear originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 09 Mar 2009 13:18:00 EST.
The video games as art debate is a ridiculous sham. It seems that many who fall on the "games are not art" side have rarely or never played a video game, often a product of an older generation. If your only experience with video games is hearing news reports about 7 year olds beating up hookers in Grand Theft Auto, then of course your view will be ignorant and bigoted. But that doesn't give critical validity to start creating arguments against that with which you are very unfamiliar. I know surprisingly little about Somalian Islamic Literature, which is why I don't make inflammatory statements about it. To suggest that any video game is incapable of being art is remarkably narrow-minded.

Television and movies choreograph all characters' actions and responses, leaving the viewer as a mere canvas on which the creator's views and reactions are imprinted. Though it's often that a viewer connects with a character and draws individual interpretations, their failures and triumphs can always be placed on the choices of the individual. With gaming, however, the connection can be just as deep, and to some, deeper. When our character fails, we grumble. When our character succeeds, we rejoice. Don't like the outcome? Well, then, you should've done things differently, dummy. While I'm not suggesting that games are better than film, they are simply different and arguably just as valid as high art. At a primitive level, it's not uncommon to punch the sofa in anger after failing a gaming objective. Just the same, it's nearly expected to vocalize with triumph after conquering the same obstacle. Emotional response does not automatically equal art, but creating something which vents one's senses and emotions and appeals to those of others certainly is. Different than stubbing your toe or finding 20 bucks in the street, gaming situations were carefully orchestrated to provide an experience which is dependent on the gamer to interpret. Why should emotions such as fear, love, and sadness be excluded from gaming?

Making my way down from my soapbox, I'll say that perhaps the most intimate display of emotion is crying. Here's the Top 5 moments in gaming that seem to get me every time. SPOILER ALERT: I hate having something ruined just as much as you do, so I'm giving a fair warning right now. This list contains spoilers for several high profile Nintendo titles. None are from the Wii (excluding the Virtual Console), but I will say that the fifth item refers to the WiiWare-bound Cave Story. If you haven't played the game and plan on purchasing it (which you definitely should!), please skip to number four.

Brawl? Great game, right? Yeah, we think so, too. Is it missing something, though? Perhaps extra characters?

According to ONM, Sakurai himself cut a couple of characters from the roster. "I had a lot more characters, for example.. but sadly I can't discuss which ones didn't make it," he said to ONM in an interview that will be featured in their next issue, hitting newsstands on Friday. How does that sit with you?

For us, it's not much of a big deal. The game's already packed with a ton of characters, and even includes wonderful bits of fan service in Solid Snake and Sonic the Hedgehog. With big budget action flicks making all sorts of money this summer, and with Hollywood's constant searching for the next big thing, we shouldn't be to surprised to hear that another videogame movie could be coming our way. Honestly though, this time our surprise has less to do with that fact in and of itself, and more to do with the details surrounding it.

Over at the Evil Avatar forums, the news was posted that David "Solid Snake" Hayter is currently in talks with Warner Bros. to write a movie based on, of all things, Lost Planet. While we shouldn't forget that Hayter does have writing expierience, (X-Men 1 & 2) we just can't imagine that there's enough meat on a Capcpm third-person-shooter's bones to actually flesh things out into a feature film. Plus, if this ends up getting off the ground, what kind of significance will the IP have by the time the movie is actually released? Oh well, in Solid Snake we trust.
Lost Planet movie possibly in the pipeline originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 17 Jun 2008 23:30:00 EST. We've placed several recently released gameplay videos of Metal Gear Solid 4 after the break. We didn't notice any spoilers in the clips, but we also don't consider Snake being old or ... well, we didn't see anything megaton spoilerific in there.

Of course, if the MGS hardcores do happen to check out the videos, we're quite sure they'll be commenting on whatever player was recorded for these clips. Seriously, even someone who knows next to nothing about MGS might scream at the screen and try to backseat drive the guy playing.
Continue reading Vid-splosion of Metal Gear Solid 4 gameplay

Vid-splosion of Metal Gear Solid 4 gameplay originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 10 Jun 2008 10:40:00 EST. Cosplayers are perpetual purveyors of entertainment. Die-hard fans never miss a chance to dress up, while some fans would rather die. Some do it so well that everyone becomes a fan, if only for a moment. Anyone grossly offended by the glory of cosplay should look away now (we're kidding, keep reading), as we present the new Guiness World Record for "Most Video Game Costumes in One Place."

It is estimated over 600 fans showed up to A-Kon 2008 dressed in video game attire, easily besting the previous "record" of 80 Marios. Characters from all walks of Nintendo life were found at A-Kon, and we've gathered a few of the best to check out after the break. Cosplay done right looks rad.
Continue reading Send in the cosplayers

Send in the cosplayers originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 03 Jun 2008 21:00:00 EST. News flash: Europeans love Solid Snake. We'll bet you're surprised to read that, so we'll wait until you've regained consciousness to move on ... Okay, good. CVG is reporting via the ever-reliable NeoGAF forums (we think it's this thread, although that's unconfirmed) that the following scores have been given to Metal Gear Solid 4:

As of this writing, the only confirmed score is the POM UK via Metacritic. Our Friday Video spot seemed an appropriate place to store these videos of Smash Bros. Brawl characters caught in compromising poses. Equal parts ridiculous and hilarious (because, really, who goes through all this effort?), the pair of videos show that every single fight in Smash Bros. Brawl is unpredictable. You never know if Snake is going to murder or sexually violate you.

The videos could be considered NSFW, so you'll have to head through the break to the "Adults Only" section of Wii Fanboy for the rest.

Continue reading Friday Video: Smash Bros. goes XXX

Friday Video: Smash Bros. goes XXX originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 28 Mar 2008 19:00:00 EST. Does the above image look like it belongs somewhere else? Well, it sort of does to us; the background environment reminds us more of another Konami hit series, Silent Hill, than it does Metal Gear Solid. That is, of course, once you take out all the Russian soldiers.

Luckily, it's only this screenshot out of a batch that made us think so; the rest of the screenshots look mighty fine.
