The first rule it's broken is "Don't put your plans on a big-time gaming blog" and the second is "Don't spoil the theme." Ryu is going to be so suspicious. Regardless, Capcom is celebrating Street Fighter's 25th anniversary - which lands on August 30 - with a call for fan art and remixes, to potentially be used in some sort of official capacity.

Capcom urges submissions to include the "anniversary" theme in a recognizable way, with "reflection and nostalgia" as main points, community manager Brett Elston writes on the Capcom-Unity blog. The full rules for art submissions are here, and the musical notes can be found here. The deadline for both contests is May 4, 11:59 p.m. PST.
Capcom's throwing a party and your fan art, music is invited (you aren't) originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 19 Apr 2012 19:30:00 EST. A single screen of new DLC released by Capcom shows Asura facing off against a distinctly Street Fighter IV-looking Ryu, complete with SFIV-style HUD elements and the traditional side view. Even the background imitates a familiar Street Fighter backdrop while simultaneously making sense in Asura's world.

Capcom didn't offer any more details about the DLC beyond that one screenshot -- no date, no price, nothing. But that teaser is enough to guarantee we'll be paying attention.
Asura takes his Wrath out on Ryu in upcoming DLC originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 17 Feb 2012 11:20:00 EST.

In what basically amounts to a 3-hit news shoryuken, LG and Capcom have announced that a mobile version of Street Fighter IV will fight its way onto Google's Android OS sometime in Q4 (Hit 1), and that the title will be exclusive to an upcoming LG smartphone (Hit 2), but only for the first three months (KO!).

No pricing or release information has been given beyond the Q4 window, and LG has yet to announce which of its smartphones will receive the title. The press release refers to the manufacturer's "first HD Android smartphone," however, pegging the LU6200 as the prime suspect. No word on whether or not this is a direct port of the iOS version of Street Fighter IV, but the LU6200's slate form factor would easily facilitate the title.

Once we know more about Street Fighter IV's system requirements, we'll have a better idea of which phones will be able to run the fighter once the exclusivity agreement has run its course. For now though, all we can do is cross our fingers and think button-y thoughts.
Continue reading Street Fighter IV coming to Android, exclusive to LG (at first)

Street Fighter IV coming to Android, exclusive to LG (at first) originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 19 Sep 2011 15:50:00 EST. Street fighting is serious business, but even the single-minded Ryu can't be serious all the time. This is especially true when he's made out of vinyl and absolutely adorable. Just look at Dhalsim and his cute little Yoga Fire!

Standing at 3 inches tall, all twelve of the original Street Fighter 2 characters are represented in the Kidrobot collection, including some alternate costume colors. You can check out more images at the Kidrobot website. While you're there, see if you can avoid hitting that big, friendly "buy" button.
These Street Fighter figures will pummel your heart originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 15 Jul 2011 00:00:00 EST. If you've ever been even slightly curious about the iPhone version of Street Fighter IV, we encourage you to check it out today, for two reasons:

 It's 99 cents

All proceeds from its sale for the next week are going to earthquake relief

So by buying it, you do a good deed and you get a cheap game. Capcom is also dropping the Monster Hunter Frontier Online fee for people in the affected Tohoku region of Japan, which should make from a nice distraction. In addition, the company is donating ¥100 million ($1.23 million) to the relief effort, and reducing electricity usage at its arcades and other businesses in the area.

Microsoft is putting the hurt on prices for select titles on the Games For Windows marketplace through next week. Capcom's PC version of Street Fighter IV is half off the usual price during the promotion -- $14.99 -- as are 16 titles from Square Enix. The sale is effective through next Wednesday, February 16.
Now, modder "demize2010" has gone the other way, bringing gesture controls into Street Fighter IV. Using Kinect and the FAAST software, he's mapped Ryu and Ken's moves to specific gestures, so that the game character punches when he punches, throws a fireball when he pantomimes throwing a fireball, and so on.

Basically, it's what we all thought the Sega Activator would be. If you'd like to try it out yourself -- and you have a copy of Street Fighter IV for PC, of course -- you can find a file with the specific key bindings on the Kinect Hacks site.
Continue reading Kinect Hacks: Street Fighter IV gone gestural

Kinect Hacks: Street Fighter IV gone gestural originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 20 Jan 2011 00:30:00 EST. Walmart.com is selling the standard edition FightStick, along with a copy of Street Fighter IV, for just $29.

Even if you already have an arcade stick, don't you need one for a second player? Or to experiment with modding? As for that Street Fighter IV, you probably already have it (or even Super SFIV) if you're shopping for arcade sticks, but who cares? Trade it in or give it away. The FightStick itself usually sells for much more than that -- even at Walmart.
One of the screenshots included with the update also shows Dee Jay, who, curiously, wasn't announced. Tiger uppercuts and MAXIMUM pants aren't the only new additions to the phone fighter, however: the update also adds a new feature that sounds like it's straight out of Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition.
You'll be able to turn on a new mode that searches for nearby players while you're in single-player, allowing them to challenge you to matches even while you're playing solo. Capcom's not looking to break its habit of scrunching down its popular franchises for use on the iPhone, it seems. Capcom Japan today outlined its mobile gaming plans for the near future -- plans which include the winter release of Dead Rising Mobile and "Capcom Arcade," a storefront which will host an expanding library of the developer's classic titles.

Dead Rising Mobile will be a 3D action game in the vein of the series' console iterations with some form of Facebook and Twitter functionality. Capcom Arcade, much like the Xbox Live Game Room, will host a number of virtual arcade cabinets that require purchased "tokens" to play. Alternatively, permanent access to each game can be had for a larger, one-time fee. The Arcade service will launch before Dead Rising Mobile and will feature Street Fighter II, Ghouls'n Ghosts, 1942 and Commando.

Finally, Capcom is also planning another update for the iPhone version of Street Fighter IV in mid-to-late November. The update will include a new challenger (following the last update's introduction of E. Honda and C. Viper), in addition to a handful of new networking options. We can't wait to see which brawler we can put our thumbs on next! That ... didn't sound good.
Dead Rising Mobile, Capcom virtual arcade coming to iPhone originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 05 Oct 2010 20:15:00 EST. Some may think of pitting the two worlds of Marvel and Capcom against one another as the ultimate cage match -- but have you considered what the match-up of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 against Street Fighter 4 might look like? Capcom's Christian Svensson recently told EventHubs that he expects the former to outsell the latter, thanks to the recognizable characters lent by Marvel, as well as "a more accessible but still deep fighting system that's fun for casual players and EVO attendees."

Svensson added that he expects extremely strong sales for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 thanks to the fact that it "has been by far, our most requested sequel title in my tenure here at Capcom." Obviously, we need to look into recruiting more outspoken members for our Little Nemo: The Dream Master fan club.
Capcom expecting better sales for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 than Street Fighter 4 originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 30 Sep 2010 21:15:00 EST. Can you pull off all of Ryu's trials in Super Street Fighter IV? Yes? Can you do them single-handedly? We think not! YouTube user biffotasty decided to give it a try, spending an hour "to see if it was doable." Trial 21 and 24 proved to be difficult, but thankfully -- for your entertainment -- "I realized that I was hardcore."
Continue reading Video: Super Street Fighter 4, played single-handedly

Video: Super Street Fighter 4, played single-handedly originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 07 Sep 2010 18:30:00 EST.
Sure, your kicks are probably all right -- they might have those spring things on them, and maybe the velcro is really solid. But do they have freakin' Akuma painted on the side? Didn't think so. That's what makes these customized sneakers from Diversitile so awesome -- they feature a continuous art design with everyone's favorite Street Fighter character (suck it, Blanka) wrapped around a pair of Nike Dunks, and even the laces are styled after Akuma's beaded belt.

The shoes were created for the Clash of the Customizers design battle and auction going on right now, so odds are that you probably can't afford them anyway. Guess you'll have to make do with the skates you got, dawg -- better get a little duct tape on that hole in the heel.

These custom Street Fighter Akuma shoes have a demon's sole originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 26 Aug 2010 05:00:00 EST. She'll be added to the fighting game through a free update, in the same manner as previous additions Cammy and Zangief. You can see a clip of Viper in action after the break, courtesy of IGN.

Capcom has yet to date this DLC, so you'll have to play Viper-free for now. In addition, Capcom hasn't made any announcement about a downloadable arcade stick for the iPhone, probably because that technology doesn't actually exist.

Continue reading C. We thought we'd take the opportunity to compare the graphics in this handheld version to the existing Street Fighter IV on iPhone.

However, there's not much of a comparison. The iPhone Street Fighter uses pre-rendered 2D sprites based on the console/arcade game's 3D models, for a look reminiscent of Killer Instinct. The 3DS game, on the other hand, appears to use lower-detail versions of the actual 3D models, judging by the dynamic camera angles. That's why you get to see the extreme close-up of Ken's goofy punch face up there.

Of course, it's worth noting that these are early screenshots, and the final game may come out looking different. Given the relatively low texture detail, though, this looks like something that could be possible on a handheld system. Compare the two games yourself in our galleries.
According to IGN, Zangief will soon join his street fighting brethren on the iPhone. You can see video proof after the break. The Russian wrestler, like Cammy, will arrive via free DLC at some point in the near future.

In other news, if you can pull off a spinning piledriver without using the special attack button, you're officially done with video games.
Strum up the awkward and hammer down the idea of using an actual guitar as a Street Fighter IV controller. OpenChord.org produces an open source guitar controller meant for use in games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero, but like a silent film actor making the switch to talkies, its use for a fighting game seems misplaced.

We're most certainly fans of peripherals being used in new and nerdy ways. Heck, we applaud the fancy footwork used by Nick Hagman in his DDR pad challenges. But this OpenChord thing for fighting games just seems unwieldy. Check out the video after the break.
We're happy to report that Joey Ansah, Owen Trevor and Streetlight Films have figured out the secret formula for making a good Street Fighter movie: make it really short. There's no time for terrible dialogue, shoehorned character cameos or questionable characterization in this three-minute film. There's just time for one beautifully shot fight sequence between Ryu and Ken ... which makes sense for a movie based on a fighting game.
Continue reading Street Fighter Legacy is the best three minutes of Street Fighter film ever

Street Fighter Legacy is the best three minutes of Street Fighter film ever originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 07 May 2010 01:27:00 EST. Apparently, the project is promising enough to receive Capcom's "blessing," according to Ansah.

A few poster images and two (very) brief teaser trailers, which you can see after the break, reveal just how faithful Street Fighter Legacy's look is. Ken's eyebrows are accurate, we'll say that much.

Daigo "The Beast" Umehara, last seen battling US champ Justin Wong at Capcom's Fight Club, is considered one of the best Street Fighter players in the world. He'll now use and promote Mad Catz's arcade sticks at tournaments. That's great for him and all, but the partnership benefits us as well: in addition to acting as a pitchman, Umehara will offer his considerable expertise to Mad Catz during the design process on future joysticks. Usually, we'd roll our eyes at a "pro gamer" attaching his name to peripherals, but there's a promise of really nice arcade sticks here!
The iPhone/iPod Touch version of Street Fighter IV is $6.99 (30 percent off) on the App Store for the next few days, to promote the console release of Super Street Fighter IV. The game is regularly priced at $9.99, so those few extra dollars can be used on other games -- like, Angry Birds.

Now, we know what you're thinking: "How can Street Fighter IV work on iPhone?" Apparently pretty well: it's got a surprisingly high Metacritic score.
Update: Capcom has officially announced both Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2. Additionally, a Capcom representative clarified some details about the MvC3 character roster for Joystiq: "We're not necessarily hyping the number of characters with MvC3, we're hyping quality. These aren't just sprites you can plug into the game. This is a full, disc-based release with gorgeous 3D models powered by the latest version of MT Framework. At this point, there are roughly 30 characters in the game, but that number will increase. You can rest assured that Niitsuma-san and his team will be working hard to include as many characters as possible before the game hits next year."

Original Story: There have been rumors swirling around about a sequel to Capcom's superhero-flavored fighter Marvel vs Capcom 2 pretty much since the game arrived 10 years ago. And given Capcom's recent success with a Street Fighter revival -- not to mention the sales rampage of MvC2 on XBLA and PSN -- the sequel rumor mill has once again begun turning furiously. This week's press-only Captivate event in Hawaii, held yearly by the Japanese publisher, is said to have showcased just such a sequel in Marvel vs Capcom 3 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, claims PlanetXbox360. At the same event, a sequel to Bionic Commando: Rearmed is alleged to have been announced, though no details were provided in the post.

According to the report, MvC3 will receive a retail release "later this year or early 2011" and will run in "full 1080p." Allegedly, while the full character list is unknown, some have been confirmed. "Wolverine, Spider-Man, The Hulk, Magneto, Storm, and a few others will be back; but the team behind MvC3 have said they will be blowing fans out of the water with the sheer number of characters this game includes," alleges PlanetXbox360. The rumored sequel is said to be a nontraditional 2D fighter, which suggests that it could feature 3D elements, as seen in Street Fighter IV. PlanetXbox360 claims we'll hear more about the title next week and that the game will be playable at E3 this June. When reached for comment, Capcom told Joystiq, "We don't comment on speculation and rumors."
If your overactive imagination is already calling up fantasies of the next, next iteration of Street Fighter IV, you should reign that in right now. Producer Yoshinori Ono told Official Xbox Magazine (via CVG) he's "aware of the mistakes Capcom has made in the past" in relation to the numerous special editions past Street Fighter installments have received. He added, "Super Street Fighter IV should be the distinctive end" of the franchise's fourth chapter.

Capcom's not abandoning the title, though -- Ono said the company could ostensibly "upload a patch for Super Street Fighter IV 2011 edition that would have tuning and balancing." But as far as ever seeing Hyper Ultra Super Street Fighter 4: Turbo Tournament Edition EX: The New Challengers hit store shelves, Ono claims that "as a packaged product, I think this is the last."
Capcom: Super Street Fighter IV will be the last Street Fighter IV originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 09 Apr 2010 19:30:00 EST. Or the second. Or the third.

We learned this very quickly when trying out the game at Capcom's Fight Club event during GDC. Granted, there is a simplified input configuration -- which we discovered after this video was shot -- but longtime Street Fighter fans could get a tad miffed by all the whiffs.

Should you make the $10 investment for SFIV, on your phone, you'll probably want to spend some time in the game's expansive "Dojo" training mode before hitting the world circuit.
Video: The elusive iPhone Shoryuken originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 10 Mar 2010 10:30:00 EST. At a Capcom Fight Club event, Capcom launched Street Fighter IV for iPhone as fans watched -- which made for probably the most exciting iPhone game launch of all time.

It's not showing up on the App Store just yet -- Capcom said it may take a couple of hours for the Apple servers to catch up -- but sometime tonight, you'll be able to swipe, swipe, swipe until you finally pull off a Hadouken.
Street Fighter IV available on iPhone tonight originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 09 Mar 2010 22:13:00 EST. Following last week's killer deal on Batman: Arkham Asylum, Games for Windows on Demand continues its series of game sales with Street Fighter IV. Right now, the service is offering Capcom's fighter for 50 percent off, knocking the price down to a palatable $19.99. Or, if you prefer, Impulse is also offering it for the same price. Of course, it's worth noting that Super Street Fighter IV will be released in just a month, so you might just skip the whole thing and wait for a couple of weeks.

Unless, of course, the allure of "a nifty little special set of things" is just too much to resist.

And while the trailer seen above features the same two fighters (Ken and Ryu) that the last video did, we certainly don't mind getting another chance to marvel at the uncanny vision of Street Fighter IV being played competitively on iPhones; it's quite like being drunk in North Korea -- something just doesn't feel right. The trailer also gives a "Coming March 2010" at the end, so it would seem that we don't have too much longer before we'll be able to marvel at the game from the comfort of our own phones.
Attention would-be wastelanders, Fallout 3 is now available on Xbox Live Games on Demand. The game clocks in at 5GB and is available in all Xbox Live regions except India, Japan and New Zealand. It costs $29.99 in North America, which is about even with most retailers. As usual, prices for other regions will vary.

Meanwhile, Street Fighter IV -- previously available only in North America and Asia -- is now available in all Xbox Live regions. Before you plunk down the cash for Street Fighter IV, though, don't forget that you can grab something a little more super next month.
GamePro has dropped some details on the iPhone version of Street Fighter IV, which is due out in March. The site has word that Capcom will sell the game for $9.99 on Apple's App Store, and that it will feature a total of eight characters: Ryu, Ken, Guile, Blanka, Chun-Li, Dhalsim, M. Bison and Abel. While it hasn't shared any gameplay impressions yet, it did post a video, which you can see after the break. Surprisingly, the game looks just like Street Fighter IV, with the ultra moves, same colorful art style and other graphical touches from the bigger console versions.

We're still not sure about playing with the touchscreen "buttons," though -- while they aren't in the way as much as we thought from the original screenshots (most of the fighting takes place in the middle of the screen), not having that tactile feedback could be a problem. Still, the game looks good. No exact release date yet, but like all those people hanging out in the backgrounds of these fights, we'll be watching.

Gallery: Street Fighter IV (iPhone)

Continue reading iPhone Street Fighter IV has eight characters, will cost $10

iPhone Street Fighter IV has eight characters, will cost $10 originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 22 Feb 2010 22:30:00 EST. We've been hearing about Steve Harris's digital version of the soon-to-be relaunched EGM for quite some time now, and we're just one month away from the magazine's return to newsstands. However, if you're trying to get an early peek at what Harris has in store for EGMi: The Digital Magazine (that he's said will be released supplementally between print issues), now's your chance. But what's this? The mysterious unreleased "last issue"of EGM? It is!

As Harris puts it, "The links on this cover page aren't live yet - but they will be long before Summer arrives." Okay, okay, it might've taken a year for the issue to become available -- and yes, it might be full of content on games that have been out for quite some time now -- but hey, it's a chance to explore "layers and depth that you control." Doesn't that seem enticing? Well, we're not really sure quite yet, as the Screen Paper-based issue has yet to incorporate the promises we've been hearing since last September. With grand plans for the release of a digital magazine every week once the print mag relaunches, we'll certainly see how this shakes out soon enough.
EGM Now launches with ... digitized final issue of old EGM? originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 19 Feb 2010 19:00:00 EST. No, no, seriously. Street Fighter IV, the game, is actually going to come to Apple's portable, with somewhat scaled-down models lifted directly from its console big brother. Each character in the game also has their complete moveset, which you'll pull off with customizable on-screen virtual stick and buttons. In addition to warming up in Dojo Mode, you'll also be able to play against a friend via Bluetooth.

Though Capcom's touting a large roster, all we know at this point is that it will include Ken and Ryu, as seen above. While we're curious about how Capcom will fill the ranks, what we really want to know is how they'll make it more enjoyable than it appears at first blush, which is not at all enjoyable.
Street Fighter IV coming to iPhone ... why are you laughing? originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 15 Feb 2010 13:11:00 EST. Do you live in the UK and dream every night about the possibility of one day voting on a people's choice game of the year award? Right, us neither, but if you're into that kinda thing, UK retailer GAME is holding the second annual GAME British Academy Video Games Awards at the London Hilton on March 19 and you can vote for the awards show's top "honour." Sure, you can't actually buy tickets and attend or anything crazy like that (the event is live-streamed online, in fairness), but you still have just over a month to put in your vote for one of the 10 games in the running -- games that were chosen from a list comprising "the top selling games of the year sold in GAME stores."

At the very least, voters will automatically be entered into a contest to win a "Sony Home Entertainment Package," so, if nothing else, there's always the possibility of winning a Sony ... something (or somethings). Click through or glance a few inches up for the people's choice award contestant list.
Continue reading BAFTA people's choice GOTY voting now open

BAFTA people's choice GOTY voting now open originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 12 Feb 2010 01:00:00 EST. We get it. The outside world is far too dangerous to traverse just for video games. There are, like, bees and stuff out there. That's why we have things like Amazon and Games on Demand. The latest coming to the latter is Capcom's new Platinum Hits title, Street Fighter IV.

At $30, it's the tamest you'll ever see final boss Seth -- this could be your best bet at having some semblance of self-esteem.
