Tank! Tank!, Namco Bandai opted for a free-to-play approach, releasing a segment of the game free on the eShop and selling the rest of it as microtransactions. Following the European retail launch, Namco has announced plans to re-release the game as F2P in that region as well.

The base download will include Monster Battle, Free-For-All, and Team Versus modes, playable up to three times. The first add-on includes the entertaining My Kong mode, temporarily discounted 80% to €1.99 /£1.59 through February 28.

While the piecemeal sale may not be ideal, a free demo is. We strongly suggest trying before you buy.
Tank! Tank! Tank!, I think, is that it's fun to crush your friends' faces. Or blast them. Either one works. Tank Tank Tank (henceforth rendered without exclamation points), allows its players to photograph themselves with the Wii U GamePad. These photos come complete with carnival-style cutouts (military helmets, pirate hats, tiger faces, etc), and once the photo is taken, the images are attached to each player's in-game tank.

It's a simple feature, but significantly adds to Tank Tank Tank's limited level of entertainment. Without it, you'd just be blasting tanks and monsters. With it, you're blasting the snarling face of your brother-in-law wearing a lucha libre mask.

Gallery: Tank! Tank! Tank! may not be what I would have shown off at E3 with innovative new hardware. It's fun in a profoundly goofy, vintage-arcadey way, but it's hardly pushing any new ideas or making any graphical leaps. In fact, it's not even a new game -- it was originally released as an arcade cabinet in 2009.

It doesn't make particularly interesting use of the WiiPad, either. In the demo shown in Nintendo's booth, one player saw the action from behind their own tank, while up to four other players could play on the TV with Wiimotes -- after everyone passed the WiiPad around to snap avatar portraits. The gameplay was the same -- even the view was the same -- just on another screen.

Gallery: Tank!
