Not even the metaphorical constraints of intellectual property are enough to contain Twisted Pixel's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/splosion-man"><em>'Splosion Man</em></a>, apparently, as indie developer VBlank Entertainment has revealed that both Mr. And <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ms-splosion-man"><em>Ms. 'Splosion Man</em></a> will join the cast of its upcoming pixel-art chiptune meta-homage <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/retro-city-rampage"><em>Retro City Rampage</em></a>.<br />
<br />
VBlank told MineCon 2011 attendees that <em>'Splosion Man</em> is "the first of <em>Retro City Rampage</em>'s official indie (or previously indie) crossovers," a statement that indicates future crossover announcements while simultaneously poking at Twisted Pixel's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/12/microsoft-buys-indie-developer-twisted-pixel/">recent change in corporate structure.</a> Check out the trailer above for a glimpse at <em>RCR</em>'s isometric take on 'splode-based platforming.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/retro-city-rampage-splosion-man/">Retro City Rampage ('Splosion Man)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/retro-city-rampage-splosion-man/#4624638"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/logosplosion_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/retro-city-rampage-splosion-man/#4624637"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/logomssplosion_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/retro-city-rampage-splosion-man/#4624639"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/rcrsplosion003_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/retro-city-rampage-splosion-man/#4624640"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/rcrsplosion002_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/retro-city-rampage-splosion-man/#4624641"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/rcrsplosion001_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/19/splosion-man-coming-to-retro-city-rampage/">'Splosion Man coming to Retro City Rampage</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 Nov 2011 14:30:00 EST. After developing games exclusively for Xbox 360 and PC, it's fair to say that indie dev Twisted Pixel has been going steady with Microsoft. Today, the two have finally tied the knot as the Redmond corporation announced that it has purchased the Austin studio.<br />
<br />
That may be terrifying news for fans of the dev, which has built games like <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/splosion-man">'Splosion Man</a></em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-gunstringer"><em>The Gunstringer</em></a> around its scrappy DIY aesthetic. But Matt Booty, general manager of Microsoft Studios, told Joystiq it's exactly that character that the company hopes to preserve after the sale.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/12/microsoft-buys-indie-developer-twisted-pixel/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Microsoft buys indie developer Twisted Pixel</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/12/microsoft-buys-indie-developer-twisted-pixel/">Microsoft buys indie developer Twisted Pixel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Oct 2011 06:00:00 EST. It's summer, and that means a wasteland of retail releases, but never fear, there are plenty of great smaller titles on the way. XBLA has turned the Summer drought into a veritable smorgasbord of great downloadable releases, and the indie scene is looking to bring their goods as well.<br />
<br />
Twisted Pixel delivered <em>Ms. Splosion Man</em> last week, and Richard talks with Twisted Pixel's Frank Wilson about the follow-up to 2009's XBLA hit. Indie games are also getting their due with an interview about the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/18/8-headlining-games-chosen-for-indie-games-summer-uprising/">Indie Games Summer Uprising</a> on XBL. Supergiant Games's freshman effort and Summer of Arcade 2011 opener, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/19/bastion-review/">Bastion</a></em>, gets an audio review from Ludwig and a review roundtable featuring MTV Games's Russ Frushtick.<br />

Twisted Pixel has announced that the first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/13/ms-splosion-mans-tms-system-isnt-what-you-think/">Title Managed Storage (TMS) challenge</a> has been launched for <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/ms-splosion-man"><em>Ms. 'Splosion Man</em></a>. The challenge, which features Mr. Destructoid as an in-game character, requires no extra download and should be accessible from the main menu of the game. It will be open until July 31.<br />
<br />
Those who managed to grab 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in the leaderboard by the end of the challenge will win a prize pack including a Ms. 'Splosion Man statue, Destructoid bobble head and T-shirts and posters. One random contestant will also receive a Twisted Pixel prize pack, so even those without the best 'sploding skills have a shot at winning something.<br />
<br />
In addition to the TMS challenge, Twisted Pixel has also released a new level for the original <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/splosion-man">'Splosion Man</a></em>. The level serves as a quick prologue to <em>Ms. 'Splosion Man</em>, and details just how the team at Big Science lured him into a trap. The DLC is free and <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Prologue-to-Ms-Splosion-Man/550acd02-b0e0-419a-8fb8-b76f5f7fcf53?cid=SLink">available now</a> on Xbox Live Marketplace.<br />

The pack's North American release date was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/09/limbo-trials-hd-and-splosion-man-coming-to-retail-in-xbla-tripl/">previously announced as being April 19</a>.<br />
<br />
The North American price had been confirmed at $29.99, but there is currently no official price for Europe and the UK. The European edition will also include a 48-hour Xbox Live Gold trial and 160 MS Points ($2). That's a decent deal, and it reinforces what we're always saying: Who needs the internet?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/28/limbo-trials-hd-and-splosion-man-retail-pack-in-europe-on-may-1/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Limbo, Trials HD and Splosion Man retail pack in Europe on May 13</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/28/limbo-trials-hd-and-splosion-man-retail-pack-in-europe-on-may-1/">Limbo, Trials HD and Splosion Man retail pack in Europe on May 13</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Mar 2011 13:40:00 EST. Fans of deep-fried musical accompaniment were treated to a live performance of "Donuts, Go Nuts!" at PAX East -- complete with ukulele, lagging sing-along display and donut donations from Major Nelson. Watch the full <em>Splosion Man</em> song, performed by Twisted Pixel audio lead Matt "Chainsaw" Chaney, right after the break.<br />
<br />
Aside from enveloping fans in catchy tunes, Twisted Pixel covered two S-model Xbox 360s in custom skins. There's a <em>Gunstringer</em>-themed console up for grabs in a random draw and a system swathed in glossy <em>Ms. Splosion Man</em> art can be won through a time-trial challenge in a playable build of the game that runs until Sunday. If you can't go see the special consoles yourself, have a look through our galleries below. Three of Xbox Live Arcade's most lauded games are getting bundled together in one retail package, it seems. Twisted Pixel CEO and co-founder, Michael Wilford, revealed <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QIY0Y4">this Amazon listing</a> on Twitter today, commenting that a bundle of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/limbo"><em>Limbo</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/trials-hd"><em>Trials HD</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/splosion-man"><em>Splosion Man</em></a> was initially only headed to Japan and now will be available in North America, as well.<br />
<br />
The Amazon listing suggests a $29.99 price point, which seems a little low -- Limbo is normally $15, while the other two are $10 -- so we've followed up with Microsoft for confirmation and an expected launch date. We'll let you know what we find out.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update</strong>: A Microsoft representative has confirmed with Joystiq that the $29.99 price is accurate and that the bundle will be available for purchase on April 19 either through online retailers or on store shelves here in the US. It'll also come with a 48-hour Xbox Live Gold trial and 160 MS Points.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/09/limbo-trials-hd-and-splosion-man-coming-to-retail-in-xbla-tripl/">Limbo, Trials HD and Splosion Man coming to retail in XBLA triple pack [Update: It's coming on April 19!]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Mar 2011 18:03:00 EST. Just a couple of days after the company <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/11/capcom-mobile-rips-off-splosion-man-for-maxplosion/">started catching heat</a> for ripping off Twisted Pixel's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/splosion-man"><em>Splosion Man</em></a> with iPhone clone <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/maxplosion"><em>MaXplosion</em></a>, Capcom (which previously passed on the opportunity to publish TP's original) has released an official statement to Joystiq about the situation.<br />
<br />
Capcom admits that its console team met with Twisted Pixel, but says that Capcom Mobile (the group behind <em>MaXplosion</em>) had no knowledge of those meetings. "Nonetheless," the statement read, "we are saddened by this situation and hope to rebuild the trust of our fans and friends in the gaming community."<br />
<br />
We asked for some clarification -- specifically about whether Capcom was "saddened" enough to pull the game from the App Store -- but were shot down. Check out Capcom's full statement to us after the break.<br />

Already lining up your established video game intellectual property-themed wardrobe for the upcoming festivities at PAX East 2011? You might want to throw a costume based on one of Twisted Pixels' creations into the mix, as the developer <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/twisted_pixel/status/25299006510866432">announced over Twitter</a> that one lucky <em>'Splosion Man</em>, <em>The Maw</em>, <em>Comic Jumper</em> or <em>Ms. 'Splosion Man</em> cosplayer who comes to the studio's booth on the show floor will have a character <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/twisted_pixel/status/25299290163253249">modeled after them</a> appear in an upcoming title of its choosing.<br />
<br />
"This will be a 'walk on role' for lack of a better term, as a character somewhere in the game. Background of this character will depend on where we feel they can fit in the story," a Twisted Pixel rep explained to Joystiq in more detail. "The winner will be updated on the status of their character and what game it will be when we get close to announcing the title."<br />
<br />
Everyone who stops by the booth in-costume will end up on Twisted Pixel's official website, while three runners-up will get their names in the credits of the unspecified game -- everyone, of course, has a chance to play those <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/12/ms-splosion-man-and-unannounced-twisted-pixel-title-playable-a/">unreleased games</a>.The studio <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/twisted_pixel/status/25300282543968256">also promises</a> a very special prize for folks who show up as the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/12/twisted-pixel-ceo-we-wont-pursue-legal-action-over-maxplosion/">increasingly infamous MaXplosion</a> -- "a kick to the face." Twisted Pixel CEO Michael Wilford says his comparatively tiny team won't be suing mega-publisher Capcom for its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/11/capcom-mobile-rips-off-splosion-man-for-maxplosion/">blatant attempt</a> to rip off the studio's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/splosion-man">Splosion Man</a></em> with iOS clone <em>MaXplosion</em> (pictured). "We're definitely not going to pursue legal action," Wilford told Joystiq. "While I think the similarities are pretty nauseating, we're too small to take on a company like Capcom. That, and we owe them one for inventing <em>Mega Man</em>, so we'll let them slide."<br />
<br />
"We just need to keep our heads down making the next thing so that Capcom has something to steal next year," he chided, while adding that he hopes Capcom is "not counting on the fact that indies can't fight back." "We'll just have to make our own mobile game," he challenged. "We'll let you know when we have something on the mobile front to talk about, but now we have added incentive!"<br />
<br />
Wilford also <a href="http://twitter.com/mrwilford/status/24994771051220993">tweeted</a> that the "best part" is that Twisted Pixel had originally pitched <em>Splosion Man</em> to Capcom, but the publisher passed on it. Speaking of Twitter, he said "the amount of support we've seen in the last 12 hours on Twitter and over email has been awesome, and I think that's better than [winning] a stupid lawsuit or anything like that." <br />
<br />
A Capcom Mobile representative told us that a statement from the company on the matter would hopefully be released later today. Wildford's full response is posted after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/12/twisted-pixel-ceo-we-wont-pursue-legal-action-over-maxplosion/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Twisted Pixel CEO: We won't pursue legal action over Capcom's MaXplosion</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/12/twisted-pixel-ceo-we-wont-pursue-legal-action-over-maxplosion/">Twisted Pixel CEO: We won't pursue legal action over Capcom's MaXplosion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Jan 2011 13:39:00 EST. "Holy crap, <em>'<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/splosion-man">Splosion Man</a></em> got released for iPhone? How did I miss that?"<br />
<br />
We can forgive your confusion as you check out the above screen and the video below the jump, but no, it's not <em>'Splosion Man</em>, no matter how much every single one of your senses may attest to that fact. No, this is <em>MaXplosion</em>, an iPhone game dumped on iTunes late last week.<br />
<br />
Ready for the craziest bit? This isn't some fly-by-night Korean developer operating out of some dude's basement as you might have assumed. No, this is all Capcom Mobile, which is ... disappointing, to say the least.<br />
<br />
Speaking <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/mikehasnoluck/status/24945224337850369">on his personal Twitter account</a>, Twisted Pixel programmer Mike Henry said "<em>MaXplosion</em> gameplay video makes me sad. Listen Capcom, we know <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/06/shadow-guardian-preview/">copycatting is <em>rampant</em></a> on the App Store, but ... you're Capcom for crying out loud! Fresh out of containment and ready to butcher countless more scientists, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ms-splosion-man">Ms. Splosion Man</a></em> was revealed this evening by Twisted Pixel. Alongside the first teaser and news of next fall's <em>splosive</em> sequel, Twisted Pixel CCO Josh Bear spoke with us about all things <em>MSM</em>. We got to the important stuff upfront, pinning Bear to the wall about the real difference between Mr. and Ms. Splosion Man. "Splosion Man has a penis, Ms. Splosion Man has a vagina," he confessed. <em>Solved</em>.<br />
<br />
Oh, right, there was also talk of the reasoning behind a full-on sequel in terms of gameplay. Bear explained: "I think with <em>Splosion Man</em> a follow up was something we really wanted to do, and that is why you never saw DLC for that game. We could have churned out new levels, but we wouldn't have had the time to add in new gameplay puzzles or cool new character stuff. But we didn't just want to do <em>Splosion Man 2</em>, it had to be something a ittle more interesting. That is why we decided to do <em>MSM</em>."<br />
<br />
And that's not all! Apparently Twisted Pixel is already hard at work on another game -- an entirely new IP, in fact -- with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/02/rock-band-senior-designer-dan-teasdale-leaves-harmonix-for-twist/">ex-Harmonix designer Dan Teasdale</a>. <em>'Spolsion Man,</em> one or our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/04/joystiqs-best-of-2009/#top">absolute favorites</a> of 2009, enjoyed a surprise sales surge last week, rocketing to the top of the Xbox Live Arcade bestseller list. That's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/26/splosion-man-trials-hd-more-black-friday-deals-live-on-xblm/">the power</a> of Black Friday and a one-day, 75-percent discount.<br />
<br />
In fact, thirteen of the top twenty bestsellers for the week of November 22 were on sale for at least part of the period, and the only <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/23/xbox-live-thanksgiving-week-sale-detailed/">discounted</a> XBLA title not to chart was poor <em>Voodoo Dice</em>. Amidst the apparently too-good-to-refuse deals, <em>Crazy Taxi</em> made a strong debut in the number six position in its first week of release, and <em>Pac-Man CE DX</em> ate up a top-ten spot in its second week of availability.<br />
<br />
As for Xbox Live activity, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/call-of-duty-black-ops"><em>Black Ops</em></a> recruits and <em>Modern Warfare 2</em> veterans (who aren't about to surrender <em>that</em> easily) continue to hog the most bandwidth, followed by the <em>Reach</em> faithful and -- watch out for that <em>Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood</em> sneaking up the activity chart! Speaking of no surrender, how about W<em>orld at War</em> and <em>Call of Duty 4</em> (remember that one?) hanging around the top twenty most-played Xbox Live games? No wonder Activision wants to better tap its gold mine <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/11/call-of-duty-dlc-to-be-activisions-largest-digital-offering-ev/">next year</a>.<br />
<br />
Both Top Twenty charts are posted in full after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/01/splosion-man-splodes-to-top-of-xbla-sales-chart/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'Splosion Man 'splodes to top of XBLA sales chart</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/01/splosion-man-splodes-to-top-of-xbla-sales-chart/">'Splosion Man 'splodes to top of XBLA sales chart</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Dec 2010 13:30:00 EST. <br />
Of the week-long "Black Friday" deals -- beginning tomorrow, November 23, through Monday, November 29 -- <em>'Splosion Man</em> for two dang bucks (Friday only) is the clear <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/joystiqs-top-10-of-2009-splosion-man/">standout</a>. We've already established that the Xbox 360's Kinect <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/19/kinect-dashboard-navigation-works-while-seated/">can handle a seated person</a> when the application supports it. But what about a grinning, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/splosion-man">highly combustible</a> bug-eyed being and his entourage of faceless scientists? You may be surprised by the answer -- and how closely this resembles an actual Lady Gaga music video.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/06/get-a-splode-of-this-splosion-man-playing-dance-central-at-pa/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Get a 'splode of this: 'Splosion Man playing Dance Central at PAX</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/06/get-a-splode-of-this-splosion-man-playing-dance-central-at-pa/">Get a 'splode of this: 'Splosion Man playing Dance Central at PAX</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Sep 2010 22:30:00 EST. Not at PAX? Want to live vicariously through the power of the internet? We can think of no better solution to your dilemma than to recommend you watch our video of Matt "Chainsaw" Chaney's ukelele performance of "Donuts, Go Nuts!" from the Twisted Pixel booth this afternoon. And look on the bright side: You can go flip on your Xbox and play <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Splosion-Man/"><em>Splosion Man</em></a> (again!) while all these suckers at PAX are left napping on beanbag chairs.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/04/video-watch-splosion-mans-donuts-go-nuts-song-performed-li/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Video: Watch Splosion Man's 'Donuts, Go Nuts!' song performed live at PAX</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/04/video-watch-splosion-mans-donuts-go-nuts-song-performed-li/">Video: Watch Splosion Man's 'Donuts, Go Nuts!' song performed live at PAX</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 04 Sep 2010 20:30:00 EST. For the third year in a row, Microsoft hosted a community poll on Xbox Live to determine the best Xbox Live Arcade games as judged by the players. And like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/23/xbla-awards-braid-cant-rewind-loss-to-castle-crashers/">last year</a>, when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/01/joystiqs-top-10-of-2008-braid/">Joystiq favorite</a> <em>Braid </em>was overthrown by those persistent <strike>party</strike> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers">castle crashers</a>, 2009's "Best Overall Arcade Game" goes to <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/trials-hd">Trials HD</a></em> over Joystiq Best of 2009 winners <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/joystiqs-top-10-of-2009-shadow-complex/"><em>Shadow Complex</em></a> and <em>'<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/joystiqs-top-10-of-2009-splosion-man/">Splosion Man</a></em> (which both did manage to win lesser awards in the Xbox Live poll).<br />
<br />
We've posted the complete list of awards and winners, which also include <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/battlefield-1943">Battlefield 1943</a>, </em><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/hasbro-family-game-night">Hasbro Family Game Night</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/banjo-tooie">Banjo-Tooie</a></em>, after the break. We wish we possessed the kind of thought processes required to make the mental association between the release of the Rock Band Network and the catchy, quirky ditties from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splosion-man"><em>'Splosion Man</em></a>. The game's theme is already up on the RBN Store, but that's not the extent of the musical 'Splodiness -- in <a href="http://savygamer.co.uk/2010/04/01/interview-twisted-pixels-mike-wilford/">an interview with SavyGamer</a>, Twisted Pixel CEO Mike Wilford revealed two other tracks from the game would soon hit the Network: "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsKjxErG5rg">The 'Splode Beneath My 'Splosion</a>" and "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QC1LnXATJ_c">Donuts Song.</a>"<br />
<br />
No time frame has been given for the songs' release, but that hasn't stopped our excitement for the vocal part of "T'SBM'S" from growing to catastrophic, earth-quaking levels<span style="font-style: italic;">.</span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/04/more-splosion-man-songs-coming-to-rock-band-network/">More 'Splosion Man songs coming to Rock Band Network</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 04 Apr 2010 16:30:00 EST. We told you <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/26/splosion-man-splores-5-price-point-next-week/">last week</a>, but with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mass-effect-2"><em>a certain something</em></a> likely taking up every ounce of delicious brain juice you've got right now, we felt it prudent to put out a reminder. '<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splosion-man"><em>Splosion Man</em></a>, Twisted Pixel's game of splodey splendor, is <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2010/02/01/deal-of-the-week-splosion-man.aspx">50 percent off this week</a> on Xbox Live, bringing it down to a very reasonable 400<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> price tag. If you haven't bothered to check it out yet -- it <em>is </em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/joystiqs-top-10-of-2009-splosion-man/">one of 2009's best games</a>, y'know -- then there's really no excuse now. <br />

Twisted Pixel's highly combustible Xbox Live Arcade platformer and object of Joystiq <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/joystiqs-top-10-of-2009-splosion-man/">adoration</a>,<em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splosion-man">'Splosion Man</a></em>, will headline the upcoming Marketplace schedule (as relayed by <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2010/01/26/xbox-live-marketplace-release-schedule-jan-25-2009.aspx">Major Nelson</a>) with a temporary 50-percent price reduction. After dropping to 400<span class="album_title"><img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /></span> ($5) for the week of February 1, <em>'Splosion Man</em> should prove more challenging to blow <em>off</em> than up. <br />
<br />
Other highlights include <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/chime"><em>Chime</em></a>, February 3's non-profit Xbox Live Arcade release from Zoe Mode and OneBigGame, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/20/halo-3-mythic-2-map-pack-coming-to-xbox-live-marketplace-on-feb/"><em>Halo 3 Mythic 2 Map Pack</em></a>, and the first part of <em>Assassin's Creed 2</em> downloadable content, "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/battle-of-forli">Battle of Forli</a>." When Twisted Pixel first announced <em>'Splosion Man</em>, we all thought it was a joke. The press release, received on April Fools' Day, described a man made of explosions. Specifically, the release noted, "Yeah, lots of 'splosions ... like a guy made out of 'splosions, and he'd be like 'splode 'splode 'splode! and then things die," and it continued, "He'll 'splode people, and they'll blow up into big steaks and ribeyes and stuff." The Joystiq team dismissed this announcement as a prank, which seemed appropriate for the studio that brought us <em>The Maw</em>. The following day, Twisted Pixel sent Joystiq another press release, assuring us that <em>'Splosion Man</em> was indeed real.<br />
<br />
And from that ridiculous premise came one of the best 2D platformers in years. <em>'Splosion Man</em> has just one button, the 'Splode Button, which accomplishes all tasks in the game. It's 'Splosion Man's attack, his action and, most importantly, his triple jump. Sending this point home, players can attempt to customize the controls from the options menu, only to find that every face button is mapped to the 'splode function. (You actually get an Achievement for trying to remap the controls.)<br />
<br />
Using this very simple control scheme, players 'splode enemies, solve puzzles and plow through fiendishly clever racing sections. Throw in a brilliant, four-player co-op mode that literally has everyone jumping off one another and <em>'Splosion Man</em> easily becomes one of the most refreshing experiences of 2009. Oh, and don't forget the donut song:<br />

We've got good news all around for fans of Twisted Pixel's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splosion-man"><em>'Splosion Man</em></a>, as well as advocates for <em>tender red meat</em>. The developer has announced that a title update has fixed laggy online multiplayer sessions and added <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2009/08/18/splosion-man-avatar-awards-revealed/">those unlockable Avatar awards</a> to the highly combustible Xbox Live Arcade platformer. To unlock all four shirts seen above (two for female Avatars and two for males), you must accomplish two feats: break a single pane of glass (easy!) and beat the entire co-op campaign (considerably less easy).<br />
<br />
Oh, right, the <em>meat thing</em>. In one of the greatest nonsensical partnerships in the history of civilization, Omaha Steaks has teamed up with Twisted Pixel to give away "hundreds of top-quality steak filets" to '<em>sploders</em> across the nation. To register for the giveaway, just <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/022f0038-0000-4000-8000-0000475207f5">download</a> and equip a special <em>'Splosion Man</em> gamerpic, and then play a few online multiplayer matches before November 22. If you win, you get steaks. If you're vegan, you <em>give them to us</em>.<br />

Twisted Pixel just announced <em>Comic Jumper</em>, its newest downloadable title. The platforms are still unannounced and the game is likely "more than a year away," according to Twisted Pixel Games co-founder Mike Wilford.<br /><br />You play as Captain Smiley, along with his cohort Star -- who is, umm, stuck to the Captain's chest. They're bonded together, but they hate each other! Sounds like the perfect way to expose gamers to <em>sticky</em> situations and witty dialogue, no? The game will have you sending Captain Smiley into different levels within assorted comic books, with the art style (and possibly gameplay) changing with each jump into a new book. <br /><br />"This is something that Josh [Bear, another co-founder, the third being Frank Wilson] has had in his mind since high school," Wilford said. We're wondering what it was doing in there for so long ... and what will happen once it escapes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/04/pax-2009-twisted-pixel-reveals-new-game-comic-jumper/">PAX 2009: Twisted Pixel reveals new game: Comic Jumper</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Sep 2009 20:15:00 EST. Major Nelson has <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/08/25/live-activity-for-week-of-aug-17th.aspx">revealed the latest figures</a> for Xbox Live activity, which once again sees <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em> being the most played Xbox 360 Live title. That's not to say it's all business as usual, as the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/20/demos-for-nhl-10-and-dirt-2-join-lost-planet-2-and-mini-ninjas-o/"><em>Lost Planet 2</em> co-op demo</a> managed to claw its way onto the list, along with a new Xbox Live Arcade pair, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shadow-complex"><em>Shadow Complex</em></a> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/trials-hd">Trials HD</a></em>.<br /><br />Both titles made it onto the top two spots on XBLA's most played list, with Chair's <em>Metroid</em>-inspired adventure making its debut in first place. The remainder is comprised of usual suspects <em>Battlefield 1943</em>, <em>Marvel vs Capcom 2</em> and <em>'Splosion Man</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/25/xbox-live-top-10-dominated-by-shadow-complex-cod/">Xbox Live Top 10 dominated by Shadow Complex, CoD: World at War</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Aug 2009 12:30:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Twisted Pixel has officially revealed the Avatar Awards that are set to appear in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splosion-man"><em>'Splosion Man</em></a> in the near future. Even better, the developer even told us the requirements to unlock the two awards. The first award is a men's T-shirt and a women's hoodie. To unlock it, simply break your first pane of glass in <em>'Splosion Man</em>. The second one, however, is just a <em>bit</em> more difficult. To unlock the Big Science T-shirt and dress, you'll have to complete the entire co-op campaign. Yeah, the whole thing.<br />
<br />
Finally, we've got one other bit of good news. If you've already accomplished these tasks, the items will automatically unlock. Unfortunately, we still don't know when the Avatar Awards will be available, but you can bet we'll be all over them -- and they will be all over our Avatars -- when they release.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/18/splosion-man-avatar-awards-revealed/">'Splosion Man Avatar Awards revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Aug 2009 18:45:00 EST. <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/08/04/live-activity-for-week-of-july-27th.aspx">Major Nelson</a>'s latest battle report comes as a bit of a surprise as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo-3"><em>Halo 3</em></a> was the most-played retail game of last week. With all of the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gears-of-war-2"><em>Gears of War 2</em></a> content, we were sure that game would be at the top, but Epic's title only managed to claw its way to fourth place yet again. It was bested by the usual double dose of <em>Call of Duty </em>action in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-4"><em>Call of Duty 4</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-world-at-war"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a>.<br /><br />On the XBLA side, the frenetic tag-based combat of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/marvel-vs-capcom-2"><em>Marvel vs Capcom 2</em></a> was too much for the competition. Capcom's brawler enjoyed top placement, finally bumping down <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/battlefield-1943"><em>Battlefield 1943</em></a> to second place. Coming in at third was none other than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splosion-man"><em>'Splosion Man</em></a>, Twisted Pixel's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/review-splosion-man/">excellent</a> follow-up to previous Arcade hit, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-maw"><em>The Maw</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/xbox-live-top-10-there-can-be-only-1-17/">Xbox Live Top 10: There can be only 1 (17)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Aug 2009 09:15:00 EST. Twisted Pixel, the crew behind charming 3D platformer <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/the-maw"><em>The Maw</em></a>, put out its first press release for <em>'Splosion Man</em> on April Fools' Day. The press release detailed a game more or less distilled purely from gaming stereotypes, about a man that not only created explosions, but was actually <em>made</em> of explosions -- or 'splosions, to be more precise -- and when he 'sploded hapless baddies, they would 'splode into various meat products (steaks, hams, etc.). One day later, Twisted Pixel sent out another press release to clarify that <em>'Splosion Man</em> was no joke.<br />
<br />
I'm here to tell you that <em>'Splosion Man</em> is definitely not a joke. It's one of the best 2D platformers in recent memory.<br />

So, here's an interesting promotion. A press release just hit the ol' Joystiq inbox, claiming that those who buy <em>all</em> of the Xbox Live <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/summer-of-arcade">Summer of Arcade</a> titles will be treated to 800<span class="album_title"><img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /></span>, also known as $10 in Microsoft's funny money. This calls for copy and paste!<br />
<ul>
    <li>July 22: '<em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/splosion-man">Splosion Man</a></em> <span class="album_title">800<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($10)</span></li>
    <li>July 29: <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/marvel-vs-capcom-2">Marvel vs. Capcom 2</a></em> <span class="album_title">1200<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($15)</span></li>
    <li>August 5: <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/turtles-in-time">TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-shelled</a></em> <span class="album_title">1200<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($15)</span></li>
    <li><span class="album_title">August 12: <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/trials-hd">Trials HD</a></em> </span><span class="album_title">1200<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($15)</span></li>
    <li>August 19: <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/shadow-complex">Shadow Complex</a></em> <span class="album_title">1200<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($15)</span></li>
</ul>
Just adding those up -- carry the one --- that's a free $10 for spending $70 on Xbox Live. Keep in mind it's $10 you can only spend <em>on</em> Xbox Live (or Zune Marketplace). While the deal might seem silly at first glance, it does essentially boil down to five XBLA games for $60, the price of <em>one</em> retail game. And, as another Joystiq editor pointed out, that retail game could never be <em>'Splosion Man</em>.<br />
<br />
It's a nice bonus if you already plan to pick up all the games. If you don't, you'll be saving money anyway. Everybody wins!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/microsoft-will-give-you-10-for-spending-70-on-xbox-live/">Microsoft will give you $10! Frank Wilson, co-founder and CTO of Twisted Pixel, said his studio's library of recent downloadable titles could potentially see life on other platforms. Just yesterday, Twisted Pixel unleashed the XBLA title <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splosion-Man/">'Splosion Man</a></em>, blasting the humorous hero and Xbox owners into Microsoft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/10/xblas-summer-of-arcade-lineup-reshuffled/">Summer of Arcade</a> promotion. In an interview with <a href="http://www.endsights.com/2009/07/23/splosion-man-a-possibility-for-ps3-wii/">Endsights</a>, Wilson said the small developer is not tied to any specific platform and the studio would consider a PlayStation Network and WiiWare release of <em>'Splosion Man</em> and the studio's adorable adventure title, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/The-Maw/">The Maw</a></em>, if it "found the right arrangement."<br /> <br /> So, other platforms could be in the cards, but Twisted Pixel is happy with what it's been able to achieve on the Xbox platform, so far. "We're getting pretty skilled with the Xbox 360, so it's definitely easiest for us to stick with it," Wilson said. Wilson's words aren't confirmation that either title will see life on other platforms, but at least we've cleared the air of any existing Microsoft money-hats.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/23/splosion-man-could-detonate-on-ps3-wii/">'Splosion Man could detonate on PS3, Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Jul 2009 15:15:00 EST. Wow, this is awkward. But pre-<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/10/xblas-summer-of-arcade-lineup-reshuffled/">SoA shuffle</a>, this was to be the week of the turtles' return with </span><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/turtles-in-time">TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-shelled</a>.</em> The bad thing is that we completely forgot to cancel the order for our turtle-celebrating supplies, and the FedEx guy just arrived.<br /><br />So, if you happen to spy us playing <em>'Splosion Man</em> while we rock out to our mint condition <em>Coming Out of Their Shells Tour </em>cassette and eat the TMNT Pudding Pies recently discovered in a New Mexico warehouse, try not to judge, OK?<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/splosion-man/">'Splosion Man</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/splosion-man/#1536849"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/splosion-man---screen-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/splosion-man/#1536850"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/splosion-man---screen-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/splosion-man/#1536851"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/splosion-man---screen-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/splosion-man/#1468646"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/sman1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/splosion-man/#1468647"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/sman4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/20/this-wednesday-splosion-man-blowing-up-xbla/">This Wednesday: 'Splosion Man blowing up XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Jul 2009 13:15:00 EST. We're happy to experience Twisted Pixel's self-destructive efforts sooner, if only to ease us gently into a rather extravagant spending spree.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/10/xblas-summer-of-arcade-lineup-reshuffled/">XBLA's 'Summer of Arcade' lineup reshuffled</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Jul 2009 15:15:00 EST. Microsoft's <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/07/09/2nd-annual-summer-of-arcade-kicks-off-july-22nd.aspx">Major Nelson</a> has revealed the full details of this year's "Summer of Arcade" ... and it's going to be mighty expensive if you're interested in the whole kaboodle.<br />

The only difference from this list and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/summer-of-arcade-returns-includes-marvel-vs-capcom-2-tmnt-mo/">previously announced lineup</a> is the absence of <em>Monkey Island Special Edition</em>, which is scheduled for release next week on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/06/discover-the-secret-of-monkey-island-again-on-july-15/">July 15</a>.<br />

E3 was <em>br&uuml;tal!</em> If you blinked, for a <span style="font-style: italic;">split/second,</span> you missed something. Even if you were <span style="font-style: italic;">trine</span> to keep up, it was a <span style="font-style: italic;">blur</span> -- staying <span style="font-style: italic;">a.wake</span> like that, you only pushed yourself to the <span style="font-style: italic;">brink</span> of your own <span style="font-style: italic;">dark void</span>. That's where Joystiq comes in; to <span style="font-style: italic;">crackdown</span> on the madness; to <span style="font-style: italic;">reach</span> out ... with <em>conviction</em> -- phew! <span style="font-style: italic;">Crysis</span> averted.<br />
<br />
We've scoured the <span style="font-style: italic;">dark corners</span> and survived the <span style="font-style: italic;">inferno</span> to piece together this roundup of all things Xbox at E3. Why? <span style="font-style: italic;">Just 'cause</span> we love you. So, draw <span style="font-style: italic;">nier</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">shift</span> your eyes past the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/12/e3-2009-highlights-the-xbox-roundup/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E3 2009 highlights: The Xbox roundup</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/12/e3-2009-highlights-the-xbox-roundup/">E3 2009 highlights: The Xbox roundup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Jun 2009 11:45:00 EST. The "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/summer-of-arcade">Summer of Arcade</a>" returns this year to bring you more of the XBLA games that'll keep you out of that nasty cancer-causing sun. The titles slated are:<br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splosion-man"><em>'Splosion Man</em></a></li>
    <li><a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/tag/shadow-complex"><em>Shadow Complex</em></a></li>

    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/marvel-vs-capcom-2"><em>Marvel Vs. Capcom 2</em></a></li>
    <li><a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/tag/monkey-island"><em>Monkey Island Special Edition</em></a></li>
    <li><a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/tag/trials-hd"><em>Trials HD</em></a></li>
</ul>
Of course, you'd like to know when the festivities kick off. And we'd love to tell you, but there's currently "nothing to announce" about dates. While we enjoy a fresh batch of screenshots as much as the next gamer, the highlight is definitely the first gameplay trailer, which you can watch above. The charm that was so abundant in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-maw"><em>The Maw</em></a> appears to be fully intact in <em>'Splosion Man</em>, replete with goofy character designs and plenty of humor. We're really digging the look of the gameplay, particularly the explosion assisted wall jumping.<br /><br />Oh, and Twisted Pixel also announced that the game will include not only 50 single-player levels -- along with some "unconventional boss battles" -- but also <em>another</em> 50 levels just for the four-player co-op mode. That's a lot of 'sploding.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/05/lots-of-splodey-new-splosion-man-media/">Lots of 'splodey new 'Splosion Man media</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 May 2009 19:30:00 EST. <div align="left">Two days, two games starring heroes who explode, neither of them jokes. We caught <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/explodemon"><em>Explodemon!</em></a> but managed to miss <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-maw">The Maw</a> </em>creator Twisted Pixel's intentionally cheeky announcement of a game called <em>'Splosion Man </em>amid the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/april-fools-09">April Fools mess</a>. We surely didn't miss the follow-up confirmation that -- bizarre as it sounds -- the game is real.<br /><br />Planned for Xbox Live Arcade, the game is "a 2.5D action/platformer based around the simple concept of 'splosions and the ridiculousness that ensues," according to its developer. Born of an experiment conducted <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWXe4CKKf9o">too close to the sun</a>, the titular Man will run through levels destroying everything in his wake, including the scientists trying to capture him. They're reduced to "<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0716909/">chunks of ham and ribeyes</a>, the smell of their destruction terrifying, but also a little succulent."<br /><br />From the sound of things, the game will be heavily focused on racking up points based on destruction, but will also feature large-scale boss battles and story sequences integrated into gameplay. Twisted Pixel is planning four-player co-op (yes, there are three other 'splody guys) via local and Live play.
