The Witcher Battle Arena launches

Geralt of Rivia and friends are available now for a witchin' good time on tablets. The Witcher Battle Arena, a MOBA designed by Fuero Games and CD Projekt RED specifically for tablets, is available now for iOS and Android devices.

"We will have different modes in the future. There will be a monster-hunting mode, kind of an isometric multiplayer. There will be a boss mode, where you will be able to fight the bosses - that will be purely a (player verses enemy) experience. And we are thinking of other competitive modes," said Tadek Zielinski, project manager on the game to us at E3. "We have a classic one-lane MOBA experience with towers, but we have a different approach because we don't want to have minions, we don't want to have farming."

The game is free-to-play with in-app purchases, but all content is unlockable by playing. If you're into The Witcher or want to see a MOBA in action on a tablet, it won't cost you a bit of gold to take it for a spin.

Witcher Battle Arena enters closed beta on Android

The Witcher Battle Arena, a free-to-play mobile MOBA, has launched its closed beta for Android devices. Interested participants can sign up at the game's site for access. No word yet on timing for iOS testing.

"Designed with fairness in mind, the game features no pay-to-win elements and allows players to unlock every piece of in-game content via gameplay," noted the company's announcement today. "Closed Beta focuses on balancing gameplay, fixing potential netcode issues and further refining in-game features."

The Witcher Battle Arena trailer gets MOBA in your action RPG

It's easy to lose hours to quests and item crafting while following The Witcher series' Geralt of Rivia, but for most adventurers, it's not an on-the-go experience. Thankfully there will soon be an alternative in The Witcher Battle Arena, due for Android, iOS and Windows Phone later this year. We played a few matches in the 3v3 MOBA-flavored battler at E3, but now you can get a glimpse of the action for yourself in the trailer after the break.

Witcher mobile MOBA cast on tablets later this year

The Witcher Battle Arena is the best parts of what happens when a company like CD Projekt Red, developer of ambitious RPGs like The Witcher series, gets outside its comfort zone and thinks about making something as ubiquitous as another MOBA. A saturated genre that is so easily dismissed with an eye-roll and a yawn, but what the hardcore RPG studio is doing with the genre was actually quite intuitive when I recently got some hands-on time with it.

Designed by CD Projekt Red and developed by Fuero Games, the tablet MOBA is a fast-paced 3v3 arena combat game that takes less than 10 minutes per match. As one developer acknowledged: a match had to fit within acceptable toilet time.
