<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-walking-dead"><em>The Walking Dead</em></a>'s next episode, 400 Days, stars five different characters in five separate stories of survival during the zombie apocalypse, all tied together by a geographical locale: A truck stop. These newcomers offer a fresh perspective on the events in season one of <em>The Walking Dead</em>, but overall, Telltale's tone hasn't changed much.<br />

"Aw, fuck."<br />
<br />
Those are the first words that Vince, one of the five characters highlighted in 400 Days, says. He spits the phrase into a dark alley as he searches for a spot to stash his gun, police sirens blaring from down the street. The player gets to decide where Vince throws the pistol - the garbage, his pants, the roof - but it doesn't appear to affect where he ends up: chained to the floor of a prison bus, with a heartbroken statutory rapist in front of him and a white-collar, former millionaire behind, all latched on the same line.<br />

The new episode for Telltale's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-walking-dead"><em>The Walking Dead</em></a>, 400 Days, is set to launch in July for $5 on PC, Mac, XBLA, PSN and iOS. It'll <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/10/the-walking-dead-heads-to-vita-with-new-bundle-400-days/">hit Vita</a> one month later, in August. That version will be bundled with the entire first season, for the first time ever on Vita.<br />
<br />
That bundle is a good deal for fans of continuity - the decisions players made in the first season of <em>The Walking Dead</em> will show up in 400 Days, and the choices in 400 Days will impact season two, Telltale marketing man Richard Iggo said at E3. Players can start 400 Days without having played any of season one, but Iggo warned against it for those who want the full effect.<br />
<br />
The DLC features five new characters in five separate stories, with a truck stop as their connective tissue. The truck stop is near events in season one of <em>The Walking Dead</em>, making it easy, geographically at least, to include previous player choices in 400 Days and beyond.<br />

Sony announced at its E3 conference that Telltale's acclaimed episodic adventure game series <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-walking-dead"><em>The Walking Dead</em></a> is headed to the PlayStation Vita. The platform will also host an all-new episode titled "400 Days," along with other bonus content. "400 Days" will also come to Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Mac and iOS this summer.<br />

Telltale may be gearing up to announce new DLC for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-walking-dead">The Walking Dead</a>. </em>That's according to an update to the game's entry in the Steam database, titled 'Walking Dead 400 Days DLC.' The name correlates with teaser clips Telltale published recently.<br />

The four clips are titled <a href="https://vine.co/v/b3gbMwUuD1x">Day 2</a>, <a href="https://vine.co/v/b3twh3FAVFP">Day 220</a>, <a href="https://vine.co/v/b3YOhn5DTFA">Day 184</a>, and <a href="https://vine.co/v/bLmgUiD0bet">Day 236</a>. Each one features a person's photo pinned on a 'Missing' board, perhaps pertaining to characters introduced in the DLC.<br />

<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/25/telltale-writer-teases-more-walking-dead-prior-to-season-2/">Back in February</a>, series writer Gary Whitta said "there may very well be more Walking Dead from Telltale before Season 2." Also, a <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2013/6/3/4392934/telltale-games-the-walking-dead-dlc">Polygon</a> report indicates at one point Telltale's exhibitor page on the E3 website listed 'Season 1 DLC' for <em>The Walking Dead</em>. The post notes acquiring an internal hard drive resolves the issues, but goes on to say Telltale is giving XBLM codes to those who cannot acquire a hard drive, as long as they supply proof of purchase.<br /><br />The other major issue which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/27/retail-walking-dead-encountering-problems-on-xbox-360/">cropped up last month</a> saw some players unable to start episodes after the first one; upon trying to load Episode 2, for example, they'd find themselves restarting Episode 1. In <a href="http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43283">another forum post</a>, Telltale says it's submitted a remedying patch to Microsoft which, once approved, is being made available as a title update. The post doesn't note when the update is expected to be available. In the meantime, Telltale suggests how players can confront two different variations of the issue.<br /><br />For those who have online-enabled Xbox Live accounts and are playing the retail version, Telltale says playing the game while connected to Live should remedy the problem. While Telltale doesn't have a guaranteed workaround for the "rare" variation in which save data can be overwritten, the developer notes some users had success with recovering affected save files by copying them across from Slot 1 to Slot 3. To cut off the credits of this installment early is tantamount to taking a bathroom break one minute before Darth Vader mutilates Luke in Cloud City, or Bruce Willis realizes he hasn't spoken to another person in weeks.<br /><br />The moment is brief, as is the entire episode, but believe me, you won't feel cheated. Currently employing 125, the company is looking to up its headcount toward 160 individuals, starting in March or April of 2013. Back in October, Telltale signed a five-year lease for a new 22,000 square-foot space in San Rafael, the town Telltale Games has called home since its formation in 2004.<br /><br />According to the North Bay Business Journal, Telltale CEO and co-founder Dan Connors pegged the company's success on its ability to employ "digital distribution and episodic production to take advantage of licenses." Telltale has said this fifth episode will mark the end of the current story, with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/07/the-walking-dead-season-2-insinuated-by-telltale/">more expected to follow</a>.<br /><br />According to our reviewers, the series has gotten <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/12/the-walking-dead-episode-4-review/">better as it's gone along</a>, and Twitter users seem to indicate the emotional duress of playing it has gone up too. The offer's good until the clock strikes midnight ET on November 13.<br /><br />Whereas you've got an extra three days for the other offer, which slashes 50 percent off all 32 Interplay games in the site's catalog. They include Fallout <em>1</em>, <em>2</em>, and <em>Tactics</em>, both MDK games, and the once-controversial <em>Kingpin: Life of Crime. </em>Incidentally<em>, </em>hip hop superstars Cypress Hill supplied the soundtrack for <em>Kingpin</em>. Why? Because many of the "best games of the year" may not be RPGs, but they've adapted some of the best components of RPGs to become stronger games.<br /><br /><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/xcom-enemy-unknown">XCOM: Enemy Unknown</a></em>, for example, is one of the best-received games of 2012, due in part to its use of RPG mechanics. Tactics games are often associated with RPGs (especially Japanese-style tactics games) but the connection isn't always so concrete with "western" games. For example, I don't really qualify the original <em>X-COM: UFO Defense</em> as an RPG, due to its too-large squads filled with personality-free squaddies, whereas <em>Jagged Alliance 2</em> certainly fit the mold.<br /><br /><em>XCOM</em> tweaks the initial game's form in ways that align with traditional role-playing games. The squad size is limited to 4-6 characters, traditional RPG numbers, and only having one base means you rarely need large numbers of squaddies - I never had more than 15 at once, and even that was high due to playing on "Classic" difficulty. Developer Telltale tells Joystiq it is aware of the problem, which causes Walking Dead save files to become corrupt or disappear in Episode 4, entitled "Around Every Corner."<br /><br />"We have received a small number of reports surrounding this issue since the launch of Episode Four: Around Every Corner and have been working with users on our forums to clearly identify a solution which will be resolved as quickly as possible," says a Telltale representative.<br /><br />Telltale says players can avoid the issue by "refraining from use of the third save slot in the game menu." If they do get a corrupted save error, Telltale recommends returning to the PS3 home screen and waiting for an update to be released.<br /><br />"We are working with our partners at Sony to push the patch to users as quickly as possible, and will update our customers as soon as we have confirmed when the patch has been released." The question now is if it delivers on these promises.<br /><br /><em>Around Every Corner</em> tackles the extremes of child endangerment and mutilation, forces players to slowly and deliberately bury the recently deceased, and it portrays the thoughtless slaughter of the living, by the living.
