Sega fighters this week on Xbox Live, Dragonborn, Tony Hawk DLC next week

Xbox Live's Major Nelson has released the list of content coming to Xbox Live over the next few weeks. It all kicks off today with a trip of Sega fighters launching on Xbox Live Arcade: Virtua Fighter 2, Sonic the Fighters and Fighting Vipers. You can take your pick at 400 MS Points ($5) each, half the initial asking price.

Guardians of Middle Earth will make its trek to Xbox Live Arcade on December 5. The Revert DLC for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD also drops in on December 5 for 400 MS Points ($5). Finally, that week will also see the debut of Skyrim's second DLC pack on Xbox Live, the 1600 MS Point ($20) Dragonborn expansion on December 4.

On the savings front, this week's Deal of the Week revolves around GTA IV - the vanilla game starring cousin Niko is available through Games on Demand (price varies by region) with the Lost and Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony expansions being offered until December 3 for 400 MS Points and 800 MS Points each, respectively. Next week, from December 4 to the 10th, Deadliest Warrior and all of its DLC will be discounted.

Additional Kinect-focused deals are available through Xbox Live's Sales & Specials app - this week Burnout Crash is on sale for 400 MS Points ($5) with next week's deals focusing on Ubisoft's stable of Kinect games.

Sega's AM2 fighting games arrive on XBLA and PSN next week

The official Sega blog says Fighting Vipers, Sonic the Fighters, and Virtua Fighter 2 (three classic fighting games made by Sega's legendary AM2 team) are all heading to Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network next week. Each games will include Achievements and Trophies, and support online multiplayer.

All three games are set to show up on PSN on November 27 in North America for $4.99 each, and on November 28 on Xbox Live for 400 MSP. Then, they'll finally appear on the PSN in Europe on December 5 for €4.49.

You'll find screenshots for each game in the gallery below, and hopefully that'll be enough to tide you over until you get to throw down again in these old-school fighters.

Sega's 'Model 2' fighting trio hitting XBLM, PSN in Japan Nov. 28

Sonic the Fighters, Virtua Fighter 2, and Fighting Vipers are coming to Japan's Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network on November 28. That's only confirmed for Japan, and there remain no dates for a Western release. However, all three games received ratings from German software regulator USK earlier this year.

The dates are confirmed on Sega Japan's official website for the 'Model 2 Collection.' The trio of retro fighters are now 400 MSP each, a change from the original announcement of 800 MSP. Oddly, the PS3 price remains at 800 yen, which converts to around $10. However, the three can be bought in a set for 1500 yen, which converts to around $18.50.

The site still lists the collection's two other games, Virtual-On and Virtua Striker, as coming soon. In the meantime, we've reached out to Sega for further details on a possible Western release for the collection.

'Model 2 Collection' brings Virtua Fighter 2, Sonic the Fighters, more to PSN and XBLA

We didn't have to wait long to find out what Sega was teasing. As expected, the company revealed plans to release five games on Xbox Live and PSN that were originally released on the "Model 2" arcade system.

Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Vipers, and Sonic the Fighters will all be released in Japan in 2012, for 800 Microsoft Points or 800 yen each, and all featuring online multiplayer. Sonic the Fighters features playable Eggman and Metal Sonic, and for the first time, an officially playable version of the Honey the Cat character, which was cut from the arcade game.

Virtua Striker and Cyber Troopers Virtual-On will also be released as part of the collection, but are not dated yet. Sega has yet to make any announcements outside of Japan.

Sega teases return of Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Vipers, Virtual On and more

Sega of Japan has released a (very) short teaser, er, teasing the impending announcement of five new games. Showing the text "2x5," and following it with five very recognizable sound clips from some of Sega's greatest arcade games, specifically those that ran on its Model 2 board. All told, we hear Akira from Virtua Fighter 2, Bahn from Fighting Vipers, rings from Sonic: The Fighters, and the announcers from Virtua Striker and Virtual On. Sega will apparently be making an announcement about the games tomorrow, presumably that they're coming to download services like PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade.

Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Vipers and Sonic: The Fighters aren't exactly a surprise, as they've already been rated for Xbox by the USK, but this is the first time we've heard of Virtua Striker or Virtual On. Good news for fans of soccer and giant robots!

Virtua Fighter 2, Sonic the Fighters, and Fighting Vipers rated for Xbox

Virtua Fighter 2, Sonic the Fighters, and Fighting Vipers may be coming to Xbox Live Arcade soon, after recently receiving ratings from German software regulator USK. While USK rated the fighting games for Xbox 360, given Sega's recent track record it's likely the trio are also coming to PlayStation Network.

The three mid-90s games are intimately related. Sega AM2 brought Fighting Vipers to arcades a year after Virtua Fighter 2 in 1995. Fighting Vipers featured similar controls, moves, and animations to its more renowned predecessor. It had its own shticks, though, introducing breakable armor along with walls to cage the fighters in. In turn Sonic the Fighters plays similarly to Fighting Vipers, unsurprising since it was the eventual result of a Sega progammer coding in Sonic and Tails to that game. In 1996 Sega released Fighters Megamix, a Saturn crossover which contained characters from all three.games.

We've reached out to Sega to confirm any upcoming re-releases of the three fighters.
