Mega Mushrooms, Poison Mushrooms and other classics litter the floor of a standard match, each performing their expected function when walked on by a character. The results are, predictably, completely hilarious and wacky.<br /><br />Absorbing mushrooms (or other power-ups like Invincibility Stars) changes the dynamic of the match, as larger characters do more damage and smaller characters move more quickly, for instance. We asked Harada if balance was a consideration while designing Mushroom Battle mode, and he told us that breaking the traditional conventions of Tekken is what makes the mode so entertaining.<br /><br />At present, it is unknown whether the mode will be online-enabled - in fact, Harada was unable to answer any questions regarding the Wii U's online infrastructure - but we're sure to learn more over the coming months.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/22/tekken-tag-tournament-2-wii-u-edition-features-nintendo-themed/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition features Nintendo-themed 'Mushroom Battle' mode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 22 Sep 2012 19:30:00 EST. Specifically, the WiiPad's screen can be used to map out custom shortcuts to specific abilities, which can then be tapped in succession to perform combos.<br /><br />Series producer Katsuhiro Harada demonstrated the feature during a pre-<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tgs-2012/">Tokyo Game Show</a> event at Namco Bandai's headquarters in Shinagawa, Tokyo, wherein banks of on-screen buttons were pressed to activate moves that would normally require directional inputs and/or simultaneous button presses.<br /><br />If this sounds at all familiar, its because a similar system was implemented in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-or-alive-dimensions"><em>Dead or Alive Dimensions</em></a> on the 3DS, though from everything we saw it did not appear as though <em>TTT2</em>'s shortcuts can be used to perform entire combos with one button press, as is possible in <em>DOAD</em>.<br /><br />We asked Harada if WiiPad shortcuts will be available for use while fighting online, and he said that he wants that to be the case. He made it a point to mention, however, that some moves (such as the Electric Wind Godfist) will not be executable as shortcuts, and that a classically-skilled player will still have the advantage.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/22/touchscreen-controls-coming-to-tekken-tag-tournament-2-wii-u-ed/">Touchscreen controls coming to Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 22 Sep 2012 18:00:00 EST. Wave two, said to release sometime in February, pits Chun-Li vs. Hwoarang, Abel vs. Kazuya, Ryu vs. Yoshimitsu and Rufus vs. Julia, all of whom can be seen <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/25/street-fighter-x-tekken-minimates-coming-this-fall/#continued">after the break</a>. Namco is co-developing <em>Super Smash Bros</em>. for Wii U and 3DS with Nintendo, and the title is a "big priority for the company," Harada says.<br /><br />Namco has "a lot of people" from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/22/namcos-smash-bros-team-includes-tekken-tales-soulcalibur-sta/">many of its franchises</a> developing <em>Super Smash Bros</em>., but fans have been most curious about <em>Tekken </em>staff involvement in the new game, Harada says.<br /><br />"The fans, rather than asking about Tales or Gundam or some of our other franchises, the fans abroad saw Tekken as one of the key words and took off on that," he says. "We're not really sure at this moment but when thinking of the playerbase who is playing <em>Smash Bros.</em>, maybe <em>Tekken</em> characters is something they wouldn't want, so I've been pulling back on that a bit. But I don't know."<br /><br />One of Tekken's characters, Heihachi Mishima, has been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/06/playstation-all-stars-joined-by-heihachi-and-toro/">confirmed</a> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/playstation-all-stars-battle-royale"><em>PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale</em></a>, Sony's take on a <em>Smash Bros.</em>-style game. Namco's main staff is currently focused on finishing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tekken-tag-tournament-2"><em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em></a>, but it will support <em>Super Smash Bros</em>. in some capacity, Harada says. Heihachi Mishima from Namco Bandai's <em>Tekken</em> series, and Toro, cartoonish marketing feline for Sony Japan, have both been confirmed for launch (on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/06/playstation-all-stars-battle-royale-smashing-bros-on-oct-23-in/">October 23</a>) by Sony during an EVO 2012 presentation.<br /><br />In addition to the new characters, a new stage called Dojo has been revealed. Little's resume of <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095271/">slasher flicks</a> and <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113114/">Free Willy sequels</a>.<br /><br />No actors have been signed to the project as of yet, but Crystal Sky will be aiming at finding thespians that look like Tekken's characters, rather than attaching big-name stars. The production company will be aiming for a theatrical release in North America, although nothing has actually been decided in terms of distribution.<br /><br />In addition to <em>Tekken: Rise of the Tournament</em>, Crystal Sky Pictures is in the post-production stages of a <em>Baby Geniuses</em> trilogy and is also set to begin production on <em>Dracula: The 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse</em>. Can't make this stuff up.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/19/tekken-rise-of-the-tournament-coming-from-ong-bak-director-pr/">'Tekken: Rise of the Tournament' coming from Ong-bak director Prachya Pinkaew</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 May 2012 02:00:00 EST. Because, you see, he told Edge that <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/news/harada-tekken-will-never-have-paid-dlc-characters">no <em>Tekken</em> game will ever have DLC characters</a> at all.<br /><br />That's quite a pronouncement. He clarified that he doesn't have a problem with Capcom doing it, noting that their motives may be different from his. But Harada sees, he said, "the characters and their move sets as chess pieces - they are essential items necessary in the game and we would never sell any of those individually."<br /><br />That doesn't rule out DLC completely, as Harada added that vanity items that might be added to the game after the fact would likely come with a charge. Characters might also be added to a <em>Tekken</em> game in advance as pre-order incentives, as long as they could eventually be unlocked by all players in the game. But as for after-the-fact characters, you won't find any of those in <em>Tekken x Street Fighter</em> if Harada has his way.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/17/tekken-producer-harada-no-dlc-characters-for-us/">Tekken producer Harada: No DLC characters for us</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Apr 2012 15:30:00 EST. Wait a minute, that doesn't sound anything like when <em>Road Rules</em> went up against <em>The Real World</em>. We call shenanigans!<br /><br />If you want to be in <em>Cross Assault</em>, the above video is most likely not the way to do it. Instead we suggest you read <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/brelston/blog/2012/01/23/announcing_the_sfxt_cross_assault_reality_show">the official entry rules</a> a bit more closely, since Capcom is looking for a better representation of the fighting game community. You know, men and women who eat and sleep this stuff -- not dudes who just generally eat and sleep most of the time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/23/sf-x-tekken-reality-show-puts-the-spotlight-on-fighter-fans/">SF X Tekken reality show puts the spotlight on fighter fans</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Jan 2012 21:00:00 EST. The cross-over character cavalcade of fun that is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken"><em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em></a> continues to hemorrhage new fighters, albeit this time the announcement is somewhat less flashy (and far more unintentional) than previous roster reveals.<br />
<br />
A new screenshot uploaded to <em>SFXT</em>'s Xbox Live Marketplace page, upon close inspection, shows the portraits of Iron Fist veteran <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ling_Xiaoyu">Ling Xiaoyu</a> and Shadowloo head honcho <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M._Bison">M. Bison</a>, as seen in the <em>zoomed</em> and <em>enhanced</em> image above. This brings the game's character stable to an even 30 fighters, PS3/Vita exclusive peeps not included. We're excited about the prospect of psycho-crushing our foes once again, but we also can't help but be disappointed by <em>SFXT</em>'s severe lack of <a href="http://tekken.wikia.com/wiki/True_Ogre">snake-arm minotaurs</a> and <a href="http://tekken.wikia.com/wiki/Gon">farting dinosaurs</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/01/xiaoyu-and-m-bison-leaked-for-street-fighter-x-tekken/">Xiaoyu and M. Before this year's Spike TV Video Game Awards properly started, the event's pre-show debuted a live-action, non-gameplay trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tekken-tag-tournament-2"><em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em></a>. Aside from being well choreographed and remarkably stylish, the trailer offers little insight into the title other than the fact that it will be coming to unknown consoles sometime during the 2012 holiday season.<br />
<br />
<em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em> is already out in Japanese arcades, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/04/namco-bandai-announces-tekken-tag-tournament-2-field-tests-in-us/">five select North American arcades</a> across the country.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/10/tekken-tag-tournament-2-coming-to-consoles-holiday-2012/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2 coming to consoles 'Holiday 2012'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 10 Dec 2011 20:29:00 EST. "But wait," we hear you say from the other side of the Internet. "Isn't the American arcade scene dead? Haven't coin-op establishments gone the way of the dodo? What kind of fool do you take me for? Hey I'm talkin' to you!"<br />
<br />
Chill, friend! It's true that the American arcade is not as prolific as it once was, but the scene is far from dead. In fact, the U.S. of A.'s fighting game community has gone to great lengths to preserve its arcade heritage, and the scene is doing <em>so</em> well that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/namco-bandai">Namco Bandai</a> will be testing the latest entry in the Tekken series across our amber waves of grain.<br />
<br />
Announced during <a href="http://www.necphilly.com/">Northeast Championship XII</a>, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tekken-tag-tournament-2"><em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em></a> field test will take place in 5 different arcades across the nation: <a href="http://www.nycnextlevel.com/">Next Level Arcade</a> in New York City, <a href="http://www.round1usa.com/">Round One Entertainment</a> in City of Industry, CA, <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/SuperDojo">Super Arcade</a> in Walnut, CA, Fun Works in Honolulu, HI and <a href="http://arcadeufo.com/">Arcade UFO</a> in Austin, TX.<br />
<br />
As Austin is positively <em>bursting</em> with Joystiq editors, we'll be keeping an eye out for scheduling information as it becomes available. For now, we're just going to sit back and daydream about punching a robot with a bear. <em>Mmmmm, satisfying</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/04/namco-bandai-announces-tekken-tag-tournament-2-field-tests-in-us/">Namco Bandai announces Tekken Tag Tournament 2 field tests in US arcades</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 04 Dec 2011 16:30:00 EST. That's why we invented Deja Review: A quick look at the new features and relative agelessness of remade, revived and re-released games. </small></font>

	<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/28/deja-review-tekken-hybrid/"><img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/tekkentthdimg0109_530x298.jpg" style="width: 530px; height: 298px;" /></a></div>
"Woah, wait a second, Joystiq," you might be typing into the comments section of this review right this second, "how in the world can you do a Deja Review on something that's new like <em>Tekken Hybrid</em>?" Well, it's simple: <em>Tekken Hybrid</em> is mostly old stuff. Parts of it are new, but the most substantial offering in the package is a PS2 launch title which has had a face lift.<br />
<br />
I should preface this all by saying I'm a pretty big <em>Tekken</em> fan. I've been playing the series since it existed and the original <em>Tekken Tag Tournament</em> is responsible for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/26/joystiq-remembers-the-playstation-2/"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">one</span> of my favorite memories</a> as a human being. But, for most fighting game fans, you've either been with the franchise for a while or you've got your reasons for not giving Tekken a chance. Don't expect <em>Tekken Hybrid</em> to sway that opinion.<br />

In Japan, the term "<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Itasha">itasha</a>" (roughly "painful car") refers to a car that has been decorated with large images of anime or game characters. Even though plenty of otaku voluntarily do this to their vehicles, the very name suggests that even the owners of said vehicles acknowledge the embarrassment possible from decorating a vehicle in this manner.<br />
<br />
Anyway, we don't know why we were thinking about that just now. Here's some new <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/ace-combat-assault-horizon"><em>Ace Combat: Assault Horizon</em></a> DLC, featuring Tekken-themed planes. It'll be out November 15.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ace-combat-assault-horizon-tekken-dlc/">Ace Combat: Assault Horizon (Tekken DLC)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ace-combat-assault-horizon-tekken-dlc/#4596686"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/ace11901_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ace-combat-assault-horizon-tekken-dlc/#4596687"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/ace11902_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ace-combat-assault-horizon-tekken-dlc/#4596688"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/ace11903_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ace-combat-assault-horizon-tekken-dlc/#4596690"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/ace11904_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ace-combat-assault-horizon-tekken-dlc/#4596691"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/ace11905_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/09/ace-combat-assault-horizon-dlc-is-tekken-off/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ace Combat: Assault Horizon DLC is Tekken off</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/09/ace-combat-assault-horizon-dlc-is-tekken-off/">Ace Combat: Assault Horizon DLC is Tekken off</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Nov 2011 12:00:00 EST. It may sound like a dull hum from all the way over there in Outworld, but the Street Fighter community has been a noisy, combative warzone lately, and not in a good way. See, ever since Capcom outlined <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken"><em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em></a>'s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/15/watch-seth-killian-demonstrate-street-fighter-x-tekkens-gem-sy/">Gem System</a>, Street Fighter devotees (and competitive fighters in general) have been conducting heated debates over the system's merits, drawbacks and implications for serious tournament play, as well as the impact it will have on the casual fighting community.<br />
<br />
Seth Killian, Capcom Community Manager and face of all things Street Fighter in North America, chatted with <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/38212/Capcoms_Seth_Killian_On_Street_Fighter_X_Tekken_Gems_Controversy.php?">Gamasutra</a> to expound upon some of the Gem System's intricacies and the design philosophy behind it. First and foremost, Killian stressed that the system has been part of <em>SFxT</em>'s design philosophy for years, and that it represents the proverbial "nerd feather" that intrigues analytical theorycraft-style gamers.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/01/seth-killian-clarifies-sfxts-controversial-gem-system/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Seth Killian clarifies Street Fighter x Tekken's controversial Gem System</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/01/seth-killian-clarifies-sfxts-controversial-gem-system/">Seth Killian clarifies Street Fighter x Tekken's controversial Gem System</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Nov 2011 10:30:00 EST. <a href="http://andriasang.com/comyr5/">Andriasang</a> snagged the latest copy of Famitsu, which confirms a February 16 launch date for <em>Tekken 3D Prime Edition</em> in Japan. As you may <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/17/3ds-tekken-3d-prime-edition-comes-with-blood-vengeance-movie/">recall</a>, <em>Tekken 3D Prime Edition</em> isn't simply a <em>video game</em> -- it also includes the 3DS' first feature-length film, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tekken-blood-vengeance/"><em>Tekken Blood Vengeance</em></a>.<br />
<br />
Oh, and we should mention, if you're thinking about picking up the game simply to see <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/11/tekken-blood-vengeance-movie-rides-a-panda-in-3d-this-summer/">someone riding a panda</a>, we'd be remiss if we didn't turn you on to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/editor/ludwig-Kietzmann">cheaper options</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/27/tekken-3d-prime-edition-enters-the-king-of-japanese-retail-tourn/">Tekken 3D Prime Edition enters the King of Japanese Retail tournament on February 16, 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Oct 2011 01:30:00 EST. <br />
"But wait," you might be thinking. "Isn't Dan Hibiki, founder of the Saikyo-ryu school of martial arts and proprieter of the Saikyo Dojo <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/30/weekly-webcomic-wrapup-is-mourning-a-loss/">deceased</a>? Wasn't he <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/30/dan-and-anna-knocked-out-of-street-fighter-x-tekkens-final-rost/">killed</a> during the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken"><em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em></a> announcement at E3?" <br />
<br />
Quite right, intrepid fighting fan! Our understanding of the situation has been much the same, and yet the long, luxurious ponytail and pink gi seen in the above trailer are unmistakably <em>Hibiki</em>. It appears as though <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/capcom">Capcom</a> has taken to teasing multiple characters per trailer, however, as some of those body parts also look distinctively Juri-esque. <br />
<br />
Punch through the break for two more teasers, one of which flashes some undeniably Mecha Zangief goodness. Keep in mind that just because a character is identified in one of these videos, that doesn't necessarily mean they'll be playable in-game. Mecha Zangief has already been spotted in the background of at least one <em>SFXT</em> stage, so only time will tell.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/08/new-street-fighter-x-tekken-trailers-tease-dan-mecha-zangief-an/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Street Fighter X Tekken trailers tease Dan, Mecha Zangief and others</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/08/new-street-fighter-x-tekken-trailers-tease-dan-mecha-zangief-an/">New Street Fighter X Tekken trailers tease Dan, Mecha Zangief and others</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 08 Oct 2011 13:30:00 EST. During TGS, Capcom revealed <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken">Street Fighter X Tekken</a>'s</em> "Pandora Mode," which allows players to sacrifice a character in order to give the tag partner infinite EX meter before also dying, allowing for last-ditch comeback efforts. Curious about the motivation for this kind of crazy mode, I asked producer Yoshinori Ono, who then proceeded to take me to school about the differences in flow between <em>Street Fighter</em> and <em>Tekken</em> games.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/18/how-street-fighter-x-tekkens-pandora-mode-bridges-the-fighter/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>How Street Fighter X Tekken's 'Pandora Mode' bridges the fighters' styles</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/18/how-street-fighter-x-tekkens-pandora-mode-bridges-the-fighter/">How Street Fighter X Tekken's 'Pandora Mode' bridges the fighters' styles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 18 Sep 2011 18:30:00 EST. Capcom's cinematics department must be working on permanent mandatory overtime, as yet another character trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken"><em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em></a> has been revealed by Famitsu. Mostly concerned with <em>Street Fighter 4</em>'s Rufus, the latest trailer (above) also corroborates previous teasers which hinted at everyone's favorite Underoos spokesman, Zangief. Marshall Law also makes an appearance, albeit in a more gaseous form.<br />
<br />
We figure you'd have to be pretty damn sloshed to mistake Tekken's portly prodigy Bob Richards for Street Fighter's hardbodied heart-throb Ken Masters, but they <em>are</em> both blonde Americans, and we're willing to accept virtually any contrived excuse that allows Capcom characters to battle their direct Namco counterparts.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/12/street-fighter-x-tekken-bar-brawl-teases-rufus-marshall-law-za/">Street Fighter X Tekken bar brawl teases Rufus, Marshall Law, Zangief</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Sep 2011 18:01:00 EST. Japan will receive the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tekken-tag-tournament-2"><em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em></a> arcade cabinets on September 14, with an international launch loosely slated for late September at the earliest. Now that we've gotten the easy stuff out of the way, here's the hard part: actually finding an arcade you can play this in. If you don't live in Japan, are you willing to take one <em>expensive</em> vacation just to play an arcade game?<br />
<br />
Of course, Namco's thinking about you stay-at-home types. You have plenty to look forward to in <em>Tekken Hybrid</em>, which not only includes the CG movie and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/13/tekken-hybrid-unites-tag-tournament-remake-and-blood-vengeance-m/">an HD remake of the first <em>Tekken Tag Tournament</em></a>, but also <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/25/tekken-hybrid-blu-ray-packs-tekken-tag-tournament-2-prologue/">an early taste of the sequel</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/30/tekken-tag-tournament-2-crowns-the-king-of-japanese-arcades-on-s/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2 crowns the King of Japanese Arcades on Sept. 14</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Aug 2011 19:30:00 EST. <br />
As any veteran fighter knows, a large part of what makes a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Tekken"><em>Tekken</em></a> game feel like a <em>Tekken</em> game is punching and/or getting punched by a bear. To be honest, we've been worried that this subtle nuance might have been lost on Capcom, as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken"><em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em></a>'s ever-growing character roster continues to feature zero bears.<br />
<br />
Thankfully, our fears appear to have been unwarranted, as the above trailer shows quite a bit of fur. Although, it <em>is</em> possible that Zangief has stopped waxing. A second teaser has been tucked away <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/31/new-street-fighter-x-tekken-teaser-trailers-make-the-wait-unbear/#continued">beyond the viel</a>, and while those are some pretty <a href="http://streetfighter.wikia.com/wiki/Adon">Adon</a>-lookin' feet, our money is on <a href="http://streetfighter.wikia.com/wiki/Gou_Hibiki">Gou Hibiki</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/31/new-street-fighter-x-tekken-teaser-trailers-make-the-wait-unbear/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Street Fighter X Tekken teaser trailers make the wait unbearable</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/31/new-street-fighter-x-tekken-teaser-trailers-make-the-wait-unbear/">New Street Fighter X Tekken teaser trailers make the wait unbearable</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 31 Jul 2011 15:00:00 EST. According to series producer Yoshinori Ono, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken/"><em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em></a>'s character roster has been finalized, and it looks like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/24/street-fighter-x-tekken-and-vice-versa-revealed-at-comic-con/">last year's trailer</a> was too much for Dan Hibiki to handle. Speaking with <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2011/07/29/street-fighter-x-tekken-interview-continues-with-gameplay-mechanics-and-possible-ports/">Siliconera</a>, Ono stated that <em>Street Fighter</em>'s pinkest protagonist "won't be in <em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em>" due to the fact that "he was killed by a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tekken"><em>Tekken</em></a> character at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Comic-Con">Comic-Con</a> last year."<br />
<br />
Ono also remarked that <em>Tekken</em> veteran Anna Williams will be staying on the sidelines as well, albeit for less lethal reasons. "As much as I personally wanted to have a cool Nina and Anna tag battle," he said, "the director was against putting Anna because we already had Nina in." While we sincerely doubt that Dan is actually, <em>for-reals</em> dead, we can't help but be saddened by the news. A Yoshimitsu Super-Taunt doesn't seem like it would have the same <em>flair</em>, you know?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/30/dan-and-anna-knocked-out-of-street-fighter-x-tekkens-final-rost/">Dan and Anna knocked out of Street Fighter X Tekken's final roster</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 30 Jul 2011 11:30:00 EST. Unless it comes out on Blu-ray. But anyway!<br />
<br />
The one-night-only US showing will pre-date the Japanese release by a little over a month, and will be immediately followed by 20 minutes of interviews with various <em>Tekken</em> staff, including <em>Cowboy Bebop</em> alumni and screenwriter <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dai_Sat%C5%8D">Dai Satō</a>. You can plug in your zipcode at the bottom of <a href="http://www.fathomevents.com/originals/event/tekken.aspx">this site</a> to see if your local googolplex is participating in the festivities.<br />

E3 2011 was secretly a big year for the <em>Tekken</em> series. <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken"><em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em></a> was playable, and new Tekken games were briefly shown for both <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/tekken-3d-brings-the-king-of-the-iron-fist-tournament-to-the-3ds/">3DS</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/wii-u-games/">Wii U</a>. If those weren't enough, Sony sneaked the PlayStation version of the original <em>Tekken</em> onto the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/06/03/playstation-store-update-187/">PlayStation Store</a> right before the show.<br />
<br />
One facet of this manifold Iron Fist media assault is Tekken Hybrid, a PS3-exclusive collection that bundles the movie <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/11/tekken-blood-vengeance-movie-rides-a-panda-in-3d-this-summer/"><em>Tekken: Blood Vengeance 3D</em></a> with an HD remake of the PS2's <em>Tekken Tag Tournament</em>. Unspecified extra content will also be thrown in for the set's November release -- judging from recent events, we're guessing that content will include trailers for like a dozen more <em>Tekken</em> games.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-hd-e3-2011/">Tekken Tag Tournament HD (E3 2011)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-hd-e3-2011/#4211902"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/tekkentaghd01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-hd-e3-2011/#4211903"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/tekkentaghd02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-hd-e3-2011/#4211904"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/tekkentaghd03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-hd-e3-2011/#4211905"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/tekkentaghd04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-hd-e3-2011/#4211906"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/tekkentaghd05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/13/tekken-hybrid-unites-tag-tournament-remake-and-blood-vengeance-m/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tekken Hybrid unites Tag Tournament remake and Blood Vengeance movie on PS3</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/13/tekken-hybrid-unites-tag-tournament-remake-and-blood-vengeance-m/">Tekken Hybrid unites Tag Tournament remake and Blood Vengeance movie on PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Jun 2011 16:30:00 EST. Despite having <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/heres-the-list-of-every-3ds-game-in-development/">a definitive list of 3DS games in development</a> at last year's E3, we were surprised to see <em>Tekken 3D</em>, a new installment in the series, during a 3DS montage at the Nintendo E3 2011 press conference. We were only given the briefest glimpse at the game -- a match between Heihachi and Kazuya. Hopefully it's at Nintendo's booth so we can get a longer, more in-depth look.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/tekken-3d-brings-the-king-of-the-iron-fist-tournament-to-the-3ds/">Tekken 3D brings the King of the Iron Fist Tournament to the 3DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 Jun 2011 12:44:00 EST. Turning fighting games into movies is something that we actually appreciate quite a bit. These movies end up being so bad, they come all the way back around the spectrum to good. Films like <em>Street Fighter</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/27/doa-movie-even-deader-after-arrival/"><em>DOA: Dead or Alive</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/29/king-of-fighters-movie-trailer-giving-us-street-fighter-flashbac/"><em>The King of Fighters</em></a> will always have a special place in our hearts <em>-- </em>and now, with this latest trailer for the Blu-ray and DVD release (slated for July 19), it would seem <em>Tekken: The Movie</em> is on track to be on that list.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/03/tekken-live-action-movie-trailer-is-so-bad-its-good/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tekken live action movie trailer is so bad it's good</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/03/tekken-live-action-movie-trailer-is-so-bad-its-good/">Tekken live action movie trailer is so bad it's good</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Jun 2011 05:00:00 EST. You'll be able to see the next <em>Tekken</em> release in 3D, making the act of a mohawked robot punching a bear more immersive than ever. You just won't be able to play it. <a href="http://www.famitsu.com/news/201105/11043464.html">Announced</a> at a Namco Bandai event in Dubai, <em>Tekken: Blood Vengeance</em> is a new CG movie scripted by <em>Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex</em> and <em>Cowboy Bebop</em> writer <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dai_Sat%C5%8D">Dai Sato</a>, with animation by <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-degeneration">Resident Evil: Degeneration's</a></em> <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/05/11/tekken_blood_vengeance_trailer/">Digital Frontier</a>.<br />
<br />
You can see the first trailer (and its brief scene of panda riding) after the break. It'll be out in Japanese theaters this summer.<br />

In other <em>Tekken</em> movie news, Anchor Bay Films announced a North American release for last year's live-action <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tekken,movie"><em>Tekken</em> film</a>, which will hit Blu-ray and DVD on July 19.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/11/tekken-blood-vengeance-movie-rides-a-panda-in-3d-this-summer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tekken: Blood Vengeance movie rides a panda in 3D this summer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/11/tekken-blood-vengeance-movie-rides-a-panda-in-3d-this-summer/">Tekken: Blood Vengeance movie rides a panda in 3D this summer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 May 2011 10:00:00 EST. Six fighters have joined the ranks of confirmed characters in Capcom's crossover fighting game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken"><em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em></a>. We already knew Ryu, Chun-Li, Kazuya and Nina Williams would be exchanging blows when the game drops next year -- now we can add Ken, Guile and Abel to the Street Fighter camp, and King, Marduk and Bob to Team Tekken.<br />
<br />
We think this opens up some pretty interesting teammate possibilities. Like, can you imagine a more terrifying fighting force than one that includes an army guy who can punch through the sound barrier and another guy who replaced his own head with a jaguar head? We cannot. Just minutes ago, immediately following the Tougeki fighting game championship finals held during the Tokyo Game Show, Namco Bandai game director Katsuhiro Harada announced <em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em>, the first iteration in the Tekken Tag series since the 1999 debut over a decade ago. We had a chance to speak with Mr. Harada following this unveiling, and learned more about the long delay, the game's arcade destination, the current state of fighting games and what's going on with <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/tekken-x-street-fighter">Tekken X Street Fighter</a></em>.<br />
<br />
<a id="fck_paste_padding"></a><strong>Joystiq: How long have you been working on Tekken Tag Tournament 2?<br />
</strong> <br />
Katsuhiro Harada: Actually there was some talk at first of doing this before Tekken 6 came out, but when we discussed it amongst ourselves and the team we felt like we first wanted to make a proper sequel to 6 to see how far we could push the limits of our graphics engine on that hardware before going to Tag. <br />
<br />
As you've seen for yourself in the trailer, we have three or four characters on the screen at once so that's simply twice as much power needed than previously for example in Tekken 6. So obviously trying to do that right off the bat earlier on would be much more difficult.<br />
<br />
<strong>If it's running on the same technology as 6, which came not only to arcades but to consoles, what are your console plans for Tag 2?</strong><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/18/interview-katushiro-harada-talks-tekken-tag-tournament-2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Interview: Katsuhiro Harada talks Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/18/interview-katushiro-harada-talks-tekken-tag-tournament-2/">Interview: Katsuhiro Harada talks Tekken Tag Tournament 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 18 Sep 2010 08:15:00 EST. Attendees of the Tougeki fighting game tournament in Japan received a special surprise today. Namco Bandai unveiled a brand new <em>Tekken</em> game for Japanese arcades. <em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em> is a follow-up to 1999's arcade original, updated with a new roster and a current-gen graphics engine.<br />
<br />
Neither a US nor console release have been announced at the time, but we're certain they're in the works. Even the debut trailer (after the break) states that "other region release dates are TBD."<br />

Anchor Bay Films has acquired the distribution rights to <em>Tekken</em> (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tekken-movie/">the movie</a>), a live-action adaptation of Namco Bandai's fighting game franchise. Produced by Crystal Sky Pictures, the film is expected to be released "widely" in the United States next year, reports <a href="http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=69768">ComingSoon.net</a>. (The movie premiered in Japan this past March, courtesy of Warner Bros.)<br />
<br />
"The <em>Tekken</em> video game franchise has sold millions of copies over the past decade," said Anchor Bay president Bill Clark. "Crystal Sky has invested millions in the production, making sure they were able to convey not only the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/15/tekken-the-movie-the-trailer-the-post/#continued">incredible fight scenes</a>, but also the emotional journey of the main character, Jin" (as seen above). The movie has grossed just over a half million dollars to date, according to <a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=tekken.htm">Box Office Mojo</a>.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-the-movie/">Tekken (the movie)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-the-movie/#2716879"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/02/tekkenfilm19_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-the-movie/#2716861"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/02/tekkenfilm1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-the-movie/#2716862"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/02/tekkenfilm2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-the-movie/#2716863"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/02/tekkenfilm3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-the-movie/#2716864"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/02/tekkenfilm4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/14/tekken-movie-lands-us-distributor-coming-2011/">Tekken movie lands US distributor, coming 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Sep 2010 06:15:00 EST. The retailer has <em>tekken</em> $20 off the current price of the Xbox 360 version of <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/tekken-6">Tekken 6</a></em>, offering it for just $9.99.<br />
<br />
In order to <em>tek</em> (okay, we'll stop) advantage of this deal, you have to be a member of Best Buy's free "<a href="https://myrewardzone.bestbuy.com/programOverview.jspx">Reward Zone</a>," and you must use this <a href="https://myrewardzone.bestbuy.com/viewDetails.jspx?tc=CPN_TEK">printable coupon</a> in-store before August 22. But that's hardly $20 worth of work.<br />
