We've all been there -- you just owned C. Viper with Ryu and you think to yourself, "Dang. I could really pick up some drunk chicks with these awesome moves." Capcom just answered that thought with, "Wanna bet?"

Capcom has partnered with Pasela, a karaoke-bar chain based in Japan, to open a Capcom-themed entertainment bar in Shinjuku, Tokyo, called Cap Bar. Cap Bar is scheduled to open in January on the first floor of Shinjuku's Pasela Resort and will have game-demo kiosks, merch, and Capcom-themed food and drink menus, as well as serving as the filming location for Capcom's webshow, Hagi Toko.

Personally, we can't wait to sip on a "Chun-Li Chugger" and watch the carnage unfold.

Let me lay a hypothetical on you. Let's say that tomorrow, a major update is released for StarCraft 2, League of Legends, Team Fortress 2 or whatever your favorite, tightly balanced competitive online game may be. This update greatly reduces the effectiveness of many of your trusty techniques, but delivers a handful of overwhelming improvements to a select few others. It's fair to assume that the outrage over this un-balancing would be deafening, and that players would demand an explanation.

"While we originally designed this title with strong competitive balance in mind," explains your favorite developer, "we've decided to purposely make these specific elements overly powerful as to manufacture a competitive experience amongst players."

Sounds preposterous, right? After all, who would purposely sabotage their own title? Now for the Shyamalanian twist: That is precisely what is happening with the release of Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. (Spoilers, I know).
With the release of the Super Street Fighter 4 "Arcade Edition" DLC upgrade less than a month away -- the retail version will follow on June 28 -- there are some burning questions that must be answered. Capcom has heard the call and clarified several details in a new FAQ.

First and foremost, the full Arcade Edition update will comprise several downloads. Beginning on June 7, an an automatic update will be released to prepare your console or PC for the new content. Then, players choose between purchasing the Arcade add-on or installing the free "Update Kit." The Update Kit will allow vanilla SSF4 players to participate in matchmaking with Arcade Edition owners and will also allow them to spectate Arcade Edition matches. However, those using the Update Kit will not be able to play as or against any of the new characters, and all matches played will default to the original SSF4 character balance.

Additionally, Arcade Edition purchasers will have the option to play with the original character balance, though doing so will disable the new fighters. Head over to Capcom-Unity for more answers.
Capcom posts Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition FAQ originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 16 May 2011 19:52:00 EST.

Good ol' video games came through for Capcom over the twelve months ending March 31, 2011. The company reported "a history-making milestone" of five million-seller titles in the period, with Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (4.6 million units shipped) leading the pack. Additionally, Dead Rising 2 (2.2M units), Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (2M units), Super Street Fighter IV (1.6M units) and Lost Planet 2 (1.5M units) racked up high shipment numbers, and each surpassed the million-mark in pure sales.

In all, net sales in Capcom's "Consumer Online Games" division increased 60.8 percent over the previous fiscal year to ¥70.3 billion (about $873 million). But the sales success of so-called "major titles" wasn't the only contributing factor in Capcom's record bottom line for a fiscal year, which showed a net income increase of 257.6 percent over the previous year to ¥7.75 billion -- roughly $96.3 million in profit!

Despite reported losses of ¥1.45 billion due to restructuring and another ¥105 million filed under "disaster" -- the Great East Japan Earthquake knocked out ten of Capcom's arcades -- all of the company's business units recorded operating income gains for the year. Notably, the "Mobile Contents" division enjoyed some highlights, with downloads of The Smurfs' Village Facebook game exceeding expectations "by far" and the Japan-only iPhone version of Ghost Trick faring "well."

Capcom tempered its jubilation, however, noting that the forecast for the current fiscal year (ending March 31, 2012) calls for "lower sales and earnings." The company anticipates "immeasurable economic losses" in Japan due to the earthquake and its aftermath, as well as a "downturn in consumer confidence" in the game industry at large -- not to mention Capcom's weaker offering of AAA titles this year. Dead Rising 2 ... again?

"We will focus more than ever before on our global operations as the environment surrounding the industry rapidly changes," Capcom said, observing that "the rise of social games [is] fueling the growth of new competitors in the industry."
Capcom profits soar with help from record AAA game sales originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 06 May 2011 11:30:00 EST. Although Capcom "has not made any announcements" regarding Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition for consoles, others seem to be doing the talking for the publisher. A leaked trailer suggested that Arcade Edition would be available as downloadable content -- now mega-retailer Amazon lists a $40 disc as well. It shows a June 28 release date for North America.

A couple weeks back the British Board of Film Classification gave the title a June 24 release date for Europe. We expect Capcom to officially announce the title shortly.

Update: Capcom has confirmed the Arcade Edition will be available June 7 as DLC on Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows PC for Super Street Fighter IV owners at $14.99 (1200 MSP). The retail version will be available on Xbox 360 and PS3 on June 24 and 28 in Europe and North America, respectively. The PC version will hit the streets in July.
The site ConsoleTECH has posted a trailer (presumably leaked from Capcom's Captivate event) for something that we probably all knew was coming anyway: Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition DLC for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of SSFIV.

According to the trailer, the new DLC adds the arcade-only Yun, Yang, Evil Ryu and Oni characters, along with the changes to character balance made for the Japanese arcade release -- which contradicts a previous statement made by producer Yoshinori Ono. Those who download this add-on can still play against non-DLC Super Street Fighter IV players.

The update also enhances the "Replay Channel" with new features that allow you to send replay data to friends, "follow" certain people and watch their new replays, or watch only fights between people with 3000 PP or more.

Update: The original video we embedded has been pulled by Capcom. We've embedded another one, but, well, watch it while you can.
Continue reading Trailer confirms Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition DLC

Trailer confirms Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition DLC originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 07 Apr 2011 11:44:00 EST. Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition will apparently make its way to the UK in some form this June. Eurogamer has taken note of the British Board of Film Classification rating, which has the latest version of the fighter dated for June 24.

If the classification is for consoles, it goes against previous statements made by Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono, but would play into cryptic tweets he's made about Arcade Edition DLC. The new version would likely include the four new playable characters: Yun, Yang, Oni and Evil Ryu.

We've contacted Capcom to clarify exactly what's going on here. If the BBFC also classifies arcade machines, the DLC hints and classification could be two separate stories on parallel lines. However, if the classification is for consoles, it's still unclear if the new game will be a DLC code in a new retail box, or if current SSF4 owners will be able to buy it as a DLC expansion. Ono keeps using the term "DLC," so we'd lean toward it being the latter.

Two fighting game streaming giants, iPlayWinner and Level | Up Series, are teaming up to help raise money for Japan the only way they know how: by kicking ass. Simultaneous tournaments in Union City and Irvine, California will be streamed online as one massive show. Fight for Relief will feature giveaways, interviews and competition in Super Street Fighter IV and Marvel vs Capcom 3 from some of the best in the scene, including EG Justin Wong, Alex Valle, John Choi and others.

The fundraiser kicks off this Sunday, April 3, with all tournament proceeds and donations being given to Japan through GlobalGiving.org, a site that facilitates the actual giving of the money. We imagine flying to Japan with a giant briefcase stuffed full of cash just isn't the most practical way to do it.

If you want to sign up for either tournament, there isn't any pre-registration; just show up to either the NorCal venue or the SoCal venue with some cash and your fight stick and throw down!
Fight For Relief charity tournament raises money for Japan originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 28 Mar 2011 22:00:00 EST. We've known about the inclusion of Evil Ryu and Oni in Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition for some time now (both are hidden unlockable characters), but Capcom's finally acknowledging their presence -- well, okay, Capcom is acknowledging Evil Ryu's presence. A profile for the hate-filled hadoukener has surfaced over on the official Japanese site.

The site also revealed some screens and two brief videos highlighting Evil Ryu's Ultra Combos, which you can see in the gallery below and past the break, respectively.
Before the Super Turbo Hyper BBQ HD Ultra Mega Remixes there was just plain ol' Street Fighter 2, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this month. Capcom posted a birthday reminder for its classic fighter, which was born two decades ago in the arcades (remember those?).

Since 1991, Street Fighter 2 has seen six arcade iterations and near countless ports across consoles, PCs and handhelds (Tiger even!). Chances are you've played the game a time or two ... and had your pixelated butt unceremoniously handed to you.
Street Fighter 2 turns 20 originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 03 Mar 2011 11:20:00 EST. If you were looking forward to one day buying the "Arcade Edition" of Super Street Fighter IV on a PS3 or Xbox 360 disc (or even 3DS cartridge), you can go ahead and put that money toward something else. (Marvel vs. Capcom 3, maybe?) Producer Yoshinori Ono told Famitsu (via Andriasang) that Capcom has no plan to release the Arcade Edition for home consoles.

The reason lies in the game balance. The Arcade Edition includes characters who are deliberately unbalanced -- we're thinking Oni and Evil Ryu here -- in order to build "competitive spirit" among the people who hang out at arcades and play in short sessions. The home version of Super Street Fighter IV has been designed to better equalize the characters.

Of course, the absence of a standalone console release of the arcade version of the game doesn't preclude the release of Evil Ryu, Oni, Yun and Yang as Super Street Fighter IV DLC -- something Ono has proposed before.

Update: Ono has made several statements on Twitter suggesting that an Arcade Edition DLC announcement will be forthcoming after the release of Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition. Thanks, Kreg.
Ono: Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition won't come to consoles originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 25 Feb 2011 01:15:00 EST. At this time last year, Capcom was thanking Monster Hunter Tri for helping the company boost its 2009 year-end financial results. Today, Capcom heralded the monstrous shipments of Monster Hunter Freedom 3 that closed out 2010 and propelled the publisher's profits up nearly 300 percent in a nine-month period. During the first three quarters of its current fiscal year (which ends March 31, 2011), Capcom netted ¥6.836 billion (nearly $84 million) in profit -- up from just ¥1.731 the same period the year before. Sales of "Consumer Online Games" (what we call "video games," excluding mobile content) were the driving force, totaling ¥54.057 billion ($663.6 million) -- a bit more than 76 percent of total sales for the business, which includes arcade and amusement ("slot machine") operations.

Joining Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (currently only available in Japan), Capcom noted three additional "million-sellers" in the nine-month period (April-December 2010): Dead Rising 2 (with more than 2 million units shipped); Super Street Fighter IV (1.6 million units shipped "mainly to Europe and the United States"); and Lost Planet 2 (1.5 million sold -- "though the figure was less than [the] projected shipment").

During the period, Capcom also worked on "rebuilding the development departments comprising our core competence" in an effort to shift greater resources to its mobile operations, with specific focus on social gaming. Sales of "Mobile Contents" for the three quarters amounted to a modest ¥2.383 billion ($29.25 million), led by a bevy of iPhone releases and some "positive surprises," including the popularity of The Smurfs' Village on Facebook. And Capcom hasn't even accounted for all the MaXplosion press in January yet!
Monster Hunter again captures 'center stage' in Capcom 9-month fiscal report originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 02 Feb 2011 11:49:00 EST. Both fighters are strong, with reduced vitality to balance them. "Oni" looks significantly different from Akuma, with glowing white flames for hair. And Evil Ryu, as in previous Street Fighter games, is a stronger, faster version of Ryu with some of Akuma's abilities.

IPlayWinner has compiled full move sets for both characters, allowing you to study up before you attempt to take on the denizens of your local game center. Update: Youtube has removed videos featuring the two hidden characters due to copyright claims made by Capcom.
You'll still lose at Super Street Fighter IV a bunch of times if you compete -- so it won't be that different. But the organizers have partnered with fighting game tournaments in the US and elsewhere to create a series of Evo ranking events. There are also online tournaments (the Xbox Live one has passed) for people who can't reach the event locations, including a PSN tournament on Saturday, January 22.
All of these small-time tourneys will lead up to the main event, the Evolution World Finals, at the Rio Casino in Vegas, from July 29 through July 31.
Evo fighting game tournament announces 2011 season originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 06 Jan 2011 00:00:00 EST. One difference between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Super Street Fighter IV can be hard to see: Opponents' DLC costumes are invisible to PlayStation Network players who haven't also purchased the outfits. On Xbox Live, there's a simple solution in free "Catalog" add-ons that install the DLC assets on a user's hard drive, in order to show them worn on online opponents who have purchased and dressed up in the alternate costumes. To date, the free updates have not been offered on PSN. They likely never will be -- and Capcom tells us why.

"When you add new data to an existing product, there are significant costs to do so charged by the first parties," Capcom community shepherd Seth Killian explained in a forum post on the topic of the "invisible" PSN costumes. "On XBL, those costs were covered by Microsoft," and thus the Catalog DLC is free to download.

"For Sony, those significant costs are not covered," Killian added. "The story is a bit more complicated because the costs of adding new data vary by region in some cases, and some additions are free, or free within a certain timeframe, etc., but the bottom line in this particular case is that Sony would [have] charged Capcom significant fees for distributing the new costume data to users that hadn't actually bought the DLC."

The story is indeed more complicated: In a sense, the Catalog updates aren't free, since the only Xbox Live users that benefit from them are Gold members who play SSFIV online. And, of course, Gold subscribers pay a fee for that privilege, which in turn allows Microsoft to cover the costs of updates like the costume data. Do we sense a new Plus perk in the making?
PSN's missing Super Street Fighter IV costume 'Catalog' add-ons explained originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 04 Jan 2011 13:30:00 EST. "Guird by saving attack," the instructions on the cabinet read. "Chuse and attack." If someone tried to play this game as the first experience with Street Fighter, would he or she know how to "Shoot special comb"?

For that matter, would anyone learn anything useful from "Change power by the time," or "Can cancel attack by saving make your comb!" Without a thorough understanding of the mechanics, meta-mechanics and super secret meta-meta-mechanics of Super Street Fighter IV, this video clip might not seem like a big deal. Trust us, though -- this guy's 149-hit Chun-Li barrage might just be the most impressive combo we've ever seen.
Continue reading Super Street Fighter IV: The Legend of Chun-Li's 149-hit combo

Super Street Fighter IV: The Legend of Chun-Li's 149-hit combo originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 08 Dec 2010 05:00:00 EST. The Hit Box, a stick-less alternative to the classic arcade setup, represents an unusual form of input for fighting game enthusiasts. Essentially, the device takes the knobby portion of the controller and turns it into four buttons. Playing a fighting game just became more akin to using a funky keyboard!

The device is the brainchild of the Husser Brothers (Brian and Dustin). If you're interested in the extreme details of its design, you should check out a lengthy post on Shoryuken. If you're interested in purchasing one, you can contact Dustin directly at Hitboxes[at]gmail[dawt]com. We've posted the Hit Box basics video and an AngryBananas.com interview with the brothers after the break.
Check out the trailer after the break.

Images that seem to depict these two characters appear in the same leaked Xbox 360 Achievement image that showed Yun and Yang. So it would appear that all four of these characters are headed to the console game as well -- either that Achievement image is accurate, or a really clever (and prescient) fake.
Continue reading Evil Ryu and Oni Akuma in Super Street Fighter IV Arcade, likely also console DLC

Evil Ryu and Oni Akuma in Super Street Fighter IV Arcade, likely also console DLC originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 03 Dec 2010 14:00:00 EST. EventHubs has posted alleged screens of eight new Super Street Fighter IV Achievements supposedly tied to an unannounced DLC add-on. While the images do reflect updates to the game featured in this month's Arcade Edition release for Japanese arcades, they remain unverified by Capcom -- even if the new content is expected as DLC for the console version.

SSFIV producer Yoshinori Ono responded to tweets about the possible leak without authenticating the images, though he offered a "wink" in one tweet and a seemingly joking reference to checking with the R&D department in another. We've put in word to Capcom and will let you know what we hear back. In the meantime, anybody know a good way to counter Seiei Enbu?
Rumor: Possible Super Street Fighter IV DLC Achievements show Yun and Yang originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 29 Nov 2010 16:40:00 EST. The $25 Super Street Fighter IV offer from last week is back, for PS3. You can also get Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth or Mega Man Zero Collection on DS for $20, or the Platinum Hits version of Dead Rising on Xbox 360 for an amazing $11.64.

Should you decide to purchase Lost Planet 2 for some reason, Amazon isn't judging. The retailer is offering that game on both PS3 and Xbox 360 for $20. These deals will only be available today or until the supply runs out, as usual.
Amazon discounts a bunch of Capcom games today originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 25 Oct 2010 12:10:00 EST. It's about time you upgraded that boring ol' Normal Street Fighter IV for its Super counterpart, isn't it? Amazon's current Deal of the Day will let you do so at the significantly reduced price of $25, while the retailer's Lightning Deals are marking down other titles throughout the day.
Continue reading Amazon Lightning Deals strike games today, Super Street Fighter IV now $25

Amazon Lightning Deals strike games today, Super Street Fighter IV now $25 originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 20 Oct 2010 11:33:00 EST. Let's face it -- once those new Super Street Fighter IV costumes come out, the game's community will be split into two age-old castes: The haves and the have-nots. How will these two groups be able to play against one another, when one sports fancy duds the likes of which the other has never seen? Capcom recently explained that players without the DLC who play against a character using a new costume will still be able to fight against said player, though it will appear as though they're wearing their default costume.

This switcheroo can be prevented by downloading a free "Catalogue" add-on, which will allow players without the DLC to see the new outfits on other players. The Catalogue will come in two chunks, the first half arriving on Oct. 26 -- the same day as the first batch of costumes -- and the second on Dec. 21. This add-on has only been announced for the 360 so far; we've contacted Capcom to see if PS3 players will have access to it as well.

Of course.

Ono casually mentioned on Twitter yesterday that he was headed to Capcom USA to present "written proposal about DLC for [Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition]'s PSN, XBL." That would mean two new characters, Yun and Yang, could be released for consoles, alongside possible balance alterations. For some reason, we can't imagine Capcom USA declining Ono's proposal for more Street Fighter income, so look forward to some new characters.
Capcom Japan has dated the fall line of Super Street Fighter IV apparel. In fact, it's more like the fall, winter and spring line, as the company will trickle out the DLC packs (it's been teasing) in seven 5-costume releases; beginning in late October and culminating in a discounted complete set, featuring all 35 new outfits, on April 26, 2011.

Complete details are posted after the break. (The costume packs have only been dated and priced for Japan, but the information is expected to apply to North America as well.) Oh! What about ... ?
The trailer reveals two new features, both of which take advantage of the advanced wireless communication features in the system.

"Figure Collection" mode allows players to collect fighter figurines, which engage in automatic battles whenever two 3DSes with Street Fighter data come into contact. The winner in each match wins the opponent's figure. The other feature is more traditional, but also more awesome. If you happen to come across another SSFIV player while you have the game running, you'll be able to jump automatically into a versus battle ... which means you could literally fight someone you met on a street.
Continue reading Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition trailer shows new game modes

Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition trailer shows new game modes originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 29 Sep 2010 11:45:00 EST. We've seen a few concept renders of the snazzy outfits included in an upcoming Super Street Fighter IV DLC pack. Earlier today, we received our first look at the new duds in-game. Check out some screenshots and the fastest-paced trailer of all time posted below.
Continue reading Super Street Fighter IV DLC costumes previewed in-game

Super Street Fighter IV DLC costumes previewed in-game originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 24 Sep 2010 13:30:00 EST. Sorry, PC gaming Hadouken enthusiasts -- if you ever want a chance to play Capcom's updated version of the latest Street Fighter, you're going to have to do so on a console or in an arcade. In a recent interview with 4Gamer.net (via Gamasutra), producer Yoshinori Ono confirmed that while the PC version of Street Fighter IV was a big seller worldwide, the publisher has no plans to put the new and improved Super iteration on home computers due to the platform's high rate of piracy.

Ono added that a PC port is still possible, if Capcom can find a reasonable DRM solution for the title. We think there are other ways around the problem -- for instance, you could just donate some of the proceeds of the game to charity, as that might discourage oh no wait.
Super Street Fighter IV skips PC release thanks to piracy originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 22 Sep 2010 10:30:00 EST. Here comes another new challenger! Straight out of TGS's Tougeki fighting game tournament, Capcom finally, officially revealed the two new characters for the arcade release of Super Street Fighter IV: Street Fighter III's Yun and Yang.

If you're excited about these new characters, you could either wait for this arcade game to hit your local game center this December (in which case, you are in Japan), or you can start saving up for the unannounced, but inevitable, DLC.
Have you spent the days following the announcement of Super Street Fighter IV's upcoming DLC wardrobe change attempting to discern the new garments from the fuzzy silhouettes that were teased? Discern no longer, friends -- series producer Yoshinori Ono recently took to the Twitters to show off some concept art for Ryu, Chun-Li, Fei Long, Cammy, Juri and Sakura's new duds. Check them all out in the gallery below.

Now, we're far from fashion experts, but we can't help but take umbrage with a few of these designs. Like, Sakura? Do you know how difficult it is to perform crushing high kicks while wearing floral flip-flops? And Fei Long? It's after Labor Day, dude. Your whole situation is jacked. And Cammy? No. Don't. You can't.
Believe us, Zangief, we're just as surprised! Apparently when fans aren't fighting in the streets, they're taking time to share their love of Capcom's series by painting the streets full of fighters. Here's just a few, courtesy of Shoryuken.
Can you pull off all of Ryu's trials in Super Street Fighter IV? Yes? Can you do them single-handedly? We think not! YouTube user biffotasty decided to give it a try, spending an hour "to see if it was doable." Trial 21 and 24 proved to be difficult, but thankfully -- for your entertainment -- "I realized that I was hardcore."
Continue reading Video: Super Street Fighter 4, played single-handedly

Video: Super Street Fighter 4, played single-handedly originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 07 Sep 2010 18:30:00 EST. Well, we say "hinting," but these hints are delivered with all the subtlety of a Sonic Boom. In a post on the official development blog, Ayano points to a picture with the words "Here Comes New Challengers?!" and shares a screenshot from the arcade game, with an extra, mysterious character slot. Ayano said, "It looks like the arcade Super Street Fighter IV won't be ending with just a 100% port!!!"

If this were 1993, we'd be totally bummed, because an updated arcade Street Fighter game would have meant our home version was now obsolete, and we could look forward to spending another $70 on a cartridge in six months. These days, though, there's the possibility of DLC, so we'll save our dejection until we need it.
Super Street Fighter 4 arcade release will have new characters originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 20 Aug 2010 21:30:00 EST. Let's face it: Nobody ever reached a professional level of Street Fighter superiority without the tutelage of their forefathers. Except ... well, except for the first people who were good at the game. Regardless, you can (probably) reach the upper echelon of Super Street Fighter IV players by signing up for a few lessons being offered by pros such as Justin Wong and Ryan "Gootecks" Gutierrez.

Of course, these lessons come at a price ranging from $40 to $50 for one hour of help, and are delivered over Xbox Live and PSN. If those prices sound reasonable, you can find more info how to sign up on EventHubs. Or, you could just give us $50, and we'll tell you to Hadouken over and over again until the fight is over. You can't go wrong with the Just Keep Hadoukening[TM] strategy!
Street Fighter pros offering paid lessons over Xbox Live and PSN originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 09 Aug 2010 18:19:00 EST. Capcom experienced another "sluggish" performance in its latest financial quarter -- the first of Fiscal 2010, from April 1 to June 30 -- and consequently blamed slow growth of Lost Planet 2 sales, among other things. Net sales for the quarter were down 2.4 percent year-over-year at 19 million yen ($219 million) and net income dropped a dramatic 90 percent from last year to the tune of 213 million yen ($2.5 million).

Although titles like Super Street Fighter IV and Monster Hunter Frontier Online showed what Capcom calls "steady growth," LP2 and Monster Hunter Tri only sold at a "sluggish pace." The first two weeks of Ghost Trick sales were also met with disappointment, although the game premiered at number two in its first week of Japanese sales.

The Japanese publisher also lamented "shrinking" US and European markets "under the stagnating economy," as well as fluctuating exchange rates. Though sales across the board were lower than expected, Capcom considers its financial forecast for this fiscal year to be unaffected.
More 'sluggish' sales plague Capcom financials originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 29 Jul 2010 10:42:00 EST. In a Famitsu interview summarized by Andriasang, Ono assured fans that, among other things, the 3D visuals won't lead to 3D gameplay (turn to Tekken X Street Fighter for that.) "The gameplay will be the same as Super Street Fighter IV," he said.

There might be some additional control options, however. The article states that the team is considering mapping special attacks to the slide pad or touch screen. He also suggested that Capcom wants to use the system's wireless connectivity for both communication and gameplay, though he didn't specify whether he meant online or local wireless.

According to Famitsu, the game will have all 35 Super Street Fighter IV characters, and is currently 10 percent complete.
The Xbox 360 forecast is absolutely droughtful this week at retail, with the Clash of the Titans <strike>theater</strike> DVD release tie-in drying up store shelves. Thankfully, the Xbox Live Marketplace is overflowing with new content this week, including today's release of the new Madden demo.

Additionally, DLC for a pool of recent releases -- Alan Wake, Lost Planet 2 and Transformers, to name a few -- flowed out today, and the "Summer of Arcade" shines on tomorrow with Hydro Thunder Hurricane. (Did you read our review yet?)
