Today is one of those days and we're not complaining -- Fangamer is selling a pack of Zelda-themed playing cards designed by DeviantArt user <a href="http://nelde.deviantart.com/">Nelde</a>, and they are utterly gorgeous.<br /><br />The face cards feature famous Zelda characters, including Zelda, Link, Dark Link, Mikau, Darmani and more. The suits have been updated as well, to rupees, swords, heart bits and triforces. Fangamer warns that the decks won't ship until May, but the good people of <a href="http://www.zeldauniverse.net/zelda-news/zelda-playing-cards-of-legend-available-now/">Zelda Universe</a> say they already received their orders, so go ahead and take a chance on love. Or Zelda cards.<br /><br />Or both. It's just that kind of day.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/15/play-some-card-games-with-the-cast-of-zelda/">Play some card games with the cast of Zelda</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 15 Apr 2012 20:00:00 EST. Case in point: YouTuber <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/ZeldaFreakGlitcha?feature=watch">ZeldaFreakGlitcha</a> recently used a bug in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time"><em>Ocarina of Time</em></a> that allows him to complete the game in 23 minutes. The glitch involves defeating Queen Gohma and activating, but not traveling through, the warp gate, which then drops child Link in Ganon's castle, and miniaturized missions ensue.<br /><br />Usually we'd say defeating Ganon is <em>no small feat</em>, but with this, well... you know. ZeldaFreakGlitcha is live-streaming more attempts to beat his best bug time today on <a href="http://www.twitch.tv/zfg1">TwitchTV</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/15/new-zelda-ocarina-of-time-bug-beats-game-in-23-minutes-as-child/">New Zelda: Ocarina of Time bug beats game in 23 minutes as child Link</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 15 Apr 2012 12:30:00 EST. Some people, in fact, love Zelda games so much that they've spent nine months completely rebuilding a Zelda game inside of a totally unrelated and entirely different game.<br /><br />The Hyrulecraft project, which is currently in the middle of live public alpha testing, is a to-scale recreation of <em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em> inside of <em>Minecraft</em>. As you can tell from the above trailer, Hyrulecraft an impressive display of devotion to the franchise, but the team responsible has far more ambitious plans. Ultimately, they want to make Hyrulecraft "a unique Minecraft MMO experience including quests, NPCs, dungeons, free build zones, guilds, and more," according to <a href="http://gengame.net/2012/01/hyrulecraft-goes-public-limited-time-sneak-peak/">their website</a>.<br /><br />If cuboid reproductions of Nintendo 64 games really are your bag, baby, then hit the source link for information about how you can scope out the public alpha test and download the map for yourself. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/21/hyrulecraft-ocarina-of-time-reproduced-in-minecraft/">Hyrulecraft: Ocarina of Time reproduced in Minecraft</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 21 Jan 2012 21:00:00 EST. The <em>Hyrule Historia</em> continues to divulge dark, long forgotten secrets of the Legend of Zelda mythos. Well, mostly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/24/the-official-legend-of-zelda-timeline-isnt-entirely-official-ye/">timelines</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/04/skyward-swords-language-deciphered-turned-into-font/">fonts</a>, but that's still pretty neat for everyone in the Joystiq chapter of the Hyrulian Historical Society. The latest gem to be unearthed (<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahTyGckSJqw">insert appropriate sound effect here</a>) from the Historia's gushing fount of knowledge is a translation of the written language used by Ganondorf's people, the Gerudo, and a font to go with it.<br />
<br />
Decoded by Sarinilli, the same topographical alchemist responsible for creating the <em>Skyward Sword</em> font, the Gerudo language is also an alternate representation of the 26 characters of the English language. Strangely, the only numerals in the Gerudo alphabet are 1 and 5, which can be used as an effective (if inefficient) alternative for the Roman numerals I and V.<br />
<br />
Hypothetically, this new knowledge could be used to translate Gerudo texts found in <em>Ocarina of Time</em>, but that sounds like <em>way</em> too much work to us. To be honest, we only joined the Hyrulian Historical Society for the political connections. The Gerudo Typography font is available for free, non-commercial use at <a href="http://sarinilli.deviantart.com/#/d4ln2mn">Sarinilli's DeviantArt profile</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/08/zelda-lexicon-expands-gerudo-language-translated-and-fontified/">Zelda lexicon expands, Gerudo language translated and fontified</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 08 Jan 2012 19:30:00 EST. The cheap-toy twist-knob machines lining grocery stores and movie theaters across the western world don't contain Zelda figures, which makes them more proof that Japan is way cooler than everyone else, ever. Takara Tomy Arts is offering six gashapon figurines direct from Japan, including characters from <em>The Wind Waker</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time"><em>Ocarina of Time </em></a>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-skyward-sword"><em>Skyward Sword</em></a>. Import specialist NCS is taking <a href="http://www.shopncsx.com/zeldafigure.aspx">pre-orders</a> for the collection, dubbed the Zelda Figure Collection, for shipment in April.<br />
<br />
For $30 you can get two tiny Links, a Tetra, Zelda, child Link and child Zelda. Even with import costs, it's much cheaper than a plane trip to Japan and the 100-yen coins you'd have to spend on cool toy capsules.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/05/put-these-cute-zelda-figures-from-japan-in-your-pocket/">Put these cute Zelda figures from Japan in your pocket</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Jan 2012 02:00:00 EST. You've seen Nintendo's new 3DS bundles in a few Black Friday ads already, but the company made it official today, detailing the two special holiday packages it plans to release on Thanksgiving Day -- and giving us another opportunity to stare at that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/08/europes-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3ds-is-a-magical-artifact/"><em>Zelda</em> system</a>.<br />
<br />
The Cosmo Black bundle contains a special Cosmo Black 3DS decorated with Zelda imagery, along with a copy of <em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D</em>. The Flame Red bundle contains a plain old Flame Red 3DS with <em>Super Mario 3D Land</em>.<br />
<br />
Both are priced at $199.99, but you'll be able to find them cheaper at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/18/target-black-friday-deals-37-bf3-resistance-3-180-3ds-bundl/">certain</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/11/best-buy-selling-mario-zelda-3ds-bundles-for-black-friday-bu/">retailers</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/nintendos-mario-and-zelda-3ds-bundles-hit-the-us-november-24/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nintendo's Mario and Zelda 3DS bundles hit the US November 24</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/nintendos-mario-and-zelda-3ds-bundles-hit-the-us-november-24/">Nintendo's Mario and Zelda 3DS bundles hit the US November 24</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Nov 2011 10:00:00 EST. Best Buy's Black Friday ad is eerily similar to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/10/walmart-black-friday-batman-battlefield-3-28-each-blue-wii/">Walmart's</a> in its list of game discounts, but features something we didn't see in the Walmart ad: holiday 3DS bundles. For $179, you'll be able to pick up either a Cosmo Black system with <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D</em></a> or a Flare Red system with<em> <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/super-mario-3d-land">Super Mario 3D Land</a></em>, a savings of $30 over buying separately.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, the systems included in the bundles are the normal 3DS colors, and not the spectacular custom-designed 3DS in the European <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/08/europes-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3ds-is-a-magical-artifact/"><em>Zelda</em> bundle</a>. On the upside, that means we won't be among those battling you on Black Friday morning.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> The <a href="http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/BlackFridayScans/GameStop">GameStop Black Friday ad</a> shows a clearer picture of the Zelda bundle -- and it <em>is</em> the special Zelda 3DS!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/11/best-buy-selling-mario-zelda-3ds-bundles-for-black-friday-bu/">Best Buy selling Mario, Zelda 3DS bundles for Black Friday [update: Zelda bundle is the special edition!]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Nov 2011 16:45:00 EST. We've never personally felt the need for a 3DS that plays only European-format games ... until now. Nintendo of Europe announced an absolutely lovely <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d"><em>Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D </em></a>bundle, featuring some gold embellishments on the top, and gold accents to power icons and the 3D slider.<br />
<br />
The bundle also includes a copy of the game, with an exclusive double-sided sleeve -- which means that if you import the set, you'll have at least one properly region-coded game. It'll be released on November 25, exclusively in Europe ... unless Nintendo of America would like to make an announcement today (please?). <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-3ds-bundle/">The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS bundle)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-3ds-bundle/#4593347"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/zelda11801_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-3ds-bundle/#4593348"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/zelda11802_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-3ds-bundle/#4593349"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/zelda11803_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-3ds-bundle/#4593350"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/zelda11804_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-3ds-bundle/#4593351"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/zelda11805_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/08/europes-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3ds-is-a-magical-artifact/">Europe's Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS is a magical artifact</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 Nov 2011 10:26:00 EST. The Nintendo DS and its variants have crossed a neat little milestone: 50 million units sold in the US, according to NPD numbers passed along by Nintendo. Seven years after launch, and seven months after the release of its <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/@3ds">successor</a>, people are still buying the thing.<br />
<br />
Nintendo also had some relatively good news to share about the 3DS: it moved over 260,000 units in September, bringing the post-price-drop total to 450,000 in the US. And pretty much all of those buyers also picked up <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D</em></a>, as it has surpassed half a million units sold in the US.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/13/ds-has-sold-over-50-million-units-in-us-to-date/">DS has sold over 50 million units in US to date</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Oct 2011 19:30:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/15/zelda-sold-well-in-june-child-of-eden-and-shadows-of-the-damned/">NPD</a> suggested that audiences were receptive of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D</em></a> (by which we mean they <em>bought it</em>), but new data from Nintendo reveals just how successful the game was in its debut month.<br />
<br />
In its list of million-selling first-party titles for the last quarter (ending June 30), <em>Ocarina of Time</em> is the only 3DS game listed, having sold 1.08 million copies -- approximately 270,000 in Japan, 810,000 elsewhere.<br />
<br />
Nintendo's other platforms also feature one lonely million seller each ... well, technically there are two on the DS, combined: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pokemon-black-and-white"><em>Pokemon Black and White</em></a> sold 1.36 mllion in the quarter, bringing it up to a global life-to-date total of 12.87 million. And <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mario-kart-wii"><em>Mario Kart Wii</em></a> repped for the Wii all by itself, selling 1.22 million in the quarter, up to a ridiculous 2.82 million lifetime total.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/29/nintendo-has-one-million-seller-per-console-in-last-quarter/">Nintendo has one million seller per console in last quarter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 29 Jul 2011 15:00:00 EST. <em>The Legend of Zelda</em> is 25 this year, and Nintendo is celebrating its birthday the way any young, virile adult would want, with a trip to the symphony (Don't tell Nintendo a bar would be cheaper). <a href="http://www.zelda-symphony.com/"><em>The Legend of Zelda</em> 25th Anniversary Symphony Concert</a> is scheduled for October 21 at Los Angeles' Pantages Theatre, featuring complete symphonic renditions of the series' classic songs as chosen by composer Koji Kondo. A full tour of the show will begin in 2012.<br />
<br />
The concert will feature a 70-piece orchestra, much like the one we saw during Nintendo's E3 presentation, above. Tickets for the Pantages concert will <a href="http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/0B0046F3F2235ED2">go on sale</a> August 1, ranging from $35 to $150, depending on how much you appreciate your childhood.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/22/the-legend-of-zelda-celebrates-25-years-with-a-symphony/">The Legend of Zelda celebrates 25 years with a symphony</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Jul 2011 05:00:00 EST. Yes, it's true. A startling (and vaguely insulting) number of American consumers ignored our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/10/duke-nukem-forever-review-fail-to-the-king-baby/#review">review</a> and purchased <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever">Duke Nukem Forever</a>,</em> rocketing it to the #2 position on the NPD sales charts for the month of June. Perhaps they just didn't want to ask for refunds on those 14-year-old pre-orders. The Duke occupies a position on the charts just under its equally retro (in a different way) Take-Two contemporary, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/la-noire"><em>L.A. Noire</em></a>.<br />
<br />
Also notable on the sales charts is the debut of another time-lost title, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D</em></a>. At #5, it is the first 3DS exclusive to chart in the NPD top ten. Find the top ten best-selling games listed after the break.<br />
<br />
It's definitely a triumphant month for<em> the past</em>, as total game sales were down from $1.15 billion in June of 2010 to $1.03 billion in June of this year. Once again, however, Microsoft is happy, declaring its Xbox 360 the only console in the US to show year-over-year growth. The Xbox was the top-selling console with 507,000 units which Microsoft claims is "nearly twice as many units as other current-generation platforms" this month.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/14/june-npd-duke-nukem-forever-is-2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>June NPD: Duke Nukem Forever is #2</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/14/june-npd-duke-nukem-forever-is-2/">June NPD: Duke Nukem Forever is #2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Jul 2011 18:30:00 EST. Navi in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em></a> was annoying in a "fly in your kitchen at dinnertime" way, but the filmmakers at Humble Punch Productions have shown us it could've been worse, like "12 foot radioactive cockroach in your meatloaf as you serve it to the President and First Lady" annoying.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/09/navi-could-have-been-a-lot-more-annoying-and-hairy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Navi could have been a lot more annoying (and hairy)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/09/navi-could-have-been-a-lot-more-annoying-and-hairy/">Navi could have been a lot more annoying (and hairy)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 09 Jul 2011 11:30:00 EST. After playing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time"><em>The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time</em></a> in both two and three dimensions, you probably think you know everything there is to know about the watershed action-adventure, but how wrong you are! In a recent Iwata Asks, Shigeru Miyamoto and Iwata unearthed even more dirt on the game.<br />
<br />
For example, did you know Miyamoto and team didn't think cutting grass was particularly fun, but fans of <em>Link to the Past</em> demanded it? It's true! Did you know it was kind of inspired by Twin Peaks? It's true! Did you know that Navi is the real Keyser S&ouml;ze? It's true!<br />
<br />
No, sorry. We misread. That last one's made up.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/28/what-you-didnt-know-about-the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time/">What you didn't know about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Jun 2011 21:00:00 EST. We received a lot of emails yesterday from anxious readers, who had all registered their copies of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D</em></a> with Club Nintendo for their free soundtrack discs (as announced in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/nintendo-e3-keynote/">E3 keynote</a>), but weren't getting the email confirmations from Nintendo. And then the site crashed. As this was a first-come-first-serve offer, the lack of communication was disturbing. Readers reported yesterday that only a call to Nintendo customer service (on a Sunday!) would resolve the issue.<br />
<br />
Today, Nintendo updated the <a href="https://club.nintendo.com/ocarina_of_time_3d_soundtrack_offer.do">page</a> for the offer, extending the cutoff to "midnight, Pacific Time on Monday June 20, 2011" -- we're contacting Nintendo to clarify if that meant last night or tonight. We tested the deal and have yet to receive email confirmation ourselves, but Nintendo's page says, "You will receive an email confirmation within 7 days to confirming we have placed your order." It also says that everyone who registered before midnight Pacific on June 20 will receive a CD.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> Nintendo informed us that the deal is in fact active until midnight, Pacific time, <em>tonight</em>. There's still time!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/20/club-nintendo-ocarina-of-time-3d-soundtrack-offer-extended/">Club Nintendo Ocarina of Time 3D soundtrack offer extended [Update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Jun 2011 12:00:00 EST. We've given up trying to understand. <em>Zumba Fitness</em> is back atop the UK charts this week, a position it's enjoyed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/09/zumba-fitness-back-on-top-of-uk-charts/">several</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/18/zumba-keeps-on-dancing-atop-uk-charts/">times</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/11/zumba-fitness-overtakes-crysis-2-for-top-uk-sales-spot/">before</a>. This latest ascension for <em>Zumba</em> was thanks to a 51 percent increase in sales of the Wii version. <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=1113&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a> doesn't provide an explanation for the sales boost ... probably because some things just can't be explained.<br />
<br />
<em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em> for 3DS enjoyed a second place debut on the charts, with around 20% of UK 3DS owners buying the title during its launch week. <em>Duke Nukem Forever</em> sales slipped 58 percent and the title drops two spots into third place for its second week at retail -- this hasn't quite <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/13/metareview-duke-nukem-forever/">been the glorious comeback for Nukem</a>.<br />
<br />
Other premieres last week were <em>Dungeon Siege 3</em> and <em>Alice: Madness Returns,</em> which charted at ninth and 13th, respectively. <em>Child of Eden</em>, the Kinect-enabled sensory experience <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/15/metareview-child-of-eden/">appreciated by critics</a>, debuted in 25th. Taste the purple of the UK top ten after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/20/zumba-fitness-regains-top-uk-sales-spot-ocarina-of-time-plays-s/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zumba Fitness regains top UK sales spot; Ocarina of Time plays second fiddle</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/20/zumba-fitness-regains-top-uk-sales-spot-ocarina-of-time-plays-s/">Zumba Fitness regains top UK sales spot; Ocarina of Time plays second fiddle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Jun 2011 08:30:00 EST. <em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em> hasn't stopped being one of the greatest video games ever created in the 13 years since its initial Nintendo 64 release. Its decade-spanning story, lovable characters and groundbreaking methods of interacting with a 3D world were so ahead of their time in 1998, the game still manages to outpace most action-adventure games released today. This is very, very fortunate for Nintendo, because <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time"><em>Ocarina of Time 3D</em></a> is about as straightforward a remake as remakes come.<br />
<br />
Aside from a few neat gimmicks tied to the 3DS' hardware capabilities, Grezzo's renovation of Nintendo EAD's masterpiece is <em>entirely</em> superficial. In this complete aesthetic overhaul, however, Grezzo has exhibited something extremely rare for developers -- more rare, even, than the creativity and inspiration that made the original Ocarina of Time such a revelation: Grezzo designed every gorgeous inch of Hyrule with unswerving, boundless <em>love</em>.<br />

Nintendo's regular <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/iwata-asks">Iwata Asks</a> features are typically capable of dredging up some fairly magical feelings of nostalgia, but none have tapped into our happiness centers quite like <a href="http://iwataasks.nintendo.com/interviews/#/3ds/zelda-ocarina-of-time/1/0">the latest installment</a>, which details the development of<em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time">The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</a></em>. Not only does it talk about the game's early prototypes (including that ill-advised, short-lived FPS version), it talks about the inspiration for some of the major revelations that made the game possible. For instance, Z-Targeting? That was inspired by <em>actual ninjas</em>. Seriously!<br />

Check out the full interview for more details, like the developmental relationship between <em>OoT</em> and <em>Super Mario 64</em>, as well as a long-overdue admission that, yes, Link is running around Hyrule in long, white underwear.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/16/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-times-development-detailed-in-n/">The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's development detailed in new Iwata Asks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Jun 2011 18:10:00 EST. The flurry of trailers reminding you of your long-time love for <em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em> wasn't enough to get you excited for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time">the 3DS remake</a>? There are at least six or even seven questions in the launch trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em></a>. Pressing questions, like, "Willst thou soar or willst thou suck?" With any luck, you'll have figured out the answers by the time the game launches on Sunday.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-e3-2011/">The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (E3 2011)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-e3-2011/#4207286"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/3dszeldaot1scrn01e3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-e3-2011/#4207287"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/3dszeldaot2scrn02e3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-e3-2011/#4207288"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/3dszeldaot3scrn03e3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-e3-2011/#4207289"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/3dszeldaot4scrn04e3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-e3-2011/#4207290"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/3dszeldaot5scrn05e3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div>

Though not nearly as radical as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/05/greeces-ocarina-of-time-pre-order-bonuses-are-the-best-bonuses/">Greece's Deku Nut-packed bundle</a>, Australia's getting its own special edition of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-legend-of-zelda-the-ocarina-of-time-3d">The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D</a>. Shedding the legumes and baseball cap of its Grecian counterpart, the Australian Ocarina Bundle -- available exclusively as a pre-order bonus from <a href="http://www.ebgames.com.au/3ds-153997-The-Legend-of-Zelda-Ocarina-Edition-3DS-Nintendo-3DS?utm_source=website&amp;utm_medium=skin&amp;utm_campaign=Zelda_Ocarina">EB Games</a> -- includes an Ocarina, some sheet music to help you play some of <em>OoT</em>'s transportative jingles and a large box with which to contain said instrument and tabulature.<br />
<br />
Just a note, Nintendo of America: We are rapidly approaching the day where you won't be able to announce this kind of Ocarina-filled special edition for US release anymore, because the game will have already come out, and then we won't have an Ocarina, and then we'll be sad all the time. We really need you to come through for <em>future us</em>, Nintendo.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/26/australia-getting-its-own-awesome-ocarina-of-time-3d-bundle/">Australia getting its own awesome Ocarina of Time 3D bundle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 May 2011 00:00:00 EST. We're not above admitting that the latest trailer for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time">The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</a></em> (ripped from the Japanese Nintendo Channel) got us a lot more excited than we thought we'd be getting for a nearly 15-year-old game. Head past the break to check it out ... and do try to contain yourself.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/25/latest-ocarina-of-time-3ds-trailer-plays-the-song-of-nostalgia/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Latest Ocarina of Time 3DS trailer plays the Song of Nostalgia</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/25/latest-ocarina-of-time-3ds-trailer-plays-the-song-of-nostalgia/">Latest Ocarina of Time 3DS trailer plays the Song of Nostalgia</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 May 2011 15:11:00 EST. As if ReDeads in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em></a> weren't scary enough in English, one gamer recently captured over 10 minutes of footage of the game <em>in German</em>, ReDeads and all. Aside from <em>sheer terror</em>, the clip also features a thorough look at the upcoming remake.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/16/watch-over-10-minutes-of-the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Watch over 10 minutes of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D footage (in German)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/16/watch-over-10-minutes-of-the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d/">Watch over 10 minutes of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D footage (in German)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 16 May 2011 19:12:00 EST. <a href="http://www.nintendo.gr/el-gr/News.aspx?ElementID=52ca68ee-eeac-439b-8fe8-2423c7021227">Nintendo Greece</a> has apparently decided that selling its customers a renovated, three-dimensional version of the best game ever made isn't a sweet enough treat. The official <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d"><em>Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D</em></a> page on Nintendo.gr has revealed that folks who pre-order the game through Nintendo will receive a plethora of bonuses, including a keychain, baseball cap, 3DS cover, an actual ocarina and -- get this -- a canister of Deku tree seeds. (We hear that if you plant them, <em>actual sentient shrubs</em> come out of the ground.)<br />
<br />
No pre-order bonuses for the U.S. have been announced, but needless to say, the bar's been set pretty high. If we don't get a pouch of replica rupees, or at the very least, a remote-controlled Bombchu, we're going to be extremely disappointed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/05/greeces-ocarina-of-time-pre-order-bonuses-are-the-best-bonuses/">Greece's Ocarina of Time pre-order bonuses are the best bonuses ever</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 May 2011 18:10:00 EST. Here's something for all the Zelda continuity conspiracy theorists. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDV3X8o7WRQ">FPAwesome</a> was reversing the sound on YouTube videos one day, as we all do when bored, and discovered a big secret in <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-skyward-sword"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword's</em></a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/02/legend-of-zelda-skyward-sword-gameplay-shown-to-gdc-attendees/">GDC 2011 trailer</a>. The background music, which sounds at first like a totally original composition, is actually "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qPtuOfQbyI">Zelda's Lullaby</a>" in reverse! GoNintendo extracted just the audio, which you can hear after the break.<br />
<br />
Is it a clue about the storyline of <em>Skyward Sword</em>, or is it the work of a playful composer? That's another one for the conspiracy theorists, as is the possibility that the back-masked music is a form of mind control.<br />
<br />

Apparently hearing our lustful cries for more <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time">Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D</a> media, the US Nintendo Channel has posted a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NR1pdOX_gQE&amp;feature=player_embedded">new trailer</a> for Link's remade adventure. We honestly never thought we'd say this, but that is one fine looking Dodongo.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/03/listen-theres-a-new-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-trailer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Listen! Japanese retail news blog <a href="http://ameblo.jp/sinobi/">Sinobi</a> (translated by <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/04/30/zelda_3ds_shipment/">Andriasang</a>) reports Nintendo has a somewhat surprising supply strategy for its upcoming, three-dimensional remake of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em></a>. According to the blog, Nintendo's initial shipment of the title to retailers will be "extremely small." Furthermore, Nintendo supposedly isn't letting retailers order extra units of the game, and is allotting a limited number of copies for all retailers, regardless of their respective size.<br />
<br />
It seems bananas to limit supply on the 3DS' most anticipated title to date, but Sinobi suggests this could be a reaction to the overstocking of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-spirit-tracks"><em>Zelda: Spirit Tracks</em></a>, which ended up in Japanese bargain bins faster than the franchise is likely used to. If that's the case, then Nintendo is forgetting one very important factor: <em>Spirit Tracks</em> is a <em>pretty okay</em> game, while <em>Ocarina of Time</em> is the <em>best game ever made</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/30/rumor-ocarina-of-time-3d-to-see-limited-initial-release/">Rumor: Ocarina of Time 3D to see limited initial release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 30 Apr 2011 15:30:00 EST. Few games on this planet are capable of washing us away in a deluge of nostalgia like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em></a>. The game's official site recently uploaded the 3DS remake's title screen opening, and ... man, that takes us <em>back</em>. To a simpler time. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D</em></a> may not possess a boundless cornucopia of new features over its Nintendo 64 predecessor, but Nintendo revealed one neat gameplay mode in <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/news/2011/a_legend_returns_in_magical_3d_this_june_32795.html">a press release</a> published earlier today. After reaching a certain point in the game, players will access the "Boss Challenge" mode, which will "provide players with the opportunity to face any of the previous Bosses they have defeated once again, or, the option to face and confront them one-by-one, all in a continuous battle."<br />
<br />
Oh, you mean we'd have to pummel Queen Gohma, King Dodongo, Barinade, Shadow Ganondorf, Volvagia, Morpha, Bongo Bongo, Twinrova, Ganondorf and Ganon all in one sitting? That's a whole lot of weak points to exploit, but we're pretty confident that we can handle it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/19/ocarina-of-time-3d-includes-new-boss-challenge-mode/">Ocarina of Time 3D includes new 'Boss Challenge' mode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Apr 2011 16:00:00 EST. Imagine you're 30 years old -- heck, imagine you're 40. You're single, looking up old flames on Facebook and you start talking to an old mate, one that always had a special place in your heart. You reconnect and meet up for coffee -- at first glance, you're taken aback by how beautiful this person is. Time hasn't seemed to touch them one bit. In fact, they look <em>better </em>than the last time you saw them.<br />
<br />
This is the exact feeling I had while playing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time">The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D</a> on the 3DS earlier this week. I didn't expect to be blown away, but after going inside the Deku Tree, stomping around the Hyrule Fields and witnessing the new, lush palette of colors as the day cycle progressed from dawn to dusk, that old love stirred again.<br />

<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/23/nintendo-line-attack-heroes-moves-from-retail-to-wiiware/">Grezzo</a> is a company founded by <em>Secret of Mana</em> and <em>Final Fantasy XI</em> director Koichi Ishii. It currently only has one released game to its credit: <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/line-attack-heroes"><em>Line Attack Heroes</em></a>, which was originally planned as a retail Wii game and then released as WiiWare in Japan. Grezzo's second project is a much higher-profile one, it turns out: <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time">The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D</a></em>.<br />
<br />
Grezzo turned up as the "author" of the 3DS remake in the <a href="http://www.classification.gov.au/www/cob/find.nsf/5b6ebdff7f5b9a24ca2575ca00062226/a13741957e396ac6ca25786f005d80a3?OpenDocument">Australian classification board's listing</a>. Following a recent hands-on event (look for our preview later today), Nintendo confirmed this information to Joystiq. That means there is now a direct link between Square's <em>Zelda</em>-esque <em>Mana</em> series and <em>Zelda</em> itself. What's next, Mario and Sonic in games together?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/13/grezzo-behind-the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d/">Grezzo behind The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Apr 2011 09:30:00 EST. Called <em>Wii Play: Motion</em>, the bundle will included 12 new minigames and, of course, a Wii Remote Plus. It'll be out and upselling everyone who goes out to buy a Wiimote on June 13. Nintendo is also publishing a Wii iteration of the hidden-object Mystery Case Files series, <em>Mystery Case Files: Dust to Dust</em>, on June 27.<br />
<br />
Nintendo's big 3DS release for the quarter, <em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D</em>, has also been given a release date: June 19. It'll be followed by third-party standout <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/cave-story-3d"><em>Cave Story 3D</em></a> on June 28. Find more release dates for upcoming Wii, DS, and 3DS games after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/12/wii-play-motion-announced-for-june-13-ocarina-of-time-3d-follo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wii Play: Motion announced for June 13, Ocarina of Time 3D follows on June 19</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/12/wii-play-motion-announced-for-june-13-ocarina-of-time-3d-follo/">Wii Play: Motion announced for June 13, Ocarina of Time 3D follows on June 19</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Apr 2011 09:33:00 EST. If you needed another reason to acquire the renovated, 3DS version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em></a> -- other than the fact that it's a pretty port of the best game of all time -- this might just win you over. In a video interview with <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjq2L9ebos0">ConservativeNewMedia</a>, a Nintendo of America representative demoing the title at GDC revealed that the cartridge will contain both the original game and the slightly-more-difficult Master Quest.<br />
<br />
Check out the video below to see the interview in question, and to see Link just stand around in the Deku Tree for a couple minutes. What are you doing loitering inside of old, sentient trees, dude? You've got Spiritual Stones to collect.<br />

As excited as we are for the arrival of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D</em></a>, this latest batch of screens for the visually renovated title has reminded us of the game's tortuous toll: The Water Temple. So lengthy. So confusing. So, so much boot-swapping!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/02/zelda-ocarina-of-time-3ds-screens-give-us-the-water-temple-chill/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zelda Ocarina of Time 3DS screens give us the Water Temple chills</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/02/zelda-ocarina-of-time-3ds-screens-give-us-the-water-temple-chill/">Zelda Ocarina of Time 3DS screens give us the Water Temple chills</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Mar 2011 13:58:00 EST. It seems that the hero of Hyrule will remain bound to Nintendo's forthcoming 3D handheld in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time">The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</a> </em>before turning his sword skyward at some point after, the company's third quarter <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/110128/06.html">financial report</a> indicates. "<em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em> has been in the process of being remade for Nintendo 3DS, and this Nintendo 3DS version is expected to hit the market earlier [than <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-skyward-sword">Skyward Sword</a></em>]," Nintendo head Satoru Iwata states in the piece.<br />
<br />
Though <em>Skyward Sword</em> apparently won't launch until sometime after <em>OoT</em> (which is expected sometime after June's E3, outside of Nintendo's "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/19/3ds-launch-window-to-include-more-than-30-games-leading-up-to/">launch window</a>"), the report also reveals that Miyamoto's team is currently "entering into the final completion stage" of the Wii title. That being the case, we'll expect a much more impressive demonstration of the game at Nintendo's E3 presser later this year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/31/iwata-zelda-skyward-sword-expected-to-launch-after-ocarina-of-t/">Iwata: Zelda Skyward Sword expected to launch after Ocarina of Time 3D</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 31 Jan 2011 11:30:00 EST. Just as <em>Super Mario 64 DS</em> ushered in the era of the original DS system, it seemed fitting that a 3D-enhanced version of <em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em> -- the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-coming-to-nintendo-3ds/">cherry on top</a> of last June's "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2010,3ds">E3DS</a>" scoop -- would be the linchpin of the 3DS hardware launch <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/19/nintendo-3ds-price-release-date/">this March</a>. Except, it's not going to happen.<br />
<br />
Footnoted in a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/19/3ds-launch-window-to-include-more-than-30-games-leading-up-to/">vague announcement</a> that more than thirty 3DS games would be released between the system's launch and E3 2011 (in early June) was the equally ill-defined update that <em>Zelda: OoT 3D</em> was still "in the works," along with other triple-A Nintendo iterations for the new handheld, including <em>Mario Kart, Paper Mario, Animal Crossing</em> and <em>Star Fox</em> -- not to mention the ballyhooed <em>Kid Icarus</em> comeback, <em>Uprising,</em> which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/kid-icarus-uprising-preview-reaching-for-the-sun/">did impress</a> at last week's preview event.<br />
<br />
"<em>Mario, Zelda,</em> all of those titles are coming," Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime told <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2011/01/25/reggie-fils-aime-on-lack-of-zelda-kid-icarus-at-3ds-launch/">MTV Multiplayer</a>. "From our perspective, we like to launch titles when they're ready. And so they'll be ready. They'll be ready soon -- just not in that initial time period of late March to early June." In other words: "after E3."<br />
<br />
That leaves Nintendo with a somewhat dubious 3DS launch "window" lineup (we still don't know exact release dates) of first-party titles -- three to be exact: <em>Nintendogs + cats, Pilotwings Resort</em> and <em>Steel Diver</em>. You could make a case for those first two serving strong <em>supporting</em> roles in the hardware launch; and Reggie, off the top of his head, said that the <em>Nintendogs</em> and <em>Pilotwings</em> franchises have combined to sell "tens of millions of copies," despite neither being a particularly prolific sequel bearer.<br />
<br />
<em>Steel Diver,</em> on the other hand, is an unknown (it began as a tech demo for the original DS) and stars ... a rather drab submarine. Astutely sensing our apathy for the game, Reggie explained that "from a compelling standpoint, we think it's awfully compelling."<br />
<br />
If you're not buying it ... you could just buy <em>Street Fighter IV</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/super-street-fighter-iv-3d-edition">again</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/26/reggie-articulates-whats-compelling-about-nintendos-3ds-launch/">Reggie articulates what's compelling about Nintendo's 3DS launch games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Jan 2011 12:00:00 EST. Nothing does a better job of upgrading a game's graphics than your memory. There's something about the PS1/N64 era of games that makes us remember them better than they actually looked. The 3DS version of <em>Ocarina of Time</em> is unquestionably a better looking game than its predecessor, with new textures, new character models, better lighting, and a new widescreen aspect ratio. So, why does <em>Ocarina of Time</em> still look so dated?<br />
<br />
Although Nintendo has updated the visuals of the N64 classic, it hasn't changed enough to shake off the N64 origins -- and the new sheen of paint can't help it compete with the other games that were present at the 3DS preview event, like <em>Resident Evil</em>. The 3D effect also seems relatively muted, even with the toggle set to the maximum settings. Its shortcomings make me realize that I wouldn't mind seeing a more thorough remake, one that truly pushes the 3DS' graphical capabilities.<br />
<br />
But for most, <em>Zelda</em> isn't about the visuals, and the gameplay is just as you remember it.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-1-9-11/">The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (1/9/11)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-1-9-11/#3764579"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/oot3d1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-1-9-11/#3764580"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/oot3d2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-1-9-11/#3764581"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/oot3d3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-1-9-11/#3764582"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/oot3d4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-1-9-11/#3764583"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/oot3d5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-preview/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D preview</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d-preview/">The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D preview</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Jan 2011 09:32:00 EST. Did you hear? It's got a built-in pedometer! The 3DS measures your steps <em>as you walk</em> -- right there in your pocket! Even better: You can pull the thing out <em>whenever</em> and snap all kinds of pics -- the thing's got <em>three</em> cameras! And get this: It also pipes out music, browses the internet and even <em>plays games</em>.<br />
<br />
True, you've already got a pile of old DS games (and now defunct DS devices) that you <em>could</em> be playing on your new pedometer, but more than 30 <em>three-DEE</em> titles are expected to be released during the 3DS "launch window" (which begins <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/19/nintendo-3ds-price-release-date/">March 27</a> and promptly closes on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/17/e3-2011-scheduled-june-7-9-2010-welcomed-45-600-attendees/">June 7</a> with the start of E3).<br />
<br />
We've listed 24 of the apparent launch-window releases after the break (though Nintendo's being coy about exact dates), including Nintendo's own <em>Nintendogs + cats</em> and <em>Pilotwings Resort</em>, plus a hearty helping of third-party support; with notable newcomers, <em>Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked</em> (previously unannounced outside of Japan) and <em>Crush 3D,</em> a possible port of the 2007 PSP platforming puzzler from Sega.<br />
<br />
Don't look at the date ambiguity in dismay -- see it as an opportunity! Beginning in late March, you can walk to and from GameStop in anticipation of a new batch of games each Tuesday for <em>ten whole weeks,</em> and the 3DS will count your steps -- each and every one of them! And just imagine how many Street Passes you're going to rack up?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/19/3ds-launch-window-to-include-more-than-30-games-leading-up-to/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>3DS 'launch window' to include more than 30 games leading up to E3</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/19/3ds-launch-window-to-include-more-than-30-games-leading-up-to/">3DS 'launch window' to include more than 30 games leading up to E3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Jan 2011 11:15:00 EST.
