Ever wonder how Stimpy would fare against Robinson Cano from the New York Yankees on the baseball field? <em>All the time</em>, right? 2K Play is giving you the chance to experience this ultimate matchup, while also seeing the athletic prowess of characters like Fanboy, Spongebob, Chum Chum and even Invader Zim.<br />
<br />
<em>Nicktoons MLB</em> for Kinect, Wii, and DS allows you to play baseball as a bunch of Nicktoons characters, as well as a roster of real, human Major League Baseball players from all 30 teams. High Voltage is developing the two console versions, and Black Lantern is working on the DS version, all due this summer.<br />
<br />
Nice to see all those characters from cancelled shows getting work!<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> Final, final update: you actually <em>can</em> play as both the Nicktoons characters and the MLB players. 2K Play cleared that up with us just now.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/02/nicktoons-mlb-seriously-combines-nicktoons-and-major-league-base/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nicktoons MLB seriously combines Nicktoons and Major League Baseball [update 1]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/02/nicktoons-mlb-seriously-combines-nicktoons-and-major-league-base/">Nicktoons MLB seriously combines Nicktoons and Major League Baseball [update 1]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 May 2011 21:30:00 EST. The most absorbent cartoon character ever (sorry, Towelie) is getting his own game for Nintendo 3DS. <em>SpongeBob SquigglePants</em>, due this May, places the porous protagonist in what publisher THQ calls "nanogames" -- we're guessing they're something along the line of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/warioware/"><em>WarioWare's</em></a> similarly monikered <em>microgames</em>.<br />
<br />
Like its console counterpart due April 12, the title will rely on hand-drawn input, although the Wii's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/17/thq-announces-udraw-game-tablet-for-wii/">uDraw GameTablet</a> version features "totally unique" gameplay. This one's obviously in 3D -- though we wonder if that extends all the way to the live-action story sequences hosted by Patchy the Pirate. That might just be <em>too much</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/24/spongebob-squigglepants-migrates-to-3ds-this-may/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SpongeBob SquigglePants migrates to 3DS this May</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/24/spongebob-squigglepants-migrates-to-3ds-this-may/">SpongeBob SquigglePants migrates to 3DS this May</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 Mar 2011 09:00:00 EST. THQ has chosen to follow up on the success of its first <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/udraw">uDraw</a> Game Tablet releases with ... Squigglepants! <em>SpongeBob Squigglepants</em> is nothing less than a <em>WarioWare</em> clone designed for the uDraw. Players race through a series of 100 "nanogames" including racing, searching for hidden objects, and, of course, drawing, all with the uDraw's pen acting like a DS stylus. The game is "hosted" by Patchy the Pirate, who appears in live-action segments.<br />
<br />
If this sounds interesting enough for you to go into a store and say the word "Squigglepants" to a clerk out loud, you'll be able to pick it up April 12. According to THQ, the uDraw tablet is being launched worldwide in February and March, making Squigglepants a launch window title for other territories. In addition, THQ will release a 3DS version "later in the spring," allowing the Squigglepants to squiggle in three dimensions.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spongebob-squigglepants-wii-3ds/">Spongebob Squigglepants (Wii/3DS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spongebob-squigglepants-wii-3ds/#3890057"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/02/spongebob21601_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spongebob-squigglepants-wii-3ds/#3890058"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/02/spongebob21602_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spongebob-squigglepants-wii-3ds/#3890059"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/02/spongebob21603_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spongebob-squigglepants-wii-3ds/#3890060"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/02/spongebob21604_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spongebob-squigglepants-wii-3ds/#3890062"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/02/spongebob21605_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/16/spongebob-squigglepants/">THQ tries WarioWare formula, comes out with 'Spongebob Squigglepants'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Feb 2011 17:40:00 EST. He may <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/search/game/spongebob/results">never</a> be a Metacritic standout, but SpongeBob SquarePants has won the hearts of millions of little ones -- it doesn't matter what <em>we</em> think about his games. Having shipped 29 million copies of pure <em>SpongeBob</em> gold since 2002, THQ isn't about to let the money-maker off the hook. The publisher has renewed its partnership with Nickelodeon for multi-year rights to develop and release <em>SpongeBob</em> titles across major platforms and distribution channels.<br />
<br />
The first game under the new agreement is being developed for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/3ds/">3DS</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kinect|project-natal">Kinect</a> and THQ's own <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/udraw/">uDraw GameTablet</a> for Wii. It will be released next year, and you'll probably have to buy it (and one of those new technologies) if you've got a kid between ages 2 and 11.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/18/thq-soaks-up-multi-year-spongebob-rights-includes-3ds-game/">THQ soaks up multi-year SpongeBob rights, includes 3DS game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Oct 2010 11:45:00 EST. Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? <em>EVERYONE</em>.<br />
<br />
MTV Asia and GigaMedia are co-developing and publishing an MMO based on cultural icon <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/spongebob-squarepants">SpongeBob SquarePants</a>. The massively multiplayer oceanic online game launches in 2011 for the markets of China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Southeast Asia and India. It is the first Viacom (MTV's parent company) MMO to be developed outside the US.<br />
<br />
The free-to-play title will naturally have an online store for virtual citizens of Bikini Bottom to purchase items ... like, bikini bottoms? More details on the game will be announced closer to launch. Meanwhile, we expect to see at least ten online petitions demanding this game to be brought to the rest of the world.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/09/spongebob-squarepants-mmo/">SpongeBob. It appears <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-wiikly">Rock Band Wiikly</a> is getting comfortable with its one week delay of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-weekly">Rock Band Weekly</a> DLC, with this week seeing a rather eclectic collection of additions to the Wii's music store. <br />
<br />
Individual songs (200 Wii points apiece):
<ul>
    <li>"Don't Stop Believing" - Journey</li>
    <li>"Heartbreaker" - Pat Benatar</li>
    <li>"Geraldine" - Glasvegas</li>
    <li>"C'Mon C'Mon" - The Von Bondies</li>
    <li>"I Can't Keep My Eyes Off of You" - Spongebob Squarepants</li>
    <li>"The Best Day Ever" - Spongebob Squarepants</li>
    <li>"Where's Gary?" - Spongebob Squarepants</li>
    <li>"Rock 'n' Roll Star" - Oasis</li>
    <li>"DOA" - Foo Fighters</li>
    <li>"This is a Call" - Foo Fighters</li>
    <li>"Times Like These" - Foo Fighters</li>
</ul>

<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band"><em>Rock Band</em></a> has taken fake band-ing to a wondrous new level, with everyone's favorite karaoke song, "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/25/gdc09-rock-band-2-makes-sure-journey-wont-stop-believin/">Don't Stop Believing"</a>, becoming available to download. Also, that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/25/gdc09-rumor-pat-benatar-coming-to-rock-ba/">Pat Benatar rumor</a> panned out, as her classic track, "Heartbreaker," is also in the <em>Rock Band</em> store. According to the analysts at Cowen and Company, several of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/thq">THQ</a>'s key franchises - think WWE, SpongeBob SquarePants and <em>Saints Row</em> - are in a slump. <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/thq-franchises-in-decline-saints-row-2-sales-below-expectations">GI.biz</a> details the firm's findings and all signs point to the publisher posting a "substantial" loss this fiscal year.<br /><br />The firm states that the 22% Q4 year-over-year decline of the WWE franchise, which it calls one of the last "bastions of strength" at the publisher, is of particular concern, while poor little SpongeBob saw a 19% decline over the prior year. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/saints-row-2">Saints Row 2 </a></em>also isn't doing too hot, with the firm expecting the gangsta-fied sandbox title to move just 900K units over the next year in the US. Though the original <em>Saints Row</em> performed better on a single console, 2006 also had a very different software landscape (read: <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> wasn't out yet). Let's see if this holiday season changes THQ's plans to focus on a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/13/thqs-new-strategy-is-to-make-a-couple-core-titles-yearly/">few "core" titles</a> yearly.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/22/analyst-report-thq-franchises-in-decline/">Analyst report: THQ franchises in decline</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Jan 2009 14:45:00 EST. We were oblivious to that fact until about twenty minutes ago when a pink jellyfish knocked on our door and told us the news. No joke either, jellyfish really do talk if you're willing to listen. So, with it being a SpongeBob Live Weekend, we're encouraged to download a the free episode <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/marketplace/media/4c27390e-eb6e-499a-976c-40fc3ed7437d/">"Blackened Sponge / Mermaid Man vs. SpongeBob"</a> off the XBVM, purchase other episodes, try the trial of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/26/spongebob-underpants-slam-slams-xbla/"><em>SpongeBob SquarePants Underpants Slam!</em></a>, purchase new spongy gamer pictures / themes and give the retail <em>SpongeBob </em>games a whirl. And now Costco has it for <span style="font-style: italic;">$10.99</span>, along with a bunch of other titles that range from pretty damn good to shovelware (oh, hai <span style="font-style: italic;">Pool Party</span>). <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/16/angelina-jolie-buys-ghost-squad-promotes-violence/">Angelina Jolie favorite</a> <span style="font-style: italic;">Ghost Squad</span> is also on sale, giving you a chance to knock terrorists from their speeding, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/10/ghost-squad-stands-out-from-the-crowd/">swan-shaped jet skis</a>, <span style="font-style: italic;">and</span> save money in the process. <br />Did we not <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/06/01/ds-robot-frightens-ds-fanboy-staff/">warn</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/12/contra-4-packed-with-extras-shirtless-robots/">you</a> that this would happen? Did we not <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/12/your-very-own-robods/">explicitly state</a></em> that our mechanical slaves would one day rise and turn their iron claws against us? Well, that day of retribution has finally come -- humanity has been living on borrowed time, and the robots have come collect. <br /><br />Developed by <strike>Russian</strike> New Jersey studio Vogster, <em>Robocalypse</em> -- or <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/14/kaboom-kaboom-russians-robots-and-real-time-strategy/">Kaboom Kaboom</a></em>, as it was previously known by -- is an RTS armed with a humorous script penned by <em>Spongebob Squarepants</em> writers Jay Lender and Micah Wright. According to the plot details released so far, automatons have been accidentally programmed with military routines (Why do people keep doing this?!) and are now out to destroy the human race. Another batch of droids with implanted "brain scans of retired WWII vets" have been sent out to fight back the rebel robots and delay our inevitable extinction.<br /><br />As every <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/RTS/">RTS</a> on the DS should, <em>Robocalypse</em> will feature versus and cooperative modes for 2-4 players online when it ships out this spring. You can expect complete touchscreen control, 20+ unique weapons, 10+ distinct robot types, and "hero characters" with special powers like Conversion, the ability to turn enemies into refrigerators. The aquatic antics of our obliviously cheerful pal, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/24/thq-brings-spongebob-and-three-others-to-xbla/">SpongeBob SquarePants</a>, have once again been transformed into a video game, this time for Xbox Live Arcade. Though we can't guarantee that "<a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/s/spongebobsquarepantsunderpantsslamxboxlivearcade/">Underpants Slam!</a>" will be any more enjoyable than the unexpected punch to the groin as suggested by the title, we can confidently inform you that it'll be available for download in North America from the Xbox Live Marketplace this coming Wednesday, December 26th. <br /><br />THQ's "side-scrolling slap-happy extravaganza" absorbs players into SpongeBob's quest to collect King Neptune's 99 pieces of laundry, with garment hunting parties being comprised of up to four players over Xbox Live. If that sounds like <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=NfEfM-MnTGc">F.U.N.</a> to you, prepare to get slammed in the pants for 800 MS Points ($10).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/21/this-wednesday-spongebob-gives-xbla-underpants-slam/">This Wednesday: SpongeBob gives XBLA 'Underpants Slam!'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Dec 2007 13:10:00 EST. <br />Russian studio Vogster Entertainment hasn't yet formally announced <em>Kaboom Kaboom</em>, its comedy-filled <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/RTS/">RTS</a> title set in "a world of wise-cracking <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/robot">robots</a>," but what we've picked up about the game so far sounds spectacular!<br />
<ul>
    <li>Pick-up-and-play touchscreen controls</li>
    <li>25+ weapons</li>
    <li>20+ level story mode</li>
    <li>2-4 player versus and co-op modes (online play not announced)<br /></li>
    <li>Upgradeable robots with "distinct personalities and attitudes"</li>
    <li>Hero characters with enhanced weaponry and skills</li>
</ul>
While we're not sure how far along Vogster is with <em>Kaboom Kaboom's</em> development -- no publisher has been revealed, and the artwork above is the only piece of media hitherto released -- we still have a while before the game's expected release next spring. For those wondering whether the Russian team's story and humor will translate well with American tastes, you'll be happy to hear that Vogster has been working with writers from the <em>Spongebob Squarepants</em> series to put together <em>Kaboom Kaboom's</em> script. <br /><br />[Via <em>Nintendo Power</em>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/14/kaboom-kaboom-russians-robots-and-real-time-strategy/">Kaboom Kaboom: Russians, robots, and real-time strategy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Dec 2007 12:00:00 EST.
