Moore reiterates EA Sports commitment to Tiger Woods

EA Sports president Peter Moore recently restated the publisher's commitment to golfer Tiger Woods in a blog post, despite the once pristine athlete's incredibly public fall from grace. Moore reaffirmed that EA's relationship with Woods has always been "rooted in golf" and that the company "didn't form a relationship with him so that he could act as an arm's length endorser." As for Tiger's penchant for prowling, the executive concluded, "Regardless of what's happening in his personal life, and regardless of his decision to take a personal leave from the sport, Tiger Woods is still one of the greatest athletes in history."

EA told Joystiq in early December that it plans to stand by Woods. The sports superstar may be losing other endorsement deals, but as GI.biz notes, EA Sports put convicted rapist and ear connoisseur Mike Tyson on the cover of Bite Fight Night: Round 4, so what's a little philandering between friends and business buddies?

EA denies Forbes claim over Tiger Woods split

With the recent controversy golfer Tiger Woods has found himself embroiled in, Forbes National Editor Michael Ozanian believes that the biggest name in golf is done being a pitchman. Ozanian claims that companies like Electronic Arts, which publishes the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series, will drop Woods "regardless of what they are saying now."

Well, we were actually curious to hear what EA is saying now, so we contacted the publisher. A spokesperson for the company informed Joystiq, "There is no change in our marketing strategy for the franchise. Our strong relationship with Tiger for more than a decade remains unchanged."

Site Gamerinvestments.com believes there's "no way" EA is going to drop Woods. Its logic: "There is simply no other golfer that EA Sports can replace him with and there is no way that they are going to stop making one of their most successful games."

UK chart get: Wii Sports Resort soars

Nintendo's latest flagship title continues to dominate the UK sales charts. According to Chart Track, Wii Sports Resort is the top-selling title for the second week in a row. After two weeks at fourth place, Wii Fit returns to second -- we guess people were just in a mood to buy things with Wii in the title last week. We suspect the top two will look much like this for a while -- Resort may just be starting an extended period of Wii Fit-like success.

If they weren't buying games labeled Wii, they were buying things with the EA logo. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 is at the number three spot, followed by Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince and Fight Night Round 4.

UK chart get: Tourists flock to Wii Sports Resort

Now that Nintendo has finally started chartering some flights to lovely Wuhu Island, folks have been eager to snap up Wii Sports Resort for their very own ticket. In the UK, Chart Track data shows the follow-up to 2006's console pack-in is quite the popular little piece of software, as the sequel earned the top spot on last week's All Formats chart. Strong start, but will it have the staying power of Wii Fit?

Last week's winner, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, has thus been bumped down to the second spot, with EA's other darling, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, snagging bronze.

Tiger Woods 10 gets Banff Springs DLC

Electronic Arts has announced that new DLC is now available for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10. The DLC is comprised of a single course, Banff Springs. EA notes that this is the first time that the Canadian course has appeared in the Tiger Woods franchise. If you'd like to tread the fairway at Banff, you'll have to plunk down some cash though, 600 or $7.50 on Xbox 360 and PS3, respectively.

We realize that golf if an expensive hobby, but $7.50 seems a bit pricey for a single course, especially given that most games offer at least three maps for $10. Then again, golf courses are a tad bigger than most FPS maps. What say you, golf aficionados? Is Banff worth $7.50?

UK chart get: Harry Potter and the EA Games of Popularity

EA has dominated the UK charts once again, as the publisher saw three of its titles grace the top five spots in the All Formats category last week. Chart-Track data shows that the one-two punch of a new Harry Potter movie in cinemas and a new game on store shelves was too potent a potion for UK customers to ignore, with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince shooting to the top spot.

Harry and his Gryffindor chums were joined by Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, which dropped from the second spot all the way to third, and Fight Night Round 4, a previous top spotter that has plummeted to fifth place. Rounding out the remainder of the top five were Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which rested comfortably in second, and Wii Fit, which has dropped down to fourth.

Wii MotionPlus sells nearly 500K units before Wii Sports Resort releases

We've got another week until Wii Sports Resort hits retailer shelves, but as per the recently released June NPD numbers, we already know that the Wii's MotionPlus has moved nearly half a million units. Ars Technica dug up the numbers of individual units sold for the peripheral attachment (169,000) as well as the numbers for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 sold w/ MotionPlus (205,000) and found that, a full three weeks before the July 28th release of Wii Sports Resort, the peripheral add-on is already in 374,000 consumers' homes.

We all know the old adage "Good software moves hardware," but in Nintendo's case, apparently "barely any software" is enough.

Jimmy Fallon beats Tiger Woods at his own game

Fresh-faced late night host (and Engadget superfriend) Jimmy Fallon recently trounced golf superstar Tiger Woods in a Times Square showdown round of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10. Just as aging classic rockers are incapable of grasping the musical mechanics of Rock Band, it seems Mr. Woods was unable to translate his real-life adroitness to the virtual greens -- Fallon bested him by "a large margin," according to MTV Multiplayer.

Try not to take it too hard, Woodsy. We're sure you could beat him at Don't Laugh During Every Freaking Sketch During Your Six-Year Stint on Saturday Night Live 2010.

Jimmy Fallon takes on Tiger Woods this Thursday night

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon host, uh, Jimmy Fallon, laid down the gauntlet for one golf legend Tiger Woods recently, challenging him in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 on Wii. Kotaku reports that Tiger has accepted and will play Fallon on his late-night show this Thursday.

We take special interest in this because we've always had a dream of challenging Bill Laimbeer in his stellar SNES basketball romp, Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball, so you can bet we'll be cheering Fallon on all the way.

EA and Tiger Woods make viral video magic (again)

It's tough to follow the Jesus Shot, EA's viral video for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 and tongue-in-cheek reference to a glitch found in Tiger Woods 08. But, we must say, EA has managed to strike rich, comedic gold again, as the video after the break for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 featuring Rocco Mediate is pretty damn hilarious. Like, grandpa-with-an-open-fly hilarious.

Oh, and some of you may notice something at the end of the clip, to the tune of EA awarding someone with $50,000 for their own viral video. For more details on that, check out the official site.

US sales of Tiger Woods titles have generated over $500 million

Although Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 just shipped, NPD Group analyst Anita Frasier noted the EA published series has reached the milestone of a half-billion in US sales. Gamespot adds (via Forbes) that the game series is just one revenue stream for the 33-year-old athlete, who is set to hit $1 billion in career earning this year.

Fore! Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 demo now on XBL, PSN

Electronic Arts sends word that a demo for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 is available now on Xbox Live. The demo is also up on the European PSN and will be on the US PSN as soon as it updates. The demo features the Bethpage Black and Turnberry golf courses and also includes one playable event in the new Tournament Challenge Mode. Finally, and this is really just a guess on our part, the demo will probably feature Tiger Woods.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10: The video tour, PS3/360 edition

EA just showered us with new Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 assets, including a bunch of new videos showing: new golfers Anthony Kim and Rocco Mediate; some of the new courses; and the new "Live Tournament" mode works. Open a window and try to inhale some of those whiffs of someone mowing the grass on a fairway somewhere, kick back, and take a swing at the videos after the break.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10: The video tour, Wii edition

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 will be hitting all major consoles and handhelds, but the Wii MotionPlus really makes it stand out on Nintendo's flagship game unit. It offers a greater degree of club control than we've ever seen in a game, though don't expect it to make you a better golfer ... unless you can somehow graft a Wiimote onto your club. You can check out Tiger's WiiMotion Plus in action here, and then head after the break to see new videos depicting the Live Tournament mode, as well as the new golfers and courses in the game.

EA Sports MotionPlus bundles confirmed for North America and Europe

EA just sent out a press release confirming the rumored EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 bundles for Europe. Both games will ship with included MotionPlus accessories this summer. "This exclusive and limited-time offer is exciting news for sports fans who want to enhance their Wii experience for a great value with the new Wii MotionPlus right at launch with both Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10 and EA SPORTS Grand Slam Tennis," Peter Moore said in the press release. The bundles will retail for £49.99.

In addition, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 will include a MotionPlus in North America at launch -- over a month before Wii Sports Resort! GameStop has already posted a listing for the bundle (at $59.99) and a free overnight shipping offer (enter the coupon code EAGLE). No idea why Grand Slam Tennis isn't also going to have a bundle, but at least there's one more bundled game, so you can get a MotionPlus for your second controller.
