Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collection temporarily $100 at official shop

Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Capcom's fairly massive Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collection have been temporarily discounted over at Capcom's official shop, meaning that either version of the 15 disc box set can be had for the princely sum of $100.

While both bundles include a metric ton of physical goodies, Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Online Edition and Street Fighter X Tekken, the PS3 SKU also includes codes to download all three Street Fighter Alpha games on PSN, in addition to other digital bonuses.

So, if you're part of the subset of people who own both consoles and are eager to dump a solid Benjamin on a stack of Street Fighter tapes, the PlayStation 3 version will have more bang for your buck. Also, can we borrow some money?

XBLA countdown to 2013 daily deal: Them's fightin' games

Today's Xbox Live deal offers 50 percent off of Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection, Dungeon Defenders, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Online Edition and Dungeon Fighter Live, all for XBLA. Virtua Fighter 5, Dungeon Defenders and Street Fighter 3 are each 600 MS Points, while Mortal Kombat Arcade and Dungeon Fighter Live are 400 MS Points. You could say today's deals pack a real punch.

These sales mark the latest installment of Xbox Live's really long New Year's countdown, which offers daily deals on a variety of games until that big, reflective ball falls out of the sky on January 1.

Pick a fight with XBLA's Deals of the Week

This week on Xbox Live, you can get into a fight for cheap. And not the kinds of fights you get into with racists over chat - the kind you might actually enjoy. The XBLM Deal of the Week, active from today through Oct. 8, gives you half off Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix, and Dungeon Fighter Live - the last one not really fitting the theme, but at least it has "Fighter" in the title.

Other deals going on this week include discounts on Activision-published games, Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition, and Fighters Uncaged for Kinect.

Third Strike Online Edition's Color Pack DLC broken on 360, Capcom working on it

Fashion-forward fighters, take note: Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition's Color Pack DLC has been removed from the Xbox Live Marketplace following a statement issued by Capcom, stating that the Color Pack contains "incorrect files," and that a Color Pack containing correct files is being constructed.

If you purchased the DLC before it was removed from the Marketplace, tell Capcom about it here by clicking the "Ask a Question" button and selecting "General" or "Tech Support - General" from the category drop-downs. As soon as the updated DLC is back on Live, you'll receive an email containing a code to re-download your snazzy new digs. Just don't forget to delete your old new digs before downloading your new new digs.

Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition DLC adds color, commentary

Capcom has announced a few different DLC packs for Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition, thereby eradicating any doubt that the popular fighter hadn't been properly modernized.

The first pack, due on the week of Sept 6th, is the fairly self-explanatory (and immediately repulsive) "Color Pack 1." The first of several makeovers, it'll add 7 new colors per character, though these will not be saved in replay files and will not be viewable by opponents who don't own the DLC. It's up to you to describe the many ways in which they're missing out.

You'll also be able to download music packs, which add tunes from Street Fighter III's older entries (New Generation and Second Impact), within "the next month or so." Lastly, Capcom's planning to use "Match Pack" DLC as a vector to satisfy spectators. Two packs offer an hour's worth of content each, drawn from high-level matches saved during a "semi-secret" Capcom tournament and paired with commentary by James Chen. We'll learn more about their price and educational value later in the year.

European PSN releases for August 24

Sadly, the PSP has almost nothing new this week -- an issue Sony hopes to correct by drowning us all in dozens of discounts on PSP downloadables.

PSN Tuesday: Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Online Edition

The first game in the PlayStation Network PLAY promotion, Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition is available now on PSN. As we said in our review, the fighter retains its core gameplay mechanics, but still manages to be the best version of the Third Strike. Don't believe us? Check out the demo, also available now.

Another demo worth shooting, er, booting up is Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine. If not for yourself, do it for the Emperor.

Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition review: Aged to perfection

Going into Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition, the question wasn't "Will it be any good?" so much as "Will it still be any good?" See, a lot has happened in the twelve years that've passed since Third Strike hit Japanese arcades in 1999: The fighting game scene has died and been reborn anew, and our conventional understanding of the genre has seen its own phoenix-like regeneration.

Can a game that was considered nearly perfect at the peak of its relevancy still be considered as such years later? Does our crazy, modern world of Reptiles, C. Vipers and Cyclopses still need Third Strike? Yes, as it turns out, it can and it does. Like a fine wine, Third Strike has only improved with age.

BloodRayne XBLA delayed until Oct. 5, SF3 still on time [update]

We wondered whether the "PSN Play" promotion would lead to timed PS3 exclusivity for any of the games within, and our official answer at this point is "yes and no." BloodRayne Betrayal was originally due at the end of August on both PSN and XBLA; it's now due September 6 on PSN. Majesco informed Joystiq that the XBLA version has been bumped to October 5, though the publisher didn't say outright that the Sony deal was the reason.

Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition, however, won't have its release date bumped on either platform as a result of the promotion. Capcom confirmed on Unity that the game is still set for August 23 on PSN and August 24 on XBLA. We have inquiries in with the rest of the PSN Play publishers, and we'll update when we hear back.

Update: Sega tells Joystiq that Renegade Ops is still due for a multiplatform release in September.

PlayStation Network PLAY is (a lot) like Summer of Arcade; starts later this month

Sony has just announced PlayStation Network PLAY, "a new program showcasing four of the season's hottest action titles." We'll just cut right to the quick here, guys: It's Summer of Arcade, but for PS3. Oh, and with a way dumber name.

The four games on offer are Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition which will be available on August 23 for $15; the latest DeathSpank adventure The Baconing available August 30 for $15; the impressive BloodRayne: Betrayal, available for $15 on September 6 (a delay for PSN); and lastly Avalanche's Renegade Ops, available on September 15 for $15. There's one last game in this lineup of four: If you purchase all four of the above titles you'll be gifted Payday: The Heist by way of a voucher code "for redemption when the game releases." One caveat: You've got to be 18 or older (read: lie on your PSN account). If you don't want to bother with all that, you can pick it up solo for $20.

So that separate free game also sounds a lot like Summer of Arcade, but since we already know how Summer of Arcade works, we've taken it upon ourselves to catalog the ways that PlayStation Network PLAY is, in fact, totally different than Microsoft's initiative:

You can pre-order titles; each pre-order nets you a free PS3 theme
"PLAY also offers gamers a separate gift with purchase for each order made throughout the duration of the program" - These mostly take the form of free in-game goodies, like a DLC fighter for Street Fighter III, a bonus co-op character for The Baconing, a PlayStation Home tchotchke for Bloodrayne: Betrayal, and some extra vehicles and weapons for Renegade Ops
PlayStation Plus subscribers get "an automatic 20% off every PLAY program purchase"
One final difference: Unlike Summer of Arcade, it doesn't appear any of these titles, short of Sony's own Payday: The Heist, have any exclusivity. We're following up with Sony and all of the individual publishers now.

Street Fighter 3: Third Strike goes Online starting August 23

You're not tired of news about Capcom fighting games yet, are you? If so, uh... sorry. We've got some great posts just below this one, some of which aren't about fighting games. Now, for the rest of you, Capcom announced the release dates for the XBLA/PSN update of Street Fighter 3: Third Strike.

You'll be able to fight for the future in the online version of a past Street Fighter starting August 23, when it hits PSN. The XBLA release follows the next day. Check out a trailer above to see some of the stuff added to this version of the beloved 1999 fighter -- like GGPO-based online play, graphical filters, and challenges.

Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Online Edition preview: Fight in the future

Before I get started detailing what Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Online Edition is, I should mention what it isn't: an Xbox Live Arcade exclusive. I was under that impression, and so I was a little surprised to notice that, as I spoke with Capcom's Seth Killian, we were totally playing on a PS3. According to Killian, it's definitely coming to PSN, simultaneous with the XBLA release, and always was.

That non-exclusivity is a good thing, because I'd hate for anyone who likes Street Fighter 3 even a little to miss out on all the love poured into this collection. There might be too much love in here.
