The Basketball Challenge Pack includes three new game modes for basketball, a brand new sport for the title: 3-Point Hero, Shot Party and Alley-Oop Dreams.

3-Point hero appears to be a quickshot game, Shot Party involves precision aiming and Alley-Oop is all about those mad assist skills. I could never play in the NBA. Even if you forgive the fact that I'm significantly shorter than 7'2", and possess a jumpshot that's eerily similar to watching a pillowcase full of Jell-O get dropped from a roof in slow motion, there's no hope for me. Luckily, I can realize that dream through video games, and few titles allow me to do so with more simulated perfection than NBA 2K12.
In addition to baseball and hockey, PS3 owners now have the opportunity to catch football games, streamed live through their console. The PlayStation Blog today announced a partnership with DirecTV to offer the satellite television provider's popular NFL Sunday Ticket service, which allows individuals to view out-of-market football games.

Existing DirecTV subscribers can access Sunday Ticket on the console for an additional $50 at the start of the season (on top of what they paid for Sunday Ticket, of course) and can use their console as an additional receiver. PS3 users looking to opt into NFL Sunday Ticket without a DirecTV subscription will have to shell out a hefty $339.95. The PS3 will both show games in HD each week (up to 14) and display DirecTV's Red Zone channel. Or you could just sign up for DirecTV and get NFL Sunday Ticket for free, but then you'd have a bulky satellite dish to deal with.

Based on comments made to Shacknews by DirecTV's director of public relations Robert Mercer, NFL Sunday Ticket will "at least for this season" be exclusive to PS3. "We just want to work with a single partner this time around to give everyone a great experience," he concluded.
EA's Gamescom 2011 keynote has already brought about one intriguing bit of news about the revival of its more palatable, outrageous sports franchises: FIFA Street. Coming to PS3 and 360 early next year, the EA Canada-developed title will bring back the rough-and-tumble action of the original series, with the depth of the later installments in FIFA Prime. In fact, it might possess more depth -- according to EA, it will feature "twice as many moves as FIFA 12."

The game will also feature the suite of EA Football Club features first announced at E3 this year, among other, unspecified social networking features. EA Sports Season Ticket holders will also get early (temporary) access to the full game, should they choose to accept it. Keep an eye out for the game's debut trailer in the coming hours.
FIFA Street reboot in development at EA Canada, coming early next year originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 16 Aug 2011 10:16:00 EST. A screaming man and two dudes who look -- well, they look just like we'd imagine two guys standing next to a screaming man would look: uncomfortable. Then again, they're probably not surprised, as the loudmouth on the cover of FIFA Soccer 12 is just the latest in a string of scream-centric pieces of EA Sports cover art.

If you're not a big <strike>soccer</strike> Football aficionado, from left to right you've got Wayne Rooney from Manchester United, Landon Donovan of the LA Galaxy and Rafael Márquez of the New York Red Bulls. They all are, we understand, very good at the sports. FIFA Soccer 12 launches on the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PSP and PC on September 27 in North America and on September 30 worldwide.
FIFA 12 cover athletes revealed, screaming tradition continues originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 10 Aug 2011 23:30:00 EST. Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird aren't the only classic ballers hitting the virtual hardwood in NBA 2K12 on October 4. 2K Games has confirmed that Julius Erving (Dr. J) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will also be in the game. Personally, we've got our fingers crossed for a mini-game where you get to fight Abdul-Jabbar, Game of Death style.*

These Hall of Famers will be playable in a new "NBA's Greatest" mode, where players can relive basketball's classic moments using 15 NBA teams of years past. These teams and players can also be unlocked for use against current franchises.

Drive the lane into our gallery below to check out some screens of these guys in-game.
The ESPN application on Xbox Live offered some interesting functionality to sports fans, though perhaps not enough to make it a viable competitor for their standard cable fare. ESPN 2.0, a massive renovation of the platform scheduled to launch August 25 (just in time for college football), will be a much more worthy contender.

Gizmodo recently previewed the updated software, revealing a number of its new, tantalizing features, such as the ability to watch two games on ESPN 3 at once, and a live score feed on the side of the UI.

The highlight feature is the new Guide, a carousel of thumbnails showing currently streaming programs, each of which include stats, scores and information about each game. Check out a video demonstration of the software on Gizmodo, and join us in wishing for a future where every sport is simulcast conveniently on our gaming consoles. The Player Impact Engine is a new feature for FIFA 12 -- in layman's terms, it's the thing that handles dude collisions. According to this latest trailer, FIFA 12 is going to make sure dudes falling down on their faces looks more realistic than it ever has before.
Continue reading FIFA 12 trailer shows a slice of PIE

FIFA 12 trailer shows a slice of PIE originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 31 May 2011 00:15:00 EST. Tecmo Bowl Throwback, last year's retro-revival for PSN and XBLA, has been ported to iOS and was released today. iTunes lists the features of the $7.99 port as largely similar to the console game: 30 teams in all, two of which are All-Star squads with customizable rosters, plus Preseason, Season and All-Star game modes. The first two are standard football fare; All-Star mode allows players to pit the game's two All-Star teams against each other.

Early iTunes reviews suggest issues with older hardware, so it's probably something to keep in mind if you're looking to tap your way into the end zone. Also, it seems that the iOS port has no online multiplayer -- that's a fumble.
Continue reading Tecmo Bowl Throwback dives over the pile onto iOS

Tecmo Bowl Throwback dives over the pile onto iOS originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 27 May 2011 03:00:00 EST. NaturalMotion officially unveiled what it was teasing earlier this week, and ... it's kind of confusing. Backbreaker: Vengeance uses the same subtitle as the company's recent iOS football game, but it is not the same game.

The new Backbreaker: Vengeance (who are these football players seeking vengeance against?) is an XBLA-exclusive, arcade-style game that "takes inspiration" from the first Backbreaker's "Tackle Alley" mode. That means one runner attempting to cross the field against various arrangements of pre-placed defenders.

Check out a trailer after the break -- especially if you're fond of body-crunching sounds. Actually, that advice also works in regards to buying the game this summer.
Continue reading Backbreaker: Vengeance tackles XBLA this summer

Backbreaker: Vengeance tackles XBLA this summer originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 14 Apr 2011 11:25:00 EST. The official forum for NaturalMotion's Backbreaker football series was updated with the above image of three players from three different teams navigating a field of tackle dummies.

It could be a console sequel to Backbreaker, either original or adapted from the iOS Backbreaker 2: Vengeance (which makes sense given the tagline on the image), but the forumites all arrived pretty quickly at the idea that it could be an Xbox Live Arcade/PSN title based on the "Tackle Alley" mode, which tasks players with getting past a line of defenders.

When NaturalMotion is ready to tackle an official announcement, it said, it'll do so on the Backbreaker Facebook page.
NaturalMotion teases new Backbreaker game originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 12 Apr 2011 22:30:00 EST. EA Sports is working on a follow-up to last year's reboot of NBA Jam, but this one's going download-only. NBA Jam: On Fire Edition is set to take the court in October for both PS3 and Xbox Live (no Wii release announced) and will arrive via PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, respectively. It's worth noting that last year's game was a full $50 retail release, but a stripped-down version was originally planned as a downloadable title free to those who purchased new copies of the ill-fated NBA Elite 11.

On Fire Edition will benefit from new opponent AI (adapted from the Fight Night titles), revamped visuals and a host of new online features including an online co-op "Road Trip" campaign mode and roster updates. The new AI is promising competition that "learns your tendencies and throws them back in your face."

Y'know, kind of like having the fact that you paid 50 bucks for the last game, when this one will probably run $15-20, thrown back in your face. We realize The Onion, purveyors of funnies, is joking with this video segment past the break that details a new head-and-neck peripheral for Madden NFL 12, but we think there's actually potential here. Think about the people who play Madden: people who like football; people who play professional sports; and people who wish they still played professional sports.

That last group has got memories to relive and the cash to make it happen. They've also got skulls thick enough to not die when the pistons in the helmet fire.
Continue reading Onion: Madden NFL 12 to let players feel tackles, go deaf from crowd noise

Onion: Madden NFL 12 to let players feel tackles, go deaf from crowd noise originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 25 Feb 2011 07:00:00 EST. If you're a Time Warner or Brighthouse network cable subscriber, the new ESPN streaming functionality that came with the November Dashboard update was kinda lost on you in that you couldn't find it ... ever. Hope is coming though -- Brighthouse (which is owned by Time Warner) says Xbox 360 functionality is coming to its customers next year while this page on ESPN's site assures those patiently waiting that they'll be able to stream ESPN through their Xbox 360 soon.

The way it will work is when a Time Warner or Brighthouse user turns on their Xbox 360 and tries to access the ESPN app (right now, you should get this screen), it'll direct them to this ESPN activation page where they will have to authenticate their account with Brighthouse or Time Warner, then be given an access code. Previously, ESPN3.com content wasn't available to Time Warner and Brighthouse subscribers, though a new deal inked back in September changed that.

So where does that leave us? Pretty much at the same spot, actually -- though at least now it seems there's a light at the end of the tunnel and it's illuminating sports stuff.

Over the course of the next month, a variety of college Bowl games will pit the year's noteworthy teams against each other. ESPN is adjusting its services to accommodate these matches and now offers an update to its Xbox Live portal.

The most substantial addition in this update is the College Bowl Showdown meta-game, where you'll predict the winners of each Bowl game and earn a score based on your accuracy. Scores can be compared with your friends list, and there's a new sorting option to view highlights in one continuous video, rather than flipping through miscellaneous segments. (Content is streamed based on the types of sports you've added under the "My Sports" tab.)

Microsoft is also a promotion contest alongside the update -- you can learn more on the Xbox website.
ESPN on Xbox Live updated for the 'College Bowl Showdown' originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 16 Dec 2010 09:00:00 EST. Launching in March alongside the beginning of the baseball season, in the US, Canada, Japan, and South Korea. MLB Manager allows players to create teams from over 900 (not over 9000) real Major Leaguers, check their stats, and trade them with other managers. It's a different kind of sports game, one in which you handle all the "telling people to play baseball" and leave the "playing baseball" bit to the experts.

Prospective managers have the chance to build their teams in advance of the March release. Sega is holding a limited closed beta starting January 7, 2011. If you're interested in checking out the browser-based management sim early, you can sign up here.

Gallery: MLB Manager Online (PC)

Continue reading Play ball by proxy in MLB Manager Online

Play ball by proxy in MLB Manager Online originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 15 Dec 2010 07:00:00 EST. There's a popular story that goes something like this: A boy asks a punk singer, "How can I be punk?" The singer looks at the boy, bites on his cigarette and kicks over a trashcan, grumbling, "That's punk."

"So if I kick over a trashcan, then I'll be a punk?" asks the boy. "No," says the singer. "You'll be a follower."

Despite its best efforts to capture punk skateboard culture, Shaun White Skateboarding gets hung up on kicking over familiar trash cans and somehow feels more derivative than its straightforward snowboarding predecessor.
Yeah, bro -- it's totally called "Fan Axxess."

Spend 800 MS Points ($9.99) on Xbox 360 or PS3 and you'll be placed in the Fan Axxess program, a system that "will enable WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011 owners to obtain select downloadable content released throughout the life of the videogame." This "select content" will include "a number of playable WWE Legends, WWE Superstars and WWE Divas, alternate ring gear, playable arenas, a WWE Superstar Attribute Customizer, instant access to all unlockable content and an in-game badge," identifying you as Fan Axxess member.

If you're not interested in purchasing a label or its accompanied liberal use of the letter X, you can purchase each DLC pack individually. THQ has lined up the first few, so head past the break for the details.
Continue reading WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 getting 'Fan Axxess' DLC delivery program

WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 getting 'Fan Axxess' DLC delivery program originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 13 Oct 2010 09:31:00 EST. Last Saturday, the Chicago Fire played a fairly disheartening game against the Seattle Sounders at home, though the proceedings were brightened significantly by a delightful, Mario-themed tifo display. We're not sure what Mario has to do with the two clubs, but -- oh, wait! Fireballs! Of course.
Continue reading Mario-themed tifo display heats up Chicago Fire soccer game

Mario-themed tifo display heats up Chicago Fire soccer game originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 28 Sep 2010 22:30:00 EST. The fact that PS3's Planet Minigolf is getting PlayStation Move support has been known for a while -- now we know the game will be patched for precision putting on September 19, just after Sony's newest peripheral launches. Keep reading for a video of the Move-enabled game in motion.
Continue reading Planet Minigolf gets patched for PlayStation Move on Sept. 19

Planet Minigolf gets patched for PlayStation Move on Sept. 19 originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 26 Aug 2010 01:00:00 EST. 2K Sports has announced that, tomorrow, puck enthusiasts on the go will be able to access a version of NHL 2K11 optimized for iOS devices -- the first officially-licensed hockey game to lace up its skates on the iPhone and iPod Touch, actually. Sadly, 2K Sports has not furnished us with any media for the new game, but has revealed that it can be yours for $1.99 during its first week of availability.

The company also promises the scaled-down skate-'em-up will sport "a new control system designed from the ground up; animations and graphics taken from the console version of the game; and fully realized season, shootout and free skate modes of play." You can find it on the App Store starting tomorrow.
NHL 2K11 passes the puck to iPhone and iPod Touch originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 23 Aug 2010 23:00:00 EST. Did you know that a football player's vocation requires them to hurtle their head at other football players' heads with little regard for the safety of either? Did you know that this type of reckless cranial colliding can cause concussions and other serious, long-term head injuries? It's true -- but according to the Washington Post, athletic trainers at the University of Maryland and Ohio State University have found a tool to help diagnose and monitor players' dome-piece health: Wii Fit.

Trainers at the two universities now require players to use the Wii Balance Board to get a baseline reading of their -- what else? -- balance. When a player suffers a fairly nasty blow to the head region, they can take another Wii Fit test to see if their balance has deteriorated -- one of the telltale signs of a concussion. Man, combine this test with the Vitality Sensor, and the Wii will become a one-stop-shop for sports-related injury diagnoses!
Wii Fit used to diagnose football-related concussions originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 21 Aug 2010 08:00:00 EST. NBA 2K11 has everything to lose this year. As the top-selling basketball title of last year, and with EA rebuilding and re-branding its own basketball experience as NBA Elite 11, you might think 2K Games could probably coast for the next few years, sit back and count the dough. But if there's one phrase I've heard plenty of times from 2K reps during my visit, it's "The Pepsi Challenge."

2K is putting its money where its mouth is, investing in real improvements to its yearly franchise. The first (and perhaps most important to longtime fans) is the online play. Right away I threw the question at them (it's a hot topic in the community and something I bring up every time I talk to these guys -- we've gotta be sure!): "Are you going to fix the online experience this year?" I was told it was a big focus for 2K -- the other, obviously, being Michael Jordan.
Sports is the ultimate common ground for the common man. From the salt-of-the-earth mechanic to the high-powered Wall Street exec, sports has always broken social barriers and given all (well, most) of us something to relate to each other with. Sports games, on the other hand: not so much.

As technology improved, the pursuit's become "realism." In the place of arcade-style fun is simulation, and sports games have become a kind of secret fraternity that often don't welcome newcomers with open arms. You need years of experience or worse, a degree in sportgameology to enjoy them. On the surface, Madden NFL 11 doesn't appear to buck that trend, but key design decisions help it shake off some of the inaccessibility of Maddens past.
While our Madden NFL 11 review needs another day in the oven before it's just right, I wanted to share my experiences from an early access event EA held last month. For starters: I'm a huge NFL fan. On Sundays, I obsess over my fantasy football team, wear a jersey, microwave nachos and watch guys wearing pads smash into each other for eleven straight hours. Don't ask me to go shopping or meet up for brunch, because any and all such requests will be met with a resounding no and a flag on the play. All games will be watched, stats analyzed and a decently sized butt print will be left in the sofa.

That said, I'm not a smart Madden player. On third and short, I'll throw the ball almost every time, and on fourth and long, I'll go for it like Patriots coach Bill Belichick, meaning: I'll fail miserably. That probably explains why I lose 44 to 14, but hey, I don't have a high football IQ. Throw a playbook in front of me and I'll know which says to pass and which to run, but the intricacies are lost on me.

Gallery: Madden NFL 11 (7.16.2010)

Continue reading Preview: Madden NFL 11 GameFlow makes calling plays a snap

Preview: Madden NFL 11 GameFlow makes calling plays a snap originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 09 Aug 2010 16:48:00 EST. The publisher announced a PSP version of UFC Undisputed 2010, entering the retail Octagon on September 7. Perhaps what the game needed to hit sales targets was another version.

The portable UFC includes "an unparalleled roster" of over 100 fighters, as well as the option to create your own, with customizable movesets. The PSP release also includes support for Ad-Hoc mode for local multiplayer fightin'. This will cause much less property damage than meeting your friends at Starbucks for a couple of real mixed martial arts matches.
505 Games has announced a new update for its Euphoria-powered footballer, Backbreaker. Dubbed "Greathouse," this new update -- which should be available sometime in "early August" -- adds a host of features the community have apparently clamored for, such as an "improved Quarterback camera view and passing game" and 100 new plays, including nine new formations to use. Greathouse also tweaks gameplay on the other side of the ball, introducing a new "user catch system" and "full control" over interceptions.

For the full patch notes, head past the break.

Update: We mislabeled the launch window for the "Greathouse" update as "next month," when in fact we meant to say "early August." In addition to the God of War: Ghost of Sparta Entertainment Pack, Sony has announced a bundle that includes Madden 11. If you still need a PSP before you're ready for some football, this is for you!

The Madden bundle doesn't come with a PSP in a unique color scheme -- it simply includes the Piano Black PSP-3000. But what it does come with is an effectively free copy of Madden. The whole bundle sells for $170, the same price as the PSP alone. (You don't have to be one of football's best coaches to recognize the appeal of that strategy.) The bundle will be available alongside standalone versions of Madden 11 next Tuesday, August 10.
Madden 11 PSP bundle touches down August 10 for $170 originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 02 Aug 2010 14:20:00 EST. A new trailer posted by MTV Multiplayer unveils six NBA stars who will return in big-headed glory: Clyde Drexler, Kevin MacHale, Dennis Rodman, Hakeem Olajuwan, Detlef Schrempf, and James Worthy. They'll join the previously confirmed Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. See the trailer after the break.

An ESPN interview with creative director Trey Smith provides some additional info about the nature of the game's "boss fights" -- one-on-one matches with these legendary players. For example, Magic Johnson can now perform, well, magic, teleporting around the court. "You think he's cheating, but that's a boss battle," Smith said. Players will have to watch for patterns, "And then, it's all about executing."
Continue reading More legendary players revealed in NBA Jam

More legendary players revealed in NBA Jam originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 01 Aug 2010 15:30:00 EST. Though EA continues to dance around a version of NBA Jam for consoles beyond Wii, the United States' ESRB is the latest ratings agency to announce the game for Xbox 360 and PS3. The German USK listed the cherished basketball game for high-def consoles earlier this month.

We're -- once again -- following up for official comment from EA. We know the ratings boards can't be the only ones looking for the game on more systems.

Update: The ESRB has pulled the rating -- still no word from EA.
Cutting through all of the hoopla, developer Streamline Studios has announced that its 3-on-3 arcade basketball game, Hoopworld, will finally be available for download this coming Monday, July 19. With a price tag of 1,000 Wii Points ($10), Hoopworld combines elements of NBA Jam and games like Power Stone. Even more surprising is that it was once destined for Xbox Live Arcade. Also: gamers have been waiting for, like, four years. That's a lot of time on the bench.

But this Monday, it'll finally release, albeit solely on the Wii. It's got kung-fu power-ups, seven different teams and six different courts, offering players a competitive basketball experience unseen since -- wait, since when? Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball on the SNES? EA has a lot riding on NBA Elite 11, the reboot of its once-great-but-gone-stale NBA Live series. Using its brand-new control scheme primarily utilizing the analog sticks, our time with the game was a breathe of fresh air -- and it would seem a few NBA players agree.

Past the break, you'll find a video of Stephen Curry, Brandon Jennings and cover star Kevin Durant sharing their feelings on the game. Overall, they seem to agree that the new control scheme feels natural. Oh, and just because it's an EA-created video, we don't think you should write off its content: Curry's tale of failed three-point shots speaks volumes about the new skill-based shooting.
Yesterday, it seemed like the only thing people could talk about on TV, the radio and Twitter was Lebron James. For the uninitiated, he's one of the greatest basketball stars playing today. Wrapping up a lengthy stay in Cleveland with the Cavaliers -- where he's been for the past seven years, since age 18 -- James had finally become a free agent, able to go wherever he wished. As we learned last night, he chose to join the Miami Heat.

With 2K Sports set to launch the latest iteration in its NBA 2K series, NBA 2K11, on October 5, we got in touch with Chris Snyder, director of marketing for the label, to get his thoughts on the situation. While he admitted that 2K Sports was "not at all" worried about the recent events surrounding James stealing the spotlight from Michael Jordan's signing as this year's cover star, he did admit that James and the teams affected by his decision haven't had their stats finalized in the game just yet.

"It's too early to tell, as the Heat have to fill out the rest of the roster," Snyder said. "The Heat definitely will be improved, and the Cavs will definitely take a hit, but we need to see where everyone else lands before we can determine who is the number one ranked team." (Sports experts currently predict a Celtics-Heat Eastern Conference showdown for the foreseeable future.)

Finally, 2K Sports offered us a lone screenshot (above, click to enlarge) which provides us with our first glimpse of James in a Heat uniform. We know it's painful to see, Cleveland -- but it's all a part of moving on.
Lebron James' move to the Miami Heat and how it'll affect NBA 2K11 originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 09 Jul 2010 20:45:00 EST. In the video overview after the break, NHL Slapshot producer Joe Nickolls introduces features of EA's Wii-exclusive hockey game, including the new "Peewee to Pro" mode that allows you to play as Wayne Gretzky from childhood through the NHL. Sales of Madden NFL 11 are set to kick off on August 10, and leading up to the title's launch, EA plans to release a series of videos highlighting the different divisions of the NFL. This week, we've got preview videos for the AFC East and AFC West, which you can find huddled up past the break.

The team to beat in the AFC East is undoubtedly The Jets, who fell just shy of the AFC Championship game last year -- but don't discount The Patriots, who've still got plenty of weapons at their disposal. In the AFC West, it's going to be a tough year. The Broncos, The Chiefs, The Raiders and The Chargers all have a shot at winning the division this year.

But, hey, don't take our word for it! Spin past the break and run down each team's skill set for yourself. Hut-hut-hike!
Continue reading Madden NFL 11 videos preview AFC East and AFC West

Madden NFL 11 videos preview AFC East and AFC West originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 03 Jul 2010 05:00:00 EST. We haven't seen Gretzky hit the virtual ice since Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey on the N64, so suffice it to say we're happy he's back in NHL Slapshot. If you have no idea who Gretzky is, then you've got impeccable timing. This latest trailer (available past the break) gives us a quick rundown of Gretzky's development throughout his life, from peewee puck-handler to mature mastermind of the ice rink.

In case you still don't get it: the guy's kind of a big deal in the ice hockey world. What else would you expect from somebody nicknamed "The Great One?"
Continue reading NHL Slapshot trailer takes The Great One from peewee to pro

NHL Slapshot trailer takes The Great One from peewee to pro originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 02 Jul 2010 08:00:00 EST. In that short session, I had a great time -- but I think my AI partner had a much better time than I did. That's not to say I didn't enjoy myself: in my admittedly brief experience with EA Canada's renewed version of the classic arcade basketball game, I found that pretty much everything about the game is scientifically designed to deliver maximum fun.
There's a lot riding on NBA 2K11. Not only did 2K Games secure Michael Jordan -- a huge get -- but with EA looking to revitalize its basketball game with NBA Elite 11, there's more pressure on the NBA2K franchise than ever before. Being the top-selling basketball game across all platforms last year doesn't mean that NBA 2K11 can secure Jordan and then "rest on its laurels and call it a day," a 2K rep told me.
