Super Street Fighter II XBLA beta begins today

The beta will give players the option of using only Ken or Ryu in various online modes or in local two-player matches. Remember, this is a beta, so the actual purpose of it is to stress-test the network code for the multiplayer modes of the game. The beta will run until around August 20 or whenever Capcom decides to pull the plug. Don't worry, you'll probably get bored of Ken and Ryu by then.
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix beta starts June 25
On June 25, owners of Commando 3 will gain entry to the SSFIITHDR portion of the menu, which will take them to an XBL blade where they can download the beta. Capcom reiterates that the beta is unfortunately only available on Xbox 360 and not PS3. The release of SSFIITHDRWTFGTFOBBQ simply can't come fast enough.

Go behind the scenes of Street Fighter animations
Have you ever wondered how an animation is born? ... No, you probably haven't. Don't feel bad, neither had we. But once we saw this interesting look at how Capcom is cleaning up movements for their Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, we felt like we gained a new appreciation for the intricacies of animation.Take, for example, the fact that some characters in Super Street Fighter II had motion blur while characters from Street Fighter II didn't? Isn't that fascinating? Hello? ... OK, so we admit this sort of "inside the sausage factory" stuff isn't for every one. But if you're a fan of the series, you'll want to take a look.
First Super Street Fighter II HD Remix video is underwhelming
Here's a thought: What about capturing from the actual game? Sure, it's a few more wires to plug in, but isn't it worth it? See, when the whole point of your game is that it looks purty, you probably want a video that makes it look ... you know ... purty. As far as what we can see in this clip ... well, it looks like Street Fighter.
Capcom dates some downloadable games in development
- Rocketmen: Axis of Evil -- Holiday '07 (XBLA 800 MS Points ($10), PSN $10)
- Commando 3 -- December '07 (XBLA 800 MS Points ($10), PSN $10)
- Talisman -- April '08
- Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix -- Q1 '08, but actually "when it's ready."
'Cammy' see more SSFIITHDR characters?

There really isn't much to say on this art except that if you could please stop staring at Cammy's crotch for five seconds and finish the story you'll notice that we've got this neat little link here to all our previous coverage. Still no word on a release date, but apparently the online development is coming along fine.

First SSF2THDR stage unveiled: Vegas, baby
Capcom has released the first glimpse of a turbo-high-def-remixed Super Street Fighter II stage,
Producer Rey Jimenez also fills us in on a new game mode, call it "re-balanced mode" for now. The optional mode is being designed with input from tourney players, but Jimenez doesn't elaborate further. Expect it to make the final version of the game as long as it doesn't "totally break" the gameplay.
Super SF II Turbo HD Remix achievement open call

Of course, hardcore Street Fighter II players looking forward to SSFIITHDR are making suggestions like getting five perfects in a row or having a five to eight chain combo. We're still looking to achieve basic things like Zangief's pile driver, or for those seeking an even more basic achievement – just pull off a shoryuken. Capcom says they'll take the suggestions on August 1st and start sifting through them, then they'll take the ones that are actually technologically possible and send it back out to the community for voting. Come on shoryuken achievement!

Chun Li cries the pain of loss away

Kinda stinks that the first image we see showing one of the strong ladies from SSFIITHDROMGSRSLY has to be one of her all abused. Show us Chun Li thigh, that's her strongest feature! All the guys we've seen were portrayed all macho in fighting poses. So far we've seen Ken and Akuma, then last week we saw Guile, with his controversial backwards American flag. One of the developers for the game says, "Guile's flags tattoos are not backwards. Well technically they are, but it depends on which way the character is facing. Because the old code flips the character art depending on which way the character is facing, it was like this before but just not as noticeable." We're pretty sure that violates some rule about the flag. Yeah, the US flag has rules. Maybe we'll get a non-Frank Miller Sin City version of Chun Li next?

Akuma-matata, Street Fighter HD shows off new character
Last week Capcom showed off another character sprite for their upcoming (here we go again with the title) Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix , or SSFIITHDR, for XBLA and PSN. Capcom swears that the Ken model is how he'll look in the game and we really can't wait to see him in motion. This week, to give a better comparison, Capcom is showing off Akuma in his original and redone versions for a clearer comparison. And they still swear this is how he'll look in the game.
If you don't know who Akuma is, don't feel bad, he was a secret character until Street Fighter Alpha 2 and was only a secret boss in Super Street Fighter II Turbo -- perhaps not the best character to choose on this little promo leakfest that Capcom is doing. Capcom is now asking what character you'd like to see next. Us? We'd like to ask for a character in a comparison shot that we actually know well. It might be nice to see Chun-Li's upcoming HD curves on those thunder thighs of hers.

Ken's looking good for new HD Street Fighter II
This is Ken, you may recognize him from such games as ... well, almost every version of Street Fighter ever. Capcom released this image of how Ken will look in the upcoming Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix for XBLA and PSN. Anybody who purchased the other Street Fighter II game on XBLA feel ripped off? Yeah, us too.
The new look is thanks to Udon Comics and we can't wait to see this thing in motion. Capcom will be releasing new images of the re-drawn sprites over time leading up to the release of SFIITHDR at some indeterminate point in the future. We have no doubt that this game is going to be gorgeous, we're just hoping the controls feel "right" using the Xbox 360 and PS3 controller.
