"These memories are designed to fit together as a kind of jig-saw puzzle," he said, "so the best way to get the full picture is to discuss them with your buddies. Some show dubious details about yourself, while others cast doubt on your squad-mates. Who's the real enemy? What's going on? What did you see?"

Scourge: Outbreak is due to launch "in a couple of months' time," as a PS3 download, as well as on XBLA and Mac.
Scourge: Outbreak due in a 'couple' months on PSN, XBLA, Mac originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 06 Aug 2012 16:00:00 EST. Tragnarion Studios has announced that it will soon bring its third-person shooter, entitled The Scourge Project -- first announced in 2007 -- to Xbox Live Arcade, PSN and Steam. The game, powered by the Unreal Engine, promises "a unique focus on co-operative narrative and gameplay," in which each of the four playable characters will have a unique perspective on the story. From a more meat-and-potatoes standpoint, the game features five hours of gameplay over four levels, nine different weapons and co-op for up to four players (each with different special abilities). The Scourge Project also offers versus multiplayer for up to sixteen players and includes deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag and "Frontier."

The game certainly seems to be packing some graphical chops, especially compared to Tragnarion's previous project for the DS, a puzzler called Doodle Hex. The game is expected to debut on Steam this month, while the XBLA version is scheduled to arrive in March 2010. The press release does mention a PSN version of the game, though it doesn't appear in the body of the text. We've contacted Tragnarion to see if the PSN listing was legitimate or made in error.
Further clues can be found on publisher Pinnacle Software's website. Well, not so much "further clues" as "definitive proof" -- the site lists a July 11 date.

In lieu of actually releasing the game, the publisher released new screenshots of the versus puzzler. We think the concept of Doodle Hex -- drawing series of runes on the touch screen in rapid succession to send combos of attacks, status ailments, and other effects toward an opponent -- seems like it could make for an interestingly fast-paced game. Or a confusing mess of rune shapes we can't remember! One or the other.

[Via press release]
Doodle Hex screens to tide us over originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 30 Jun 2008 17:00:00 EST.

We fully approve of video tutorials for puzzle games. It's often a lot easier to show us the new mechanic of a puzzler than it is to describe which blocks you arrange in what formation, etc. Unfortunately, the tutorial for Doodle Hex is no help at all. It starts off well, introducing all of the onscreen elements -- but then it skips the part about what those onscreen elements do or how to use them or what's going on. We feel more confused now after seeing the rapid-fire combat than we did before watching this "tutorial."

At least we can enjoy the announcer, who delivers his lines with hilariously false, sarcastic enthusiasm. Tragnarion Studios just got approved by Nintendo as an official licensed Wii developer, so what are their plans? If you answered, "They're going to Disney World," you'd be wrong, but we appreciate the sentiment.

You may or may not have heard of the Spanish developer's DS game that's in the works, Doodle Hex, which will be coming to our favorite touchscreen handheld this May. The game's name is pretty self explanatory -- you cast magic and hexes on people by drawing them with a stylus. But Tragnarion thinks that the drawing gameplay would go well with a Wiimote, too. With the studio's newly acquired license, the Spanish developer therefore hopes to bring the Doodle Hex saga to the Wii. We're assuming they would make a new game in the series rather than remake the DS game, but details weren't specified.

Tragnarion also said they they've been planning some innovative projects that fully utilize the Wii's capabilities, but whether they mean new IPs or more Doodle Hex remains to be seen.

[Via GamesPress press release]
Doodle Hex casts itself onto the Wii originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 18 Mar 2008 16:00:00 EST. We last heard about Tragnarion's spell-casting title way back in August 2007, if you can recall such a time, before the game seemingly disappeared in its own puff of smoke.

It's back now, however, along with a publisher (Pinnacle Software) and the first half-dozen screenshots. As described previously, the touchscreen is to be used for scribbling out your hexes (and contains all sorts of gauges and meters that we don't fully understand yet), while the top screen is reserved for the game's hand-drawn art. We like that pig, but some of the other examples look kinda janky.

The gallery below has the first six screens, each super-imposed onto a DS. It's almost like the game itself is in your hands! Or not.

[Via press release]
Doodle Hex casts first screenshots originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 06 Mar 2008 15:00:00 EST.
