The cross-buy enabled game takes place within a computer mainframe, tasking players with escorting erratic AI entities to their destinations.<br /><br />Finally, PSN's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/09/spring-fever-playstation-store-event-details-discounts-for-ps-p/">Spring Fever sale</a> continues unabated, slashing prices across the entire <em>Resident Evil </em>series this week. Highlights include <em>Resident Evil: Director's Cut</em> for $5, <em>Resident Evil 6</em> for $21 and <em>Resident Evil 4</em> at $14.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/22/soul-calibur-broken-destiny-free-on-ps-plus-tomorrow-spring-fev/">Soul Calibur Broken Destiny free on PS Plus tomorrow, Spring Fever sale continues</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 22 Apr 2013 17:05:00 EST. <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/soulcalibur"><em>Soulcalibur</em></a> has finally <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id481958471?mt=8">arrived on iOS</a>, meaning eager fans can keep the classic fighter on hand at all times. That is, if you're willing to part with enough cash to buy roughly a dozen other iOS titles. Yup, <em>Soulcalibur</em> will currently set you back $11.99 and it's <em>on sale</em>. The normal price will actually be $15.<br />
<br />
For comparison's sake, the Xbox Live Arcade version costs $10 and features better graphics, more modes (like, an actual versus mode) and physical controls. There are more modes planned for the iOS version but ... really, <em>fifteen dollars</em>?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/19/psa-soulcalibur-now-on-ios-is-twelve-freaking-dollars/">PSA: Soulcalibur now on iOS, is twelve freaking dollars</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Jan 2012 12:30:00 EST. The original <em>Soul Calibur</em>, a tale of souls and swords, eternally retold, will transform your various Apple touchscreen devices into <em>the stage of history</em> come January 19. The port includes every member of the original Dreamcast cast as well as most of the original modes, although Team Battle mode (or any VS. modes, for that matter) appear to have been omitted.<br />
<br />
Time Attack, Survival and <em>Extra</em> Survival mode are all compatible with Game Center leaderboards, so the title will still be <em>competitive</em>, just somewhat less confrontational. While no pricing information has yet been made available, we do know that the iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4 and iPad 2 will all support the title. Finally, a new and exciting way to touch writhing, latex-covered masochistic gimp bankers while on public transportation.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/14/soul-calibur-for-ios-arrives-jan-19/">Soul Calibur for iOS arrives Jan. 19</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 14 Jan 2012 18:00:00 EST. At a recent event, Namco Bandai VP of marketing Carlson Choi revealed that the original <em>Soul Calibur</em> will eventually slash and stab its way onto your iDevice. While he wouldn't divulge any specific time frame for the game's availability, Choi said it would be available "soon."<br />
<br />
<em>Soul Calibur</em> launched back in the arcades in 1998, and was ported to the Dreamcast in 1999 and Xbox Live Arcade in 2008. Expect this iOS port on both the iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/21/soul-calibur-coming-to-ios-platforms-soon/">Soul Calibur coming to iOS platforms 'soon'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Oct 2011 13:50:00 EST. We know, we know, the big story here is that Assassin's Creed sneakster Ezio Auditore da Firenze <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/17/rumor-assassins-creeds-ezio-coming-to-soulcalibur-5/">may have infiltrated</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/soulcalibur-5"><em>Soulcalibur 5</em></a>'s dramatic tale of swords and souls, but look! There's totally another dude up there, completely unaccounted for.<br />
<br />
We've been over our tipster's image with the finest fine-toothed combs money can buy, and every single character on this screen can be quickly and verifiably identified, <em>except</em> for the dude to the right of Ezio. Head past the break for a breakdown of the menu and let the wild, rampant speculation begin.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/17/possible-leaked-soulcalibur-5-screen-potentially-reveals-new-cha/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Leaked Soulcalibur 5 screen shows mysterious character (and it's not Ezio)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/17/possible-leaked-soulcalibur-5-screen-potentially-reveals-new-cha/">Leaked Soulcalibur 5 screen shows mysterious character (and it's not Ezio)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Oct 2011 23:00:00 EST. <br />
One of the universal truths of the fighting-game world is that at all times, someone out there is better than you, no exceptions. It's a <em>sure thing</em>, so much so that this cosmic natural law even applies to games that aren't even out yet, as is evident by the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/soulcalibur-5"><em>SoulCalibur 5</em></a> Astaroth v. Ivy match video above.<br />
<br />
It's nice to know that even though the bright, cheerful announcer we've come to know and love has been replaced by a gruff, melancholy fellow, matches are still followed by confusing and non-sequitur one-liners about justice and victory. Dear <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/namco-bandai">Namco Bandai</a>,<br />
<br />
Thank you for bringing Astaroth, our series favorite and tournament go-to character, back to the Stage of History in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/soulcalibur-5"><em>SoulCalibur 5</em>.</a> His glowing, infection-prone chest would have been sorely missed, as would his massive axe and memorable catchphrases like "Stay down!" or "Aruarghg!"<br />
<br />
Additionally, having your bevy of psychically astute brain institute graduates reach into the deepest, darkest corners of our subconscious was a brilliant move; Viola is the perfect combination of Freddy Krueger and <a href="http://snk.wikia.com/wiki/Athena_Asamiya">Athena Asamiya</a>, and is exactly what we've always wanted. Rest assured, our impassioned mailing campaign will now end.<br />
<br />
With souls still burning,<br />
<br />

We've known a new <em>Soul Calibur</em> game is coming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/26/soul-calibur-series-returns-to-the-stage-of-history/">since back in December</a> and now it would appear that Namco Bandai is finally ready to make a formal announcement. Well, not <em>now</em> now. Like, in two weeks.<br />
<br />
A site teasing a "new chapter" in <em>something</em> has recently emerged online, counting down to May 11 -- presumably when the identity of said chapter will be announced. Corroborating the mid-May reveal is <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/Daishi_CALIBUR/status/62391426650091520">a tweet</a> from <em>Soul Calibur's</em> "current game director" Daishi Odashima promising "to announce something" at that time. If we were rating the mystery behind this reveal, we'd probably give it an F. Minus.<br />
<br />

<br />
A free DLC pack headed to the Japanese PSN on February 10 adds costumes to make your characters look like Asbel and Cheria from <em>Tales of Graces</em> (the PS3 version of which was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/02/tales-of-graces-f-coming-soon-to-north-america/">just announced</a> for North America). The pack also comes with weapons based on the Soul Calibur and Soul Edge swords from the <em>Soul Calibur</em> series. Best of all, the DLC includes costumes based on <em>Taiko Drum Master</em>, which are way too bright and happy to be appropriate for the grotesque <em>Gods Eater Burst</em>.<br />
<br />
<em>Burst</em> arrives in North America this spring, but no announcements have been made about whether we'll be wielding the Soul Edge in our version.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/09/japanese-gods-eater-burst-dlc-includes-taiko-drum-master-tales/">Japanese Gods Eater Burst DLC includes Taiko Drum Master, Tales &amp; Soul Calibur items</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Feb 2011 06:25:00 EST. Daishi Odashima, <em>Soul Calibur IV</em> designer, opened a Twitter account on Christmas day, offering the following tease as his gift to fans of the weapons-based fighter series: "SC is BACK! Get ready, fans!" To prove he was <em>serious</em>, he included a picture of himself at his desk, with a drawing of the Soul Calibur sword.<br />
<br />
With a new <em>Soul Calibur </em>now in the works, that officially brings the number of franchise fighting games on the way from Namco Bandai to three, including<em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tekken-tag-tournament-2">Tekken Tag Tournament 2</a> </em>and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/24/street-fighter-x-tekken-and-vice-versa-revealed-at-comic-con/">Tekken vs. Street Fighter</a>.</em> Thanks for this fighting game renaissance, <em>Street Fighter IV</em>!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/26/soul-calibur-series-returns-to-the-stage-of-history/">Soulcalibur series returns to the stage of history</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 26 Dec 2010 12:30:00 EST. Microsoft has added two more popular Xbox 360 titles to the console's Games on Demand system -- <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/medal-of-honor-airborne"><em>Medal of Honor Airborne</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/soulcalibur-iv"><em>SoulCalibur IV</em></a> are now available for download, priced at $19.99 each. Those of you overseas (or in the US with amazing memories) will know that <em>MoH Airbourne</em> actually appeared internationally <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/02/ddr-universe-3-is-latest-addition-to-games-on-demand/">back in February</a>, but now everyone can enjoy the relentless slaughter of WWII soldiers from above.<br />
<br />
Oh, and playing a fighting game as Yoda is fun, too.<br />

If you're anything like us, you'll be spending a decent part of your holiday stuck in the seat of a train, bus, automobile, or aeroplane, heading towards wherever "home" is for the upcoming holidays. We know how nice it can be to pick up a new game or two for the travels ahead, and in the spirit of that we're giving out a DS/PSP travel pack for this week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/swag-saturday">Swag Saturday</a> including both <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-broken-destiny"><em>Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kingdom-hearts-3582-days"><em>Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days</em></a>. Tell us your best (gaming or non-gaming) holiday travel story (keep it clean, folks! -- no "mile high club" stories!) and we'll pick one winner at random to receive the travel pack early this week. As always, keep an eye on the email address tied to your commenting name to find out if you've won! <br />

Between the voice acting, the idea of playing a 3D fighter on iPhone, and, well, Gameloft's willingness to <em>openly</em> and unashamedly rip off <em>Soul Calibur</em>, this is one of the most entertaining iPhone releases yet, and we haven't even played the thing (which Touch Arcade says is actually <a href="http://toucharcade.com/2009/09/08/blades-of-fury/">pretty good</a>). You're going to enjoy the trailer after the break.<br /><br />In fact, the only way to approach <em>Blades of Fury</em> as anything other than just a <em>Soul Calibur</em> clone is to believe that Gameloft released it this week as an <em>homage</em> to <em>Soul Calibur</em>, ten years after the Dreamcast release. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://toucharcade.com/2009/09/08/blades-of-fury/">Touch Arcade</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/09/blades-of-fury-brings-high-calibur-fighting-to-iphone/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Blades of Fury brings high-'calibur' fighting to iPhone</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/09/blades-of-fury-brings-high-calibur-fighting-to-iphone/">Blades of Fury brings high-'calibur' fighting to iPhone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Sep 2009 23:45:00 EST. Do you like it enough to pay a dollar for it? Namco Bandai announced a new iTunes music label called Namco Sounds, which will add remastered game soundtracks on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month.<br /><br />The inaugural offerings include a <em>Soul Calibur </em>sampler, called <em>SoulCalibur Suite: The Resonance of Souls and Swords,</em> and sound effect collections from <em>Pac-Man</em> and <em>Xevious</em>. A $3 charge for each "album" isn't <em>terrible</em> -- it's equal to the cost of buying each of the <em>Calibur</em> tracks individually, and it's a fairly small price to pay for the full set of in-game sounds for the other games.<br /><br />Due to the nature of iTunes, however, individual tracks from the sound collections are <em>spectacular</em> ripoffs. Each sound effect, purchased separately, is 99 cents. We don't need "Special Flag: Get" or the incredibly irritating <em>Xevious</em> theme <em>that</em> badly. Do we?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/03/namco-bandais-new-itunes-sounds-will-eat-up-your-money/">Namco Bandai's new iTunes sounds will eat up your money</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Sep 2009 00:00:00 EST. <div align="left">When <em>Soul Calibur III </em>released on the PS2, its character creation mode added unprecedented depth to the series -- and subtracted most of our free time. It's fitting, then, that in keeping with its concept of being <em>totally awesome</em>, the series' first outing on PSP, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-broken-destiny"><em>Broken Destiny</em></a>, would up the ante.<br /><br />Its create-a-character goes beyond anything we've seen in a fighter on any platform. New options allow for precision-tuning of every aspect of a created combatant's appearance, including the size, position and angle of their various accessories. In one of the <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2009/07/18/soul_calibur_edit_mode/">example screens released by Namco</a>, a character's glasses go from resting on the tip of his nose to propped up on his brow (and presumably could be placed anywhere in-between). That clown in the above image? It's totally adjustable, in addition to being <em>really effing freaky</em>.</div>
<div align="left"><br />Perhaps the coolest option is the ability to create character portrait thumbnails that'll appear on the fighter selection screen. No more generic silhouettes or question marks. (Which makes us wonder: Will we be able to create a character that looks like a silhouette, or even <em>a question mark</em>?)<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2009/07/18/soul_calibur_edit_mode/">Adriasang</a>]</div>

As you can see in these new screenshots, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/05/soulcalibur-broken-destiny-trailer-transcends-psp-graphical-abi/"><em>Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny</em></a> isn't giving up the graphical detail found in the console games. Wait, Namco Bandai wasn't done announcing PSP games. Just <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/28/tekken-6-also-pummeling-psp/">an hour</a> after their <em>Tekken 6</em> announcement, the company also revealed a brand new <em>Soulcalibur</em> game for the handheld. <em>Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny</em> is a PSP-exclusive version of <em>Soulcalibur IV</em>. Gone are the <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/10/18/vader-to-invade-soulcalibur-iv-for-a-price/">Star Wars bonus characters</a>, but in their stead will be at least one new character: Dampiere.<br /><br /><em>Broken Destiny</em> will feature all the dressings of a console fighter, with arcade, versus and survival modes. New to the PSP version will be a new single-player mode meant for beginners struggling to learn the intricacies of the battle system. It will function, essentially, as an enhanced tutorial mode.<br /><br />The PSP version will also feature new lighting effects that allow players to fight in stages at different times of day. Other gameplay components, such as the critical finish and armor destruction are also supposedly improved. Finally, <em>Broken Destiny</em> will offer Ad-Hoc wireless play, although according to <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/soulcaliburbrokendestiny/news.html?page=1&amp;sid=6208732">Gamespot</a>, Infrastructure <em>might</em> be a possibility. Expect <em>Soulcalibur</em> to hit your no-longer-defunct PSP this summer.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/28/one-more-thing-soulcalibur-destiny-heading-to-psp/">One more thing: Soulcalibur Broken Destiny heading to PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Apr 2009 20:05:00 EST. Companies like to keep secrets, hiding their upcoming projects from the general public until the marketing and PR stars align. However, leaks can come from a variety of sources: ESRB database listings, early achievement reveals, and trademark registrations. <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=15068436&amp;postcount=143">NeoGAF</a>'s Stormbringer has compiled a list of new Japanese trademarks and one entry in particular caught our attention: Namco Bandai's <em>EXCALIBUR</em>.<br /><br />While the trademark in question could be a reference to the classic story of King Arthur, we can't help but remember another popular Namco Bandai franchise: <em>Soulcalibur</em> (yes, it's one word). Could Namco Bandai be looking into creating a spin-off series of the popular fighting game? An even more dramatic possibility: the franchise will be donning an entirely new name. Let's not forget, the first game in the franchise was called <em>Soul Edge</em>, not <em>Soulcalibur</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/11/the-soul-still-burns-namco-bandai-registers-excalibur-trademark/">The soul still burns? <div align="left">It's no longer a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/26/rumor-vador-dlc-to-darken-soulcalibur-iv/">rumor</a>, Darth Vader will in fact be coming to a <em>SoulCalibur IV</em> near you. Though, for a price.</div>

<br />
On Thursday, October 23rd, the once Playstation 3 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/09/darth-vader-and-yoda-join-soul-calibur-iv-seriously/">exclusive</a> <em>SoulCalibur IV</em> Vader character will be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/17/soulcalibur-iv-getting-vader-and-yoda-dlc/">available for purchase</a> off the Xbox Live Marketplace. Purchasable for 400 Microsoft points. Yes, we'll admit, $5 for Vader is a bit expensive, but when you look at what you're getting in terms of getting the chance to pit Yoda against Vader in an epic <em>SoulCalibur IV</em> battle of awesomeness. Well, then it doesn't seem too bad. But we must ask, where's our unlockable Jar Jar Binks?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/18/vader-to-invade-soulcalibur-iv-for-a-price/">Vader to invade Soulcalibur IV for a price</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 18 Oct 2008 10:45:00 EST. SHOCK! Namco Bandai has just announced that Xbox 360's exclusive <em>Soulcalibur IV</em> character, Yoda, will be available as DLC on the PS3. We totally didn't <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/yoda-as-dlc-for-soulcalibur-iv-says-korean-playstation-site/">see this coming</a>.<br /><br />The DLC pack will be available next Thursday, October 23rd, and will cost $4.99. Xbox 360 owners will be able to access the PS3-exclusive character, Darth Vader, for 400 Microsoft Points.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/17/yoda-appearing-as-soulcalibur-iv-dlc-will-cost-5/">Yoda appearing as Soulcalibur IV DLC, will cost $5</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Oct 2008 11:45:00 EST. <em>Street Fighter IV</em> is unlikely to have exclusive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/18/vader-and-yoda-square-off-in-new-soul-calibur-iv-trailer/">console-specific characters</a> (like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Soul-Calibur-IV/"><em>Soul Calibur IV</em></a><em>)</em> when it releases next year, the game's producer tells <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/26-08-2008-9166.html">Videogamer</a>. Yoshinori Ono believes the idea of exclusive characters is unfair -- and that extends to "downloadable characters" as well.<br /><br />Yoshinori expresses that this is only his "policy," however, so we won't rule out the influence of the Capcom overlords. <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/street-fighter-iv">SF IV</a></em> is expected on consoles around the time the <em>Street Fighter</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/street-fighter-iv-releasing-alongside-movie-in-2009-says-films/">movie releases in early 2009</a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/">Street Fighter IV</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337097"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/guile_006-252009-37_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337096"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/dan_004-252009-26_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337095"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/cviper_001-252009-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337094"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/balrog_005-252009-49_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337093"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/seth_004-252009-8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/26/street-fighter-iv-producer-console-specific-characters-not-very-fair/">Street Fighter IV producer: Console-specific characters 'not very fair'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Aug 2008 15:30:00 EST. And before you ask, we'll admit that we don't know all that much about the demo, what's included or which characters are featured in it (fingers crossed for Yoda), so don't ask us. Just download it and quit being so darn lazy. But, we do know what our favorite thing about the <em>SoulCalibur IV</em> demo is, and it's the NAMCO-BANDAI supplied demo description which reads: "Especially suitable for the players out there who are still undecided in purchasing the final product!" It looks like Yoda and Darth Vader are finally working together. You see, the two Jedi masters have managed to help push <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6195578.html">2 million copies</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soul Calibur IV</em></a> onto the gaming populace. The number accounts for both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 version of the game. We're curious to see which version sold more copies. No, not because we want the Xbox 360 version to succeed, but because we want some new nerd ammunition for the next time we get into the Darth Vader vs Yoda conversation.<br />

Namco Bandai's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/09/soul-calibur-ivs-secret-characters-darth-vader-and-yoda/">ridiculously cross-branded</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soul Calibur IV</em></a> has cut a deep swath into retail shelves worldwide, shipping not one million units <em>but two </em>since its July 29 debut. <br /><br />Still, and not to make an example out of you, Namco, but really all of this chest puffery over units shipped is a bit overblown. <div align="left">If Katsutoshi Sasaki, the director of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soulcalibur-iv"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a><em>,</em> is to be believed, there will be no Yoda in the form of DLC in the PS3 version. There won't be a Vader DLC for the 360 version, for that matter. <br /><br />The interview in <a href="http://www.msxbox-world.com/xbox360/features/article/321/XCN-Soul-Calibur-IV-QA-with-Katsutoshi-Sasaki-Director.html">MSXBox World</a> contains mostly questions about the Xbox 360 version, but when asked "will there ever be a time when we can have Darth Vader and Yoda on the same console?" Sasaki gave a clear reply of "we don't have any plans for that." The interview is dated August 31st, 2008, but we are going to assume it is from July 31st.<br /><br />This is contrary to earlier reports on the official Korean <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/yoda-as-dlc-for-soulcalibur-iv-says-korean-playstation-site/">PlayStation site</a> claiming Yoda will be available for download from the PSN. And videos like <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5mgc2O1TTc">this</a> certainly won't help douse those rumors.<br /></div>

For players looking to expand their musical experience in a tale of souls and swords, eternally retold, Namco Bandai has released all 17 tracks from the original <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Soulcalibur/">Soulcalibur</a></em> soundtrack on the Xbox Live Marketplace for play within <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Soul-calibur-IV/">Soulcalibur IV</a></em>. At 80MS points a piece or 1,200MS points for the entire pack, the content is truly for the hardcore <em>SoCal</em> fans -- or those with an affinity for nonsense DLC.<br />
<br />
Also available on the XBLM is <em>actual</em> content for the game! The Customization Equipment 1 pack clocks in at 100MS points and includes a number of new items to use for character customization. The content pack is also revival themed in that it includes equipment <em>Soulcalibur</em> fans will recognize from previous games in the series -- including armor sets and headgear for a number of characters.<br />

The character creation tools of <em>Soulcalibur IV</em> look to be rather robust. <a href="http://kotaku.com/5030235/metal-gear-solid-in-my-soulcalibur-iv">Kotaku</a>'s CB has created facsimiles of our favorite <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> characters, Snake and Raiden, using the in-game system. While not 100% spot-on, these renders do add a distinct <em>Metal Gear</em> flair to the classic fighter. Seeing these two fighting on the Death Star with <em>Soulcalibur</em> weapons ... well, that's the kind of stuff fanfics are made of.<br /><br />[Thanks, Gambit07!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/29/snake-versus-raiden-the-sciv-user-generated-match/">Snake versus Raiden: the SCIV user generated match</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Jul 2008 09:30:00 EST. Over the weekend, a video of Darth Vader and Yoda fighting each other in <em>Soulcalibur IV</em> was leaked onto the internet (and then it was subsequently pulled). Currently, Darth Vader lives only on the PS3 version, while Yoda lives only on the Xbox 360 version. Could Namco Bandai be planning DLC which unlocks the famed Star Wars characters in both versions? It would make a lot of sense, wouldn't it?<br /><br />According to the <a href="http://www.playstation.co.kr/ps3/ps3_games_view.sce?sid=1281">Korean PlayStation site</a>, Yoda will be available for download from the PSN. That sounds like DLC to us. While Namco Bandai hasn't confirmed anything yet, we wouldn't be surprised if Yoda (and who knows what other characters) ended up appearing in <em>Soulcalibur IV</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2008/07/28/sony-computer-entertainment-korea-leaks-yoda-as-soulcalibur-iv-ps3-dlc/">Siliconera</a>; Image via <a href="http://www.gamersreports.com/news/8653/vader-coming-to-360-soul-calibur-iv-as-download-screens/">GamersReports</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/yoda-as-dlc-for-soulcalibur-iv-says-korean-playstation-site/">Yoda as DLC for Soulcalibur IV, says Korean PlayStation site</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Jul 2008 17:30:00 EST. This is it folks, this week officially marks the release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soul Calibur IV</em></a>. You may recall <em>SCIV</em> as the weapons based fighter that features not only <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/17/more-d-cups-runneth-over-new-sc-iv-shots/">ridiculously proportioned female fighters</a> but also <em>Yoda</em>. The Playstation 3 version gets Darth Vader himself, though he may be Force choking his way to the 360 if <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/26/rumor-vador-dlc-to-darken-soulcalibur-iv/">rumors</a> are to be believed. Also on the release this week are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/spectral-force-3-site-launches-first-screens/"><em>Spectral Force 3</em></a> and <em>Summer Athletics The Ultimate Challenge</em>. <em>Spectral Force 3</em> is a Japanese strategy RPG and <em>Summer Athletics The Ultmate Challenge </em>is ... well, honestly, we have no idea. Looking at the title, we'd say someone is looking to cash in on the Olympic Games.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/new-games-this-week-soul-calibur-iv-edition/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/shipping-this-week-now-with-more-yoda-edition/">Shipping this week: Now with more Yoda edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Jul 2008 15:45:00 EST. Once thought to be the only good, pure and white edition of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>SoulCalibur IV</em></a> may eventually be tainted with DLC from the dark side. Rumor on the internets is that NAMCO's Xbox 360 edition of <em>SoulCalibur IV</em>, which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/09/darth-vader-and-yoda-join-soul-calibur-iv-seriously/">exclusively includes</a> Yoda and a white color scheme, may eventually get the PS3 exclusive Darth Vader fighter as a <a href="http://www.gamersreports.com/news/8653/vader-coming-to-360-soul-calibur-iv-as-download-screens/">content download</a>. Proof is in the in-game video pudding and, as you can see above, we have proof that both Yoda AND Darth Vader can battle it out in on the same Xbox 360. If true, are you willing to pay for a DLC Darth Vadar or do you demand your Vadar to be free content?<br />

Never mind that we totally caught Yoda and Vader face to face in a <em>Soul Calibur IV</em> trailer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/18/vader-and-yoda-square-off-in-new-soul-calibur-iv-trailer/">months ago</a>, Namco Bandai's official line has remained: Yoda is in the Xbox 360 version, Darth Vader in the PlayStation 3 one. While some of us assumed both characters could be unlocked in either version (except <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2007/10/ludwig-on-panda.jpg">Ludwig</a>, he pre-ordered both editions just to be safe), Namco Bandai has apparently come up with a better idea. Why not <em>sell</em> Darth Vader as DLC to Xbox 360 owners? (And presumably, why not pimp out Yoda to PS3 players?)<br /><br /><a href="http://www.gamersreports.com/news/8653/vader-coming-to-360-soul-calibur-iv-as-download-screens/">GamersReports</a> has allegedly obtained another "quality exclusive" in three screenshots that depict Vader as a selectable character in the Xbox 360 version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soul Calibur IV</em></a>. To be fair, the report only suggests that Vader would be offered as an "add-on download" and does not specify whether or not that would be paid content or a fan service freebie. The site adds, "No word on when, or even if ever it will be released." Oh the suspense!<br /><br />[Thanks, alvin]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/25/rumor-vader-dlc-bringing-dark-side-to-xbox-360-soul-calibur-iv/">Rumor: Vader DLC bringing dark side to Xbox 360 Soul Calibur IV</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Jul 2008 18:20:00 EST. Fighting fans hoping for a pre-launch lightsaber throw down will wait until <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-IV">Soul Calibur IV</a> </em>cuts into retail shelves later this month, as Namco Bandai informs us that a demo for the game won't be available until after the game is released.<br /><br />According to reps manning the company's E3 room, the devs are currently putting all of their effort towards getting the game ready for its release for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on July 29. As for what and when exactly we can expect from the demo when it's finally released, Namco Bandai wouldn't say, teasing only that it'll be available sometime "down the road."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/sould-calibur-iv-demo-coming-down-the-road/">Soul Calibur IV demo coming 'down the road'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Jul 2008 16:45:00 EST. Despite appearing in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a> UbiDays 2008 Transcendence trailer, Algol didn't become official until today. Heralded as the "<span class="text_article_body">strongest character ever in <em>SC</em> series" by character designer Hideo Yoshie, Algol possesses the Soul Calibur on his left hand and the Soul Edge on his right. He can also fly in the air and has ten kinds of weapons built into his body. Algol's armor is of a bird motif and originated in an ancient kingdom lost to the sands of time. While the above picture shows Algol when he was still human, his hair color change signifies his transformation into something more.<br /><br /></span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/11/algol-officially-joins-the-soulcalibur-iv-roster/">Algol officially joins the Soulcalibur IV roster</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Jul 2008 21:30:00 EST. Pre-orders for the fighter have been impressive on Sony's console. The PS3 versions of the game have amassed 72% of sales (52% premium, 20% regular edition) compared to the 360 versions' combined 28%.<br /><br />Such impressive numbers show that a third-party title can perform just as well, if not better, on PS3 than on Xbox 360. What can account for such an impressive showing by PlayStation fans? Could it be the series regulars from the PS2, the superior D-Pad, or the dark allure of Darth Vader over Yoda?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.n4g.com/ps3/News-167974.aspx">N4G</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/11/ps3-soulcalibur-iv-pre-orders-trumping-competition/">PS3 Soulcalibur IV pre-orders trumping competition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Jul 2008 10:15:00 EST. The mandatory install itself will be 2,850MB or 2.85GB while a save file will start at 2048KB or 2MB. Obviously, the more characters you <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/soulcalibur-ivs-story-mode-to-feature-tag-team-swapping/">create</a>, the more space it is going to take up on your hard drive. Does this seem more reasonable to you guys? Do you still mind sacrificing some HD space for faster load times? Or still hoping developers eliminate them altogether?<br /><br />[Thanks, Emophia!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/09/soulcalibur-iv-hd-install-size-2-85gb-with-2mb-saves/">Soulcalibur IV HD install size: 2.85GB with 2MB+ saves</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Jul 2008 14:00:00 EST. <div align="left">There are 38 new screenshots of the PS3 version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a> over at <a href="http://news.dengeki.com/elem/000/000/091/91158/">Dengeki Online</a>, showcasing all the modes in the game. Under the banner of single player we have Story, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/soulcalibur-ivs-story-mode-to-feature-tag-team-swapping/">Soulless Tower</a>, Arcade and Training modes. Under VS Mode, you will have the choice of Standard or Special mode, depending on whether you want customized characters thrown into the mix. Extras are also highlighted, with Character Creation mode and Museum, which appears to give the player access to relationship charts, bios and pictures. There's even some old-fashioned manga funnies at the end. <div align="left">48:40. That's amount of time into yesterday's 1UP Yours <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/minisite?cId=3149993">podcast</a> that reveals Kratos will not be in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a>. They have been playing the game on both Xbox 360 and PS3 (though Yoda is mentioned immediately after the Kratos comment, they do speak of Darth Vader later) and they do not see Kratos in it. Unless there is some last minute change, which is unlikely, Kratos will not be in the main game. Sorry kids! Let's all hope for something in the form of DLC then, shall we?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.n4g.com/ps3/News-165380.aspx">N4G</a>]</div>
