An enhanced version of last year's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-or-alive-5"><em>Dead or Alive 5</em></a>, dubbed <em>Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate</em>, will fight its way onto the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at some point in the future, according to a story at <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2013/05/07/dead-or-alive-ultimate-5-announced-for-xbox-360-and-ps3/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+siliconera%2FMkOc+%28Siliconera%29">Siliconera</a>. The announcement, made in the pages of the latest issue of Famitsu, states that Ninja Gaiden's <a href="http://deadoralive.wikia.com/wiki/Momiji">Momiji</a> will be added as a playable fighter.<br />
<br />
Momiji's inclusion in a new Dead or Alive project was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/29/new-dead-or-alive-5-project-announced-ninja-gaidens-momiji-tea/">teased</a> during a Japanese tournament late last month. We've reached out to Tecmo Koei for more information and will update with anything we learn regarding North American and European plans.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/07/rumor-dead-or-alive-5-ultimate-coming-to-ps3-360/">Rumor: Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate coming to PS3/360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 May 2013 19:45:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fatal-frame-2"><em>Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly</em></a> will <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/05/02/fatal-frame-2-hits-psn-tuesday-series-director-speaks/">arrive on PlayStation Network</a> next Tuesday. Upping the ante on the original <em>Fatal Frame</em>'s haunted mansion, <em>Fatal Frame 2</em> stars a pair of twins investigating an entire haunted village. The series' trademark Camera Obscura returns, allowing players to exorcise evil, terrifying spirits merely by taking their picture. The catch: The closer the ghost is, the more damage it takes and the more points you get for upgrading the camera.<br />
<br />
In other words, if you want to be really good at Fatal Frame, you'll have to be willing to scare yourself as much as possible. The original <em>Fatal Frame</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/07/fatal-frame-snaps-a-selfie-on-psn-this-week/">came to PSN last month</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/02/fatal-frame-2-comes-into-focus-on-psn-next-week/">Fatal Frame 2 comes into focus on PSN next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 May 2013 16:15:00 EST. Her brother, who shares her powers, goes missing, and Miku tracks him to a derelict mansion. There, she picks up her mother's Camera Obscura, a device that captures souls on film, and must navigate out of the mansion while still searching for her brother.<br /><br />Be on the lookout for <em>Fatal Frame</em>'s official announcement in the PSN drop this week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/07/fatal-frame-snaps-a-selfie-on-psn-this-week/">Fatal Frame snaps a selfie on PSN this week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 07 Apr 2013 16:30:00 EST. The news comes via a <a href="http://www.sparkunlimited.com/jobs_currentjobs.html">batch of job listings</a> for developer Spark Unlimited (which is also handling <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/lost-planet-3"><em>Lost Planet 3</em></a>), which identify Yaiba as "a bold new take on 3rd Person slasher with Horror elements for the PS3 and Xbox 360."<br /><br />So there you have it, any fears (hopes?) that Yaiba would debut only on the next generation of consoles have been cut down like a cybernetic zombie ninja.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/24/yaiba-ninja-gaiden-z-will-slice-its-way-to-xbox-and-ps3/">Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z will slice its way to Xbox and PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 24 Dec 2012 12:00:00 EST. The listing gives it a price of $4.99 and a December 6 launch date, though <em>Ninja Gaiden</em> was originally slated to launch on the 3DS Virtual Console back in November.<br /><br />The latest installment in the series, <em>Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge</em>, just launched on the Wii U. The technical excellence of the 2004's <em>Ninja Gaiden</em> was one-upped in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ninja-gaiden-sigma"><em>Ninja Gaiden Sigma</em></a>. <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/ninja-gaiden-2"><em>Ninja Gaiden 2</em></a> was improved dramatically in <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/ninja-gaiden-sigma-2"><em>Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2</em></a>. <em>Razor's Edge</em> carries that trend forward into the series' latest entry, with surprising results. It's one thing to turn a great game into an even better one, but to turn a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/27/ninja-gaiden-3-review/">once-terrible game</a> into a launch lineup highlight? Impossible!<br /><br />Apparently not. Team Ninja cuts liberally from <em>Ninja Gaiden 3</em> in <em>Razor's Edge</em>, stripping away everything from the obnoxious "steel on bone" QTE-style button mashery to the multitude of joy-killing sequences in which players guide a stumbling, curse-afflicted Ryu through neutered enemy encounters. Even the questionable presentation is erased, exemplified by an early moment that forces Ryu, and thus the player, to murder a man in cold blood as he pleads for his life. This insufferable moment has been excised from <em>Razor's Edge</em>, and for that we can all be thankful.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ninja-gaiden-3-razor-s-edge-9-13-12/">Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge (9/13/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ninja-gaiden-3-razor-s-edge-9-13-12/#5283565"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/wiiung3rescrn01wp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ninja-gaiden-3-razor-s-edge-9-13-12/#5283566"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/wiiung3rescrn02wp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ninja-gaiden-3-razor-s-edge-9-13-12/#5283567"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/wiiung3rescrn03wp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ninja-gaiden-3-razor-s-edge-9-13-12/#5283568"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/wiiung3rescrn04wp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ninja-gaiden-3-razor-s-edge-9-13-12/#5283569"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/wiiung3rescrn05wp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/21/ninja-gaiden-3-razors-edge-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge review: Sharpened</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/21/ninja-gaiden-3-razors-edge-review/">Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge review: Sharpened</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Nov 2012 11:00:00 EST. There's no mention of what costumes are being included, or of them coming to PSN in other regions on the same date.<br /><br />The initial <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/02/dead-or-alive-5-first-costume-pack-free-on-xblm-now-psn-later-t/">free costume pack</a> dropped worldwide on October 2, then <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/16/dead-or-alive-5s-new-costume-packs-include-fiend-hayabusa-cat/">a slew of packs</a> arrived two days ago, two weeks after the first pack. We'd say logic takes us to another round of costume packs for North America's XBLM and PSN on October 30, but we know better than to apply rational thinking to a Dead or Alive game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/18/dead-or-alive-5s-third-set-of-costumes-hits-psn-in-japan-octobe/">Dead or Alive 5's third set of costumes hits PSN in Japan October 30</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Oct 2012 15:20:00 EST. Oh, you can make a qualitative judgment - observe that it somehow manages to be a train wreck, a plane wreck and a car crash all in one. It's like watching all combustible vehicles on Earth hurtle into each other at a singular point of stupidity, and then burning in the consequent fireball of awkward, unintentional comedy.<br /><br />But we survive, insulated by apathy. It's not the first time we've <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/12/inafunes-yaiba-combines-zombies-with-ninjas-and-mechs/">heard of the game</a>, but it <em>is</em> the first time we've seen the full title. As it implies, it is a spin-off of the Ninja Gaiden series. The game focuses on ninjas and the undead, with Inafune admitting he's a big fan of zombies (Dead Rising, anyone?). The collaboration represents a "dream come true" for Inafune, to create a game featuring both zombies <em>and</em> ninjas. It's hard to argue with the assertion.<br /><br />The project represents a chance for Inafune to make the kinds of games he really wants to make, he said. Referring to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/20/keiji-inafune-remains-critical-of-japanese-games-deems-even-cap/">comments</a> Inafune made saying the Japanese industry was dying, he said "we are going to survive and make good games that will lead the Japanese game industry."<br /><br />The game tells the story of Yaiba, who's only mission in his undead life, it seems, is to take revenge on Ryu Hayabusa, star of the Ninja Gaiden series. <em>Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z</em>, is currently in development for "consoles."<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Fresh from Japan, feast on this <em>Yaiba</em> trailer.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/yaiba-ninja-gaiden-z/">Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/yaiba-ninja-gaiden-z/#5300365"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/yaibangz01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/yaiba-ninja-gaiden-z/#5300366"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/yaibangz02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/yaiba-ninja-gaiden-z/#5300367"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/yaibangz03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/yaiba-ninja-gaiden-z/#5300368"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/yaibangz04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/yaiba-ninja-gaiden-z/#5300369"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/yaibangz05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/19/yaiba-ninja-gaiden-z-a-partnership-between-keiji-inafunes-comc/">Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z a partnership between Keiji Inafune's Comcept and Team Ninja [update: trailer!]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Sep 2012 07:01:00 EST. One year on, they've done it again with (the unofficial) <a href="http://tecmobowl.org/_/tecmo-news/yearly-tecmo-releases/tecmobowlorg-presents-tecmo-super-bowl-2013-r110"><em>Tecmo Super Bowl 2013</em></a>, featuring NFL teams and players fully up-to-date as of September 2. It's like one of those roster updates for <em>Madden NFL 13</em>, except for a 21-year-old NES classic.<br /><br />It's surely an insane and time-draining undertaking to update<i> Tecmo Super Bowl </i>like this, let alone do it for two years running. If that inspires you to join in with the retro-current football fun, all you need is an emulator and the ROM file, and both can be found at <a href="http://tecmobowl.org/forum/files/download/247-tecmobowlorg-presents-tecmo-super-bowl-2013/">TecmoBowl.org</a>. Oh, and not a single measly dime because it's free.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/06/tecmo-super-bowl-2013-gives-classic-game-up-to-date-nfl-rosters/">Tecmo Super Bowl 2013 gives classic game up-to-date NFL rosters</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 14:00:00 EST. Nintendo apparently added Tecmo's spooktacular franchise to its list of copyrights. Furthermore, it appears that Nintendo wholly owns the IP for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/13/spirit-camera-the-cursed-memoir-review/"><em>Spirit Camera</em></a>, the Fatal Frame spin-off recently released on the 3DS. The company also has ownership and publishing rights for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/22/project-zero-2-fatal-frame-2-to-terrify-european-wii-owners/"><em>Project Zero 2: Wii Edition</em></a>, which is slated to hit Europe later this year (still no North American announcement for that one).<br /><br />Nintendo has been tied to the Fatal Frame series for a few years now, publishing the two Fatal Frame games mentioned above as well as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fatal-frame-4"><em>Fatal Frame 4</em></a>, which was never released outside of Japan. Given Nintendo's penchant for extra screens, and Fatal Frame's reliance on capturing ghosts with cameras, the partnership makes sense. Depending on how you feel about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/09/mortal-kombat-dreams-up-freddy-krueger-trailer-tv-spot/">Freddy Krueger surprises</a>, this could be an important revelation.<br /><br />Team Ninja head Yosuke Hayashi says there are no plans to offer post-launch character DLC in <em>Dead or Alive 5</em>. In fact, he thinks the practice wreaks havoc on the balance of the game - essential in any good fighter. "Even with over 20 characters that's still a real challenge," Hayashi tells <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/xbox360/doa5/news/dlc_characters_make_fighting_games_unfair_says_doa5_dev.html">Videogamer</a>. "If we had 50, how much more time would need to balance the game? It gets that much harder to get it right, and it's already very difficult to get right."<br /><br />Hayashi also doesn't like the idea of different players with different character rosters. "It's a similar thing to if certain people have all these characters and others don't. It makes it an unfair game, and we don't think that's the right way to go for fighting games."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/20/team-ninjas-hayashi-says-no-plans-for-dead-or-alive-5-charact/">Team Ninja's Hayashi says 'no plans' for Dead or Alive 5 character DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Jun 2012 23:59:00 EST. It attempted to give Ninja Gaiden's Ryu Hayabusa <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/18/hayashi-ninja-gaiden-3s-dismemberment-free-gameplay-adds-meani/">a softer side</a>, for one. Only two months ago, Team Ninja head Yosuke Hayashi said <em>Dead or Alive 5</em> will <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/14/hayashi-team-ninja-taming-its-sex-and-violence-image-in-doa-5/">rise beyond</a> "sex and violence," instead pursing "a direction that contains emotional experiences that can move players."<br /><br />Now, in an interview with <a href="http://www.famitsu.com/news/201204/29014056.html">Famitsu</a>, Hayashi has now revealed that <em>Dead or Alive 5</em>'s voluptuous vixens will feature costume-specific breast physics. Furthermore, each costume will have varying levels of transparency. It <em>sounds</em> like a contradiction to Hayashi's previous statements ... that is, of course, until you realize that "move" is a very ambiguous term.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/01/dead-or-alive-5-has-costume-specific-breast-physics/">Dead or Alive 5 has costume-specific breast physics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 May 2012 21:00:00 EST. While Silent Hill encourages (and occasionally forces) me to run away from its horrors, Fatal Frame has always required me to not only face my fears, but to do so for as long as my nerves can take it. With a ghost-killing camera as my only weapon, I learn that the best photographs deal the most damage - and the best photographs are <em>always</em> close-ups.<br /><br />It may not say so on the box, but <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/spirit-camera-the-cursed-memoir"><em>Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir</em></a> is indeed a Fatal Frame game, one that puts an augmented reality spin on the traditional, heart-taxing action. Unfortunately, in bringing Fatal Frame to the camera-equipped 3DS, <em>Spirit Camera</em> takes the series where it was never meant to go: your well-lit living room.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fun-with-spirit-camera/">Fun with Spirit Camera</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fun-with-spirit-camera/#4962886"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/hni0007_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fun-with-spirit-camera/#4962887"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/hni0009_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fun-with-spirit-camera/#4962888"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/hni0010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fun-with-spirit-camera/#4962889"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/hni0013_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/13/spirit-camera-the-cursed-memoir-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir review: Behind you!</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/13/spirit-camera-the-cursed-memoir-review/">Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir review: Behind you!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Apr 2012 18:30:00 EST. And yes, you also read that right -- <em>Pokemon Conquest</em> marks the second Pokemon game heading to the DS in 2012 rather than the 3DS (<em>Pokemon Black/White Version 2</em> being the other).<br /><br />Unlike main series Pokemon games, Tecmo Koei handled development rather than Game Freak. <em>Conquest</em> is also a 2D adventure set in the world of Ransei, where players inhabit "a young warlord who is linked with a Pokemon." <em>Pokemon Conquest</em> arrives on June 18.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pok-mon-conquest/">PokĂ©mon Conquest</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pok-mon-conquest/#4939256"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/viewmedia-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Pokémon Conquest" title="Pokémon Conquest" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pok-mon-conquest/#4939257"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/viewmedia_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/04/pokemon-conquest-brings-nobunagas-ambition-stateside-on-june/">'Pokemon Conquest' brings Nobunaga's Ambition stateside on June 18</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Apr 2012 09:00:00 EST. Complaints include the game's notorious difficulty being diminished, compromised AI and -- maybe, worst of all -- that it's boring.<br /><ul> <li> <a href="http://www.gameinformer.com/games/ninja_gaiden_3/b/xbox360/archive/2012/03/21/review.aspx">Game Informer</a> (<strong>60/100</strong>): "<em>Ninja Gaiden 3</em> is not a complete train wreck, but it does suffer from a multitude of problems. The action can be fast-paced and engaging at times, but many design decisions significantly bring down the experience. Dumbed-down A.I., a limited arsenal, the series' notoriously difficult camera, no inventory/currency system, and an incoherent story combine to make this the most disappointing title in the series."</li> <li> <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/ninja-gaiden-3/reviews/ninja-gaiden-3-review-6367332/">Gamespot</a> (<strong>55/100</strong>): "It does all the hard labor so that you don't have to. This forgettable action game may feed your bloodthirst, but the series' sharp edge has been dulled by Team Ninja's attempt to bring the master to the masses."</li> <li> <a href="http://www.gamesradar.com/ninja-gaiden-3-review/">Games Radar</a> (<span style="font-weight: bold;">3</span><strong>0/100</strong>): "<em>Ninja Gaiden 3</em> has completely missed the point of everything that made the series great. Challenging combat, weapon variety, engaging enemies and the series' legendary difficulty have all been cut out in favor of a bland story, flashy finish moves, screen nukes, and button mashing. If you found Ninja Gaiden's difficulty to be a barrier to entry, this game's accessibility won't make it a more attractive option. If anything, it'll leave newcomers wondering what all the fuss was about."</li> <li> <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/122/1221032p1.html">IGN</a> (<span style="font-weight: bold;">30</span><strong>/100</strong>): "<em>Ninja Gaiden 3</em> is a gash on the face of the franchise and one of the worst games the action genre has yet suffered. It has no consideration for its fans' wants or what a new audience may have enjoyed. It's a nightmare that's as easy as it is uninteresting, and it abandons what used to work for awful new ideas that don't work together. Under no circumstance should you ever waste your time on this self-indulgent and abysmal wreck. Nintendo of America skipped out on the Wii's <em>Fatal Frame 4</em>, but its 3DS sort-of sequel will be haunting our shores. This morning, Nintendo announced a North American release of <em>Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir</em>, dated for the super spooky Friday, April 13.<br />
<br />
In <em>Spirit Camera,</em> co-developed by Nintendo and Tecmo, players will use the 3DS as a virtual camera with which to help "Maya," a girl trapped in a creepy house. The game includes a 16-page "AR Book," which uses augmented reality to display movies and other special effects at certain points in the story. "In other moments," the announcement reads, "characters will emerge from the pages into the player's world via augmented reality in the form of evil spirits that attack from all directions." That's pretty scary for a paper insert!<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spirit-camera-the-cursed-memoir-3ds/">Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir (3DS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spirit-camera-the-cursed-memoir-3ds/#4757485"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/3dsspiritcamera0117121_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spirit-camera-the-cursed-memoir-3ds/#4757486"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/3dsspiritcamera0117122_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spirit-camera-the-cursed-memoir-3ds/#4757487"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/3dsspiritcamera0117123_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spirit-camera-the-cursed-memoir-3ds/#4757488"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/3dsspiritcamera0117124_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spirit-camera-the-cursed-memoir-3ds/#4757489"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/3dsspiritcamera0117125_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/17/fatal-frame-spinoff-spirit-camera-the-cursed-memoir-chills-3ds/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fatal Frame spinoff Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir chills 3DS in April</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/17/fatal-frame-spinoff-spirit-camera-the-cursed-memoir-chills-3ds/">Fatal Frame spinoff Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir chills 3DS in April</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Jan 2012 09:30:00 EST.
