This seems like a rather sudden and drastic price drop, the kind that might be a mistake, so don't tarry if you're thinking of picking it up.

The Munchables has actually been getting reasonably good (if not glowing) reviews, so at this low price, it might be worth a look. That is, of course, only if you have a high tolerance for weirdness. This is a game in which all the enemies are vegetables, after all, and you fight by eating them. Don't pick this up if the majority of your games are about World War II or something.

Much like another Namco character -- Pac-Man -- the star of this Wii-exclusive game is out to eat anything and everything in sight, even if there's no real point.

Well, there is a backstory about a nefarious vegetable named Don Onion and his band of space pirates ... yeah, you're right, it's best to just focus on the gameplay.

Namco-Bandai has described this as Pac-Man meets Katamari Damacy, but we're pretty sure that comparison is inaccurate. Instead, we'd say it has equal parts Pac-Man, Katamari Damacy, and Violet Beauregarde. Head past the break for the second trailer (and more addictive tunes).

Check out this latest trailer and you'll instantly see why. Essentially, the goal of the game is to eat everything in sight -- that's the Pac-Man part, see -- which in turn causes the main character to grow larger -- and there's the Katamari part. Watch closely and you'll even notice areas that require players to reach a specific size before they can be accessed, which is also similar to Katamari. The opening cinematic also shares some of Katamari's distinctive eccentricity.

On a side note, we're really digging the old-school cartoon sound effects employed by the game. They really help to offset the grisly reality that this thing is eating every living creature in its vicinity ... and it's the good guy.

NEVER! Join the fight against the evil Onion in Namco Bandai's The Munchables, a new Wii game coming to North America this May.

The Munchables' story and gameplay are both gluttony-based. As a Munchable, players must defeat the space pirates -- such deliciously wicked creatures as the Eggplanter and the Space Shroom -- by devouring them. As they eat, the Munchables grow. It's clearly a kid-friendly game, but the graphics are fairly impressive (if overly colorful) and the eating-based combat (which is vaguely reminiscent of Prey the Stars) sounds entertaining, at the very least. Besides, Don Onion! Eggplanter! The quirkiness is compelling. And we're total suckers for games with onion characters.
