Carbon Games is the new Seattle-based, independent development house built by members of Titan Studios, creators of <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/fat-princess">Fat Princess</a></em>. Titan Studios, which was a subsidiary of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/epic-games-china">Epic Games China</a>, was "gracefully" shuttered a month ago.<br />
<br />
"Everyone that is starting Carbon is from Titan, but it's only about half of what was left. We are just bringing over the core people at this time. We had some QA, which were really great people, but we can't add people just yet," Carbon Games founder James Green told Joystiq. "We had actually been winding down Titan gracefully for a while. The longterm plan has always been for Epic Games China to exist on their own. We were just in a support/advisory role, which is why we never followed up <em>Fat Princess</em> with anything."<br />
<br />
Green tells Joystiq that Carbon is in a position where they are self-funded and can experiment. The focus is on smaller, accessible core titles. The initial games will be on PC so the Carbon team can "iterate and get player feedback faster and actually control the patching process." Their first project will not be another <em>Fat Princess</em> -- Green does say they'd like to return to that style in time, but the scope of such a title is bigger than what Carbon is currently working on.<br />
<br />
The studio plans to begin publicly testing its first project later this year. Folks interested in helping with the process should keep an eye on the <a href="http://carbongames.com/">company's website</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/05/carbon-games-formed-by-fat-princess-devs/">Carbon Games formed by Fat Princess devs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Jul 2011 15:50:00 EST. Titan Studios didn't wait too long after the launch of its multiplayer PSN title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fat-princess"><em>Fat Princess</em></a>, before it started teasing new archetypes which would appear in the game's first major DLC release. Now that said content has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/26/fat-princess-getting-plumper-with-fat-roles-dlc-on-june-29/"><em>finally</em> launched</a>, it seems Atomic Operations is wasting no time in teasing the next expansion for the game: One which might just involve waves of shambling undead.<br />
<br />
The game's catalog of in-game tips recently had a message added which reads, "I think Zombies are coming soon, run!" Helpful advice, indeed. A few fans also noticed that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/26/fat-princess-getting-plumper-with-fat-roles-dlc-on-june-29/">debut trailer</a> for the recently launched Fat Roles DLC features pumpkins in lieu of cakes in a few clips. We could be in for a whole slew of Halloween-flavored <em>Fat Princess</em> classes -- either that, or the titular overweight monarch is switching over to a more vegan-friendly diet.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/05/fat-princess-in-game-tips-teasing-zombie-dlc/">Fat Princess in-game tips teasing Zombie DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 05 Jul 2010 15:30:00 EST. It's been a long time coming, but <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fat-princess"><em>Fat Princess</em></a> is finally getting the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/19/fat-princess-ninjas-wont-be-lonesome-anymore/">long overdue</a> pirates and ninjas DLC. In addition to the premium "Fat Roles" content, the online-only PSN game will be patched to version 1.06, which adds a rather significant new feature: four-player same-screen co-op.<br />
<br />
Being able to bring three local friends into an online match does a lot to enhance the overall experience. There's the obvious benefit of being able to chat and coordinate strategy in person, but there's also the added bonus of enhanced spawns: so long as one member of the party remains alive, any fallen teammates can revive quickly at a captured tower. (No need to go all the way back to base!)<br />
<br />
While the 1.06 patch is free, the Fat Roles DLC is a premium add-on. All players will be able to see the new hat which activates the three new classes (pirates, ninjas and giants), however only those that have purchased the DLC will be able to pick up and wear the hats. Obviously, each of the classes have their own unique abilities: pirates have a gun, which can be charged for a more lethal attack; ninjas can throw shurikens; and giants can instantly kill other players (but cannot regenerate health). In addition to these base powers, the Fat Roles offer additional special powers.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/21/preview-fat-princess-1-06-and-fat-roles-dlc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Preview: Fat Princess 1.06 &amp; Fat Roles DLC</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/21/preview-fat-princess-1-06-and-fat-roles-dlc/">Preview: Fat Princess 1.06 &amp; Fat Roles DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Jun 2010 06:30:00 EST. Say what you will about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fat-princess"><em>Fat Princess</em></a> developer Titan Studios -- but don't say the team behind the slightly chunky Capture the Flag title is unappreciative. In <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2010/01/20/fat-princess-all-hail-the-fans-with-patch-1-04/">a recent PlayStation.Blog post</a>, the developer thanked its fans for their continued support, and announced that the game will receive a patch tomorrow. The update includes a few alterations to how online rankings are calculated -- but the <strike>meat</strike> cream filling of the patch is a brand new, totally free map, titled "Brownie Town." <br />
<br />
No further details on the new playground were given, but we're guessing it'll be a symmetrical metropolitan area covered in sweet, chocolatey pastries. Let us know how it is once the game is updated tomorrow!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/20/fat-princess-gets-patch-for-the-fans-free-brownie-town-map/">Fat Princess gets patch for the fans, free 'Brownie Town' map</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Jan 2010 15:15:00 EST. Jeff Rubenstein over at PlayStation.Blog recently got a chance to check out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fat-princess"><em>Fat Princess'</em></a> new stompin' grounds at the game's demo booth at PAX -- you'll find <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/09/fat-princess-new-pork/">his video preview</a> of the Roman-esque <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/09/05/new-fat-princess-map-new-pork-revealed/"><em>New Pork</em> arena</a> posted after the jump. The map not only possesses a visual aesthetic that stands out from the title's pre-existing levels, it's also got a neat instant-travel sewer system and a central resource hub that should lend itself to some fairly hectic skirmishes.<br />
<br />
Also discussed in the video is the upcoming content patch, which will renovate the ranking system, balance the classes a bit and make the team switching mechanic less exploitable. Not discussed are the quartet of new classes hinted at by Titan Studios last month. We want -- nay, <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/08/18/titan-teases-fat-princess-ninjas/"><em>we need</em> ninjas</a> in this game.<br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/12/titan-demoes-fat-princess-new-pork-map/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Titan demoes Fat Princess' New Pork map</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/12/titan-demoes-fat-princess-new-pork-map/">Titan demoes Fat Princess' New Pork map</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 12 Sep 2009 16:30:00 EST. If you thought <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fat-princess"><em>Fat Princess</em></a> was all about cake, then you were wrong! During PAX, the Titan Studios team announced plans for new DLC for the PSN multiplayer game. The first revelation is a new map entitled "New Pork" that looks more like Rome than a swine-flavored version of New York. Titan Studios is promising new kinds of strategies for use in the new map: "Use multiple sewer shortcuts to sneak up behind your enemies, blow up barricades to open up new routes of assault and defend your princess from the rooftops."<br /><br />According to the dev, this is just "the beginning of additional content for <em>Fat Princess</em>." Considering <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/23/the-kingdom-comes-to-fat-princess/">all</a> the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/20/titan-studios-skips-robot-zombies-adds-chefs/">teases</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/19/fat-princess-ninjas-wont-be-lonesome-anymore/">leaked</a> so <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/18/titan-teases-fat-princess-ninjas/">far</a>, we're pretty certain that whatever Titan is cooking up is going to be huge -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/fat-princesss-patch-of-ample-proportions/"><em>fat</em></a>, even.<br /><br />[Thanks, redskyy!]<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/05/new-fat-princess-map-new-pork-revealed/">New Fat Princess map 'New Pork' revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 05 Sep 2009 13:00:00 EST. Okay, so let's backtrack a bit here. Titan Studios has already invited <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/19/fat-princess-ninjas-wont-be-lonesome-anymore/">pirates</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/18/titan-teases-fat-princess-ninjas/">ninjas</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/20/titan-studios-skips-robot-zombies-adds-chefs/">chefs</a> to the <em>Fat Princess</em> party. Now, it looks like we might see some other royalty: the kings? Titan's been very tight-lipped about all these reveals so far. Makes sense, too, considering the addition of four new classes would change up the game quite a bit! We're wondering if the kings can also succumb to the deadly allure of cake. Yesterday, Titan Studios teased <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/18/titan-teases-fat-princess-ninjas/">ninjas</a> for <em>Fat Princess</em>. But what's a ninja to do without the help of their mortal enemies? Looks like PSN's online cake-fest will continue the ages-long saga of the epic battle between ninjas ... and <a href="http://titanstudios.com/blog/2009/08/avast/">pirates</a>. Predictable? Yes, but <em>far</em> from unwelcome.<br /><br />Who else thinks Titan should go one step further and announce Pirates versus Ninjas ... versus Zombies for <em>Fat Princess</em>?<br /><br />[Thanks, HeavyToka!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/19/fat-princess-ninjas-wont-be-lonesome-anymore/">Fat Princess ninjas won't be lonesome anymore</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Aug 2009 14:30:00 EST. Just when you thought the PlayStation news was about to stop and let bloggers go to sleep, Titan Studios shows off this image on their <a href="http://titanstudios.com/blog/2009/08/check-it/">blog</a>. Royalty thieves living in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/08/fat-princess-online-fixing-patch-live-in-north-america-coming-t/">North America have been enjoying</a> relatively lag- and disconnection-free online multiplayer in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fat-princess">Fat Princess</a> </em>for about a week now. Europeans no longer have a reason to be jealous -- the online-fixing Patch 1.02 is <a href="http://titanstudios.com/blog/2009/08/fat-princess-eu-1-02-patch-live/">now live in their respective continent</a>. Don't believe us? Go ahead and boot the game up, and you should get the download prompt. See? There. Now, don't you <em>ever</em> dispute our credibility again, or else we're going to have a <em>conversation</em>. With our <em>fists</em>.<br /><br />The only place yet to get the patch is Asia, though Titan Studios promises to have that territory up and running "by the end of the week."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/14/fat-princess-online-multiplayer-receives-patch-in-europe/">Fat Princess online multiplayer receives patch in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Aug 2009 12:15:00 EST. If you were an early adopter of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fat-princess"><em>Fat Princess</em></a> living in North America who was let down by the game's disconnection-prone online multiplayer, you may want to give it another shot -- Titan Studios recently <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/fat-princesss-patch-of-ample-proportions/">released a patch for the title</a> which is designed to improve server stability, reduce lag, and fix a few in-game bugs (such as broken hat machines and scoring exploits).<br /><br />Fret not, European cake-feeders -- according to <a href="http://titanstudios.com/blog/2009/08/fat-princess-sony-america-patch-live/">a recent blog post announcing the patch's release</a>, the update will be coming to your fair continent next week. Until then, you can always spend your time playing the game's entertaining single-player offerings. Better yet, you can don a silly hat and start throwing cake at ladies in <em>real life</em>. We're sure they'd appreciate that.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/08/fat-princess-online-fixing-patch-live-in-north-america-coming-t/">Fat Princess online-fixing patch live in North America, coming to Europe next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 08 Aug 2009 14:00:00 EST. As <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Fat-Princess/" style="font-style: italic;">Fat Princess</a> fans have already realized, Titan's portly PSN exclusive is plagued with connection and balance issues; but <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/02/titan-studios-says-fat-princess-fixes-are-on-the-way/">a fix is on the way</a>. While Titan Studios has yet to put a date on the upcoming patch, it has revealed a list of some of the issues that will be addressed. According to <a href="http://titanstudios.com/blog/2009/08/feedback-fixes-faq-and-strategies/">a recent post</a> on the dev's blog, the patch will tackle connection issues, lag, hosting problems, scoreboard errors, dead hat machines and scoring exploits -- to name a few.<br /> <br /> The plump princess's dev team has also compiled a growing list of balance changes and feature requests based on player feedback for future updates, including the addition of new modes, maps and classes to an already rotund release. Titan promises an online FAQ will be made available soon to address upcoming changes in greater detail -- a full listing of issues and future changes can be found after the break.<br />
<br />[Via <a href="http://www.ps3center.net/news/3448/fat-princess-update-detailed/">PS3Center</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/fat-princesss-patch-of-ample-proportions/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fat Princess's patch of ample proportions</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/fat-princesss-patch-of-ample-proportions/">Fat Princess's patch of ample proportions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Aug 2009 15:15:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fat-princess"><em>Fat Princess</em></a> players rejoice! Titan Studios announced this weekend that it's hard at work on a patch that will fix the multitude of online multiplayer issues that folks have been dealing with. Notably, FPers have been encountering unsightly lag, causing many a broken heart (and more importantly, lost matches). <br />
<br />
<a href="http://titanstudios.com/blog/2009/08/update-from-titan-fixes-coming/">Titan says</a> that it's well aware of the problems -- thanks in no small part to an active, vocal community -- and that it's "working with Sony now to get the patch into the Sony testing process as soon as possible." The company hasn't released a more specific window for the patch's arrival on PlayStation Network, but we've asked Sony for comment and will update this post when we hear back.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> Sony has told us that while there isn't a more solid release window set for the patch, we will know as soon as it has one. Sorry, folks!<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">Just another American PSN update today. A little better than normal updates perhaps, thanks to the inclusion of <span style="font-style: italic;">Fat Princess</span>, but it's also a red letter day. As I'll be moving on next week, it's the last time this blogger will be handling the weekly PSN updates -- both American and <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/european-psn-releases-for-july-30/">European</a> -- after <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2007/05/10/calling-all-cars-due-for-release-tonight/">over two years</a>. Wow, updates were different back then. <br /><br />Don't worry, though, you'll be in the safe hands of Alexander Sliwinski, who I took over this very post from back when Joystiq underwent restructuring in January. Anyway, what are you still doing here? You've got weighty princesses to rescue!<br /></div>

<div align="left">Tomorrow, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fat-princess"><em>Fat Princess</em></a> begins its invading spree. First it'll invade the <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/european-psn-releases-for-july-30/">PlayStation Store</a>, then it'll invade <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/07/29/motorstorm-game-launching-crashes-into-playstation-home-fat-princess-ambles-slowly-behind%E2%80%A6/">PlayStation <em>Home</em></a> and then, finally, the game will invade <em>our hearts</em>. The European <em>Home</em> Events space will be decked out with <em>Fat Princess</em> characters and you will be tasked with answering eight questions about the game in order to win slices of cake. Obtaining all eight slices will net you a Princess Throne for your <em>Home </em>apartment. <br /><br />We're not sure whether this space will be available in the US version of <em>Home</em> too, but don't worry Americans, we've got something for you here, too. The <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/trophies-fat-princess/">Trophy list</a> for <em>Fat Princess</em> has been handed to us on a crumb-littered silver platter, and you can check out some of the hilarious names the devs have dreamt up right now. Our favorite? "The Cake Is Not A Lie," obviously!</div>

<div align="left">The release date for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fat-princess"><em>Fat Princess</em></a> -- which has been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/20/youll-have-to-over-wait-for-fat-princess/">nebulous</a> for a while now -- has finally been nailed down. You'll be playing some class-based cartoony multiplayer (with a dash of bloody ultraviolence) this Thursday, July 30. This is a simultaneous release for American, European and Asian regions -- though a Japanese release date has yet to be confirmed. <br /><br />While the adorable cartoon protagonists will be losing arms and legs liberally, you'll be able to keep yours firmly attached thanks to a reasonable asking price of $15. No doubt European and Asian prices will be announced soon. Make sure you check out the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/07/27/fat-princess-worth-the-weight-heres-the-date/">PlayStation Blog</a> for a PlayStation Eye interview with the developers from Titan Studios.</div>

The <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/05/19/fat-princess-dev-diary-ah-for-the-love-of-cake/">PlayStation.Blog</a> has updated with a dev diary for the game which talks about the various inspirations for the game. One interesting tidbit to note: <em>Fat Princess</em> was actually a work-in-progress title, but the producers couldn't think of any better way of labeling the game. Good thing they kept it, because <em>Fat Princess</em> is becoming a real icon amongst the PlayStation hardcore.<br /><br />You'll be able to watch this video again on the PlayStation Store later this week. Until then, feel free to watch this over and over again.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/19/fat-princess-dev-diary-reveals-more-footage-cake/">Fat Princess dev diary reveals more footage, cake</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 May 2009 17:00:00 EST. We realize that New Zealand is like, a bajillion miles away, but we thought we'd bring your attention to a <a href="http://nz.playstation.com/games_media/release_schedule.jhtml">Kiwi-bound PlayStation release schedule</a>, which finally provides a firm release date for Titan Studios' upcoming PSN title, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Fat%20Princess">Fat Princess</a></em>. According to the list, PS3 owners can begin strengthening <em>soul-crushingly negative</em> obesity stereotypes when the game drops June 18. We still don't know whether the States will see a simultaneous release, but it certainly fits nicely within our previously promised <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/27/gdc09-fat-princess-offers-single-player-story-planned-for-summ/">summer launch window</a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fat-princess-3-24-09/">Fat Princess (3/24/09)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fat-princess-3-24-09/#1450242"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/black-forest-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fat-princess-3-24-09/#1450243"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/black-forest-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fat-princess-3-24-09/#1450251"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/rocky-road-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fat-princess-3-24-09/#1450252"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/rocky-road-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fat-princess-3-24-09/#1450254"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/rocky-road-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/12/new-zealand-sony-release-list-dates-fat-princess-for-june-18/">Sony New Zealand release list dates Fat Princess for June 18</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 12 Apr 2009 18:00:00 EST. It's been a little while since we've seen or heard anything new regarding Titan Studios' upcoming PSN online CTP (Capture The Princess) game, <em>Fat Princess</em>. This new batch of seventeen screenshots, showing some new levels and bases from the game, should keep you busy until the game launches. We've loved the look of <span style="font-style: italic;">Fat Princess</span> since we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/18/impressions-fat-princess/">first saw it</a> at E3. These videos from the CES show floor remind us why. The <span style="font-style: italic;">Castle Crashers</span> meets <span style="font-style: italic;">Wind Waker</span> art style, coupled with the simple (yet deep) team-based gameplay have us itching to try it out for ourselves. Hopefully it won't be too long before we see the game's release on the PSN. We expect this game to be a big PSN hit this year. Check out the videos after the break to find out why for yourselves.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/12/ces-fat-princess-vids-remind-us-we-really-want-to-play/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>CES Fat Princess vids remind us we really want to play</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/12/ces-fat-princess-vids-remind-us-we-really-want-to-play/">CES Fat Princess vids remind us we really want to play</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Jan 2009 19:30:00 EST. Try to follow along: In 2006, Epic Games - the North Carolina-based devs behind <em>Gears of War</em> - opened up its very own Shanghai-based studio to outsource its own Unreal Engine-related work to, as well as cater to external third-party licensees like Ubisoft Shanghai. Cost per man month in North America? $9000. Cost per man month in China? $4000, according to a <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=10971">Gamasutra report</a>. So now we all know what Epic Games China is. <br /><br />Which is why this morning's announcement that Epic Games China has formed Titan Studios - a "wholly owned subsidiary based in Seattle" developing Sony's colorful (albeit <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/so-it-begins-feminist-gamers-decry-sonys-fat-princess/">controversial</a>) PSN title, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Fat-Princess/">Fat Princess</a></em> - slightly puzzling. First, we've only known <em>Fat Princess</em> since Sony showed it off at E3 and, even then, the developers were known as "Titan Studios" and not their pre-Epic precursor "Darkstar Industries".<br /><br />Second, why does the "content production outsourcing and game development services" component of Epic Games want to form its own development studio? (Or, in other words, why didn't Epic Games proper "form" Titan Studios in much the same way it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/20/epic-believes-people-can-fly-acquires-majority-stake/">acquired People Can Fly</a>?) Epic's Jay Wilbur explains, "Not only are Titan developing award-winning, original IP of their own, they also have resources available to help other studios increase productivity and minimize risk." Their best business advice in these rocky economic times: Be owned by Epic Games.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fat-princess/">Fat Princess</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fat-princess/#2056562"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/fp_e3_gore_6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fat-princess/#2056563"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/fp_e3_gore_8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fat-princess/#2056564"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/fp_e3_gore_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fat-princess/#2056565"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/fp_e3_nogore_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fat-princess/#2056566"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/fp_e3_nogore_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/11/epic-games-china-retroactively-announces-titan-studios-fat/">Epic Games China (retroactively?) announces Titan Studios - Fat Princess dev</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Nov 2008 11:50:00 EST. Many of you have been asking us "where is <em>Fat Princess</em>, oh darn it?" Well, looks like it's 2009. First unveiled at E3 this year, the downloadable title earned a lot of buzz (both <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/18/impressions-fat-princess/">positive</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/feminists-unhappy-with-fat-princess/">negative</a>) for its cute, gory, cake-filled concept.<br /><br />A <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/titan-studios-launch-seattle-based-offshoot-of-epic-games--shanghai-based-offshoot--if-that-makes-sense">press release</a> from Epic Games China has officially "announced" the "opening" of Titan Studios, the developer of the upcoming game. There are a few things we're confused by. First, why is Epic Games China opening a studio in Seattle? Last we checked, Seattle wasn't a part of China (unless, that is, the takeover has begun ...). Also, why is the studio being announced <em>now</em>? Maybe that's why <em>Fat Princess</em> is taking so long to develop! The studio wasn't actually official yet!<br /><br />Titan Studios brings to it developers with experience at companies including Ubisoft, Epic Games, Scion Studios, Blizzard Entertainment and Lionhead Studios. Titan Studios is not only working on <em>Fat Princess</em>, but a number of other Unreal Engine 3 games, including a massively multiplayer online game.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/11/fat-princess-coming-2009-says-developer-press-release/">Fat Princess coming 2009, says developer press release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Nov 2008 11:15:00 EST. Shown for the first time at E3, Sony and Titan Studios' upcoming PSN title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fat-princess"><em>Fat Princess</em></a>, grabbed us with its classic <em>Zelda</em>-like presentation, 32-player online, and off-color infusion of blood &amp; guts for such an otherwise cutesy title. We also figured there would more than a few folks none too pleased by its title.<br /><br />It's not just the title that's angering the folks behind sites <a href="http://www.feministgamers.com/?p=466">Feminist Gamers</a> and <a href="http://shakespearessister.blogspot.com/2008/07/i-write-letters.html">Shakesville</a>, female-run gaming blogs who are already voicing their displeasure to Sony. It's also the concept that players must feed the titular princess - who starts out slim - in order to make her fat, and thus harder to capture.<br /><br />Melissa McEwan of Shakesville writes: "Congrats on your awesome new game, Sony. I'm positively <em>thrilled</em> to see such unyielding dedication to creating a new generation of fat-hating, heteronormative assholes," while Feminist Gamer's "Mighty Ponygirl" suggests a simple gameplay switcheroo would solve the problem (and change the title). "Instead of running out into the forest to find cake to fatten up the princess with, why not go out and find gold (which is a lot heavier than cake) to stuff into a treasure chest," she says, adding, "The more gold in the chest, the heavier it would be, and the harder it would be to carry."<br /><br />Despite the (still limited) fury being directed at Sony, we suspect that there's a fat chance either the title or gameplay will change.<br /><br />[<strong>Update:</strong> Titan Studios' art director, James Green, emailed in to say: "Does it make it better or worse that the concept artist (who designed the look, characters, everything) is a girl?"]<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/07/22/feminists-unhappy-with-fat-princess/">PS3 Fanboy</a>]<br /><br />Source - <a href="http://www.feministgamers.com/?p=466">Feminist Gamer</a><br />Source - <a href="http://shakespearessister.blogspot.com/2008/07/i-write-letters.html">Shakesville</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/so-it-begins-feminist-gamers-decry-sonys-fat-princess/">So it begins: Feminist gamers decry Sony's Fat Princess</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 Jul 2008 19:25:00 EST.
