The score-driven <em>Strike Suit Infinity</em> jettisons most of the objectives of the original <em>Strike Suit Zero</em>, save for the obvious one: shoot things in space.<br /><br /><em>Strike Suit Infinity</em> recognizes success by placing you higher in competitive leaderboards, and hopes to augment the destruction of enemy spaceships with extrinsic rewards like points, chains, multipliers and credits to purchase reinforcements.<br /><br />This $7 deal nets you an infinite number of interstellar vehicles, and the eternally relevant reminder that they, as with all things in outer space, are coming to kill you. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/strike-suit-infinity/">Strike Suit Infinity</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/strike-suit-infinity/#5834536"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/ssz-infinity-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/strike-suit-infinity/#5834537"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/ssz-infinity-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/strike-suit-infinity/#5834538"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/ssz-infinity-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/strike-suit-infinity/#5834539"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/ssz-infinity-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/strike-suit-infinity/#5834540"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/sszinfinity02logo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/23/score-based-spinoff-strike-suit-infinity-coming-on-apr-30/">Score-based spinoff 'Strike Suit Infinity' coming on Apr. 30</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Apr 2013 17:00:00 EST. Producer Tanya Jessen, Lead Artist Pete Ellis, and Design Director Cliff Bleszinski talked at length about the game, revealing it to be a mashup of <em>Minecraft</em>, <em>The Walking Dead</em> and <em>Team Fortress 2. </em>It's designed and built in Unreal Engine 4, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/12/fortnite-is-epics-first-unreal-engine-4-game-heading-exclusive/">destined for a PC-only launch</a>.<br /><br />Jessen described <em>Fortnite</em> as a "co-op sandbox survival game" with three different elements. Scavenging will allow players to go out into the ruined world and find items and materials wherever they can. Building will let players first erect and then customize various structures of all shapes and sizes. Combat, the last part of the game, pits players against creepy yet "Looney Tunes-inspired" monsters attempting to take those structures down.<br /><br />"This is not just a game for people who like shooters or RPGS," said Jessen. "It's a game for everybody." And according to Bleszinski, <em>Fortnite</em> is a big change internally from what the studio has been working on more recently. "It's been really fresh for us," he said. "We've had like six years of <em>Gears</em> and we've perfected the art of killing. <em>Fortnite</em> is serving as a fresh change of pace for us."<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fortnite-san-diego-comic-con-2012/">Fortnite (San Diego Comic Con 2012)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fortnite-san-diego-comic-con-2012/#5150397"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/fortniitebuildingfinal_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fortnite-san-diego-comic-con-2012/#5150398"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/fortniitedurrrburger_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fortnite-san-diego-comic-con-2012/#5150399"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/fortniiteenvironment1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fortnite-san-diego-comic-con-2012/#5150400"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/fortniiteenvironment2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fortnite-san-diego-comic-con-2012/#5150402"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/fortniitenightcombat_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/12/epics-fortnite-is-a-fresh-and-bubbly-co-op-survival-sandbox-g/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Epic's Fortnite is a 'fresh and bubbly' co-op survival sandbox game</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/12/epics-fortnite-is-a-fresh-and-bubbly-co-op-survival-sandbox-g/">Epic's Fortnite is a 'fresh and bubbly' co-op survival sandbox game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Jul 2012 15:30:00 EST. The latest trailer from Ubisoft's upcoming survival title, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/i-am-alive"><em>I Am Alive</em></a>, focuses on the interesting combat system. With the game's emphasis on realism, fights are often tense and brutal, with the threat of a gun often the only thing between a peaceful situation and a gruesome machete attack.<br />
<br />
As you can see, <em>I Am Alive</em>'s fights are more often about using your sparse resources wisely under pressure than simply lining up the right shot, or having a bigger weapon than your opponents. We think it's a good hook, and you'll be able to play it for yourself when the game comes out during Microsoft's XBLA House Party, starting February 15.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/19/i-am-alive-trailer-explains-how-to-handle-yourself-in-a-fight/">I Am Alive trailer brings a gun to a machete fight</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Jan 2012 04:00:00 EST. In early December, Mojang's Daniel Kaplan <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/07/yes-mojang-plans-to-flesh-out-minecraft-on-ios-android/">announced via the Mojang blog</a> that the developer was working on an update to <em>Minecraft Pocket Edition</em> in order to address player concerns that the experience was too different from its desktop counterparts, specifically the distinct lack of any survival or crafting elements.<br />
<br />
While the crafting system will require UI redesigns, <a href="http://mojang.com/2012/01/08/where-is-my-update/">Kaplan says</a> that the first update, currently scheduled to go live on February 8, will make backend changes to "support the survival aspects of the game." It doesn't sound like any survival elements will actually be implemented this time around, but rather that this update will serve as the "foundation" for survival elements that will be added in later.<br />
<br />
The update also includes "neat looking animals and new blocks," as well as doors and fences, so now might be a good time to start building the farm you'll be furiously defending once the survival elements are patched in.<br />
<br />

Klei Entertainment's <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/shank"><em>Shank</em></a> was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/24/shank-review/" target="_blank">a lovable, uncomplicated indie b</a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/24/shank-review/" target="_blank">eat-em-up</a>. The game's protagonist went on a murderous rampage using whatever he had lying around, including guns, a big knife, a chainsaw, and a few other items. It's probably no surprise that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/27/shank-2-announced-during-ea-vegas-press-conference-coming-earl/">the recently announced</a> <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/shank-2"><em>Shank 2</em></a> is more of that kind of thing.<br />
<br />
The backgrounds are nicer and more colorful, Shank's enemies are more varied, and the controls are refined. It's a better, cleaner <em>Shank</em> experience. The indie charm is still there, and the whole game is more polished.<br />
<br />
Oh, and there's one big feature that will probably make the game for fans of the series: An endless online co-op survival mode.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/29/shank-2-back-for-more/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Shank 2: Back for more</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/29/shank-2-back-for-more/">Shank 2: Back for more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Sep 2011 17:00:00 EST. This week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/left-4-dead-2"><em>Left 4 Dead 2</em></a> mutation introduces a game mode so clever, we're surprised Valve hadn't thought of it yet -- <em>or have they</em>? Yes, players will temporarily be able to <a href="http://www.l4d.com/blog/post.php?id=4017">re-experience</a> the magic of <a href="http://www.l4d.com/blog/post.php?id=4387">Survival Versus</a>, in which one team of four survivors lasts as long as it can on a chosen Survival map, and then the next team tries to beat their time. The competing teams go back and forth in this manner until one team fails to surpass the other's lifespan.<br />
<br />
It sounds like a pretty hectic addition to an already hectic game type. Give it a try this week only if you think you can handle all the hect ... hecticnicity?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/26/next-left-4-dead-2-mutation-introduces-competitive-surviving/">Next Left 4 Dead 2 mutation reintroduces competitive survival</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 26 Sep 2010 21:00:00 EST. Some folks drive for the <em>thrill</em>. Some folks drive for the <em>money</em>. Some folks drive because it's all they know how to do. Some folks, though? <em>They drive to survive</em>.<br />
<br />
Specifically, we're talking about people who are playing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/split-second"><em>Split/Second</em>'s</a> "Survival" mode, which doesn't require speed as much as it requires ... not dying. Okay, you also need some speed as well, so you can outscore your equally endangered opponents. Also, precision, so that you don't hit the explosive barrels, of which there are many. As it turns out, you need a <em>lot</em> of things -- as <a href="http://www.viddler.com/explore/Joystiq/videos/3303/">the mode's debut trailer</a> (posted above) can attest.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/29/split-second-trailer-explains-the-even-more-dangerous-surviva/">Split/Second trailer explains the (even more dangerous) 'Survival' mode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Apr 2010 17:30:00 EST. You probably already guessed that a game that pits three different death-dealing species against one another wouldn't feature your garden variety multiplayer modes. <a href="http://blogs.sega.com/europe/2010/02/01/aliens-vs-predator-multiplayer-modes-dissected/">A recent Sega Europe Blog post</a> has confirmed your suspicions -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/aliens-vs-predator"><em>Aliens vs. Predator</em></a> will feature seven unique competitive game types, ranging from various "deathmatch" modes, to the propagatory "Infestation" mode, to the "Survivor" mode, which is featured in <a href="http://blogs.sega.com/europe/2010/02/01/aliens-vs-predator-multiplayer-modes-dissected/">the trailer posted above</a>.<br />
<br />
There's also "Domination," which <em>Modern Warfare</em> veterans should be familiar with, and "Predator Hunt," which <em>Dateline</em> correspondent Chris Hansen should be <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfrbsTWv9eU"><em>extremely</em> familiar with</a>. Check out <a href="http://blogs.sega.com/europe/2010/02/01/aliens-vs-predator-multiplayer-modes-dissected/">Sega Europe's blog</a> to learn more about the online carnage that will unfold when the game hits store shelves February 16.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/01/aliens-vs-predator-multiplayer-modes-explained-caught-on-tape/">Aliens vs. Predator multiplayer modes explained, caught on tape</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Feb 2010 15:28:00 EST. I knew that the first game enjoyed critical acclaim for more than adequately bringing survival/horror tropes to Nintendo's handheld, and ultimately <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/01/metareview-dementium-the-ward-ds/">scored pretty well</a> with reviewers, but ever since <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metroid-prime-hunters"><em>Metroid Prime Hunters</em></a> I've been wary of first-person mechanics on the DS.<br />
<br />
Thankfully, when first faced with manipulating <em>Dementium 2</em>'s main character, it became quickly obvious that the game's slow pace helps to account for any discomfort issues that might arise from the control scheme. Over the course of 45 minutes, I put together puzzles, traveled between two dimensions multiple times, and even fought a boss who tried to throw up on me from the ceiling (what a jerk!). Though its content and storytelling seems to be a carefully crafted amalgam of games from the three or so genres it mashes up (fps, adventure, survival/horror) - a handheld <em>Half-Life</em> meets <em>Silent Hill</em> on <em>Monkey Island</em>, almost - the time I spent with a preview build of <em>Dementium 2</em> earlier today felt like the beginning of what could be a very interesting game. <br />

Well, we finally know what game will be using it, we guess. Kind of. We don't really know much about the exact game, per se. What game? The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/ea-publishing-action-horror-franchise-from-suda51-and-re-creat/">one that EA is publishing</a> from Q Entertainment, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil"><em>Resident Evil</em></a> co-creator Shinji Mikami and the man responsible for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/30/wii-fanboy-review-no-more-heroes/">one of our most favorite Wii games</a>, Suda51. <br /><br />Suda says Unreal Engine 3 is a "powerful, easy-to-implement game engine" that is aiding his company to "quickly bring our vision to life." He also added that the "tools and technology" allow him to "create games faster, easier and with less risk." So are we excited? Well, maybe. It's not like the Wii version is mentioned and we would think it should be, considering no title up until now has utilized Unreal Engine 3 technology. But, hey, we'll try to be as optimistic as we can, because we feel confident in the abilities of all involved, to tell the truth. <br /><br />Now if only we could some information on <em>what this game is</em> ...<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/07/suda-51s-new-horror-game-to-use-unreal-engine-3/">Suda 51's new horror game to use Unreal Engine 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 Oct 2008 11:48:00 EST. <br />We know what you're thinking: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/disaster-day-of-awesome-trailers/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a>' protracted development can't have been <em>that</em> calamitous, right? The game released in Japan last week, and promptly earned itself a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/day-of-crisis-not-a-total-disaster/">respectable score</a> in <em>Famitsu</em>. And just <em>getting released</em> is probably more than we should expect for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/31/a-look-back-through-time-sadness/">some games</a>.<br /><br />But not every part of the title's gestation was peachy. The Monolith Soft team who worked on the game have been recounting their experiences in an interview for Nintendo's Japanese website, revealing that they were first approached about developing an "epic" game in early 2006, to be delivered in time for the launch of Nintendo's new Wii console.<br /><br />This gave Monolith around nine months to finish <em>Disaster</em>, but by the time the deadline had rolled around, the game still felt incomplete and had very few Wiimote-related functions -- instead, it used the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/classic-controller">Classic Controller</a>. Nintendo temporarily halted the project in October or November of 2006, only for work to begin again in early 2007; at this point, the entire game was revamped to include more waggle.<br /><br />Getting to peek behind the development curtain is always intriguing -- we're just glad everything worked out for the game in the end.<br /><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.nintendoeverything.com/?p=4328">Nintendo Everything</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/01/disasters-disastrous-development-detailed/">Disaster's disastrous development detailed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Oct 2008 20:10:00 EST. Oh, man. Listen, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/day-of-crisis-not-a-total-disaster/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> is a game we've been waiting on for a long, long time. We like the idea. We like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/disaster-day-of-awesome-trailers/">what we've seen</a>. We even like this video (showing off nine minutes of opening gameplay, including the intro movie), despite the questionable YouTube quality. It looks pretty decent and more than playable. We daresay it could even be <em>fun</em>. But the dialogue is a little <em>lacking</em>.<br /><br />Okay. Let's get real: it's repetitive, unrealistic, and silly. But hey, we're used to less-than-stellar game writing, and <em>Disaster</em> has one thing going for it at the start: a hero with an indestructible noggin -- and that's all any action game really needs, right?<br />

</center>Two trailers for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/04/disaster-day-of-crisis-hits-japanese-shelves-on-sept-25/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> are now available on the Japanese Nintendo Channel. The first, above, does an excellent job of channeling American action movies, which is good for something that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/you-are-the-star-of-disaster-day-of-crisis/">purports</a> to put the player <em>in</em> one. It's got a brooding hero, stern-voiced narration from some kind of military official, and explosions all over the damn place. The second trailer combines the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/12/disaster-qtes-of-crisis/">gameplay footage</a> we've seen with a bit more context, which basically means walking around. Presented this way, it seems a bit less like a collection of disconnected events. <br /><br />We don't mind saying that these trailers have <span style="font-style: italic;">worked.</span> We could really stand to hear about a US release.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/disaster-day-of-awesome-trailers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Disaster: Day of Awesome Trailers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/disaster-day-of-awesome-trailers/">Disaster: Day of Awesome Trailers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Sep 2008 18:12:00 EST. As is usually the case with <a href="http://www.qj.net/Disaster-Day-of-Crisis-delayed-indefinitely/pg/49/aid/120217">oft-delayed</a> titles, details concerning the mystery-shrouded <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Disaster%3A%20Day%20of%20Crisis">Disaster: Day of Crisis</a> </em>have been slim indeed. Thankfully, the <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/rdzj/action/index.html">official Japanese site for the disastrous survival game</a> recently added a few explanations on how you'll be guiding <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/11/humans-arent-helpless-in-disaster-day-of-crisis/">optimistic protagonist Raymond Bryce</a> through his very own <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_and_the_Terrible,_Horrible,_No_Good,_Very_Bad_Day">terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day</a>.<br /><br />According to <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2008/09/12/how-to-survive-disaster-day-of-crisis/">a translation from Siliconera</a>, the combat portion of the title plays like a light gun shooter with a <em>Time Crisis</em>-esque cover system. However, you'll need to bust out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/10/wii-impressions-warioware-smooth-moves/">your best <em>Smooth Moves</em></a> to make it through the motion-sensitive survival segments, furiously shaking your Wiimote to <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/39963.html?r=1&amp;type=wmv">outrun a tidal wave, push a bus, perform CPR</a> or place an irate phone call to <a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22316122/">a puzzlingly absent FEMA</a>. We'll have to wait on reactions from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/02/disaster-day-of-crisis-officially-looming-in-uk/">our Eastern Hemisphere acquaintences</a> to see how these two great tastes taste together.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/13/disaster-day-of-crisis-survival-guide-explains-gameplay/">Disaster: Day of Crisis survival guide explains gameplay</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 13 Sep 2008 13:30:00 EST. Imagine our surprise when we heard that Nintendo of Japan plans to release <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disaster-day-of-crisis/">Disaster: Day of Crisis</a> </em>on September 25th. After hearing barely <em>anything</em> about the game for months, including a no-show at E3 and PAX, we were incredibly doubtful the game would release this calendar year, yet alone <em>at all</em>. But, sure enough, the official Nintendo of Japan website has it listed. <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/schedule/index.html">Right here</a>.<br /><br />So with a Japanese release ironed out and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/02/disaster-day-of-crisis-officially-dated-in-europe/">the European release date</a> for October 24th set in stone, when can North America expect the game? We've contacted Nintendo and are awaiting word. As soon as we get it, we'll update the post.<br /><br />
<br />[Via <a href="http://wiiz.fr/article.php?a=19669">Wiiz</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/04/disaster-day-of-crisis-hits-japanese-shelves-on-sept-25/">Disaster: Day of Crisis hits Japanese shelves on Sept. 25</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Sep 2008 14:33:00 EST. While cruising around Konami's booth at E3, I saw <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lost-in-blue-shipwrecked/">Lost in Blue: Shipwrecked</a> </em>and, honestly, wasn't too excited to play it. Once the demo person showed me exactly what was up with the demo (a variety of minigames and the main Survivor mode), the title grew on me a tad, but, overall, failed to leave me with the impression that it could provide a lengthy, worthwhile experience.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/e308-wii-fanboy-survives-lost-in-blue-shipwrecked/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E308: Wii Fanboy survives Lost in Blue: Shipwrecked</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/e308-wii-fanboy-survives-lost-in-blue-shipwrecked/">E308: Wii Fanboy survives Lost in Blue: Shipwrecked</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 Jul 2008 20:00:00 EST. If you could take only one item with you to a deserted island, what would it be? If you answered <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/21/lost-in-blue-to-wash-ashore-this-fall/">Lost in Blue: Shipwrecked</a></em>, that's pretty funny. The "only one item" rule prohibits taking a Wii with you to play it on -- not to mention the whole lack of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/21/wii-power-consumption-almost-immeasurable/">electricity</a> thing.<br /><br />Take a look at the latest screens in the gallery and make your choice. Is this really the game you'd want to have with you? You can <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-blue/864111/">shear sheep</a>, watch your pets put on a show and even do some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-blue/864112/">skipping</a>. Not the most productive tasks when stranded, but it can't be all <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/14/how-ultimate-is-ultimate-duck-hunting/">hunting</a> and gathering.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/16/shipwrecked-with-more-screens/">Shipwrecked with more screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 16 Jun 2008 14:00:00 EST. Blurry <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/15/lost-in-blurriness/">English screens</a> were a big indication that <em>Lost in Blue</em>: <span style="font-style: italic;">Shipwrecked! </span>was being localized outside of Japan, and Konami already announced a fall target for the game in North America. The company recently offered a European projection as well, though. Apparently, PAL nations (perhaps not Australia) can expect <em>Shipwrecked!</em> in the fall, too, along with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/03/more-lost-in-blue-3-info-and-screens-surface/">the third title in the DS series</a>.<br /><br />Famitsu also has some new screens for the game, which may not be blurry but definitely don't live up to the Wii's graphical powers. As for the gameplay, the images give you a sense of what kind of survival activities <em>Lost in Blue</em> will demand from you, and reveal a cute mouse-like creature that the castaways seem to befriend. Just click on past the break if you'd like to take a look.<br /><br />

<br />One of three things is happening:<br />
<ol>
    <li><em>Lost in Blue</em> on the Wii is <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-blue/807714/full/">actually</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-blue/807713/full/">this</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-blue/807712/full/">blurry</a></em>.</li>
    <li>Our sight is finally going from spending too long looking at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/24/more-risque-pictures-from-doki-doki-majo-shinpan-duo-appear/"><em>Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo</em></a> screenshots. Mother said it would happen!<br /></li>
    <li>Somebody broke in overnight and maliciously <em>slathered</em> our monitors in Vaseline.<br /></li>
</ol>
As it stands, those are the only three explanations we can muster for these blur-o-rific <em>Lost in Blue</em> screens, the first English language shots to appear. They actually look a little better shrunk down (see above), but the same can't be said for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-blue/807721/full/">full-size versions</a>. Are we being harsh by suggesting those smudgy textures recall the dreaded Nintendo 64 fuzz? We only criticize because we want this to be just right!<br /><br />
<br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/15/lost-in-blurriness/">Lost in Blurriness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 May 2008 14:00:00 EST. <br />Some awesome ideas coupled with mediocre execution: that's the story of <em>Lost in Blue</em> so far. Hopefully the potential of the series will be realized now that Konami has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/01/lost-in-blue-changes-consoles/#comments">shifted development</a> from the DS to the Wii, and these scans, extracted from the pages of <em>CoroCoro </em>magazine, are a promising start.<br /><br />If you've played any of the <em>Lost in Blue</em> games on the DS, much of what appears in these screens will look comfortingly familiar -- dislodging coconuts from trees, starting fires, cooking with rudimentary tools -- but there appears to be the odd new feature as well; for instance, we don't recall a <em>dog</em> being in any of the DS games (though feel free to correct us there). <em>Resident Evil</em> fansite The Horror is Alive caused a minor stir yesterday by posting a <a href="http://the-horror.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&amp;threadid=1683">phonecam pic of the purported box art</a> for a "Classic Edition" remake of <em>Resident Evil 4</em> for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The rumor got picked up by <a href="http://palgn.com.au/article.php?id=10884&amp;sid=2846f4f25ff4ad882d12262b7697b9be&amp;title=RUMOUR%3A+Resident+Evil+4%3A+Classic+Edition+on+the+way%3F">a</a> <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=263395">variety</a> <a href="http://www.n4g.com/News-127725.aspx">of</a> <a href="http://www.gemaga.com/2008/03/26/resident-evil-4-classic-edition-coming-to-xbox-360-playstation-3">gaming</a> <a href="http://www.simplygaming.info/2008/03/26/resident-evil-4-classic-edition-for-xbox-360-and-ps3/">sites</a> -- including a <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/03/25/re4-coming-to-360-or-april-fools-photoshop/">somewhat incredulous Xbox 360 Fanboy</a> -- and THIA followed it up today with supposed <a href="http://the-horror.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&amp;threadid=1687">hi-res shots of the box art</a>, adding further fuel to the fire.<br /><br />Enter Capcom with a rumor-dousing fire blanket. Writing on Capcom's community forums, Vice President Christian Svennson <a href="http://www.capcom.com/BBS/showpost.php?p=500584&amp;postcount=3">said outright</a> that there are "no plans for <em>RE4</em> on 360 or PS3 at this time." Of course, that's exactly what he<em> would</em> say if there was a super-secret remake that Capcom just wasn't ready to announce yet. We'll take him at his word though, mostly because we hope the company is focusing its resources on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/RE5"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a> at this point. Besides, how many more remakes of a three-year-old game do we need exactly?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/26/capcom-debunks-rumors-of-re4-on-ps3-360/">Capcom debunks rumors of RE4 on PS3, 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Mar 2008 13:00:00 EST. If you weren't working your butt off in order to ensure your own survival, you were probably leading a vision-impaired girl around the island or doing some other sort of menial task. <br /><br />Gamers don't necessarily mind doing "chores" in games -- if so, titles like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/harvest-moon"><em>Harvest Moon</em></a> wouldn't exist. The work and play needs to be at least somewhat balanced, though, for a game to succeed.<br /><br />Fortunately, it seems like Konami has come to realize this, and the third installment of the series will show improvement over its predecessors (and not just <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/14/lost-in-blue-adapts-to-survive/">artistically</a>). A new game page for the title claims that time will be equally spent exploring the island for fun and ... well ... doing <em>survival</em> stuff. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lost-in-blue-3/"><em>Lost in Blue 3</em></a> will also include over twenty minigames if you're looking for other ways to break up your daily tasks.<br /><br />There will be four playable characters in the game. You choose one character at the beginning to control throughout, and that person's attributes will affect the gameplay (this is something we've see before, but this time you get more characters to choose from). All in all, we think <em>Lost in Blue 3</em> is shaping up nicely and might be the best game in the series yet. To check out some news screens of the upcoming survival sim (which will be released in America this month on the 18th), make sure you check out the gallery below.<br /><br /><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=183768">CVG</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/03/more-lost-in-blue-3-info-and-screens-surface/">More Lost in Blue 3 info and screens surface</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Mar 2008 19:00:00 EST. Gamefly has always been a great source for finding out about new games, and thanks to some sleuthing from the folks at Siliconera, another one may have been revealed.<br /><br />According to a listing on the game rental site, Konami's DS series <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lostinblue"><em>Lost in Blue</em></a> might be jumping ship to the Wii. As Levi points out, the game can be an even better fit on the Wii than it was on the DS. While the DS is a great system for adventure games, the Wiimote might make the minigame portions of the title more fun and less tedious. Furthermore, we've already seen that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/16/wii-fanboy-review-zack-and-wiki/">point-and-click works well</a> on the Wii, so <em>Lost in Blue</em> has the potential to become a welcome addition on the little white console.<br /><br />We know that a lot of you are fans of the quirky survival series, so what are <em>your</em> thoughts on this rumor?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2008/01/28/lost-in-blue-washing-ashore-on-wii/">Siliconera</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/lost-in-blue-possibly-landing-on-the-wii/">Lost in Blue possibly landing on the Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Jan 2008 22:30:00 EST. Konami has changed the art style used for the character portraits, from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/20/lost-in-lost-in-blue-2-screens/">normal human proportions</a> to more of a <em>chibi </em>look. In fact, the simplified characters look more like the <a href="http://avatar.livedoor.com/">avatars</a> found on Japanese <a href="http://avatar.livedoor.com/">livedoor</a> blogs than anything else. Hopefully the change in appearance won't ruin the grave atmosphere of the game during those <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/01/commune-with-your-fellow-mammals-in-lost-in-blue-3/">dolphin chats</a>.<br /><br /><em>We </em>would be surprised if we got a deluxe pack for the game like Japan is getting on the 20th. The <em>Survival Kids Original Gloves and Towel Compressed Set</em> includes -- you guessed it -- a towel and some gloves. We're guessing that they're vacuum-sealed and compressed like those <a href="http://www.promoslogos.com/page/srz/PROD/tshirt1/CTS-football">football-shaped t-shirts</a>. The idea, we think, is for you to be able to fit them into a bag in case you encounter a survival situation requiring ... a towel and some gloves. At the very least, a tiny, compressed towel would make it easier for you to identify as a <a href="http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=A+really+hoopy+frood">hoopy frood</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=31529">GoNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/14/lost-in-blue-adapts-to-survive/">Lost in Blue adapts to survive</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Dec 2007 10:30:00 EST. They starred in a television special in December of last year called <em>Mujintou Seikatsu</em> (<em>Deserted Island Life</em>) in which the two of them survived on an island for three days. That sounds like a perfectly reasonable basis for a minigame collection, right?<br /><br />Namco Bandai assessed the situation similarly, and thus <em>Tottado!~ Yoiko no Mujintou Seikatsu</em> <em>(Yoiko's Deserted Island Life</em>) was born. The<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/minigames/"> minigames</a> involve survival-related tasks -- building and maintaining a shelter, catching fish, and cooking -- with lots of <em>wacky comedy faces.</em> "I caught a fish <em>WACKY COMEDY FACE!"<br /><br /></em>We don't need to tell you how likely we think this is to leave Japan.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/10/game-center-cxs-arino-returns-to-the-ds/">Game Center CX's Arino returns to the DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Dec 2007 09:50:00 EST. Our first reaction is to be <em>outraged</em>. We love our system and we love <em>Silent Hill</em> and its atmospheric, psychological horror storytelling.<br /><br />But would we actually love them together? The larger <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dsd">question</a> here extends beyond the boundaries of one foggy town: is the DS an appropriate format for survival horror? We had one outing already in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/02/08/meta-review-resident-evil-deadly-silence/">Resident Evil: Deadly Silence</a>,</em> which a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/bloggers/david-hinkle">very trustworthy source</a> tells us <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/17/ds-fanboy-favorites-daves-top-five/">wasn't an entirely successful experiment</a>. <br /><br />Alternately, if the major discussion topic doesn't interest you, we can just talk about<em> Silent Hill</em> and how great it is.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/21/ds-daily-survival-horror/">DS Daily: Survival horror</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 21 Apr 2007 10:00:00 EST. Announced almost a year ago, the first installment in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/09/penumbra-indie-horror-adventure-makes-its-overture/"><em>Penumbra: Overture</em></a> episodic trilogy has finally been unleashed. The horror adventure title relies on a proprietary physics engine that allows you to pick up and manipulate almost any object. Combat plays a small role in <em>Overture</em>, but you'll spend most of your time tip-toeing around corners and squealing every time you hear a noise. It's a genuinely creepy game.<br /><br />While <em>Penumbra</em> manages to take a fresh approach to the 3D survival genre, the price and the game's length don't quite agree with each other. The first episode will take you less than three hours to complete, and with a price tag of $19.99, it feels a little steep. The game has remarkably high production value for an independent studio, making the cost a little more bearable. Just think of the warm fuzzy feeling you'll get when you support the little guy.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/03/penumbra-overture-makes-its-creepy-debut/">Penumbra: Overture makes its creepy debut</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Apr 2007 10:56:00 EST. Gamers who were motivated enough to put down a cash advance for the survival sim's sequel will receive a themed stylus and screen wipe. <br /><br />The <em>Lost in Blue 2</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/stylus">stylus</a> is crafted to look like a twig, but we doubt that it'd be useful for actually starting a fire if you happen to get stranded on a deserted island. The tip of the stylus does light up though, so at least you'll have its weak glow to comfort you for a night or two. The tropical screen wipe isn't as useful as a hatchet, but it will keep the sand off of your Nintendo DS. Notably, players can choose to navigate the game as either the male or female character, and Jack and Amy each have their own unique skills. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/23/lost-in-blue-2/">Previously</a>, we thought the setup was similar to the original <em>Lost in Blue</em>, with the girl serving as an unplayable character (at least, until you beat it once). Also, the sequel will feature a limited two-player mode via local wireless, in which players can compete in survival mini-games. We're hoping for things like "Outrun the Croc" so we can watch our pals brutally eaten. That's just good, clean fun.<br /><br />Once again, the touch screen and microphone will be a big part of the game, but Konami promises to expand on touchscreen play for a more immersive and interesting experience. Let's hope for less drudgery and more fun.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/05/new-lost-in-blue-2-details-and-screens/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Lost in Blue 2 details and screens</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/05/new-lost-in-blue-2-details-and-screens/">New Lost in Blue 2 details and screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 05 Feb 2007 17:55:00 EST. This new <span style="font-style: italic;">Lost in Blue 2</span> trailer captures the essence of the game by blending tranquil shots of scenery with a few surprises, like a spider leaping <em>onto your face.</em> We really could have done without that last one. Time to start sharpening some spears!<br /><br />The new trailer, fresh from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tgs2006">Tokyo Game Show</a>, is embedded after the jump. We hope to pick up a few survival tips ... maybe we can even figure out a way to escape from the dungeon that is the Fanboy office. Their fresh and innovative view of games and this industry as a whole has impressed us time and time again. Plus, they seem to be female friendly seeing as how their US office was headed by a woman named <a href="http://www.ubisoftgroup.com/index.php?p=63&amp;art_id=">Christine Burgess-Qu&eacute;mard</a> and they are also the parents of the lovable, kick ass gaming team, the <a href="http://www.fragdolls.com/us/">Frag Dolls</a>. </p>
<p>Something else Ubisoft is doing to make us like them more is develop awesome Wii games. <em>Rayman Raving Rabbids</em>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/11/splinter-cell-coming-to-the-wii/">Splinter Cell</a></em>, <em>Far Cry</em> and their newest take on earthquakes and how to survive them -- <em>Alive</em>.</p>
<p>Not much has been revealed about <em>Alive</em> and it was only recently confirmed by Yves Guillemot in an interview with International Herald Tribune. <em>Alive</em> doesn't focus so much on shooting as it does on character survival. How this is going to attract more female gamers we aren't certain but it is definitely something to find out.</p>

<ul>
    <li><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em> (Monolith); survival-action - Natural disasters have devastated the US. A rogue Special Forces unit has taken advantage and stolen a nuclear weapon. As Ray, a former rescue task force badass, you must save the world, or at least, what's left of your country. <em>Disaster</em> will feature scenarios like lava avalanches, earthquakes, and floods.<br /> </li>
    <li><em> Excite Truck</em> (Monster Games); racing - It's descended from <em>Excitebike</em>, at least conceptually. The game features off-road racing (with trucks). Players hold the Wiimote like an NES controller and steer by titling it from side to side. Once airborne, tilt the controller in the right directions to stick the landing. Power-ups are used to deform the tracks in real time.</li>
    <li><em> Project H.A.M.M.E.R.</em> - Killer robots are attacking the US. In order to defeat your heartless foes, you must assume the role of one of Project H.A.M.M.E.R.'s cyborg prototypes and wield the awesome powers of ... a hammer? Swing away!</li>
    <li><em> Wii Sports</em> (Nintendo); sports - Includes tennis (1-4 players), baseball (1-2 players), and golf (1 player) -- Nintendo may add additional games. Tennis features power-sensitive forehands, backhands, volleys, lobs, slices, spins and serves (note: players are automatically moved into position to hit the ball). Baseball is simply a home run derby game. In 2-player mode, one player pitches, while the other bats. Golf features both driving and putting.</li>
</ul>
