It was only a couple bucks, but you thought, "I have time. It'll always be there. I'll get to it eventually." But now you can't download <a href="http://joystiq.search.aol.com/search?q=teenage+mutant+ninja+turtles&amp;invocationType=wl-joystiq"><em>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles</em></a> on the Virtual Console and your world is <em>destroyed</em>.<br /><br />Honestly, it was a weird goal to have, but we didn't want to say anything. In each and every region, it seems the turtles have retreated from the Virtual Console. <a href="http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/29216">Nintendo World Report</a> reports <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/konami">Konami</a> cited an "expired license," the same issue that claimed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/23/tmnt-re-shelled-no-longer-available-in-us-after-june-30/"><em>TMNT Turtles in Time Re-Shelled</em></a>.<br /><br />There's no word on whether the turtles will return to the surface any time soon, so we've contacted Konami for more.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/14/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-nes-pulled-from-virtual-console/">Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES) pulled from Virtual Console</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Feb 2012 11:00:00 EST. Major Nelson has released the usual <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2010/02/16/live-activity-for-week-of-feb-8th.aspx">breakdown of Xbox Live activity for last week</a>, February 8-15. On the retail side of things, <em>Modern Warfare 2</em> still dominates with <em>Halo 3</em> maintaining second. The <em>Aliens vs Predator</em> demo takes third place, knocking the <em>Battlefield: Bad Company 2</em> to fifth while <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em> maintains its fourth place position. So, in other words, not very exciting.<br />
<br />
The Xbox Live Arcade activity, however, is much more interesting. One look at the list and it's clear how much power the Deal of the Week can have on sales. In the next most recent activity listing (January 25 - February 1), <em>Marvel vs Capcom</em> rested in the number ten slot while <em>TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled </em>wasn't even in the top 20. Last week, thanks to both games being <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/08/xbox-live-deals-of-the-week-turtles-tiger-and-marvel-vs-capco/">heavily discounted</a>, <em>Marvel vs Capcom</em> jumped to number two while <em>Turtles in Time Re-Shelled</em> shot directly to number one. <em>Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao</em>, discounted as well, also broke back into the top twenty, landing in the thirteenth slot.<br />
<br />
Whether the turtles will keep the top spot remains to be seen. With <em>Battlefield 1943</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/15/xbox-live-deal-of-the-week-battlefield-1943-for-10/">knocked down to $10</a> this week, we're guessing they might be headed back into the sewer.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/17/xbox-live-top-20-the-power-of-a-deal/">Xbox Live Top 20: The power of a deal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Feb 2010 17:16:00 EST. Ubisoft has reported financial results for the first half of its fiscal year, ending September 30, 2009. Coming in at &euro;166 million ($246 million), this year's sales represent a drop of 52% when compared to the first two fiscal quarters of the previous year. Second-quarter sales totaled &euro;83 million ($123 million) -- a drop of 53.1%, though one that Ubisoft states falls within previously issued guidance. <br />
<br />
Standout titles released during the period include the Western-themed first-person shooter, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-juarez-bound-in-blood"><em>Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood</em></a> (which has shipped 'close to 900,000 units'), reptilian brawler <em>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash Up</em> and, "in certain countries," the Pel&eacute;-powered <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/academy-of-champions"><em>Academy of Champions</em></a>.<br />
<br />
Ubisoft points to its fiscal third quarter -- that's October to December on your official Secretive Hunks of Third Echelon Calendar -- as "the most important quarter in Ubisoft's history." Sales are expected to reach &euro;540 million ($801 million) during the period, thanks to <em>Assassin's Creed 2</em>, <em>Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines</em>, <em>James Cameron's Avatar: The Game</em>, <em>Rabbids Go Home</em> and <em>Shaun White Snowboarding World Stage</em>. Ubisoft's also counting on several new casual and self-improvement games for the Wii and DS, which we imagine will help the financialz quite a bit.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/04/ubisoft-reports-first-half-sales-drop-deems-q4-most-important-q/">Ubisoft reports first-half sales drop, deems Q4 most important quarter in company history</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Nov 2009 15:45:00 EST. Once again proving that regular people don't care about what <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/teenagemutantninjaturtlesturtlesintimereshelled">critics have to say</a>, <em>TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled</em> managed to climb to the top of the PSN download chart for September. With <em>Final Fantasy VII</em> and <em>Marvel Vs Capcom 2</em> also maintaining enviable positions, it's clear that people love paying for nostalgia.<br />

We'd also like to point out that this may be the first month <em>Mortal Kombat II</em> is not in the top 10. Did everyone in the world finally buy it?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/07/tmnt-turtles-in-time-tops-september-psn-sales/">TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled tops September PSN sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 Oct 2009 09:02:00 EST. Ubisoft is shelling out another Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game this year with <em>TMNT: Arcade Attack</em> for DS. As the name implies, the game will feature the arcade-style, beat-em-up gameplay most recently seen in <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/turtles-in-time-reshelled">Turtles in Time</a></em>, but this will be an all-new game. Players take on Shredder (who else?), along with his bebop and rock steady rogue's gallery of baddies, with a friend through local wireless -- or let a turtle-controlling AI buddy help out.<br /><br />If the game's title sounds familiar, it's probably because we heard some rumblings about it <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/08/28/rumor-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-set-to-assault-ds-and-dsi/">a week ago</a>. Those attending <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/pax-2009">PAX</a> can play the game in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Party Bus, located at the convention's entrance. Drop us a line in the comments if you happen to try it out. <br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tmnt-arcade-attack/">TMNT: Arcade Attack</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tmnt-arcade-attack/#2254962"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-09-02_09-46-24_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tmnt-arcade-attack/#2254961"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-09-02_09-46-24-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tmnt-arcade-attack/#2254960"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-09-02_09-46-22-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tmnt-arcade-attack/#2254959"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-09-02_09-46-32_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tmnt-arcade-attack/#2254958"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2009-09-02_09-46-30_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/03/tmnt-arcade-attack-assails-ds-this-holiday/">TMNT Arcade Attack assails DS this holiday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Sep 2009 13:33:00 EST. Heroes in a half-shell news now, as we've got a pair of juicy tidbits dealing with the pint-sized martial arts masters. First, we present <a href="http://www.oflc.gov.au/www/cob/find.nsf/5b6ebdff7f5b9a24ca2575ca00062226/025aa8426768986cca25761f005d97c9!OpenDocument">this OFLC certification</a> which says that recently released downloadable <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/turtles-in-time"><em>Turtles in Time: Re-Shelled</em></a> is set to grace the DSi. Sadly, we have nothing else to go on but that, though we must say the prospect of yelling "turtle power!" at our DSi on the subway is an appealing one. <br /><br />Our second item is a little more interesting. <a href="http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=94721">GoNintendo</a> points us toward the latest issue of Nintendo Power, which supposedly reveals <em>TMNT: Arcade Attack</em>, a new title for the DS that utilizes the <em>Turtles in Time</em> formula (see: arcade style beat-em-up). GoNintendo says the game "supports 2-player action, allows you to throw enemies at the screen, and even lets you jump-kick enemies...but in a way that doesn't let you spam the move to victory," though we haven't seen the issue ourselves yet to confirm. If by chance you <em>don't</em> have a TMNT costume lying around (or a pile of action figures), this week's release might not be for you. Even at a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/31/tmnt-turtles-in-time-re-shelled-gets-re-priced-to-800-ms-points/">reduced price</a> of 800<span class="album_title"><img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($10)</span>, <em>Turtles in Time</em> is really only for those with a glint of nostalgia in their eyes (and wallets). Watch the latest episode of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbla-in-brief">XBLA in Brief</a> and see if there's enough turtle power left in the franchise to inspire one more purchase.<br /><br /><a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/00000000-0000-4000-8000-0000584109d2?cid=SLink"><strong>Download the trial version of TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled</strong></a><br /><br />[<a href="itpc://feeds.feedburner.com/x3ftv">iTunes</a>] Subscribe to X3F TV directly in iTunes.<br />[<a href="zune://subscribe/?Xbox%20360%20Fanboy=http%3A%2F%2Ffeeds.feedburner.com%2Fx3ftv">Zune</a>] Subscribe to the X3F TV directly.<br />[<a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/x3ftv">RSS</a>] Add the X3F TV feed to your RSS aggregator and have the show delivered automatically.<br />[<a href="http://podcasts.aolcdn.com/joystiq/podcasts/xblabrief-tmnt2.m4v">M4V</a>] Download the M4V directly.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/05/x3f-tv-xbla-in-brief-tmnt-turtles-in-time-re-shelled/">X3F TV -- XBLA in Brief: TMNT Turtles in Time Re-Shelled</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 05 Aug 2009 15:15:00 EST. <div align="left">Eastman and Laird's "heroes in a half-shell" slash and kick their way back onto Xbox Live Arcade this week in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/turtles-in-time"><em>TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled</em></a>. The game, which Ubisoft <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/31/tmnt-turtles-in-time-re-shelled-gets-re-priced-to-800-ms-points/">dropped the price</a> on in the eleventh hour to 800<span class="album_title"><img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /></span> ($10), is -- for those of you who've been hiding in your shells -- a fully polygonal, HD remake of its classic 1991 arcade namesake. (The Turtles first appeared on XBLA in March of 2007 in the <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/00000000-0000-4000-8000-000058410870?cid=SLink">direct port</a> of their original 1989 coin-op debut.)</div>

Like that game, this one will support local and online multiplayer for up to four players. So, who will you play as? (Please refer to <a href="http://www.ninjaturtles.com/cartoon/theme.htm">this list of their abilities</a> from the 1987 animated series' theme song before choosing.) Fun fact for US gamers: The gang is known as the <em>Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles </em>in the UK and parts of Europe because the glorification of ninjas (those sinister assassins!) was seen as bad for kids -- but <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xd4CzNBzRjc">this</a> wasn't?</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/03/this-wednesday-turtles-in-time-comes-out-of-its-shell-on-xbla/">This Wednesday: Turtles in Time comes out of its shell on XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Aug 2009 17:00:00 EST. Cowabunga! Bodacious! Other <em>TMNT</em> saying! Pardon the hoopla, but Ubisoft has confirmed to Joystiq that next week's XBLA "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/microsoft-will-give-you-10-for-spending-70-on-xbox-live/">Summer of Arcade</a>" release, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/turtles-in-time"><em>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled</em></a>, will debut at <span class="album_title">800<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($10), 400</span><span class="album_title"><img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($5) less than the originally announced 1200</span><span class="album_title"><img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($15) price. <br />
<br />
"We wanted to give something to the loyal <em>TMNT</em> fans in honor of the 25th anniversary," Ubisoft responded when asked about the last-minute change. Then again, dare we really question the generosity of a mega-publisher when it actually want us to shell out <em>less</em> for its games? (Oh, and for those eyeing the </span><span class="album_title">800<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> [$10] <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/microsoft-will-give-you-10-for-spending-70-on-xbox-live/">rebate</a></span> from MS for buying <em>everything </em>in the Summer of Arcade lineup? Well, it just got $5 cheaper to buy "everything.")<span class="album_title"><br />

Man, we have been out of touch with <em>Ninja Turtles</em> for a long time. Who are all these people? We recognize Karai from <em>Tournament Fighters</em> (you may recognize her from the comics or whatever), but we totally had to look up "Nightwatcher," who turns out to be Raphael in a costume. That's really weird.<br /><br />The good news is that even if you don't follow the <em>TMNT </em>cast of thousands, the characters look fun to play. A turtle superhero! A woman with a sword! A <em>robot!</em> Totally great. And if you <span style="font-style: italic;">do</span> know the characters, hey! There they are! As if this Friday wasn't <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/10/second-dev-diary-for-dantes-inferno-is-lustful/">freaky</a> enough, Xbox Live's <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/07/09/2nd-annual-summer-of-arcade-kicks-off-july-22nd.aspx">Major Nelson</a> has alerted us to a schedule swap occurring within the "Summer of Arcade" lineup.<em> 'Splosion Man</em> has taken the July 22nd spot previously held by <em>TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-shelled</em>, which will now release on August 5th. The full Xbox Live Arcade release list -- excluding next week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/monkey-island"><em>Monkey Island</em></a> revamp -- is as follows:<br />

The only difference from this list and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/summer-of-arcade-returns-includes-marvel-vs-capcom-2-tmnt-mo/">previously announced lineup</a> is the absence of <em>Monkey Island Special Edition</em>, which is scheduled for release next week on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/06/discover-the-secret-of-monkey-island-again-on-july-15/">July 15</a>.<br />

You know what the best thing about <em>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time</em> is? Throwing enemies into the screen. Thankfully, that feature is retained in the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/11/tmnt-turtles-in-time-re-shelled-a-timed-xbox-360-exclusive/">XBLA remake</a>. The HD remake is <em>obviously</em> going to be a much prettier version of the original game -- but how good does it really look? The fine folks at <a href="http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/25424">GameVideos</a> have made a stellar comparison video that highlights the sleek new look of this 2.5D remake. Watch all the way to the end to see how even the voice overs have -- for better or for worse -- changed.<br />

Excuse us as we take a deep breath in order to introduce one of XBLA's upcoming titles for the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Summer-of-Arcade/">Summer of Arcade</a>" -- <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/turtles-in-time/">Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-shelled</a></em>. The ridiculously long-titled downloadable is a complete HD remake of the classic Konami arcade brawler, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/11/tmnt-turtles-in-time-re-shelled-a-timed-xbox-360-exclusive/">coming first to the Xbox 360</a> (a PS3 version is in the works).<br />
<br />
Our time with Ubisoft's <em>TMNT</em> update was brief, but only because the game suffers from what all arcade brawlers in downloadable form do -- the levels are extremely short. Coming from an age where difficulty was ramped up to suck as many quarters as it could from a player's pocket, the new version of <em>TMNT</em> allowed us to quickly blaze through two levels of the game without pumping another 25 cent piece into the Xbox 360 console.<br />

<a href="http://kotaku.com/5286695/new-tmnt-game-is-360-timed-exclusive">Kotaku</a> is reporting that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tmnt"><em>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-shelled</em></a> has received a release date of July 22, and will be a timed exclusive for the Xbox 360. Since we're not in the business of just believing everything we read, we decided to contact Ubisoft for some clarification.<br />
<br />
Our rep at Ubisoft indeed did confirm the release date and the timed exclusivity on Xbox Live Arcade, which is likely to tick off a few PS3 owners out there. We'd suggest copious amounts of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/infamous"><em>Infamous</em></a> and, if you're lucky enough, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/11/team-joystiq-plays-the-uncharted-2-multiplayer-beta/"><em>Uncharted 2 </em>beta</a> to get you through these tough times.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/11/tmnt-turtles-in-time-re-shelled-a-timed-xbox-360-exclusive/">TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-shelled a timed Xbox 360 exclusive</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Jun 2009 23:45:00 EST. Rest assured, plummeting <em>Turtles</em> do land. More specifically: <em>TMNT: Smash Up</em> will land on September 22, Ubisoft <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/joystiq-live-from-ubisofts-e3-2009-keynote/">announced</a> during its E3 press conference today. A new trailer of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/06/first-tmnt-smash-up-trailer-reminds-us-of-something/"><em>Brawl</em>-made brawler</a> was also on display, featuring our first look at Shredder (eaten by a giant crocodile) and April (now a katana-wielding ninja). Cowabunga?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/shell-out-for-tmnt-smash-up-on-september-22/">Shell out for TMNT: Smash Up on September 22</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Jun 2009 22:45:00 EST. The "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/summer-of-arcade">Summer of Arcade</a>" returns this year to bring you more of the XBLA games that'll keep you out of that nasty cancer-causing sun. The titles slated are:<br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splosion-man"><em>'Splosion Man</em></a></li>
    <li><a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/tag/shadow-complex"><em>Shadow Complex</em></a></li>

    <li><a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/tag/monkey-island"><em>Monkey Island Special Edition</em></a></li>
    <li><a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/tag/trials-hd"><em>Trials HD</em></a></li>
</ul>
Of course, you'd like to know when the festivities kick off. And we'd love to tell you, but there's currently "nothing to announce" about dates. So sad.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/summer-of-arcade-returns-includes-marvel-vs-capcom-2-tmnt-mo/">Summer of Arcade returns; includes Marvel vs. Capcom 2, TMNT, Monkey Island</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Jun 2009 16:45:00 EST. If recent news of an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/01/turtles-in-time-remake-in-development-for-xbla-possibly-psn-and-wiiware/">upcoming remake</a> of arcade classic <em>Turtles in Time</em> wasn't enough to make you scream Cowabunga then, well ... congratulations, you're dead inside. For everyone else, some footage of the game has surfaced and, provided you can keep your breakfast down after the video's shaky-cam style, should give you an early taste of just what to expect.<br /><br /><em>Turtles in Time</em> marks the second Konami oldie lined up for a makeover in as many months, following April's reveal of a new <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/13/vandal-hearts-returns-on-psn-and-xbla/">Vandal Hearts</a></em> for PSN and XBLA. While some of us would have much preferred a remake of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles_(NES_game)">NES original</a> <em>TMNT</em>, given that game's crushing difficulty we doubt many gamers today would have survived that particular ride aboard the Technodrome's wayback machine. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamervision.com/gamer/coop/news/article/first_footage_of_turtles_in_time_remake">Gamervision</a>; thanks, Fernando]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/04/cam-footage-of-tmnt-turtles-in-time-remake-spotted/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Cam footage of TMNT: Turtles in Time remake spotted</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/04/cam-footage-of-tmnt-turtles-in-time-remake-spotted/">Cam footage of TMNT: Turtles in Time remake spotted</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 May 2009 10:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.tmnt25.com/road_trip.html">25th Anniversary Tour</a> for <em>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles</em> is traveling across the country right now, and reports are rolling in from those lucky enough to stop by one of the locations that a remake of <em>Turtles in Time</em> is currently in development. <br />
<br />
The Alpha build of the game is being demoed on the Xbox 360 throughout the tour, but we're getting reports it could possibly makes its way to PSN and WiiWare as well, though there is no confirmation of that right now. One of our tipsters pointed us to the Twitter account for <a href="http://twitter.com/Hyperfludd">Hyperfludd</a> (who stopped by and snagged some pics), but we've also found <a href="http://ninja-pizza.blogspot.com/2009/05/new-turtles-in-time-game.html">other sources</a> confirming this game's existence. <br />
<br />
<em>Turtles in Time</em> is arguably the best <em>Turtles </em>game ever, so remaking it is definitely a smart idea. Kind of like putting peanut butter on pizza.<br />

<br />Though it's been out in the open for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/11/nintendo-power-brawl-team-ninja-staff-working-on-new-tmnt-figh/">some time</a>, Ubisoft today officially confirmed development was underway on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/24/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-heroes-in-a-magazine-preview/"><em>TMNT: Smash Up</em></a>. There are only two screens to date, featuring all four turtles doing their green-skinned, katana-wielding<em> thang</em>, but they look really promising (and <em>possibly </em>hint at a 2.5D game?).<br /><br />The combination of '80s nostalgia (fun fact that we refuse to be embarrassed about: we had <em>Turtles</em> wallpaper right up until we moved out of home at 18) and the involvement of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/smash-bros-brawl"><em>Super Smash Bros. Brawl</em></a> developer Game Arts will ensure this game won't escape our attention easily. In "shell-ebration" (it says here in the press release) of the 25th anniversary of the world's most fearsome fighting team, the <em>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles</em>, Ubisoft has announced a new four-player fighting game that is "not tied to a TMNT movie, television show or comic book." Instead, as indicated by the incredibly subtle subtitle, <a href="http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2009/01/24/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-heroes-in-a-magazine-preview/"><em>TMNT: Smash Up</em></a> will share ties with Nintendo's absurdly popular <em>Super Smash Bros. Brawl</em>. In fact, if the staff of Game Arts -- developer of both games -- dress formally at work, the ties shared will be quite literal.<br /><br />Sensing that a few screenshots depicting the titular turtles (including the one who does machines and the one who is a party dude) may not satiate everybody, Ubisoft encourages interested parties to check out the January issue of <em>Nintendo Power</em> for more information. Meanwhile, look for <em>TMNT: Smash Up</em> to arrive during Fall 2009 and cause fighting purists to complain about "turtling" in a whole new way.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tmnt-smash-up-wii/">TMNT: Smash Up (Wii)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tmnt-smash-up-wii/#2129995"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/tmntsmashup_screenshot2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tmnt-smash-up-wii/#2129994"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/tmntsmashup_screenshot1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tmnt-smash-up-wii/#2129993"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/tmntsmashup_box_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tmnt-smash-up-wii/#1317787"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/01/tmnt_smash_up_wii_screenshot_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tmnt-smash-up-wii/#1317786"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/01/tmnt_smash_up_wii_screenshot_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/26/and-theyre-green-tmnt-smash-up-announced-for-wii/">And they're green! As reported <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/24/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-heroes-in-a-magazine-preview/">yesterday</a>, the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/11/nintendo-power-brawl-team-ninja-staff-working-on-new-tmnt-figh/"><em>TMNT: Smash Up</em></a> for the Wii seems to borrow liberally from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/23/nintendo-makes-brawl-world-less-colorful/"><em>Super Smash Bros.</em></a> We're not going to argue about the "fairness" of lifting from other games to make your design, because appropriating other people's ideas and resynthesizing them is basically the essence of art. And every fighting game since <em>Street Fighter II</em> has cribbed from Capcom's masterpiece anyway. Basically, we <em>wouldn't</em> have a fighting genre if not for copying.<br /><br />But on to <em>Smash Bros.</em> and the Turtles. Do you think the <em>Smash Bros.</em> gameplay is strong enough to work without Nintendo characters? Are there any particular ideas involved in the bizarre fighting series that more fighting games could stand to inherit? And is it going to become its own branch of the fighting game genre?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/26/wii-warm-up-smashed-gameplay/">Wii Warm Up: Smashed Gameplay</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 26 Jan 2009 08:00:00 EST. We're calling shotgun on Krang.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/24/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-heroes-in-a-magazine-preview/">Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Heroes in a Magazine Preview</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 24 Jan 2009 14:30:00 EST. As Scientology teaches us, benevolent aliens are some day going to land on planet Earth and deliver unto us the Usagi Yujimbo Wii game that we all deserve. Until that glorious day, it looks like we'll be able to make due with a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.5 dimensional fighter in development at Ubisoft.<br /><br />Sure, it's a licensed game (though not based on any specific movie or show) but it's also got an impressive pedigree, with Nintendo Power reporting a dev team that includes <em>Smash Bros. <br />Even as a kid (or perhaps <span style="font-style: italic;">especially</span> as a kid), artist David Gibbons had a fascination for all things glow-in-the-dark. Really, though, what's there to <span style="font-style: italic;">not </span>like about glow-in-the-dark junk? <br /><br />David covered his bedroom walls with every glow-in-the-dark decoration he could find -- posters, stickers, and stars. He even wore glow-in-the-dark <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pajamas">pajamas</a> and braces! While we never went that far, we happen to have a glow-in-the-dark rosary hanging off our car's rearview mirror (It's a Filipino thing! Also, it makes it easier for us to pick out our car in the mall parking lot at night.).<br /><br />Anyway, David used his childhood glow-in-the-dark obsession as inspiration to create the art piece we've featured a today, an illustration depicting all of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/christmas">Christmas</a> toys he wished for as a kid while laying awake at night, gazing at all their glow-in-the-dark incarnations blue-tacked to his walls and ceiling.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/03/the-ds-life-phosphorescence/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The DS Life: Phosphorescence</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/03/the-ds-life-phosphorescence/">The DS Life: Phosphorescence</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Dec 2008 23:59:00 EST. It's finally happening. When Hudson announced Turbografx-16 support on the Virtual Console, we thought "Oh, great, maybe we'll be able to get <em>Dracula X!</em>" Then when they revealed that CD-ROM titles would start coming out, we got <em>really</em> excited about being one step closer to <em>Dracula X.</em> Next month in Japan, <em>Akumajou Dracula X: Chi no Rondo</em> will be released on the Virtual Console for 800 points. As if Hudson hadn't already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/28/wiiware-now-worthwhile-hudson-reveals-alien-crush-sequel-more/"><em>won</em></a> at being awesome today.<br /><br />Other than the <em>amazing Dracula X</em>, there's actually a lot of really great stuff coming out in April. It has actually renewed our faith in the Virtual Console, which is why we're starting to think we're being fooled by a <em>tragic</em> April Fool's Day joke on Nintendo's part. <em>Metal Slug</em> and <em>The Legend of Valkyrie</em> are standouts, as is the incredibly vintage RPG <em><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR91pfqrqLI">Bokosuka Wars</a>, </em>if only because it reminds us of <a href="http://www.geekonstun.com/mt/archives/the_geek_on_stun_2005_video_game_tshirt_awards_010306.html">this shirt</a><em>.</em> <br /><br />Famicom: <br />

<br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/promotionalconsideration">Promotional Consideration</a> is a weekly feature about the Nintendo DS advertisements you usually flip past, change the channel on, or just tune out.<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters</span> for the Genesis was not a game I actually purchased, as our family was one of little means, and I knew better than to let money go to waste. It was loaned to me by a "friend" in exchange for <span style="font-style: italic;">The Ren &amp; Stimpy Show: Stimpy's Invention</span>, a deal which my pal falsely assured me I was getting the better end of.<br /><br />The trade wasn't meant to be permanent -- that was explicitly stated in the contract -- but my business associate suddenly moved away, <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/spanish-for-everyone">Spanish For Everyone</a>-style. Except in my case, I didn't have a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/07/they-dont-call-me-gina-vasquez-for-nothing/">sultry Spanish aunt</a> offering to teach me "many things." Also, I learned nothing from the experience.<br /><br />But before we reminisce about terrible games and the bad decisions I've made in my life, let's discuss this week's Promotional Consideration topic: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Fruit Snacks.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/27/promotional-consideration-sewer-snacks/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Promotional Consideration: Sewer snacks</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/27/promotional-consideration-sewer-snacks/">Promotional Consideration: Sewer snacks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 27 Jan 2008 17:00:00 EST. Three games that were assumed to be headed for the Virtual Console have disappeared from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ESRB/">ESRB</a>'s ratings list. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/20/zombies-and-turtles-found-on-esrb/"><em>Zombies Ate My Neighbors</em></a>, <em>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Arcade Game, </em>and <em>Duck Hunt</em> are no longer listed for the Wii on the rating organization's website.<br /><br />The most obvious interpretation is that these games are no longer planned for release on the Wii. But why would the ESRB remove the ratings? Even if Nintendo (or Konami) decided that they were <em>definitely not going to release the game, ever,</em> the content rating would still be valid. And we find it very hard to believe that <em>Duck Hunt</em>, a game that is pretty much synonymous with Nintendo nostalgia, has been permanently banished from the VC.<br /><br /> [Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=25990">GoNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/the-esrb-ate-my-vc-games/">The ESRB Ate My VC games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Sep 2007 09:45:00 EST. This is the top half of a magazine ad for the Super Nintendo version of <em>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time. </em>Check out <a href="http://flickr.com/photos/terrible2z/412999882/">t0kka's Flickr account</a> for the rest of the print, with such awesome text as this: "Check it out, dudes. Arcade screenage on the left, Super NES screenage on the right. They're like, turtley the same! Aren't those studs at Konami awesome!" <div align="left">The Internet has made it easy to find cheats for games, but we miss the tips pages from game magazines, when the discovery of a new code could inspire you to go back to an old game. These codes aren't exactly new, but oldness is the essence of the Virtual Console! We're bringing back the classic codes every week on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/vcadvantage">The VC Advantage</a>.<br /><br />Everyone loves ninja, except for <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage_Mutant_Hero_Turtles#.22Hero.22_Turtles">1980's Europe</a>. It's hard not to be taken with their style of dress, their pre-Bond gadgetry and, most of all, their silent ruthlessness. But gamers have grown up with a different kind of ninja: the kind who walks around a (usually futuristic) city in broad daylight wearing a dark mask and uniform, displaying blatant disregard for stealth in his battle against giant robots or ghosts or <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/28/13-minute-ninja-gaiden-speedrun-we-are-all-inadequate/">freaking birds</a>.</em><br /><br /></div>
Much like real-life ninja used anonymity and darkness to flout <em>bushido</em>, we enjoy using codes to violate the established laws of our favorite ninja games. This week's VCA features a selection of codes from the Virtual Console's already ninja-rich library.<br />
<div align="left"><br /><strong><em>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles </em>(NES)</strong>:<br /><em>Share Boomerangs between turtles: </em>It takes some serious <em>Turtles</em> devotion or NES nostalgia to convince yourself to play this game for more than five minutes, so we think it's a good idea to give you a little help. Short of a <em>Make the Game Stop</em> code that involves turning off your system, there's not <em>too </em>much that can be done, but there is at least a glitch that allows you to use the same set of boomerangs with multiple turtles. It's easy, too: just throw the boomerangs, switch turtles, and catch them.<br /><br /><em><strong>Ninja Spirit</strong></em><strong> (TG16): </strong><br /><em>Level Select:</em> This is only appropriate for appreciating each level of the sumptuous <em>Ninja Spirit</em> as an individual work of art. <em>We'll know</em> if you use the level select code to fast-track through the game. We'll know and we'll tell IREM. And they'll cry. Press II, I, II, II, I, II, hold Select and press Run to access the level select menu.<br /><br /><strong><em>Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master </em>(GEN): </strong><br /><em>Unlimited Shurikens:</em> This code, also seen in <em>Revenge of Shinobi,</em> is one of the most iconic and satisfying cheats in any game, because it's <em>so </em>simple to input and remember, and it is immediately visually recognizable. In the options menu, if you set the number of shuriken to 00 and leave the cursor there, after a few seconds the "00" will morph into the symbol for infinity. Neat! <br /><br />[Codes via <a href="http://www.gamefaqs.com/">GameFAQs</a>]</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/22/the-vc-advantage-totally-sweet/">The VC Advantage: Totally sweet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 Aug 2007 18:45:00 EST. Sure we get a couple of CG movies that should look gorgeous in 1080p, but considering they are the new revisioning of the <em>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles</em> and the God awful <em>Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within</em>, it's kind of a bust. Here's the full list:<br />
<ul>
    <li><em>TMNT  </em></li>
    <li><em>Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within  <br /></em></li>
    <li><em>Disturbia  <br /></em></li>
    <li><em>Arlington Road <br /></em></li>
    <li><em>Are We Done Yet?</em></li>
</ul>
<em>Disturbia </em>and <em>Arlington Road</em> were suppose to be pretty good, but <em>Are We Done Yet?</em> is only interesting as a side note to Ice Cube's increasingly pathetic career. So not that amazing of a release list this week, but to make up for it -- we have a tasty little rumor via our friends at <a href="http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=385">Blu-ray.com</a>. Sony Europe has released an 'unofficial' calender of upcoming Blu-ray titles and they have both <em>Kill Bill </em>movies listed as a September 2nd releases with <em>Pulp Fiction</em> coming the next day. This is still in Rumorville for now, with no official confirmation of a US release, but what a sweet rumor it is.<br /><br />"Who's Zed?"<br />"Zed's dead, baby."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/06/blu-ray-movie-releases-for-the-week-of-august-6th-bonus-rumor/">Blu-ray movie releases for the week of August 6th + bonus rumor</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Aug 2007 16:15:00 EST. Well, look no further than Circuit City and the Sunday newspaper ads. This week, Circuit City is slashing $20 off select games including titles like <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=175812&amp;cm_keycode=85">TMNT</a></em> ($29.99), <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=173406&amp;cm_keycode=85">GRAW 2</a></em> ($39.99), <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=176554&amp;cm_keycode=85">Spider-Man 3</a></em> ($39.99) and<em> <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=162060&amp;cm_keycode=85">Call of Duty 3</a></em> ($39.99). Also, since both the Red and Black Edition Player Packs will be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/30/rainbow-six-vegas-red-and-black-edition-now-free/">free downloads</a>, why not pick up <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=163176&amp;cm_keycode=85">Rainbow Six Vegas</a></em> for the low, low price of $39.99 too? You can't pass that up. Maybe new releases are more up your alley, then we advise picking up a free $10 gift card with a <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=180917&amp;cm_keycode=85">Transformers: The Game</a></em> purchase. And if you're in the market for <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=179952&amp;cm_keycode=85">Shadowrun</a></em>, purchase it for $37.99 on Windows Vista and Circuit City will throw in a <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-for-Windows-882224248495/sem/rpsm/oid/172234/catOid/-16483/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do">wireless receiver</a> for free!<br /><br />All deals are available online or in-store, so save a few bucks and pick up some new games to add to your video game library this week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/01/20-discounts-on-r6-vegas-graw-2-and-more/">$20 discounts on R6 Vegas, GRAW 2 and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 01 Jul 2007 10:00:00 EST. We've put more hours into <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/konami">Konami's</a> beat'em up than you can shake a bo staff at, so it's not the actual game that we have problems with.<br />
<br />
No, it's just outright jealousy over the XBLA port of the arcade version. While we're stuck with 8-bit graphics and support for only two players, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/360">360's</a> turtle fans have the original cut scenes, arcade graphics, and online co-op for up to four players! Inconceivable! To add insult to injury, we might have to shell out 600 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wiipoints">Wii points</a> for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nes">NES</a> game instead of the usual 500 because of licensing issues. If that'll be the case, we would actually be spending more than what 360 gamers are paying!<br />
<br />
We can at least find solace in the NES version's extended levels, extra stages, and Pizza Hut advertising. Also, <em>TMNT II</em> wasn't the only new ninja release spotted on the ESRB's Virtual Console catalog. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ninjagaiden"><em>Ninja Gaiden</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tecmo">Tecmo's</a> 1989 platformer, will also be stabbing its way onto the Wii. Let's see the Xbox try to top us with a game like that! Oh wait...<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/03/turtle-power-envy/">Turtle power envy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 May 2007 16:00:00 EST. The stealthy assasins carry out their orders so efficiently and silently, most people aren't even aware of a ninja's presence until they see their own blood on the wall sprayed from an expert slash across their necks.<br />
<br />
Modojo has a lengthy feature tracking portable appearances by ninjas like Shinobi and Goemon, following their shuriken-throwing adventures from the Game Boy all the way up to the Nintendo DS. Our favorite game from the bunch is <em>Ninja Five-O</em>, a <em>Bionic Commando</em>-esque side scroller that was released for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/gba">GBA</a>. Leading to the obvious conclusion: Ubisoft needs to somehow combine the gritty realism of the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tomclancy">Tom Clancy</a> </em>franchise with the anthropomorphic antics of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tmnt"><em>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles</em></a>. Politically charged yet irresistibly adorable properties like <em>Tom Clancy's Splinter Shell</em> and <em>Tom Clancy</em>'s <em>The War on Terrapins</em> are sure to tap into hitherto <em>untapped</em> fountains of marketability and financial prosperity. Not that Ubisoft is currently in dire need of money, mind you. Gamasutra's detailing of L'Ubi's most recent <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=13689">financial report</a> suggests that the publisher is already exceeding analyst expectations by exchanging <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/22/tmnt-the-new-king-kong-of-easy-achievement-points/">one type of green</a> for another.<br /><br />The company's fourth quarter sales saw an increase of 37% to $267.5 million, largely instigated by the one million unit success of <em>Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2</em> on Xbox 360, as well as the <em>TMNT</em> film-based game which dragged in 1.1 million units in its eight platform-wide net. Sales for the full 2006/2007 fiscal year stand at $923.4 million following a jump of 24.4%, with earlier titles such as <em>Red Steel</em>, <em>Rayman: Raving Rabbids</em>, <em>Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas</em> and <em>Petz </em>being key contributors.<br /><br />Ubisoft expects profitability to increase further in the coming year by supporting new-gen consoles and expanding their presence in "the casual market on the Wii and Nintendo DS systems." Oh! We've yet to add casual games into our bubbling cauldron of cross-franchise success! So, that'll be <em>Tom Clancy's <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krang">Krang</a> Age</em>, then?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/27/ubisoft-fourth-quarter-sales-pushed-up-by-warfighters-turtles/">Ubisoft fourth quarter sales pushed up by warfighters, turtles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Apr 2007 16:04:00 EST.
