The development of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/star-wars-battlefront-3"><em>Star Wars Battlefront III</em></a> has been rocky, to say the least. Work began <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/12/29/former-free-radical-employee-leaks-original-star-wars-battlefro/">at Free Radical</a> before <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/04/cryteks-free-radical-purchase-confirmed-40-jobs-saved/">Crytek snapped up the company</a>, then the game was rumored to be in Rebellion's care before it eventually dropped from the face of the earth. Meanwhile Pandemic, the recently shuttered studio behind the first two games, apparently had <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/10/rumorang-star-wars-battlefront-iii-not-currently-at-pandemic/">nothing to do with the title at all</a>.<br />
<br />
The latest rumor, courtesy of <a href="http://kotaku.com/5458570/rumor-socom-devs-working-on-star-wars-battlefront-online">Kotaku</a>, puts development of a brand new <em>Battlefront </em>project, entitled <em>Star Wars Battlefront: Online</em>, in the hands of Slant Six Games and LucasArts. Slant Six is the studio behind several games in the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/socom"><em>SOCOM</em></a> tactical-shooter series, making it a reasonable candidate for a <em>Battlefront</em> developer. The game will reportedly arrive in 2011 on PS3 and Xbox 360. It will focus on online play and, presumably, <em>Star Wars</em>. According to Kotaku, <em>Star Wars Battlefront: Online</em> is also the source of the <em>Star Wars Battlefront III</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/12/battlefront-3-still-in-development-casting-director-claims/">casting rumors</a> that popped up last December.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/29/rumor-star-wars-battlefront-online-in-the-works/">Rumor: Star Wars Battlefront: Online in the works</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 29 Jan 2010 17:20:00 EST. But no, LucasArts is adamant about keeping the franchise on the handhelds, even going so far as to creating a DS version. We know what to expect from the PSP version, considering it's simply an upgraded version of the previous <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/20/psp-fanboy-review-star-wars-battlefront-renegade-squadron/">PSP-exclusive <em>Battlefront</em></a>. But what about the DS version? This video reveals some gameplay footage, and it looks drastically different from other incarnations of the franchise.<br /><br />The camera has been changed to a more top-down view, providing a much more fast-paced and arcade-like experience. The game is limited to just four players on the DS version, but a LucasArts producer insists that "the soul of <em>Battlefront</em> has been brought to Nintendo DS in a brand new way." We're wondering if, after watching the footage above, you agree.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-battlefront-elite-squadron-ds/">Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron (DS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-battlefront-elite-squadron-ds/#2035518"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/swbfds052604_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-battlefront-elite-squadron-ds/#2035517"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/swbfds052603_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-battlefront-elite-squadron-ds/#2035516"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/swbfds052602_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-battlefront-elite-squadron-ds/#2035515"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/swbfds052601_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-battlefront-elite-squadron-ds/#2035514"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/swbfds052605_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-battlefront-elite-squadron-psp/">Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron (PSP)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-battlefront-elite-squadron-psp/#2231317"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-06-01_07-49-26_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-battlefront-elite-squadron-psp/#2231316"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-06-01_07-49-00_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-battlefront-elite-squadron-psp/#2231315"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-06-01_07-48-38_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-battlefront-elite-squadron-psp/#2231314"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-06-01_07-49-30_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-battlefront-elite-squadron-psp/#2231313"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-06-01_07-49-36_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/18/lucasarts-shows-off-star-wars-battlefront-elite-squadron/">LucasArts shows off Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Sep 2009 10:45:00 EST. Though we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/18/rumor-free-radical-closes-shop/">heard a number of reports on Thursday</a> stating otherwise, it seems that <em>TimeSplitters</em> and <em>Haze</em> developer Free Radical has yet to shuffle off this mortal coil. Things are apparently not as grim as the initial reports suggested -- well, okay, they were recently refused entry into their office, and have officially gone into <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Administration_(insolvency)">"administration"</a>, which many would consider <em>quite grim indeed</em>. However, if the most recent report on the matter is to be believed, <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/news/%E2%80%9Csignificant-interest%E2%80%9D-shown-buying-free-radical">all hope is not lost for the once-Rad developer</a>.<br /><br />According to an employee at ReSolve, the administrator for Free Radical, there's already been a great deal of interest shown from publishers who want to purchase the developer, acquiring their assets and (remaining) employees. This interest largely stems from two undisclosed projects the developer had under their wing during their collapse, which many believe to be new entries into the <em>Timesplitters</em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/23/lucasarts-joining-forces-with-free-radical/"><em>Star Wars Battlefront</em> franchises</a>. The rumored involvement of <em>Battlefront</em> is enough for us to hold out hope for an old-fashioned Christmas miracle.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/21/free-radical-not-quite-ready-to-call-it-quits/">'Significant interest' shown in purchasing Free Radical</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 21 Dec 2008 14:00:00 EST. And, naturally, it was taken down. Thankfully, the internet is always there to catch the truth. However briefly, a listing for <em>Star Wars Battlefront III</em> <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=48807">was up on Amazon</a> announcing that the game was coming to every platform under the sun including our beloved Xbox 360. Amazon was offering the game for pre-order with a release date of March 15, 2009. Something tells us that date is probably a placeholder.<br /><br />With <em>Battlefront </em>series creators Pandemic currently hard at work on <em>Lord of the Rings: Conquest</em> for their new bosses at EA, the question remains as to who will develop the third installment of the series. Joystiq <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/08/star-wars-battlefront-iii-surfaces-on-amazon/">surmises</a> that it will be UK studio Rebellion, which was responsible for <em>Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron</em> for the PSP. Assuming the 2009 release date is even close to accurate, it looks like we'll have quite a while to find out.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/08/star-wars-battlefront-iii-surfaces-on-amazon/">Joystq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/09/star-wars-battlefront-iii-appears-on-amazon/">Star Wars Battlefront III appears on Amazon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Jul 2008 18:30:00 EST. LucasArts has always been good about supporting Sony's handheld. In fact, they even graced the PSP with an exclusive <em>Battlefront</em> game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/20/psp-fanboy-review-star-wars-battlefront-renegade-squadron/"><em>Renegade Squadron</em></a>. In spite of the handheld's diminutive capabilities, the wizards at LucasArts managed to get 16-player infrastructure gameplay onto the system. The upcoming <em>Force Unleashed</em> reaffirms the commitment Lucas has towards the PSP.<br /><br />A new listing on <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&amp;keywords=star%20wars%20battlefront%20iii&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;index=videogames&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325">amazon.com</a> shows <em>Star Wars Battlefront III</em> arriving on PSP, in addition to every other platform out there. With the last PSP <em>Battlefront</em> game being such a success, we can only hope that this listing turns out to be real. Guess we'll have to wait until E3.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/08/star-wars-battlefront-iii-surfaces-on-amazon/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/08/star-wars-battlefront-iii-could-be-heading-to-psp/">Star Wars Battlefront III could be heading to PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 Jul 2008 20:15:00 EST. Not too long from now, at a Media and Business Summit not all that far away, LucasArts may be announcing a new game in the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-wars-battlefront">Star Wars Battlefront</a> </em>series. Online shopping megalith Amazon.com has <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&amp;keywords=star%20wars%20battlefront%20iii&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;index=videogames&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325">added listings</a> for <em>Star Wars Battlefront III</em> ... for no less than <em>six</em> platforms. The game is available for pre-order and has what we can only imagine is a tentative March 15, 2009 release date.<br /><br />A new game in the series is hardly surprising; after all, <em>Battlefront</em> is the best selling Star Wars video game franchise of all time. Reports of it being in development also popped up following LucasArts' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/06/lucasarts-cuts-staff-remains-committed-to-internal-development/">recent layoffs</a>, though the company would not comment on it or any other unannounced titles at the time. <br /><br />Amazon has <em>Battlefront III</em> slated for availability on PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, PSP, and DS. If this holds true, it would certainly debunk an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/27/star-wars-battlefront-iii-only-on-the-xbox-360/">old rumor</a> that the game might only hit Xbox 360. Now there's the matter of a developer. With Pandemic - the studio responsible for the first two games - now owned by EA, and internal development <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/lucasarts-cuts-hit-force-unleashed-team-after-all/">slowing down</a> at LucasArts, a new hope must arise. Our best guess at the moment is the rebel forces at Rebellion, the UK-based studio responsible for the generally well received <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/10/han-shoots-first-in-star-wars-battlefront-renegade-squadron-for/"><em>Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron</em></a> on PSP.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=48807">GoNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/08/star-wars-battlefront-iii-surfaces-on-amazon/">Star Wars Battlefront III surfaces on Amazon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 Jul 2008 19:30:00 EST. We're providing a shortened review for <em>Renegade Squadron</em> because ... well, you've read most of our impressions. In fact, you've read impressions from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/01/star-wars-battlefront-week-andrews-impressions/">Andrew</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/02/star-wars-battlefront-week-colins-impressions/">Colin</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/03/star-wars-battlefront-week-nicks-impressions/">Nick</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/04/star-wars-battlefront-week-jems-impressions/">Jem</a>. Here's a final thought on the game with the now-requisite PSP Fanboy score.<br /><br /><em>Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron</em> is an impressive technical accomplishment for the PSP. It's certainly has its flaws, but bringing massive online battles such as these exclusively to the handheld certainly deserves some applause. Without a doubt, <em>Renegade Squadron</em> is the <em>Warhawk</em> or <em>Halo</em> of the PSP: the definitive online game for our system.<br /><br />The included single player mode is brief, easy, but nonetheless well executed. When viewed as a primer for the game's primary mode, the online multiplayer, the single player campaign more than delivers. Instead of being destroyed by the competitive online field, this gives a chance for players to learn the nuances of the control, giving each player a fair chance of mastering the game before heading online. The Conquest Mode was a stand-up hit for many on the PSP Fanboy team -- and for good reason. The addition of "Instant Action" against bots is also a huge plus -- something that's missing in many modern console shooters.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/20/psp-fanboy-review-star-wars-battlefront-renegade-squadron/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PSP Fanboy review: Star Wars Battlefront Renegade Squadron</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/20/psp-fanboy-review-star-wars-battlefront-renegade-squadron/">PSP Fanboy review: Star Wars Battlefront Renegade Squadron</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 20 Oct 2007 19:00:00 EST. If you're in the San Francisco metro area, you may want to head to the <a href="http://westfield.com/metreon/">Sony Metreon</a> for the <em>Star Wars Battlefront</em> launch party. The festivities start next Tuesday at 6PM. LucasArts is promising tons of prizes, such as the Han Solo carbonite case -- free for the first 200 people that purchase the new PSP bundle. If you come in costume, you'll get a chance at winning a Darth Vader lightsaber replica. Of course, with tons of people expected to show up, there'll undoubtedly be tons of opportunities for some local wi-fi multiplayer as well.<br /><br />For the complete details, check out the game's <a href="http://blogs.ign.com/RenegadeSquadron/2007/10/04/68075/">IGN blog</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/04/star-wars-battlefront-launch-party-in-sf-next-week/">Star Wars Battlefront launch party in SF next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Oct 2007 16:15:00 EST. <em>All this week, the writers of PS Fanboy will share their impressions of <strong>Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron</strong>. Make sure you come back every day, as we'll be giving away five limited edition Darth Vader PSP-2000 systems.</em><br /><br />When I first heard that the next <em>Star Wars Battlefront</em> game was coming exclusively to PSP, the first thing I asked was "why?" It's not that I don't love my PSP -- but I found it surprising that the biggest <em>Star Wars</em> gaming franchise of all time would make Sony's diminutive handheld its home, rather than a console powerhouse. Certainly, a game that's all about online connectivity would benefit from the additional horsepower that's demanded from a game of this kind. So, when the first footage of the game was released, I was admittedly concerned. The framerate was far from stable, and the graphics lacked the polish that I expected from a modern PSP game.<br /><br />Well, a good number of my worries were put to rest when I picked up <em>Renegade Squadron</em>. The developers finally gained access to the PSP's full clock speed, 333MHz, and the framerate has stabilized quite nicely. Granted, the level of detail isn't what I'd like it to be, and the draw distance still leaves a lot to be desired. Considering the limitations of the PSP hardware, it does seem like the team at Rebellion have still pulled off an impressive technical feat for the handheld, especially considering how large the environments tend to be.<br /><br />There's a lot to do in <em>Renegade Squadron</em>, and it can be quite daunting at first. Thankfully, there are tons of in-game tutorial videos that attempt to explain all of the features of the game. However, I discovered the best way to learn is to simply jump into the single player story mode, which offers far more useful advice. The tutorial will guide you through the basics of capturing bases, choosing weapons, conducting battle, and flying spacecraft. After a few levels, you'll have gained a basic understanding of <em>Renegade Squadron</em>'s basic gameplay mechanics.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/01/star-wars-battlefront-week-andrews-impressions/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Star Wars Battlefront week: Andrew's impressions</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/01/star-wars-battlefront-week-andrews-impressions/">Star Wars Battlefront week: Andrew's impressions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Oct 2007 09:00:00 EST. <p>Hot on the heels of the official release comes a patch for Star Wars: Battlefront. The game has surprised a few of us old-timer online gamers, who assumed it would be a rehash of other troop games. But the title has its fair share of originality, and manages to capture the Star Wars atmosphere, without becoming too vanilla. A full review is forthcoming, but you can see where I'm going. The patch deals with a few bugs:<br />
<br />
<br />
  * Improves NAT negotiation for online games which may help improve multiplayer performance.<br />
<br />
    * Minor fix to server browser screen.<br />
<br />
    * Corrects an issue with connecting via GameSpy Arcade.<br />
<br />
    * Corrects an issue with losing connection to the host after Task-Switching.<br />
<br />
    * Added planet names at Planet Loading Screen.</p>

New York has its share of hotels that have hosted the Lucas press events. I've gone to the last couple and seen some real winners. And some real duds. But the one thing you can say about Lucas is that they keep on trying. For years they had a drought of bad product. The Star Wars franchise was being treated like some second-tier IP, especially around the time of Episode 1. But as they saw their sales (and reputation) plummet they got their act together, and now they're providing consistently good material. This current line-up offers something for fans of Star Wars, sure; but more importantly it offers a lot for fans of fun games. This time around I was shown Knight of the Old Republic II, Star Wars: Battlefront, Star Wars: Republic Commandos, Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Light Speed, and (perhaps the most intriguing of them all) Mercenaries. Today's round up will give you my impression of Battlefront and Mercenaries.</p><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2004/09/21/lucas-gives-joystiq-hands-on-with-battlefront-and-mercenaries/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lucas gives Joystiq hands-on with Battlefront and Mercenaries</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2004/09/21/lucas-gives-joystiq-hands-on-with-battlefront-and-mercenaries/">Lucas gives Joystiq hands-on with Battlefront and Mercenaries</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Sep 2004 16:44:00 EST. <p>IGN has posted a review of Star Wars Battlefront. The Battlefield 1942-in-space has had a lot of us Star Wars fans hungry for some head-to-head warring. If the review is to be believed, the title is not going to rise to the top as we'd hoped. The overall polish is below standards, the AI is rocky, and the game is "too easy". Take it for what it is...a review. But it's always more fun to see a gamer excited about an anticipated game like Battlefront The IGN reviewer gives the game a 7.5, but there doesn't seem to be very much in the actual review to back up a score that high. I'll reserve judgment until some more reviews (and maybe a patch or two) comes out.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2004/09/20/star-wars-battlefront-review-may-disappoint-some/">Star Wars Battlefront review may disappoint some</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Sep 2004 14:57:00 EST. <p>One week before its release, Star Wars Battlefront is getting a thorough once-over from the game press. Avault presents a fine interview with Greg Borrud, Executive Producer at Pandemic Studios, the game's creator. The interview touches on everything fro AI to tactical balancing to the unannounced map editor (we have our fingers crossed that they offer one, considering all the mini-films it would inspire). Pandemic Studios had a hand in the Battlezone series, a couple of the most underrated games in PC history. Our hopes are high, our expectations are low. We are ready to play.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2004/09/14/star-wars-battlefront-interview-begins-the-countdown-to-release/">Star Wars Battlefront interview begins the countdown to release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Sep 2004 12:38:00 EST. <p>Lucas' PR people are working overtime these days. Hot on the heels of their announcement of a new GBA game (Star Wars: Apprentice of the Force), they've now held a press conference just to make sure we don't forget them. They presented three of their upcoming titles. Star Wars: Republic Commando, KOTR 2 and, of course, Star Wars: Battlefront, all get revised looks from the nasty press corps. The Gamespot page that we link to here includes updated impressions of the games, as well as new clips to peruse. Many, many clips. Some would say too many.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2004/07/15/lucas-is-keeping-things-fresh/">Lucas is keeping things fresh</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 Jul 2004 15:03:00 EST. <p>You'd think that designing audio for a Star Wars game would be simple as hell; lift some John Williams tunes, sample a laser blast from a DVD, and do your best wookie mating call. But, alas, it's not so simple. Nick Peck, the man with a name we all want, is the sound designer of Star Wars: Battlefront, the tactical shooter coming our way this winter. He lays out the process of making the game sound like a Star Wars experience.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2004/07/08/star-wars-battlefront-needs-audio-to-be-any-good/">Star Wars Battlefront needs audio to be any good</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Jul 2004 10:00:00 EST. <p>Star Wars: Battlefront has been getting a lot of attention lately. Joystiq being no exception. Either the game is unbelievable and these are the tremors before the quake, or there's not much else going on in the business right now. Look, the game seems fun; but at a certain point it's going to feel like we already played it. The best we can guess is that the summer months tend to slow down on the news front, so it's the perfect time for unwarranted hype to breed, fester and spawn. So here's another preview...</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2004/06/24/star-wars-battlefront-plays-it-loose-and-easy/">Star Wars: Battlefront plays it loose and easy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 Jun 2004 10:15:00 EST. <p>The Battlefield 1942 of space operas gets another batch of screens, for promotional purposes only. The game looks to be shaping up nicely, with numerous environs and a growing list of weapons and game modes. For example, the "Conquest" mode will allow your team to take a special ability with them after every victory. These abilities will give you a small edge, as you move toward galactic conquest. Console players can play PC players, though console games will max out at 32 people per game. PC battles will be able to handle 64 soldiers. <p>Star Wars: Battlefront gets a long peek from IGN, in a preview that will make Star Wars buffs rustle. The developer found it in their hearts to show off some Endor Moon action. You can assume the role of rebel or Stormtrooper (presumably so you can take shots at Ewoks if you want). But one of the most intriguing details is the breakdown of classes in the game. Each side gets four kinds of soldiers and a unique character class all their own. No word on whether the Cantina Band is one of them.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2004/06/18/star-wars-battlefront-lets-ign-in/">Star Wars: Battlefront lets IGN in</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Jun 2004 11:00:00 EST.
