Cohort Studios, creator of PlayStation <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Move/">Move</a> on-rails shooter <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-shoot">The Shoot</a></em>, is shutting down. <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/news/37540/Cohort-closes-down">Develop</a> reports the Dundee, Scotland outfit is closing in its fifth year of operation due to "difficulties of being a console developer in a declining console marketplace."<br />
<br />
The 25 remaining employees have been told of the closure, after the studio let 27 others go last August. <em>The Shoot</em> was the studio's first of several planned original projects, following contract work on titles like<em> Buzz, Burnout Paradise</em>, and <em>Motorstorm</em>. The company's final game, <em>Me Monstar: Hear Me Roar</em>, will launch as a PlayStation Mini in May.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/21/the-shoot-developer-cohort-studios-shuttered/">The Shoot developer Cohort Studios shuttered</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Apr 2011 17:00:00 EST. Cohort Studios' on-rails, movie-set shooter -- called, you know, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-shoot"><em>The Shoot</em></a> -- will be available to add to your burgeoning PlayStation Move software collection <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/10/07/the-shoot-for-playstation-move-hits-on-october-19/">on October 19</a>. What's even more exciting? On the same day, you'll be able to pick up the PlayStation Move Shooting Attachment, thw peripheral that makes your Move controller look like a totally sweet, <em>Earthworm Jim</em>-esque ray gun.<br />
<br />
<em>The Shoot</em> will retail for $39.99, while the Shooting Attachment will cost $19.99. We think that's a pretty fair price for a peripheral that makes it feel like you're actually shooting a gun as opposed to casting spells with the <em>most magical wand</em> -- an important distinction, we think, for a game titled <em>The Shoot</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/07/the-shoot-taking-aim-at-oct-19-north-american-debut/">The Shoot taking aim at Oct. 19 North American debut</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Oct 2010 12:00:00 EST. <br />
Similarly, we know <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/the-shoot">The Shoot</a></em> is all about shooting, because of subtle cues in its trailer like the game's title and <em>everything that happens in the trailer</em>. Joystiq tipster Phil received a <a href="http://houseparty.com/pscentral">promotional</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-move">PlayStation Move</a> kit, which included two Move controllers, a PlayStation Eye camera and a demo disc. The disc features an interface inspired by the "Now Playing" section of the XMB, allowing you to quickly peruse its contents. Included on the disc are demos for <em>Sports Champions</em>, <em>Start the Party</em>, <em>Kung Fu Rider</em>, <em>TV Superstars</em>, <em>The Shoot</em>, <em>Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11</em>, <em>Beat Sketcher</em>, and <em>Tumble</em> -- all games demoed at E3 earlier this year.<br />
<br />
Interestingly, it appears that the demos (at least on this promotional disc) cannot be launched directly from the disc; you must install each demo to your PS3 hard drive. According to our tipster, each demo is about 1-2 GB in size, meaning you'll need at least 8GB of free space if you want to play everything off the disc at once.<br />
<br />
In addition to the demos, the disc includes an installable "Setup Guide," which may be the most enjoyable part of the entire collection. It includes some helpful tips, like "<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/mairondil/PlayStationMoveUnboxing?feat=directlink&amp;fgl=true&amp;pli=1#5503888073521681890">don't use the camera upside-down</a>" and "<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/mairondil/PlayStationMoveUnboxing?feat=directlink&amp;fgl=true&amp;pli=1#5503888110966686722">don't smack people around you</a>." Truly, advice for <em>winners</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/11/playstation-move-unboxed-demo-disc-detailed/">PlayStation Move unboxed, demo disc detailed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Aug 2010 13:30:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-move">PlayStation Move</a> is set to launch in the US on September 19 alongside several bundles. The Starter Pack -- a $99 bundle including one PlayStation Move controller, a PlayStation Eye camera and a copy of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/10/hands-on-playstation-moves-sports-champions/"><em>Sports Champions</em></a> -- is apparently going to be a bit different when it launches in the UK on September 15. <a href="http://www.mcvuk.com/news/40205/Move-Starter-Pack-detailed">MCV</a> reports that the UK Starter Pack won't include a full copy of <em>Sports Champions, </em>instead giving gamers a taste of nine different titles.<br />
<br />
The nine demos included in the package include snippets of six retail Move titles: <em>Sports Champions</em>, <em>Start the Party</em>, <em>The Shoot</em>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/16/eyepet-move-edition-now-in-3d/">EyePet: Move Edition</a></em>, <em>TV Superstars </em>and <em>Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11</em>. The remaining three demos will be for PSN games: <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/echochrome-2">Echochrome 2</a></em>, <em>Tumble</em> and <em>Beat Sketchers</em>. In the UK, the Starter Pack will have a suggested retail value of &pound;49.99.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/29/playstation-move-starter-pack-includes-nine-demos-in-the-uk/">PlayStation Move Starter Pack includes nine demos in the UK</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Jul 2010 16:20:00 EST. PlayStation Move is essentially a brand new platform for Sony. While many of the motion-sensing launch games for the new PS3 controller are "Wii HD" titles, there are a few noteworthy additions, including <em>echochrome 2</em>, <em>Heroes on the Move</em> and a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/16/playstation-move-patch-for-heavy-rain-coming-this-fall/">Move edition</a> of <em>Heavy Rain.</em> Check out trailers for all of Sony's first-party Move titles after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/21/visual-overload-sonys-e3-playstation-move-lineup/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Visual overload: Sony's E3 PlayStation Move lineup</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/21/visual-overload-sonys-e3-playstation-move-lineup/">Visual overload: Sony's E3 PlayStation Move lineup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Jun 2010 20:30:00 EST. "The Shoot" is a pretty fun title. The on-rails shooter propels you through a series of cheesy movie sets, populated by cardboard cut-out civilians, antiquated B-movie aliens and hulking robots. And then you shoot them ... on <em>the shoot</em>. See? What's more fun than a title with a double meaning? <br /> <br /> Although the title is a riot, my time with the <em>game</em> left me feeling disappointed and annoyed. Lightgun shooters have a comfy home on Wii, and the point-and-shoot mechanics of games like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/house-of-the-dead-overkill"><em>House of the Dead: Overkill</em></a> are a natural fit for the controller. The PlayStation Move is similarly well-suited, both in terms of aiming ability and comfortable weighting. But "The Shoot" felt like a second-rate shooting range, marked by a slow pace and obvious simplicity.<br /> <br /> Those can't be trotted out as negatives for every gamer, but if you're a Joystiq reader, there's something you have to know: In order to activate a useful slow-motion effect in "The Shoot," you have to -- I'm not kidding -- <em>spin around on the spot</em> like a ballerina with an ice-cream cone in her hand. I imagine Sony would like to separate its motion controller from the Wii's stigma of vapid, gestural-overload games, so pulling an early-days Wii stunt like that makes for a bad impression.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sony-move-the-shoot/">PlayStation Move: The Shoot</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sony-move-the-shoot/#2789852"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/03/sonymovetheshoot04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sony-move-the-shoot/#2789853"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/03/sonymovetheshoot05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sony-move-the-shoot/#2789854"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/03/sonymovetheshoot06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sony-move-the-shoot/#2789855"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/03/sonymovetheshoot02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sony-move-the-shoot/#2789856"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/03/sonymovetheshoot03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/10/hands-on-playstation-moves-the-shoot/">Hands-on: PlayStation Move's 'The Shoot'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Mar 2010 22:40:00 EST. <span style="float: right; margin-bottom: 16px; margin-left: 4px;"><script> digg_url = 'http://digg.com/playstation/The_PlayStation_Move_games_we_know_of_Joystiq'; </script><script src="http://digg.com/tools/diggthis.js"></script></span> According to the block of info posted on <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2010/03/09/introducing-playstation-move/">European PlayStation Blog</a>, there are a lot more PlayStation Move games out there to be seen than tonight's press release let on. Beyond the already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/10/socom-4-littlebigplanet-to-support-playstation-move/">revealed</a> support for Move in <em>SOCOM 4,</em> <em><socom></socom></em> <em>LittleBigPlanet</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/10/eyepet-to-support-playstation-move-hits-north-america-holiday-2/">and <em>EyePet</em></a><em>,</em> a whole mess of games were shown off at Sony's GDC event, from <em>Move Party</em> (um, a party game) to <em>Slider</em> (<em>Mirror's Edge</em> meets <em>Pain?</em>) to a Western shooter in <em>The Shoot</em>. (We've dropped a screen of <em>Sports Champion</em> above -- a game we think looks particularly fantastic.)<br />
<br />
Oh, and the Euro Blog's mention of <em>"DUKES"</em> is just another name for that <em>Motion Fighter</em> game, which was mentioned onstage during <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/10/joystiq-live-at-sonys-gdc-2010-press-conference/">this evening's press event</a> -- so cool your heels and put the Jump to Conclusion mat back away. (We do rather like the name "Dukes," we'll admit; though we've been told it's a regional thing, and us North Americans are likely stuck with "Motion Fighter" instead.) We've yet to confirm which studios are developing which games, but you can be sure we'll ask Sony just as soon as we can. Here's the complete list of PlayStation Move titles that we know of, though, <em>for now: </em>
<ul>
    <li><em>Sports Champion<br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>The Shoot<br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>Slider<br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>TV Superstars<br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>Move Party</em></li>
    <li><em>Motion Fighter</em></li>
</ul><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/10/playstation-move-games/">The PlayStation Move games (we know of)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Mar 2010 20:55:00 EST.
