SpongeBob SquigglePants, due this May, places the porous protagonist in what publisher THQ calls "nanogames" -- we're guessing they're something along the line of WarioWare's similarly monikered microgames.

Like its console counterpart due April 12, the title will rely on hand-drawn input, although the Wii's uDraw GameTablet version features "totally unique" gameplay. This one's obviously in 3D -- though we wonder if that extends all the way to the live-action story sequences hosted by Patchy the Pirate. That might just be too much.

Squigglepants! SpongeBob Squigglepants is nothing less than a WarioWare clone designed for the uDraw. Players race through a series of 100 "nanogames" including racing, searching for hidden objects, and, of course, drawing, all with the uDraw's pen acting like a DS stylus. The game is "hosted" by Patchy the Pirate, who appears in live-action segments.

If this sounds interesting enough for you to go into a store and say the word "Squigglepants" to a clerk out loud, you'll be able to pick it up April 12. According to THQ, the uDraw tablet is being launched worldwide in February and March, making Squigglepants a launch window title for other territories. In addition, THQ will release a 3DS version "later in the spring," allowing the Squigglepants to squiggle in three dimensions.

He may never be a Metacritic standout, but SpongeBob SquarePants has won the hearts of millions of little ones -- it doesn't matter what we think about his games. Having shipped 29 million copies of pure SpongeBob gold since 2002, THQ isn't about to let the money-maker off the hook. The publisher has renewed its partnership with Nickelodeon for multi-year rights to develop and release SpongeBob titles across major platforms and distribution channels.

The first game under the new agreement is being developed for 3DS, Kinect and THQ's own uDraw GameTablet for Wii. It will be released next year, and you'll probably have to buy it (and one of those new technologies) if you've got a kid between ages 2 and 11.

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? EVERYONE.

MTV Asia and GigaMedia are co-developing and publishing an MMO based on cultural icon SpongeBob SquarePants. The massively multiplayer oceanic online game launches in 2011 for the markets of China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Southeast Asia and India. It is the first Viacom (MTV's parent company) MMO to be developed outside the US.

The free-to-play title will naturally have an online store for virtual citizens of Bikini Bottom to purchase items ... like, bikini bottoms? More details on the game will be announced closer to launch. Meanwhile, we expect to see at least ten online petitions demanding this game to be brought to the rest of the world.

According to the analysts at Cowen and Company, several of THQ's key franchises - think WWE, SpongeBob SquarePants and Saints Row - are in a slump. GI.biz details the firm's findings and all signs point to the publisher posting a "substantial" loss this fiscal year.

The firm states that the 22% Q4 year-over-year decline of the WWE franchise, which it calls one of the last "bastions of strength" at the publisher, is of particular concern, while poor little SpongeBob saw a 19% decline over the prior year. Saints Row 2 also isn't doing too hot, with the firm expecting the gangsta-fied sandbox title to move just 900K units over the next year in the US. Though the original Saints Row performed better on a single console, 2006 also had a very different software landscape (read: Grand Theft Auto IV wasn't out yet). Let's see if this holiday season changes THQ's plans to focus on a few "core" titles yearly.

The PlayStation Network Video Delivery Service will be getting a big boost from a new partner: MTV Networks. While MTV Networks includes the well-known "music" channel, it also includes VH1, Nickelodeon, COMEDY CENTRAL, Spike, Logo, CMT, The N, TV Land and Atom. Some shows to be added to the PlayStation Store include MTV's The City, COMEDY CENTRAL's South Park, Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants and VH1's Rock of Love Bus with Bret Michaels.

Is Mercury Meltdown Revolution a part of your Wii collection? If not, it absolutely should be, for Ignition's addictive puzzler must be one of the most criminally overlooked gems on the platform. And now Costco has it for $10.99, along with a bunch of other titles that range from pretty damn good to shovelware (oh, hai Pool Party). Angelina Jolie favorite Ghost Squad is also on sale, giving you a chance to knock terrorists from their speeding, swan-shaped jet skis, and save money in the process. If a better offer has come along this century, we've yet to see it.

It's a credit to the original Drawn to Life's concept and quality that we're still interested in the follow-up despite 5th Cell's absence and its attached license -- SpongeBob SquarePants.

IGN previewed the customizable platformer, and while it doesn't revolutionize the draw-your-adventure formula, it's a "polished, Nickelodeon-ized" take on it. We've never played any games from Alton, the developer taking the reins from 5th Cell, so we'll have to try Drawn to Life: SpongeBob SquarePants Edition ourselves before developing an opinion with any firmness to it.

Word has it, a two-player versus mode will be included, so look forward to pitting grotesquely phallic avatars against crude renditions of cartoon characters -- Donatello, Heathcliff, skies the limit!

Did we not warn you that this would happen? Did we not explicitly state that our mechanical slaves would one day rise and turn their iron claws against us? Well, that day of retribution has finally come -- humanity has been living on borrowed time, and the robots have come collect.

Developed by Russian New Jersey studio Vogster, Robocalypse -- or Kaboom Kaboom, as it was previously known by -- is an RTS armed with a humorous script penned by Spongebob Squarepants writers Jay Lender and Micah Wright. According to the plot details released so far, automatons have been accidentally programmed with military routines (Why do people keep doing this?!) and are now out to destroy the human race. Another batch of droids with implanted "brain scans of retired WWII vets" have been sent out to fight back the rebel robots and delay our inevitable extinction.

As every RTS on the DS should, Robocalypse will feature versus and cooperative modes for 2-4 players online when it ships out this spring. You can expect complete touchscreen control, 20+ unique weapons, 10+ distinct robot types, and "hero characters" with special powers like Conversion, the ability to turn enemies into refrigerators. Though we can't guarantee that "Underpants Slam!" will be any more enjoyable than the unexpected punch to the groin as suggested by the title, we can confidently inform you that it'll be available for download in North America from the Xbox Live Marketplace this coming Wednesday, December 26th.

THQ's "side-scrolling slap-happy extravaganza" absorbs players into SpongeBob's quest to collect King Neptune's 99 pieces of laundry, with garment hunting parties being comprised of up to four players over Xbox Live. If that sounds like F.U.N. to you, prepare to get slammed in the pants for 800 MS Points ($10).

Underpants media alert! Underpants media alert! SpongeBob Squarepants Underpants Slam! (or what we call around here SBSPUPS) will be releasing next Wednesday, December 26th exclusively to the Xbox Live Arcade. SBSPUPS will feature your standard single player campaign filled with SpongeBob characters, some time attack modes and also online Xbox Live "tag" in Bikini Bottom all for 800 Microsoft points. Yeah, the game is probably aimed at a younger demographic, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy a crappy game trial next Wednesday ... right? SBSPUPS FTW, TTFN!

Russian studio Vogster Entertainment hasn't yet formally announced Kaboom Kaboom, its comedy-filled RTS title set in "a world of wise-cracking robots," but what we've picked up about the game so far sounds spectacular!
  • Pick-up-and-play touchscreen controls
  • 25+ weapons
  • 20+ level story mode
  • 2-4 player versus and co-op modes (online play not announced)
  • Upgradeable robots with "distinct personalities and attitudes"
  • Hero characters with enhanced weaponry and skills
While we're not sure how far along Vogster is with Kaboom Kaboom's development -- no publisher has been revealed, and the artwork above is the only piece of media hitherto released -- we still have a while before the game's expected release next spring. For those wondering whether the Russian team's story and humor will translate well with American tastes, you'll be happy to hear that Vogster has been working with writers from the Spongebob Squarepants series to put together Kaboom Kaboom's script.
