If you're a supporter of all of Sega's ludological offerings -- not just the ones that include attitude-infused blue rodents -- you'll want to check out the Sega Complete Pack on Steam. For $90, you can grab all of Sega's PC games currently available on the platform; a list that includes Empire: Total War (and all its expansions), Space Siege, The Club, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, Aliens vs. Predator and a whole lot more. (Sorry Mac users, but almost all of these games are still only available to the Windows crowd.)

If you're looking for something a bit more cost-efficient, Steam is also offering Aliens vs. Predator alone at half price, for $24.99. But why not chip in the extra $65 and pick up more Total War games than you could ever play in a single lifetime? That seems like a sound economic decision to us.
Grab every Sega game on Steam for $90 originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 18 May 2010 23:30:00 EST. Let's get this started with a bang; if you're a fan of video games, then you will absolutely love The Club. And after playing through everything the game had to offer, I was left with one all-important question that I still can't answer, "Why the hell did it take a developer this long to make this game?"

Let's face it, many of today's games try to do so many things at once that they're often their own worst enemy. Thankfully, the guys and gals at Bizarre Creations didn't let themselves get bogged down with superfluous storytelling or any of the other myriad of problems that plague many of today's games.

Instead, they traveled back in time to the Golden Age of gaming when points reigned king and everything else was a mere afterthought. Those were truly the good ol' days because gaming was all about skill then, and that's exactly what you'll need if you plan on being any good at The Club.

For the thorough achievement hunter, there are an elite series of Gamerscore garnering goals that the softcore gamer is not likely to possess, such as Dead Rising's Zombie Genocider achievement, or, well, most of the achievements from Chromehounds. One stands out above the rest, though, requiring a great deal of time and skill to earn -- the "Seriously" achievement from Gears of War. Getting 10,000 kills in ranked multiplayer earns you 50 Gamerpoints, and hopefully, a concerned intervention from a few of your closest loved ones.

Bizarre Creations' latest project The Club gives a hearty nod towards the life-consuming achievement with one of their own -- the cleverly titled "No, Seriously" requires you to kill 10,001 opponents in ranked online matches. Oh, we see what you did there. We'll have to wait until Feb. 19 to see if the game is good enough to merit that kind of time investment, and if Bizarre ripped anything else off of Gears -- such as a steroid-infused protagonist that speaks with the eloquence of Tourette's suffering sailor.
The Club nods at Gears of War's 'Seriously' achievement originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 10 Feb 2008 13:30:00 EST. But you'll have to work for them.

The Club Launch Competition is open to anyone who owns a copy of The Club (yes, our PS3 friends get to participate as well) and has the skills to rack up highest score. Simply put, Bizarre wants to find the best The Club player in the world and reward them with autographed goods and random studio bits. Anyway, let's get to the entry specifics. To enter the launch competition, simply play The Club's Warehouse location, choose Downtown Dash, play on expert difficulty and get the highest score possible. Then, if you think you've earned a high enough score, post your point total in the comments section of their post by March 31st and that's it. Also know that you must be connected to Xbox Live when attempting your scoring feat, because they'll be confirming players' scores via the online leaderboards. Download the demo, get practicing and hone your skills. We know you'll make us proud.

Win Bizarre swag in The Club Launch Competition originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 08 Feb 2008 15:00:00 EST. So creative, they somehow managed to one-up Gears of War's "Seriously" achievement.

Looking over The Club's achievements one will quickly notice an achievement by the name of "No, Seriously" which can only be earned if a player gets 10,001 kills in ranked multiplayer. This, of course, is a direct reference to GoW's famous (and nearly impossible to obtain) "Seriously" achievement where gamers must rack up some 10,000 ranked kills. As you see, The Club's "No, Seriously" requires an extra kill. Nicely played Bizarre, nicely played.

Though, we're sorry to say that Gears' "Seriously" will forever be held high atop our list of most respected achievements and can never be replaced or duplicated, even if it only requires 10,000 kills to unlock. Heck, "No, Seriously" will only net you 40 Gamerscore, ten less Gamerscore than the the original "Seriously". It must not be as l33t of an achievement as it's made out to be ... just saying Bizarre, just saying.

[Thanks, Scott (HHHawk)]
The Club one-ups GoW's Seriously achievement originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 07 Feb 2008 16:30:00 EST.
In our hands-on with The Club's PlayStation Network demo, we weren't too entirely impressed. However, we plan to wash our hands of that experience when we finally get a chance to play the full game. In the mean time, though, several of the key players responsible for The Club's creation want to tell you what sets the game apart from every other third-person shooter on the market.

Bizarre Creations is banking on the fact that gamer's natural drive for competition will help The Club sell as the game's focus isn't on level progression or story development, but rather chaining kills together to score the most points possible.

Whether it succeeds in that goal or not, one thing's for sure, Bizarre Creations is most certainly living up to its name with such an original take on an otherwise increasingly stale genre.

Bizarre Creations explains why you should join The Club originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 07 Feb 2008 06:00:00 EST.
While Europeans have been enjoying being members of The Club since the end of December, this Thursday it's America's turn to get their membership cards officially stamped. A demo of the game will be released this Thursday on the American PSN Store, just in case those of you who are really anticipating the game (all six of you!) haven't downloaded it already from the EU Store.

The demo gives you a taste of the bizarre gameplay modes included in The Club. This very arcadey shooter has a variety of influences (such as kart racing, perhaps?). Which might sound interesting, but we suspect there's a reason it hasn't been done before. Soon, you'll be able to give Bizarre Creation's latest a go and see what you think.

But then, we had a revelation: That's what it's like every day in countries that aren't America. We were so moved that we bought a red-white-and-blue T-shirt and six of Miller High Life to celebrate our appreciation for our homeland. Now, our patience has been rewarded, with the demo finally hitting Xbox Live.
If you need more encouragement to check it out, you should know that Tycho from Penny Arcade said nice things about it, which is good enough for us. Typically, the guys use their power to steer you towards the finer things, (unlike our power, used only to win fights in the comments section). But will you be joining The Club? This 1.36GB demo download has been under a lot of heat lately, with gamers sounding off that they are either in love with it or despise its very existence. But that's exactly why demos are released, they're for you to garner your own opinion. Makes sense. Go get downloading and garnering fellow North American fanboys, you're now a part of The Club ... even though you have yet to send in your club registration fee. Get it in by next week though.
North America is now a part of The Club (demo) originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 22 Jan 2008 09:15:00 EST. GameTrailers has posted some new footage from the upcoming Bizarre Creations arcade shooter The Club. A fast paced action game in the vein of Geometry Wars (with a few more polygons added), the game rewards players for dispatching enemies and dispatching them quickly. Featured prominently on the game's HUD is a score multiplier that increases with each successive kill. Wait too long and the multiplier drains fast. It's an interesting way to treat a third person shooter, and frankly it's a welcome change. Sometimes you don't want to bother with all that thinky-stinky stuff required by the likes of Rainbow Six and GRAW, you know? Also, given that the game's stages are really more like courses, leaderboard hogs should definitely be keeping an eye on The Club. Now where's that US demo?

And just as we mentioned earlier, The Club demo is a limited release that is not available for download in North America, Germany or Asia, but everyone other Live region will be able to play the 1.36GB demo. Also, the new Rock Band DLC, which includes three songs from Iron Maiden, Stone Temple Pilots and The Hives, are now available for 160 points each. We posted details about the Rock Band DLC after the break, so feel free to check that out if you're feeling clickity clicky.

That should wrap up all the major new XBLM downloads for the day and should keep you busy if you either live outside of North America or if you have Rock Band. If not ... well, just go download an XBLA trial or something. Well, we didn't have to wait long for SEGA to confirm news that tomorrow morning, January 8th, The Club demo will release to the XBLM for our friends in the UK and Australia. You read correctly. The US, Canada, Mexico and every other Live region is being left out of demo goodness for the time being, so be proud fellow UK and Aussie Live subscribers. You're getting content first for a change. W00t for you.

So, if you are in a region that the demo releases in, Bizarre already confirmed that you'll be treated to a The Club demo featuring the prison level "Escape from Newhaven", two single player game modes including Time Attack and Sprint as well as split screen multiplayer. He also mentions that the demo will rollout to the Marketplace as a "staggered launch for all of the regions", which means it will not be a worldwide release. Here's to hoping the US, Canada or Europe don't get shafted.

The Club demo is coming soon fanboys, so get excited, keep your eyes open and your focus directed at the Xbox Live Marketplace for the time being. Most notable to us, of course, are the 360 games on the list. Probably the biggest title on the list is Condemned 2: Bloodshot, the sequel to one of the 360's better launch titles, which releases March 14 across the pond. The other titles on the list are as follows:

The Club - February 8

Universe at War - March 7

Viking: Battle for Asgard - March 28

SEGA Superstars Tennis - March 28

Naturally, we can expect that these titles should hit North America at approximately the same time. Anyone out there looking forward to any of these titles?
Sega dates Q1 games for Europe originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 04 Jan 2008 17:15:00 EST.
After playing through the newly released demo of The Club, we have to admit we're not completely blown away. From what we've gathered, the game feels pretty much like any generic third-person shooter with a tacked-on point system. Additionally, we never really got the feeling of excitement of the supposed fast-paced action that we were promised.

Also, we're a bit dismayed by the confusing button layout. Who ever thought it'd be a good idea to map the sprint and shoot actions to the R1 and R2 button, respectively? On the plus side, there are a variety of interesting looking characters, a few of whom are a bit cliche, but they appear to have some decent background stories that we can only hope Bizarre Creations delves a bit in to.

In the end, though, the game's saving grace might be its multiplayer, which pits several players against each other as they run through the level trying to rack up the most combos and gain the most points to win. Bizarre and Sega have until February to hopefully rectify some of these issues before The Club is released.

See The Club demo in action originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 29 Dec 2007 11:00:00 EST. Soon after that, scheduled for the month of February but given no specific day, is Condemned 2. It looks like February is going to be another month where we find our money flying out the window, much like how November has been. If you're unsure what either game is, the former is a mish-mash of genre, and the latter is a pretty intense horror/action game.
The Club and Condemned 2 due out in February originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 29 Nov 2007 12:15:00 EST. Doing well in the club centers around making kills quickly and efficiently. It also helps to accomplish kills in a stylish manner. Bizarre Creations themselves have described the game as being similar to their own Geometry Wars, in that the goal is to increase the multiplier and aim for the highest possible score. It is this quick scoring mechanic that sets it apart from other third person shooters on the market. To get a feel for what the game is like, check out the video embedded above.

It will be interesting to see how The Club fares against the more story-driven shooters on the market.
The Club tutorial talks speed, precision, style originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 09 Nov 2007 17:30:00 EST. The trailer is very slick, showing off the cast of the arcade shooter. The characters run the gamut of generic badasses: there's the square-jawed Russian, the tough cop (gone bad?), the obstinate Irishman, and ... well, a crazy guy in a rain slicker. There's even a guy named -- we kid you not -- Killen. But what's a cool trailer without little gameplay? Nothing, that's what. So, we've included a gameplay trailer after the break. The Club is a little different from most 3rd person shooters, as its main focus is constant action. The faster you make your kills, the more your score multiplier increases. When Bizarre Creations is not driving fast cars or pulverizing polygons, the Liverpool-based developer likes to blast bullets at a blistering rate with little regard for their surroundings. According to a press release from publisher Sega, their incoming shoot 'em up The Club will ship this February for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, hopefully just in time for Valentine's Day.

In the meantime, check out our impressions of the title from E3. And speaking of shoot 'em ups, we hear Clive Owen's new film has an action sequence or two.
Bizarre Creation's next big title, Project Gotham Racing notwithstanding, is The Club, a pretty over-the-shoulder shooter with an arcade twist. Don't worry about a story: each level takes approximately five minutes to finish, and the point of the game is to achieve higher scores.

We got a chance to try out the prison level. The pace is brisk and aiming is easy. Where the challenge is going to lie is maintaining a combo multiplier, which drops when you miss a shot. You can also increase the multiplier by shooting skull signs. In our initial run through, we only found two skulls, meaning we'll have a lot more exploration to do upon its release. Blue barrels cause big explosions and major points, which is a plus.

The game is challenging enough and we did have enough near death experiences. We tried easy mode, meaning health packs are plentiful, but the other difficulty level reportedly ramps up noticeably. Each of the eight levels have six to eight game modes each, and each one has its own target score you need to earn a medal, dubbed "bullets." Four-player split screen and deathmatch will be available in the final game. The point of this game was quick, fun experiences. We're looking forward to this game when it releases early 2008 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
SEGA isn't giving out concrete dates, but has announced that Xbox 360 games Virtua Fighter 5 and SEGA Rally Revo will be available this Fall, The Golden Compass this December, Condemned 2: Bloodshot is penciled in for February, Iron Man next Spring, Universe at War: Earth Assault Q1 of 2008, and The Club will make its way to retailers Winter 2008. So, later this year SEGA will grace us with some online Virtua Fighter 5, SEGA Rally Revo and The Golden Compass and anything releasing in 2008 we won't comment on, because 2008 is way too far in the future for our A.D.D. minds to care about. Bring on the 2007 games!
SEGA: Rally Revo this Fall, Condemned 2 in Feb originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 10 Jul 2007 13:30:00 EST. Thick and visceral, The Club is all about head-shots and body count. Nick Davies, Bizarre Creations design manager, says "it's everything that Splinter Cell and Gears of War isn't." And boy, he isn't kidding. Wearing a bullet-proof vest, the game-play demonstration showed an on-screen character running directly towards baddies and firing multiple rounds. There is no ducking for cover here, and certainly no stealth. What sets the game apart is its implementation of a combo system where points are multiplied with head-shots, explosions and all varieties of interesting kills. In order to keep you focused on the task at hand, the combo meter begins to drain between gaps in the killing, so best to head towards large occupied rooms. In addition to the details gathered on our last look at The Club, it seems levels are broken up in pieces, allowing you to tackle these "bite-sized challenges" in any order you'd like, one at a time.

There is something strangle fun and yet, sickening about the game I can't quite put a finger on. Nevertheless, take a gander at more details of the quick preview and share with us your opinions. Is this a game that will be on your radar? Or are you sick and tired of shooters and yearn for more non-violent gaming?
The Club excels with killing spree combos originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 10 May 2007 20:00:00 EST. Next Gen recently took a long look at Bizarre Creations' The Club. Touched on briefly before, The Club is a 3rd person action shooter being published by SEGA. We imagine many fanboys are already thinking that the Xbox 360 has enough 3rd person shooters as is, but The Club looks to offer something different. Yeah, we've heard that before, but Bizarre looks like they're set to deliver.
Continue reading The Club: 3rd person Geo Wars on steroids

The Club: 3rd person Geo Wars on steroids originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 04 May 2007 15:35:00 EST. Let's see what they have to say about this third-person shooter based on skill, timing, and fun.

The game is based on skill and performance -- not fragging enemies. Sure, hitting enemies is the idea, but you get points and multipliers based on your abilities. Sort of a throwback to things like House of the Dead, but third-person and against other players.

The level layout varies from linear to non-linear, giving those with knowledge of the maps a smaller advantage than some other online titles.

Enemies spawn semi-randomly -- no real "spawn points" for you to camp at and rack up the points. Enemy AI is treated with care, so don't expect a walk in the park on higher difficulties, either. They'll react differently depending on your reactions or how the battle is progressing as well as look different physically. Variation is good.

Contemporary, but numerous guns will be available. However, bigger guns doesn't mean the most points -- using the right tool in the right circumstance is key.

Single-player mode will boast about 50 levels across 8 environments with a variety of game modes. Each of the playable characters has their own story, too.

Look for this game on the PS3 and 360 before the end of the year. It seems like it'll be a fun PS3 Fanboy community game, if nothing else. Hopefully it'll be easy to organize matches.
Welcome to The Club, may I take your coat... and life? originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 13 Apr 2007 15:30:00 EST. Aside from mind blowing videos of EA producers with too much time (or skills) on the hands, Bizarre had a nice studio update this week. On The Club side of things, they revealed that several levels are now reaching the standard they set forth graphically to meet, as well as rapidly approaching having all the content present in the game, in one form or another. They also teased about having something special to show us regarding The Club in the near future.

Back with Boom Boom Rocket, Ben gave us word that the game has hit Partnernet this week, and is close to launching, though they haven't decided on a date yet. He also showed off the Bonus Run's graphical style with a slew of screenshots, complete with Geometry War style shockwaves, rising water levels and reflecting windows on skyscrapers. Check out the other screenshots by clicking the "Read" link.
BBR and The Club updates from Bizarre originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 26 Mar 2007 19:45:00 EST. Xboxygen posted up some more pictures of The Club, Bizarre Creations' upcoming action-shooter. Our first shot of the game looked very pretty and the four new ones are no different. The character models look realistic, and very promising considering where the game is in terms of development. Lighting from muzzle flash and other sources also look like they're coming along nicely. Click the "Read" link to give them the once over. What do you think? Can Bizarre Creations make a quality shooter this side of Fur Fighters?
More screenshots of The Club originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 23 Mar 2007 12:45:00 EST. German site Xbox Front got their hands on the first screenshot of Bizarre's upcoming action-shooter, The Club. The cool thing about this is it will retain a "Kudos"-ish system wherein you get points and multipliers for kills done in quick succession. For those of you nay-sayers that Bizarre is incapable of pulling off a shooting game, look no further than their Dreamcast release of Fur Fighters. While that cutesy third person shooter had a couple bugs here and there, it was a fluffing good time. Do you think Bizarre can pull it off? The full resolution screenshot is also available to what the engine can do.
This week's Studio Update from Bizarre Creations touches on their upcoming third person action title, The Club. Unfortunately, their update is more about the tech behind the game, but teases that next week will touch on gameplay and all that fun stuff. It gives good insight on how their teams works together and what a studio tour is like from their perspective. Their bits on particle and water effects are rather interesting, and it even has a really cool wireframe screenshot of a explosion of cubes with fire and smoke effects. They also go into the character creation process from concept to modeling. A good read, and it leaves us wanting more, which we'll get next week, thankfully. Are you a Bizarre fan, and been looking forward to another action game from them since Fur Fighters?
The Club mini-update originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 23 Feb 2007 15:45:00 EST. I mean, "meet me at the mall, it's goin' down"? How about my knee meets your groin? That would at least make you sing with a little bit of tone sensitivity. Anyway, rants about annoying radio station's programming aside, SEGA has finally let slip some new info about their third-person action shooter, The Club.

To quote WorthPlaying, "The Club mixes the best elements from action shooters with arcade accessibility, the pace of racing games and a story structure based on fighting games." Which, if you like any of the above genres, is a tough link to make in your mind. So, it's twitch-kill, fast-paced, and a large cast of characters fighting in a tournament of sorts for personal causes? Yep, that really about sums it up. You could call it a third-person fighting game. Which is cool enough, especially with the added features of online play and the always welcome split screen.

While not many gameplay details are explained, there's a pretty long narrative about the game itself -- backstory, story, frontstory, sidestory... just a lot of bits and pieces of the game's universe revealed. It's an interesting read and we really couldn't do a better job telling you about it, so check it out!
