The first game we picked was Taito's perennial action puzzler, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/30/that-should-be-on-xbla-bubble-bobble/">Bubble Bobble</a>. </em>The idea behind "That should be on XBLA" is to get developers to notice that their games belong on Xbox Live Arcade.<br /><br />It looks like Taito was listening. Taito's publishing company, Empire Interactive, has a <a href="http://forum.empireinteractive.com/default.aspx?MID=66831B646D0C&amp;TID=A95BCEFE-F198-4F3A-B669-680CD74B2117&amp;SHT=31&amp;PN=1&amp;GET=LAST">thread</a> running in their forum right now, which reads thusly:<br /><br />"<em>Hi All <br /><br />I hope you can help us out with a bit of retro advice, If you were to pay to download a Taito Classic what would your top 3 be ?? <br /><br />Also, without giving the game away :) would online multiplayer be important to you downloading it ?? <br /><br />Come on guys - post your lists and let us know what you want.</em>"<br /><br />While the post doesn't directly mention Xbox Live, we're pretty sure that's what this is all about. We're also pretty sure he's talking about <em>Bubble Bobble </em>with that question about online multiplayer. Note to Taito: hell yes, online multiplayer is important!<br /><br />So, make your voices heard, loyal readers! Registering for Empire Interactive's <a href="http://forum.empireinteractive.com/default.aspx?MID=66831B646D0C&amp;TID=A95BCEFE-F198-4F3A-B669-680CD74B2117&amp;SHT=31&amp;PN=1&amp;GET=LAST">forums</a> is a snap. Go do it and tell 'em what you want (and don't forget to tell them who sent you). Our list looks like this:<br />
<ol>
    <li><em>Bubble Bobble</em></li>
    <li><em>Arkanoid</em></li>
    <li><em>New Zealand Story</em></li>
</ol>
It's not like you can play any Xbox Live today anyway. You might as well do something constructive.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xboxic.com/news/1803">Xboxic</a>]<br /><br /><strong>See Also:<br /></strong><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/thatshouldbeonxbla">That should be on XBLA series</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/17/help-us-put-bubble-bobble-on-xbla/">Help us put Bubble Bobble on XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Oct 2006 10:30:00 EST. This week, it's the arcade classic, <em>Raiden </em>(no, not that effeminate guy from <em>MGS</em>). If you've never played <em>Raiden</em>, then all you really need to know is that it's chock-full of shootery goodness. Read on to to discover the joy of <em>Raiden</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/16/that-should-be-on-xbla-raiden/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>That should be on XBLA: Raiden</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/16/that-should-be-on-xbla-raiden/">That should be on XBLA: Raiden</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 16 Oct 2006 12:30:00 EST. Shake the magic 8 ball with us ... "signs point to <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/loderunner">Lode Runner</a>." </em>Check out this detective work on <a href="http://ilovexbla.blogspot.com/2006/09/major-xbox-live-arcade-game-next-week.html">IloveXBLA.com</a>:<br />
<font size="1"><font face="verdana,arial, helvetica,"><br />
</font></font><em>"No joke, I'm fairly certain I figured it out. Let's look at the trail of tips.</em>
<ul>
    <li><em>Ross Erickson says that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/15/microsoft-lode-runner-in-a-safe-place/">Lode Runner in very good hands</a>, which would dictate hands that want to put it on Xbox Live Arcade (since he wants the game).</em></li>
    <li><em>Luke Smith <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3153726">thinks it might be Bomberman</a></em></li>
    <li><em>On this <a href="http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/2006/09/20/537508.aspx">GamerScore blog post</a> they dropped a hint that Peter Moore said "what happens in Shinjuku stays in Shinjuku."</em></li>
    <li><em>Later on this <a href="http://www.gamertagradio.com/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?s=&amp;threadid=2368">GamerTag Radio thread</a> Microsoft's John Porcaro dropped a hint that "what happens in Montana stays in Montana".</em></li>
</ul>
<em>Ok, so with the current hints down how did I make the connection. Here's my timeline.</em>
<ul>
    <li><em>I originally thought the game must be Bomberman, so I was looking for links between Shinjuku, Montana and Hudson Entertainment the creators of </em>Bomberman<em>. Score! <strong>Hudson Soft <a href="http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&amp;ct=res&amp;cd=2&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hudson.co.jp%2Fcorp%2Feng%2Fcoinfo%2Fhistory.html&amp;ei=GrgSRdeNHsOsigHnhs3WCQ&amp;sig=__j6cYo8qNz-x4uZckDu2IuyjyoTQ=&amp;sig2=vySQURBDnNpbHiyk7xtnBQ">moved to Shinjuku in 1985</a> shortly before releasing </strong></em><strong>Bomberman</strong><em><strong>.</strong></em></li>
    <li><em>While on the page I noticed <strong>Hudson Software also released </strong></em><strong>Lode Runner</strong><em><strong> for NES, and remembered they are currently doing a DS version</strong>.</em></li>
    <li><em>Lode Runner was originally published by Broderbund, who <a href="http://montana.uscity.net/Digital/Software/index.html">operate out of MONTANA</a>.</em></li>
    <li><em>According to <a href="http://www.gamedevmap.com/">Game Dev Map</a> there are no current game developers operating in Montana.</em></li>
</ul>
<em>I don't think it can get any clearer than that. Case closed in my opinion, next week's release is <strong>Lode Runner</strong>!"<br />
<br />
</em>Nice work. We couldn't agree more. <em>Lode Runner</em> is definitely a major franchise worthy of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/21/mysterious-xbla-franchise-still-a-mystery/">hype</a> that we've <strike>generated</strike> seen in the last week. What do you think? Did these guys nail it, or is it something else?<br />
<br />

This week it's Tecmo's <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solomon%27s_Key">Solomon's Key</a> </em>(submitted by ctrl-alt-del). <em>Solomon's Key</em>, like many arcade puzzlers of its time, has a simple formula. It's easy to pick up and play -- you should be able to get through the first few levels easily -- but it get's <em>much</em> harder as you progress. Equal parts strategy and reflex, <em>Solomon's Key</em> is yet another example of a great game for Xbox Live Arcade (and the ladies love it). Read on to discover its block destroying devilry.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/18/that-should-be-on-xbla-solomons-key/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>That should be on XBLA: Solomon's Key</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/18/that-should-be-on-xbla-solomons-key/">That should be on XBLA: Solomon's Key</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Sep 2006 13:00:00 EST. To wit:<br /><br /><em>"Rest assured, </em>Lode Runner <em>is now in a VERY SAFE place.... :-)"</em><br /><br />We decided to hit up Ross' inbox and get a little clarification. Long story short is this: Doug Smith, creator of <em>Lode Runner</em>, has indeed recovered and sold the rights to another company -- a VERY SAFE company (please, not EA). This is significant because many older IPs can get lost in the fray. The fact that <em>Lode Runner</em> has a definite owner bodes well for its future on XBLA (and in general). We know that Mr. Erickson has a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/25/joystiq-interviews-xblas-ross-erickson/">soft spot</a> for the game so, here's hoping Microsoft will throw us a bone. However, after going through the comments, we've decided to revise our rules a little bit. A few of our readers <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/05/that-should-be-on-xbla-power-stone/1#c2035889">pointed</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/05/that-should-be-on-xbla-power-stone/2#c2063201">out</a> that they'd rather see a full blown next gen sequel to <em>Power Stone</em> rather than a Live Arcade rehash. You know what fanboys? You're right. From now on we will try and steer clear of games that might actually get legitimate sequels. And with that out of the way, we present this week's pick, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lode_Runner"><em>Lode Runner</em></a> (as submitted by BklynKid). A puzzle game of the highest order, <em>Lode Runner</em> has all the right curves in all the right places for an XBLA title. The game is simple, fun, addictive, and easy to play in quick bursts. Read on to find out what makes <em>Lode Runner</em> super special.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/11/that-should-be-on-xbla-lode-runner/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>That should be on XBLA: Lode Runner</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/11/that-should-be-on-xbla-lode-runner/">That should be on XBLA: Lode Runner</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Sep 2006 11:30:00 EST. This week: <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Stone">Power Stone</a>. One of the first games released for SEGA's ill fated Dreamcast, <span style="font-style: italic;">Power Stone</span> was a gorgeous and innovative fighter in it's day. Part <span style="font-style: italic;">Smash Brothers</span> and part Jackie Chan, <span style="font-style: italic;">Power Stone</span> allowed players to use anything and everything to win a fight. Of course, the eponymous power stones were a big help as well. Read on to see why this overlooked Capcom classic would make a great addition to Live Arcade.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/05/that-should-be-on-xbla-power-stone/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>That should be on XBLA: Power Stone</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/05/that-should-be-on-xbla-power-stone/">That should be on XBLA: Power Stone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Sep 2006 11:30:00 EST. We've already seen some great games for the service, some originals (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/19/cloning-clyde-interview-with-john-nielson/"><em>Cloning Clyde</em></a>) and some retro classics (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/28/360-fanboy-asks-what-are-you-playing/"><em>Street Fighter II</em></a>). Naturally, we're all <em>over</em> original content. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/20/crashing-castles-on-xbox-live-arcade/">Castle Crashers</a> just may be the most anticipated title at X360F (according to Chris Grant after it was announced, "I mean, <em>Castle Crashers</em>? How f*cking cool is that?" So, yes, XBLA will surely be a font of great original content, but there are still those among us who pine for more companies to sell us our youth. As such, we've decided to pick a game that's ripe for XBLA: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bubble_Bobble"><em>Bubble Bobble</em></a>. For those unfamiliar with the game, <em>Bubble Bobble</em> puts you in the shoes of two boys (named Bub and Bob, natch) who've had their ladies stolen away. As if that weren't enough, the boys are subsequently turned into dragons, and not kick ass fire breathing dragons either. Nope, these dragons blow <em>bubbles</em>. <br /><br />These bubbles, as you might imagine, are the primary gameplay mechanic. They're used to trap and kill enemies, and also as platforms. The game has a very strong puzzle dynamic and gets <em>insanely</em> difficult as you progress through the 100+ levels. And, of course, like all great games, <em>Bubble Bobble</em> features cooperative play -- and the most annoyingly catchy music ever to grace a videogame. <br /><br />In short, it's a simple, fun game that's easy for <em>anyone</em> to pick up and play. Make sure it has local <em>and</em> Live multiplayer, add leaderboards and some sweet achievements, and you've got the perfect candidate for XBLA. Do you, our loyal readers, agree? What other great games would you like to see on XBLA? Give us some ideas in the comments and we'll post a new candidate every week or so. Try and keep them realistic, obviously we won't be seeing any Mario on XBLA. Believe or not, companies <em>do</em> read our blog and they keep track of what people are saying. So, join us and we might even influence a little Live Arcade history.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/30/that-should-be-on-xbla-bubble-bobble/">That should be on XBLA: Bubble Bobble</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Aug 2006 09:30:00 EST.
