It was our first stop this morning when the expo floor opened, and still we waited in line for at least 30 minutes -- a line that completely surrounded the ginormous booth. The line ended at a small theater lounge, in which we sat down to watch the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ni-no-kuni">Ni no Kuni</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/professor-layton-and-the-devils-flute">Professor Layton and the Devil's Flute</a></em>, and <a href="http://www.roid.jp/">ROID</a> trailers we had just seen from <em>the line</em>. <br /><br />Finally, we were ushered into a game demo area, and then handed the requisite swag bag. Having been told that the swag bag contained this year's version of the vaunted Level-5 "Premium Gift," with either a DVD <em>or</em> a DS demo cartridge, we decided to share the <em>excitement</em> of opening the sealed envelope with the internet. Enjoy the exciting conclusion in the video above!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/24/tgs-2009-unboxing-the-level-5-premium-gift/">TGS 2009: Unboxing the Level-5 Premium Gift</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 Sep 2009 20:00:00 EST. <br />Since the first footage of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/tgs08-first-footage-of-the-another-world/"><em>Ni no Kuni: The Another World</em></a> appeared at the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tgs08">Tokyo Game Show</a> last week, it has become the DS game I'm most looking forward to. A Level 5/Studio Ghibli collaboration is the stuff dreams are made of. The animation, predictably, looks wonderful. I already just want to <em>hold</em> the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/spellbook_ninokuni_002.jpg">included</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/spellbook_ninokuni_003.jpg">spellbook</a>. Maybe <em>stroke</em> it. Is that wrong?<br /><br />Plenty of other titles were showcased last week in Tokyo, so now seems like an appropriate time to see which made the most impact on each of you. Are you crazy about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/15/tgs08-chrono-trigger-as-good-as-it-ever-was/"><em>Chrono Trigger</em></a>? Giddy about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/13/tgs08-edgeworth-points-out-his-new-trailer/"><em>Gyakuten Kenji</em></a>? Cuckoo for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/13/tgs08-castlevania-order-of-awesome-trailer/"><em>Castlevania</em></a>? If you could have one upcoming DS title in your hands <em>right now</em>, what would it be?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/16/ds-daily-most-anticipated/">DS Daily: Most anticipated</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Oct 2008 09:00:00 EST. While Capcom wasn't showing off any new <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Resident-Evil-5/">Resident Evil 5</a></em> levels at TGS, it was enabling one of the game's biggest back-of-the-box bullet points - <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/resident-evil-5-to-offer-online-co-op-delayed-to-march-2009/">co-op gameplay</a> - as well as showing off the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/resident-evil-5-control-overhauled-to-be-more-gears-like/">new</a> (and improved!) control type: "Shooter" mode. Ludwig and I took the game for a two-player spin, then condensed our thoughts for you in this totally unedited back-and-forth format. <br /><br />

<br />Because seriously, how <em>mellow</em> is that tune? Lovely. Yours truly almost drifted off at his keyboard watching this. It's also nice to be reminded that we don't reside in a post-apocalyptic wasteland! This is the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tgs08">Tokyo Game Show</a> trailer for Namco Bandai's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/fragile-looking-stronger-all-the-time/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Fragile</span></a>, featuring plenty more of hero Seto and his female colleague Ren (who could both do with a comb through their hair), the floating spirit of a young girl, and a <em>lot</em> of cut-scenery. All in all, it's as enchanting and as beautiful as ever, if a little light on gameplay.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/15/tgs08-new-fragile-trailer-reduces-stress/">TGS08: New Fragile trailer reduces stress</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Oct 2008 20:30:00 EST. "Nothing but a player?s decision and a tactics of using various weapons are important than anything that you really need to think to play." This line, taken from the official <em>Demon's Souls</em> site blurb, should make you feel as scared and confused as I felt when I got my hands on the game. My first thought, "ouch," remains scrawled at the top of my notes and, sadly, it's all downhill from there.<br /><br />

Namco Bandai was all about the anime games at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tgs-2008/">TGS</a> this year. That's counting playable builds of <em>Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm</em>, at least three <em>Gundam</em> titles, <em>Macross Ace Frontier</em> and<em> Soul Eater</em>. Other titles like the <em>Idolm@ster</em> PSP games were also a hit with the crowd, as huge queues snaked beyond the booth's perimeter. <div align="left">When we say that <em>Gomibako</em> -- a new PSN title -- is<em> trashy</em>, we're not aiming to dis the game. You see, we're not referring to the game's quality, we're simply referring to what the game's all about. The given name "Gomibako" literally means "trash box," or "trash can" if you prefer. It's all about festering piles of garbage and how to get rid of them properly (and by "properly," we really mean "in outrageous and silly ways").<br /></div>
</div>
<br />In going about our Earth-friendly activities, <em>Gomibako</em> asks players to fill up a giant blue bin with as much trash as possible. The game plays a lot like <em>Tetris</em>, and so, it's important to properly place each falling piece of garbage in order to conserve space for more items to come. But since we're talking about irregularly-shaped articles of trash, conserving space proves to be a little more difficult than it sounds. <br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gomibako/">Gomibako aka Trash Panic</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gomibako/#2056306"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/ss08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gomibako/#2056305"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/ss07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gomibako/#2056304"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/ss06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gomibako/#2056303"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/ss02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gomibako/#2056302"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/ss01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/15/tgs-08-hands-on-gomibako-psn/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TGS 08 hands-on: Gomibako (PSN)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/15/tgs-08-hands-on-gomibako-psn/">TGS 08 hands-on: Gomibako (PSN)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Oct 2008 14:30:00 EST. Tecmo showed off about a dozen games at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tgs-2008/">TGS</a> this year, though only a few took up actual floor space. Newly revealed games like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/quantum-theory"><em>Quantum Theory</em></a> and <em>Undead Knights</em> were only shown in trailer form, but other, already known titles like <em>DS Nishimura Kyotaro Suspense 2 Shin Tantei Series</em> (say that five times fast!) took up space as large as an entire side of the squared Tecmo territory. (Perhaps Tecmo needed the extra room just to fit the game's title on the wall.)<br /><br />Honestly, Tecmo's booth isn't about the games anyway. That's not what draws the crowds. Ask people who visited Tecmo's booth what they loved most and they'll likely respond: <em>booth babes!</em> You'll see what we mean once you take our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tecmo-booth-tour-tgs-2008/1098616/"><strong>Tecmo Booth Photo Tour</strong></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/15/tgs-08-picture-tour-tecmo-booth/">TGS 08 picture tour: Tecmo booth</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Oct 2008 13:45:00 EST. CESA announced their list of the best games of TGS 2008, known as the "Future" category of their Japan Game Awards. Of the twelve games given the award (in no specific order), three are on Wii. <br /><br />Of course Capcom's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/14/tgs08-monster-hunter-3-controls-now-in-english/"><em>Monster Hunter 3</em></a> got a nod; nothing short of <em>not calling it Monster Hunter 3</em> will keep this from being a ridiculous hit in Japan, and that held true at TGS as well, with the game commanding ridiculous lines. But the two other Wii winners may be more of a surprise: Chunsoft's Sega-published visual novel <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/09/not-quite-428-screens-but-a-few/"><em>428: The World Doesn't Change Even So</em></a>, and Prope's experimental <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/14/lets-have-fun-with-lets-tap/">Let's Tap</a>.</em> Sega must be very happy right about now!<br /><br />For the sake of Nintendo fandom, we'll include the DS winners here as well: the <em>Phoenix Wright </em>spinoff <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/13/tgs08-edgeworth-points-out-his-new-trailer/"><em>Gyakuten Kenji</em></a> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/01/dqix-dated-for-march-release-in-japan/">Dragon Quest IX</a>, </em>which wasn't even playable<em>.</em><br /><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://kotaku.com/5063495/tokyo-game-show-best-in-show-winners-announced">Kotaku</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/15/monster-hunter-3-two-sega-games-honored-by-tgs-organizers/">Monster Hunter 3, two Sega games honored by TGS organizers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Oct 2008 11:45:00 EST. <div align="left">Konami's booth may not have been one of the larger booths at Tokyo Game Show this year, but it was certainly the most visible. It was nearly impossible to miss Konami's booth considering it was the very first thing you'd see after passing through the media entrance. <br /></div>

<br />Anyway, what did Konami show on the floor? Its showing this year was all about sequels. The company dropped names for games from the <em>Suikoden</em>, <em>Silent Hill</em> and <em>Castlevania</em> series, just to name a few. This <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/chrono-trigger-a-noble-spirit-embiggens-the-smallest-screens/"><em>Chrono Trigger</em></a> trailer from TGS may seem familiar to you. No, not because it's the same ol' <em>Chrono Trigger</em>, but because it's the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/06/chrono-trailer/">same ol' trailer</a>. Not <em>precisely</em> the same -- the new trailer is a <em>little</em> longer and differs in parts, but most of it is the same.<br /><br />Listen, we love <em>Chrono Trigger</em>. Which is why we think that maybe Square Enix could use that entire game they have lying around, largely unaltered, and hack out a little more footage for a new trailer.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/15/tgs08-chrono-trigger-as-good-as-it-ever-was/">TGS08: Chrono Trigger, as good as it ever was</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Oct 2008 11:38:00 EST. Sega's booth was hidden away in a corner at the backside of the Makuhari Messe. Despite this, Sega still drew in massive crowds. We suppose the guiding blue lights of Sega's logo would grab any fan's attention and bring them back towards the house that Sonic built. <br /><br />This year's Sega offering was all about <em>Yakuza 3</em>, <em>Phantasy Star</em>, and many more DS J-RPGs. And here you thought we'd escaped <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/919/919647p1.html">TGS</a> without <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/01/rumorang-mgs4-on-xbox-360-12-14-months-late/">this rumorang</a> whizzing by again. Oh no, we most certainly did not (<em>duck!</em>). "We're actively looking into a [<em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em>] release for the Xbox 360," a Konami rep told Japanese investment research firm Morningstar for a TGS report published today (<a href="http://www3.morningstar.co.jp/portal/RncNewsDetailAction.do?rncNo=24577">in Japanese</a>). Feel free to take that as "no duh" or a renewed glimmer of hope -- Morningstar's report does not include further evidence that Konami is any closer to bringing a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mgs4"><em>MGS4</em></a> port to Xbox 360 than when the rumor first appeared ... <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/29/rumor-metal-gear-solid-4-not-a-ps3-exclusive/">two years ago</a>!<br /><br />As <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/919/919647p1.html">IGN</a> notes, the key dilemma is in the discs. But they lack one important component for most of us: coherent text. Nintendo World Report snapped pictures of English-language move charts at TGS.<br /><br />The five separate control guides completely <em>shatter</em> the notion that the game's controls would be simplified in the transition to Wii. The <em>MH3</em> controls don't look <em>overcomplicated,</em> just complicated. Every button is used, some in multiple ways. Different weapons have subtly different control schemes. Interestingly, there are different controls for "sub-aqua," so it must be more than just walking around on the bottom of the sea.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/14/tgs08-monster-hunter-3-controls-now-in-english/">TGS08: Monster Hunter 3 controls: now in English!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Oct 2008 16:25:00 EST. We're fascinated by <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/29/karaoke-joysound-wii-thousands-of-downloadable-songs/">Karaoke Joysound Wii</a>,</em> Hudson's karaoke program that allows players to turn their Wiis into karaoke machines and download selections from a massive library of songs for a 300 yen fee (for one day of unlimited downloading). But we believed that it was going to stay in Japan, for various reasons including the greater popularity of private karaoke in Japan, the reliance on a massive licensing deal that Hudson USA doesn't have, and the fact that Hudson <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/takahashi-meijin-hudson-planning-adventure-island-sequel/"><em>said so</em></a>.<br /><br />But 4cr's Keito reported in her hands-on preview of the game that "The game is going to be released in Japan on December 18th, and then in both the USA and Europe in 2009." Could Hudson be working on a deal with an American music publisher? If so, we may have $3 karaoke parties soon.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/13/karaoke-joysound-wii-leaving-japan/">Karaoke Joysound Wii leaving Japan?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Oct 2008 18:15:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tgs-2008">Tokyo Game Show</a> organizer CESA announced (via <a href="http://games.ign.com/articles/919/919109p1.html">IGN</a>) that the show had 194,288 visitors this year, up about a thousand attendees from last year. The increase in visitors on the public days made up for the significant drop during the two "business only" days of the show.<br />
<ul>
    <li><strong>Thursday (Business</strong>): 27,305 (<em>'07 - 29,783</em>)</li>
    <li><strong>Friday (Business)</strong>: 24,178 ('<em>07 - 32,390</em>)</li>
    <li><strong>Saturday (Public)</strong>: 71,639 (<em>'07 - 64,795</em>)</li>
    <li><strong>Sunday (Public)</strong>: 71,166 (<em>'07 - 66,072</em>)</li>

Good thing TGS is open to the public because those figures really help distract from asking: where have all the business folks gone?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/13/tgs-08-public-attendance-up-business-visitors-way-down/">TGS 08: Public attendance up, business visitors way down</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Oct 2008 16:00:00 EST. Luckily for those of us who wanted to read previews of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/tgs08-monster-hunter-3-features-classic-controller-support-spl/"><em>Monster Hunter 3</em></a>, Capcom held a private demo session for foreign press, allowing people to actually <em>see the thing</em> and not just stare dumbfounded at the insane line. Wired's Jean Snow got a chance to play the guaranteed multi-million seller, and brought back not-entirely-great news.<br /><br />He calls the graphics "fine for a Wii title," which is a far cry from the eye-popping beauty we've seen in screens and video. That's not bad. Even <em>better</em> than not bad: apparently, your character can now hold his or her breath for "5-6 minutes," opening up an entirely new area of the world for exploration.<br /><br />Unfortunately, the wait for <em>Monster Hunter 3</em> wasn't limited to the TGS line: the game as presented was plagued by "constant loading screens when entering new areas."<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/13/tgs08-monster-hunter-3-not-as-gorgeous-as-it-seems/">TGS08: Monster Hunter 3 not as gorgeous as it seems</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Oct 2008 15:25:00 EST. The Tokyo Game Show has brought us quite a few things, but not many as exciting as the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/03/gyakuten-kenji-trailer-now-more-visible-full-of-old-friends/">walking</a> and arm-flinging in the latest <em>Gyakuten Kenji</em> trailer. All that effort spent on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/gyakuten-kenji-devs-vaguely-discuss-their-game/">getting the movement just right</a> seems to have worked out; the arm-flinging may be a little dramatic, but we're talking about the <em>Ace Attorney</em> universe, here -- the drama is what we've been craving.<br /><br /><em>Gyakuten Kenji</em> is scheduled to come out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/capcom-delivers-verdict-on-gyakuten-kenji-date/">next spring</a> in Japan, which means it's a damn long time yet before we'll see it. <br />

Oh, if only we could always start the morning with hot <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/22/stare-death-in-the-face-in-castlevania-judgment/">Death on Death</a> action ... well, we'd at least be more inclined to like <em>Castlevania Judgment</em>. Alas, it's only shiny and new this once, and hereafter, all Death v. Death <em>deathmatches</em> will be, as they say, <em>played out</em>.<br /><br />But for a moment, for one bright, shining, purply-explosions moment, <em>Castlevania Judgment</em> was beautiful. Now we're back to bursting muscles, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/26/potential-motivation-to-buy-castlevania-judgment/">wacky shorts</a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/e308-wii-fanboy-takes-the-whip-to-castlevania-judgment/">flawed</a> gameplay. But buck up, little campers: there's a bit of <a href="http://wii.kombo.com/article.php?artid=12956">news</a> on the <span style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://dsfanboy.com/tag/order-of-ecclesia">Order of Ecclesia</a>/Judgment</span> DS-Wii connectivity front. We knew the DS title's heroine, Shanoa, was unlockable in <em>Castlevania Judgment</em>, and as we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/20/gc-2008-castlevania-judgment-reserved-for-2009-mysterious-char/">speculated</a>, so is Aeon -- both through the DS/Wii game connection. In the DS game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/16/iga-talks-castlevania-plays-castlevania/">Wii connectivity</a> adds a hard mode and raises your level cap in one mode to a whopping 255. Do we need to be so badass? Oh yes. <em>Yes</em>, we do.<br />

Remember all of those unannounced TGS games? That's a rhetorical question. We know full well that you remember them, because many of you won't stop harping on about them in our comments section. Let's get one thing clear, in releasing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/30/11-unannounced-ps3-titles-being-shown-at-tgs/">that press release</a> Sony was revealing a portion of its TGS show floor offerings. The rest were left as a surprise. They were "unannounced."<br /><br />Many of these games were titles that we'd seen before, such as <em>Killzone 2, Nobi Nobi Boy</em> and <em>White Knight Chronicles</em>, however there were some games that were revealed for the first time during the show. Titles such as <em>Demon's Souls</em> (which was actually technically announced just prior to the show, via Famitsu) and <em>Quantum Theory</em>. Sony's lineup was strong but, sadly, there were no megaton game announcements. So now you know the mystery of the "unannounced" games, can we get back to looking forward to all the awesome games we <em>do</em> know about?<br /><br />Check after the break for the list of "unannounced" TGS games.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/12/the-mystery-of-sonys-unannounced-tgs-games/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The mystery of Sony's 'unannounced' TGS games</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/12/the-mystery-of-sonys-unannounced-tgs-games/">The mystery of Sony's 'unannounced' TGS games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 12 Oct 2008 16:00:00 EST. Ah, the Square Enix Mega Theater. It's always something to look forward to at every TGS. We took the time to check out the theater and see what's cooking behind those big, black walls. Square Enix showed off trailers for nine games and a film in the Mega Theater, including two PS3 titles, the <em>Advent Children Complete</em> movie, and four PSP titles. There's not much we can say to prepare you for the video after the break (which we carefully extracted from Capcom's TGS DVD). Let's go over the facts: Capcom is making a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Street-Fighter-movie/">Street Fighter movie</a> centered around Chun-Li (played by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Kristin-Kreuk/">Smallville's Kristin Kreuk</a>); that movie will be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/06/new-street-fighter-movie-by-doom-director/">directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak</a> (who previously helmed DOOM); it will be terrible.<br /><br />"Whoa, whoa, whoa Joystiq!" you exclaim. "Those first two statements are, as you said, facts. But that last statement ... surely that's just your opinion." We appreciate your concern, reader, but the smallest of sneak peaks - really, just a single frame from the film - is enough to convince us. Is Chun Li wearing a mattress?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/12/tgs-08-street-fighter-movie/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TGS 08: Street Fighter ... Shortly after learning that the Flood would be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/roll-up-your-pants-the-flood-confirmed-in-halo-wars/">making an appearance in <em>Halo Wars</em></a>, we were whisked away to a meeting with Ensemble's Graeme Divine where we immediately asked: "Is the Flood a playable race?" As quickly as we asked it, we were answered: no. With an emphasis on the story-driven single-player campaign, Divine told us that the multiplayer component would only include the UNSC and Covenant forces, as already revealed, and the campaign would only be playable as the UNSC, not the Covenant. <br /><br />But that brings up another issue: how is the Flood present in a prequel taking place 20 years before the events in <em>Halo: Combat Evolved</em>? The more Halo-aware amongst you (read: total nerds) will recall that the introduction of the mysterious Flood in that seminal title was a surprise to the player and, indeed, to the entire UNSC command. When asked if they're <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retconned">retconning</a> the Flood earlier into the <em>Halo</em> timeline, Divine said that the events observed in Halo 1 "was the first time UNSC knew about the Flood." So how does the existence of the parasitic aliens twenty years earlier go entirely unrecorded? Unsurprisingly, they're not saying (our guess: everyone dies). <br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/halo-wars/">Halo Wars</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/halo-wars/#927635"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/screenshots_1280_013-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/halo-wars/#927636"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/screenshots_1280_023_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/halo-wars/#927637"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/screenshots_1280_014_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/halo-wars/#927638"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/screenshots_1280_015_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/halo-wars/#927639"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/screenshots_1280_024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/11/tgs-08-a-guided-tour-of-the-halo-wars-campaign/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TGS 08: A guided tour of the Halo Wars campaign</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/11/tgs-08-a-guided-tour-of-the-halo-wars-campaign/">TGS 08: A guided tour of the Halo Wars campaign</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 11 Oct 2008 01:58:00 EST. <br />Nestled comfortably alongside major content partners like Capcom, Electronic Arts, and Square Enix is the Microsoft booth - a bright white oasis of relatively line-free gaming. Seriously, our wait in the Resident Evil 5 co-op line at Microsoft's booth this morning: approximately five minutes. The wait at Capcom's <em>Resident Evil 5</em> booth? Think "infinity." Check out our gallery below for a quick walkthrough of what the big M's got on display at TGS this year.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/microsoft-booth-tour-tgs-2008/">Microsoft booth tour (TGS 2008)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/microsoft-booth-tour-tgs-2008/#1091257"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/tgs08-ms-booth-tour-10249_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/microsoft-booth-tour-tgs-2008/#1091262"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/tgs08-ms-booth-tour-102410_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/microsoft-booth-tour-tgs-2008/#1091258"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/tgs08-ms-booth-tour-10246_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/microsoft-booth-tour-tgs-2008/#1091265"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/tgs08-ms-booth-tour-10247_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/microsoft-booth-tour-tgs-2008/#1091261"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/tgs08-ms-booth-tour-10245_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/11/tgs-08-picture-tour-microsoft-booth/">TGS 08 picture tour: Microsoft booth</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 11 Oct 2008 01:00:00 EST. For the first two and a half years of the Xbox 360's lifespan, owners eagerly looked forward to regular "spring" and "fall" updates, packing more functionality into their consoles through (what Microsoft marketing would later call) the "magic of software." With the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/22/microsoft-no-spring-dashboard-update-this-year/">absence of a spring update</a> this year and the subsequent announcement of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/New-Xbox-Experience/">New Xbox Experience</a> we wanted to know if Microsoft would return to the biannual updates ... <br /><br />So we asked John Schappert during our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/tgs-08-john-schappert-on-nxe-halo-3-recon-and-xbox-in-japan/">sitdown earlier this week</a> in Tokyo. He said, "I don't know if we're going to tie ourselves to a spring fall release schedule" and continued, "I like staying focused on bigger, more impactful releases ... maybe it'll be twice a year, maybe less frequently, to-be-determined." Speaking of what those future updates could consist of, Schappert said that Microsoft is asking itself, "What's the next big launch? What do we bring? When can we bring it? And how can we do it in a big way?"<br /><br />The NXE is certainly a bigger, more impactful release. We're assuming, however, that Microsoft doesn't plan on reinventing the wheel every couple years in which case what "big" functionality should we expect in future Dashboard updates, regardless of when they're released? No, really, we're asking you.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/new-xbox-experience/">New Xbox Experience</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/new-xbox-experience/#1034211"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/09/2848768817_d02588f68d_o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/new-xbox-experience/#953596"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/new-xbox-experience-guide2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/new-xbox-experience/#953595"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/new-xbox-experience-guide1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/new-xbox-experience/#953592"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/new-xbox-experience-themed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/new-xbox-experience/#953591"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/new-xbox-experience-pinata_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/11/schappert-not-commited-to-biannual-360-dashboard-releases/">Microsoft not committed to biannual 360 dashboard releases</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 11 Oct 2008 00:01:00 EST. Sure, this level appears to pretty much play itself, requiring only occasional input from the player, but it's fast, the graphics are <em>incredible</em>, and the music is classic <em>Sonic</em> silliness. It looks <em>much</em> better than that other <em>Sonic</em> game in which he turns into a werehog with stretchy arms for some reason.<br /><br />... what? That's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-viewing-the-crummy-half-of-sonic-unleashed/"><em>this</em> game</a>? Oh, <em>crumbs.</em> This is how we'd want a 3D <em>Sonic</em> to be --not terribly 3D, and starring Sonic. Even the simplistic "hold right" gameplay is enough to sustain us for the single level we'll enjoy before the werehog, or Sonic's friends, or mandatory Rouge the Bat level, or <em>cutscene</em>, or whatever else shows up to ruin it.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/10/tgs08-sonic-unleashed-and-unbelievably-cool/">TGS08: Sonic Unleashed and unbelievably cool</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Oct 2008 12:41:00 EST. But, wait, before you break out that pen and paper and start writing that angry letter, know this: you're also going to get a fully-featured, bloodtastic game, just like those of us in North America! This time around, you're going to have the option of choosing which version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/No-More-Heroes-2-Desperate-Struggle"><em>No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle</em></a> you want, though we can't imagine why you'd want one without the buckets of blood and over-the-top violence.<br />
<br />
"We won't be able to make the same game for all territories," Suda 51 said. "For Europe, we're going to release two versions. One extreme version, and one with less violence." Why? Well, because so many Europeans bugged him about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/05/comparing-the-censored-and-uncensored-versions-of-no-more-heroes/">the version that released to their territory</a> and how it was the same as the Japanese version of the game. "With <em>No More Heroes 2</em> we want to please the fans too. I want the European users to be able to experience the extreme version."<br />
<br />
So celebrate, Europe. For once, you're being taken seriously!<br />

</center><br />We didn't really have much doubt that the core gameplay in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/06/klonoa-vs-klonoa/"><em>Klonoa: Door to Phantomile</em></a> would be preserved in the Wii remake, especially after seeing how closely the environments matched. But it's nice to see this gameplay video from TGS that proves that it's the same <em>Klonoa</em> as ever. Two more videos from this play session are after the break.<br /><br />In case you missed out on the PlayStation classic, <em>Klonoa'</em>s gameplay focuses on the mechanic of grabbing enemies and either throwing them at other enemies, or jumping and throwing them straight down, allowing Klonoa to do a double jump.<br /><br />Strangely, we think this remake bears a distinct resemblance to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/20/metareview-nights-journey-of-dreams/"><em>NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams</em></a>, another 2.5D platformer (or whatever you want to call <em>NiGHTS</em>) that takes place in the world of dreams.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/10/tgs08-klonoa-video-link-to-phantomile/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TGS08: Klonoa: Video Link to Phantomile</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/10/tgs08-klonoa-video-link-to-phantomile/">TGS08: Klonoa: Video Link to Phantomile</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Oct 2008 09:00:00 EST. <span style="float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-top: 7px;"> <script> var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/xbox/TGS_08_Bungie_details_Halo_3_Recon'; </script> <script src="http://digg.com/api/diggthis.js"></script></span> After several months of unplanned silence ("This was the project <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/bungie-e3-game-announcement-pulled-by-publisher/">we originally were intending to announce at E3,</a>" they say), Bungie finally revealed <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Halo-3-Recon/">Halo 3: Recon</a></em> at TGS. We had an opportunity to talk with Luke Smith and Brian Jerrard during a group meeting in Tokyo this morning and Jerrard briefly addressed some of the more obvious questions we were bound to have:<br />
<ul>
    <li>"It will be a standalone disc sold in stores in boxes next Fall. It's also going to include some multiplayer maps."</li>
    <li>"It is a first-person shooter still ... It's not a squad-based shooter."</li>
    <li>"As an ODST, compared to playing as in invulnerable Spartan, you are going to have to sort of pick and choose your encounters a little bit differently."</li>
    <li>"It is going to very much feel like Halo. Full feature parity."</li>
</ul>
That out of the way, Jerrard explained that <span style="font-style: italic;">Recon</span> isn't the only thing Bungie's been up to since <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/05/its-official-bungie-branches-off-from-microsoft/">jumping off the Microsoft Express this time last year</a>: "This is one of a few projects that we're currently working on. This is the first time at Bungie we've actually had multiple things happening at once and not just, every three years, doing the massive game release." In order to develop <span style="font-style: italic;">Recon</span>, Bungie used a "small agile team" made up of a "bunch of elders" who started the <em>Halo: Combat Evolved</em> franchise some seven years ago (that doesn't sound like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/15/ghost-recon-creative-director-moves-to-bungie/">ex-GRAWer Christian Allen</a> to us). Who better than to deliver a "bit of a departure" from the last three titles? <br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/halo-3-recon-1/">Halo 3: ODST Controller &amp; Pack Shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/halo-3-recon-1/#1088234"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/halo.recon.box.2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/halo-3-recon-1/#2048991"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/halo3_wl_controller_01-cx-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/halo-3-recon-1/#1086681"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/1280x1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/halo-3-recon-1/#1086682"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/a_halo3_recon-04-layered_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/halo-3-recon-1/#1086683"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/a_halo3_recon-03-layered_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/10/tgs-08-bungie-details-halo-3-recon/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TGS 08: Bungie details Halo 3: Recon</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/10/tgs-08-bungie-details-halo-3-recon/">TGS 08: Bungie details Halo 3: Recon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Oct 2008 00:30:00 EST. Were you worried your procrastination would be irrevocable when you learned that <em>Rocky &amp; Bullwinkle</em> - an Xbox Live Arcade title you'd flirted with for months - could have been summarily "delisted" from the 360's Marketplace for no reason other than a horrible review average and a notable lack of enthusiasm from the console's constituents? <br /><br />Fret no more! Microsoft's John Schappert told us yesterday that the company has "no immediate plans to act on delisting" and, in fact, that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/26/download-now-or-forever-hold-your-points-potential-delisted-xb/">little brouhaha earlier this year</a> was simply the company setting "parameters by which [they] can delist" content. With the New Xbox Experience promising an easier-to-use Marketplace, the existing retail mess will (ostensibly) be cleaned up and the XBLA shovelware shouldn't get in the way of what you're really there for: <em>Rocky and Bullwinkle</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/schappert-no-immediate-plans-to-delist-xbla-titles/">Schappert: 'No immediate plans' to delist XBLA titles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Oct 2008 22:28:00 EST. Following <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/joystiq-live-from-microsofts-tgs-2008-press-conference/">his TGS keynote</a>, Microsoft's John Schappert crammed himself into a stuffy hotel room with about a dozen representatives from various gaming outlets, including yours truly. Tasked with peppering Schappert with questions, we asked about the sales figures he cited in the keynote (were those worldwide figures?), the decision to delay the <span style="font-style: italic;">Halo 3: Recon</span> announcement from E3 to TGS (do the Japanese even play <em>Halo</em>?), the spring / fall update schedule, and Microsoft's plans to delist XBLA content (don't hold your breath). Instead of reading our condensed version, we've embedded the audio below for your listening pleasure. <br /><br /><strong>[<a href="http://stadium.weblogsinc.com/joystiq/audio/TGS08-john-schappert-group.mp3">MP3 download</a>]</strong><br /><br /> <object width="290" height="24" type=""application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.weblogsinc.com/media/audio_player.swf"> <param value="http://www.weblogsinc.com/media/audio_player.swf" name="movie" /> <param value="soundFile=http://stadium.weblogsinc.com/joystiq/audio/TGS08-john-schappert-group.mp3" name="FlashVars" /> <param value="high" name="quality" /> <param value="false" name="menu" /> <param value="transparent" name="wmode" /></object><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/tgs-08-john-schappert-on-nxe-halo-3-recon-and-xbox-in-japan/">TGS 08: John Schappert on NXE, Halo 3: Recon, and Xbox in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Oct 2008 21:01:00 EST. If you're reading this you're in the minority of Joystiq readers who haven't skipped down the page at the sight of the words: <em>Monster Hunter</em>. Clearly you're either a Westerner, curious about what the big deal is, or you're standing in line to play the third installment of the series <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/tgs-08-monster-hunter-3-is-kind-of-a-big-deal-part-1/">right now</a>. Within ten minutes of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tgs-2008/">TGS</a> show floor opening, the line for this game was four and a half hours long. On a press day, no less. Thankfully, we had a considerably shorter wait inside Capcom's base (a hotel room), where we tried out the latest console version of one of Japan's favorite franchises.<br /><br />While the series move from PlayStation 3 to Wii can be attributed to cutting development costs, no expense has been spared on the game's visuals. <em>Monster Hunter 3</em> (or "<em>Monster Hunter Tri~</em>" ... ?) is one of the sharpest Wii games we've seen. It's also immediately recognizable as a <em>Monster Hunter</em> game. There's been no style change at all from other versions, just an upscaling of models and textures. The game's water looks impressive for a Wii title, which is important because <em>Monster Hunter 3</em> is the first game in the series where you'll be going swimming.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-1/">Monster Hunter 3</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-1/#1088151"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/monsterhunter3tgs091008854_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-1/#1088152"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/monsterhunter3tgs0910081024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-1/#1088153"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/monsterhunter34tgs091008854_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-1/#1088154"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/monsterhunter35tgs091008854_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-1/#1088155"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/monsterhunter36tgs091008854_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/tgs-08-monster-hunter-3-hands-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TGS 08: Monster Hunter 3 hands-on</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/tgs-08-monster-hunter-3-hands-on/">TGS 08: Monster Hunter 3 hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Oct 2008 20:30:00 EST. We've known about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/arc-rise-fantasia"><em>Arc Rise Fantasia</em></a> for quite awhile now. Up until today, we've had to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/arc-rise-fantasia-and-its-hammerhead-turtle-in-screens/">look at screens</a> with envy, as the title was not confirmed for a North American release. Sure, we hoped it would happen, but there weren't any guarantees. That is, until now.<br /><br />According to the press release that just hit our inbox, fresh from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tgs08">TGS</a>, the game is scheduled to release sometime in 2009. Sadly, we don't have any kind of idea as to <em>when</em> in 2009 we'll be able to get our hands on this game, but, hey, at least we now know it's coming.<br /><br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/tgs08-arc-rise-fantasia-to-make-north-american-dreams-come-true/">TGS08: Arc Rise Fantasia to make North American dreams come true</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Oct 2008 19:08:00 EST. The big announcement at Capcom's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/22/tatsunoko-vs-capcom-controls-want-to-be-friends-with-everybody/"><em>Tatsunoko vs. Capcom</em></a> stage event involved two new characters, one from each of the companies from which the cast of the game is drawn. On the Tatsunoko side, Jun the Swan from <em>Gatchaman</em>. On the Capcom side, Mega Man's sister, Roll! Strangely, this <em>isn't</em> Roll Caskett from <em>Mega Man Legends</em>, from whence this game's Mega Man originates; rather, this is the classic Roll. With her broom.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3170483">1up's James Mielke</a> took in a playable demo of the Wii version of <em>Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes</em> at TGS, and basically raved about it, saying that it "may just be the neo-2D fighter to beat in the upcoming months." He praises the admirable performance of the Classic Controller for the game, as well.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/tatsunoko-vs-roll/">Tatsunoko vs. Roll</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Oct 2008 16:20:00 EST. It's been over two months since we last saw <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/tag/infamous"><em>InFamous</em></a>, but developer Sucker Punch took some time at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tgs-2008/">TGS</a> to show us how it's progressing. <em>So how's it look?</em> Pretty much the same as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/joystiq-e3-eyes-on-infamous/">last time</a>. The demonstration was set in a different part of the in-game city, but very little new gameplay was actually revealed.<br />
<br />
Sucker Punch's Ken Schramm guided us through a mission, titled "Blood Trail," while senior producer Grady Hunt talked us through what was going on. The level is fairly early in the game -- about five missions in -- and has protagonist Cole discovering a new power. "Post-Cognition" allows you to read people's memories; in this case, giving you a new objective. A dead woman's mind (do dead people still have minds?) reveals an "echo" of her running through the streets towards a Reaper hideout.<br />

It's been over two months since we last saw <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/infamous"><em>InFamous</em></a>, but developer Sucker Punch took some time at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tgs-2008/">TGS</a> to show us how it's progressing.
<br />
