Single-player leaderboards, player-created track leaderboards, and multiplayer ranks won't be affected by this change.

RedLynx recommends that players stay out of multiplayer for four to six hours after the update, in order to make sure that any scores earned are recorded correctly. What else can you do between the hours of two and eight AM? Sleeping is one option. Just throwing that out there.
Trials Evolution getting bugfix update, resetting multiplayer leaderboards originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 29 May 2012 22:00:00 EST. For one, Savage Grenadiers and Savage Drones can now perform SWAT turns in Beast Mode.

King of the Hill is also tended to -- ring locations are now visibile in spectator mode, and on some levels the ring locations have been moved. Other multiplayer tweaks include balancing the pistol fire rate between hosts and non-host players. And one particular glitch involving the elevator area on the map Hotel has been fixed.

The minor maintenance, which goes live at 2AM PT tomorrow, precedes the launch of the Forces of Nature DLC pack next week. When I tried to load up the game to test online again, I was alerted to this fact, and then kicked out to the main menu.

Having since completed the procedure and updated the game, I thought I would demonstrate how updates are applied on Vita games.

Sick and tired of people hiding in that one spot on Mercy and, well, mercilessly gunning you down? Well, Epic's finally fixed that (among other things) in its third title update for Gears of War 3.

You'll be prompted to download the update upon booting up your game today. It also addresses ghost camera issues and allows players to prime a revive for a DBNO (down but not out) teammate by holding in the Y button before they approach. It's basically the same thing as holding in the X button before approaching a weapon pickup.

Random Quickmatch playlist map order is another addition, as is non-Versus mode weapon swaps in Horde mode. Now, players will find the default weapons on each map that were available when the game initially shipped, as opposed to the current weapon assignments found in online versus multiplayer matches.

You probably wouldn't guess it by talking to one of us, but petrolheads do have the ability to get burnt out on a specific vehicle. It may take a long time, granted, but eventually we'll get bored with our current ride and wish that we had some new iron to tool around with. It's called "Gear Acquisition Syndrome" (GAS), and GAS can be devastatingly expensive if left unchecked.

Thankfully though, the GAS methadone clinic known as Gran Turismo 5 is here to keep those urges in check with a title update and several new sets of wheels, all of which become available on December 20. Car Pack 2 will set you back $3.99 and will furnish your ever-growing garage with a 2012 Nissan GT-R Black R35, a 2010 Volkswagen Scirocco R, a 2010 Volkswagen Gold VI R and the 2011 Mini Cooper S. Additionally, anyone who has purchased GT5 DLC in the past will also receive the Gran Turismo Racing Kart 125 SP, which is go-kart for some reason.

The (free) 2.02 title update also includes a set of wheels: The recently revealed 2013 Toyota GT-86. Beyond that, the update boasts a slew of interface improvements and even nets you 10 oil change and car wash coupons (in-game, of course). Hopefully this will keep our greasy little mechanic hands busy enough to prevent us from taking out a second mortgage and buying that Thunderbird we've been eyeing.

Gallery: Gran Turismo 5 (December DLC)

Gran Turismo 5 2.02 update and DLC lands Dec. 20 originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 18 Dec 2011 11:00:00 EST. Modern Warfare 3 players are in for a few treats today. First off, Activision's blockbuster has been updated with multiplayer playlist tweaks and an entirely new mode. Dubbed "Drop Zone," the latter tasks players with capturing and holding a ... drop zone. The team with the most players in the zone will receive a care package every fifteen seconds. The twist: Earning care packages is the only way to achieve pointstreaks. Drop Zone marks the first entry in the new Community Playlists section, which will play host to "popular or unique private match modes" created by users themselves.

The second playlist change is the addition of Hardcore Headquarters Ricochet to the Hardcore playlist. Furthermore, all Hardcore modes will now feature ricochet, meaning that all friendly fire will be reflected back to the attacker. In other words: Shooting a teammate is basically shooting yourself.

Finally, Infinity Ward community guru Robert Bowling has tweeted that a title update will be available today to address "Host Disadvantage" / "Lag Compensation."
Modern Warfare 3 adds Community Playlists, title update originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 16 Dec 2011 11:20:00 EST. As much as we're all enjoying our lack of sleep and food, plugging away countless hours in Skyrim, there are a multitude of bugs that need to be addressed. It would appear the wait is coming to an end, as Pete Hines took to Twitter to confirm title updates are incoming soon.

Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 updates have been submitted, with the PC soon to follow. Hines says current estimates for the updates to go live are the week after Thanksgiving -- that's the week after next, for all of you non-Americans -- but that's hardly set in stone. In the meantime, just try to keep saving as often as you can!
Skyrim updates coming the week after Thanksgiving, Hines hopes originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 19 Nov 2011 12:00:00 EST. When THQ promised a "wide range of exciting DLC" for its shooter Homefront, we honestly expected something besides a map pack. Nowadays, if your map pack doesn't have at least one celebrity in it, we're not even taking the call. Homefront's first piece of DLC is the on-Xbox-first "Fire Sale" map pack which "will carry you further into the heart of a war torn and twisted America." No word on the number of maps in this pack, nor the modes supported, price, or number of celebrity cameos. About the only thing we do know is the name and the date: June 7.

More concerned with being able to play the Homefront maps you already have? THQ also announced that a Title Update is available now for Xbox 360 that offers improvements to the game's "overall stability and network connectivity." Some of the higher profile improvements include: "game returns to MP menu instead of Main Menu after leaving a match," "Max ping limits for server connections" which should prevent connections to distant servers, "game freeze and hitching," and the "joining friends feature." As a kind of thank you, THQ is including the "Ability Pack" which features some new goodies for your multiplayer game. Get a full rundown at the Source link below.

[Update: THQ let us know that a PC patch went live yesterday and a PS3 patch is in the works, but has been delayed due to the PSN outage. And what about those details on the DLC? We'll get "more detailed information" on the 7th, we're told. In fact, it should be the most detailed information since it will actually be out and all.]
First Homefront DLC is 'Fire Sale' map pack coming June 7; 360 title update brings fixes, Ability Pack originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 26 May 2011 14:30:00 EST. One of the only knocks we gave Section 8: Prejudice regarded its matchmaking system. Specifically, our review mentioned the game's lack of a party system and the general difficulty of playing with Xbox Live friends online. Apparently ours wasn't the only complaint, as TimeGate has addressed community feedback with a new title update.

While the new update won't add a party system to the game, we've been informed by TimeGate that "servers are more likely to try to put friends or Xbox LIVE Party members together during auto-balancing." Furthermore, ranked Swarm matches will now only require two human players instead of four.

Additional fixes were also applied to usability, dedicated servers and a pair of crashing issues. In what is, perhaps, the least funny April Fools' Day gag yet, THQ has released a new patch for the Xbox 360 version of Homefront, which fixes the "profile freezing" issue that has plagued the game; similar to the one found in S.H.R.A.P.N.E.L. Squad. A few problems:

1. THQ made the announcement yesterday. (Sorry guys, against the rules)
2. The profile freeze is an actual bug -- what's funny about that?
3. The patch was actually released, so it's barely even a prank at this point.

THQ got closer with its tease of a "wide range of exciting DLC" that's in the works, but where are the hilarious details? Does the DLC turn all the guns into rubber chickens? Put bananas peels all over the battleground? You have to give us something.
Homefront Xbox patch live, 'wide range of exciting DLC' inbound originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 01 Apr 2011 11:00:00 EST. Dead Nation is terrific, but it has one shortcoming that many have considered a deal breaker: It lacks voice chat for online co-op play. That issue will be addressed in a new patch, to be deployed next Tuesday, March 7.

The title update will not only add voice chat, but a few other features, including the abilities to save at checkpoints (which should make those challenging final levels a little easier) and to copy save files to back them up. In its post on PlayStation Blog, Housemarque teases "further surprises" will be included, as well.
Dead Nation patch coming next week, adds voice chat and checkpoint saves originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 04 Mar 2011 16:30:00 EST. Following in the footsteps of its PC counterpart, the XBLA version of Breach is now patched. The update fixes "all known crashes," addresses lag issues and squashes a number of bugs, according to developer Atomic Games. Check out the full list of fixes after the break.

Additionally, the time limit for online play in the free trial version of the game has been extended to one hour. As an added bonus, those who've already exhausted their free trials will receive the new, full hour. The full title update is available now and will be automatically applied upon starting Breach.
Continue reading PSA: Breach patched for lag on XBLA, trial time extended

PSA: Breach patched for lag on XBLA, trial time extended originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 15 Feb 2011 03:00:00 EST. Good news, Abstergo Agents -- you've got the day off! Your rigorous training exercises on the online multiplayer portion of the Xbox 360 version of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood have been interrupted. That's not due to the current national holiday; rather, it's because some players seem to be having trouble downloading the game's latest title update, locking them out of any and all of Brotherhood's online offerings.

Ubisoft has acknowledged the error, and is currently working to repair the damage. We'll let you know when you can get back to your regularly scheduled murder and stuff.

Update: Whatever was causing the update hiccup has been remedied, according to Ubisoft. We just downloaded the patch with no problem, and would wager that you can now do the same.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Xbox update glitch fixed [update] originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 17 Jan 2011 14:30:00 EST. Issues plaguing Red Dead Redemption and its Undead Nightmare and Liars & Cheats add-ons (both disc-based and downloads) should be nipped in the bud today, Rockstar reports. Upon booting up the game, users will be prompted with a mandatory download, that resolves issues including the inability to unlock certain Achievements or Trophies, and a glitch in which players would get stuck in the environment, especially when sitting down at specific Liar's Dice chairs. It's quite a large list of fixes, so hit up the link below for the full list.

Of course, this update won't correct the behavior of all the vicious, murderous wildlife in the game. We're afraid that's a problem you (and your trusty six-shooter) will have to resolve on your own.
Red Dead Redemption title update fixes DLC glitches originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 06 Jan 2011 17:30:00 EST. Hydrophobia launched this past fall alongside numerous tepid reviews, including our own. In an effort to mend some of the damage done by said reviews, the game's developer is issuing a major title update tomorrow -- dubbed "Hydrophobia Pure" -- with a laundry list of fixes so long, only Lady Gaga's maid could outdo it.

Hydrophobia developer Dark Energy Digital claims to have addressed level design, AI behavior and the cover system, and has promised to remap controls to something more general -- A to jump, LT to aim. There's also "more realistic character water resistance" -- there was virtually no way to predict AI reaction to a flood of water when we last played the game. Hydrophobia's trial version is also getting tweaked and being lengthened "to allow players to sample more of the game for free."

Alongside the dozens of fixes, the game's price is dropping from 1200 MS Points ($15) to 800 ($10) as of tomorrow, so hold out for another 24 hours if you've been fixin' on buying the XBLA title. The developer also noted that the fixes in this update will apply to future games in the Hydrophobia series, as well as the eventual PSN version. Head past the break for a detailed list of the changes in tomorrow's title update and a video of the changes in action.

Gallery: Hydrophobia -- 'Pure' title update

Continue reading Hydrophobia overhauled in 'Pure' patch, dropping to $10

Hydrophobia overhauled in 'Pure' patch, dropping to $10 originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 20 Dec 2010 09:10:00 EST. Call of Duty: Black Ops players on the PC -- assuredly tired of the care package glitch dominating their online gaming -- will be happy to hear that Treyarch detailed forthcoming fixes to the game's multiplayer. Beyond the forthcoming care package glitch fix, clipping on various maps is being closed up and leaderboards will soon reflect "all kills, deaths, and assists properly." This is far from the first patch that PC Black Ops players have received, with issues being reported in the game's single and multiplayer right out of the gate.

No ETA is given on the fixes, though Treyarch community man Josh Olin characterizes them as "in progress." In the meantime, well, enjoy your infinite SAM turret killstreaks!
Another Call of Duty: Black Ops PC patch to be deployed originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 06 Dec 2010 10:30:00 EST. At some point today, PS3 Rock Band 3 users will be prompted to download a mandatory title update -- the Xbox 360 patch is coming "in the near future". The first of two planned updates resolves some persistent glitches in the game, including freezes that take place during the amp loading vignette and when messing around with eyebrows in the character creator. " All eyebrows are now safe," the forum thread assures us.

Additionally, an exploit where players could constantly pause mid-song to inflate score has been addressed in the update. Now any performance during a song that's been paused multiple times won't have its score reported. Also, we reluctantly point out that one of the more dreaded issues, the PS3 keyboard audio glitch, is not included in today's update. Harmonix has acknowledged the issue and is looking into a fix.
With a 5MB title update released this morning on Xbox Live, Lionhead Studios has corrected some major Fable 3 issues. Primary among the fixes: quest progression issues (enemies not appearing, player getting physically stuck in certain parts of the world, etc.) and total game crashes.

Additionally, various online multiplayer issues have been resolved, as has Jasper's curious case of sudden laryngitis. We guess "a few weeks" means "next week" in Gearbox-speak. Gearbox Software has posted an update on its forums, addressing the continued absence of the latest Borderlands patch. Title Update 1.41 was meant to arrive around the October 12 launch of the first-person shooter's Game of the Year Edition, but will now launch "within a couple of weeks."

"The Title Update is finished and in the process of being reviewed for launch. We are almost green lit across the board for this free update to be launched, but we still need just one more light to turn green," wrote Gearbox marketing coordinator Adam Fletcher. "In other words - we're *almost* there! We expect that last light to turn green within a couple of weeks, possibly sooner. Once this happens, the Title Update will be made immediately available for all platforms."

The patch will raise the level cap to 58 for all players, and up to 69 for those who have downloaded The Secret Armory of General Knoxx. The level cap has been the greatest source of frustration for players who have already hit the ceiling and don't want experience earned in Claptrap's New Robot Revolution going to waste. The update will also fix some Achievement/Trophy glitches, and adjust item drops and enemies according to the new level cap.

Gearbox didn't elaborate on the reasons behind the delay, but talk of that "last" green light reminds us of a situation encountered by the makers of Monday Night Combat. According to Uber Entertainment's blog, their October title update was "caught up in a perfect storm of software changes and tons of new games coming out," and consequently became backlogged within Microsoft's certification process. To be fair, there are three platforms at play here, and we don't know whether Gearbox will insist on a simultaneous multiplatform release.
Borderlands cap-raising title update due 'within a couple of weeks' originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 27 Oct 2010 17:00:00 EST. Ahead of tomorrow's Undead Nightmare DLC release, Rockstar has amended Red Dead Redemption with an automatic title update. Undramatically named "Title Update 1.05," the free digital addition to RDR brings with it "Friendly Free Roam" mode (the same as Free Roam, just without all the player-on-player murder), as well as a mess of fixes for everything from griefing to missing co-op Achievements.

Given that the patch also adds some preparations for tomorrow's DLC, Title Update 1.05 is a mandatory update before you start wranglin' the undead. Head past the break for the nitty gritty details on everything the update includes.
Continue reading Red Dead Redemption readies for zombie infestation with title update 1.05

Red Dead Redemption readies for zombie infestation with title update 1.05 originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 25 Oct 2010 12:55:00 EST. Uber Entertainment's fantastic XBLA game, Monday Night Combat, has finally received that desperately needed title update. According to the developer, the update was submitted to Microsoft for certification over a month ago and got caught up in "a perfect storm" that delayed it until now. Allegedly, the first DLC pack, which will be free, should be out now "sooner than later."

The title update fixes several technical hiccups and also addresses the exploits that plagued the game shortly after launch. We're looking forward to jumping back into the Monday Night Combat arena and really hope future exploit-fixing updates don't get caught up in cert -- losing isn't fun, but losing to cheaters is the worst. Check out the full list of changes in the title update after the break.
Continue reading Monday Night Combat title update goes live

Monday Night Combat title update goes live originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 13 Oct 2010 18:20:00 EST. We've got bad news and good news. First, the bad news: The new Borderlands DLC pack - that's Claptrap's New Robot Revolution - won't include the two most requested features. Those would be a new level cap and a rebalancing of the main game to accomodate the new level cap. And neither of those will be included with the latest DLC.

Now the good news: They are being included in a free update for the game across all three platforms, Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford told a live PAX audience that his studio resisted making it a part of a DLC pack since, if they included those features, "you'd have to buy every previous DLC" to get access to said features. So, instead, Pitchford said they were going to release a "free update to Borderlands that will both rebalance the original game around the level cap and increase the level cap for everyone."

But Pitchford said the studio still struggled with how high to raise it. On the one hand, Gearbox didn't want to match the 11-point upgrade that many people paid for with the "General Knox" DLC, but on the other the devs didn't want it to be too low, like 5-points. Instead, they came up with another number. "With the current level cap at 61," Pitchford teased, "we realized if we added 8 levels ... "

The audience groans.

So the new level cap is 69 and it will be released sometime around the October 12th Borderlands Game of the Year Edition release.
Free Borderlands update will raise level cap, rebalance main game originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 05 Sep 2010 19:00:00 EST. Uber Entertainment has announced that a big Monday Night Combat patch has entered testing and will soon be ready for certification. The title update is set to fix several issues with the game, notably the ability for players to damage Moneyball shields, and host migration problems. Several classes will receive tweaks as well, with the brunt going to the Support and Assassin. Devious Support players will be displeased to know they won't be able to hack through walls anymore, while Assassins will be happy to hear that grapples won't take as long to recharge after a whiff.

The updated version of MNC will be playable at PAX this week, and Uber is also bringing along plenty of swag, including the T-shirts above. Furthermore, Uber will soon release the first of three DLC packs for the game that will contain "new content, gameplay adjustments, and more bug fixes." According to Uber's Chandana "Eka" Ekanayake, the studio is "very invested" in the MNC community -- as such, the first DLC pack will be free.
Hopefully we'll hear more details about the DLC at PAX. In the meantime, head past the break for the full list of fixes in the title update.
Continue reading Monday Night Combat patch, free DLC pack incoming

Monday Night Combat patch, free DLC pack incoming originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 30 Aug 2010 16:40:00 EST. The latest muliplayer patch for Uncharted 2 has been rolling out worldwide over the last hour. Simply known as Title Update 1.09, the auto-update should resolve a number of issues -- including the dreaded "super throw" that allowed Plunder mode treasures to be tossed with superhuman vigor. On top of this, Naughty Dog has made some tweaks to the game's backend, allowing the developer to more easily alter cash amounts for individual playlists on the fly.

Speaking of cash, Naughty Dog is also mixing up the monetary rewards in matches. Cash for individual and kill-based medals in Objective modes will be decreased, while medals directly associated with objectives themselves will soon net you larger wads of cash. Here's how it'll break down:

Tip Off - $1,000

Captured - $4,000

That's Embarrassing - $10,000

Protectorate - $2,000

No Cigar - $2,000

Drop It - $1,000

None Shall Pass - $5,000

Expansionist - $5,000

Head past the break for the full update notes.
Continue reading Uncharted 2 Update 1.09 live, so long super throw!

Uncharted 2 Update 1.09 live, so long super throw! originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 28 Jul 2010 14:00:00 EST. And not just any cheaters, but no good, dirty cheaters. According to a post over on Rockstar Games' site, the next title update to Red Dead Redemption will bring with it "measures to counter hacking and cheating" on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Furthermore, a handful of "anti-grief" features will be added to the game's Free Roam online mode. Apparently, cowpokes enduring repeated harassment from other online players will be given the choice to jump to another point (of their choosing) on the map. The culprits doing all the griefing will get branded as such after six consecutive kills, earning them a Most Wanted status and wrangling the game's NPCs against the offender.

Rockstar also promises to continue monitoring online play for those doing bad deeds after said title update goes live "within the next month," but then, isn't the existence of outlaws an inescapable reality of the Old West?
Next Red Dead Redemption title update hunts down cheaters originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 21 Jul 2010 15:20:00 EST. Perhaps in an effort to get the Gears of War franchise back at the front of your mind meat before the third iteration arrives next year, Microsoft is trying a two-pronged effort to lure fans back to GoW 2. The first, Title Update 6, adds a feature called "Social Matches" which allows individual players or parties to drop in or out of ongoing games (yep, even Horde mode matches) without interruption. But you knew that already, right?

The only catch is that you can only use social matching if you own all of the game's map packs which have luckily been slashed to $10 for the lot of them (that's the second prong, by the way). Individual prices have been cut as well. Other balancing and fixes implemented by Title Update 6 (a full list of which is available right here) will be available to all players.

To mark the occasion, players will get triple experience gain from May 27 to June 1, which we guess is technically a third prong. Yep, that's right: We've got a rare promotional trident on our hands.
Gears of War 2 title update adds 'social matches,' DLC price drops originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 26 May 2010 10:55:00 EST. Much like a surreptitious gaggle of programming ninjas, Rockstar recently swooped into the code of your copy of Red Dead Redemption for Xbox 360, and remedied a problem you likely didn't know you had. Apparently, players who attempted to play the game's multiplayer component over system link were having some trouble doing so. In like, the first nine hours the game was available.

Rockstar Tweeted yesterday that a patch had been put into place which fixes the System Link snafu, so if you you were one of the eight people who attempted to use that feature between yesterday morning and yesterday evening, then it's now safe to go give it another shot. Also, here's a great, informative article about the Internet. Yeah, apparently it's this new thing that lets you play games with your friends without having to suffer their actual physical adjacence.
Red Dead Redemption system link problems patched originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 19 May 2010 16:15:00 EST. Epic has posted the Title Update 6 patch notes for Gears of War 2 and the biggest bullet point has to be the ability to join matches in progress. Not only can players now join Horde matches mid-game, the update adds a new Social Xbox Live playlist which lets players join matches in progress and doesn't penalize those who quit early -- but it's only available to those who have all of the DLC. The new Social list also bypasses matchmaking screens and cycles to the next map immediately following the conclusion of the current match, cutting down on the time spent in menus.

The update addresses certain exploits, such as the ability to get out of the map on Subway and Blood Drive, and also improves the pellet grouping on the Gnasher shotgun "to increase hit consistency." Rod Fergusson, senior producer on Gears, says players can look forward to downloading the update in "about a week." We'll let you know when it's live.

[Thanks, Dusty]
The online world of Uncharted 2 is getting one of its biggest updates ever this week. Title Update 1.07 went live yesterday, fixing a few glitches and exploits, while addressing unbalanced spawn points. Later today, the Siege Expansion Pack will be available for purchase, adding "two new maps, six new multiplayer skins, one new co-op game type and 11 new online-only Trophies." You'll be able to buy it on the PlayStation Store for $5.99.

Naughty Dog isn't quite done with the multiplayer festivities, though. In addition to the new DLC and update, all multiplayer participants can enjoy Double Cash bonuses all weekend. That means players -- newcomers and veterans alike -- will be able to rise up the online ranks twice as fast. If you haven't played online recently (or at all), this is certainly one of the best opportunities we can think of to start.
Uncharted 2 celebrates DLC launch with Double Cash weekend originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 22 Apr 2010 08:00:00 EST. The Xbox 360 system update enabling USB storage is live and ready to help you explore the joyous world of non-proprietary storage options. Rules are the same as previously noted: USB devices need to be over 1GB, but can only use 16GB of available storage. Users can use two sticks at once for 32GB, but can switch out units any time, limiting their storage potential by how many USB devices they've got lying around.

The update takes approximately five minutes with a standard cable connection. For those who don't believe in internets, the update will also be available on the branded 16 GB Xbox 360 USB sticks set to debut in May.
PSA: Xbox 360 USB storage update now available originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 06 Apr 2010 08:30:00 EST. It's adorable. Okay, okay, so he did have some new information -- like a launch date. April 6 -- but otherwise things seem to be exactly as we laid them out a week ago: You'll be able to use up to 16GB of two separate USB-based storage devices for a total of 32GB of extra storage.
We know you probably flew into a rage when a recent Title Update denied you a few precious seconds of Metro 2033 play time, but we've been assured by developer 4A Games that it's all for a good cause: To prepare for upcoming DLC. On the game's official Facebook page, a spokesperson confirmed that additional content was in the works, but didn't provide much detail, saying only that multiplayer would be impossible and that "it won't be new SP narrative content, 'missing levels' or anything like that - it's something we're only just starting production on."

Wait, it won't be new single-player story bits or multiplayer, so what does that leave? While novel, we're not sure "Flashlight Hand-Cranking Time Attack" would be a huge step forward.
Black Inc. has announced that Coreplay has released an update for its Xbox Live Arcade shooter, Ion Assault. The free update adds a new survival mode to the game which, unsurprisingly, has players fighting for their lives against waves of increasingly dangerous enemies. Additionally, the update also adds a new control scheme, which allows players to directly aim the ship using the right analog stick. Previously, the right stick rotated the ship left and right. It's not the most fluid control scheme, and was one of our only complaints about the game when it was released last year.

The new controls are available in the trial version as well as the full version, so you may want to give it a spin if the original controls put you off the first time.
Ion Assault update adds new mode, simpler controls originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 11 Feb 2010 13:45:00 EST. Just in time for tomorrow's DLC update, Uncharted 2 is receiving another title update. Patch 1.04 only addresses one issue, but it's a crucial one. Players affected by a rare "error syncing player data" issue will be able to connect online after downloading this patch. Unfortunately, the fix comes at a huge price: all multiplayer stats will be wiped for those affected by this glitch.

"This is going to happen ONLY to the accounts who couldn't connect because of the "error syncing player data" message. Everyone else who has been able to connect and play normally will be entirely unaffected," Naughty Dog's Arne Myer told the community. For those that have yet to see the error message, the patch will come as just a minor step to take before jumping online. However, there are a select few that will lose a great deal of time and effort. "This was not an easy decision for us to make. Over time it became clear to us that there was absolutely no other option remaining to eliminate this issue for all affected."

"If there was an alternative that didn't require rolling back the affected accounts, we would have implemented that in a second." Hopefully, you weren't unlucky enough to be stricken by such an unfortunate situation.
Uncharted 2 title update 1.04 'fixes' multiplayer data syncing issue originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 27 Jan 2010 21:15:00 EST. A new (and free) title update, now available for the PSN-exclusive Comet Crash, introduces new levels, maps, battle settings and an "expert" difficulty mode to the Tower Defense-style game. What sets Comet Crash apart from other titles in the genre is the game's offensive gameplay, allowing players to send waves of their own forces against an ongoing alien threat. Aliens as enemies in a video game? Creativity! According to the PlayStation Blog, the 1.03 update includes:

"Expert" difficulty setting for seasoned Comet Crash players.

4 new Resurgence levels -- one unlocked at the end of each comet during the Campaign.

4 new Battle maps.

Battle timer setting. After the timer runs out, all mobile units generate at 8x the normal rate.

Thorium setting to tweak available resources in Battle mode.

We've got good news all around for fans of Twisted Pixel's 'Splosion Man, as well as advocates for tender red meat. The developer has announced that a title update has fixed laggy online multiplayer sessions and added those unlockable Avatar awards to the highly combustible Xbox Live Arcade platformer. To unlock all four shirts seen above (two for female Avatars and two for males), you must accomplish two feats: break a single pane of glass (easy!) and beat the entire co-op campaign (considerably less easy).

Oh, right, the meat thing. In one of the greatest nonsensical partnerships in the history of civilization, Omaha Steaks has teamed up with Twisted Pixel to give away "hundreds of top-quality steak filets" to 'sploders across the nation. To register for the giveaway, just download and equip a special 'Splosion Man gamerpic, and then play a few online multiplayer matches before November 22. If you win, you get steaks. If you're vegan, you give them to us.
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is set to receive a network optimization patch alongside the game's first DLC at the end of October, according to executive producer Sion Lenton. In an interview with Eurogamer, Lenton said the team at Codemasters has planned for more downloadable content, but has yet to decide what the new content will be.

"It's not a lot of fuss for us to make new content - it's actually quite easy for us to get it out there, with regards to things like levels, game modes, etc," Lenton said. What is being fussed about are the bevy of balance issues players of the military shooter have vocalized on the game's official forum. According to Lenton, the upcoming patch is set to make the game "flow a bit better." The patch comes at a good time, hoping to catch players before they "flow" directly into that other military shooter launching in November.
Cheaters beware! Epic's Rod Fergusson recently popped into the Gears forums to let everyone know that Gears of War 2's fifth Title Update is currently in the works and will hit Xbox Live sometime soon. The new update will not only add some new features to the game -- no more "sticky walk" and you'll be able to see friendly grenade plants in Tac/Com -- but will also put an end to a rather nasty cheating hack that surfaced shortly after TU4. Cheating in Gears -- who'da thunk it?

We'll be sure to let you know when the TU5 is available.

[Thanks, Kyle B]
Epic prepping TU5 for Gears of War 2 originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 09 Oct 2009 16:15:00 EST.
