The publisher is throwing everything at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gamescom-2012">Gamescom</a> this year, an event that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/21/gamescom-2011-welcomes-275-000-attendees/">saw 275,000 attendees</a> in 2011.<br /><br /><em>Assassin's Creed 3</em> and its PS Vita spinoff, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/assassins-creed-3-liberation"><em>Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation</em></a>, will both be on hand at Ubisoft's booth. They'll be joined by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/far-cry-3"><em>Far Cry 3</em></a>, <em>Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Online</em> and <em>Shootmania</em>. Ubisoft is also going to truck out all of its Wii U games: <em>Zombi U</em>, <em>Rayman Legends</em>, <em>Rabbids Land</em>, <em>Sports Connection</em> and <em>Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2013</em>. And if you decide to skip that last game, don't sweat it - you'll get all the exercise you need running around the Koelnmesse.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/26/ubisoft-bringing-ac3-liberation-far-cry-3-zombi-u-and-more-to/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ubisoft bringing AC3, Liberation, Far Cry 3, Zombi U and more to Gamescom</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/26/ubisoft-bringing-ac3-liberation-far-cry-3-zombi-u-and-more-to/">Ubisoft bringing AC3, Liberation, Far Cry 3, Zombi U and more to Gamescom</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Jul 2012 05:00:00 EST. It's also important to note that deals like this don't always pan out (we're looking at you, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/26/neil-burger-hits-restart-on-the-uncharted-film/">Uncharted</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/24/bioshock-film-adaptation-loses-director-juan-carlos-fresnadillo/">BioShock</a> films). And even if the film rights were optioned by a film studio, there's then no guarantee that a script would be written or a film made. What we're trying to say is: take all of this with a Bonneville Salt Flats-sized grain of ... well, <em>you know</em>.<br /><br />[Pictured: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/splinter-cell-blacklist"><em>Splinter Cell: Blacklist</em></a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/15/report-ubisoft-in-talks-with-warner-bros-paramount-on-splinte/">Report: Ubisoft in talks with Warner Bros., Paramount on Splinter Cell movie deal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Jun 2012 14:30:00 EST. As I'm sitting down in Ubisoft's San Francisco office for a two hour presentation on the recently announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/rainbow-6-patriots"><em>Rainbow 6: Patriots</em></a>, there's one thought running through my mind before it even starts:<br />
<br />
What the hell is Ubisoft thinking?<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rainbow-6-patriots-11-28-11/">Rainbow 6: Patriots (11/28/11)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rainbow-6-patriots-11-28-11/#4639561"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/r6pmpca09sandtabletacticalplanning_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rainbow-6-patriots-11-28-11/#4639562"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/r6prender02r6team_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rainbow-6-patriots-11-28-11/#4639563"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/r6pspca01ceilingbreach_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rainbow-6-patriots-11-28-11/#4639564"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/r6psps04hdrappelfromtopofbrooklynbridge_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rainbow-6-patriots-11-28-11/#4639565"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/r6psps05hdteamechomovinginbrooklynbridge_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/28/the-darker-gray-of-rainbow-6-patriots/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The darker gray of Rainbow 6: Patriots</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/28/the-darker-gray-of-rainbow-6-patriots/">The darker gray of Rainbow 6: Patriots</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Nov 2011 15:10:00 EST. <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/">Steam's Autumn Sale</a> continues today, with some spectacular sales on <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/limbo">Limbo</a> </em>($2.49), <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/civilization-v"><em>Civilization 5 </em></a>($10.19), the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/overlord-2/">Overlord</a> </em>complete pack ($4.99) and more. <a href="http://kotaku.com/5814871/source-new-rainbow-6-might-be-the-most-innovative-shooter-in-years">Kotaku</a> reports that it recently checked out an early video demonstration for an upcoming entry in Ubisoft's long-dormant tactical shooter franchise, <em>Rainbow Six</em> -- from which the image above was supposedly culled. According to the report, the game tasks the elite unit with stopping the threat of a homegrown terrorist cell from visiting destruction upon New York City; a goal which will present the player with a multitude of frequent moral dilemmas.<br />
<br />
One sequence of the demo apparently puts players in the shoes of a kidnapping victim who must hold down a trigger to keep an explosive vest from detonating. Later in the demo, the player shoots his way to the victim (either killing or incapacitating his enemies), and then must decide between risking the lives of everyone else on the bridge, or tossing the poor sod into the river below. It sounds interesting -- but according to Kotaku, Ubisoft is still on the fence about whether these moral decisions will make it into the final cut of the game.<br />

We've contacted Ubisoft about the report, and will keep our eyes peeled for the reported video. We're also going to go play a few rounds of Terrorist Hunt, because man, we've got <em>the itch</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/23/report-ubisofts-next-rainbow-six-to-focus-on-moral-dilemmas/">Report: Ubisoft's next Rainbow Six to focus on moral dilemmas</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Jun 2011 17:35:00 EST. Aspiring future soldiers will get their first taste of playing as "F-16s on legs" in Ubisoft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ghost-recon-future-soldier"><em>Ghost Recon: Future Soldier</em></a> when the game's beta rolls out in January. "
<meta charset="utf-8" />
We know you have been asking about the beta," the publisher <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/GhostRecon/status/82933866804948992">wrote in a tweet</a> Monday, before saying, "
<meta charset="utf-8" />
We're excited to announce that the MP beta will be launching in January 2012."<br />
<br />
Ubisoft had <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/12/ghost-recon-future-soldier-preview/">previously said</a> a beta would launch this summer, but any hope of that happening was pretty much dashed when the game itself <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/12/ghost-recon-future-soldier-pushed-to-q1-2012/">was delayed into 2012</a> aka<em> the future</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/20/ghost-recon-future-soldier-beta-deploys-january-2012/">Ghost Recon: Future Soldier beta deploys January 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Jun 2011 21:30:00 EST. If you're looking to spend your long weekend in a quiet, relaxing way, you could do worse than to check out <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/nightsky">NightSky</a></em>, the meditative rolling-ball platformer by <em>Knytt</em> creator Nifflas. And now's a good day for it, because Steam has reduced the price to five bucks through 1PM tomorrow. <br />

If you're in the mood for less tranquility and more Tom Clancity, the ongoing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ubisoft,steam">Ubisoft sale</a> continues today, with 66% <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/sale/ubisoft_week">discounts</a> on pretty much every Tom Clancy game ever, including various <em>Splinter Cells, Ghost Recons, Rainbow Sixes</em>, and <em>HAWX</em> ... es.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/29/steam-discounts-nightsky-tom-clancy-games/">Steam discounts NightSky, Tom Clancy games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 29 May 2011 22:30:00 EST. Originally <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/31/splinter-cell-and-prince-of-persia-hd-trilogies-coming-march-22/">due to be released today</a> on both Blu-ray disc and PSN, the HD-ified <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splinter-cell-trilogy-hd-collection"><em>Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy</em></a> has slipped off the radar and into the shadows. <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/115/1157109p1.html">IGN</a> reports that it'll wait there, for undisclosed reasons, until resurfacing on June 21. It's not alone -- the retail release of the <em>Prince of Persia HD </em>trilogy, also expected today, has been pushed to April 19.<br />
<br />
Both trilogies will retail for $40 when they finally arrive on Blu-ray. The three high-res <em>Prince of Persia</em> games are already available via PSN at $15 a pop.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/23/splinter-cell-classic-trilogy-sneaks-to-june-21-prince-of-persi/">Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy sneaks to June 21, Prince of Persia HD on Blu-ray also delayed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Mar 2011 15:20:00 EST. An iOS version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=rainbow+six&amp;invocationType=wl-joystiq"><em>Rainbow Six</em></a> from Gameloft launched on the App store today, the first iOS entry in the series ever: <em>Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard</em>. The game is available to download for $6.99 and has a single-player campaign of 11 missions, online co-op support for up to three players, and a ten-player versus mode.<br />

It seems <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/splinter-cell">Sam Fisher</a> has hacked into Xbox Live, reducing prices on a large selection of Tom Clancy-related DLC for Gold members. What's that? You say Sam Fisher isn't a real person? This is just the <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2011/02/21/deal-of-the-week-experience-tom-clancy.aspx">Deal of the Week</a>? It feels so weird to be telling you this, but Ubisoft has made an advergame based on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/hawx-2"><em>Tom Clancy's HAWX 2</em></a> and ... <em>it's kinda good</em>! It's a pretty basic shmup with an 8-bit theme, though it's a bit more forgiving than most traditional games in the genre. (Your plane can actually take more than one hit before going down.)<br />
<br />
Everything else is pretty much what you'd expect: a rad soundtrack; several weapon types; and an endless supply of enemies to blast into oblivion. Don't believe us? Hit up <a href="http://hawxgame.uk.ubi.com/hawx2-mini-game.php">the link</a> and check it out.<br />

While it pains us to report that our hopes for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/20/oflc-rating-outs-ghost-recon-predator/">a Predator-infused <em>Ghost Recon</em> game</a> have gone down the drain, it's not <em>all</em> bad: the ESRB has tossed up a classification for <em>Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Predator</em>. It's apparently "an action game/third-person shooter" for the PSP, in which "players engage in combat missions as part of an elite military unit." The listing also mentions a variety of modern weapons and promises "realistic" gunfights. <br />
<br />
Perhaps the most interesting thing about this story is the disparity between the two listings -- the initial OFLC classification pegged the game for multiple platforms (as is the case with next year's <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/ghost-recon-future-soldier">Ghost Recon: Future Soldier</a></em>), while the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/esrb">ESRB</a> listing places the game solely on PSP. We've contacted Ubisoft for clarification and will be sure to relay whatever we hear back.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/19/esrb-tom-clancys-ghost-recon-predator-headed-to-psp/">ESRB: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Predator headed to PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 Jul 2010 11:25:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Ubisoft has revealed new information about <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/tom-clancys-hawx-2"><em>Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2</em></a>, which Joystiq got to see in an early build last week at a pre-E3 event. The sequel to the flight combat simulator is expanding its purview to include "all aspects of aerial combat," including takeoffs and landings, recon missions in UAVs, air-to-air refueling and dogfighting missions, and even laser-guiding bombs down to targets.<br />
<br />
The game will use satellite imagery to create realistic locations from all over the world, including Moscow, the Arctic Circle and a desert area we got to see in the Persian Gulf. Ubisoft also told Joystiq that the game would offer four-player co-op throughout the whole campaign, as well as "full adversarial multiplayer" with up to eight players involved.<br />
<br />
It was also hinted that <em>H.A.W.X. 2</em> will tie in some of Ubisoft's other Tom Clancy properties, though we weren't yet told how. We'll learn more when we get to play the game (which is due out on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and PC this fall) in a hands-on at E3.</div>

Ubisoft just announced <em>HAWX 2,</em> presumably one of the two <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/28/two-more-tom-clancy-games-in-the-works-at-ubisoft/">new Tom Clancy games</a> mentioned by an Ubisoft producer late last month. <em>HAWX 2</em>, in development at Ubisoft Bucharest, gives players the chance to "become elite aerial soldiers in control of the world's most technologically advanced aircraft." This is, oddly enough, the second aerial combat game to be announced today, though the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/05/mysims-sky-heroes-flying-to-ds-wii-xbox-360-and-ps3-this-fall/">other one</a> is <em>slightly</em> different in tone.<br />
<br />
It's currently scheduled for a fall release on Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and Wii. Ubisoft released one really exciting piece of artwork, which you can examine in more detail in our gallery. <br />

In a recent interview with <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&amp;sl=nl&amp;u=http://control-online.nl/gamesindustrie/2010/04/28/nederlander-waakt-over-tom-clancy-ip/&amp;ei=da7YS53fK4H_8AbDvqHDBQ&amp;sa=X&amp;oi=translate&amp;ct=result&amp;resnum=1&amp;ved=0CAkQ7gEwAA&amp;prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://control-online.nl/gamesindustrie/2010/04/28/nederlander-waakt-over-tom-clancy-ip/%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26hs%3D48u%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official">Dutch gaming news site Control Online</a> (that is to say, the site itself is Dutch -- it doesn't exclusively cover the booming Dutch video game industry), Ubisoft's Tom Clancy brand manager Michel Verheijdt explained "at this moment I'm working on two <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tom-clancy">Tom Clancy</a> games which have just gone in development." He remained tight lipped about the identities of the two franchises, warning that if he exposes any more info, he'll "have to send Sam Fisher after you."<br />
<br />
Fortunately, Joystiq was able to get the scoop on these two games, and you'll <em>never</em> believe what they are. For the first time in ... hold on a second. Someone's at the door. Hello? Who are you, and -- hey, why are you grabbing our neck? This doesn't seem very safe, begoggled, gruff-voiced stranger.<br />

As enlightened parents of the 10s, we make an attempt to expose our many children to violence at every opportunity as part of a revolutionary new parenting style we call "Not Paying Very Close Attention." Not all parents are as liberated as us though, so it's nice to know that their children too can enjoy this week's big release <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splinter-cell-conviction">Splinter Cell: Conviction</a> </em>with IGN's <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/108/1082956p1.html">Splinter Cell Activity Book</a>.<br />
<br />
We're sure your mild-mannered children will just adore the "Night Vision Crossword Puzzle" and "SpyLibs" -- just warn them not to get so absorbed in them that they accidentally bump into our kids. It's ... it's hard for us to predict how they'll react.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/12/splinter-cell-activity-book-sees-sam-through-rose-colored-goggle/">Splinter Cell Activity Book sees Sam through rose-colored goggles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Apr 2010 18:45:00 EST. <em><font size="1">Click to enlarge</font></em></div>
By now you've likely seen the impressive live-action teaser trailer through which Ubisoft announced its latest <em>Ghost Recon</em> title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ghost-recon-future-soldier"><em>Future Soldier</em></a>. If you haven't, well, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/26/ghost-recon-live-action-trailer-has-cloaking-devices-explosions/">have a look</a> before reading any further. It's important since, last week at Ubisoft's offices, I saw the actual game in action -- and just about everything from that trailer is an actual gameplay mechanic. And then some.<br />
<br />
I got a look at the makings of a future soldier and how their abilities -- gear, weapons and additional battlefield hardware -- will evolve the series, plus how Ubisoft and Red Storm just might have come up with a way for teams to play more like, well, <em>teams </em>in online matches.<br />

First it brought us <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/assassins-creed-lineage"><em>Assassin's Creed: Lineage</em></a>, now we have a live-action trailer for <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/ghost-recon-future-soldier"><em>Ghost Recon: Future Soldier</em></a>. The trailer, directed by Ben Mor, pretty much has anything you could want. Rather than spoil the action, we'll just give a brief rundown of some of the things included:
<ul>
    <li>Minigun-packing robot drones</li>
    <li>Personal cloaking devices</li>
    <li>Explosions</li>
    <li>Shoulder mounted <em>anti-tank missiles</em></li>
</ul>
Yeah, you should probably watch it right now. And don't forget a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/10/ghost-recon-future-soldier-short-film-prequel/">full short film</a> is still slated to be released later this year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/26/ghost-recon-live-action-trailer-has-cloaking-devices-explosions/">Ghost Recon live-action trailer has cloaking devices, explosions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Mar 2010 11:30:00 EST. Here's a deal that Sam Fisher would come out of hiding for: Amazon is <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Clancys-Splinter-Cell-Conviction-Xbox-360/dp/B000SQ5LQ4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1269374273&amp;sr=1-1">offering pre-orders</a> of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splinter-cell-conviction">Splinter Cell: Conviction</a> </em>for Xbox 360 at the low price of $46.99 for the standard edition. All you need to do in order to get the discount is enter the code <strong>SPLINTER</strong> at checkout and $5 will be deducted from your total (the retailer is selling the game at an already-discounted $51.99 to begin with). Additionally, the coupon code also works on the PC version, if that's how you like to roll. If you liked the <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2010/03/18/psa-splinter-cell-conviction-demo-now-live/">recently-released demo</a> and are looking to get your hands dirty with the full-version, it's the best deal we've seen yet.<br />
<br />
Yes, it might seem a little too easy, but we have Third Echelon's assurance that this isn't some sort of elaborate trap. (The "security device" enclosed? <em>Totally</em> not a tracking beacon.)<br />

Sam Fisher's been tossed into some fairly unenviable scenarios in previous games, but if this new trailer is any indication, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splinter-cell-conviction"><em>Splinter Cell: Conviction</em></a> might just place the former spy into his most precarious mission to date. Between knife fighting dudes in bathrooms, holding off home invaders and generally being rude to receptionists, Fisher's going to great lengths to prove his bad-assitude. (Little does Sam know, he already proved it during the original <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uY7EDBvVy3c"><em>Splinter Cell</em>'s opening credits</a>.)<br />
<br />
Additionally, the trailer provides a bit more of the backstory leading up to <em>Conviction</em>, as well as some of the events we can anticipate in the game. Apparently, Sam's going to be storming the White House after an EMP blast devastates Washington. We wonder if he'll pass the <em>Modern Warfare 2</em> guys while he's in there?<br />

Or, it'll be a Holiday 2010 <em>present</em>, depending on how heavily you drop those hints and how desirable you find <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ghost-recon-future-soldier"><em>Ghost Recon: Future Soldier</em></a>'s "cutting-edge technology, prototype high-tech weaponry, and state-of-the-art single-player and multiplayer modes." Developed by the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/graw"><em>GRAW</em></a> veterans at Ubisoft Paris, <em>Future Soldier</em> promises to "go beyond the core Ghost Recon franchise and deliver a fresh gameplay experience, with an unparalleled level of quality that will excite long-time fans and newcomers alike." Yes, this is definitely from a press release.<br />
<br />
A multiplayer beta is scheduled to start in Summer 2010, with invitations tied to another of Ubisoft's freshened franchises, <em>Splinter Cell: Conviction</em> (which is but a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/04/splinter-cell-conviction-april-13-release-date-set-in-stone/">stone's throw away</a> from release). The offer is currently extended only to the Xbox 360 version of <em>Conviction</em> -- and aside from Microsoft's system, no platforms have been explicitly mentioned in <em>Future Soldier</em>'s announcement. He's from the future, so Facebook is a likely candidate.<br />

Update:</strong> According to one of Ubisoft's <a href="http://twitter.com/UbiLeak/status/8855762372">Twitter</a> accounts, the "same experience, same development team and same release date" will be coming to PlayStation 3. Ubisoft's Kimi Matsuzaki also <a href="http://twitter.com/UbiKimi/status/8855803180">noted</a> that PC details would come "later."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/09/tom-clancys-ghost-recon-future-soldier-to-be-present-holiday-2/">Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier to be present Holiday 2010</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Feb 2010 06:50:00 EST. On November 10th, Bareis Technologies, LLC filed a <a href="http://dockets.justia.com/docket/court-txedce/case_no-6:2009cv00514/case_id-119659/">lawsuit</a> against Ubisoft, Sony Computer Entertainment, Electronic Arts and Disney Interactive Studios, claiming that various games, including <em>Tom Clancy</em>, <em>SOCOM</em> and <em>NASCAR</em> titles, infringe upon a patent <a href="http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect2=PTO1&amp;Sect2=HITOFF&amp;p=1&amp;u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&amp;r=1&amp;f=G&amp;l=50&amp;d=PALL&amp;RefSrch=yes&amp;Query=PN%2F5617407">filed in 1996</a>. "Optical disk having speech recognition templates for information access" describes a process "integrating automatic speech recognition technologies into optical disk players for command and control purposes."<br /> <br /> As is typical with lawsuits of this nature, the plaintiff is seeking "no less than a reasonable royalty" for the supposed use of this "stolen" technology. Should the case make it to court, the plaintiff will have a few hurdles to overcome. Primarily, lawyers will have to prove how a patent largely targeted towards accessing specific music tracks on audio CDs is applicable to the video games in question.<br /> <br /> Considering it's been over seven years since the debut of the first <em>SOCOM</em> game, it's surprising that the plaintiff has waited so long to file this suit. Perhaps it's telling that the company going forward with the lawsuit has done so little in the thirteen years since filing the trademark that it has <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Bareis+Technologies%22&amp;ie=utf-8&amp;oe=utf-8&amp;aq=t&amp;rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&amp;client=firefox-a">no web presence whatsoever</a>.<br /> <br /> [Via <a href="http://www.gamepolitics.com/2009/11/16/ea-ubi-scea-and-disney-target-voice-recognition-suit">GamePolitics</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/17/ubisoft-sony-ea-and-disney-sued-over-voice-recognition-patent/">Ubisoft, Sony, EA and Disney sued over voice recognition patent</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Nov 2009 16:06:00 EST. The voice-controlled RTS <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/EndWar/">EndWar</a></em> didn't garner the most media attention. But, with 1.5 million units sold, it certainly warrants a sequel. Ubisoft Shanghai is creating a follow-up using a "smaller team,"creative director Michael De Plater told <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/ubisoft_shanghai_working_on_endwar_sequel.html">VideoGamer.com</a>. With <em>EndWar</em>'s successful implementation of voice controls, the development team can focus on one of the most lacking aspects of the original: the presentation of the single-player campaign. "After the first one, now we have a really good understanding of what to do ... Giving more attention to the single-player is straightforward to address and will make the game a lot of fun."<br /><br />While De Plater is quick to highlight faults being addressed for the sequel, he remains proud of his team's accomplishment with the first game. While still under the "Tom Clancy" moniker, he considers <em>EndWar</em> an original IP. Considering the challenges that surround launching a new IP, De Plater is more than happy with sales numbers. "We still sold more than <em>Red Alert 3</em>, sold more than <em>Company of Heroes</em>, sold more than <em>World in Conflict</em>. It's still, along with <em>Halo Wars</em>, the biggest new RTS in the last four or five years. Even with those faults it's still up there."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/22/smaller-team-commanding-endwar-sequel/">'Smaller team' commanding EndWar sequel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 Jul 2009 19:45:00 EST. If there's one definitive way to push publishers, developers and public relations personnel off balance, it's broaching the subject of console exclusivity. Begin the line of inquiry and you're sure to get darting eyes, an elongated "Wellllll ..." and an answer that crumples in on itself as soon as it's spoken. Perhaps it's appropriate that the topic of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splinter-cell-conviction"><em>Splinter Cell: Conviction</em></a>'s exclusivity is steeped in a cloak-and-dagger mystery.<br /><br />When asked if the ambitious Xbox 360 and PC stealth title was exclusive in the <em>really real</em> sense, producer Alex Parizeau simply stated, "It's exclusive," and admitted that it was a business arrangement with Microsoft. Prodding about <em>timed</em> exclusivity (a la <em>BioShock</em> and <em>Fallout 3</em> DLC) didn't yield anything less enigmatic, so we turned to lead game designer Steve Masters. "As far as I know," he said, "this is completely exclusive." <br /><br />Aha! Complete exclusive confirmed!<br /><br />"But that may change in the future."<br /><br />Oh. We suspect the game may make its way to PS3 eventually, but for now ... Wellllll ...<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/03/just-how-exclusive-is-splinter-cell-conviction/">Just how exclusive is Splinter Cell: Conviction?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Jun 2009 18:15:00 EST. The fine purveyors of DRM-free classics at <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/frontpage/">GoG.com</a> have announced an agreement with Ubisoft, which sees good old(ish) games like <em>Beyond Good &amp; Evil</em> and <em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em> added to the downloadable lineup. Joining action journalist Jade and the time-swindling prince are ... the aeroplanes of <em>IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946</em>! We guess they weren't really going for much of a theme outside of all three costing $9.99 each.<br /><br />Other Ubisoft titles slated to hit the PC service "in the coming weeks" include <em>Heroes of Might and Magic</em>, <em>Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon</em>, <em>Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six</em> and <em>Not Tom Clancy's</em> <em>Far Cry</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/26/beyond-good-and-evil-pop-sands-of-time-added-to-gogs-lineup/">Beyond Good &amp; Evil, PoP: Sands of Time added to GOG's lineup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Mar 2009 21:25:00 EST. Sony is bulking up its <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/tag/greatest-hits/">Greatest Hits</a> collection for the PSP, dropping the price on 10 select titles starting April 5. Available for the lowered price of $19.99, the majority of the new batch of Greatest Hits games are third party, though there are still some delicious first-party nuggets included, such as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=god+of+war+chains+of+olympus"><em>Chains of Olympus</em></a>. Here's your next wave of Greatest Hits:<br />
<ul>
    <li><em>Fight Night Round 3</em></li>
    <li><em>God of War: Chains of Olympus</em></li>
    <li><em>Medal of Honor Heroes 2</em></li>
    <li><em>Mortal Kombat: Unchained</em></li>
    <li><em>Patapon</em></li>
    <li><em>SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs: Tactical Strike</em></li>
    <li><em>Sonic Rivals 2</em></li>
    <li><em>SpongeBob SquarePants: The Yellow Avenger</em></li>
    <li><em>Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter(R) 2</em></li>
    <li><em>Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six(R) Vegas</em></li>

Even if you have no idea what<em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/09/hawx-demo-barrel-rolls-onto-xbox-live-feb-11/">H.A.W.X</a></em> is (it's about Tom Clancy flying airplanes, right?), Mega64's promotional video for the game is a <em>delight.</em> As is often the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/mega64s-car-is-a-treat/">case</a> for most <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mega64">Mega64</a> videos, we don't want to say too much about the content and risk ruining your special memory of seeing it for the first time. We will say that the group has managed to make a video that is manlier than even the <em>Tom Clanciest</em> game.<br /><br />Chances are, one question will be dominating your thoughts after you watch this: <em>where can I get that song?</em> Good news! It's been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/hawx-takes-to-the-skies/">rumored for a while now</a>, but <em>Tom Clancy's HAWX</em> still appears to be circling the Wii. See, there's this listing for the game over at Ubisoft's official site, complete with a March 2009 release date. But, before you start jumping up and down with joy and spill coffee all over your computer, know that there are a couple things making us uneasy about all of this.<br /><br />First of all, there isn't much on the listing -- box art, a release window, some key features, and a link to the game's official site. Secondly, those features listed look identical to the PS3/360 versions of the game. Drop-in and drop-out gameplay doesn't really sound like a Wii game, seeing as how we've not really heard of any game incorporating that feature (unless you want to count <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/17/wii-fanboy-review-animal-crossing-city-folk/"><em>Animal Crossing: City Folk</em></a> ). Finally, there's no mention of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wiimote">Wiimote</a>. Usually, when a publisher is putting a game on the Wii (especially in the case of multiplatform games), it tends to boast about the Wiimote's power and how it affects the game. Nothing like that here.<br /><br />But, you know, if it turns out to be true, then consider us <em>pumped</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/05/rumor-ubisofts-hawx-flies-over-to-wii/">Rumor: Ubisoft's HAWX flies over to Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Feb 2009 14:00:00 EST. Ubisoft has given <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/06/i-am-alive-i-am-first-person-i-am-not-a-jade-rayond-game/">first-person</a> disaster-survival title <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/i-am-alive"><em>I Am Alive</em></a> an enigmatic March release window. That puts the launch anywhere from six to ten weeks from now, a very short amount of time considering we've seen approximately <em>zilch</em> in terms of gameplay footage. After being hyped up so much <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/ubisoft-to-declare-i-am-alive-in-spring-2009/">at E3</a>, there's been little to no promotion for the game. We're a bit perplexed by this one, and hope it's not a foreboding sign.<br /><br />Other games slated to come out in March include <em>Tom Clancy's HAWX, </em>a PC version of <em>EndWar </em>and<em> </em><em><em>Broken Sword Wii</em>. <em>Tenchu: Shadow Assassin</em></em>, a Wii exclusive, has been given a more exact March 6 date.<em><br /></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/21/i-am-alive-to-show-itself-in-march/">I Am Alive to show itself in March</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Jan 2009 11:23:00 EST. Ubisoft is deploying new downloadable content tomorrow for <em>Tom Clancy's EndWar </em>(via <a href="http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/936/936874p1.html">IGN</a>)<em>. </em>The Escalation Pack includes four new maps, three new unit upgrades, and 10 new Achievements and Trophies for Xbox Live and PS3, respectively. The pack will be 800<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($9.99) and will be released simultaneously for both consoles.<br /><br />Additionally, a free title update is also due out tomorrow (only for Xbox 360; the PS3 patch is expected sometime in 2009). Beyond the usual connectivity, leaderboard and bug fixes, the update will raise the maximum player cap from 4 to 8, making possible 4-on-4 games in both Skirmish and Theater of War modes.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tom-clancys-endwar-leipzig-2008/">Tom Clancy's EndWar (Leipzig 2008)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tom-clancys-endwar-leipzig-2008/#989428"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/endw_nextgen_screen_jsf_ramstein_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tom-clancys-endwar-leipzig-2008/#989427"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/endw_nextgen_screen_efec_paris_emp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tom-clancys-endwar-leipzig-2008/#989426"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/endw_nextgen_screen_sgb_levski_troop_landing_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tom-clancys-endwar-leipzig-2008/#989424"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/endw_nextgen_screen_efec_paris_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tom-clancys-endwar-leipzig-2008/#989423"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/endw_nextgen_screen_efec_moscow_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/10/tom-clancys-endwar-speaks-up-patch-and-dlc-tomorrow/">Tom Clancy's EndWar speaks up, patch and DLC tomorrow</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Dec 2008 16:50:00 EST. If you need a game, this week's for you. While we can't vouch for the quality of all the releases (or even, uh, half), but we can say one thing: there's a lot of 'em. And by a lot, we mean <em>dozens</em>. Well, if you add up all the regions, anyway. Look, don't get technical. It's a lot. See for yourself.<br /><br />As an aside, after seeing this week's releases, we should stop crying about not having any more <em>Professor Layton</em> -- the first title is only just now being released in Europe! And what's up with <em>Korg DS-10</em>? It's been turning up on releases for a while. Maybe we'll actually see it this week.<br />

In addition to this, it's apparently going to be <em>awesome</em>, what with giant firefights breaking out right in front of the US Capital Building, France's Eiffel Tower, and even the Kremlin. Seriously though, why not? If the world just <em>has</em> to be embroiled in a massive war, said war might as well take place in some dramatic places, right? Just because we're doomed doesn't mean we can't end it all with a little <em>flair</em>.<br /><br />The game, incidentally, drops next week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/31/endwar-launch-trailer-is-a-total-downer/">EndWar launch trailer is a total downer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 31 Oct 2008 17:00:00 EST. Fans eager to engage in some voice-activated, real-time strategy on their favorite handheld systems ... will have little interest in the rest of this post! Ubisoft has detailed the PSP and DS versions of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/endwar"><em>Tom Clancy's EndWar</em></a> -- both of which launch alongside their bigger <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/15/tom-clancys-endwar-demo-deployed-on-xbox-live/">console brothers</a> on November 4th -- and made it apparent that warmongers on the go are in for a markedly different experience.<br /><br />Developed by Funatics Software, the portable pair presents "turn-based strategy with a twist," allowing simultaneous move and attack phases which render the experience as intense and authentic as real-time strategy -- it says here. Other relevant features include three campaigns, over 20 units per faction, a two-player versus multiplayer mode, a mission editor, stylus controls on the Nintendo DS and, judging by the screenshots, <em>somewhat</em> less realistic graphics. Ubisoft is bringing yet another Tom Clancy game to the handhelds. This time, <em>EndWar</em> is getting the PSP treatment. The upcoming game takes place during World War III. Players take control of the U.S. Joint Strike Force, European Enforcers Corps or Russian Spetsnaz Guards Brigade in three separate (but intertwined) campaigns. Each campaign includes over 30 battle scenarios taking place on real-world battlefields including Paris and London.<br /><br /><em>EndWar</em> also features two-player versus multiplayer mode, including additional missions specifically designed for multiplayer battles. There's also a mission editor, which allows players to share and create custom battlefields and scenarios. Expect <em>EndWar</em> on November 4th.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tom-clancys-endwar/">Tom Clancy's EndWar</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tom-clancys-endwar/#1108427"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/endw_psp_screen_11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tom-clancys-endwar/#1108426"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/endw_psp_screen_45_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tom-clancys-endwar/#1108425"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/endw_psp_screen_23_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tom-clancys-endwar/#1108424"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/endw_psp_screen_20_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tom-clancys-endwar/#1108423"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/endw_psp_screen_19_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/20/tom-clancys-endwar-coming-to-psp-this-november/">Tom Clancy's EndWar coming to PSP this November</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Oct 2008 17:30:00 EST.
